She is one of the best professors ive had in a long time...she is funny, and very helpful...and easy....
Her tests are ridiculously difficult. The wording of the questions is designed to make you feel as if the subject matter is from some other class. She also believes that she is awesome. She has little GTA gestapo patrol girls who are constantly going back and forth to make sure you are focused on the lecture. I wish I had dropped.
Her lectures are clear to me, and while I think it's important to attend class (some test questions come from movies we watch), the thing that will help you pass is by completing the study guide to a T when she posts it online. The wording of her tests is difficult. I aced the first test but failed the second one miserably. She makes people who get a 20/35 or under do tutoring. She's funny and covers the subject well, though. DON'T FALL ASLEEP. She'll humiliate you.
she's realy nice, fun, funny, and engaging. Her tests are a little hard and if you don't pay attention in her class like sleeping or using your cellphone she'll call you out infront of the whole class. But other than that she totally rocks! get her if you can!
She is smart, funny, engaging and extremely amiable, just as long as you come and pay attention everyday. I highly recommend her to anyone. She's pretty generous in grading, and she usually allots you some notes during tests. Over all, She Rocks!!
She dose a remarkable job covering a broad area and keeping it intresting. I also like that she tests from lecture.
MF Lynch is a decent teacher, but is distracted easily and frequently makes obscene jokes that are distracting.
Dr. Lynch is really really interested in psycholoy and it shows in her teaching. Her tests are challenging but she offers tutoring. Go to class and review her study guides and youll be fine. She's funny too, which can be distracting but is a nice change to boring teachers.
Very interesting class. She can be funny. Uses some film. Attendance, although not taken, is necessary b/c tests r soley based on lectures. 4 exams + optional final 2 replace 1 grade, all multiple choice + easy research requirement (participate in studies n go 2 workshops). Good study guides n tutoring available (Michelle's awesome). Recommended.
She is GREAT! I loved the class, very interesting. She's funny and sweet. Highly recommended.
Dr Lynch is the biggest dork. I just go to class to see what antics she has set up for that day. Very easy class if you study. Page of notes for midterms. Can't beat that.
She is not as great as people said. She is unhelpful, unclear during her lectures. Totally feel like unprepared when I was taking the exam or quizzes.
She's hilarious but her lectures can lag. just try not to fall asleep in her class. and the quizzes are easy if you study for them, just don't memeorize a buncha defenitions cuz thet won't help

I enjoyed this class. She makes lectures interesting. Go to class...the stuff from the lectures is on the tests. You can have a one sided page of notes for each test---take advantage of this!! Also, she posts study guides for each test online--use these too..they really help.
Lynch is a great professor. She makes her students laugh everyday. She is also able to catch people who aren't paying attention or sleeping in a class of 700 students! watch out! Her tests are a bit challanging, but if you use your brain and had paid attention in class, they can be easy.
i liked this class. tests aren't that bad if you study the study guides she gives you. no hw other than a research project that isnt too hard. you can probably pass without going to class and if you do go just don't fall asleep or use your cell phone or laptop cuz she'll call you out on it in mckenna.
horrible. just sitting through the class was about as fun as getting your wisdom teeth pulled. i ended up getting a B+ so i guess i don't have that much to complain about. and i put absolutly no effort into studying - so the class is technically easy...but i'd rather have a more challenging class thats actually interesting
This class was great. She is very funny and breaks down the information so you can understand it. The tests are a little hard, but you do get to bring a cheat sheet with you.
AVOID THIS TEACHER. The test questions are very different. They are not from the book nor the lecture!
I didnt like the class. Dr. Lynch is nice and funny, but i dont think that she is a good teacher. The class was way to big for anyone to learn anything. Her tests were hard, and didnt really cover what she talked about. Only take this class if you have to for your major!
o margaret lynch. she's way to smart for her own good. lectures aren't mandatory but she does write exams based on them as well as the videos. its a good idea to attend class. nevermind her loosing her glasses atop her head!
This woman is awesome!! She is so funny, she says the craziest things!! I really enjoyed her class, she kept it very interesting, and the time always flew by. The tests are hard. I study non stop in preparing for them. I really wanted to get an A, but I didn't quite make it. :( Even though her tests are hard, I definitely recommend this class
Hella rude, thinks she knows everything. She obviously doesn't care about the individual student and their issues, just trying to have something to do with her days and make a buck. She is definitely her own biggest fan.
She's amazing... really funny. Its easy to get a good grade in her class... do your research paper soon, it'll be worth it. Don't write down what she puts up on the overhead, write what comes out of her mouth especially examples... it will help you on the test
This teacher is my favorite teacher at SFSU. She is so nice, informative, passionate about her teaching, funny, and all around interesting. The best thing is that she isn't one of those push-over teachers where you get an easy A. You definitely need to work and study for this class. If you want a GOOD teacher, then take her classes.

This class was absolutely wonderful and for a psychology class I found it to be relatively easy. Only four exams, an optional final, and an easy research requirement (as long as you don't procrastinate!). The teacher was very knowledgable, funny, and really a joy to listen to. Don't miss class, write down notes and examples she gives
She was awesome!!!!! She's very nice and interesting. One of the best GE classes I've ever taken!
If you want a good grade go to lecture cause that way you will catch little things that aren't mentioned in the text. Follow the syllabus and read before you go to class cause sometimes she has a lot of info and goes fast. Generally easy. if you can rejurgatate facts you can get an a and not die of boredom in the class
I learned a lot and had fun. She is very entertaining and very intelligent. I used the book online and only read it before the test. The tests are relatively easy and are solely based off the study guide plus you get a page of notes. I would reccomend this class
Excellent Class. I loved it. The tests are hard if you dont go to class. Almost everything on the test is said in the lecture. She is very funny and entertaining. Liberal grading curve
Don't miss class!! This class was interesting, but her exams are a bit ambiguous. If you're not good at correlating scenarios with given mutliple choices, your doomed!! Some multiple choice answers can be a bit askew. Just do your best on the exams. As for the research paper, make sure you include EVERYTHING that is required. Good luck!
She rambles on about information thats not needed. The testsdont follow the study guides. The <optional> final along w/ the rest of her tests are rediculous. Her tests dont use proper grammer but she expects you to use it in your paper. The term paper is a joke. She had to curve the class to the point that a 53% was a passing C. Avoid this class!
Run for your lives!! At least that's what my friend did. Stupid me, I thought I could pass the class with a good grade. Didn't happen. No...the teacher expected her students to do well on her exams and research paper that she did not clearly go over. If you want a good grade in the class, make sure you taunt her to the point you both go crazy.

i love love love this woman!!! the class is a little difficult... and you really need to take good notes and study them.. and pay attention... but as a professor she is the S*IT!! Hilarious and ALWAYS available. great teacher.. wack ass class.
The best grades I received on her tests, I guessed. Study guides are pointless, as the book is. Just go to lecture and take notes, and that's enough studying you'll need. She's hilarious as a person and open to questions, though she won't hesitate to embarass the s* outta you...so stay awake!
I absolutely did not like this class at all. There was nothing wrong with the teacher, but the tests suck, and the final was completely bogus. (I did never really go to class, though)
80% of tests is directly from lectures. Take note of her examples. Dr. Lynch is an amazing lecturer. She keeps it fun. Great survey class, covers lots. Really read the test questions carefully!
she's a pretty good professor. her tests are easy if you go to class everyday and take notes. the only bad thing is that she goes through the notes pretty fast so when you take notes make sure you can short hand a lot of things.
She lectures at a fairly brisk pace, so if you're a student who likes to take their time copying notes, this class is not for you. She covers the material well, and if you attend lecture every day you'll do fine on the test, for most of the test material comes from the lecture, not the book.
GET THIS TEACHER! Professor Lynch is hilarious! It was so easy to pay attention in her class. She offers many study sessions which are extremely helpful. Study guides before all of her tests. Be careful of the wording though, she does try to trick you. I highly highly recommend her.
