Great professor!! Just came over from peru so he doesn't know about all of our holidays but he is very nice and knowledgeable. You have to read the books and study but his tests are fair. Attendance is not mandatory but its better if you go then just reading the book!
he gives 3 test thats it. He is nice but his test isnt necessarily going to be on the test. His 1ST test wasnt on anything we went over in class. He mentioned he feels like a challenging test is more pleasing. I dont like when teachers give other teachers test and its not what we cover. Dont take him, their is no way to pull up your grade.
His German accent can be hard to understand, but his beer consumption examples are hilarious. He only gives 3-4 exams, and waited until our final grades were back to decide to drop the lowest grade. The tests were *hard*, but he curves so much that I miserably failed (0 and below a 50) two tests and still passed.
Unique and moderately interesting person when it comes to lectures. Only 4 tests are given but they are very frustrating. He didn't follow the syllabus very well either. If you go to class and study the material he goes over you should do alright on the test.
The syllabus wasn't followed, and instructions were confusing. When confronted, the professor became belligerent, even going so far as to scream (or rather, talk loudly in an aggressive tone) in a student's face during the final. The book was ok, though.
Great professor, makes the subject matter really easy to understand. Doesn't want anyone to leave class not grasping the concept. More of a conversational type teacher rather than just lecture and take notes. Take this class you will not fail.
Great teacher,I was raised in the deep south and I had NO problem understanding his very slight accent,(he has taught all over the world (born German).Anecdotes, stories, & analogies are hilarious. Tests are not "hard" if you actually read the material.Engage him in converstaion & you will learn a LOT. He is a converstational teacher, not boring!
I took 2 courses with him when he taught back in AUB in 2009. He is a great teacher, interesting and always ties his lecture with modern day issues. If you ATTEND his lectures and LISTEN to him you'll do very well on the test as he doesn't really follow the textbook.
This prof. is the best prof. I have had in 6 colleges I attended (due to moving around in mil. career). If you attend the lectures you will do well. He gives a study guide he goes over before each test that is the same as the test. He curves overall grade at end & drops 1 of 4 test scores! He is very understanding, interesting, & easy to understand
Great professor. Really nice and tests are just from what he reviews. He is from germany but he is really nice if you get on good side. Econ is subject u either get or dont. DONT BUY BOOK
Professor is more than fair. He grades on a curve so it makes it even easier to get a good grade in his class. He grades on 4 tests dropping your lowest test grade. As long as you come to class and take notes you will do fine. I did receive a 65 on one of his tests but since he drops lowest I was still able to get an A. Strongly recommended teacher
He is THE BEST professor I've had at Kennnesaw hands down. & he's super genuine. If you talk to him, he'll definitely help you out. he can be longwinded at times, but he's super funny.I was unsure of the answers on my test i turned in & he told me how to do the problem and made me go sit back down & correct them lol. You don't need the book.
Professor is extremely fair. Grades on a curve and drops the lowest grade. Just wish had more exercises to truly understand the material.
The class average on his past two exams was a 'C' and that was WITH a 10 point curve. There is no Supplemental Instruction (which is usually offered in difficult Statistics classes); there are just millions of practice problems online, which you only get the answers to if you're in class. He is a nice man, but I would not recommend him.
Extremely helpful, very passionate and genuinely concerned with how well we all are understanding the material. Super nice guy, always in a good mood. Favorite teacher by far.
He is a great professor that truly loves what he does and makes the class fun. His test can be hard but he also grades on a pretty radical curve. He really wants his students to pass. Class is not mandatory, but he does not teach out of a text book, he gives notes and will push back exam dates if he feels the students are not ready for the exam.
Professor is very helpful. Though his accent can be hard to understand, he is very willing to explain anything. Also will move back exams if students are not ready. Gives practice problems and notes online. No textbook bc he thinks they're way to expensive. Attendance not mandatory but you definitely need to attend.
Not an easy subject, but a great professor. He loves statistics and that helps drive the class to learn. Would love to take this professor again!
he is really hard to understand. his accent is too strong and sometimes it seems as if he is speaking another language. he was not a good teacher to learn anything from
This teacher is truly inspiring. He will do whatever it takes to ensure you understand what he is teaching. He will go over things twice but that is just so you can learn it then come back the next day to review it. He has practice sheets that are super helpful. You DO NOT need the book. He curves. TAKE HIM. His heart is awesome and you will learn!
