if you want to learn alot about texas history i recommend you take mr. turner he seems to know what he is really talking about and is hard to really find. he is easy if you put forth some kind of effort.
I took HIST 1302 before I took Turner's HIST 1301, I recieved an A, a 97 to be exact in 1302, and in Turner's HIST 1301, I recieved a damn B. He is a smart guy, no doubt, but his tests are very confusing, and misleading. Nelson @ north campus is better.
great teacher!! he lectures like he's telling a story. he's always ready to answer questions and give advice when asked.
His tests really are misleading. He never read my book review thus, never graded it. I asked him about it 2 wks later and he said, "Oh I guess I just haven't read it yet." I dropped the class that same day. Sign up for Goss. She's great. Turner
Mr. Turner is great! He loves Texas History and you can tell by the stories he tells. He has so much knowledge about it and makes you interested in his class. I made a B, his tests are kindof hard but if you study, you'll pass. I loved this class.
Wonderful teacher! He taught me a tremendous amount about texas and made our term paper fun. Take him if your interested in actually learning rather than scraping by.
Mr. Turner is great, but I would not suggest him if you have problems being late (don't take him your first hour). He likes to start on-time, and he locks the door. Other than that, I never studied and got a 'C'.If I read the book I could have done better
You can learn alot in this class. Would say it is easy if you go to class and work hard on your essays.
very nice. excited about wut he teaches. very knowledgable and easy to understand. tests over notes. easy as long as u study. read two books. no papers.
mr. turner is a great teacher... if you like to take lots of notes!! but if you take good notes(everything he tells you) you will to really well on his test. they come straight from his notes. You don't even have to read the book if you take good notes
VERY GOOD TEACHER...KNOWS WHAT HES TALKING ABOUT(MAKES U TAKE LOTS OF NOTES)TESTS COME STRAIGHT FROM NOTES U HAVE TO READ TWO BOOKS(NOVELS) THREEE TESTS HAVE ESSAYS THE LAST ONE AND THE FINAL DONT....
Mr. Turner is a great teacher! i really think he knows what he's talking about. You can ask a question about anything in history and he can tell you right off the bat. You do take alot of notes- but come on-- it's college! dont expect to be babied!
He's a really good teacher. As long as you take good notes and study them, you'll ace this class!
dont take his class if you want to make a C. On the first day he talks about how important it is about coming to class....well I would have got my moneys worth if he would have showed up. He missed my class for about 2 weeks and then expects us to know what is on the test.
Well,I took it and didn't pass. I received a D average, which I was really disapponited. I would take notes according to all his lectures and felt like it was useless. I wish I would've known what class I was getting into, which is why I decided to comment on him.
Great teacher. Lots and lots of notes! I would recommend a tape recorder just to make sure you get everything. If you show up and pay attention, then the tests should be pretty easy because they come straight from what he talks about. I learned a great deal from his class and plan to take him for US History in the fall.
He is very smart and knows what he is talking about, but thinks everyone else is just as smart as he is! He grades papers very hard but as long as you study your notes the tests are pretty easy.
I took Mr. Turner in the spring for 1301 and he actually made me like history, i always hated it before. I think he is great. He made me want to learn more about History. I took 1302 in summer, besides reading 2 books. He is a Great teacher.!! i always hated history and now i find myself watching the history channel just to learn more now. take him
very boring lots of notes
Term paper was way too hard. Otherwise I learned more about Texas History then I ever imagined I would. It was SO interesting though! Kept it interesting!
I took Mr. Turner a few semesters ago. He was very interesting. Yeah he made you take a lot of notes but you came away from the class knowing a lot and was really a great source of information. He making you start to write essays are excellent practice for the university level work. A great professor!!!!
AMAZING TEACHER! Quite possibly the only reason that I'd consider going back to SanJac. Very clear in what he wants, very enthusiastic on the subject. TAKE HIS CLASS! Even if you don't like the subject, he makes it interesting.
The class is interesting.