Dr.Lynch is incredibly passionate about pyschology and makes the subject fun and interesting. Her lectures are fast but packed full of information. I survived by recording the lectures and reviewing them while preparing my study guide. Dr Lynch is one of the best dressed teachers on campus. She is stunning.
Dr. Lynch is a great professor! She uses up to date examples, even those in famous names (Flavor Flav, Britney spears) she explains things clearly and offers tutoring
I love Dr. Lynch. She's so sweet and her lectures are so easy to pay attention too. She uses a lot of helpful examples and speaks VERY clearly (enunciates like you wouldnt believe). She has a research requirement thats a lot of fun. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!
so interesting! so intelligent! take her class, i love her!
kind of a hard class especially if you don't do the readings. you don't really need to go to class but you definitely need to read the text. gives study guides, 4 exams (1 optional final if you're grade is suffering which most likely it will be) and one paper/project thing. cool teacher but difficult.
this class was interesting. class is not mandatory but its good to go because the examples she uses in class is sometimes on the test. sometimes class is boring but overall it was great. dr. lynch is funny. i recommend. =)
absolutely loved this class. She is so funny and intelligent. She makes you want to come to class. The class is easy just pay attention to what she says because the stuff she points out from her notes is on the test.Just makes sure you do the research because the points will help. I would recommend her to anyone. Very enjoyable.
Great lecturer. Her exams are a little tough but as long as you keep up with the reading, you should be ok. She has one exam each month but she gives you a study guide to help you prepare and allows front page notes. very fast paced. be prepared to take a lot of notes. exams mostly based on text.
Her class is veryy easy. She gives font page notes on exams. There are 4 exams total and an optional final. Her exams are mostly based on the text so keep up with your reading, and make sure you pay attention to what she says most of the time, instead of the notes she puts up. Some of her lectures will be on the exam. Overall very easy.
HARD CLASS. lectures are hard to pay attention to since class has about 800 people in it. Notes on the overhead are useless. Study guides never helped me study for the 4 exams. no homework. I found the book pretty useless and the tests have A LOT of information that you need to know on them. i hated this class.
this class isnt as easy or great as how people describe it.not worth taking if you really want to learn psyc.too many people & the grade is based on 4 exams and a research project which is not even worth doing.to get a good grade, need to ace exams. the book was totally useless.the teacher doesnt even know u. I WONT TAKE THIS CLASS IF I WERE U!!
I LOVE THIS WOMAN. She is an amazing professor and really inspired my love of psychology. You need to put a lot of effort into her class in order to do well, but she is very helpful (take the time to visit her in office) and offers tutoring. The research project isn't as hard as people say it is, just don't wait til the last minute!
She was okay. Test is what makes up your grade. Only 4 test and final was NOT mandatory. Test were basically examples of definitions. And you get a whole paper for your study guide. Her class isn't that interesting though.
This teacher was awesome! her teaching style was great and you can USE a sheet of notes for the exams and she gives study guides for the exam, how much easier can it get?? It's really easy if you attend class.
Lectures are interesting and fun. She always somehow gets the class involved and laughing. she's passionate and always knows that shes talking about it. she's great.
really funny professor! she makes a lot of jokes that are unexpected. go to class because she TESTS ON CONCEPTS NOT DEFINITIONS so it is helpful if you learn the examples in class. i didnt really use my book, only for reference on something i missed in notes. 4 tests, optional final,& a research paper. pretty easy. she always wears the cutest shoes!
I switched my major to psych b/c of her. she is as amazing as everyone says. 4 tests, with optional final to sub one test, 3 2pg papers due together (really easy), everything in the book but the class is amazing, gives study guides and posts test answers online the day of, i've been studying like crazy and i'm only getting a B but i love it
She gives a clear guideline on the first day of class about the expectations. You can get to know her better personally if you take her Psy 299 class for an extra 2 credits in which you do CSL, a 1 pg paper and a meeting once a week. She also gives tutoring sessions before the 299 classes, in which she can answer the whole study guide if you ask.
I was in her class of 700 & it was a COMPLETE waste of a semester! We had to write a research paper for her- I worked for weeks on it, my grammer & content were exactly what she asked for and she gave me 5 points out of 25 just because my "margins were too big".I failed the class & she didnt even read or look at my work.A lot of people failed too.
She Doesn't care about the students or what they have to say or the time they put into her assignments. If you try to talk to her in person she is completely single minded. She knows her subject, but off stage she does not want to hear what you have to say.
I cannot stand this woman. She is fake nice and intimidating to speak with. Testing situation is not suitable for students i.e. large classroom, limited space, and TA's that talk amongst themselves loudly while taking the test. The lectures were boring.
It wasnt an interesting class and I dreaded going. The professor seemed full of herself, but despite all the negatives I have said bout her, she isnt a horrible professor. She is very knoweldgable of the subject and I cant complain caz she gave me a B+ and I thought I was only going to get a solid B! :)
She's amazing!! lectures were interesting. unexpectedly funny, dont fall asleep in class the book and attendance are mandatory, take great notes, but dont forget to listen, she tests concepts not definitions, and her door is always open, highly recomended!!!
Go to class! Great lecture, fair tests, and simple research paper. Do the study guide for exams since notes are allowed and start your paper early and make sure you have two pages for each of the three papers. Content not so important as long as it is an ok length.
I love this woman. She is so intelligent and she cares so much about psychology. She is also fabulously stylish. Take advantage of her office hours, she has so much to offer you!
4 exams, all have clear study guides for. there are also study sessions which are beneficial if you really missed/ don't understand concepts in lectures. 1 project throughout the entire semester...just a couple of 2 page papers which she'd give you full credit on if you just basically write it.
I seriously loved waking up and going to this class. Professor Lynch is so in love with psychology and it shows in her mannerisms and teaching style. Be sure to go to class and take good notes because she lets you have "cheat sheets" for the tests. Excellent class. I would take her again in a heartbeat!
Professor Lynch is delightful. Clearly she won't be for everyone, but she is exceedingly personable and entertaining. She teaches Human Factors old school?with no PowerPoint? just lectures. Attending class is a must if you want to do well. I find her to be very motivating, due to her bright mind, and sharp wit.
Great teacher, listen to lecture and write the stuff down she explains with the lecture notes. It helps a lot. She gives those essays for EC make sure you do them. And study Guide do them. Helps a lot. great class, and interesting.
i love her!! she is so funny and makes me want to go to class! the exams are hard and you have to study but its worth it. i would recommend it for sure!!
Oh what to say about The Lady Herself. I am in love with this woman. Too bad she is 59 years old and married. She loves psychology and I want to be just like her when I am her age. She is a fascinating person and makes me laugh a whole lot in class. I admire her. I do well because of this and I go to class everyday. Take notes on examples not facts
Dr Lynch is awesome! If psychology is something that interest you this is a great class. She is very interesting and entertaining at the same time. You need to take time to study for the test and there are always many tutors to help. I highly recommend this class.
So funny and entertaining. She really knows her stuff and is passionate about the subject. HUGE lecture hall and you don't have to go to lectures, but it makes the tests so much easier. Definitely a class to study for. The textbook is challenging to absorb, so take notes in lecture and you should be fine. Highly recommended!
Nice lady but a very hard teacher!!! for a beginning psych class I found it to be extremely difficult. I think she trys to make the class harder than it needs to be.
Prof Lynch is one of the sweetest people ever; she will help you not only with class but will listen to you about outside things as well. Attendance is not mandatory (the class is HUGE) but it helps so much on the exams. I rarely went and got a B, but would have gotten an A if I attended more class. 4 exams, research project, and an optional final!
Awesome teacher. She has a very interesting class and teaches things in a clear and inspiring fashion. The only thing is that the tests require you to study a lot, mostly from the book but some from lecture. I got an A in the class because I studied well ahead of test dates and did so diligently. Take this class, it will teach you so much.
I extrememly disliked this professor! She's annoying and seems so fake. The midterms are pretty hard, and attendance is not mandatory. I never bought the book, never had to use it. I would recommend not buying it, a waste of money. I didn't pass the class.. but i didn't really try that hard. if you work hard.. you'll should be fine.
She's pretty cool. REad the other 200 comments to see how she is.