He is not a good professor. His teaching style is very confusing; he talks a lot without explaining much. At times he can be also rude. I do not recommend him.
Professor Marktanner is an awesome teacher!! I advise ANYONE to take this class!!! Very easy, test are not hard! He drops the lowest!! Curves the test!! You do not need the book!! TAKE HIM!!!
Pretty much the nicest teacher I have ever had! He was so interested In us learning! You have to go to class, but he will try and teach it to you until you get it. Very helpful, and you don't need the book!
He is helpful and willing to answer any questions that you have. I really liked how he taught; I found Econ interesting for once in my life. You do NOT need the book. Everything pretty much comes for his lectures and online practice. He is great. TAKE HIM.
Good guy. If you have no idea about stats would not recommend. Great person, not always the best at a having a basic explanation. I would personally take again, but this was my second stats class, so it was easy for me. Curves every test so average is at least an 80, comes in handy a lot, lowest test grade was a 103.5 (thanks to the curve).
Really good guy. Made Economics interesting and always helped out. 4 tests, drops lowest one. He always answers questions. He explains things clear. The one con he had was sometimes you couldn't understand his German accent. Overall really good teacher. If you want an easy Econ class take him. Dont buy book. Attendance is counted. Take him
I enjoyed Marktanner as a person, he genuinely cares about the students and their success. I personally did not care for his teaching style. He teaches through excel, and we aren't tested through excel so it wastes a lot of time. He does have an accent, but I dont find it hard to understand. If you arent good at stats, dont take him
Super nice guy. He's really enthusiastic about stats and wants everyone to really understand the material. He's also really funny. Has an accent but it's rarely an issue. He does teach through Excel fairly often, which does waste a ton of time because we aren't tested through it. Overall, though, I recommend him.
Nice guy - tries to get students interested in the subject. He does have a thick accent, but you get used to it. Willing to explain things as many times as needed to get the point across. Even moved a test back a week because the class wasn't prepared for it. Drops a test grade also.
Great teacher! He is passionate and explains things very clearly. He is always very willing to help in any way he can. There are only 4 tests - you don't need a book. Don't miss any classes - you get all you need from his lectures. Take him!
Such a great teacher! This is the first time I have EVER been interested in Economics. He makes the info relevant and interesting by providing real life examples and stories. He truly wants students to learn the material and not just memorize- will go over it as much as needed until you "get it." I wish he could teach every class I need!
One of the chillest professors I've ever had, but totally knows how to teach Econ. He goes over every question before the exam, and generally his exams are similar to the review questions. Very accessible outside class and will help you if you're having a rough time with the material. Would definitely take the class again if I could!
Marktanner is a great guy. At first he is a little hard to understand but you will get used to it quickly. He lectures every day and can sometimes be hard to focus. There are only 4 tests the whole semester but drops the lowest no matter what. So if you do well on the first three tests, you dont even have to show up the last part of the semester.
Great teacher! Pay attention and go to class and it is an easy A. He gives extra credit, and he drops questions if he makes mistakes or too many students miss it. If the whole class complains he makes things easier to understand. 3 Tests determine your grade so put in the work and you will get an A
Marktanner is a great professor and willing to help anyone! Will go over the material 1000 times if needed! However he has a bit of an accent.
i loved his class!! he made sure i understood everything, no matter how long it took. he is very passionate about statistics and tries to get the class to be as well. i enjoyed his class and he really tried to get us to interact so that we can learn the material easier to understand and learn. Wish he taught more classes!!
Marktanner is a gem! His class was tough, and I debated dropping it, but he worked with me and helped me with anything I needed. He cares about his students and wants to see everyone pass. He understands that the material he teaches isn't the easiest stuff...I would most definitely recommend him. He reply's back to emails quickly as well
Cool professor. I took him for Macroecon too. 4 tests; if you make the grade avg you want after first 3 tests, youre done for the rest of the semester. No book requirement so take good notes in class. Hes available for office hours too. He tries to make sure everyone understands material. He does have an accent but you can understand everything.
