This woman will lower your IQ. They must give a PhD in english to anyone. She is pretty nice though. She's not too tough of a grader.

I took her because I heard she was easy and stupid but I wasn't prepared for the level of stupidity that slapped me across the face in this class everyday. This reminds me of high school sophomore English except my artsy weed smoking teacher was smarter.
She is most likely the most boring teacher i have ever had. Far too much busywork and she plays favorites in the class when grading...so don't get on her bad side. Overall the class isn't too difficult...just dumb.
You wanna learn? Take her! She's not bad at all. A little bit of a hard grader, but my writing skills improved a lot. She can be very nice with you if you treat her with respect, too.

She's a very nice teacher, but grading is a bit tough. She'll give you a chance to rewrite your paper if it's a C- and lower. If you asked her for help she would help you.

There is not too much work and she is a good teacher.
I always got c's on my papers in high school but she gave me b's. a big improvement. if thats because i'm a favorite then i will take it. she is a very nice teacher but it can be pointless sometimes to go to the class.

this teacher is completely unfair and makes judgements on first impressions. she thinks she knows everything but is wrong. she expects everyone to see her views as the correct views. you have no say in the class and she looks down on minorities.
She's all right. Not a hard grader when it comes to papers but WARNING: She picks favorites in the classroom. If you are one of the favorites, you get A's but if you aren't you get C's. Still, she is flexable.
She orginally gave me a C on one of the papers and I went to talk to her about it, and realized she had no real reason for the C so I started arguing with her and she raised it to a B- basically she grades you based on to what extent you agree with.

The year started out all right... then she picked her annoying favorites. I went in for help and she told me that is what class time is for. I handed in rough drafts that she marked as strong with few comments... definitely did not get the grades I wanted
Had her for a special seminar class, it was awful! With four students, missing class wasn't an option and it was blatanly obvious that she chose favorites, in my class, it was the kids from private schools.

This is definitely a class to avoid. It is very true about her picking her favorites. If you're not her favorite you get a C- for everything, if not a rewrite! Crazy woman! She says you won't pass the class but you usually end up passing anyways.
She isn't easy but her class is worth taking. She makes you work for your grade but through that, I definately improved in my writing skills. She's helpful if you ask.
You really have to work for your grade. To me it seemed like I was getting graded just to keep the curve balanced. She is a nice teacher.
SHe is a really really nice person and teaches in a kindegarten sort of way BUT she grades really hard. I should have gotten an A in the class but I ended up with a B. Not too much work but again...not easy to get an A, she really likes to give B's
Do nottake. She reminds me of my grandmother. At times it seems like she doesn't know what hse is talking about in class. Every paper is the same thing wither about racial discrimination/or gender.
I didn't enjoy this class at all. I personally think it is time for Mrs. Loweth to retire. She makes everything seem difficult than what it actually is. Also you have a midterm on grammar. Choose another english teacher, please do so!
I like her. Shes really really nice, she makes you work hard but at the end it only makes you a better writer. i enjoy her and would take her i the future..no class work.
Treats you like you are a 3rd grader. She feels the need to explain every little detail 10 times. This is annoying, but the class is really easy. Each paper has like 3 drafts before the final draft, and many days are spent doing peer editing.

Yes, don't take her. She reminds me of an elementary school teacher. I should get a fine arts credit for taking this class since I sit there and act attentive and quizical and bright eyed every day!! (Tilt of the head) What was that?
If you are not writing well, she will work with you. Easy to talk to and well read. Understands frustrations of writing. As long as you try in her class and ask her to read your paper's ahead of time, you are bound to do well. Has good insights as to writing styles
take it from me- she is as easy as you will probably find. She does however, look like Sue Johansen which is entertaining. If you can write even moderately you should be ok. The midterm grammer test is not that bad- you can get 120 points out of 100 and if you read the book it's not bad.
Greatest and Easiest teacher in the world. She is very helpful and nice to have as a teahcer. There is a bit of writing in the class but they are so easy that you don't even have to read the material. Her mid term was extra easy, I did not study at all and I just made up things but I got an A!
I don't know why so many people don't like this sweet, little lady! She's not the most fantastic prof. ever, but she's not difficult and does not require a whole lot from her students.
Extremely easy class if you know how to write at all. Don't understand all the negative feedback she has gotten in the past... Might not be the best teacher I've had this semester but she does have some interesting things to say. Spunky little lady! She does play faves though.
Big on writing and journals and discussing what u learn from ur writing she's an ok grader, not quite sure if i would say she's fair...horrible monotone voice, but not too bad...i wouldnt say dont take her class id jus say be ready to do some writing
She's okay! Rd. 1 bk whole semester and all papers are focused on this 1 bk. It can get kinda boring but you learn to deal with it! She isn't the fairest grader. Big on grammar, a few grammatical errors automatic C no matter how good the content is!
I loved her class. She is an amzaing teacher. The class isn't the easiest but its worth takeing. I would recommend her anytime. She so nice and helpful. You will enjoy this class, trust me.

