She's just an amazing proff, has a neat English accent but is still very understandable. Great teacher and is willing to explain anything. I love her personality too!
She flies through EVERYTHING. I like her for the most part, but I've heard many times that she'll turn you away with your questions if she think you should just "know it." Yes this is college, but we pay tuition and expect to learn and at least get some help when we don't understand. The TA doesn't know everything.
She is a really great teacher, and a great person. Don't go into her class expecting it to be easy, but if your willing to put work in an A is attainable and you might just learn something too.
This class is not easy. Mianly because she is a tough grader. She will take off more points if you have the incorrect symbol compared to the right answer. Does not really care about students when you talk to her in person, its like your just a number in her class.
The class was mildly difficult, but she gives you all the resources to get a good grade in her class. It's worth it to go because she notices who comes and who doesn't, and the material is not easy to teach yourself from the book.
teaches in a way that is really easy to understand and clear. She really cares about her students and is more than willing to help. I got an A in the class. Awesome teacher, I totally recommend her!
so helpful. hard grader , but very fair. makes the class interesting . probably my favorite professor so far at kent.
She is a very hard teacher however she has awesome lectures. She's clear about what she is teaching and explains it will. Tests are hard, but they are over the material went over in class. You'll definitely need to study but she posts the powerpoints online!
It is really similar to what I had in high school. It isn't that difficult yet. She covers the material fairly well, and does many examples.
Leslie was great at explaining things in a way you can understand easily, but was very harsh when it came to grading. I came out of the class with the worst grade I've ever gotten even though I studies for hours and I usually get As in all my other classes. It discouraged me a lot about chemistry but I got a B in gen chem II with another professor
I had her for Gen chem I and she was awesome. She is organized and cares that you understand what is going on. I was not great at chemistry prior tothis class. But I did all my homework and used the study guides and got a very high A. I would recommend her more than any teacher I have ever had.
Excellent! Probably the best, most human professor in the science departments. Excellent lecturer, extremely fair test administration. Cares about students who care themselves. If you have a problem with the class, drop out of school and quit whining. McDonalds is accepting applications if you can't handle O chem. Science is hard, deal with it.
Excellent teacher. VERY HARD and picky grader. Her multiple choice questions are 4 points each so she really requires you to know your stuff. The class is NOT easy but she gives lots of examples and helps as much as possible.
great teacher! i HATE chemistry and Dr. Leslie made it much easier than high school ever did. tough class class but she is extremely helpful. posts a lot of practice material, practice quizzes and exams, and solutions to past work. i definitely recommend her!
I know a lot of people like her and think she is a good teacher, but for me I had a hard time following her. She is far from a bad teacher but for the way I learn we didn't click for that intro to chemistry class I took from her. I still like her a lot as a person and would give her another shot as a teacher now that I understand chemistry better.
I love Dr. Leslie =] she's a really great teacher, tests are hard but she prepares you very well. She's ALWAYS available for anyone who needs assistance, even on the weekends. Take her if you can, it will be worth it!
I had her for Gen Chem 1. She is a great teacher and explainer, but the class and material is hard. Her exams are verrryyyyy hard, but she bases them off the previous years exam which she gives you to study off of. DO NOT SKIP HER CLASS OR YOU WILL BE LOST.
Grading is tough, but she is amazing at teaching and you learn so much that it balances out. She is the best professor I have ever had.
Very good teacher who teaches well and explains everything well. She is a very vibrant woman. She requires online homework but also offers past tests and study guides, similar to what is on the tests. She doesn't grade her tests, and they are challenging, but not impossible. Pay attention and study and you should do fine.
She is EXTREMELY hard, but she will be the best Chem Professor you will ever have. Sit up front, ask questions, go to class, sh will love you and enjoy helping.
Very very hard. Harsh grading. Even if you work hard it may not help. The class averages on tests show this. She doesn't care that the class average is a D. Rushes through material. Definitely have to spend a lot of time outside of class preparing to even survive. Not necessarily worth the struggle.
she is extremely rude and not approachable. she will degrade you in front of everyone and make you feel stupid for asking a question. she is a good teacher and knows what she is talking about but her exams are very hard and she is an extremely tough grader.
