MS. Lyles is thee coooolest chemistry teacher on campus.. She is really really nice and easy going.. i dont know how u cannot get an A in her class..I had her for 1045L, 1046L and now for organic chem labb too.. TRusT Me, Go RegIstEr FOr HeR iF u CaN..
Not recommend for chemistry, unless you aready know your stuff. she fail 75 percent of the class. she give quiz every week. you will need to study alot to even make a c. attendence is mandatory three strike and you are out with an f.
MS. LYLES IS A HORRIBLE TEACHER. SHE IS THE TYPE THAT PICKS AND CHOOSES WHO SHE WANTS TO HAVE FAIL OR PASS. NEVER TAKES OUT THE TIME TO WORK AROUND YOUR SCHEDULE AND HERS TO HELP OUT WITH WORK THAT YOU DONT UNDERSATND. SHE IS AN AD-JOCK TEACHER...MEANING SHE JUST GRADUATED. MAYBE THAT IS THE REASON FOR HER IN-EXCUSEABLE TEACHING ABILITES!!! BEWARE
Worst chemistry teacher ever I had. I don't recommend her for chm 1046 lecture. I don't think she understands what she is teaching. Good instructor for lab. The department has to assign other instructors for lecture.
she makes the material seems extremely easy but when u take the test it's like wtf??? she doesn't go over the problems but she teaches the concept so if ya like me and can't apply the concepts, you're pretty much screwed. but she's really nice and u can go to her office for additional help but overall, if u work hard, she'll help u pass
All i have to say is DO NOT TAKE HER, the worst techer ever. I would rather take my high school chemistry teacher than her. She is horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!
the worst teacher i ever meet!! she gave me my first "F"... doesnt know the material in which she teaches!! loves to talk about her preaching husband and her updo's... CHOOSES BY WHO SHE LIKES!! and thats mostly football players or certain ppl... WARNING DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER.... EEEEVVVEERRR!
Do not take her. She picks and chooses who she likes (to pass or fail). She likes to go off onto tangents and barely focuses on the material. She'll pass/like you only if you go to her study sessions. Never gets things done in time, always changes dates of when assignments are due or when exam date is. If you have her, try to teach yourself.
HHHAAATTTEEEEE HHHEERRRR!! BY FAR THE WROST TEACHER AT FAMU... EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE ALOT OF BAD TEACHERS AT FAMU...SHE IS IN THAT CATEGORY!!!!
I RECOMMEND U TAKE HER FOR CHEMISTRY...SHE IS A GOOD TEACHER U JUST HAVE TO ATTEND HER CLASS AND HAVE YOUR BOOK...IF U DO TAKE HER CLASS I RECOMMEND U GO TO HER STUDY SESSIONS THEY ARE VERY HELPFUL...SHE PASSED ME EVEN WHEN I REALLY DIDNT DESERVE IT!!!!!
I lost my intrest in chemistry. She is a horrible instructor. Try any other teacher. You can learn better by reading the book. "She passed me when I didn't deserve" Stupid comment! Comment on her quality as instructor. May be you are one of the chosen in class.
VERY GOOD TEACHER...SHE IS CLEAR FUN AND VERY HELPFUL...
Listen I got an A, I dont know what these guys are talking about. Why the hell are you complaining because a teacher passed you and you didnt deserve it. Know the study guides, study the chapter for about a week, and you will be fine. Matter of fact she copies and pastes the tests from the study guides she gives you. TAKE HER!!!
I love Dr. Lyles, Chemistry classes in general are difficult but, taking her is a big help she wants you to pass.Though at times she can be unorganized and scatter brained. She passed me with a B, I love this Lady!!! Take her!!