You can tell he really loves what he teaches and cares about his students. I have taken him for micro and statistics. Both classes had 4 tests where the lowest score is dropped. He rounds everyones grades a little at the end. Sometimes he lectures do not fully prepare you for his tests other times they do. I would recommend him!
This guy is very intelligent. He really cares about every student and makes sure that you understand the material. Our grade was determined by four "quizzes". After the third quiz I had an A average and your final grade is the average of your three highest quiz grades so he let me exempt the last quiz and stop going to class. Super cool dude.
Easy going professor, cares if you understand the material so if you have any questions on a problem, ask. 4 tests, drops one. I did well on the first three tests and opt out to take the final. Problem sets didnt really help me for the tests but if you pay attention and take notes, you can get an A.
THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER! I've tried so many tutors, including HIM, to grasp "his" econ, but he doesn't teach econ like the other professors. No extra credit until the day before a break or whenever he feels like it. You won't learn anything from his teachings. DO NOT TAKE HIM! If you do, GOOOD LUCK!
Marktanner is one of my favorite professors at KSU. He is accessible and truly wants everyone in the class to pass. Although you have to study, if you review his problem sets and come to class you should have no issue passing this class. He is very intelligent and welcomes everyone to interact with him so you can reach your maximum potential.
If you dont go to every class, then you will most likely no do well at all.
Best professor I've ever had. Always talks about how his dream was to become an economics professor. Drops your lowest test grade, and is super caring. These were easy concepts he taught and even when some people couldn't grasp them, he never showed frustration. He is a gem.
Really good guy, makes economics seem beautiful, useful, and fun. Tries his best to explain topics and answer any questions you have. Very fair in grading and tends to round up grades at end of semester. German accent, but not difficult to understand, and a really interesting guy. Take him.
I had no issues at all with this professor, never had a problem with emailing him either. If I could take him for all my other classes I would.
Took for the summer. Cant believe I passed! We only had 4 tests no hw or quizzes. Lowest grade is dropped, I failed 3 out of 4 tests. You dont need the book just watch his videos and take notes. He gave us a lot of extra points. My final grade came out to be a 78.67 because of the extra points then even bumped the grade up to a B!! Hes so nice!!
Take his class. You can get an easy A as long as you study and pay attention in class. His test are not hard all multiple choice. No HW or extra credits, only 4 test and he drops the lowest score. He cares about you passing as long as you show up and he sees you trying. Attendance is not mandatory
He was fantastic! He's very passionate about economics. If you don't understand it, he will explain it until you do. Super funny and a nice guy. He also doesn't require a book because it costs money!
I took his class online. He is very knowledgeable and organized. Pretty easy class in my opinion. Just watch his videos, read the assigned material, and review the problem sets and it's an easy A. 4 online tests, the highest test grade makes 40% of your grade, lowest - 10%. Finished the semester 1 month earlier. Recommend him.
ECON 3300 in general is a tough class and this was my second try at it, but Marktanner was a great option! There are 4 tests he dropped our lowest test and weighed our grade by 50%, 30%, 20% based on best test score to worst. Hes a very understanding guy and offers all lectures online so you never have to show up for class only for test days
I have taken him for four different ECON classes and he is awesome. He truly cares about his students and making sure they learn the material. Only had 4 tests and they were very similar to the end of chapter practice questions we did before the test. He also allowed cheat sheets on test day. He grades within 2 days.
This class was not easy at all. Material is tough and get ready to read and practice exercises because you wont pass without it. Took this class online and Professor Marcus did his best (videos, lectures and everything) to make us pass. I luckily passed with a C because of hard work. Be ready. Toughest class I ever took.
Hardest B I have ever gotten in my life. Do yourself a favor and find a different econ professor.
He is a terrible teacher !!! He gives 4 tests no extra credit and no curves. He says a book isnt mandatory but if you dont be prepared to fail. He spends most days stuck on one problem.
I enjoyed this course. The professor is very enthusiastic about the course. He wants the student to learn. I showed up to every class because his lectures were interesting. I did not study out of class to earn an A on his tests, but I did pay attention to his lectures.
Show up to class, study the problem sets and lecture notes and you will be fine. Very nice guy who can be disorganized at times but makes up for it with a love for teaching and a nice curve at the end. Take him!
The class average was 76%. Studied the practice question and the power points over and over just for him to make the majority of the questions on the exams completely different. When we would go over the practice questions he will take half of the class period figuring out just one question. Ended up getting a C only for the huge curve he gave us.