Organic Chemistry 2 is impossible with Dr. Leslie. Dr. Leslie is rude to her students making it actually intimidating to ask questions and meet with her during office hours. I recommend taking this course when offered with another professor. Expectations are incredibly vague.
not a fun teacher, grades differently per student. Was satisfied when the class average was an F. Rude to students who asked questions-unless they were A students who regularly met with her. Made chem I boring.
She is an incredibly harsh grader! Possibly the best Chemistry lecture you can ask for but in order to get A or even dream of it, expect no life or free time for other classes. She's also not as approachable as she used to be.
An extremely hard grader. Almost all tests include essays. You will never get the full points on essays, even if you have almost the same answer she gives on old exam solutions for the same question. She often takes points off and cannot give you a detailed reason why, just saying she "wanted more" or it is not "quite what she wanted." Hard teacher
Hardest teacher I have ever had. Knows what she is talking about but is a very harsh grader. Tests are a lot of essay questions, which you will never get full points for. She is not very pleasant to approach most days, and can never explain why you lost points on your tests, gives vague explanations. Made O chem 2 harder than it needed to be.
extremely hard prof. exams are ridiculously hard. i will probably be taking chem 1 again...
Loovveeee
She definitley knows what she is talking about. I personally like her and maintain a pretty good grade in her class, but it is not easy. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK! Don't waste your money, she just uses her slides and they are the same as the books.
Had for Gen Chem II. One of the best in the Chem department at Kent, both as a chemist and as a teacher, but notoriously difficult. Definitely not for those who are not interested in the chemistry or who do not have time to commit to the class. She will help you very readily, but can be intimidating at first. Go to the office hours.
She is a very educated professor but, she is probably the HARDEST grader there is. Her exams are extremely challenging and so are the quizzes. If you like an extremely challenging class, take chemistry with her as your professor.
She is awesome! compared to every chemistry teacher at kent she is the best! Her lectures are good and you can actually understand her. The power points are self-made and not right out of the book.
She's a very hard grader, but also an incredible teacher. Chemistry has never seemed so interesting. Do the work and study and you will be fine.
Very smart lady. Not cuddly, so don't expect that. Fair tests, but hard grader, you must nail every single detail correctly or you'll be surprised at how many points you'll lose. Not an easy A subject, but not impossible for a smart student who's willing to sell their soul to Ochem for a short while.
Amazing, amazing professor, hard grader. Do NOT think that you can get away with not studying for a test just because you pay attention in her class. But she is quite inspiring and makes you interested, even at 9am...Be prepared for a heavy work load but an awesome professor.
She is such a good teacher. She explains everything in class and isn't afraid to answer your questions. She's really helpful if you just go and ask her to explain something to you. She is a hard grader and this is not an easy subject so be prepared.
OChem is a difficult topic and you need to be willing to put forth the effort to remember and understand reactions and different mechanism. That being said, Leslie uses relevent examples and is a great professor. She give you the tools needed to succeed. I got an A without even trying that hard!
Best teacher I have ever had. Easy to listen to and understand. Its the best I have ever learned in a class. If you actually want to learn I suggest taking her if not good luck just doing the minimum.
I love Dr. Leslie, she had a lot of information to cover and it is a tough course, but she made it as easy as possible. Go to her weekly review sessions (during your class time the day you don't have it), they are so helpful. She did cover a lot of information that wasn't required, but thatw as to help the med majors with the MCAT. Overall <3
Dr. Leslie is difficult but she is also a fabulous teacher, so it evens out. She's funny and knows that we don't understand everything the way she does. Sample exams/ quizzes are pretty much identical to the actual one. Oh, and do not be messing around on a laptop/phone because she will call you out.
