UMMM...well she is defintely in her own category. do all your work, dont piss her off by being late and you'll pass
That women is crazy yall she acts like something she's not but i guess she's tring to make a stand ( whatever)
i wish i could...umm thats not nice. she is a real bi-ach. Dont take her at all unless your better in english than she is.
Don't push her, but she knows her stuff. Take some effort and you'll be fine.
I learned more in one semester with her than I learned in like 4 years in highschool. She isn't easy, but she will teach you what you need to know. Don't expect an A just for showing up, but you WILL get your money's worth. Best class ever.
good luck with her you'll need it. nobody had an A
This class helped my writing alot.
I recommend never taking her for any class. She told my class at the beginning of the semester that she would answer emails that we wrote to her at amy time during the semester asking for her help. That was a lie. I wrote her at least 4 emails last semester, and she never wrote back even when i asked her specifially and she said she would.
She was the best professor i have ever had. She was very patient with me and was always willing to help. If i emailed her with a question, she responded promptly. She made king arthur more fun than i thought possible. If more teachers were like her, the world would be a better place.
She only gives good grades for papers that are in her preferred style even if they are legitimately well written papers. Very strict and will NOT give extra credit. Hypocritical when it comes to due dates because she will not accept any late assignments but does not mind taking more than 3 weeks to return them with very few corrections on them.
She is a very helpful teacher and improved my writing a lot. She is willing to help but YOU have to ask for it, don't expect it the other way around. Someone said that no one got an A in her class. Well I got one and English is my second language. This shows that it is possible to get an A...just put some work in it. Good luck
This class was hard, but I learned a lot from the professor. She made Shakespeare interesting and fun. She was also very helpful when I needed help.
hate her!!!! what a bit**, although she loved my papers... She's a new professor who has to prove herself to the school. Take at your own risk.

Great teacher. Explains exactly what she's looking for in your papers. Keep on top of your work and final should be a breeze. As stated, very helpful if you approach her or email her.
Very good professor. Always pleasant and willing to help when I asked. Hard fast paced class. If you stayed on top of the work it was not too bad. I would take a class with this professor again.
I learned a lot but WOW, it took more work than all my other classes combined (and I still only got a "B")!
Tough class, tough prof.
if you do all of your homework, get good grades on everything she collects, none of this will even matter if you do not write the way that she wants you to.She expects everyone of her students to be english majors,She needs to realize that this class is a prerequisite for every major possible.I attended every class, sat in the front, too.stay away!
shes makes the class fun
Probably the worst prof ever. I am an A English student and I failed the class. So fair warning to everyone she is a terrible teacher and will fail you cause she just wants to be mean.
If you are already good at english she is fine. If you have a lot of learning to do you will not like her class. She is seriously lacking in teaching skills
Prof. Boas is a good instructor who knows tons about Shakespeare. She has very strict grading policies and wants extremely detailed information in discussions and essays. Overall, keep on top of the reading and prepare yourself for your essays and the class shouldn't be too bad.
awesome teacher! great person! if she weren't married i'd ask her to bear my kids
She is definitely not easy, but if you pay attention and use her comments, you will be writing excellent papers by the end of this class. A lot lot LOT of work, but she is very knowledgeable and I learned a lot from her. I will say, though, that she is not the most accessible or responsive person. Is slow to respond to emails.
Great Professor. She knows her stuff and expects everyone to take her class seriously. She is willing to help students who make a genuine effort. Just dont slack off all semester and go crying for her help towards finals. 121 is an intense class, so expect to work hard and fast.
Very Very hard grader. I busted my ass to get a c in the class. I would never take a class with her again. On the first day she said to get an A on a paper it had to be prefect, and then she said there is no such thing as perfect. Plus she made us do 18 hrs of service learning.
She was so much fun. I really enjoyed taking her class and I thought she was a great techer. She was willing to help me with any problems I had
Do not take her!!! I worked so hard in that class and i got a c. if english is your bad subject then deffinitly do not take her, and if ur good at writing i still wouldnt take her bc she wont give u a deserving grade. I cant stress how much she made my semester hell. if ur smart stay away!
Professor Boas has a "my way or the highway" mindset and so I felt she grades unfairly because of it. Several of the writing assignments given out were penalized for criteria she mentions offhandedly, but were not contained in the assignment sheets. I would NOT recommend her as a teacher at all, good luck if you take her classes!
