KNows what she is doing. Give good notes. I respect her.
A very nice and helpful teacher. Definately a teacher that you want for Bio. Gives great notes and keeps clas interesting.
She is AMAZING!!!Her class is interactive and actually fun.She may have corny little diagrams and illustrations but she teaches nonetheless. She is EXCELLENT.As long as you pay attention in class and study the notes she gives you will do GREAT>
Dr. Kelly is wonderful. She is an excellent teacher. I have her for lecture as well as lab. She is so on the level and makes sure you understand what's goin on. She does some funny drawings, though i'm not sure i'll ever understand the krebs cycle.
great teacher tests could be easier
She is a great professor. She makes sure U understand the work and she teaches well. Just study all the notes and pay attention in class and U'll do fine.
Awesome teacher! I wish she would teach all my classes! Her lecture is easy to follow, and with her silly jokes and enthusiasm, a pleasure to attend! Highly recommended!
One of my fave teachers! Wish she would teach all my classes. Pace definetly needs more young enthusiastic, ENGLISH, speaking teachers like her!
Shes an awesome teacher, shes cool, shes understanding, and shes helpful. Shes the best bio teacher u can ask for cuz she makes sure u understand everything and if u dont she takes the time to help you.
Great teacher. Writes and explains everything on the boards. Walks into things but is fun
Expect too much from her ****ing lab class, and makes us do more work then anyone else. She cares more about talking about her kid then anything else and care more about bacteria then teaching.
Completely unforgiving. Doesn't give anybody a chance. Very anti-understanding, doesn't realize that people have situations.
Absolutly AMAZING! LOVED HER! She's fun, energetic and a total sweetheart. Tests could be alil easier but as long as you read the notes and semi-pay attention you'll do great! No surprises, very straightforward.
One of the best teachers I have had. Very striaght forward, tells you exactly what she wants, and is one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of talking with! Just pay attention and u'll do ok!
Has her favorites. Would not give certain students the time of day. Was a straight forward teacher - but not helpful if not one of her friends.
Nice lady, but has favorites and is very unforgiving, failed my friend for no reason and did not attempt to help her one bit. Only remembers the students she likes and her Lab is the hardest out of all the labs!
One of the best bio teachers i have ever had. She was so easy to understand. She made sure everything is easy to comprehend. Also, she curves when it comes to lab grades vs lecture grades. An all over great teacher!!
I know more about her son then the bio material which is sad. Awfullll teacher, I sit in the front, and i learn very little. Gives us a work load and expects us alot from us.
Very demanding but fair prof. Makes sure everyone knows the material and explains it very well. But you do have to know A LOT for tests.
this teacher is great. Thanks to her our bio department is greatly improving. She always makes sure everyone understands and is very straightforward with material. Dont listen to any students that dont like her. They are just too lazy to study the notes
Shame on you prof kelly for sending people to spy on your own students. And y do you only remember all the good student's names. remember the ones that are doing bad and actaully help them instead of not having office hours during finals week! aweful!!!
She sent in spies to catch cheaters, if you miss a test and give her a dr note SHE CALLS THE OFFICE TO SEE IF YOU WHERE THERE, she has favorites but claims not to, could careless about the people having trouble in her class, and is not a nice person BEWARE
teaches very clearly but doesnt explain. There are to many notes.Doesnt influence class participation, and goes way to fast. Expects us to know a "biology textbook" on her tests. (too much)Improvements must be made.
If you want a professor who will give you 3 pages of notes per lesson and not care about you or even have the decency to remember your name, then take her.But if you want a good professor that cares about and helps their students, then DONT TAKE HER!!!
Good teacher, expects you to know a ton but gives good notes. Will always give you credit for a test question later if you have a valid point or even quasi-valid. Not easy but interesting and fair. Cheaters bl*w.
very thorough...she expects alot from you, so this isn't a class you can slack in, but shes also very helpful and just a nice person in general. she makes bio interesting.
