she's alright...tests are easy if you take good notes
She is very knowlegable; she assigned a great project where we did some primary source research.
hard to follow
good teacher. take notes. lectures whole time
Nice but lots of reading and papers. Speaks fast sometimes hard to tae notes you can understand later. Tests easy and just write what you know on an essay.
Very helpful, just show that you care about the class. Take the notes, re-type them to study and you will do fine! Shes also HOT.
Great class, great teacher.
Nice teacher. Lectures whole class period, moves fast at points. A few papers during the semester. Involves reading books outside of class. Overall shes a good teacher.
you dont have to take notes. Class lectures follow reading in book. Study guide for all tests and the tests are easy if you study. multi-choice and short answer w/ long essay.
lectures entire class period....take tons of notes. test are quite easy if you take good notes and study them.
Very articulate and interesting, however, talks fast.
great teacher, she is very smart and very clear. she is one of the few teachers that know what they are talking about. tests arent to bad but be prepared to take some notes.
Very nice, helpful. Tests are straight forward if you study. Papers are tough but VERY intersting. Lectures are fast
Good teacher. Very nice and willing to do what she can to help. I honestly don't think I would've passed if she hadn't been so helpful. She's cute too, which helps to keep your interest.
very good teacher. you will have to write some papers, but she grades them very fairly. tests aren't too bad if you go to class and study. really nice, friendly person.
very nice lady, knows her stuff about US History. She lectures in an outline format, so it's really easy to take notes. She goes a little crazy with the overhead images, but it's not too bad. As long as you study the notes, you'll do well on tests!
Gives lots of notes, but she knows what she is talking about. Tests are straightforward and come right from notes. I really enjoyed her class. Will do excellent if you just go to class
One of the nicest people I have ever met. She LOVES to help when you have questions. Tests are fair and straight forward. If you take good notes and study you're garuanteed an A.
Mrs. Genvert is by far one of the nicest, sweetest, and most helpful prof. at SU. TAKE HER, TAKE HER, TAKE HER! Class is fun. 2 papers that require research at NABB center but she helps a lot with them. 3 tests that aren't bad. One of my favorites! Take her for sure!
really really sweet and nice lady. but the class is sooo boring. I used to love history i dont know why this class was so boring. she is really smart though just hard to follow at times. very nice though. only 2 papers on outside reading and 4 tests. tests are pretty hard
Occasionally vague with the notes and tends to skip around a lot, but if you just go to class you can pick up on everything. Just read the assigned pages every night and you're guaranteed an A. Nice, cool, and helpful. She's an awesome teacher, and I highly recommend her.
She has got to be one of the nicest people I have ever met. She'll jump at any chance to help you. A couple papers and tests, but she explains everything if you study an A is almost guaranteed.
Sooo hot want to touch the hiney
very nice...grades papers hard though and she drinks extremely too much coffee
She's SOOOO nice. She makes history interesting and does not make you want to fall asleep in class. I want to take her again. Three papers and four non cumulative exams that you definitly need to study for.
Very nice and helpful teacher. Clearly and fairly outlines the class(3 papers/4 tests). Definitely Recommend!
her tests are all notebased...no reading necessary... test are in good format... 4 tests.. 2 essays
Best history teacher I've ever had. Made me fall in love the subject. No reading necessary. All note based tests. Multiple choice, short answer, matching, essay. Good format for everyone. Very energetic and not boring for a history teacher.
very nice but talks far too much about things that are not related to what you need to know. tests are straight forward but she grades essays and papers very hard like she wants to be an english teacher. go to class and you will do fine
She is the BEST history teacher ive EVER had.
I loved this teacher! Before this class, I had no interest in history, but she really loves what she does and gets you interested in the topics. As long as you show up to class and take good notes, you'll do fine on the tests. You only need the text book to look at maps because she doesn't require reading.
No idea what everyone on here is talking about. Yes, she is nice. But not a good teacher at all. She barely writes anything so you have to listen very well or else you'll miss the info. I'm an A student but got a C in this class. Overall, I don't recommend.
Ok, Mrs G is a nice woman but not so much when it comes to teaching. Yes, you can tell she loves history but that does not help those who do not. If you take have your ears open, and believe me, you have to study.
Wonderful teacher, very enthusiastic about subject, no textbook use at all, tests can be tricky but they follow the study guides almost exactly, DEFINATELY RECOMMEND
She is a great lecturer. Doesn't even use the book at all. She uses the board during her lectures. Keeps it interesting. Tests are Multiple Choice with map and Lectures not that hard. Take this teacher she is the best 102 teacher. Trust me.
