Excellent
Very concerned about students learning and achieving.
Overall good teacher. Lectures were slightly boring but she does teach you what you need to know. Extremely devoted to her students if they want to learn and will go out of her way to help you. Marks fairly on tests. Very, very picky about attendance--don't bother coming to class if you are late. Still, recommended.
She was a very good teacher, and if you paid attention then you will do well in her class. She is always willing to answer your questions, and she may seem kind of mean but she just wants you to come to class (ON TIME)
Very nice and willing to help students out. She cares about how her students do, but doesn't baby. If you pay attention, and study you will be fine!
Unquestionably The BEST prof i have ever had. Known as mean but really you just had to get to know her...Stay on her good side
by far the worst prof i've ever had. BORING and by far should be retired by now
In all my years at Mount Royal, hands down the WORST teacher I have ever had. I am normally an A student, and this class no matter how much work was applied this teacher ignores and does not give any constructive criticism. She little clarity on marking, and spends most of her time on what you don't need to know.
WORST PROF AT MRU! Marge lets her ego get in the way of her teaching. She is bias based on who she likes. She is RUDE and unprofessional. Your marks will not reflect your hard work. Get out while you can.
Margaret is a decent instructor but I still would not recommend her to other students. Her ego does get in the way of her teaching and she frequently goes off topic. It was also very unfair that she locked you out of her class even if you were a few minutes late. If you do end up in her class, make sure to get on her good side.
Margaret is a very helpful teacher is you come in and ask her lots of questions. If you are late for Margarets class by 1 minute, she won't let you in depending on her mood, which is unfair. Very hard marker, and I found no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get over a B. Expectations are not clearly outlined.
This is a class that is a lot of work. Margaret is very clear about her expectations and has no problem failing you if you do not meet them. But she is a good teacher who tells you what you need to do and is helpful if you have any problems. Make sure you get in a good, reliable group.
She never teaches anything! Goes off topic and makes you regret going to class. She will penalize you if you are not watchful for EVERY SINGLE error you make on the report! We just thought that she needed to relax a bit about the correctness policy, we LOST 20 PERCENT OF OUR MARK BECAUSE OF THIS. I would encourage you not to take the class with her
STAY AWAY!!! Margaret's inconsistent in her grading; she enjoys going on ego trips: she contradicts herself; and she will penalize students for minor grammatical errors to the point that they end up with a C- for their assignments. DON'T TAKE THE COURSE WITH M. BROWN!
Margaret is a fantastic teacher if you take her class seriously and realize that she is there in hopes of seeing others succeed. For this course, it is an incredibly easy A if you constantly seek her advice on every aspect on the document. If you are a committed student who is willing to put in the effort, she is the best prof for this course.
Great prof, if you do your work and try she will help you out and make you pass no problem
Very rude. I did not like her at all!
She is the most stuck up prof at MRU. Its time for her to retire. I did not learn anything in her class. You can basically stay home and go through the slides yourself, that's all she does in class. She is way too hard of a marker. THIS CLASS WILL LOWER YOUR GPA, TRY TAKING THE CLASS ONLINE OR SOME OTHER INSTITUTE. NOT WITH HER. HORRIBLE
In my opinion, she's absolutely the worst teacher i've ever had. Very rude to students. If you disagree with her, you are not passing the class. If you love being a teachers pet, you should do fine. Take this class with another teacher because you will not learn anything with her. It's like walking on egg shells when you're around her
Margaret is extremely helpful if you go ask her questions. Easy marker if she knows you are working hard and want to do well. Her midterm for Services Marketing is really hard- go ask her what she expects from each example question in order to do well. If she knows who you are and knows you care, you will do well in her classes.
She grades completely based on if she likes you or not. If she doesn't like you, this class will lower your GPA tremendously. I'd highly recommend waiting until after she retires she is my least favourite prof ever.
Stay away. She is awful and so inconsistent with grading
If you're a good student you'll do well. This is not a class that allows students to "cheat the system" or find shortcuts to pass. Your grade will likely reflect exactly how much effort you put in. Try, and you'll do well. Margaret is very smart and if you need assistance she'll give you direct answers. She wants you to do well.