Professor Lynch is hard, but helpful. She lets you drop the lowest test & lets you have a one page cheat sheet (even for the final). If you want to pass the class then you shouldnt miss alot of classes because she covers alot in lecutes. Do the research project in the beginning so you are not cramming for it in the end. Textbook was was big help
I only showed up for the tests, the tests were hard as hell, you can't just skim or know definitions. There is a research report which is a pain, I did everything but I wrote 1 3/4 instead of 2 and she gave me a 5/25, it is totally unreasonable, illogical, and unfair. So bottom line is, if you go to class, study hard,do the paper right, you'll be ok.
She's a good teacher. She likes to crack jokes here n' there. There are some boring days, but for the most part its an interesting class and goes by super quick. The exams are a little confusing, but she drops the lowest one. I started the project 2 days before it was due & got full credit. No hmwk, no need to attend, TAKE CLASS!
She is such a sweetheart! She made psychology a really interesting class. I admit I didn't attend every lecture but I still pulled off an A! 4 midterms (lines get long FAST) with study guides posted online. You can bring a cheat sheet but I only used it for things like anatomy of the ear and which psychologist believed in what. Take her!
Totally awesome! lectures are fun and interesting. She brings in a worldly perspective so you learn a lot. great teacher! take the class! especially if your a psych major :DDD
very interesting lectures, but you don't even have to really attend the class if you don't want to, i did about half the time and got an A. and plus she's super cool and made me really interested in psych. take this class.
Class is very easy, if you put the work into it. You are allowed a cheat sheet in exams, but wont do you any good. The exams are about application of what you learned rather than definitions. Go to class, do your readings, and you will get an A without any problem.
This class is ok but the teacher is another story. She rants on and on sometimes. Her lectures have nothing to do with the tests. Yes you get a cheat sheet but they don't help AT ALL. Not much work, so if you don't do well on your tests and papers you're screwed!
Very good class if you put the work into it. Attendance is not mandatory but it's better if you go because she goes over whatever is going to be on the test. Take a lot of notes because most of the answers for the study guide questions are said in lecture. I recommend bringing a laptop to take good notes because she talks pretty quickly.
The Lady Herself is who I want to be when I am 59. For real now. Margaret F Lynch, I look up to you.
why do people like her? tells stupid jokes have TA's that flock in search of cell phones so they can take away points and she is moody all the time calling people out in a class with 700 students! tests arent horrible but its crowded and feels uncomfortable. Horrible!!!
Dr. Lynch is an amazing and knowledgeable professor. She does call students out but that is only for their own good because they have this sense of entitlement that they should be able to talk all they want, annoy other students around them and still get an A. Quite frankly, I like having the TAs around because they shut the annoying students up.
SPECTACULAR professor. I highly recommend Dr. Lynch. One of the best, most interesting courses offered at SFSU.
Fantastic professor and class, made me consider the psych major. Lecture is interesting if you feel like going, but its not required. Tests are tricky, she words some questions weird but if you read the book its not bad. Reading definitely helps for the tests. Follow the paper guidelines EXACTLY for an easy A. I got an A- no problem.
Entered class as a psychology major, left as an English major. It felt like she focused on unimportant and trivial theories, then just skimmed through the stuff people would actually care about. I don't feel like I learned as much as I could had there been a different teacher. At the same time, though, she had study sessions 5 days a week.
Really, really interesting class! A lot of the things I learned about psychology, even though I'm not a psych major, still stick with me. She's just awesome to watch. Her sense of humor is also very entertaining. Seriously, an excellent intro to psychology. But beware: tests are hard. You have to study. Even if you're a smarty pants like me.
Dr. Lynch was an awesome professor! She knows her stuff and you can tell she enjoys teaching it. The only drawback to taking this class is the size. It is too big to have any kind of discussion, and the topics covered are really interesting (especially psychopatholgy!) Come to the lectures and take notes, read the book, and you'll do fine.
I thought that attending class was not necessary. The teacher was hard to follow sometimes, and a lot of the things on the test are from the textbook and not from class. Make a bomb 1 page of notes that she allows and you should be alright as long as you have read a little about each topic.
Her class was challenging but it kept you thinking. I found it to be very interesting but you have to really want an A to get one. My girlfriend did just that and she studied twice as much as I did (and I studied quite a bit). Also, there's over 700 kids in the class. Going to class really helps, but she'll kick out people with cell phones.
I hated this class. I have always been interested in psychology until i came to her class. It's not mandatory to attend her classes because she doesn't even talk about material... she usually went on random rants. When she did go over notes, it wasn't worth writing down because she short hands everything and doesn't explain it one bit.
Her class is so hard! I studied harder for her tests than I have in any class, and I couldn't get higher than a C on them!! However the research requirement often can bump your grade up one full letter. Also, it being a general psych class, it doesn't go too in depth about things so you're often left wondering about a lot.
unfair and inconsistent grader. interesting material though, and funny. seems scatterbrained.
People who are giving her low rates didn't know how to take her class. First time I failed, second time I took notes on her examples instead of definitions and got an A-! Stop saying she goes off subject, they are examples to help you! I loved this class! She is hilarious!
prof lynch has a lot knowledge in psychology but when it comes down to all her tests its difficult to get a high grade. i studied night and day for that class and barely passed with a C-. her study guide does not help what so ever, so its pointless to do it. you basically have to write down everything she says on paper and review it to pass this cl
Good teacher. Nice lady and hilarious. Interesting lectures. Very easy going when it comes to tests and essays. Doesn't require reading the chapters, which makes it better because you end up listening to her a lot more.
She's a very cool lady, entertaining and she's knows what she's talking about. Her lectures aren't always terribly clear but overall she's good.
this is class is hard, write down notes on examples on not just definitions. this is most important! you have to UNDERSTAND the material to pass the tests. experiment was frustrating..if you procrastinate it will be for you too. its easy to do in 2 weeks tops! so just do it before. love how she is though, she must have been really hot younger
Of course the topic itself is unfamiliar to many of us. That can be a reason, but whatever the reason is...don't take her class. I heard she is good in teaching general psy though...No power point and no lecture note provided.
VERY HARD! dont want to scare people, but her class is hard. I studied like crazy and i couldnt even get a B. She is a entertaining professor, but her exams are a killer. multiple choice exam, answers were very similar, and you must UNDERSTAND, the material and not justcopy down definitions into the cheat sheet.
hard class, she's kinda sexy though ;)
Lynch is an extremely interesting and funny woman. She makes the subject very intriguing and connects various aspects of Psychology to each other. This is a recommended teacher and course to take. Lynch keeps it interesting by relating to her students lifestyles by bringing up topics of sex, drugs, and alcohol multiple times during her lectures.
Don't take her class. I consider myself as someone who puts an effort and time to the materials, but I would recommend no one to take her class after all.
This class is a lot of fun. If you go to class and really understand the material, you should do fine on her exams. She grades fairly and only counts 4 of a total 5 exams (so you dont *have* to take the final if you're satisfied with your grade). I highly recommend her as a teacher.
She is an interesting teacher. However, i would not recommend this teacher. Her grading is fair, curve wise. This is because failing every test can result in getting a C or higher guaranteed. However, she expects people to understand, and understand completely. I studied long and hard, for hours, and even days before the test. i ended with a B-.
She tries to connect with her students by saying sexual jokes for the first multiple weeks. I felt this was very unprofessional. I go to class to learn, not to connect with my professor. You need to take notes on everything she says, and read the book. Not an easy "A".
Dr. Lynch's class is not the easiest. She is interesting to listen to during lecture. I found her jokes funny, but too sexual at times. You really need to attend lectures and read the book. Her tests are hard and a little confusing. Over all an enjoyable class, but be prepared to study for a long time for her tests.
Pay close attention, and TAKE NOTES on what she says (examples are most important). Tests are applied knowledge. Gives a situation and asks what type of psychology it is. It is quite a difficult course, but you will learn a lot. She is the most knowledgable prof. I've had. Very entertaining and kind...but don't use your phone in class :p
Liked psychology :) Class went by quick from her class. NO homework, 1 research paper, 4-5 exams. My advice for anyone taking her: GO TO TUTORING! Many students do go to her tutoring sessions, and they actually do help you by giving you examples and clarification from the study guide for the exams. I just passed the class, so I think you can too.