She is a great professor and is always there to help her students, anyone taking bio 101 I recomend that you take her class. Her tests are not that bad either if you study her notes carefully
Dr. Kelly is the best!!! she is so smart, you can really learn alot from her unlike that kipp with that annoying laugh, who bossed me aroung the lab when i put beakers on a table
Sh eis the BEST biology teacher ever!!!! She explains everything so clearly, and will not go on if anyone is unclear. Always there to help and does not want you to fail. Her exams are straight from her notes, nothing more. So basically all you have to do is study the notes befor the exam & ull b fin
THE DEVIL....Yeah all you freshman think shes nice wait till grading time. Remember i said it
Shes too strict
this lady meant that this class is hard....if there was another prof i would take them...tests are not soooo bad...but im sure the final will be ! she took away our extra credit ...ugh..!
She should be nice with her students.
DO NOT BE FOOLED! She teaches well, and her tests are straight from her notes. But the only way you will do well in this class is if you do well in lab as well. If you have an A in lec and a C in lab, mark my words, you will most likely get a C in her class. Grades very unfairly. Syllabus misleading
If you want a good grade, this is not the prof.to take. You can get 90's in lecture, but if you get anything less than a B in lab, your grade will suffer. She is an unfair grader because she puts too much on the lab and discussion group. She is very disorganized. You will be dissappionted with her.
now, it's true that she puts too much weight in the lab and discussion portion of the grade, but i still think her class is worth taking. i got a C in bio 101 (i was crushed), but i learned so much from that class, that it was definitely my favorite. don't slack in lab, STUDY for lab exams!!!!
She was great in Micro lecture. Her tests are exactly from the notes, and she writes all important info on the board. If you take notes, or get the notes and study them, you will do fine! I was shocked I got an A- in micro!
she is not a good teacher. very bad grader very unfair. she makes the class interesting. she does not keep her promises. she thinks that thats the only class you taking. lab exams and lecture exams almost at the same time plus lab reports.
This is the hardest teacher that I have ever taken at Pace, she is very unfair when it comes to grading and she does not give anyone a chance, I had to option but to take her twice since she was the only one teaching the class.Think about it twice!!!!!!!
She might act like she is your best friend in class, but trust me she wants nothing to do with you. I never met a teacher that didnt have 2 secs to answer a simple question. I would not take her class. It is not worth your time!!!!
She is a very helpful teacher. She will not have a problem assisting you with someone if you actually go to her. She is very promt with replying to messages and isn't afraid to act goofy just to keep her class entertained.
She is a ****. She acts nice in class, but if you go to see her in her office or outside of class, she is so ****y. She thinks she's all cool because she looves bacteria. OOH. She doesn't take time to help you or anything. She sucks as a teacher and a person.
Unhelpful Yes it's college but Ive taken other professors at Pace and they atleast show a little compassion and respect She demands respect from her students but totally disregards their feelings. If you want to fail take her, the people who gave her good reviews were probably suckups.I dropped the class last week get 90's in hs get D's in hers
Her class is so hard, its unimaginable, she gives us to much work, dosent give us a review sheet like other professors and is crazy. Just Crazy i tell you!!!
She thinks that her call is the only class your taking. She talks about her son way too much. She acts nice but she is such a ****. She acts like she cares but she is thinking get the hell out of my face. Attaches 10 zillion things to her lecture. NOT GOOD. ALL ABOUT THE HONOR STUDENTS.
Terrible professor, she can not teach a class, she gives us too much work and expects us to memorize every thing she puts on the board. Her tests are not easy, if you think you can pass with an A+++ in her class,,dream on, shes a nightmare, also she says corny jokes all the time,,talks about her son pooping.
For those of you who chose bio as amajor and think 101 is "EXTREMELY" hard so therefore blame the clearest and most helpful professor, I think you should drop, some people are not meant for science just like I'm not meant for math. She's an extremely clear professor. Lots of studying, but hey that's Bio for you...and it's just going to get better h
You failed already. Doesnt care about anyone/anything but herself and herself. I have a 3.8 GPA and so its coming from a good student, she is the worst. Not helpful, nasty, unhappy about her own life so she makes everyone elses miserable. She tried going out of her way to fail me and still couldnt do it. don NOT take this witch.