He talks in circles, doesn't know true history, and grades papers REALLY hard. I wrote everything he wanted on a paper, and he still gave me a B. I do not like him and will never take him again. I will do good getting a C in the class.
WAS VERY GOOD
He is the best professor I have ever had. His lectures are very interesting. I have two more history classes to take and I will definitely pick him again!!
I had him over the summer. He told us upfront we didn't need the book and he was right. It was a really interesting and easy class. The tests were exactly from his notes. I got 100 on two of his tests. It was a breeze.
He knows a lot about what he teaches and doesn't just teach a bunch of boring stuff, even though it IS history.
Was a pretty easy teacher. Didn't even need to buy the book. Doesn't teach boring stuff. He actually made History interesting. Lecture intensive. Take a lot of notes and you will do good.
super good teacher. you take alot of notes, and read other stuff, but if you study and follow his instructions you'll be fine. didn't need the textbook... tests are mainly from his notes. he makes history fun, which is rare.
Turner has the perfect personality for teaching a Texas history course. If you really want to learn something about Texas history, take his class. Two books were assigned with three page reviews for each. Class was fairly easy but if you are not a dedicated student it can quickly get difficult.
Though the class is required to do 2 book reviews, this teacher is awesome. His approach is very easy to understand and straight-forward. He will keep you interested, and has a great sense of humor. If you can keep notes and read his two books, then it's impossible to fail.
he's an awesome teacher!!! we didnt use the book a lot. but you have to read two required books and have tests over those. the tests were pretty easy...you just have to make sure and show up for class and take notes.
I took his online class and was totally lost, I ended up dropping it. He wasn't any help with questions asked which meant there was no reason to try to communicate with him. I guess it would have been better to take his class on campus.
Very hard teacher. I took his online texas history class. I was very lost throughout the whole semester and he was not much help in answering my questions. His tests were so hard the class average was in the 60's and 70's! Makes you write two long papers. I struggled to make a B and I am an A student!
This class was extremly confusing to me and I'm a good student. He is really mean and rude and you have to be in class on time and be there everyday. He also plays favorites. I was lost in all the notes. He just drones on and on and on
Great teacher, goes through chapters very fast so good note taking skills are a must. If you don't show up you will not pass. All tests are over lectures. He has a limited BS tolerance and will tell you if you don't want to be there then don't come. Papers are no harder than any other paper for any other class!
I agree with a previous writer that this professor is rude. I had read good things prior to taking the class. Please don't make the same mistake I did. My opinion is that he is only doing his job b/c he has to. When looking at my grade outside his door, I overheard him say his test was so easy anyone could have made an "A". I made a "B".
I took this teacher for Hist. He was very easy. I didn't have a problem with him at all. His test were super easy and I enjoyed his lectures. He likes the university style in his class. If you're there or you're not, the class goes on. Just be there, take notes, and it should be a breeze.
He is a great teacher. yes, you have to come to class to be able to pass the tests, but it's not so bad. He usually makes his lectures tie in with the real world and he is pretty attractive. I would take his class again in the future.
HE'S AWESOME. I TOOK HIM IN A MINI AND IT WAS EASY. GO TO CLASS EVERYDAY FOR THE NOTES AND STUDY AND YOU'LL PASS FOR SURE. HE'S HOTT TOO, THATS A PLUS.
Mr. Turner was a very good teacher. He had a lot of knowledge on the events he discusses in class. You have to go to class everyday for notes. If you go to class and take notes you should come out making a good grade. I would take him again.
His classes are based on lecture so if your a good note taker listener then this is the class for you. In class we hardly used the history book issues 2 book reviews over the semester but if you take his min he doesn't issue book review. im more of a visual learner class didn't help me at all.
Professor Turner rocks!!!!! You have to go toclass and take notes, I'm not a reader so that worked out for me. Two book reviews but he is so helpful when you're writing them. I'm black- history is touchy for me but Turner explained and I enjoyed it.