It's easy to have the sores shown when you have 700 kids to review you.Big class,I fell sleep and never really wanted to go-and I enjoy psychology.Th grades are majorly curved so it's difficult not to PASS(even though most tests make you feel like you're going to fail.)
Lynch was a pretty cool teacher. However, her class itself was pretty tough; you have to work for your grade. You have about 4 exams (multiple choice) which are all based on the textbook readings. You also have a 6 page research paper to do, but it wasn't hard. Overall, just READ and STUDY the chapters and you'll do fine.
GREAT TEACHER. She is funny and interesting. She knows her stuff! Study hard for the tests, you will get a B. Attendance is not mandatory but helps A LOT.
Nice teacher and easy class.
It's an okay class and she's entertaining; however, you'll mostly learn through the reading you do for her class.
I skipped this class so much, if you do the study guide you'll do well, her teacher's aid is a jerk though! This class was okay. Good teacher, and funny =)
Only used the book a few times when i didn't get to jot down the notes. It helps to go to her class and write everything down.tutoring is mandatory if you get 18 or lower on her exams. a total of 5(final optional)exams, 35 questions, she drops the lowest so you only need to take the first 4.Cheat sheet allowed.6 page paper, really easy to do.
Really awesome professor. The class size was a distraction for me , but other than that professor lynch cares so much about the success and well being of her students. If you show up to class and pay attention to her lectures then tests are very easy. Study guides were somewhat helpful but like I said being in class and paying attention to the lectures is what will help you the most in my opinion
Professor Lynch is hilarious! She is a very nice person, but the class was difficult.
Nice teacher! Her lectures are sometimes really interesting. Make sure to take note of the examples in class b/c they will help you w/ the exams. The class requirement project is also pretty interesting and have the whole semester to finish but it takes some work.
I can see why certain students are rubbed the wrong way by Dr. Lynch, but it is because they take her comments too personally. I thought she was nice, honest, and knew her stuff. You do need to do your own group research project with poster presentation (which was a lot) but I can write one heck of an APA paper now thanks to her-gets you prepared!
one giant project throughout the course, 6 POP quizes, her lectures tend to talk about things that little relation to your project, and very unclear of assignments, just telling us that its due and not the specifics.
Exams are lecture based, but the lectures are pretty useless. I suggest taking notes of her examples, rather than what she puts on the overhead (mostly terms/concepts). The average exam grade was always a D+, so she curved. She takes attendance randomly (and it DOES count for ur grade), so show up. Do GREAT on the group project and you'll be okay.
Had her twice. My comment for 400 was actually 463. SO, here, I'll rate 400. There's 6 pop quizzes (average grade C-) & she takes attendance randomly, so show up even though her lectures are useless. 10 homework assignments - if you get a good TA they can help a lot. You can re-do HW's & recover 80% of the deficit points. Group project counts a lot
Read the book!!! the notes she has on the slides are 100 percent compatible with the book and the assigned chapters. Also go to tutoring it's so easy and you can get a lot of help. Tests are kind of difficult just make sure to actually read!!
Read the textbook before hand! Her lectures are pretty interesting and she clears up anything from the book that is confusing. She relates a lot of things to sex which is amusing. 6 page paper was not too bad. Get help from the graduate students for sure! Very strict about laptop and cellphone policy. 1 pt away from a B- & they gave me the B-.
Prof. Lynch is a very nice woman, but her lectures are confusing and unclear. The worst part is if you fail the class, you have to take it else where. The quizzes are based upon the examples in the textbook rather than the actual definition. There are 4 quizzes and a mandatory final. Do the research project correctly and that will boost up yourgrad
This class was extremely unhelpful. The only way to get a good grade was to read the book completely. The lectures were confusing and extensive. The TA's that lurked up and down the isles ruined class-they were distracting and rude. Especially Charlie. We are NOT in high school. Treat us like adults.
If you are good at learning most material on your own, then this class will be pretty easy. Her tests are not exact definitions and sometimes contradict what she says in class. I would especially stay away from the class because of the TAs. They are distracting and annoying. Especially charlie and some red haired russian chick who is out for blood.
Dr. Lynch is pretty much a female version of Gandalf who knows everything about psychology. One of the best profs in the psych department and also one of the most entertaining. Go to class, read the book, go to tutoring if you need help, and just do a clear job of fallowing the directions on the papers= get an A and learn a lot of cool stuff.
By having her 10 TA's walk around and interrupt class just to stop someone from texting is unnecessary. I like her exams because you actually have to understand the concepts but it doesnt help that there can be more than two possible answer to a multiple choice exam. I studied for every exam yet had to attend mandatory tutoring everytime b/c of thi
She is very funny and often cracks jokes, which makes her lectures interesting. She does tend to go off topic when she is talking. Goes through the material very quickly, so you will have to rely on the book to study for tests. Four exams, all multiple choice, and fairly easy. Three research papers, which were also easy.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS, IF you live in US a free country. Mr. Lynch militarize the class with TA's which look students as inferiors to them. This teacher is crazy, ignorant about life, and she believes she is superior to anybody she seems to think that enforcing control with the students, she satisfy her trauma to have power... CONTINUE.....
BELIEVE ME, don't believe in nice reviews about this class. most of them are NOT true. Those students just want that you suffer same as them. THIS CLASS IS VERY VERY VERY HARD, time consuming, study hard and barely pass the class. She uses very confused examples for similar situations. Study guides ARE NOT helpful. YOUR KNOWLEDGE is your best guide
save your self the time and effort by NOT TAKING THIS CLASS!!.. you would think psychology is interesting, but its not!.. the teacher is very useless, and the class is too big for anyone to know whats going on.. and the TA's interrupt class for a stupid cell phone. The lectures dont help for tests AT ALL! and the tests are unbelievably hard!
lectures were so BORIIIIING!! but i did learn a lot. tests were kind of hard so make sure to study and understand the concepts and terms.
Lectures are so boring. Didn't go half the time. I'm gonna be honest, I didn't study for ANY of the exams. Basically just winged it. Had to do one report towards the end of semester. Aced it. TA's are like hawks during lecture, will scold you if you fall asleep or are on your phone. But they're helpful during tutoring. Passed with a C.
Prof. Lynch is a fine teacher. Very easy to relate to, and available for help outside class. She elaborates well on material and uses concrete examples. Variety of assignments including a fun group project.
Dr. Lynch is a really nice teacher especially if you have trouble in the class.
this class was pretty easy to pass. I hardly ever went and I still got a B- without taking the extra credit final. its easy to pass the class if you cram for the tests the night before.
The class consisted of 4 exams and 1 project. The exams are difficult and relate more to the book than the lectures. The class was interesting and worth taking but you have to really study and put effort into it.
Going to class is pointless except if videos are shown because tests are based mainly on the textbook. For tests you can have a cheat sheet, but even then the exams are difficult. The class is huge and lecture-based, so it's hard to stay interested or even awake. Be warned though--she has TAs to make sure you're not on your phone or sleeping.
You don't need to go to class. I went maybe a total of 7 times and I got an A. Her lectures are confusing and it's hard to pay attention in such a large class setting. As long as you read the textbook and understand it, you'll do fine.
Great lecturer, she knows her stuff! The class is so big it's easy to skip and you can pass the tests by reading just the study guide and textbook alone. The biggest downside is her crazy strict rules - if you even so much as glance at your cell phone, a TA will catch you and raise their hand and she will actually stop her lecture to reprimand you in front of 700 people. Do NOT fall asleep in her class. Her TAs patrol the aisles the entire time and take off points if they catch you.
Great lecturer, she knows her stuff! The class is so big it's easy to skip and you can pass the tests just by reading the study guides and textbook alone. The biggest downside is her crazy strict rules - her TAs patrol the aisles and she will stop a lecture just to humiliate you for having your cell phone out or falling asleep.