Prof. Boas is an outstanding Eng. teacher; she is strict, but also a good & passionate teacher. She does not take BS on papers or stupid people in class; so if you're bad at Eng., can?t analyze a book, won't ask for help, and still expect to get an A for effort, be forewarned, you won't get one. Bite the bullet and take a lower level of English.
awful professor. unnecessarily tough grader. needs to get down from her ivory tower. eng 112 is a pre-req at a community college not a graduate level class on shakespeare. definitely has a my way or nothing approach. needs to lighten up and realize not everyone is an english major. do not take her class.
Boas is such a frigid teacher! I really enjoyed and did very well in English prior to this class, but she really revoked all of my self-confidence. She's very harsh with her grading policies. She looks down on her students and I feel it's very disrespectful. I do not recommend this class unless you enjoy the Type-A condescending teaching style.
this is just my guess, but am betting that i am correct when i say that she is the worst teacher ever to teach a college class. i feel sorry for any one who takes her class.
The worst professor ever. Nothing you do will be good enough and she will make your life hell.Insane amount of work and you won't get an A even if you deserve it. Want to drop your GPA - take her class.
I have no clue why everyone thinks she was such a bad teacher. I HATE English, and almost didn't take a 121 class. She made is easy, she took a class that does both lit. and Eng. at the same time, and made it do-able for someone who hates both. I earned a B+ from her class, I felt as if I learned something from her. She is a good teacher.
Stay away from her unless you want to ruin your semester. This class is supposed to be Introduction to Eng. and Lit. not a Shakespeare masters class. Very unreasonable with her grading, will punish you for not thinking like her or not turning in homework like she expects you to, even if she didn't mention it.
Her class is tough but if you follow her strict directions you will do well. She is willing to help if you fall behind. She really does know how to teach a lit class.
My husband took Eng 121 and said it was easier than my 112 class. Lots of homework, overwhelming at first, a lot of reading (2 books at a time plus homework in LBH Grammar book. She always explained things, and was very encouraging, but a hard grader. I love writing but she didn't like my writing style. Need to think like her for a good grade.
I hated English, I hated Literature, so I should have hated her class. She was an excellent teacher, graded pretty hard, but you learn a lot, and you feel good when your graded paper gets a "B", b/c you know you earned that "B". If I had to take English or Literature again, it would be with her.
Very strict and hard teacher. When you get even a C you know you earned that C. You can't really BS in her class. It's a little overwhelming, but you learn a lot.
Horrible teacher. She didn't answer questions that I asked and basically gave me two options when it came to my paper. She never gave me positive feedback on my assignments and had way to much for an online class. I always did good in english until her class, wish I would've had someone a lot better as a professor.
I really enjoyed this class. Prof Boas treats and expects everyone to act like adults. This is a college class, not high school. If you follow her directions you will be fine.
Prof. Boas is an incredible instructor. While her approach to grading may appear to be almost hostile, she really cares about her students. My class began with 25 students and ended with 7. Be prepared for plenty of reading and writing. If you have questions about a grade, be sure to see her in office hours. Highly recommend for the strongwilled.
She already hates you. I did more work for her than all my other classes combined and still got a C. Psychotic grader. Class went from 30 to 4 of us taking the final. Hmm wonder why.
Well, it's a big work load, and quite honestly during the first few classes she's going to scare you. But once the weak are weeded out and drop her class, she's actually a really kind professor and very helpful. Although it might seem like you're doing bad on your papers, you end up doing alot better in the class than you though. I recommend her
Why take a class where you are belittled and not encouraged to learn. I know why the college keeps prof like her, all students pay then fail retake and repay. what a money making scam. it is her way or the highway
This professor made class miserable for me, personally. She even got on me about spelling my name differently then how it is on her attendance paper. She's generally nasty and is a severe grader. She belittles and takes little to no interest in the welfare of her students.
6 week summer class online: not easy since material has to be worked through in such a short time & on your own accord! need to keep up with assignments & work on different ones at the same time not to fall behind. working full time & not being a native speaker added to the difficulty but i finished with a solid A. just need to work for your grade!
HORRIBLE professor. Strict, and way to much work for the online class. It's an online class because people have to work around their schedule, yet any assignment hast to be turned in at Noon, even if you can't get to a computer. She won't help with papers and the research paper with her is very difficult, especially with no teacher help. DO NOT TAK
Was a tough class, lots of reading & homework. But the professor was helpful at all times. My hardest class by far, but the class i enjoyed the most. Not for the weak or faint hearted, but would recommend to those that like a challenge.
btw read your books b4 you r sat in the class, not like 1/2 the lunatics that were in my class :) and don't be afraid to talk in class, conversation makes the world go round lol
I had Ms. Boas for a professor a few semesters back, and I have to say that as any student aspiring to better themselves, then the challenge offered by the "pint-sized" lady is amazing. A definite positive for this school and more educators would be in remiss to not model themselves in her image.