She is very liberal. She tends to babble, I fall asleep sometimes. She likes to have discussions in class, which means attendence is important. But the discussions are sometimes pointless. But don't get me wrong, some people really like her. I guess your personailities just have to be similar
Shes a pretty good teacher, as long as you DO NOT show any conservative views. Very libral, and you are forced to write all of your papers with a liberal view, or you will not get a good grade. Youll learn that white males evil. Essentially if you can feign being a libral, its an easy class.
She doesn't really help you with your papers during conferences. She talks about the topic, but doesn't help you with what she wants in the paper. Also, she explains what she is looking for in the paper after you turn it in. Class can get really boring too. Length of papers aren't too bad.
I wrote 6 drafts of my research paper, had an invidiual and a group conference with her, and only got a C+ on it. Plays favorites, unclear what she wants from your papers. Worst English teacher I've had in my entire education. Don't take her unless you don't care about your GPA.
You guys are just poor writers (as are most undergrads). She recognizes good writing and rewards it. I received A's on all of my papers in the class except for one. IF YOU ARE A POOR WRITER, YOU WILL GET GRADED AS SUCH.

Avoid her at all costs. You won't be any better of a writer after you finish a semester. She chooses one topic and tries to make you focus on that topic the whole semester. After a few assignments you'll get sick of it. And I have yet to see somebody get an A from her on any paper.
Very unclear on what she expects from her students. Tough grader, I was always an A student and then all the sudden, i couldnt get more than a B- on a paper. I didnt feel that I gained much as a writer after her class.

She's a pretty bad teacher. I was told to take her by my orientation leader; don't. She grades really hard on papers, and my teachers previously have told me I am a great writer. You don't really have daily homework at all, so that's OK I guess. But you better be a PERFECT writer to get an A in her class.
The wrost teacher Ive ever had. Very unclear. Dont count on extra help if you go to her office. Has favorites. Go to every class. If you dont go, expect her to ask where you were. She was very helpful to me in office hours, she will go through papers and tell you exactly what you need to do to get a good grade. She is very unclear, though, and grades very tough. Every other teacher I have ever had has said I am an amazing writer, to her I am a B writer... but if you show her that you want to do well, she will help you
She is completely unhelpful. She does not teach in class. She will talk about whatever she feels like until the last minute of class and then keep you over for 5 minutes to tell you the assignment. She was rude to students and talked about them when they werent there.
If she does not like your worldview, you will not do well in her class. She is the type of person who refuses to understand something if it is even a nanometer beyond her current understanding of the world. Her behavior is passive-aggressive, her teaching style repetitive, condescending and annoying. She recieves comments and never changes.