She was very nice and willing to help. Never used the book once. Four test, no classwork or homework. Alot of notes but the test come directly from them. Study notes and attend class and you will do well!
very very nice, very helpful and clear. make sure you go to all classes and take good notes. only 4 tests, notes based. worked hard and got an A but also learned a lot. genvert is very willing to help and makes her lectures interesting. it was the first history class ive ever enjoyed!
Nice and likes her subject. Gives a lot of extra info you don't need in class and for the study guides. Definitely study! Her essays aren't bad and if you listened to anything she said in class.
Professor Genvert is not a very good professor. If you have questions, the majority of the time she'll ignore you unless you're persistent in having your question answered. Her lecturing is also very fast-paced and has quite a bit of material that is pointless for the exams. Maybe she picks favorites, but she definitely was not willing to help
I really hated this class. She's nice but doesn't ever write any notes and I could not follow anything she said. So god awfully boring
She modeled her notes and tests like I was used to in high school so it wasn't difficult to follow along. She is very nice and tries to get people thinking about the whole picture rather than rattling off dates for no reason. I would recommend her to anyone. Studying wasn't difficult because her tests are easy.
She is scary nice. She is too nice that i feel like its fake sometimes. Tests are from notes. This means coming to class everyday and getting a hand workout. She tends to speed up around the times of a test. She does a "finger slip" when she wants to go through her slides fast. You'll see what I mean. Great teacher. Dont buy the book.
I always hated history until I had her. Sadly its my last required history; I would take her again if I had a course requirement she taught. All you do is take notes, you dont have to go to class but you should if you dont like to study, so you can atleast here it. (attendance is taken by writing it on the list). She even outlines everything.
i really enjoyed her as a teacher. be prepared to write notes all class, she uses power points and her tests are taken from her notes. she grades her papers easily and even though its a lot of material as long as you study you should do fine on her tests
she can't teach, she just throws information at her students. terrible professor! don't take her!
She is a very nice lady, and really tries to help her students, but her classes are very hard. You take notes all class period from powerpoints, and you test based on the notes you take. Take her if you are really dedicated & motivated to study. If you don't want to have to study a lot, this class is not for you
AWESOME! I loved her class! :) great teacher! im glad history is my minor so I can take her again!
Genvert was an excellent teacher.! Best professor I ever had for history. Spends class time all day on her powerpoints so all you do is take notes, study them and you will pass the course. Test questions come STRAIGHT from all the notes. EXCELLENT!
Genvert is pretty cool overall. You basically come class for an hour and 15 and get a hand work out. I averaged about 14 pages of notes of handwriting a day, my handwriting's big though. She is the nicest person ever but OMG her class can be be unbearably boring sometimes. Nicest woman ever, but yes, she can be very boring.
I wouldn't recommend taking her. She is a horrible teacher, her teaching style is unprofessional. She clicks through the powerpoints quickly and does not care if the students are caught up on the material. She should not be teaching at SU. Do not take her.
The book was much more useful than the teacher. The class material was alright, i wish I took it with a different professor though. I agree, don't take Genvert, she doesn't care if the students are behind during lecture
Let me start by saying: SLOW Down! she move way too quickly through the material to stay on track. I had to teach myself everything in her class. If it wasn't for the attendance policy, I would have never gone to class. She had her favorites in class too, luckly I managed my way to that, but I feel bad for the others who tried hard in her class.
text is not necessar for the material, better off passing the class using wikipedia. her lecture is horrible, she teaches like she is on speed and you will get lost easily. the favoritism is an obvisous. and the tests are not project from what you learn from class and the reading. SU needs a new book and new teacher for this class!
Interesting class, the book was ok. Her teaching style is different, she moves quickly on her powerpoints, but it is nice to access the terms on her webpage that she leaves available. I had better professors than her
Rule 1: take down all the notes because the test questions come STRAIGHT from them. Rule 2: Put effort in the simple papers she assigns & you will do fine.
The lectures were boring, by the assignments were actually pretty interesting if you took them seriously. I hated writing papers prior to this class, and there were 5 3-5 page writing assignments, but I didn't really mind it overall. Bring a laptop to take notes, because your hand will fall off if you try to write it out. 5-8 pgs of notes per class
Not what a teacher should be, goes through the powerpoints and that is it. So you better like powerpoints, and she doesn't slow down. It is rough.
Really good teacher. She reads off the powerpoints and writes a couple notes on the board easy to follow along. You get 4 writing assignments, and 3 tests (pretty easy to pass if you do the optional study guide) and the final that isn't cumulative. Just do the work and you'll pass. She even bring your lowest test grade up to the next lowest.
I hope you like power point if you take her class. This is literally all she does. And don't expect her to slow down at all, she just keeps moving through even when we don't understand the context. Tests are very hard and cover way to much content for one test. Overall I would never take her again as a professor.
