I got easy A's on every lab writeup. The lab guide tells you specifically what to write. Easy A if you just pay attention to the manual. Only time I got a harsh grade was when I didn't bother to follow the outline in the manual and forgot to answer half the questions.

Go in and talk with her! She is very helpful and will sometimes give points back if she feels the grader made an error. Expect the labs to take 3-6 hours to do. Read the lab info before each lab, and make sure your lab is 100% complete and precise before turning it in, and you will do great.

Margie is great. I'd say the most helpful prof I've ever had in my life. I went to her for help in a chem class that she wasn't even teaching and she helped me right away. A lot of people like Margie, but personally I didn't. She got back to me quickly as far as questions I had, but seemed really impatient with me about it. I went in to talk to her about my midterm on which too many points were accidentaly taken away from me. She gave me those points back. My own experiences with her were alright but I think it is sad that students don't want her help on tests because she docks more points if she sees errors: that's screwed up. There are no actual lectures in the entire 23x series, and Margie doesn't actually teach you. The lecture videos that she makes, and you have to watch are obviously old and you are pretty much learning everything on your own time, yet you still have to go to class for participation points. The class is formatted poorly and she just isn't the best.

SHE IS THE WORST!! This chemistry class is based on watching videos, which was fine last term when I had Siler because she actually taught. All Margie does is give worksheets, sit at her desk all period, and make people present questions. SHE NEVER TEACHES!! If she does help, she will give weird questions and make it seem like you are wrong

I find Haaks the lecture videos online long winded and confusing so I need supplemental videos off of Youtube that summarize concepts concisely. However the class is structured to benefit students so no matter how much you hate presenting the problem sets during class I suggest you still go to get help from the TAs and get participation points.

The General chemistry sequence is terrible. There are no lectures, just videos from 2014 you watch. The lecture time is allotted for group worksheets which are either impossible or too easy. The worst part of this course is the tests. The tests are IQ tests, relying more on your logical abilities than actual content. Get ready to study a lot.

The chem department has really been praising their hybrid model of learning which is better than sitting through a boring lecture, but all of their "effort" was put into creating old videos that only cover the basics. I do enjoy being able to chat with groupmates and do problems together, but only some people learn best like this.

I took Haak for CH 233 in the spring term after two terms of Drolet. While the washout class itself has many difficult spots, tough concepts, and extremely tedious homework. Haak was always helpful with good examples, explanations, and feedback both in the classroom and often in the tutor hall too.

She doesn't teach. The chemistry program is set up for failure. In class attendance is required. Hybrid wastes students time+effort. The lecture itself is a joke, it is group work on reused worksheets that should be supplemental practice to a lecture. The "lectures" are pre-recorded videos that you have to watch before class, recorded years ago.

This professor was more useless than gas in a forest fire. The hybrid lecture model is not helpful as the videos don't teach everything we need for homework and tests. The only help I received was from TAs who are the backbone of the chemistry department since the professors don't do much but half-ass answers than flee.

I'm honestly surprised by the amount of low ratings. It's a hard class, but it has nothing to do with Haak herself. In my opinion, she was always readily available to answer questions clearly and concisely. I found her lectures more helpful than Burands.

The whole CH23X series uses video lectures and in-class problem sets. The honors sections still use videos, but Margie rewrites the tests to be almost all free response, with some short answer "essay" questions. Nonhonors is multiple choice, a few free response. Really the only difference between Margie and every other professor is her tests.

The exams and quizzes were so difficult and we were often supposed to know things we weren't taught. Absolutely no lecture except watching videos before class to take notes. Horrible at answering questions, often would reply with a different question that just made things more confusing rather than just answering the question.

Margaret Haak's course was very unorganized. As an Engineer, I found the lab to be useless, since it seemed like busy work. For a one-credit course, I spent way too much time each week. My classmates always had to email her since there would be assignments due, but they were not published.

If you learn gen chem from high school, you may still do well in this class. But do not take if you know nothing, unless you are good independent learner. Consider how little the information in the video. You have to know gen chem well if you are chem major and need to apply these knowledge in next 3 years.

The course is incredibly demanding and has tough content. The exams are very hard and you need to study. The flipped classroom model means you have to watch lecture videos outside of class and come to class ready to apply the knowledge. Go to office hours and ask for help. Haak is scary at first but reasonable if you go above and beyond.

The fact is that CH233 is a very hard class, no matter who is teaching it. I'm not a huge fan of the flipped classroom format, but you can definitely pass the class if you put in the work. Most learning is done through online lecture videos, online homework, and in-class practice questions. MUST BE STRONG IN ALGEBRA, and MUST put in the hours.