If you ask her one little thing about you paper be prepared to stay there for ten minutes while she lectures you on things unrelated to the class. She is the worst. Getting up to go to her class was painful. Half the time it seems like she is clueless. My advice to her is to retire and let someone else teach. Overall she made my semester miserable.
I enjoyed this class a lot, and found it to be very easy. As long as you show up with your work done and participate once in awhile you will do fine. Don't take the class expecting your grades will be reflective of your high school English performances, she tells you what she expects from you and it'll probably be different from what you learned in
I don't know what you guys are talking about. she must've changed a lot this semester cause this teacher is ADORABLE!! she is so nice and willing to help anyone. yeah she's not the easiest grader on papers, but she's pretty fair. I've only been in her class for about 1-2 months, but she's not too bad so far!!
I was scared by the comments before taking this class, but really it's not bad. She is much less annoying than the students I'm in class with. She gives you the grade you deserve based on the work you put in and the quality of your writing, so don't expect to breeze through. She can get off-topic and be boring sometimes, but gives good assignments.
this class sucks. i rated her previuosly the first month because she seemed alright..but after a couple months of that class, i cant wait to get out!!!..its hard to get A's even if you put a lot of effort in your work..she's a nice lady but otherwise don't come in expecting an easy A. Terrible. One of those classes where everyone just bashes the teacher before she comes in. I spent 14 hours on a paper and got a B- on it. Class is mandatory and was constantly bored.
When you go to class you don't learn anything. Her grading is random. I spent the better part of 10 hours on a paper and got a C+ then when I started a paper the morning of the class I got an A on it. Save yourself a headache take someone else
There are 10 paper assignments in her class, and for each of them you must turn in a draft before hand. So that plus all the other assignments, you end up comming to class everyday with something to turn in. Her grading is frusterating and seemingly random. This class is very time consuming and you don't learn anything. **Not suggested**
Honestly she isnt all that bad. Sure her lectures are boring most times and she grades hard but this class isnt meant to help your GPA but rather your writing. If ur worried about your GPA then dont take her, but if you want to be a better writer then she is a must. I got an A on the last paper and I never got As in English before, its possible.

Nice lady, but loves to talk and class usually let out 5 minutes late nearly every day. Tough grader, going to office hours is essential. Relatively easy to get a B, nearly impossible to get an A.
Hard grader, true, but very willing to help. Tends to get off topic and speaks slowly, class usually lets out late, but is a nice woman and seems to genuinely care about her class and what she is teaching. Not the best GPA booster, but I am a stronger writer for having taken this class
HATED THIS CLASS. parallels hell. worst teacher I've probably EVER had. Her journals she makes you write are worthless and we literally wrote 3 papers on national service. She discusses individual student issues during the class time. Transfer or drop the class immediately.

I took this professor thinking that she could not be as bad as the other ratings said she was. BELIEVE THEM! every single word said is true. a) she refuses to give A's, you have to work ridiculously hard just to get a B+. She is completely biased in ever sense of the word. I was in honors english all throughout high school and I'm getting a B in this class. Not only is the grading ridiculous but her criticisms go against much of what I've been taught. I wish I had listened to all the warnings and gotten out of her class. I feel that throughout the course my writing has actually gotten worse because of her feedback

WORST teacher I have ever had. I thought this would be an interesting class but she has taken the fun out of everything. She is boring and is stuck in her ways. Loweth is absolutely the worst teacher I've ever had. Her method of teaching comes from the Stone Age, and unless you're one of her favorite students, you will not get any higher than a B. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. She should be removed from Loyola and replaced by someone who actually knows what they're doing and knows how to teach.
Ok so on the first day. I told myself ok this nice looking old lady will help me write better. After few weeks of assignments and 1 Paper turned in. Her horns started growing feeding off of student's misfortune. Do not take her. I wish i knew about this site before taking her.

I am so glad I had her for UCWR 110. I hardly ever did any writing in high school and her class was so easy. We only had to write a few papers and I never did rough drafts and wrote all the papers the night before they were due and always got good grades. This class was my only A this semester and I learned a lot about writing.
This is by far one of the WORST English teachers I have ever had. She has made my writing worse. Her comments change the meaning of your paper completely and she refuses to see things from a different point of view. The only way to get through the class is by kissing her ass. STAY AWAY! IF YOU CANT GET OUT OF THE CLASS, TRANSFER! WORSE THAN CANCER!
She can be a nice old lady when she's not teaching but this woman just needs to retire! her teaching methods are outdated her papers are boring and her grading is awful and biased. Save your GPA and don't take her!
She miscalculated my grade so I received a B+ instead of an A-. With that said, I did not put forth too much effort in her class and frankly I think the rest of the students are underrating her. It was an easy class for me.

She's a nice woman with ridiculous grading standards. I did great in english in high school and she told me everything that I had learned was wrong. Strict grader but willing to read essays in advance to help improve. But if you work hard you should get an A