Mrs. Lyles is a very good teacher....she wants her students to succeed and gives you study guides where most of the test questions are taken from..she is very funny and outgoing i would def take her again....the only way you can get a f is if you dont do anything.
dr.lyles isa great professor just make sure you attend all her classes and study sessions, bring your book to class and study, study, study
MAN THIS LADY IS GREAT...I LOVE HER... SERIOUSLY... SHE WANTS HER STUDENTS TO DO WELL...SHE'S SOO HELPFUL...HER STUDY SESSIONS ARE THE BEST... SHE'S THE BEST TEACHER AT FAMU...I MEAN THE BEST... I MEAN ITS NOT GON BE SUPER EASY... U MUST WORK... BUT IN THE END YOU WILL FEEL GREAT BECAUSE YOU'VE LEARNED ALOT
i love dr.lyes. when i first got in the class i hated chemistry. now i love chemistry because she explains it where you can't help but understand. study sessions are a must even if you just show your face because during the test sometimes she will correct your misstakes so that's a few extra points.4 exams. it's required to study but not hard raed
I love Dr. Lyles. She explains everything in a way that you will understand. If you want to pass her class come everyday and attend study sessions b/c they help alot. Ask lots of questions. She will answer them. You will have to do your part though. Overall, great teacher!!!
Dr. Lyles tends to pick favorites and only helps them out. (she looked at me like I was a criminal just for asking what I made on a test) Chem tests are now standardized for all classes on campus and she'll only cover 75% of the material on the tests. Suck up to her and she'll help you; if you have dignity, plan on teaching yourself.
She will pass you IF she likes you. Show up to her study sessions and YOUR SET! She only teaches at the study sessions. She comes 15-20 mins late to class everytime and likes to leave early. If you're good in Chemistry, take her. Do NOT take her if you're a slow learner.. she expects you to know ALL your information. Got a C with a miracle.
She explains everything in a way that you will understand. If you want to pass her class come everyday and attend study sessions b/c they help alot. Ask lots of questions. You will have to do your part though. Overall, great teacher!!!
Dr. Lyles is a favorites teacher. She only recognizes her favorites of the class. Everybody else is sort of just there. I really would not recommend taking her.Now if you have to take her BE CAREFUL and TRY HARD to be recognized by her.
I love Dr. Lyles...She is a great teacher and goes out of her way to make sure you know the information. She makes Chemistry fun.
Dr. Lyles is a great professor. You cant expect her to just give you a grade, you have to work for it. But she will help you pass. Attend study sessions. I took Figgers and got a D in her class, but passed Lyles with a B!! I was so happy. Please take her, ask questions and you will be just fine!!I will let no other professor teach me chemistry:-)
Dr.Lyles is really smart. she will help you out if you come to her office. By my 230 lab class she was always tired so we ALWAYS got out early. she is really nice and easy to talk to. She doesn't pass back assignments, so your grade is a mystery, but you shouldn't have any other issues with her class.
I WILL FOREVER LOVE THIS WOMAN!! if u dont understand chemistry u need to take her!! she breaks everything down to a T! she has morning study sessions every other day and afternoon study sessions. is VERY helpful and will give wat u give. love, love, love Dr. Lyles!!
Dr. Lyles is really smart. I think she likes lecture more than lab though. She often shows up late and lets you out early. If you are looking for an easy A - she's the one. If you're looking for comprehension- keep looking.
I thank God for this woman. she passed me both times I had her even though i didnt really deserve it. for some reason I could not grasp chemistry but if she see you working hard and coming to her study sessions for help she will have your back. make sure you get to know her she's like another mother.
I wish she taught organic chemistry...She teaches you chemistry with examples that stick to your brain...She has a funny sense of humor too..She told me one time if I brought her lunch she would help me in her office hours...Just put forth a little effort and listen to her and she is Bgrade possible.trust me.she isnt the greatest but FAMU #1chm pro
Dr Lyles is a great teacher go to study session and you'll pass her class
Dr. Lyles helped me understand chemistry so much! She is so clear and you WILL remember the criteria! Dr. Lyles is a TRUE BELIEVER and she LOVES GOD! She is literally the BEST CHEMISTRY teacher at FAMU! She will work with you and she wants EVERYONE TO PASS! Like she said, if you come to her study sessions, YOU WILL pass her class! TAKE HER!!!