This is a very hard course. Do not expect it to be an easy class. However, she makes it as easy as possible. She gives many examples and tells you exactly what she expects you to know. She may not seem like the nicest person, but if you ask her for help, she will do everything she can to help you. She does crack a few jokes now and then!
She is a great professor. She makes things really relatable to the real world and is knowledgeable about chemistry. You need to put in effort to get an A, but she makes it easier to understand.
She is a great professor for General Chemistry one. If you need help, or anything she will help! I recommend her to everybody!
Very helpful and willing to answer questions. If you have any question relating to chemistry she is happy to answer it after class. Tough class, but she lets you know exactly what you need to on the tests and quizzes.
Not an easy teacher but she does everything she can to help out if you ask. Don't be afraid to ask questions and be sure you keep up on homework. Study hard and don't procrastinate. Attend SI sessions and ask her questions personally if you find yourself starting to struggle.
AMAZING TEACHER!!! She does a great job at explaining chemistry. Chemisty is very hard but she does a great job in dumbing it down so everyone can understand. Ask questions she will answer. DEF recommended. Best Chem teacher at Kent.
Dr. Leslie is made me actually enjoy chemistry. If you are taking Gen Chem 1 I highly suggest her.
Dr. Leslie can be strict but shes also one of the best professors you can take for gen chem 1. She does everything she can for her students and breaks down the material to make it easy enough to understand. This is a tough class but as long as you take advantage of the resources provided you'll pass.
Although Dr. Leslie is very knowledgeable about chemistry, she is incredible rude to her students. She was the lab coordinator for Organic Chemistry Lab and screamed at students, causing distractions to the entire lab. She was completely unprofessional when you emailed her with questions. She was unorganized with Blackboard requirements. AVOID
Best professor I have ever had. Gives you everything you need to know for the course. She is always there to help. Just a great overall person! Take this class if you can.
Dr. Leslie is one of the best professors I have ever had. She is very clear when teaching and very approachable and helpful to students. I learned so much in her class. Her grading is tough. I would recommend definetly taking a class with Dr. Leslie. She is the hardest but she is the best.
Professor Leslie is great. She doesn't treat students like they're supposed to be experts in chemistry. My advice would be to take the online homework seriously and study. I failed quizzes and got a D on the final but got a B overall because I got good grades on the homework. I could have gotten an A if I would have studied more.
Great professor! She is really great at explaining everything and is one of the best if not the best in the Chemistry department. It is a weed out class though because she is a tough grader and you have to work very hard. attend all of the SI sessions you can and go to office hours when you do not do well on a test!
I have never been the one to be interested in Chemistry until I switched my major from Nursing to Chemistry. Dr. Leslie has made my understanding of chemistry very clear. She gives the powerpoints, practice quizzes and exams all on blackboard. Her homework is worth 100 points (the LearnSmart). I wouldn't recommend NOT doing homework. It will save u
Dr. Leslie was by far my favorite Chemistry Professor at Kent. She is great at explaining things and always so helpful! She really hates Cell phones so if you have one out in class, she will call you out on it! Her practice quizzes and exams are just like the real thing, study and you'll be fine! I'd take her again in a heartbeat!
Do not use a cell phone
O chem is naturally a difficult class so dont expect it to be easy. Leslie does offer a lot of opportunities to help but be sure to do exactly what she wants on exams as no mercy will be shown.
The class is historically difficult and it is a very difficult course. HOWEVER. Dr. Leslie is incredibly clear and tells you explicitly what she expects on exams (detailed study guides provided). The tests are difficult and she is a very tough grader but it as long as you attend, take notes, and study rigorously it is possible to earn an A.
Practice Exams USE THEM;same format as real exams ;do not slack off even on the first quiz or it will ruin your grade FAST. a 68% is a passing C but class average is usually 60%. HW code is needed&can be done many times before due and will save your grade. If you have to take Chem1 she's your best bet. No Chem1 teacher is easy, but she is the best.
Really good teacher. Explains the concepts well!