He is great. Warning: his class is pure lecture so if you cant stand just writing, maybe not for you. In any case, he makes the lecture interesting adding stuff you might not have known. His test are easy just re-read your notes. He gives 2 book reviews which could b a hassle dont wait to the last minute. He is really nice but takes his job serious
I took this class online and he is very structured. He has a timeline and as long as you follow it you will do fine. 2 book reviews and a lot of book reading, but overall it was easy. He sends reminder e-mails to keep you on the timeline.
I took this class for the 8 week DE session. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO THAT. Inspite of the Hurricane and the semester extension, he closed out his exams at least 5 days before. I am independent and an A student but I struggled just to make a C in this class. That sucks. Maybe it would have been different to have a lecture session but I doubt it.
I took Professor Turner for the 8 weeks Distance Learning session, and I have to say, this class is all about reading the TEXTBOOK. There's 4 test and 2 book reviews. I made mostly B's on test, but failed to complete one of the Book Reviews, which made a huge impact on my grade, and I ended up getting a C. Gotta work to earn your grade.
I don't advise to take this teacher, it's all lecture, and you tend to wanna fall asleep. Two book reviews and they are HARD! Grades hard, and his test aren't one bit easy.
Online 8 week class is hard. The book is difficult to read and the questions on the test are detailed. He gives no extra credit.Be prepared to put lots of time reading and studying for this class.
I thought he was a great teacher. He was very clear from the beginning on what was expected. Reminded us every week when stuff was due. He say that you don't have to attend, but if you don't your not going to get averything. Be prepared to do alot of work, mainly reading.
Great course to take on-line. He answered all questions quickly and fixed any problems as soon as he was informed. 15 quizes 5 disscussion boards, and 1 major paper.
Online class. MUST READ the assignments. Tests are straight forward and he gives you the essay topics ahead of time. One extra book to read but it was only 6 chapters. 5th generation Texan and learned a lot I never knew in this class. He was prompt with email responses etc. I'd take the class again.
Online course. Great teacher. I never studied, googled all my test questions and was able to pass. It did require some researching, I learned alot. Offered a tour at the battleship for extra credit. A Must take!
Took 5 week online summer course. Had to read alot. If you go by his study guide you will pass for sure. Nothing was due until the final day of summer school so this class was adapted to your schedule. I got a B and was working 55hr weeks at work and taking this 5 week course. This guy tells you what is expected of on the 1st day i liked it.
I do not recommend you take this class online. The test are comprehensive but you cannot go back to change answers. there is a comprehensive question you can answer ahead of time. Test require a lot or studying. There is no extra credit so you get your grades from the exams.
Took him online in 8 week mini. History 1 then History 2. LOTS of reading!!! he gives you a review and 4 potential essay questions (the computer randomly selects one for you) for each exam. He is helpful and responds fast. If you have time to read he is worth taking!
Took him for the 3 week mini course. Excellent professor. Make sure you attend the class!!! He didn't require any papers due to the length of the course. 5 tests in 11 days. He gives reviews for each test which are directly related to the exams. Make sure you complete the review. You can't ask for it to be any clearer. He kept it very interesting.
Loved this professor! Must attend lectures b/c tests are from those notes. Delivers material in an interesting way which helps keep your attention. Planning on taking him for all my histories.
Mr. Turner has a kind of dry sense of humor but he is pretty easy overall. Make sure to take notes, do the reniews, study and you will pass. There two book reviews but they are probably the hardest part.
Took Professor Turner as an online class. If you don't like to read, you won't pass. LOTS of reading. There are 3 different reading materials he uses. Reviews have roughly 150 terms and the computer will randomly generate 50 questions. Always emails back in a timely manner, and answers all questions and willing to help if you need something.
This class was one of the most boring class I have ever taken, all it consisted of was copious note taking broken up by a test every couple weeks. He only gave six grades (3 tests, 2 book reports, and the final) which makes every grade count. I would not take another class taught by Mr. Turner.
