he was an ok teacher. if you really struggle in math, i'm not sure how you'd do. but if you somewhat already understand it, he'll be an easy teacher. just take notes & show up to class and you'll do fine.
DO. NOT. TAKE. HIM. If you do you will regret it. He hates his students and treats them abusively, and even discriminates against whites and men. He treats you like you are a 1st grader. He won't even let you go to use the bathroom during class, he'll send you home. He'll pick on certain people for no reason. Plus, he cannot even teach.
omg!!!! i totally regret taking this class. so u cant use the restroom during class. u cant talk or u'll be marked "HALF ABSENT" and if u dont understand the question...and need help, dont ask him because he will ask u go to to the MATH LAB! haha he doesnt cover most of the material on the test. never goes over homework, just goes over like 2 probl
yea...i realize i was takins math 98 and it should be easy but he made it so much harder!! he counts you "half absent" if you leave, even to go to the bathroom!! he HAS NO IDEA what he is teaching and if you need help FORGET IT! he tells you to either go to his office, or go to the math lab...DO NOT TAKE HIM! he should be fired!

I didn't think he was so bad!! He gives all kinds of extra credit and he helps you whenever you ask for it. He was very helpful! in the begining he was rocky, because this is his first time teaching, but then he got great.
Mr. Rhymes is a descent teacher. He's very willing to give you help, BUT not big on giving it to you during class(math lab or his office) At first hes mean and wont let you leave class to go to the bathroom or u'll get an absence, but at the end of the semster hes cool about you leaving early or you not being there, best if you know the material
If I were you i would think twice before taking his class. If you like to kiss butt and be a teacher's pet then this is the class for you! if you are like me and just go to pass with a great grade then this is not the class for you. take it from me and other students that this is a bad choice to go into his class.
I have never been told that I am not allowed to go to the restroom. I have asked him for help on the homework,he told me "NO" he has to move on. I think he is more worried what his boss will say about not getting the material out than he is about teaching his students. I think it is sad when another student can teach you better than the teacher.BAD
I think that he is a GREAT teacher. We just had some very immature people in our class that had a problem with him from day one. In my opinion the people in my particular class was the most rude bunch of people I have ever been around. He actually helped me to understand math. The problem is not the teacher when you have rude people in the class.
Great teacher who really takes his time to make sure you understand what he is taching you. But beware of any people that are in your class who obviously seem to have "social problems", the ones who think they know everything, who throw out random questions to throw the whole class off. Overall I apprciated his class.

this teacher/babysitter is very useless, you would think he is getting paid to babysit. Teaching skills are awful. Do not take his class. He reads straight from the book and his most famous words are "It's straight-foward". If that was the case we wouldn't need this class, now would we. If you have read the other reviews, it's all TRUE.
the teacher covers all the basics. Just go to class, do the homework, and practice. Easy A.
He sucks, everything is to the point. There is more than one way to do a math problem. He just knows one way.
How are professors chosen these days, I don't know? He shows lack of confidence in his teaching abilities and it comes out in the way teaches. Every thing is to the point. Either you get it or you don't. Unless you are a self learner you should'nt take this class.
This teacher is awful! If you ask him a question he goes around the question and doesnt ever answer it. He is not helpful at all. If you dont understand math that well this is not the teacher you need to take...he is by far one of the worst teachers i've had so far!

This teacher doesn't know math at all, he needs to be in math 0098,he can not teach the class when he doesn't know the multiplication table.All he says the entire time is "it's simple, rules and definitions?" well,does he know those? he reads those rules from his notes. He can not teach math,one student from our class did all the teaching for him.