This _ _ _ _ lost her mind. Im telling all my fellow pace people to boycott her class. Drop out before you take it, same result, you wont get credit. Shes one of those professors that was hired to make students lives miserable. Just a disgusting person all together, why would you want to even deal with it. Plenty of other better prof. for BIO

Maybe if you people would stop wasting your time complaining about her and go study a little, you can actually do good. I have never understood biology until Dr. Kelly taught it to me. Yea, the class is hard, but thats because its BIOLOGY, not phys ed. If you study JUST HER NOTES, you are guaranteed to do well. One of the best professors at pace!!!
the fact that some people are so bitter that they would talk about her looking like a rat and being miserable is ridiculous. she is one of the happiest people ive ever met. the class is hard and you have to study. if you cant handle that then its not dr. kellys fault. she's a wonderful prof. who actually cares about her students
...always willing to help. She would "bend over backwords"(Dr.Kelly, lecture notes 2005)to help you with everything. Tests are not easy but there is no way they can be easier with this amount of information. If you do bad blame it on yourself...
Dr. Kelly is an amazing professor. Yes, there are a lot of notes but her lectures are very clear and if you do not understand she encourages questions. Shes a very sweet lady who always takes time out to help. Every time I see her shes always smiling which makes her very approachable. Memorize your notes and the class is an easy A.
if you're not a hard worker...then do not take this class. this class is anything but an easy A. but, if you do you best, kelly will do everything she can to help you out. she's a great professor who really wants her students to understand the material. if you're not afraid of a challenge...i totally recommened the class
No matter what anyone says, a professor CANNOT I repeat cannot, get more CLEAR than Kelly. Her expectations are clearly outlined. Her tests are LITERALLY STRAIGHT from her notes, and she writes EVERYTHING on the board. You just gotta memorize the notes. She explains concepts over and over. There's no reason to fail her class unless U REALLY lazy.
Her tests are impossible! Yeah her notes cover the material but there is a lot of stuff and you have to understand the terminology in her notes anyway. If it hadn't been for lab I wouldn't have done so well. 3 Exams (mc), quizzes, and the final. Wish she would give more extra credit options.
shes a good teacher.. VERY in depth. nothing like hs bio. soo much detail and the exams are challenging. u really have to work hard to get a decent grade.
Oy, is the only thing I can say about this professor. She picks favorites, her special honor's people...she offers them more help in her class like looking over their reports and telling them how to improve them before handing them in. Her tests are impossible, even if you do study her notes. She will always find a way to trick you or get under you

she definately picks favorites. one of the WORST professors i have had at pace (been here all 4 years).
she shattered my dreams in college, PICKS FAVORITES...if you dont bend over and kiss her ass she will LITERALLY screw you over...WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!! DOSENT KNOW HOW TO TEACH!
So most students who hate this class are those freshman unready to work hard for their career. This class is a foundation course, which means there is a lot of material covered. She writes it all on the board. That is very generous. Upper level courses are a lot more unorganized. She is so enthusiastic and big on following directions.
RUN FOR YOUR LIFE IF YOU HAVE HER!!!!!!!!!!
EVIL! MEAN! ULTRA SRICT! EVERYTHING MUST GO HER WAY! THINKS SHE'S BETTER THAN EVERYONE! ONLY CATERS TO THE SUCK UPS! TOTALLY UNFAIR! DO NOT TAKE HER EVEN IF YOU LIFE DEPENDS ON IT! SHE ACTS THINKS HER CLASS IS THE ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD SO SHE WORKS YOU TO DEATH WITH NO REMORSE! NO CARE WHATSOEVER! WORST PROFESSOR EVER! AVOID HER LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!
First let me start by saying to the person who said that the only people that fail are freshman who don't want to work hard, that is an unfair and untrue statement to make. I am an extremely hard worker and I DO care about my future and my career but this professor makes it impossibile to succeed. Out of 100 only 5 people passed.
She's a really great professor and is willling to help out everyone and anyone. She gives great notes that you don't even need to open the text book. She helps you learn a lot and is a great professor. I recommend her a lot!!

She is a great professor! Lectures and notes are crystal clear. Exams/quizzes are tough. Do not take until you have developed some good study habits. If you have, take her! It's a great foundation for a career in bio.
This is the worst professor in the whole entire world! She talks to much about her damn kids comes up with these retarded knock knock jokes. Doesnt teach but just talk, talk talk, for three hours. The ones who pass are the brown nosers.