Dr. Leslie was great at making her expectations clear. It is completely possible to succeed in her class as long as you're willing to put in the work. She moves fast paced but explains things extremely well. I recommend her! Also, her sample exams saved my test grades, use them! Wish all professors taught as well as her. GO TO CLASS
Overall good teacher!
She's a tough teacher and doesn't really have time for BS or excuses of any kind so be prepared. She can also be very short tempered if she notices you not paying attention, or doing other things in class so be sure to be keeping your attention.
She made chemistry easy for me. That's a lot to say. Her slides are all online, but definitely go to her lectures as she clearly explains everything. Just make sure you don't get on her bad side, especially if you're wondering what to wear during lab.
She goes through lectures SO fast, we were always 4 chapters ahead of all the other Gen Chem class. If you mess up one number on a problem on a test/quiz she marks the whole problem wrong which can really screw your grade over. Miss one class and you'll be confused for the next test
Dr. Leslie, although difficult, is an amazing professor. I thoroughly enjoyed her class and she always added humor to her lectures. However, she does move very quickly, so prepare to study!
Dr. Leslie was one of the harder profs I had, but she was excellent at her job. She was a bit speedy in lecture, but she would always stop everything to answer any questions students had at any point in the lecture. Emails were responded to quickly.
She can be funny most days, but she knows what she's talking about. She had multiple methods to solve problems for almost every chapter. As long as you go to class and use the methods she does, you'll do well.
Professor Leslie's teaching assistant taught the lab and she was very hard to understand.
Dr. Leslie is very educated about Chemistry, and sometimes goes too fast during certain topics which makes it hard to follow along. She is very picky when it comes to grading tests, but the whole class is basically quizzes and exams.
She is hands down the best professor i've ever had. I came into Gen Chem 1 never taking a high school chemistry class and she made is really easy for me to understand. She does move fast at times but all of the slides are online. She gives sample quizzes and exams that are almost identical to the real thing. Also gives study guides. Def recommend!
Molecules of Life is a difficult class to take online over the summer. I would not recommend it to anyone who did have 100% of their time to dedicate to the class. Dr. Leslie is great though! She is very accessible for an online class. The majority of you grade will be made up of your midterm and final.
Leslie wants her students to succeed, but expects you to do your part. She won't spoon feed you or cut you any slack, but this is what makes her such an amazing professor. EXTREMELY intelligent, makes relevant pop culture references during lecture to keep you entertained. Amazing teacher and person.
Never taken Chemistry before, it's a tough subject! Leslie is a great teacher, and she does a decent job at making the lectures somewhat entertaining.
Dr. Leslie is really a great professor. She is very thorough with what she teaches you, and understands that not everyone is as knowledgeable as her. She takes time to review material each week and clarify any misunderstandings. You definitely need to practice on your own but O Chem is a difficult class for most people.
Dr. Leslie is a respected and very educated professor, however, she just wasnt for me. She talked and wrote examples on the board very fast during her lectures making this new concept difficult for me. Also she isnt very helpful during her office hours, she only made me feel more dumb. Ill be retaking the course, but not with her.
The chemistry department at KSU is phenomenal, and Dr. Leslie is no exception. Unique sense of humor, approachable one on one, clear and concise lectures, although she tends to go very fast she acknowledges this and will slow down if you ask. Tough grader but it is for your benefit. A true legend :)
Very disrespectful to students both in class and through emails. Easily stressed because of the amount of students she had and took that stress out on students through impatience and misunderstanding.
Busy work
Dr. Leslie is truly a good professor. You can tell she knows what she is talking about and cares about the subject. She can admit when she makes a mistake and will do whatever it takes to make sure you understand the content. She does lecture a lot but there is a lot of material that needs to be covered. Going to class will help you do better.
Dr. Leslie knew what she was talking about, but her exams were incredibly difficult. There were also lots of online homework, which I wasn't informed about until a few weeks into the semester.
Leslie is a great professor but she just wasn't for me. She moves fast through lectures and her exams are very difficult. If you miss lecture you miss a lot of notes. The online homeworks are tedious and there's a lot of them. She's good if you enjoy chemistry or if you're good at it, otherwise I'd take another professor.