DO NOT TAKE HER IF U VALUE YOUR GPA!An absolute nightmare! Used her examples to the T and she criticized. Used her list of topics & she questioned. Impossible. I used to LOVE English. Prev even had A in Eng112 but had to w/draw. Had friends who said she screamed @ students in class. I had her online. But she was even condescending then! STAY AWAY!!
I must agree with previous comment. Do not take her if you valus your gpa. I had her class and she is a hard grader. Taking her class brought my gpa down. I am going to retake the class but definitely not with her!
Really interesting class. Prof. Boas is known to be omniscient. As long as you read your handbook and know MLA format down to perfection, you should do alright in the class. This class requires dedication and by the end of the semester you will be glad you finished knowing you did the best you could. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS EXPECTING AN EASY A.
She knows her stuff. Take this class if you actually want to learn. DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU WANT AN EASY A. She is a great professor but very stern. I dropped out at the very end of the class because for your final paper she had us write a 15 page essay (which I didnt finish in time, which is why I dropped the class) HARD
Unyielding, unhelpful and beyond strict. Devalues opinions, consistently tough grader. Was excited about this class because I love Shakespeare but now regret enrolling. Can't wait til it is over, have considered taking pass/fail! Will never take another class taught by her. Also, took as ONLINE yet exams were required on campus!
I'd rather have the opportunity to learn from Professors like Boas and have a lower GPA than coast through earning inflated A's. She taught not only ENG121 but also to think outside the box. Once the students who wanted to put no effort in dropped we were able to focus and get through it. Also, the Little Brown Handbook is neither little nor brown!
terrible... dont ever take her.... she thinks shes better than everyone, talks down to you and is just fustrating to deal with. avoid her at all costs
Will make you feel like an idiot if you post any discussions that differ from her own interpretation of the course material. Grades very harshly and her testing methods are extremely unrealistic. Would not recommend this professor to anyone.
One of the worst professors at AACC. If you have her for English I highly recommend that you drop the class and get another professor. She is extremely biased in her grading and if you don't agree with her opinions your grade will suffer. Very rude and standoffish
I actually liked Prof. Boas fairly well. You must not be shy/timid, or it will be a difficult class. Prof. Boas will not be the first one to break the ice. However, she's very smart and helpful...when you try, she helps. If you don't try, she won't help. I recommend her class.
Very hard and determined teacher. I got an A in this class but had to work very hard at it. she does not give out free grades. If you stay on track with your assingents you are fine. She is abrupt and condesending at times. All in all she will teach something new about English and expect you to push yourself.
If you want to be coddled then this is not the class for you. However, if you want a challenging course with a wonderful professor who will push you to go outside of your comfort zone then TAKE HER. She does not give handouts, so you have to work very hard, but it is worth it.
I took this as an 8-week class. It was very hard to keep up. I would have liked more personal feedbacks from the homework and forum posts rather than just getting a grade or something that she just pasted into everyone's homework.
She is VERY wordy yet unclear at the same time. She doesn't follow her own grading guidelines, which you have to know and pass a quiz on before gaining access to any material. Tough grader, puts herself far above the students, talks down to students in public Discussion Forums. Overload in materials if you are taking ANY OTHER classes.
The work isn't easy but it is college after all. I learned so much that will help with all of the other classes I'll ever take. I found a new interest for Shakespeare. You will probably not get an A but it is possible to achieve a B. After this class, I look forward to the rest of college because it is hard to believe that anything could be more work. The final is 12 questions, she brings donuts. A really good person after toughing out the class.
She is one of the worst professors I have ever had. Her work load is unbelievable, if you have other classes i wouldn't advise you to take her class. She's very strict in how she wants papers done, yet does not care if you understand her standards. if you fail anything she will not let you make anything up. She comments on papers like we're idiots
Avoid Professor Boas!
She's such a tough professor literally more than half of my class withdraw after finding out. If you tough it out towards the end she will pass you only if your engage and she likes you
Just don't take her class. I took her class online and it was dreadful. I like getting a lot of feed back on papers including constructional feedback. But her feedback made me feel like I belonged in middle school. She was very condescending and seemed arrogant. She does NOT care what your final grade is.. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
She does not clarify anything. She does not give second chances and is just an overall bad teacher. I wold not recommend taking her unless you want to fail. Her whole class assignments are confusing and scattered and if you are an A student who messes up on one thing she does not care. Do not take her at all. Would not recommend her at all.