Took his class online and while a lot of people complained, you really just have to watch the videos and take notes on them. However, they are heinous to listen to. There are about 3-4 15 minute videos of his very monotone voice a week. Only four tests, I received As on all. He did curve one test because the average was low.
Prof Marktanner is a gem. He was so kind and willing to work with me when I missed a lot of class early this semester. He cares so much about his students and their wellbeing. Entire grade is made up of 4 tests. Go to class, pay attention, and reach out to him if you need help and you're guaranteed a good grade. Highly recommend him!
He is a good teacher, goes over concepts with examples and it helps for the test in the class. 4 test and that was your grade. He gives practice problems that are similar to the test. Good teacher to take. He curves some of the test too.
I took this course online and found the lectures to have a lot of good information. I didnt use/purchase a textbook for the course, and so long you listen to the lectures and practice before the test, youll get an A
I took in summer semester and ended up withdrawing. He is not a good communicator. His lectures are extremely hard to listen to and understand. It was online with no homework but if you cant understand him then its very hard to pass the tests. Id recommend avoiding.
I did not communicate with the professor at all. I hated the class because 4 tests make up your grade, so very little interaction with the professor or fellow students. The book was so boring and difficult to read. I need more interaction, I do not learn well by just reading and testing.
Professor Marktanner is a great teacher who really enjoys teaching Economics. He actually cares about his students, and his Macro Economics class is not hard if you just go to class and pay attention.
I took his class Spring 2020. As this was right around when COVID hit, the class transitioned to fully online. I found his in-person lectures to be informative, and his video lectures were also very helpful. However, this class is not a free ride; you're gonna have to study. Marktanner is a caring professor and wants to see you do well. Take him.
Worst professor. Messes up everything, the students point out during lectures whats wrong then he makes a separate video fixing his mistakes. Unwilling to help the students, he says we arent putting in enough time. Average based off 10 tests that have nothing to do with the lectures or practice sets. Never prepared for class mygrade is suffering.
A phenomenal professor who I will be taking again! I was not doing so great in the beginning but did private o.h. every week and truly learned the material. He does mess up sometimes, but corrects them by making separate videos or taking off test. Practice sets and lectures do help on tests! He's very genuine and cares! I recommend!
Tough class but I'm so glad I took it from Prof. Marktanner! He provides online videos in addition to in-class lectures. He made the content interesting and manageable to learn. He answers questions via email (even creating video explanations), plus during office hour appointments. He truly cares about you understanding/learning the material.
Very invested in his students success, all lectures and problem sets (with answers) are prerecorded on d2l. he goes over the lecture in class again and works through the problem sets that are the same format as the tests. tests are open all weekend for your convenience. You would have to put in more effort to fail this class than to pass it.
This class is not a joke - get ready for a lot of studying and tests, but it's worth it! Trust me, if you put enough energy and study, getting an A is not that difficult! Professor Marktanner is very helpful and knowledgeable. I absolutely learned a lot in his class!
Taken as an 8-week course over the summer, was very easy to manage. Course consisted of approx. 1-hour long lectures, an ungraded practice worksheet w/ solutions and video walkthorugh, and the only thing you were graded on were 10 quiz/tests. Very easy to manage, 100% recommend
Prof. Marktanner is a nice guy but my experience in his class was not great. I took Macro 2105 over the summer and there were 8 tests. No book required which was a mistake in my opinion. His video lectures are nice but there were some moments of being lost in translation, especially when it came to the tests. He SHOULD use a manual in my opinion.
Everything is posted at start of year. Lectures explain what the power points can't. You're graded on 8 exams, no homework. Tests are very easy if you come to class. Easy A. He doesn't take attendance and is very relaxed with his students. Helps you learn how to use excel as a plus.
He's really chill. Extremely smart, funny, very laid back. Only take him if you plan on showing up every day, otherwise you're wasting your time.
This online class was the best! The only things that were graded were 7 tests and they were not lockdown browser. Easiest class I've taken in a while and I learned some things along the way ;) Can't recommend enough as an online class, especially over the summer! Just keep an eye out for due dates.