She does NOT care about her students. Plain and simple.Did well in 101 but barely passed 102. Her notes are the best thing about her class. Trouble is, there's too many. Even grad students would struggle here. Discourages students on going to med school if they do poorly on her tests. Don't listen to her, go for it with a different professor!!
Wow. It sounds like most who post on this are trying to blame other people than themselves for their poor performance. This class is hard with alot of material, but it's the foundation course for a career in Biology; what do you expect? She keeps the interest as best as she can. If you find yourself failing/doing poorly...look at what you can do.
This class is hardddddd. Her quizes using the remote clicker are pointless because no matter how well you study she finds a way to throw in questions you wont get right. She wants to be nice and personal but in the overall the class will depress you and your gpa
She is a very good professor. If you need help or have a question shes there to help. The class is hard and you will have to study. You cannot depend on memorization because in this class it wont work. She writes notes on the board and all her quizzes or tests are based on them. Shes hard but the class is worth it.
she is a real ---- . Has no care or remorse for other people. Thinks she is in charge of the school. Take Dr. Schiffenbauer if possible avoid Kelly. Her tests are insane and all she cares about is gaining more power in pace university. Likes to fail poeple and her tests are nothing like her lecture. Complete **** and a real backstabber beware!!!
Attend every single class AND copy ALL notes from the board, then memorize ALL her notes for quizzes--1 quiz per week--then yuo'll get 100% on them! Guaranteed! For midterm study all quizzes and notes, final is cumulative of both semesters. Forget the book, copy the notes! Hard work will get you through the class successfully!
Worst and disorganized
It's a college course! Face it - it's going to be challenging and intense. Yes, Dr. Kelly does write down everything, but its better to read her notes than that entire textbook! The tests are from your notes! Study from day one, and you will do fine. She is always willing to help those that want to learn. Just ask
Extremely helpful. She writes all the notes on the board in an organized fashion and the quizzes are taken directly from the notes. Always reminds us of her office hours if additional help is needed. Great enthusiasm in lectures.
Dr. Kelly is an amazing teacher. Yes the class is hard but its a intro course and you need to know the information for any other bio class you take. 1 quiz per week but if you copy her notes they are pretty easy .. she mentions her office hours all the time and is willing to help anyone who actually takes time to go and see her. TAKE THIS CLASS !!
The most difficult professor I've ever had. She has no remorse whatsoever. I guess her attempt is to prepare you for the real world, but she seems to forget that this is COLLEGE, not an OR where knowing the gylcolisis cycle and the enzymes through each process on the spot will kill or save someones life. Save yourself from a lot of stress and tears.
I have Dr. Kelly right now and yes the work is difficult but I don't think I'd blame her if I failed. If anything I'd blame myself. She's nice and very helpful.
SHE IS GREAT! she expects you to do the reading and the work and to put in the effort, as she should. she is all about your grade being your responsibility and shes right. she is also really nice and explains everything and writes on the board for you. she is the best bio teacher ive had + ive taken 5 different bio/ related classes in the past
I honestly study and review her notes, but for the clicker quizzes i do extra work like reading the textbook and answering bio questions online. The clicker questions mostly annoy me, since it's only a minute per question. Hopefully i will do well.
I didn't find her to be exceptional at all. She does an okay job of teaching, but she is not at all helpful. It's not fair that her students have to suffer because of her schedule. She makes it seem like she spends a lot of time dealing with her position of department chair, and as little as possible dealing with her classes.
She writes most of what she says on the board, but I would pay careful attention to what she's saying just in case she doesn't.
She is an excellent teacher. She gives all of her notes on the board and all of her test/quizzes are from them. She explains the material really well and will take time to explain things and answer questions.
Her lectures are great, they give you all the information you need and they are usually able to keep you semi-awake. The quizzes aren't too horrid, just be sure to study.
she writes everything u need to kno on the broad. u really dont need ur text book at all. like she is the textbook. make sure u dont miss a day of her class.her clicker quiz are a lil hard. if u get her, go 2 her and asks for her old quiz and study them bc about half of those question will be on the quiz. and just from ur old quiz it will beon fina
Very strict on attendance, takes it every day with "clickers"..and counts heads so giving them to someone else to sign you in is worthless..writes everything on the board, tries to be nice...class is tiring but if you pay attention and take notes you learn something. Not the worst in the world but not the best
She is really nice; however, she is a damn hard professor. Good luck.