She will go out of her way to help you. She knows her stuff.
The worst and most awful teacher. The only reason she's willing to help is if she likes you. Her grades are solely based on her liking towards you. It doesn't matter if you work hard or not, if she doesn't like you, she won't give you a good grade. I had to drop this class or else I would've failed. Be careful if you're going to enrol in her class.
For Business Plan it's expected that you have all the pre req courses. Get a good group together, work hard and ask Margaret whenever you have any ques. She will help and clarify anything, you just have to ask. Great teacher!
Horrible. Just straight horrible. With her this class is depending on the textbook and ur common sense thats it she cannot teach, and her marking is absolutely inconsistent. Do Not Take this class with her. I learned more about MRU as a school than learn managing.
REALLLYYYY HARD! She is an extremely hard marker, VERY strict on late assignments, won't be scared to fail you. Don't take this course with her, it is meant to be easy but she makes it hard. Lectures are boring, you learn nothing. She is always there to help though.
this class should not be a first year and she makes it extremely hard. My friend was 2 mins(literally) late to hand in class her assignment and she took 20% off. She is extremely mean market, she failed a lot of people even if they try hard, she wants its perfect. I guess she is fair but very strict and mean. She made this course very hard.
She is a teachers pet kind of teacher. Go to her office like twice asking her to good through your assignments and she will hook you up. Final is super easy. The only reason she gets a bad rating is because those are the kids who never went to see her during office hours. Easy A
She failed 4 assignments of my groups in a row for no apparent reasons...most of my class failed, please avoid her
She is super helpful as long as you make the time to go to her office and see her. She will help with anything! Ask as many questions as you can and put the time and effort into the project, if you do she will recognize that and help anyway possible and trust me you will need it.
Difficult marker. Difficult work. But if the time is taken to go talk to her and get help she will notice and she can be extremely helpful.
Margaret expects good quality work. Start your assignments early and have her review them prior to submitting. She will tell you everything she wants changed and it will increase you grade significantly. It's a hard course but Margaret is helpful and makes herself available.
Margaret is a great teacher and yes she is tough but she teaches life lessons. She even went out of her way to help me and another student to figure out one of our classes to graduate on time. Make sure you get a good group and do not wait till the last minute. This course was so much work but worth it!
Go to her office hours a lot, ask tons of questions, and follow directions. Awesome teacher.
Nice teacher, helps you out alot whenever you need it, easy marker if you write good things
worst ever!! she has no idea what she is talking about. She should have been fired a long time ago. As well she is extremely inconsistent with marking.
We did an exam mid-term and was not clear if we were given a booklet for a case. She only gave us questions w/o the case!! If you don't want to fail, AVOID, RUN AND KEEP GOING. She is very unclear and unless you want a difficult marker, then DO NOT take this class.
Great prof! The people complaining probably didn't do the work. If you listen to what she says, you'll do just fine. I had a terrible group for projects and because I was open with her about it, she was incredibly helpful. She's a lot of fun in class, and is wonderful to talk to.
Margaret is a tough professor but she is very knowledgeable and helpful. She is a stickler for APA referencing and citation. Make sure you schedule time to meet with her for feedback on her case studies. If you don't know, ask. She was one of the toughest professors I have ever had. The lesson I learned was to persevere and get help when needed.
Avoid this professor! She is the worst. If she does not like you she will not help you very clearly. She makes the course so hard, when its not. You will end up repeating it. She is just horrible. She expects so much out of you for a first year course. Avoid Avoid Avoid! Trust me! This course was a nightmare because of her. Now i need to repeat it!
I honestly dislike this prof. She is not helpful and very unclear. Pretty much avoid or you will do bad. Not a GPA booster at all. She is the worst person i have come across and can be rude and not helpful. When i ask for help she is very unclear and if she is "busy" she will not answer your questions.Well this is your job! You should be helping!