Very straight forward and personable. Not as rigid as other chemistry teachers can be. Good personality, if she knows you she will look out.
Doctor Lyles is amazing! As long as you go to class and be productive.
Great teacher, will get to know you, and helps out a lot. Passionate about Chemistry and it kinda rubs off on you. Lots of work assigned but, all of it is relevant and you'll be thankful when the test comes. Havent fail one test in her class and i suck at Chemistry.
She is a really good teacher, very helpful and she hold study sessions after each class for extra help. If you want to learn the information go everyday and the book is not really needed.
Great teacher! She moves kind of fast in the class but she holds study sessions that are very helpful. Class isn't that easy so you have to study.
I thought chemistry would be my hardest class but because of her it turned out to be the easiest. She is a great teacher and actually turned out to be my favorite. Go to study session and do your work and the class will be easy to pass. She is passionate about chemistry and loves to see her students succeed.
Love this teacher she is like a mother once you get to know her study what she tells you an you will pass the class it's not that hard
BEST chemistry teacher! she knows her stuff. She is so kind & sweet. She makes sure that her students understand the material. Take her if you can!
Dr. Lyles is the best chemistry teacher ever!!! She really cares about her students excelling within chemistry and her class.Go to the study sessions they are very helpful and you can receive the one on one help. I wish see was teaching chm 1045.
She is an amazing teacher! She really is passionate about chemistry, and wants you to succeed and excel and she will do everything in her power to help you! GO TO STUDY SESSION! ITS SO HELPFUL & IMPERATIVE THAT YOU DO! She made me love chemistry she is amazing if you fail her class its your fault because she does everything to help you! I love her!
Dr. Lyles is the best chemistry teacher hands down. Before I took her class I had a D. Then taking her class helped me improve my grade to a B+. Honestly I love chemistry because I understand it now thanks to her. If you ever take chemistry take her class. You will never regret it.
I like professor lyles..its just sometimes her teaching style can be a little irritating. the only thing that's seems to be difficult is her test but overall she is a really good passionate chemistry teacher! take her!
TAKE HER! She really wants you to learn chemistry! Definitely not a class that you can breeze through! You have to put in the effort! But she is so nice & funny and she loooveeess chemistry! Take her if you really wanna learn! & Go to her study sessions!
Great teacher, shes very clear with what shes talking about. Very helpful have tutoring sessions instead of office hours.
Don't take her if you are not going to put in the effort because it will be a waste of your time and hers. She will push you! She is so helpful and passionate about Chemistry (& the lord lol). Dont take her study sessions for granted! Study and youre guaranteed an A! I loved her and she MADE me work for my grade!
just be willing to learn study and come to class, as well as study sessions
Dont curse in her class or you're gonna end up writing 20, 20 letter words
Love her. She's real cool. Encourages students to exercise their faith, which is so great. She breaks it down so you can understand, she will pass you if she knows that you are trying. There's no way you should fail. I got an A! :-)
I love her !! she is a must take teacher , she is so nice and willing to help
shes really nice and a cool prof! she really explains the info well and really wants you to learn. I encourage anyone to take her. you wont regret it
She's amazing and she makes everything clear and simple! I didn't think I was gonna get an A in chem 2 but I did and it wasn't hard! Quizzes are given 2 days before the exam and they were pretty similar to the actual exam.
MY FAVORITE! I LOVE DR. LYLES SHE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR THAT THE ENTIRE SCIENCE DEPARTMENT HAS TO OFFER!!!! Not only did she teach me chemistry very well she literally TAUGHT ME LIFE! She really cares about her students and b/c of her efforts many people think she's easy and she not she's just AMAZING AT WHAT SHE DOES and her students just gets IT!