Yes, it is a hard course so be prepared to study. She writes down 98% of her notes in an organized fashion, study the notes for the weekly clicker quizzes. She uses these to take attendance (dont try to give it to a friend bc she counts) Don't really need the textbook bc she gives detailed notes. Class is based on memorization of EVERYTHING!
i think she is a rough prof...she writes all her notes on the board but the rough part is honors lab...very very critical and rough grader
Kelly is the worst professor I've come across in my 4 years She only teach topics that she enjoys, and will go into them in great detail. This is helpful if you will be taking the MCAT, as a general bio course, there weren't nearly enough topics covered.I compared what we learned with my friends at other schools that they had learned much more th
Dr. Kelly, in my opinion, is an amazing professor. She goes over a topic thousands of times, and asks the students if we understand. When she goes over a rough topic, she would tell a joke to relieve our head aches. You must devote your time if you want a good grade. Dr. Kelly is always there to help! If you take Kelly, You Will Learn Bio!
Kelly is hard, but a brilliant teacher. She is very thorough in teaching the material, that you do have to put a lot of effort into it, but its worth it in the end realizing how much you really get out of her classes. She is also always available for help, and I never hesitate to reach out to her. She will def. help you achieve if you are willing.
This is not an easy class but worth taking. I think people have it wrong, she is not a difficult professor it is a difficult course. She repeats things over and over and is very clear. Take great notes. I enjoyed the class and would recommender her.
Tests do not accurately reflect the amount of material taught. Be ready for super challenging tests. She's good, but it's hard to do well. She never curves.....ever.
I personally do not feel that her teaching style is conducive to the material she taught in class. I also think that the way she sets up/grades her tests make it pretty difficult to do well. There is definite favoritism as well and this is coming from someone who slacked off. I performed just as well as others who received higher grades somehow....
She's a really clear and thorough teacher. She also gives great notes in class. The tests are super difficult though. Way more difficult then her notes would imply. If bio is your major, take her class because she'll help you in the future. If you have to take bio to graduate, avoid her at all costs.
The course is a very difficult course altogether and she does make it easier to understand. She is very energetic and does try to simplify the more difficult concepts. BUT the test are much much harder then the notes imply. Best to also read the txtbook and add on to notes. Great for 1st year bio students
Okay, Kelly plays favorites with the entire class, and it honestly feels like she is just sadistic. She makes tests that average in the 50's and does not care, it is all the student's fault, not hers at all. FYI you will be forced to attend "seminars" that are a complete waste of time and do not impact your grade in the slightest possible way.
Kelly is a very tedious teacher! Do not take her if you are not a bio major! If you are a bio major she helps a lot understanding the concepts. Her tests are very hard. A lot of the questions aren't your straightforward questions they are applied knowledge kind of questions. Lab will help your grade a lot. Do not take if you are not bio major
This class is definitely difficult and you have to use the textbook if you want to get a good grade on her tests. The tests are harder than what she makes you think. If you're taking Bio as your major you should try to stick to her class. The material is hard, but you'll remember and understand it better with Dr. Kelly.
She'll teach you FACTS. She WON'T teach you how to APPLY and COMPREHEND them. Her exams are based off of application and comprehensive questions. You're probably thinking, "why would Kelly make her exams based on questions she won't teach us how to solve?" It's b/c she wants her students to go the extra mile when it comes to studying the material.
Her exams are hard because she expects you to do extra studying and get help from extra resources. You can't expect any biology exam to be easy. Biology is one of the hardest majors out there, and you can't expect people to spoon-feed you everything. Do your work, haul ass, b/c you're competing with thousands of other future med-school candidates.
Prof. Kelly is highly intelligent and knows a lot about biology. However her exams are not easy, they are more application than facts. If you memorize instead of understanding the concepts you will not do well on her exams. She is also very specific about leaving class or arriving late.
Worst professor ever gives tests and no review sheets and she is very rude and obnoxious when you ask her questions. Don't take her class. She's boring
I have her this semester. I am a Bio major and after taking her, I am going to shift major. Her class is harder than my other class and to think this is my first Bio course. She don't care if her class is failing.