She is a really good teacher and follows the text book really closely. Do the reading and you will be fine. Get project done early so that you do not have to stress about it. 4 exams, research project, and an optional final. Do and understand the reading and you'll get an A.
4 exams and an optional final that may replace one of your exams. her exams is 35 questions and is tricky! u can use one side notes and she gives study guides which is rarely helpful for the exam. u have to take notes while she speaks because she only put up the key terms.
The tests are very tricky so you'll need to understand each term from the textbook. I recommend taking the final to replace your lowest score.
Her class is definitely not easy yet her way of teaching is very interesting. I recommend those students who is going to take her MUST read their textbook for sure! if not, you will miss out lots of information that's going to be on her test.
the no cell phone/laptops policy is kinda ridiculous. she will stop a class of 700 and embarass you if you are eating, sleeping, on a laptop, or cell phone. cmon this isn't middle school, this is college.
she goes off into so many tangents during lecture. if you dont read the (3 or 4) chapters in the textbook, expect a fail. the class average is under a D and i find that crazy. THIS IS NOT GENERAL ED.. THIS IS ADVANCED PSYCH. RECOMMENDED FOR MAJOR CLASS.. NOT GENERAL ED!!!!!
This is the hardest class i have ever taken. Her tests are TRICKY! YOU NEED TO READ THE TXT BOOK IN ORDER TO DO GOOD. HER STUDY GUIDES DO NOT HELP AT ALL!
This is the hardest class I have ever taken, by far. The course description says general psychology, but in my opinion it is far from it. She will stop lecture to call people out for using their cell phone or if they're talking. Also, she feels the need to have a million t.a.'s who hover like helicopters and treat us like we're little kids.
She is an AWESOME professor, really knows her stuff. There's only four tests, a final, and a research paper thats easier than you think. Her tests are based on lecture+textbook so you need to understand the material well. The TAs are really nice so get to know them- going to tutoring will really help. Got an B and still glad I took the class.
Buy a recorder so you can review what she says in the lecture. If you match it with the study guides, the textbook, and go to tutoring, it'll really help with the tests as they are based on understanding the material. Despite how "difficult" it was, it was seriously really interesting. The hard work pays off.
Those who say it is a very difficult class are only partially correct. It is a challenge if you are new to psychology, but there is no excuse to fail the course. The proper way to study is to pay attention to all examples. Tutoring is also there to help you. Classes like these help you in college in the long run. I totally recommend.
She is a great professor. Her tests are challenging, so make sure you study for them. She is really approachable and answers any questions you may have. Although it's a lecture class, she makes the subjects you cover really interesting and it's hard to be bored in her class.
I had to retake her class twice. The first I understand because I didn't try as hard. But the 2nd time around I tried to my fullest ability. That woman "claimed" to have not turned my paper in on time. Her tests are ridiculous. Her class does NOT belong in a General Ed class! I hope you know you killed me dreams, I'm Vegas to become a stripper!
Tests are VERY hard. I studied so much but still couldn't manage to get a B in the class. The Research Papers assignment dropped everyone's grades down so much, so obviously the requirements were not made clear. Unfortunately if you need to take this class, Lynch is the only teacher! So you have no choice.
This class is tough, i'm not gonna lie. The test due require some studying and i recommend going to tutoring. Overall not impossible to pass
Lynch's class was DIFFICULT! You need to come to class everyday in order to understand what she's teaching. Her tests require you to fully understand the material so that you can apply them to examples on the test. You need to study a lot in her class if you want to do well in it.
The material that you learn in this class is very interesting, but her tests are awfully hard. The required research paper wasn't that bad. Seriously, like all you had to do was FOLLOW the instructions on the guidelines. I'm surprised so many people did bad on it. If you were confused, you should've went in to get help during office hours.
I agree with people who say that this class should be a major class rather than a general ed class. It's way too difficult to be a general ed class. I find it ridiculous that there's only ONE general psych class. There should be several sections and different professors teaching. I can't believe I managed to get a B+ in that difficult class!YEE! :)
This is potentially the hardest, most ridiculous class i have ever taken. Her tests are unclear, and are used to trick the student instead of determining their actual knowledge of the information being taught.
The exams are the hardest part about this class but I only attended class 4 times the whole semester and still managed to get a B+. I was pissed tho cuz I was 3 pts away from an A and she did not even email me back about my concern. WHatever, overall pretty lame class. If you don't go just make detailed study guide before exams.
I stressed over this class so much. I wish I knew it was a curved class but didn't find out until the last few days. I spent hours studying & making a cheat sheet, which didn't help much at all. What she says contradicts some of the book. And it is extremely hard to stay awake in her class. I managed to get a C+ though I was 3 points away from a B-
Her lectures are very long and boring and she gets off topic a lot. Her tests are REALLY HARD! But she has you do three research essay which will curve your test grades if you do bad on them. If you take her class take notes on the examples she talks about in class not the overhead projector. You MUST attend class or you will be very behind!
very inconsiderate teacher. doesn't allow people to reschedule their final when grieving over friends they've lost during the semester.
This woman is incredibly disrespectful to her students. She is condescending and treats everyone like high school kids, then expects them to act like grown ups. It's very frustrating to hear her constantly interrupt herself to wake people up or tell them to turn off their phones in a 700 person class. I don't understand why people like this teach.
She is a very fair teacher but her tests are very challenging. Allowed to bring one page of notes but a lot of the material on test is from lecture. Use the tutoring service that she offers. Great lady with hilarious stories but difficult EXAMS
Idk why people find this class hard. I got A's on my exams just by taking good notes, coming to class, paying attention and reading the book. Also, the tutors are very helpful and I go there a few days before the exam. AND SHE CURVES OUR GRADES! Lynch is pretty funny but sassy. She catches those who sleep/text/talk. So beware.
A sassy clever teacher. Class really isn't that hard if you take time to study the material. Information may be difficult to grasp for some students, but she provides a curved grading system, allows cheat sheets for exams, provides study guides on her site, and provides tutoring during office hours.
Fun, informative, interesting. Fair grading, open to comments/questions. Highly recommend~
Only graded on 5 tests and a research requirement. If you fall behind it is hard to catch back up. The tests are hard so study study study. However, I loved her as a professor and she is a brilliant mind. Definitely want to take a different class besides PSY 200 taught by her.
She's a lively, funny, and extremely intelligent women. Her course is difficult, but as long as you show up and STUDY you should be fine! There really is no excuse for failing. She gives you study guides, cheat sheets for exams, and grades on a curve. I'm definitely never bored in that class.
Yes she may be energetic...but this class was just way too difficult for a GE course. Exams were very stressful and tedious. SFSU should definitely create more psych classes!
exams were waaaay too hard! i would practically die of nervousness and stress trying to prepare for them. DO NOT take this class if you're an anxious person or you'll basically suffer.
This should definitely not be considered a GE class. Her tests are basically designed to trick you into not getting the right answer no matter how much you study. She constantly goes off topic in class and barely covers all the material that is going to be on each exam. Unless you NEED this class DO NOT TAKE IT.
Agreed; this should not be a GE class. It is so hard to do well on her tests. And the Research Journals she makes you do are such a b****. Unless you are really into psychology take this class, otherwise...don't.
Fantastic professor but the class is HARD HARD HARD! Her lectures are AMAZINGLY enjoyable; just study study study your little nose off and you will pass!
i took ap psy in high school and it made her class easier because i was already taught the material. reading the book is helpful in her tests but of course its too much to read(look for important things). the research she wants you to do is easy. her grading is on a curve :).
Definitely the hardest class I have taken this semester. Even though I have done most of the study guides, I received a C in the class, which is barely passing. The examples that she used for each idea helped, but in the exams there were so many questions where two answers would be quite similar. Don't take this class unless you absolutely have to.
Such a hard class for GE! Although graded on a curve, her exams have tricky questions. If you just want to memorize everything, think again. It's all concept based. Watch out, Lynch can be rude. Her TAs walk up & down the aisles, watching you like a hawk to see if you're sleeping, talking, or using the phone. I felt like I was in grade school!!!