Requires lot of reading every week in 5 wk online summer session and read a another book and do a book review, never explains the final grade. Not a easy class but you have to read and study to pass
Great teacher! He isn't the easiest but it is college! As long as you listen during the lecture and study you will do ok. I am not making an A in his class but I am taking him for 1302 because I really do learn from him. All notes and 2 book reviews and a couple tests. Book reviews are easy all you do is follow the directions!
4 tests & 2 book reviews is what this class consists of, meaning every grade counts & no room to slack off. Rather boring but you must pay attention at all times in order to understand the unit. I would only recommend him if you don't mind reading.
Loved this class! He gives interesting lectures and you just cant beat 4 tests and 2 book reviews. As long as you pay attention in class, it will be an easy A. He is a great professor!!!
A great professor! Made me love history which I didn't care much about before. It's not an easy class but you will learn a lot of things if you listen and study.
Overall, a very good professor, the two book reviews are not easy, especially if you had never written a book review before, but that's what the writing center is for. He has a dry sense of humor but can be funny.
I took him for 1301 and 1302. This class is purely lecture, which may seem boring, but the way he lectures makes you want to pay attention. Make sure you come to class daily because he takes role. Overall, a great professor. 1301 was 4 exams and 2 book reviews (Super easy, btw. I always put them off because they seemed so hard, but don't be fooled) and 1302 was 4 exams (3 had an essay question) and 1 book review. Take him.
He is very organized and uses Powerpoint, which makes taking notes a lot easier. He is a nice man and keeps the you interested in history.
Mr.Turner is really into what he teaches. This class is mostly note taking but everything he says is important. He does address what is on the EXAM. His exams are MAINLY 99% based off of his lectures BUT use the textbook as a guideline when studying. STUDYING IS CRITICAL. Everyone is really into his class. Very easy if you attend & pay attention.
He is an incredible professor. Mr. Turner is a great instructor that knows how to teach well. Take his class if you have a chance, he's great.
Mr. Turner is a very fair teacher. Be sure to read all documents thoroughly and pay attention to the assignments. There is a lot of reading in his course but you learn a lot. I liked this teacher enough to take another one of his history courses for spring semester.
Mr. Turner is a straight forward teacher. You get the grade you deserve. If you put in the effort, he'll reward you. If not, well, that is on you. He makes it clear, he gives you plenty on time, and he is there is you have questions. Good, solid teacher!
Honestly, I like his class but if you want A you have to study and study. You have to pay attention and read the book.
Mr. Turner is a great professor who loves what he teaches. He is very straight forward about your grade. 4 exams, 1 book review. Go to every class and study a lot to make an A.
Mr. Turner was an enjoyable teacher. His course was educational, but not overly-demanding, so it's a good course to take along with other courses. He gives pretty generous study periods before the tests or essays are due. He is not a strict grader, and his syllabus is very clear. Highly recommended!
I enjoyed the class but he is a little boring and we did a book review and turnitin messed up so I failed but if it would have turned in I would have passed easily. I like texas history so the class was pretty good. you have to studdy the book though and his test has a essay section that he usually expects 4 pages written and multiple choice.
Great professor that is willing to help you. He has 5 grades which consist of 4 tests and a book report. The tests are not too hard and all of the answers are in the notes. The test reviews shows the topics that are on the test. He tells you exactly how to do the book review making it fairly easy. I would take this professor again.
Good professor, no complaints. I took a 5 week class but pretty good. Attendance is a must.
Very hard but learned a lot and will remember it! Wish their were more to learn about women and minority groups because he totally skipped over this :(
Read read read! He only gives like 5 test plus document analysis, and discussions. Sometimes they are difficult sometimes they aren't. He gives great feedback to your work as well. Also his test are only 90 minutes for 50 questions so make sure you study & don't rush through your textbook while taking the test you wont have the time!
I took this teacher online, & it was one of the very first college classes I took. The syllabus was very clear, & the assignments were really easy. We had about 2 weeks of reading certain chapters from the book, & then a quiz based on the chapters. The final exam was an essay based on another book, which was short & easy to read. Easy class.