This is the worst teacher to take for a chemistry class. She speeds through the powerpoints and her tests are super hard. I even tried going to her office hours to tell her I was struggling and she didn't even care. And the exams are weighed at half your grade so if you do bad on those then you'll basically fail the class.
Homework does not benefit your grade whatsoever even though there are 1-2 online assignments a week that take a substantial amount of time. The tests mean everything, and they are often unfair and unneccesarily difficult. The lectures are crazy fast. Test averages are consistently low and nothing is done. Strong students (even in chem lab) fail.
All information is given on powerpoints that can be found on blackboard, but only by going to the lectures will you be able to learn the information as that's where she does all examples. Goes through class pretty quick but it's not too hard to keep up. Overall she's a great professor and I would take another chem class from her.
I had Dr. Leslie for gen chem 1 and she was a pretty great professor. She is extremely knowledgeable about the subject and knows how to break it down so it makes sense to her students. She goes pretty fast through lecture but has no problem stopping to answer questions. Go to her office hours it helps a lot, and overall I recommend taking her!
Would NEVER recommend her to anyone. She had powerpoints with minimal information so if you missed class you have no clue what was going on. Was extremely tough on grading, I missed points for how my handwriting was presented. Rushes through everything and will teach before quizzes. Homework took hours to do and was barely a portion of your grade.
TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!!! I've talked to multiple people who took other professors and they said everyone was passing their class, while in Margaret's EVERYONE I talked to was either failing or barely passing. HARSHEST grader I have EVER had. Would Rarely give partial credit even if work was missing one step, but answer was right.
this is literally the hardest class ive ever taken. she goes very fast in lecture and barely does any examples. she expects you to teach yourself most of the material and then gets mad at the class when we do bad on the tests. her test averages are usually around a 60% for the WHOLE class. i do not recommend and i would avoid at all costs.
Its very clear whats going to be on exams. No trick questions. Theyre just like the notes and examples she goes over. Study a week in advance and youll get an A on exams. I had Seed for this class previously but had to withdraw cause he was so hard on exams. She the opposite. Take her for o chem 2. She makes it easy to understand hard material
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. She dismisses me when I went to her office hours to ask questions, shes rude when you ask her why she took off points on a correct answer on exams (her explanations were dumb ). She gets defensive when you try to explain your answers also, Overall she's just very proud. Don't bother to take her
I love Dr Leslie! She is really great at explaining tough concepts, and her tests are always over relevant topics. O chem I with Dr Seed was tough for me, but I loved O chem II with her
Get ready to memorize that seems the most important. The pace is very fast with new material introduced almost daily. She is nice enough and explains everything well. Having an understanding the concepts is useless if you can't memorize the rules, exceptions and equations to apply them in tests. The whole experience shook my confidence in school.
Dr. Leslie is one of my favorite professors I have had at Kent so far. She has done very well with the remote courses based on the situation. Dont get me wrong, the class is tough. Ochem 1 and 2 are not easy at all but she does a great job in lecture. She can be a tough grader at times but overall I love her as a prof.
I have never been good at chemistry, so, I dreaded Ochem. Dr. Leslie made difficult concepts easy to understand! She can be a tough grader and tests are a majority of your grade, but if you pay attention in class, study, and do the extra practice problems she provides, then you will do well! DO THE EXTRA PRACTICE PROBLEMS, tests are very similar!
This class was very difficult since she did not provide any PowerPoint with the lecture videos and did not offer enough help during office hours. Also, I had three tutors throughout the semester that already taken General Chemistry 1&2 and Organic Chemistry and found the coursework to be very difficult to understand when trying to help me.
Dr. Leslie was the best chemistry professor I've had. I enjoyed going to her class everyday and I am going to miss going to the lectures. She was very nice and understanding when things came up outside of class, and was able to accommodate for me. Her lectures were very clear and she spent time making sure we understood the topics.