Professor Lynch is an extremely intelligent woman. Her lectures are interesting and funny. Her exams are very tricky and requires a lot of studying and thought, but they're not impossible to pass as long as you read the book. Research paper and optional final really help. also, i recommend recording her lectures and READING the book!!
Dr.Lynch is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. class isn't easy but very interesting. Notes is a must if you plan on passing those exams. she gives you a study guide for every test as well so if you have your notes and your text book(just for definitions and chapter summary) you'll be just fine.
Studying is required! She's interesting at times but very strict with cellphones/sleeping. She goes through things really quickly and I didn't have a textbook (I wish I did) but I still passed with a B- . BUY THE TEXTBOOK. It will make things a LOT easier.
This is a difficult class! There are trick questions on her test! There always seemed to be two answer that were so similar, you had a 50/50 chance of getting it right. I did her study guides yet I still struggled more in this class than I did in calculus (and I'm bad at math !)
Dr. Lynch's class was amazing! I learned so much from her&I learned good study habits from her class. She tried to scare us off in the begining of the semester by showing us last semester's statistics, but it's not impossible to get an A in her class. Just read the book, go to tutoring&don't procrasinate. I passed this class with A and so can you!
Radical class. I landed an A by attending all the lectures, following the research paper guidelines EXACTLY, paying attention and taking good notes (bring the study guide to class and use it as a note taking guide). the class is heavily weighted, you can use a cheat sheet on all exams and she drops your lowest exam score!! Very interesting class!
I loved Professor Lynch! Her class is definitely not easy, so many seem to have a problem with her. You really do need to study for her exams, come to class, and make sure to do the research papers exactly as specified, but an A is possible. Interesting class and she's such a cool person.
Wonderful professor, very interesting class. I don't know why people thought it was hard. I showed up for the lectures, read te book, made cheat sheets for exams, and got an A with no problem. Take this class - it's fun!
at a point it felt that this class ruined my life!!! but study hard and it will pay off ! go to class!!! you will only get out how much effort you put into it ! stay on top of it and you will pass.
I will admit I struggled at first. But once I realized that almost all questions on the test are based on examples she gives in her letcures( verbatim) I ended up with an A in the class. The key is to write all her example on my cheat sheets she lets you make!! Plus she is super funny and will email you back if you need help or have any questions
Her lectures were interesting for the most part, but at times it was difficult to stay awake at 8 in the morning. She's not that difficult as a teacher, but the tests are a bit confusing. Just pay close attention to the lecture and follow instructions on the project - you will be guaranteed to get by with a decent grade.
people exaggerated about her class. It really isnt that hard. at freshman orientation they basically warned us about this class saying it will make us fail. Not really. just read the assigned chapters, take notes, make a good study guide. Shes an amazing professsor. =] i missed class more than twice and an exam and still passed with a decent grade
I LOVED this class. However, if you aren't into Psychology, you shouldn't take it. You really have to pay attention and take notes, and that's rather hard if you don't like the subject. Dr. Lynch was very helpful and nice when I needed her. Texters beware... She will find you in a crowd of 700+. Seriously.
This was a very interesting class for me. But you really have to read the book, attend class, and write good notes. And going to tutoring really helped me! So make use of it. Start on your research paper early. It's not hard and it boosts your grade up.
This class is pretty hard. not that you do much anything in the class, but her test can get to you if you dont study. you are only graded on 4 test and a research paper. you have to do well on every single test otherwise you wont pass the class. NEVER study last min, it will hurt you. and it can put you to sleep, if you have an early time.
Take Lynch if you struggle with math. I took PSY 371 with a different teacher and failed it. I registered to take it a second time with Lynch and am doing very well in the class. She does a lot of example problems in class and really takes the time to explain the concepts and relevance of Stats.
Interesting class, test are pretty difficult. Research project helps your grade.
TAKE LYNCH. although she can be extremely intimidating, she is an absolutely fantastic professor! if you have a problem with math like I did, she is your girl for stats-- soo helpful, honest, and intelligent!
4 tests and 1 research paper. make sure you do well on the paper cus it can help your grade or hurt your grade.
I have not found this class to have been helpful at all. The aplia homework is really what teaches you what you need to know. The TAs are also helpful. Although Dr. Lynch means well, her class is boring, and I feel like she doesn't teach the concepts of statistics well. It would help if she would do more than one example problem. Take someone else!
Stats is not easy for me, but I understood the content when it pertains to psychology. Boring lectures, she just goes over whatever chapter we're on. I feel like she's rather do problems with more detail than will ever be required of you online and in class. Aplia takes up a lot of time, and she doesn't always teach you what Aplia will test you on.
MAKE SURE YOU ARE PREPARED TO TAKE THIS COURSE! You need to take notes, read the book, and study! She allows for study sheets on exams, but the RER is a bit difficult and can hurt your grade if you don't do it. So DO IT EARLY!
All you need to do is go to lectures, study, and make a very thorough cheat sheet and you'll be fine.
I was never interesting in Psychology to begin with and only took this class because it fulfilled requirements for GE and my major. I found her class to be boring most of the times, although, it can be interesting sometimes. Do your RER early and study for her exams a couple weeks in advance and you SHOULD be fine.
Lynch is an awesome professor. Makes class interesting, always. Attendance is optional, but makes a difference. Cheats sheets for every exam. One 6+ page research paper due, that you get in beginning of semester and is due near the end. I definitely recommend it.
Great example of a university course with an ineffective learning environment. 3 days/week, early morning, 700 students, and an incompatible teaching style with this. I would complain less if the tests weren't so demanding, but an undynamic prof reading bulleted notes to 700 sleepy freshman and extremely difficult tests just don't mix. Don't take.
The class itself is meh (statistics is statistics), but Professor Lynch is an awesome teacher. I had her for General Psych and this class so far and I've thoroughly enjoyed my experience in those courses.
I loved this class. Yes the tests were insane and there are way to many students but I love Psych (Psych major!) and Mrs Lynch made it even more interesting.
This class is difficult if you're not into psychology. There are a lot of concepts you need to know, but she offers tutor hours that are extremely helpful. Follow all guidelines for the paper. Go to the optional final! Most likely she will bump your grade. It's a reasonable class. Take it.
Even though I read the textbook and filled out the study guides for practice before the tests (like I did) I found myself getting Ds on the tests due to the fact that the questions on her tests were phrased so ambiguously that two of the four answers usually could have been correct. Grades are comprised of just four tests and a project. Not fair.
Dr. Lynch is an awesome professor. She is extremely knowledgable, and humanistic. However, her mode of designing the tests can be frustrating due to the ambiguity presented within the exams. She is not intimidating at all. It is not the professors job to hold your hand through the course. Grading consists of: 3 exams, 2 papers and one group project
Research paper is hella hard if you don't do it exactly like how she wants it she will give you a hella bad grade. They don't give extra credit. Exams are hard and tutoring doesn't help.
She has a lot of rules for her class, overall it is alright considering she teaches the only section offered. It is kind of her way or the highway to try to have some order in a class of 700. Just study for the tests and follow all of the rules for the research project and you should do fine.
If you're looking for an easy A, DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. I personally loved her though. Shes funny, interesting to listen to, and WANTS you to succeed, but in a class of 700+, you cant expect her to hand you your grade on a platter. DO THE STUDY GUIDES, there are 4 exams and an optional final. The research paper is time consuming [i hated that part].
If you are the type of learner who cannot focus on the textbook and needs a professor to explain concepts, then go to class. Otherwise many people just self study and never go to class except on the 4 exam dates. Stay on top of reading and try working on the study guide ALONE. it helps.
If you're looking for an easy A, do not take this class. She's an incredibly knowledgeable teacher. Although the tests are nearly impossible to receive a decent grade on, even with studying hours on end and a one sided study guide. Looking at the grades posted for the class, nearly 1/3 failed the class out of 700 people.
This teacher is a great woman, but it is a challenging class. If you attend and study HARD for the tests you will be fine!