Margaret is a fantastic prof who goes out of her way to help students succeed IF they go out of their way to succeed. Our class average on assignment 1 was an A-, so we got a pizza party! To the first year students complaining that she's "mean" and "a hard marker": welcome to University. You don't get A's just by showing up.
Avoid this instructor at all costs! Margaret was unable to clearly explain any concepts or expectations she had. Before the 1st quiz I went to her 3 times asking for clarification, I was told not to worry about it "the quiz would me easy" I & 60% of the class received an F on the quiz. I did receive an A in the class but it wasn't worth the effort!
Margaret is an unbelievable prof who will schedule extra office hours if her students need it (even on saturdays!) She is very clear with her instructions and is willing to help if you are willing to do the work. She loves instructions, APA, and grammarspelling. Be prepared to work hard but know that your work will pay off if you put in effort.
Avoid this teacher. She will fail you even if you are trying, I myself am experiencing this first hand. The first quiz over 75% of the class failed? Highly unlikely this is the entire classes fault.
The material covered is pretty basic but Margaret is the head of the department so she really knows what shes doing. Lots of group-work but she is really understanding of any issues with that. Hard marker but you will have a good understanding of everything when you're through.
Easy course. But Margaret made it the hardest class ever taken for me. She expects things on assignments she hasn't even discussed in class and doesn't give clear instructions. Very hard marker. But will do whatever it takes to help you. Still tough though. I liked her but wouldn't take her classes because of how complicated she makes them.
If you do not know how to reference APA PERFECTLY (and I mean perfectly) do not take this course with Margaret. She is a strict prof and knows her stuff so you will learn a lot from her. Ensure lots of extra time in your schedule to see her during her office hours as having her read your assignments is the most likely way to do well in the course.
Margaret gives great feedback if you actually commit to going into her office hours & discussing specific questions you have over assignments. The lectures are dry but that is due to the nature of the course. Margaret really wants everyone in her class to succeed, however she can be intimidating because she wants to push you to work hard & do well.
I found the previous reviews and even Margaret herself to be intimidating in the beginning, and I wanted to drop the course on the first day. Thankfully I didn't because she is an excellent prof who knows her material well and gives a clear outline for the quizzes and assignments. Gives great feedback to learn from.
I found the previous reviews and even Margaret herself to be intimidating in the beginning, and I wanted to drop the course on the first day. Thankfully I didn't because she is an excellent prof who knows her material well and gives a clear outline for the quizzes and assignments. She wants everyone to succeed so she gives extensive feedback.
Honestly was a little scared when I had no choice to take her class from reading past reviews, All I can say is, find a GOOD group as it makes all the difference., as group projects are worth A LOT of marks !! Everything is straightforward and no reason why not to get an A.
Please avoid this lady... I have taken her class several times as she was the only prof to take entr with. I have done everything I can in my willpower to study and she still manages and finds a way to be tough on students. Avoid if possible. Take next semester with another prof or get override another full class.
THIS PROF IS TOUGH!!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS... CLASS IS ALSO VERY TOUGH
Margaret is a great teacher. Attend her class, participate in class discussion, read the book you will be fine. She has been doing this for a long time and knows it is her job to make you smarter and to produce educated graduates from MRU. If you want to learn, here is your chance.
If you want to learn, if you want a professor that is funny, knowledgable, and accessible, this is the class to take. She expects you to study, come to class and make an effort. But hey isn't that what it's all about? FIND A GOOD GROUP! As the group assignment is a big part of your grade.
Do Not recommend. Two presentations. And very tough exams.
worst prof in my life. such a terrible person ! avoid at all cost. i never do these things but i just have to warn you all. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER. its already a boring class and she just makes it worse. BEWARE!!!!!
She's an extremely tough marker and has really high expectations of her students. Had I known how tough of a marker she was, I would have taken another prof for this class.
Hardest class I had in my life. The course is not that hard, but she makes it quite impossible. Exams are very hard if you didnt memorize all the text book and very specific in one paragraph on the whole book. Final exam is cumulative, 14 chapters to read and you also have to memorize everything. Impossible class. Be prepared to study a lot
Margaret is a tough grader, but fair, and because she wants the student to learn. Read the text, attend class, study and it'll be fine. Really not that bad!