I cannot believe all the negative responses here. Like a previous rater said, immature students are the problems, not the teacher. This is not high school, this is the real world. I have never had a teacher who was so willing to help students. All you have to do is pay attention in class, do the homework assignments, and you pass!
He's really not as bad as everyone is making him out to be. He's helpful and patient as long as you don't have a smart mouth. He let us out of class 20 or 30 minutes early almost everyday. Do your work and pay attention in class and you'll be just fine!
hes ok. hes kinda hard. Take notes and do homework and you should be fine. Lots of quizes, some of which are pop quizes. at times doesnt know what hes doing and he lets you out of class easly everyday. over all... ok. wouldnt really recommend
I think mr.rhymes is an ok teacher. He dosnt give you all the answers to your questions he would rather have you find it yourself. If you do the home work you will be fine. He makes you laugh sometimes and he hates it when you dont take him or his class seriously. Dont be last, raise your hand, do hw and all will be fine.
He has been the only good math teacher I have ever known! If u like teachers that are more willing to help those who try hard u'll like him! He always has helpful reviews for the test and you usually know about the quizzes!These famous pop quizzes everyone is talkin about are usually just a problem to work out on the board or an attendence grade!
Mr. rhymes and I did not get along what so ever. He didnt like me helping anyone and he sure didnt like it when i corrected him. he would not let anyone be late or go to the bathroom. He was definetly a d*ck to me and made me want to break his nose. class material wasnt to hard though, and his tests weren't to bad either.
This teacher was awful. He can't pronounce the word "calculator" and barely knows how to use one. Towards the end of the class I asked him to see my grade several times and he refused to show me. I found myself correcting this teacher more then I learned from him. Don't be late to this class because you won't get credit for being there... SUCKS!

i absolutely hated his class... and as a class we knew more than him. he made up my grade cause he didnt like me. he wouldnt keep his word... and made favorites. if you want to try and figure out HIS rules and definitios this class is for you. otherwise i dont recommend him to anyone unless ur name is david.
If school was about likes and dislikes of a professor then he would get an awful rating but as far as his teaching style if you can get past his personality and zoom in he is awesome. I UNDERSTOOD NO MATH before I came to this class and now I understand it all. Students need to be on time and be prepared. IF YOU ARE SENSITIVE DONT TAKE HIM
He is an awful teacher. He is rude and calls people out in class and therefore no one asks questions. He makes you feel stupid for trying. He definately has favorites and you have to be there on time. If you don't understand something he'll just tell you to go to the math lab. He's awful don't take him.
I think Mr. Rhymes is really nice and funny!! His class has always been fun and I always leave feeling like I've learned something new. I don't think he is rude, just painfully direct. Welcome to College. Yeah, he does talk about rules and defenitions alot.. folks, stop complaining AND DO YOUR HOMEWORK. The class is easy as sin, seriously.
Fairly easy and straight forward
Best Math teacher I have ever had, he had MULTIPLE CHOICE TESTS!!! his quizzes were simple , and he assigned very few homework problems.
i hated him! he has favorites..offers no help.. yeah he gives you defintions but no futher assistnace with anything else. he is awful.

He is not a good teacher at all. He works just to get a paycheck. I liked him at first until he made me upset. He needs training in teaching students who have not taken this math in high school. He argues with his students and he always says go practice well how can you practice if you don't know the material. He needs to get another JOB!!!!!

Mr. Rhymes was an OK tacher! He needs to work on some things. I am not good in math. If you end up taking his class make sure you are on time and do the homework. I pass the class with a C! I took his class last summer.
Mr. Rhymes does not have much of a personality. However, he is a very good teacher. He explains things well. He is very strict on his attendance policy and expects everyone to give 100%. If you work hard, he does not mind helping you.
Mr. Rhymes is intolerant of people who don't understand because they don't show up or just don't try. This makes my learning a lot better because we don't lag behing just because of lazy students.

He picks his favorites, which are usually the guys. when u ask a question he answers it like you should know it,if i did i wouldn't be asking. i corrected his equation and he did not call on me for the rest of the semester, he would pretend i'm not even there...it was laughable!!!
Not the easiest teacher. I had tested out for math up to precal, but decided to just to college algebra so I wouldn't make it hard on myself. I seriously wish I would've done precal now. I took this class in high school but everything was taught so different that it just made me more than confused when he taught it. He's not the best at explaining.
I don't understand why no one likes Mr. Rhymes! I failed algebra the first time I took it, and came out of his class with a B! His class is really easy, I recommend that you take it!
This man clearly didn't want to teach us. I am behind in another class because there are entire sections he didn't even teach us. He often yelled at us for things like not using a marker correctly, or not knowing an answer. He is the only teacher I have ever had where I was genuinely concerned he was going to hit someone.