The class wasn't easy but that's how it should be nothing is ever easy. Besides that you will like her class great teacher
She is by far one of the worst teachers I have ever had at AACC! It took her an entire month to grade two of my assignments and I still had to go back and correct her on my grades. She talks down to you and makes you feel stupid. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE YOUR OWN OPINION! If you don't agree with her then you're wrong. Period. Terrible feedback!!
She is a great teacher. Do not take her class for an easy A, you have to work for every ounce of the grade you get. She expects a lot from her students. She is willing to help. If you are confused, ask her! She is very helpful once you ask, some of the assignments are a little vague, but she will help explain them if you ask.
Professor Boas is a tough grader, and your grade will definitely not be handed to you. But if you complete the course work by the given due date you should be fine. She's very helpful all you have to do is ask, and she's more then willing to elaborate if you don't understand her feedback.
Just finished her class, she is the absolute worst! If you have started this class withdraw now! If you ask for help she refers back to papers you've most likely already read over. When she comments on papers she makes you feel like an idiot, everyone seems to be beneath her in her world. If you have separate opinions from her you will not pass!
Takeaways: (1). She's not a boring writer. Her online lectures can be long, but also have useful info. (2). She does give good feedback, including examples of what you could've done. (3). There's no extra credit. She definitely penalizes you for stuff like late papers and simple mistakes too. If you're GPA is in deep jeopardy, don't take her class.
I've had plenty teachers that don't get upset if you ask them about something you missed in class, but she gave me a smart ass reply and basically called me out in class because i was supposed to ask my peers. If you're the professor you should help students and not have them depend on classmates who probably don't know either.
She is so quick to tell you the negativity of your assignment when you have done something wrong versus encouraging you, she belittles you and assumes that you are a genius she comes off very rude and stern 3weeks in the class and my grade is a D. Trying to decide if I want to drop the class
Her course is extremely well organized. Each task is built on the previous one to lead her students to make progress in their writing skills. She sets clear and fair standards. Her feedback is consistent. She repeatedly reminds students of her office hours. If you take this class seriously, it will help with any future assignments in other classes.
she is a funny and nice professor, although her work load is a lot. do not take her class if you are not interested in the Arthurian legends or you hate reading and essays. her course is well organized but be prepared because you will most likely not receive an A. she even said herself in the beginning of the semester that an A is hard to get.
Professor Boas was always very clear about what she wanted. Make absolutely sure that you pay close attention to the syllabus and the details. You absolutely have to put in the work in order to get a good grade. Professor Boas is friendly and easy to work with.
I'm glad a came to this website! the thing is something told me to come rate her the second day of class and I just found out some real interesting facts about her. Professor Boas criticizes to the max!! she do not know how to talk to people and barely wants to help. she even give zeros for trying! Lol tell me what you think of that. RUN!!!!!!!
If you have her, I hope you are a fantastic student or your grade is finished.
She is an incredibly tough grader--grades like you are taking a graduate class. Expect to participate in discussions frequently, and be well researched. You need to use the writing center multiple times for each paper. She helps you if you get sidetracked or have questions, but she does not give A's. This does not feel like a 100 level class.
Waaaay too tough for a 100-level (Freshman) class. Absurd grading of papers. If you just need the credit, use a different teacher.
Critical without being constructive, almost to the level of being cruel. Exact and demanding on the structure and content of papers. (The instructions for a 3-page paper were 4 pages long!) For Freshman English, far too demanding. Drop if you still can. You've been warned.
Worst professor I have had. Her grading is unreasonable, she does not care about the students, and doesn't care about teaching. Her comments are extremely critical, almost cruel. When asking how to improve, she provided no feedback. The writing center is pointless as she still gives low grades for "false claims" that is clearly stated in the text.
Probably a sadist. The first day of the class she brags about how she has gotten many e-mails and letters from unsatisified students, and that your chances of getting an "A" are very small. She must thinks she teaches at a graduate school. Delusional. I dropped out early. Found out later my class got down to four students!
Her grading scale sets everyone up to do poorly. The highest you could earn in this class was a 96% based on her design! I DID THE MATH! There's a difference between being a tough grader and making it your mission to knock intelligent students down a peg in a 100 level course. Rude and condescending. Take only if you'd like to tank your GPA.
Professor Boas is not an easy A, but the things you will learn in her class will make every other english class you take seem like a breeze. I took her for Eng 121 last fall 2016 and by the end of the class I had learned so much. There is a lot of reading. It is a tough course. Don't take if you want an easy A, take her if you want you to learn
Harsh does not define this teacher. She is more unreasonable and sets her students up for failure. In her mind, students must write the exact same essay as what she has in mind in order to pass the class.
