Very helpful, Wants students to do well
classes are hard and she expects alot but any one who is serious about their education will do well..
Class is very interesting. Heavy workload, but if you are into the material, it's great. Clear expectations of students. She's really smart too.
Great teacher, really wants students to be involved with material. A lot of work but you learn a ton.
Dont take this class if you dont like to write. Very good teacher, but quite a large work load
so helpful, and really wants to make you want to learn the stuff. have had her many times now, highly recomend her to anyone who loves history, but if it's just a GER, take someone else, she's very hard... but its worth it in the end.
good teacher enjoys her job. Needs to control her temper and aim her anger where it belongs!!!
nice lady.....extremely boring class
She's the best! Lots of work, but you learn so much...don't take her if you don't like to write, but definitely take her classes if you like history
One of my favorite professors. Very challenging, but also very nice, understanding & helpful. I became much better at writing & studying history because of her class. I would only recommend her to serious students who are willing to work hard, though.
As an average student, I found this teacher very hard. You have to do a lot of work. Her essays that she gives on the homework readings are very difficult. Her classes are very boring. This teacher I would not recomend.
Very nice woman, willing to help students. lots of reading and group work in class. not very interesting but is informative. should be interested in history
she grades terribly hard and makes you do papers for homework. a lot of group activities. likes calling on you and making you feel uncomfortable. no tests, only a midterm and final. get out if you still can!

This was an honors section, and it was interesting sometimes, but she could've done A LOT to make it more interesting. Lots of little papers and one big 3500 paper at the end instead of a final or midterm. Worth taking though if you don't slack off.
Her class is easy if you do your work and all of the readings. The tests are difficult because you are expected to know everything! Her lectures are hard because its hard to tell when the lecture starts or stops or wether she's just rambling.
Great teacher, but not that easy! take if you actually like to be challanged, and if you want to LEARN (not that many ppl in college, tru!)
It was an honors class, but I think that she always gives a lot of work. I did learn a lot, though. 5 small papers, 2 bigger papers, homework every night, lots of group activities...only take if you're willing to do the work.
She's extremely nice and always willing to help with whatever the problem may be. I won't lie though, it's an intense course, even moreso at the honors level, but if you like history, this is your class. Lots of reading and writing.
I took this class due to the duality of the Const. requirement and Hist. requirement. It was a *lot* harder than a GER should be. A lot of people dropped it, and the papers are pretty hard. Lots of homework without much discussion. An OK class, but get someone else.
Too many tedious busywork paper assignments based on readings but no extensions. Whole class got B exam grades; does not scale. Does not like giving extra credit & only allows 2 opportunities for it. Course has nothing to do with the Constitution. Otherwise, informative course.
A LOT OF WORK. Only uses primary documents, not overview. TONS of Readings.
hnestly, she expects alot form her students and definitely raises the bar! Lots of reading and writing but if yoiu do the work and aprticipate then you will do fine...No slackers please!!!

Good professor but there is a lot of reading in her classes. Its hard but overall she is a great teacher. The only thing I didn't like were her quizzes on the reading she gave every tuesday before she went over it.
You learn from the book rather than her. She doesnt lecture. Too much tedious reading and group work. I dreaded going to this class because it just wasnt interesting. I think a teacher should show their knowledge of the subject which she clearly has. But she wont lecture and the class is geared more toward student opinions. Not a GER class.
not very nice or understanding. believes that there are no excuses for absences or being late. she was pretty rude.
Not rude, helpful and lenient. There is alot of work in the class, but is always giving people extra time to hand stuff in. Expects effort, I would recomment the course only if your interested in choosing an american diary and working with it all semester.
class was basically self-taught. she did not teach but still managed to talk alot without really saying anything. tedious, pointless group work. doesn't count the things that should, like participation. all in all, a waste of time and effort. majority of students lost patience with constant group work.
She is a cool teacher... VERY into what she is teaching. Her instructions are very very difficult and you never really know what she wants..
This was an early US women's class and Prof. Lowe was passionate about the subject. Theres a lot of reading and a quiz on the week's reading every Tuesday. If you're willing to put effort into a class TAKE HER. She loves what she teaches and all the reading really helps with understanding. She is an amazing prof. I recommend her for all HIST majors
2exams,1quiz per wk, 1 5pg. essay. Class interesting, but Lowe can be a bit unclear and a tough grader. A lot of reading, but manageable.
Good Prof. Attendance counts. Weekly quizzes,1 essay(5pg) paper, midterm and final (10 ID's 1 essay and study guide given) A lot of reading and she can be a tough grader, but overall an enjoyable class.
African American History. LOTS of reading, tough grader- she wnats everything to be perfect and if you miss one tiny thing she takes points off. I am not a fan of her teaching style, she does not teach. She just gives work and expects you to learn it yourself. Will never take her again.
Worst class I have ever taken. So much work with very little direction. She is very unclear with what she wants. DO NOT TAKE!
She's a nice lady and everything, but the work seems to be more busy-work and less learning-work. I learned more about history in high school.
Excellent teacher. Very rigorous but you can learn a lot if you keep your mind open and are willing to work.