Amazing teacher, took his class in summer ECO2300, the consisted with ONLY 7 test that's it. No HW, project, discussion and quiz. Very well organized videos and material. Easy A
Class only consisted of 7 tests and everything is well organized. Make sure you follow along with the lectures and practice sets with Excel if you want an easy A.
Took this class over the summer - great choice. Great lecture videos. He goes over all the concepts in great detail and depth, shows you how to do it mathematically by hand, & then how to get the answer using Excel. He is very responsive and caring. 8 Tests, open notes, no lockdown or webcam, but read carefully. Highly recommend this teacher.
This class was one of the most difficult economics classes that I have taken in my finance degree!
The professor is a very nice human being... that won't get you anywhere in macro. He goes over lecture slides and then goes off-topic at least three times. Honestly, I would, too, if I had such an interesting life. He has been in almost every single country( I confirmed) even during war in the middle east. He's cool. But he can't teach.
Tests are locked down in the browser with the camera from now on, by the way.
All the tests got moved to lockdown mid semester. Teacher is very nice and respectable, but he can be a little passive aggressive at times. There is 8 tests and that is your grade. There is NO extra credit whatsoever. Very stingy and Marcus will go out of his way to help you but sometimes makes you feel bad for not knowing an answer
One of my favorite professors! There are only about 7 grades (all tests) but you will succeed if you attend class. He genuinely cares about his students.
Don't take this professor. His test have nothing to do with his lecture. Majority of my class struggled and when we all went to talk to him about it he brushed us all off. He is narcissistic and doesn't take feedback well. Many people dropped his course and I will have to also.
His lectures only cover 25% of the exams. I dropped this course because he does not seem to care or acknowledge that 3/5 of the class is struggling and refuses to accept that he cannot teach the material well. He claims that as long as we show up that we do not need the textbook, but the exams say otherwise.
If you're not already well-versed on the subject, you're cooked. He sucks at explaining and if you need help he'll blame it on you for not understanding. He's not receptive in the slightest.
He is a great person, if you reach out he will try to help BUT most of the things on the test he does not cover or just briefly mentions. He is hard to follow, his lectures are not supper fun and I just ended up watching YouTube videos to pass class.
Marcus is just alright… he knows what he's teaching but just can't really be a good lecturer. A lot of his material isn't explained well and some stuff on the tests isn't explained in class. Plus the exams are on lockdown with webcam. He is from Germany too so he uses those experiences to teach us. And if accents bother you I wouldn't recommend.
Don't take this professor! Your grade consists of 8 tests. His lectures are hard to understand and don't even cover what's on the test. They are also lockdown browser. Attendance doesn't matter.
He doesn't believe in extra credit, that's what he said.... also, the class is only made of 8 tests and no other assignments to back you up. So good luck.
Yes, grade is based off of tests, and theres no/little extra credit BUT he curves the overall grade at end of class. Tests are hard being on lockdown, BUT r open notes. Attendance not mandatory and most material is online in form of lectures and practice q's, so if needed you could do without going to class. Stressful not knowing grade till end tho
I'm really going to miss him after this semester. One of the best professors I've ever had at KSU. 7 Tests on Lockdown which are all open note. Really hard to fail this class. Takes time to answer any and ALL questions you have. Teaches you how to use excel. Kind of sad how students stopped coming to class because he enjoys getting to know you!
Do NOT take him! I had to report him to the head of the department. He wasn't teaching the things we needed to succeed in the class. When a group of us told him this, he called us dumb, denied that it was his fault. Three students told him that they were on the dean's and president's list, and he said, " Wow, I'm surprised that you are."
His teaching style didn't click with me—he taught mainly through Excel, which felt overwhelming. I stopped going to class and learned the material on my own. The study guides and online materials didn't help much with the exams, which made open note useless. I only managed an A because I had taken regular stats before this class.
Its difficult material, plain and easy. Its also simple, just study a little bit and youll be ok. He's not gonna make it more difficult than it needs to be. He gives you study guides that cover everything pretty well. Hes fare and tries to help out where he can. Good professor
Overall I truly do not know how people fail this class or hate the guy. Marktanner is wonderful! He is caring, respectful, and GENUINELY wants his students to do well. 6 tests is all your graded by but he gives you more than adequate time and review and the lowest 2 test are completely dropped. Overall, I love the guy! I had him fall 2025