First off let me say the chm department SUCKS! This course is really 1025(the first time they are doing it this way). These comments must be from the 1 or 2 students who didn't withdrawal from the course. I talked to my advisor & he's never had so many ppl drop the class before until now. Her teaching method doesn't work for me. Its all over place.
Dr L is a great professor and her lectures will prep you for any chemistry class you take after. But, she doesn't believe in curving or extra credit. My average for all test (including the final) was a 75%, my quizzes and homework assignments were all As. But, I didn't see those grades reflect into my overall grade at all.
Take her If you want to fail! Everyone told me she was the best professor to take that was a lie she failed tf out of me I thought I was safe but fr take advantage of the lectures she offers a lot of help she can be rude and expects you to already know everything just pick another professor to stay on the safe side 80% of my classmates made c's
Phenomenal instructor
Take her if you can!
the best
Okay I heard she was the best teacher for this class. She is a good professor however what she will not do is sit there and repeat things that were learned in intro chem. I would definitely recommend reading your textbook and working out a few problems before coming to class so that you know what she is talking about. She can be rude sometimes lol
She is a good professor, however she could be more organized. She does her lectures from the top of her head therefore, she ends up jumping all over the place. She will also take forever to give back your test and will not put the scores up on Blackboard, and she dose not have realistic office hours!!! But she still is a good professor!
I was deceived by the reviews that she would be an easy class. I WOULD NOT take her again nor do I recommend her. If you decide to take her I advise that you do the homework on time (It's open for the whole semester), attend review sessions, and try to do your best on the tests.
The test are really hard. You have to go home and review over your lecture notes and read the online book and also do the homework assignments on Wiley, because that will help. Class is so long and she teaches for the whole time. There is not a clear topic that you will learn that day because she teaches from the top of her head. No extra credit
Dr. Lyles is a great professor! I reccomend her to anyone, well worth my money and time! She is so inspirational, just FOCUS and GO TO CLASS! Do your part and she does beyond her part! Good luck and DON'T GIVE UP! "Faith without works is dead.."
The class wasn't hard, but you did have to study. She's not organized at all and her teaching style is all over the place. There is no extra credit. Tests matter the most. I wasn't a fan of Lyles
She is a good teacher, not the BEST but shes not terrible. She does teach you things at a fast pace, so keep up. But shes good, go to the tutoring.
she is chill, go to her study sessions and pay attention in class. you will be successful
This professor gets an attitude when you ask a simple question about the work or about your grade.
She a great teacher. Simple to understand, and will actually explain what the content of the chapter is. You need to do your have, by reading a little. However with just a little amount of information you can basic learn the rest off her. You basically have four quizzes, four exams, and homework for each chapter with optional work. Simple
She will explain the content to you. Pay attention in class and attend the study sessions and you'll do fine. She passes the roll every day. No extra credit but the final grades are curved: 84-75 B 74-65 C 64- 55 D.
Dr. Lyles cares about the students, and she tries her best to make sure the students know what they are doing in class. There was no extra credit given, so you earn what you put in. Make sure you take good notes in the class and go to her office hours, if you need better understanding. The study sessions that the tutor held were VERY helpful !
I love Dr. Lyles! She is the best chemistry professor at FAMU!!!! Take her and you will do well. Her lectures are amazing and she is available after class for extra help
Class is not hard, just pay attention from the very beginning everything honestly ties together. And definitely go the study session they will save your life!!! She also moves kind of quickly so just stay alert and focused.
She understands the curriculum but there one four exams and it either you know the work or you don't. She does not give handouts, everything is earned.
As long as you show up and pay attention (and do homework) easy B class
Dr Lyles is the BEST chemsitry professor I have ever had the University. During class she TAUGHT material using both the textbook, her extensive knowledge of the subject, and example problems. She lead numerous study sessions for students to review material covered in class. Her dedication to her students is amazing and unmatched. SHE IS GODSENT!!!