Lynch's class is really interesting, she is extremely sharp and obviously knows a lot about psychology. Although when I first got there, I felt like I was taking a neuroscience class, if you're interested in personality psychology and disorders etc.. she only breifly goes over that at the end of the semester. BTW, sit in the front so you can hear.
Prof Lynch is strongly bureaucratic but brilliant and funny. How to get an A in 200: Read the text with the study guide while writing your cheat sheet. Answer the questions in the textbook. Be attentive in lecture. Complete your RER early and have it proofed by the tutors. I've seen students get their grades tanked by submitting improper RERs.
Large class; Interesting lectures, rather humorous; specified syllabus and expectations; strict on electronics use, will stop to rebuke students; 4 moderately difficult exams, 1 optional final, 1 crucial research project; curved grading; things helpful to me: tutoring/txtbk website/study guide
This class is like a stand up comedy show. The prof gets up on stage and she is hilarious. Do not be fool it is a very difficult class. There are 4 exams and an optional 5th but the questions are really misleading or ambiguous. She expects students top know a lot more than she lectures on. Go to tutoring when the study guide. Cool class though.
This is a 700 person class and it is the only one available so you basically have to take it if you want to study Psychology. The class is graded off 4 exams and a research project; the exams are extremely difficult and irrelevant to the textbook material. Seriously wish there were some alternative. Lynch is a fun person but a bad teacher.
She's a good professor who conveys the information very clearly. You need to KNOW the concepts for her exams, not just definitions. Know examples. Go to lecture. Skim the text for things that weren't covered in lecture. Research paper is not difficult. If you go to lecture, pay attention, study well, and do the paper right, you will pass.
Dr. Lynch is a knowledgeable professor who strays off topic often but ties it back to the lecture.Tests are mostly based on lecture and some questions can be answered by reading the book. Most of the questions on on the tests were conceptual. Research paper was very important. Stick to her guidelines and DO NOT PROCRASTINATE.
the research requirement is super straightforward. follow the guidelines and you'll be fine. attendance isnt mandatory-class of 700-but going and taking good notes is way better than trying to get answers to the tests from the book. personally, i thought the tests were pretty easy. Use your cheat sheet to write down the answers to the study guide
My recommendation for this class: daily studying, review notes, do RER early and have the tutors check it, go to tutoring. Attendance is not mandatory, so if you want to text your friends during class time, don't go. She will find you. Lots of her lectures are based in biology, as well, so if you don't like bio, maybe don't take her.
Dr. Lynch is a wonderful witty professor. Although, her class was hard she was awesome. Her class is not an easy A. You have to put time and effort into this course if you want a good grade, unless you're the next Einstein. There are 4 exams and a final. There is also a research paper you have to do, which is pretty confusing. Tutoring helps a lot.
Definitely take this class if you have the opportunity. Dr. Lynch is a wonderfully sharp professor with an abundance of knowledge and experience related to the field. Not an easy class for a GE, the tests are concept based so pay close attention in lecture.
Best professor I ever had thus far. She's the only professor that teaches 700 students (highest # of students in a lecture in SFSU) and she does it well. She's well-read, very articulate, very witty, very entertaining. Tests are conceptual, lectures are entertaining (sit in the front!!), very friendly and funny.
You don't always have to go to class, but if she showed a video that day make sure to get notes from someone because it will be on the test. Answer the study guide and drop by office hours at some point and you should do fine on the tests. Final is optional & research paper isn't hard. I recommend this class :)
Amazing teacher! She is sweet, funny, intelligent, fashionable, and definitely one of those people who you really can't help liking. She's really easy to approach, and loves all her 700 students. It's not an easy A class, the tests and paper are no walk in the park, but if you're looking to learn, then this is the class to take!
Took this class as a GE to fill up my class units. Thinking this class was going to be fun, i was wrong. Her class is dumb, in class she goes off topic alot and doesn't even cover full material on test. Test are super hard. Her office hours are a waste of time, all they do is sit there and wait. I suggest you avoid this class, other reviews are bad
Being a GE class I thought it would be an easy A. I was wrong. This class is very difficult! Exams are very hard and really detailed. Her lectures are not good at all. She needs to upgrade to powerpoint lectures. The average for all the exams this semester have been 60% or less. You really need to study and know what you are reading to get an A.
You don't ned to go to class but you need to get your hands on old tests from someone who took the class last year in order to know how she tests. The exams are very very very hard and the one project you do has crazy requirements so be careful taking this class. Personally she is very sweet and manageable if you try
In her lectures, it's CRUCIAL that while you write down her notes from the projector, you LISTEN to what she's saying. On the slides will be terms, and she will verbally explain them, so it's important that you PAY ATTENTION. I would recommend recording her lectures, it helped alot with studying. The study guides and tutors are helpful as well.
Difficult class. The lectures are somewhat helpful, but the study guides help the most. However, sometimes the answers cannot be found in the book, which is inconvenient. There is a huge "liberal" curve, so that should help. If you plan to take this class, I recommend going to tutoring and completing the study guides and RER ASAP. Good luck :')
Very interesting class. Dr. Lynch is extremely knowledgable and passionate of psychology. Class consists of 4 tests, an optional final, and a larger assignment known as RER (Research Experiential Requirement). Tests were very interesting in that they contain conceptual examples rather than just raw information. Attend class and you'll be fine.
Not fun. The professor is interesting, but she seems a little snobbish. The class was difficult; I can't believe I passed it, honestly. Exams were hard. She'll replace your lowest exam score with the final if you take it, but the final was much more difficult than the exams. the study guide was of no help. Take another class, if you can.
Wow the hardest class yet in any GE course i have taken. Lectures are so boring and have nothing to do with the tests. You literally have to go to class and then read every chapter and remember word for word to do good on the tests. Offers absolutely no extra credit.
Going to class was so pointless. Reading the textbook was easier. You literally have to study every page in the textbook to do good on the test. You have to go to tutoring if u don't pass a test. Tutoring was so pointless too. All they do if ask you learned from the reading. I could've asked myself that instead of going to tutoring. Don't do it...
I considered being a Psychology major but now I dont consider it anymore. Her lectures really put you to sleep. Gets off topic a lot. Tests are really different from the study guide. More than half the class fails every test. Oh yea, NO CELLPHONES in class or else the TAs scream at you.(literally)
Most of everyone i knew in class had to take this class for credit/no credit. Ridiculously insane professor. Tests were completely hard. Study guides were completely endless and had nothing to do with the tests. Tutoring was a nightmare. They made me read every paragraph and summarize it orally to them in tutoring.
Never again. You're not allowed to take notes in class with a laptop. No Electronics period or else you'll get in trouble Infront of the class. Four tests which are ridiculously hard unless u have time to show up to office hours 24/7. Very boring lectures.
Is writing down your notes on paper THAT horrible? Whiners. Lynch allows a full page of notes for each exam, and gives study guides a couple weeks before, though often times it is not similar to the exams. If you read the book and go to lecture, though, you're golden.
Four tests, and optional final to replace any test score. Class is mandatory if u want a good grade. Tutoring is pretty much them making you read the book page by page and summarizing it in front of them. Hard class and she automatically curves the grade because its hard. Not very many do good. Highly dont recommend unless u need this class
All I can say is I've had better elementary teachers.
With 700 students, its so hard to interact with the professor. Tough class with no room to procrastinate. You're better off taking it at a Community College. Atmosphere of the class just makes you want to sleep.
Not an easy Class to pass. Better work your butt off if u wanna pass.
She is a great teacher in my opinion even though the class was challenging. In order to get an A you must go to class. Tests require not only textbook knowledge but also lecture knowledge. Grades are curved, but only take this class if its required for your major.
This class isn't THAT hard as everyone is making it out to be. Keep in mind that this is a 700 student class, so it's not gonna be a course where your hand is held along each chapter. You are gonna have to put the time in and study the book, AND ACTUALLY GO TO CLASS. Most of her lecture ends up on the test, so memorize your notes and read the book.
Horrible large lecture 700plus students. makes weird jokes and lectures thru out class. Has hard exams every 3-4 weeks which are based off of real-life scenarios and u gotta kno what does it pertain to. exams are 35 mulitple choice questions. Has a 6 page minimum reserach paper that everyone hates. She is really rude if you meet her in person.