She knows what she's teaching and does her best to help you. Go to her office hours and have her check your work. Her tests are difficult, so plan on STUDYING for a week or two ahead of time. Use the online book! I only know of two people in my 80 person class who received A's. The class is a challenge, but you will really learn if you try!
An A is hard to get in her class. She gives few tests which forces you to cram a bunch of information so you obviously won't learn as much. She is fair when it comes to labs. Do not study from her notes, study from the textbook and her clicker questions. She has attitude but she occasionally demonstrates the material in a really fun way.
Doesn't know how to teach. Asks about the tiniest details on tests. Constantly cancels office hours and is only there on class days. Think she is wrongmade a mistake?! Tell her and make the blacklist. Doesn't take criticism well. Believes that the # of students failing is directly proportional to her teaching skills coz she's "challenging you".
She is probably one of the worst professors I've had in the 3 years as a third year Bio major. Yes biology is a hard subject to learn, but she makes it almost unbearable. Gives three exams so you cram everything and don't learn it correctly. Lectures are pointless except she gives clicker questions, STUDY TEXT BOOK and you maybe will get a C-
She is a nice person. She complains a lot about her having to grade all of our stuff when in fact she only grades our exams on scantrons. She tries to make the content less difficult. Know the material and you'll pass the class.
Dr. Kelly is a great lecturer. However, this course is not easy. She challenges you with applicational questions on the exam to ensure that you actually understand the material taught in lecture so if you're not willing to do the work then you will not pass this class. Actually read, ask questions, and study hard to survive this course.
Look at test banks for the book and you'll do fine in the class.
Dr. Kelly is a very smart woman. She has her PhD and makes sure to let everyone know that along with every waking detail about her family. She usually spends the first 30 minutes of each lecture either telling us about her family, flipping out on us for not doing well on exams/assignments, or complaining that people must attend her office hours.
If you want to get an A in this class, drop all of your other classes and dedicate all your time to BIO. I ended up withdrawin this class, and if you still have time, do it. I'm sure she's a sweet person outside of class, but as a professor you will dislike her. Has an attitude, is pretentious, and personally I hated her lectures. Very hard exams.
I remember I had class with her before a chem exam, and a lot of people didnt come to class so they could study, so she gave even more pop quiz questions than usual just to screw them over. Also, she said "our tuition" bought the scan tron machine. I find that very inappropriate, and rude.
If she was really smart Dr. Kelly would have actually been a real doctor. She constantly talks about her family in class when in reality no one really cares.... Her labs were okay pretty boring. Her lectures are lengthy and she makes her tests the exact test banks. She says they are challenging but if you look at test banks you'll realize its easy
Worst class ever. Tests/quizzes were not based on lectures. She's also very condescending.
Dr Kelly was the worst teacher/professor I've ever had since 4th grade she is always talking about her family, and that subject is probably the best thing about her class. You will most definitely fail this class. She almost never gives anything to study off of, and is always giving pop quizzes.
Disappointing .
Writes her own reviews. She's a horrible professor and will make you change your major. Ask people around campus who have taken her course and you will hear the response they give you. Its the most accurate!
Her lectures are somewhat interesting, but her tests are not based on her lectures. I recommend reading all the chapters before her exams and you will pass. I stopped going to lecture because I realized that I wasn't learning anything by going, but she sometimes gives participation points by putting us into groups. Don't let this class discourage u
Okay everyone here is freaking out way too much. I read all these before going to her class and i was so worried and I am here to tell you NOT to worry. She is actually one of the few profs at pace that teach. She goes very in depth. You have to read the textbook and stay up on the subjects. Honestly a great professor, do not let this site scare u
you need to basically have the book in your head to pass her exams
Dr. Kelly does not get enough credit. She really makes you work for your grade, but if you put in the work you will definitely get a good grade. Reading these reviews I was very nervous going into this class, but TRUST ME just do as she tells you and you will succeed.
Mom is truly the best professor I have had at Pace yet far. Going into this class I was so nervous because I heard that she was mean. However, she truly does care about each and everyone of her students. Going to her office hours are key to doing well in the class. Don't wait until right before the test, make sure you are prepared well before hand.