College algebra class was quite easy from prior knowledge. He does pick favorites(they were NOT guys in my class). His tests were multiple choice, I don't recall many quizzes or them being overly hard. He will help anyone willing to help themselves. He is a good teacher and a good guy overall, just doesn't like those who want a grade handed to them

The man has no ability to teach and has not completely mastered the material. He has been corrected on multiple occasions. He has little confidence and does not care for the students. I can not understand how he got a teaching job at all.

all the reviews cant be wrong... this guy sucks! its not even that the course is hard, he just cant teach and shows no interest in teaching. buying a physical book is optional because you have an online book you can use, but he locks the computer screen in class so your forced to listen to his confusing lectures.

Mr. Rhymes is not a good teacher!! Do Not take him! He is horrible at explaining how to work out problems and expects u to know and remember everything up to the college algebra level. Good teacher, can run through problems too quick to understand but he will help you figure it out. You just have to ask.
Most of his students either fail or drop out. Don't take him if you don't remember high school math very well. I was an A/B student until I took his class (I got a D). He is useless teacher at explaining, and he goes directly off the book. Could have been an online class, because he never really teaches.

Mr. Rhymes was a great teacher. I was horrible at math until I took his class. He explained things in a way that help me understand better.
Everything everyone else is saying is accurate. That was the only class I felt like was a high school class the way he treated us.
This is the worst teacher to have for Math. DO NOT i repeat DO NOT TAKE MARCUS RHYMES or else you WILL FAIL. he cannot teach. He does NOT explain ANYTHING. all he does is EXAMPLES. his test are SUPER hard and he expects you to KNOW the information. VERY BAD teacher.
Mr. Rhymes want a bad teacher. The only thing that I can say was a downfall was that we rushed through everything the whole semester. 2 chapters would be on one test. He gave help after class if you went to his office and asked him for it.
Does not teach! Runs whole course on autopilot, via I- College. Will not help you, will defer you to your notes instead. Has an attitude, and treats adults like juveniles. Grimes is uppity, and simply runs through a lightning fast notes session each class. Then your on your own. Better off teaching yourself online. He is there to collect a check.

I couldn't agree more with the other reviews. Mr. Ryhmes is the perfect example of someone that just should not be teaching. He is rude, condesending, and unhelpful. He has no sense of humor what so ever. It seems that he really hates his job and the students. T
if you are bad at math, don't take his class. teaches straight from the book, doesn't explain, runs through notes, and doesn't prepare his students for tests. there is a lot of online work. however, he is very good at uploading grades and responding to emails. if you are good at math or have previously learned the material, you should be okay.
Just don't do it! I did not understand anything he taught. I learned more from doing the homework he assigned online then from him. He was also rude and acted as if the answers were obvious when asked a question. Also taught the easier questions in class and put VERY hard questions that we did not go over on the tests.

A good teacher who is fair. If you come to class, do the homework, and ask questions, u can pass.
His test are worth too much. So even if you do really well on your homework and quizzes, it doesn't even matter because those test will bring down your grade. His attitude sucks and he is just not a helpful person at all. DO NOT TAKE RHYMES!!!
Not a difficult class. Just do the homework. The quizzes are not difficult. You just have to study for the test.
The most unhelpful professor Ive ever had. When I emailed him about help with the math it took days for a response. Test are huge so you must do great on those to pass
This professor was not helpful at all. He talked about his personal life for most of the class. He did not help when you asked. He gave 85 questions on all the tests with only an hour to complete them. He only had 8 in person students this summer at the Newton Campus. You would think that he would have tried harder to assist. Bad experience!
I took him on Spring 2024. A lot of homework and reading. But if you study hard, you will be fine.
Don't ask questions, and if you do, prepare yourself to be yelled at for it. He loves to open the class for discussion then yell when you ask a question. I get it, saying the same thing over and over again is annoying but you are a TEACHER, you JOB is to TEACH us.
This is one of the most awful classes I ever had. Seriously. This guy reads off a powerpoint/does a shitty job with his explanations. You have to teach yourself. You get assigned hw everyday and it doesn't help that he introduces a topic one day and hops into a new one the next. Ask for practice tests for the exam? "No, just do the hw" Just awful.
A decent amount of homework and tests, but just enough that a good grade is easy to achieve. Answers questions and is super understanding about late assignments! All tests have two tries on every answer, and the content is easy to understand.