I would not recommend her at all! I had to do a huge group project that was meant for 4 or 5 with only one other person. To study effectively for the exams, come up with real-life examples of the theories and their contingencies. Be sure to actually read and not skim the pertinent chapters of the textbook as well.
Margaret is the worst prof I have ever had. The course it self isn't actually that hard but taking it with Margaret will make things that are of importance unclear making it way worse than it should be. The worst part though is her marking, not only is she a tough grader but it takes her the longest I have ever seen to mark stuff, & I'm in year 3..
It was very tough course but I managed to pass because I learned the lesson from failure first time.
I took this class because I thought it would be easy. The class itself is easy but Margaret is the toughest most inconsiderate prof I have ever met. For all of the assignments if you follow the rubric to the T she will still fail you. You don't have to go to class because all she does is read off the slides that she gives you word for word.
Deducted 20% off of an assignment a class member handed in 2 minutes late. The toughest most ridiculous marker ever. Not sure if the other bus communication prof is any better. I really wish the school got rid of her. Easy A course made impossible.
First professor I've had any problems with at MRU. Seemed like she was out to get me and a few other students for no reason. Marks very heavy and is beyond strict when it comes to handing in assignments. Make sure to find an amazing group or else you're asking for a 50.
Worst prof I've had at MRU. No enthusiasm just reads off of her powerpoint slides. If you go and ask her for help she looks at you like your crazy. Wouldn't recommend to anyone at all.
Margaret Brown gave me depression and I'll forever have ptsd when I give presentations. Awful marker and awful professor to say the least
She is a horrible prof. She has high expectations and doesn't explain on how she marks. Her power point slides are very dry and her classes her very boring. Best you don't take her.
Margaret is a wonderful lady. She was alway super interesting in class and gave tons of examples! When she is passionate about something she uses her "cookie monster voice" which is intriguing and hilarious. This course was fun to take! You don't need the textbook at all, just read her slides, listen in class, and follow the rubric!
I found Margaret to be wonderful and I never dreaded coming to this class. She went at a perfect pace through the lectures, was kind to students, and always brought candy for tests and quizzes, which were never overly difficult. Only thing is that she was not willing to answer questions over email. Find a good group for the project.
PLEASE UPVOTE THIS SO WE CAN SAVE MORE STUDENT LIVES!!! Hands down probably one of the worst prof that MRU has to offer, you can show up for all of her classes, participate and she will still not show you sympathy. You are better off taking the class with any other prof if you wish to have a good grade, otherwise its only a minimal passing grade.
Don't not take her class unless writing is second nature to you. PowerPoint lectures and are copy paste from textbook and overall very dry. Feedback on assignments and tests are awful and does not have sympathy for those seeking to make up their marks. She will under no circumstance give you an opportunity to redo an assignment.
She is a strict professor. However, she is honest and cares about her students. She is willing to support you in understanding concepts and themes if you show interest in her lecture. She is an excellent teacher because she takes the time to explain your doubts.
She is unprofessional when giving feedback. She has yelled at other people in front of the whole class when they ask her questions. I know she just yells in general but when pointing out critical mistakes I think it could be embarrassing. She never answers any emails. The class was very easy overall, but try to find a different professor.
I had absolutely no issues with Margaret. While she was very strict about projects her guidelines were very clear. She always made sure to allow time in class for students to ask questions. My group for the group project was dysfunctional but Margaret ensured my grade didn't suffer because of it. All tests were based off textbook and slides
Margaret is a nice lady but is very critical in her grading. Complete assignments and tests exactly how she shows you in class, even if the textbook says otherwise. She does not provide any feedback on in class assignments unless you go visit her office hours, which I recommend since the tests are graded versions of the in class assignments.
Margaret gives you a taste of real life. When you mess up, you don't get a sucker and an option to make up the marks somewhere else except for just work harder on the next assignment and test. She tells it like it is and gives great respect to the students that earn her respect.