First off, I really enjoyed his class. He's a strict teacher when it comes to absences as a college teacher should be if you need notes they're there. AMAZING lectures. Really prepared to give good knowledge and interesting! Helpful as long as you ask questions but really everything on his powerpoints is all you need. Take notes and listen(:
great teacher, knowns what he is talking about. test are HARD!!!! STUDY STUDY STUDY! there is a essay in all the test that is very difficult if your not a good essay writer, must know the material for the test or you WILL fail.
TEXAS HISTORY: Pros: 1. Very enthusiastic and makes you interested. 2. Offers extra credit often. 3. If you have perfect attendance, you don't need the book. 4. Posts class power-points on BB. Cons: 1. Expect an essay with every test. 2. Late at posting grades. 3. Skipping class is not a good idea. 4. Expect a book review. 5. Long lectures.
Tests are pretty in-depth plus essay so if you don't know the material very well theres no way you'll pass. Bad teaching style compared to other hist professors. He rambles on and on, you have to catch the important key facts as he doesn't write it down on the board for you (he does this on purpose). Notes were all over the place, no hwork though.
Hard grader,
Professor Turner isn't too bad, but be ready to work. I took his online Texas History class, I had an assignment or 2 do every week. you will have 2 easy writing assignments essay format. Books are mandatory. What I didn't like about him was that he took forever to post certain grades and he wouldn't email me back or took forever to do so.
He was an amazing Professor. He is so much better in person than online, for no other reason than his lectures. If you want to really grasp what you are learning then his lectures will be invaluable to you! You must be ready to read too! He lectures from the book BUT you still have to read and you have to show up! He is a great Professor!
If you're gonna take his TX HIST online class, there is 1 test every week. Some Discussion Boards and Document Analysis. Be prepared to read. You need 3 books for this class. To pass, just do the reviews, you can find the review answers on google and on his power points. If you're lazy and like an easy class, do not take him then. HARD GRADER!!
3 books are needed for this class and I have taken history classes where is just 1 book. You have to have a lot of free time to complete the assignments plus the reading the chapter book and other 2 books.
Loved him! wish I was a history major so that I could take more of his classes!
If you are looking for an easy "A" that you don't have to work to get, don't take his Texas History class. If you keep up and read, read, read and do the study questions, you can do well on his tests. There are two essay assignments and four discussions and four document analysis. Prof. Turner answered emails in a timely manner and was helpful.
He will not make ANYTHING else available if you don't do the assignment he wants you to finish first. So if you're having trouble on something and want to move on instead, thats not an option. Also, just when you think you only have 3 things due, according to your gradebook, 3 things will magically appear once you finish an assignment.
I took Turner's ol class after being out of college after 2 years. Comments on her that aren't in the red are quite accurate. YOU WILL READ. TBk was not boring. Also,in the middle of the Ol class I had an emergency happen and he was understanding about it and gave me a few extra days to recover. If you try,you will pass. He is a fairly easy grader
I took his online 5-wk mini, and I do not regret one bit. He gives you a great course calendar with all the assignment on it. It is not too tough on grading, but you need to make sure that you stick to his rubric. 14 chapter test, 4 discussion boards, 4 document analysis, and one essay. You have to spend sometime reading, but he's best at San Jac!
Professor Turner is by far the best professor I've had. He is very respectful, straightforward, and makes his lectures very interesting. You get 4 exams, and then a final exam. The exams are based off reading and lectures. He gives you reviews that extremely helpful for the upcoming exams. He helps you learn to the best of your ability.
His grading system ran by few things overall - Tests, Document Analyses, Discussion Boards, Common Assignment, and a Book Test. If you're good at absorbing through reading, it'll be an easy class because all the test questions are directly taken from there. He's straightforward with all the due dates, and gives reasonable time to complete.
Professor Turner was amazing. Although I am not a History major and do not intend to be, Professor Turner definitely caught my attention through his lectures and revealed surprising information about our beloved state's history. He is a very strict grader, participation is mandatory in order to pass, and offers extra credit assignments.