I took her honors US History and Constitutions, and it was a little harder than I expected. I understand this, because it was honors, but she was not very helpful when we struggled. She frequently made us feel like idiots when we didn't understand things, and put people on the spot on a regular basis. That aside, she knows what she's taking about.
Amazing woman. Demanding, supportive and innovative. On of the bet professors I have ever had
Took this class for honors credit, had a lot of papers which i worked on for hours at a time and that i met with her about for help. Honors needs a B to have the class count and she cave me a B- knowing it would cost me the honors class even after i met with her for help. Such a rude person and i would not recommend. Doesn't care about you
Honestly, if your opinion is different than hers regarding history, you're wrong and she will give you bad grades. Talks all class about nothing, calls kids out, and will never answer questions. Seems like a sweet woman, but seriously, don't take her class.
She seems like a nice lady at first but you do not learn in class. Have to read tones every week. She does not tell you how she grades. She rambles about noting. Spend a lot of time in dumb group works that you never get enough time to fully do the work. You could learn more just by reading the chapter but attendants counts. Hate her don't take
She is very knowledgable but very unclear about the assignments, you work in groups and she talks the whole time and only gives you 10 minutes to complete work. Holds class to the last minute and has a ton of assignments. She means well but she needs to organize the class structure more.
Overall she's a nice professor and means well but her class is very boring. Talks the whole time and goes off on tangents. Very tough grader and is always unclear what she wants. Gives a lot of work and weekly reading assignments and papers. Don't expect to get an A in this class. She could be worse but could be a lot better. I would avoid her!
Okay here's the thing about Lowe, all you ever do is group work, but she only gives you 10 minutes to complete all the questions and present. Make sure she does not hate you because if she does you will fail. Her grading makes no sense whatsoever and he extra credit actually brings your grade down. AVOID TAKING HER.
You can meet all of the assignment expectations, but you'll have to do extra credit to pass the class!
Worst history professor I have ever had, and I'm a history major. She is a horrible grader, gives lots of papers. Just all around a bad professor.
Although she assigns a lot of papers throughout the semester, she does give clear expectations and gives good feedback. She is a tough grader, and the lectures can be a little tough to follow, but she is more than willing to help and is responsive to emails and student questions. You need to put in effort if you want an A in the class!
Professor Lowe is an older woman and you can tell she knows what she is talking about. She assigns discussion questions every week along with four case studies throughout the semester. The discussion question take time (she tries for 4-5 hours) but usually we end up working on them more. The positive thing is she'll give you a good grade for effort
She's a great teacher, but not a great professor. I learned a LOT, but the way she graded things and gave homework wasn't the best. Too much homework, grading is a little confusing. She posted final grades and I was under the impression of getting an A (from blackboard) but my final grade posted was a B+. Not the best professor to take.
She had way too many reading assignments and papers for a 200 level course. It was an honors level but most of the students barely made the passing grade to get the honors credit. She was rude, arrogant, and opposed views different from hers.
I showed up to every class and handed in every assignment. I worked hard to only receive a B in this class. If you are a less than perfect you wont pass this class. If you want to get an A you have to be able to read her mind. She will not respect your time and even if you do meet her standards you will not get the grade you desire.
I learned a lot in this class but her expectations were just unreasonable.
Dr. Lowe is not a professor I would take again. She spends most of the class time wasted on arriving to class and always comes in late. She loves group work but only allows 5 minutes in your group while she talks the remainder of the class. Please dont take her. She asked me if I could read because I didnt print 3 copies of an assignment.
too much unnecessary work
Do. Not. Take. Her. Gave so much work after we told her it was too much. Not good at responding to emails. Did weird meditation thing at beginning of class every day.
Sad to see so many negative reviews of her. She is a great human being that really cares for her students. Her class can be a bit dry and you have to work for a good grade, but overall she did her best to engage students and help them succeed if they made an effort. She is a modern thinker and incorporates history into what's happening now.
Do not take if you dont have a lot of time. Focuses on racism history more over U.S. history. Anything technological related history was followed by what group was oppressed do to it. Goes over a chapters worth in 1 day then moves into the next one next class. spent 4 times longer than the recommend hr amount per week to complete most assignments
Im disappointed she has such low ratings. Prof Lowe is inquisitive, kind, & caring. I had a tough semester&she allowed me to turn in several assignments late for no penalty. Her class is discussion &reading based, but I found the readings to be interesting formative. She takes 5 mins to meditate which was annoying at 1st, but grew to love.
This class was actually awful. You spend literally at least 6 hours doing homework and theres so much work and the course makes no sense. She's the sweetest lady but her class just was unbearable and the work load is insane.
I am saddened to read some of these posts. Professor Lowe is by far one of my favorite teachers here at BSU. She cares for her students, and cares for the content that she teaches. In terms of grading, she has a fast turn around. Quizzes are graded based upon completion, and final exams are reflection oriented. If possible, I will definitely take
I really loved my class with Dr. Lowe, she genuinely cares about the well-being and success of her students. Academically, she is amazing! She has a lot of engaging activities and assignments (all of which are reasonable in length). She also provides you with a ton of valuable resources in the form of lectures, handouts, and documentaries! 12/10!