I barely passed this class but went on to take PSY 441 and got an A. Her lectuers put me to sleep and her study guides were not helpful but her study tips helped me in later psych classes.
If you want to do well in her class, recording lectures is the way to go. I found that reviewing her lecture significantly raised my grades in her class. The notes are very vague, so you should pay attention to what she is saying, not really the notes she posts. The tests are challenging, but definitely do-able, and she gives a decent curve.
Worst teacher Ive ever had. Her lectures are unorganized and do not cover the assigned readings. HW and test questions are unclear. After spending hours reviewing each chapter I was still lost in this class. By some miracle I got an A- but I feel as though I learned NOTHING from this class and thats what upsets me so much. Avoid this teacher!!
She curves the grade so much that even then people cant get a good score on her tests. What she teaches in class is irrelevant to what is on the test. The key is reading the book. Might as well be an online class. Avoid....
No idea how I ended up with an A. This class was ridiculous. The tests were all hypothetical situations instead of knowing definitions/concepts. Very vague. I didn't really attend lecture because it was pointless. Read the book! Much more helpful than she is. Get your papers done early, it'll kill your grade if you wait.
I didnt learn anything in her class. There is way to much students and she goes through the material to fast and have no time for questions... The tests are bs dosent even relate to the study guide she gives. I do not recommend anyone taking this course
Good teacher, very thoughtful and helpful when you can talk to her in person. Class is huge which doesnt help much but I enjoyed the class and thought it was fair
Tough but Fair. I feel most students that are critical of her were not interested in the subject. This isn't high school people! Go to class and put forth effort. She knows her stuff and is as sharp as a whip. If you need help there is tutoring 5 days a week. By far one of my favorite professors at SFSU. If you do the RER you will get a C.
This instructor is so rude! Some people in the class asked her to slow down and reiterate certain topics and she told us that she teaches a certain way, and that she has no intention of changing. You ask questions and she is condescending and rude. Outside of class, she is just as rude.
I took this class as a freshman. Dr. Lynch was not interested in helping her students understand. She was so rude to people, it was embarrassing. That's why I never spoke up in class and asked questions. During office hours, she is also not very nice. Big ego. Take this class from someone else.
This class is sooo easy. I didn't show up for like a month; then I went online and read the study guide and the book. Made sure I could answer the questions (plus you get a sheet of notes) test came, got an A. Second test? Same thing. Didn't even need to take the final. Did my RERs in one day (but it was a 16 hour day of class work for me...)
If you want an easy GE course, don't take this class. It is harder than most classes here, but it's pretty similar to a class at a higher university. You can pass easily, but to do well you need to put in effort. The study guides are merely a guide for exams; make sure you do the reading and come to class. If you try, you can get an A.
Her exams are so hard. I had to take this class twice bcus I failed it the first time. I've learned that reading the textbook is much more effective than her lectures. So def. just read the book and study off of it before u take the exam. Upside: you can make a 1 page sided cheat sheet for all exams including the final.
I took Psychology 200 with Lynch. You are very unprepared for exams, often times she states something will not be on an exam and it is (and vice versa). However, if you do decent on the exams and get a good grade on the RER, you're likely to get a good grade. Tip: do the practice quizzes at the end of the book and you should be fine for the exams.
Amazing professor! Definitely would take any of her classes. Very well organized and relevant lectures. Impeccable expertise. Great sense of humour.
Lynch is a tough professor, her tests are definitely not easy. Always study for the tests in advance and she always posts the study guide. Be sure to actually read the book because sometimes the tests have questions not covered on the study guide. Overall very interesting course and if you study you should do well :)
Lectures were way too long. If you didn't go to class and takes notes, you'd miss a portion on the test. Her tests were basically based off everything that she said in class. If you're able to get a different psych class, I'd recommend getting another class!
I was a junior when I took this class and it was still the hardest class i took for no reason. Exam's are ridiculous and even with a cheat sheet It's like she wants to fail you. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't show up good luck on the exams!
Worst teacher ever, her tests and study guides are practically two different things. And lecture notes do not help at all, its like impossible to get a good grade in this class, she also failed me on my RER and it was so late in the semester that I couldn't even ask her what was wrong with it, like literally a day before the semester was over!
Attendance isn't mandatory, however there are a few questions on the exams based off activities films shown in lecture. Her study guides don't guarantee you a good grade on the exams. In order to get a good grade on the exam you must READ THE TEXTBOOK, and if you need extra help the she has grad. students open for tutoring.
People say she's hard and tough, but it's not that bad. Go to class, read and pay attention to her instructions and you'll pass.
Here's the deal: Dr. Lynch knows her stuff. This is a tough class. You do have to put effort into getting a good grade. All I wanted was a B- and I did get it. I went to class maybe 30% of the time, but I read the book. READ THE BOOK. Trust me. Take online practice quizzes. Show up for the tests, don't be lazy, and do the RER. You'll be fine.
READ THE BOOK! I can not emphasize this enough. Her lectures are pretty vague, so reading the book is a big help with learning concepts. Also, don't wait last minute to study and do your RER! There's no homework, so tests do matter. I wish I went to her tutoring sessions- take advantage of them. Hard class, but you need to put in the work to pass.
It was really difficult to get an A. Her tests do follow the study guide a bit, but in order to receive a high grade you should definitely purchase the textbook and read ahead of time. If you manage your time well and follow all the guidelines, you will definitely pass. The RER is straight forward, so follow every single instruction. It was fun.
Lynch' lectures were very interesting. Some of her test questions are based of her lectures! Be sure to read the book. Her tests are fairly difficult but if you study, you will get a good grade. Most of her questions are based off of examples so they will make you think. You will get a good grade on the research project if you follow the guideline!
Everyone complaining must not have shown up. I never even bought looked at the text book, but I showed up to class every single day, went over the study guide for the test, did the RER and got an A. She goes over everything and connects it well. If you cant get a question answered she's available in office hours and google helps too.
I wouldn't recommend this as a GE. The tests are unusually difficult, which may be because this is a major class for psych majors. That said, I did learn quite a lot; I just wish I bought the text, since the tests are more rooted in the text than in her lectures. Read the text -religiously-, attend lecture, and do the RER and you should be fine.
Her tests are tough. Her lectures are based on her notes, and doesn't write many notes, so make sure you pay more attention to what she says and READ THE BOOK. The textbook will be the only thing that can help you. Go to tutoring, that is also very helpful. 3 essays, 3 tests, one final.
Lynch was a decent prof, the material was dense because Gen Psych is so broad and is hard to fit into a single semester. Her lectures can get boring, especially early in the morning and its very tempting to skip. Her tests are worded very tricky, she really makes you work for it. Im a psych major and I was so bored and didn't do great on the tests.
Super interesting class! If you have already taken a class in either statistics, physiology, or psych then that would help you a lot. Personally found it easy and Lynch to be pretty funny
Lectures are somewhat interesting, but she usually doesn't make it through the day's agenda by the end of class. That leads to us having to read the textbook to know those subjects for exams. Tests are multiple choice only, and a page of notes are allowed. I dont think i learned that much from this class.
The class is taught in lecture form and they are very long, dry, and boring. Her tests are very unrelated to the lectures which makes it very tempting to skip class a lot. The tests are very difficult. Worded difficultly and do not pertain to the study guide at all. I would recommend taking a different teacher.
worked hard and still failed.
Her exams are hard. Never missed a class and did all my work and barely passed with a B.
Lectures can be interesting but notes are based off what she says in the lecture so make sure to pay attention. Tests are really hard also. Take them in groups
Reading a thread about terrible college group projects reminded me of my bad experience with Dr. Lynch. Not a supportive teacher--if other students are abusive during group projects she shrugs her shoulders and tells you to "deal with it". On the whole, not the worst professor in the psychology department; but, she uses her students for therapy.
Dr. Lynch can be a mixed bag - not the most supportive with group projects, but lectures are engaging. Unstuckstudy AI was a lifesaver for preparing for her exams.