Lyles is honestly the best choice for Orgo. Organic Chemistry in itself is a hard class, but she cares about her students and wants to make sure the material is truly understood. She is hilarious and has great lectures. She wants to see everyone pass but will make you work for your grade. Attend class and go to her study sessions and you'll pass.
Dr. Lyles is an amzing professor, She really loves teaching and she cares about her students. Organic Chemistry is difficult and you must put in work for your grade. If you read, attend her study sessions, go to the lab, do ALL homework and many practice problems you"ll pass.
I had professor Lyles for CHM 2211. She definitely loves Chemistry and everything about it. However, she is super rude! She gets mad when students ask her questions and tries to make you feel dumb for asking a question. She does not open homework and she will fail you in a heartbeat and wont feel bad about it! DO NOT TAKE I REPEAT STAY AWAY!!!!!
She is a great professor. She is truly passionate about chemistry and it shows. She wants you to learn and will provide you with the information and resources to succeed.
She doesn't read labs beforehand so she is often confused with what we are doing. Lab days are very unpredictable because she likes to make up procedures on the spot. Nevertheless, she is very funny and it is an easy A class. Be prepared to draw procedures and wear proper lab attire!!
This woman is a real piece of work! She goes back on her word a lot. She is a good teacher however she expects everybody to have her level of knowledge. Very snappy in class but decent in office hours. She gives a very UNREASONABLE amount of homework which is due at a very unreasonable time! She is not understanding especially when it comes to test
I took Dr. Lyles for both Orgo 1 and Orgo 2 so I knew what to expect. You must read, do the HW, and practice many problems. She loves teaching and she loves her students but you must do your part or you WILL fail!
Shes rude dont respond back to emails. Her test are worth everything and her hw is only worth 10 points. Go ahead and take her if you want to fail.
O-Chem is already hard enough as it is and has a lot that goes into it, so it's a given that you'll have to teach yourself. Dr. Lyles teaches just enough for you to be able to teach yourself the material on your own time. Make the textbook your best friend and go see a tutor because attending lecture just isn't enough for you to pass this course.
She expects you to know the chapter beforehand because she uses lectures as a review of each chapter & its concepts (or a time for you to ask questions). Reading ahead helps make the numerous assignments understandable. She can be rude and most of the time have an attitude, but she is GREAT at teaching orgo chem.
Dr. Lyles is a great teacher if you and your classwork well with her she will try her best to help everyone in the class out, her grading scale is really nice. She does give attendance grades. You will most likely have to read the chapters before class and she will give like 6 different homework per chapter.
show up to class and office hours if you want to pass this class! I failed every test + the final, missed a couple of homework assignments, and managed to pass the class with a grade I really didn't deserve! SHE BLESSED MY GRADE! I recommend staying on top of assignments & watching youtube videos on the material! I highly recommend her for ORGO 1!
Very good professor! Patient and funny! How to pass! 1.) Go to her study sessions, she teaches you how to do test problems 2.) Go to class, her lectures will give you test answers 3.) Do the homework and assignments, once again all of these are test problems 4.) Do well on the test, she normalizes and if you did the previous you'll earn an "A"
Take her! Go to office hours and show her that you care. If you want to pass STUDY THE HOMEWORK!
Stay on top of the material, study sessions, tutoring, going to class, all of it and you will pass just fine. Funny and really good teacher just homework and material are heavy. Expect pop up assignments and quizzes as well as late nights and early mornings if you attend her personal study sessions. Curves tests occasionally.
Dr. Lyles is a good teacher. You will learn something from the class compared to other professors. She doesn't load us up with HW; however, when she assigns some, it's a lot. Questions/ Concepts covered in the Lecture/HW make up the exam. Takes attendance at random so go to class. Extra Credit helps grade. She "normalized" our test at the end.