For an entry level college course of a freshman this is certainly not! She expects everything to done to a standard of her own self image and if it is not exactly the way she has it pictured in her mind it is certainly a failing grade. No leniency at all or respect for her students, comes off as cruel instructor. Tough overall, doesn't care for you
She is an unpleasant woman and that's being polite. I felt like I was taking a graduate level English Class. I am an A student and I didn't learn anything useful in this class, Run! If you care about your GPA DO NOT take this class with her. A LOT of writing and negative unconstructive criticism.
Maybe it's because I was actually interested in the subject matter (Shakespeare), but I actually liked Professor Boas. Her lectures were thorough and interesting. Though there is a good amount of work (in this class it was mostly just papers and reading), and she isn't too forgiving on grades, though showing interest and participating helps.
Professor Boas was wonderful. Shes understanding of any health issues that may have you miss her class, and shes always willing to give help and advice on all papers. Shes also hilarious. Would definitely recommend her.
She is tough but so worth it. I have grown more from this class than anything ever. Her choice of books are inspirational and really focus on helping everyone learn. She is available to help, all you have to do is ask. She is amazing.
Master's level class in Community College The good: -Amazing, engaging lectures. Animated The bad: -How essays were assigned, "line up to sign up", if you are last in line, you may have your essay due tmrw. -The final was IDing excerpts from each text and reciting what was said in class. -Arbitrary grading methods were never clear
Lots of reading, does not explain well, hard to communicate with and very tough grader
Professor Boas is great. Although there is a lot of work, as long as you read it will be okay. In all of the modules, professor Boas takes the time to type out full lectures for our use and I find that very helpful and thoughtful of her.
Professor Boas is amazing. If you are looking for an easy A, this is not the class for you. It is work and reading-intensive, but I am so happy I took her Women in Literature class. I learned so much and truly feel like I am coming out of this class a better student than I entered. I would definitely take another of Prof Boas' classes if I could.
She is honestly great and very charismatic. You will have to work for your grade for sure. You will learn A LOT! If you ask for help she is more than willing to help you through any problems. The work is not that difficult if you PAY ATTENTION and work AHEAD of time! Don't be lazy and simple, this is college!
If you're taking her class for the first time as a freshman, I would not recommend. I also had a bad experience with her. Provided good feedback but was a very tough grader. If English and reading isn't your forte, find a teacher that isn't as hard on you. It is not an easy A or B.
Due to her grading policy, I was able to not stress about being correct but doing my best and expecting effective and helpful feedback. If you are someone with poor time management and tends to turn things in late DO NOT TAKE HER COURSE. If you can keep up with due dates but struggle with english, i fully recommend. She will better your learning.
Dunno where a lot of these comments are coming from. Feedback can be a little harsh, but constructive and useful. Very charismatic, very helpful. As long as you make the effort, you will succeed. She makes time for students and is very empathetic. A little biased towards how she thinks an essay should be but not to the extent people are saying.
You get out of the class what you put into it. Few classes I've taken have offered such great opportunities for growth, regardless of the level you are on. I learned more in this class than I have in any other, but it is up to you how well you will perform and learn based on work ethic and communication with the professor.
I absolutely despise this professor, if there's anyone else to take, take them please.
She taught me a lot. But her grading system requires you to do 3 extra in-depth assignments on top of regular work to get an A. I did not feel like I had enough time and motivation with all of my other stuff going on to do these extra assignments so I ended up with a B. Also, if you miss more than 2 classes your grade automatically drops a letter.
Professor Boas is a tough but fair grader. The workload is heavy, but she provides valuable feedback to improve your writing. I found unstuck AI and the free textbook very helpful for staying on top of the material.
Great teacher with great feedback. Wants the student to succeed. She has a system of grading that is flexible and allows for a majority of students to get Bs.
Professor Boas is a really tough grader, her class is easy to fall behind in, and her policies are confusing. I find myself lost often even with the experience I have.
please do not take if you turn things in late... HORRIBLE HAS NO REMORSE OR SYMPATHY FOR STUDENTS
Great policy to assure that most students get at least a B in the class. Confusing due dates (assignments aren't due at 11:59, but rather the morning of class).
She accused me of using AI when I did not. I had to retake an essay that took 3 hours in the testing center just to still get a bad grade and prove that I was not using AI. Grading is very strict, and turning anything in late will affect your grade insanely.
She can be very “interesting” and I'm trying to be nice but the fact she grades as “Complete” and “incomplete” will damage your grades by a lot especially if you don't participate in seminar. You could fail her class if you dont participate in seminar (Up to 3 if when you'll drop hard) really didn't like the pressure so withdrawn
Boas gives a lot of readings, and chapters for homework assignments, but the seminars are worth it. She gives good feedback on your essays.