Pretty typical as a professor. If you go see her or send her an email asking questions she'll offer help. She's pretty understanding about deadlines and real life too. Let a kid take the final on another day because he didn't realize what day it was, but don't expect that to happen often. Overall not bad, not really remarkable, but not bad.
Good teacher. Offers easy extra credit on the tests, and very helpful. Be prepared to take LOTS of notes. There are four papers and four tests. The tests are fair and come straight from the lectures, nothing surprising. There's only a few pages in each book that you actually need, try to rent them or share with somebody else.
Super easy A. Make sure you go to class though. All of her lectures are very clear and by powerpoint, however she does not publish them so you must go to take notes. She grades papers pretty tough, but if you read the book and follow the directions you will be fine. She provides study guides for all tests, and the final is NOT cumulative! Recommend
She will go through PowerPoints fast, so you should try and take notes quickly. She goes over A LOT in one class, so you really should make sure you don't miss class. You will have about 4 papers to do, but they aren't very hard. Answer the questions she asks, and you'll be fine.
She knows her stuff but is not always the most interesting. As long as you take notes and know the study guide you should be all set for exams. The vocab is extensive, covering the smallest of words, but is all memorization. She is a nice woman, grades papers easily and is always willing to assist students in need.
She was a solid teacher. The grading is clear, two 2-3 page papers, two 4-6 page papers, and four quizzes. that's it. The final is one of the quizzes and is only on the last section of notes, not cumulative. Only downside is each class you'll do about 6 pages of notes, but the quizzes are based EXACTLY off the notes. The papers have cool topics!
Whole entire class is copying down her powerpoint lectures, which the test come directly from. Test are somewhat intense, usually 50 multiple choice, 4 short answer and 1 essay, if you don't skip a class and study HARD you will be okay. Offers extra credit in form of discussion board for every test, make use of it. ATTENDANCE!
Mrs. Genvert is the nicest person! There are 3 papers and one quiz (you don't use other sources besides the text she provides so there are no citations). She's always available to help, and the exams are not bad... As long as you are specific for the five IDs/essay you'll be fine! Also, you never use the book. Only for 5 point of extra credit.
Very good Professor, one of my favorites. Helps you understand material, very nice and caring. Would definitely recommend her as a History teacher. Final is not cumulative. 4 papers but they are very easy.
Her class was demanding. Like, she wont make you suffer, but its a lot. You learn a lot though. She is very organized but her grading is hard. Getting an A in her class is like getting into Harvard; its not impossible, but its demanding. A B is easy in her class, but an A is nearly impossible unless you get practically a 90 on each exam
I am not good at history at all. Had her first semester of my freshman year and it was tough at first but all you need to do is make flashcards for the terms located on the terms list. Does extra credit and has a lot of papers correlating with the NABB center. Go to class because that is what is going to be on the exam.
Dr. Genvert is a great professor. She isnt a tough grader and she tries to help as much as she can. She also offers extra credit on the tests.
Every day in class you will take about 5 pages of notes that most likely won't matter in the end. Gives you a terms list to help you study but only uses some of the words and puts random terms on the test you could've sworn you never learned. Every test there is a discussion question that you can answer for extra credit which is very helpful.
She's a pretty good professor. Definitely lecture heavy and exams have a lot of material on them. She grades pretty easily and seems to understand we have a lot going on. Definitely a nice lady but lectures can be very boring.
Lectures the whole entire class and doesn't post the notes online. Her tests are on stuff that wasn't discussed in class and are long. She makes you take a whole test and write an essay. She does have extra credit but its only a couple of points and she only tells you once about it. Wouldn't take her again
Every class you will take 6 pages of notes. There are a bunch of terms on the terms list for the exams, but then there will be terms on the exam that you swear you've never seen. There's bonus points for each exam, which I recommend doing. The exams were very Hardin my opinion and I studied very thoroughly. 4 papers throughout the semester as well.
Her class definitely is not an easy one. You really have to make sure you get all the notes down during her lectures, and study them a week ahead of time. Don't go by the terms list, just study all of the notes the best you can and you will score well. She is also very understanding if something comes up, very approachable, and doesn't grade hard.
This class is made to be 100 times harder than it should be. I have a 3.6 GPA and am getting a C in this class. I tried very hard but the tests are impossible. She gives terms lists for the tests but they do not help at all and are always over 100 terms long but very few are actually on the test.
Mrs. Genvert's class was hard, but do-able. The assignments she gives are very hard and time consuming. She definitely makes you work for a good grade, but you can do it if you pay attention and work hard. I wouldn't call this an easy A. The exams are difficult and require a lot of writing. With this said, I got and A so it wasn't too bad.