JUST READ THE BOOK!!!!!! DO THE HOMEWORK!! GO TO OFFICE HOURS. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY READ THE BOOK AND GET THE SOLUTION MANUAL FOR PRACTICE PROBLEMS FOR INDEPTH ANSWERS. IF I DID THAT EARLIER I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN AN A, THATS THE REAL HACK PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!
This is a self teach class. She tells us incorrect information majority of the time so definetly utilizies outside resources, she assigns way too much homework but most of it is very helpful. DO THE HOMEWORK! I would not recommend her because she seems to not be knowledgeable but you can definitely pass with minimal effort.
READ THE BOOK BEFORE CLASS. DONT GO INTO CLASS WITH OUT ANY TYPE OF UNDERSTANDING. THE BOOK IS THE CHEAT CODE. DO EVEY PRACTICE PROBLEM IN THE BOOK AND UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT. EVERYTHING BUILDS SO DONT FALL BEHIND AND YOU WILL BE FINE. NICE PROFFESSOR WANTS STUDENTS TO DO WELL! OFFERS HELP AFTER CLASS IN LIBRARY.
You must do all the homework! The homework is majority of the test. Most of the test have questions that answer other questions just flip through. Go to her office hours she will break down the information. She give extra credit for each test that are 10-15 extra points.
Lyles is a great professor. But, I will say this, you MUST work and put in the effort. Do not worry about your current grade on canvas just know if YOU DO THE WORK you will pass. Do not procrastinate on the homework, read the textbook and actually understand what you are doing. She will help you out I promise. Just trust the process.
Mrs. Lyles can come across as intimidating at first but she is really a good professor. you have to take out a significant amount of time to study, do ALL of your assignments and UNDERSTAND what you are learning. she gives extra credit on each exam, but you have to put in work to pass this class. this class is stressful, but you will do fine!
Dr. Lyles is a great professor, i wasn't fond of her teaching style but thats just me personally. Her class is definitely "passable" Just make sure to start the homework as soon as she opens it cause it will be A LOT!
I took her for orgo 1 and it was good but she seemed less present this semester. She canceled class for the first month of the semester. Overall just doesn't seem to care much about her students. Insane amount of hw and exams look like questions from the hw but I wouldn't rely on that. Get all of your work done and study, you should pass.
Took Lyles for Orgo 1 & she was pretty good, but for Orgo 2 she became more disrespectful and lazy while teaching this course. Cancelled class the first month of the semester. Slightly unorganized. LOTS of hw assignments. 4 exams, 25%-60% of the hw makes up the exams, it varies each exam. Her class is passable, just do all assignments & study.
Her lab consisted of notebook assignments, lab reports, pre & post labs, & a final exam (written & practical). After all of the hard work and time contributed to this course, she ended up grading nothing until 3 days before grades posted & gave the whole class a B. Made rude and degrading comments. If you have better options, choose someone else.
Even though Dr.Lyles will not be teaching this class again I think she was an easy professor. You should make an A if you do your labster and come to class. The final will determine your final grade she did not input any grades but let you know what you made at the end of the last lab. She is not a person for email or tech-savvy.
Lyles' Orgo 2 class can be a slog, but stick with it. Attend office hours, complete all homework, and use unstuck AI alongside other study resources - that's the key to passing this course.
Exams are worth a lot (60%) and you definitely have to apply yourself. She's helpful if you go to her and show her you care. She can be very snippy but just brush it off. Shes the better of 2 options and my advice start on the homework early and the written response takes the longest. Don't procrastinate and you'll be okay
I took her for organic chemistry 1 and 2. She assigns a lot of homework but it really does help in understanding the material. Also she uses homework questions on the exams. She hosts studying sessions twice a week that I found helpful.Keep in mind it is difficult material and everyone struggles with it regardless of the professor
Not the greatest attitude. Not very friendly. As a student, she makes you feel bad when you ask her questions. You have at least 200 homework questions per exam. Unfortunately, she is the only Orgo 2 professor for the Spring so I have to take her, but I do not recommend taking her.