She's a fine professor. Don't like being forced to buy her textbook. Have her repeat stuff if needed. Ask her stuff, she might seem harsh at some points but she is helpful and cares enough to solve your problem. She might be very busy at times though.
Bio 101 is supposed to be a hard course... go to office hours and ask questions and you will be fine. Read textbook before going to class, and focus on the review questions on mastering biology.
If you have Dr Kelly, go to her office hours, try and get to know her well, she's the least scary professor I have ever met and she just wants to see her students happy. if you have the opportunity, go to her office hours. She's extremely easy to talk to, and is completely understanding with mental health issues. She's the mom of the bio dept.
Doctor Kelly is very kind and caring. That being said, I had her for lecture and she asks a lot of questions using the iClicker in her class. These helped my understanding a lot, especially when she gave us multiple chances to talk to others to figure out the questions. Definitely recommend going to her office hours if you have her.
Horrible horrible teacher. I hated her class. She cant teach at all and she grades without mercy. Her midterm is nothing like her lectures. She gives very little instruction and expects you to teach yourself. She also told us theres no way to study bio Whats the purpose of me taking the class then? If you can avoid her classes, please do so.
I like her lectures they are cool. I failed 7th grade English.
I had Kelly for lecture and lab and shes literally the sweetest person. The class itself is difficult, but she does her best to simplify topics. Homework every week, but its graded only on completion. Get to know her and go to her office hours!!
Dr Kelly is the most amazing, thoughtful professor I have had at Pace. The lectures are big- it is SO important to go to her office hours. She cares about each student and has gone above and beyond to help me, even outside of bio related issues. She acknowledges that the class is hard, so putting effort in (office hours) will help your grade.
She does not teaches well and had very difficult exams..
she is willing to help you if you need it but she always seems very busy. the lectures alone are not enough to do good in the class you have to read the textbook and make sure you memorize important facts to do good on her tests. discussion group is also needed for this class but the modules did not help at all.
If I had to give advice to someone taking her class it would be to focus on blackboard and your books more so than trying to take notes in her lecture hall. She has a habit of telling the class stories about her family that dont correlate with the PowerPoint. Which is fine and all but she goes through the slides in 3 minutes or less
clicker questions count for your attendance. her exams are different , part 1 you do alone and part 2 you do the same exam with a group. the exams are difficult and application based. you need to know the material front and back to do well. the lab portion is a huge grade booster. chances are the person next to you is just as confused.
Dr. Kelly is probably the least considerate professor I have this semester. Taking BIO101 in the middle of a pandemic is difficult enough, and she doesnt try to accommodate at all. Beware, when midterms come, shell blame you on your low class average and then provide the last 10 years class averages (>70%, every year). Do not take her section!!
I was nervous taking Dr. Kelly after reading all of these negative reviews, and via Zoom with no in person classes. However, Dr. Kelly ended up being one of my fave professors. As long as you study the notes she posts, go to office hours, and STUDY, you should be fine! I got an A in this class and you can too as long as you work for it.
Bio 101 is a tough class in general and having to take it online didnt help. I think Dr. Kelly is very nice and she cares a lot about her students but she is very tough and never gives any extra credit or curves or anything. You have to understand everything thoroughly to do well
Shes a catty kerfuffler. Ill leave it at that. Also, I did not take this class
Gives class participation activities at the end of class and expects you to stay after to complete these assignments. If you do not, you get a 0. Is she not aware that people have classes after? 135 question assessments, sometimes with questions that are 5 paragraph long, timed in 120 minutes. Threw a question "what is on page 16 on a quiz."
she favors certain students and its so obvious. she has unrealistic demands and expectations, tricky test questions, snotty when you go to her office, like you are bothering her even though she has office hours. Stay away.
At first, I hated her. the work seemed impossible to do and her grading was so harsh. After meeting her outside class, having conversations and learning about her she seemed like a nice person. The work was difficult but get to know her, she won't let you down. show interest and get your work done and you will pass the class.
Very difficult professor with exams that do not align to what was covered in class.
In all honesty, I wish I hadn't taken this course. The tests are heavy but more than that, it feels like she is rooting for your failure. She is unempathetic towards why students may be struggling, and what they may be going through. Empathy is important in this environment, and I hope every student can receive that in the future.
Do not take her class.