The final grade is only out of 100 points, so the assignments were out of very few points. She was strict with grading and what she expected, so you could get points taken off very easily, making it more difficult to finish with a good grade. She is very caring, however, and makes it known she wants nothing but her students' success.
She's a professor who doesn't like when others share different opinions in her class. She loves to hear herself talk the whole class and often has group work that lasts 5 minutes. Her homework is a considerable amount for just a few credit course. Often takes a whole day to complete. She gives no opportunity for her students to excel in her class.
one of the nicest professors I have ever met great teacher too
She is a very nice and sweet lady. She is very smart and knows what she is talking about. Sometimes it is hard to receive an A with her, you definitely have to work for it. She makes the class meditate at the beginning of every class and it is adorable.
While very sweet and passionate about what she teaches, Prof Lowe's homework is more than most 400 level classes and she barely teaches. The majority of the class time is dedicated to group worksheets and presenting rather than a lecture which may work for some but I absolutely hate. Would be better if she actually taught lol
She gives lots of work and assigns a lot of homework. But she is one the easiest professors I've had when it comes to reaching out for help.
Overall good professor. Lots of work and able to make assignments if you ask. Flexible office hours
Easily one of the best professors ever. She is so sweet. She puts you in groups a lot, so you'll meet most of your classmates. There was no final test but a final "project." A "this day in history" presentation and opportunities for extra credit. Lots of homework and discussion board posts but you'll learn a lot. Nothing is too hard, just tedious.
Prof Lowe makes history really interesting. Her class was super engaging, a lot of different assignments (all fairly easy) that really make you think critically of the subject matter opposed to memorizing events. Really kind and caring, lots of learning, would definitely recommend.
Professor Lowe was very kind. She made learning fun and engaging for her students. However, generous amounts of homework each week. Along with much group work and small informal presentations.
Prof. Lowe is a very kind lady who truly cares for her students education and understanding of material. The work she assigns although is not too difficult is VERY tedious. So plan to spend a decent amount of time on assignments, mainly the discussion board posts. You also get assigned into groups and present informally every now and then.
Prof. Lowe is genuinely kind and caring. It is clear that she wants her students to succeed in and outside the classroom. This class required lots of work that was often tedious. However, class was always engaging. She is passionated about what she teaches and it shows. Also very accommodating, with quick email responses.
Professor Lowe is very kind and easy to reach outside of class, but she does assign heavy loads of homework and a lot of group work. She is flexible when it comes to late work and assignment extension. Overall, decent professor.
Women's history- we had 2 weeks to study a chapter of a txt book (which had hw assmnt & $65) classes also mainly had group work to discuss some of the chapter these were about 2 points per assignment (total of about 20 assignments) She hardly lectured. Very accessible out of class, easy classes, just do the homework and participate. Very nice prof
Not extremely hard for a 400 course but her grading was weird. Three essays, one project, and lots of in-class group work. There was a midterm and a final, but they were just essays. She's super sweet but not at all tech savvy. The textbook is online for like 60 dollars, but it comes with all the bi-weekly-ish quizzes. Would take again, sweet lady.
Margaret Lowe does not teach. She is not a professor; she makes her students do group work for every class and does not have a single lecture. Reading can be 50+ pages to 100+ pages every night. Every Tuesday, there is a reading quiz that requires you to read everything, and if you don't read one article, it WILL BE ON THE FRICKEN EXAM.
495 - Not a bad class, not a great class. Only gripe was largely my fault: my capstone paper far exceeded the established word count and I had to tear it apart to make it fit them. I liked that paper, but oh well. Lots of group work, quizzes on reading assignments. Student presentations galore. Lectures infrequently, but overall a nice person.
This was the worst professor I've ever taken. She doesn't actually teach anything, there is a quiz every class that she will knit-pick, and relies on group work ONLY. Do not take her for African American History if you actually wanna learn about it, she waters their lives down to slavery and civil rights, not culture or their actual lives.
US in the 60s. She is such a nice person. Very caring and accessible. This class was based around a 15 page paper. She gave good feedback on drafts. Rather than her lecture, we mainly did group work with 2-3 people based off the textbook. You need to go to class bc there is sometimes reading checks. Very easy for an upper history class. easy hw,
She gets such a bad rep for genuinely caring and believing in her students. She assigns the work expected in a higher-level history class. Do not take her if you do not actually like history. Three essays, weekly quizzes, and lots of groupwork. She is a super sweet professor who genuinely wants her students to succeed as historians.
Professor Lowe is a wonder person who is very well educated in her topic. I felt that I learned a lot in her class and even though there is a lot of reading and group classwork, it does better prepare you for quizzes and larger assignments. You will be mostly graded on weekly quizzes and hw about the readings, a presentation, and essays.
I thought Dr. Lowe was a great prof. Mostly group work during class, a presentation and some essays. She does weekly quizzes, but if you do the reading they're not that bad and lowkey help boost your grade. Lowe is really sweet though, def talk to her about pursuing further research if you're interested. Super passionate and smart
