She's a great lecturer, but you'd better study like hell for the final.
Boring if u've ever had a myth class b4. Horrid exams- don't take this class!
She makes the stupidest little jokes (i am Cerberus) but we love her for it
This woman should not have a PhD. She can't even work her computer.
I can't stand this teacher. She is the devil. What's with her voice? So weir
Really interesting stuff...easy midterm...KILLER final...Beware!

Horrible teacher!! Not helpful at all! ****ing insane exams! Dont take this clas
fun stories, but no notes given and you have to remember EVERY little detail

she is the worts teacher ever. She insults students and she doesn't know anything about greeks!!!!!!!!!!!
on the whole, a good prof. tells terrible jokes though, and should not be allowed to use powerpoint.
I like her a lot. Unlike what some have said, she is very informed about the topics she teaches.
She's a nice person, but isn't a great prof. She's enthusiastic about the material, yet she still manages to put me to sleep. Her final is horrible!!! There are WAY too many details to remember!!!
what r those ppl saying, she *does* know what she s talking about...plus there s a small coursepack to have an outline of each lecture, *and* they re available online..tests are easy IF u remember EVERY greek name and every story..gotta have a big memory!
very enthusiastic lectures!
She should not have a PhD. She can't even turn on her computer let alone teach a class full of students. This teacher was so bad, I stopped going to class, she would make me so irritated that I couldn't stand it. And that voice...ahh!
I stopped going to lectures after the midterm... where I realized that going to everyone of them didn't help me at all... I was just annoyed with her. She's like an evil, condecending version of my grandmother.
She teaches a bird course. Basically she tells stories. But beware her exams! Be prepaired to study more for her final than for any of your other courses... ANY OF THEM!
The course itself requires lots of work, but anyone who enjoys it and willing to put in a lot of work would love her: she knows what she teaches really, really well! (I loved her classes!!)
If you've retained whatever mythology you've picked up from school or movies AND have a good memory: the class is a breeze (but still requires work). Otherwise, don't take it because you'll despise Mar-Mar -- which you shouldn't, because she's quite good

Professor Palczynski was a great lecturer who really took the time to make certain that students were on track - she is passionate and enthusiastic about teaching Ancient Greek and has made learning the great language an absolutely wonderful experience!
she's an absolute loon, but she was very helpful and compassionate and gave us lots of chances to do well or improve our marks. lots of work for this class but very fair. and, she's a loon.
She is a really great teacher, i learned a lot from her class, though the subject is a little bit difficult, but Margaret could make every lecture so exciting!!!
Her lectures are basically storytelling which is a great way to end your day, she's really entertaining. Her quizzes are easy if you learn how to spell the names and if you make an effort to memorize. Thoroughly enjoyable!
Studying for the quizzes can be a ****, but apart from that, the reading is light, the lectures are interesting, and she is a joy to listen to. Very animated.
Awesome teacher! She is soooo into the material and makes the class very animated and enjoyable! She always walks in late, and when its a friday and sunny she lets you out early. Quizzes are a B*&** to study for, so much information and names, but a very enjoyable class. Reading and memorization
Kindergarten. She employs the phrase "it's interesting" to conclude every topic. If you want a prof to be "excited about the material!!!" take her course, then, you damned fool. Don't take her courses if you want sound academics or insights into antiquity. One of the weakest profs I've had at McGill.
She's a great teacher in that she's really enthusiastic about the material, takes questions and records the lectures, but the questions on the final exam were all phrased so vaguely, which made it hard to do well, even if you answered the question well.
realy nice and intersting...great class if mythology's your thing
I loved it, and as a science student, studying for the quizes was incredibly easy. I don't know why arts student complain about it, it's really not that much and I found the course incredibly enjoyable and interesting. I love her, she's the best Professor ever. Fabulous
This is really a great class...i loved it...this prof is very entertaining and interesting and so is the material, the only difficulty is all the memorization required for the quizzes.
Very interesting class and somewhat easy tests. At some point you do have to remember A LOT of names and how to spell them, but she doesn't go that hard on you. Very helpful too, but prone to be over-authoritorian, eg DON'T TALK IN CLASS! She'll eat your heart if you do.
incredible class...i had no interest in greek myth whatsoever before taking this class and it turned out to be my favorite class of the semester. margaret is hilarious and so entertaining. her class is like storytime however not an easy course, lots of memorization but highly recommended
Good professor, but goes too fast in class when teaching ancient greek!
Sound academics or insights into antiquity? How long did it take you on 'dictionary.com' to form that sentence? She's a fabulous teacher, and she teaches the course exactly how it is stated in the description...if you like to think you're some smart ass b**ch who wants intense greek theory and history, take a higher level class smart ass.
Margaret is the best. Her lectures are interesting clear and easy to understand. She is super helpful, friendly and always in a good mood. Although her latin exams can be difficult (those in ancient greek and greek myth are way easier)she is very understanding when it comes to giving extensions, deferring test dates, and giving extra credit options
Oh! Such a good class! It was story time... university style. As long as you remember fiction well, you'll do great in this class. And it's so much fun just being able to sit back and listen to her talk and not worry too much about taking notes, as you can just listen to the lectures before exams and do really well.
This woman just might be the Devil reincarnate. Her lectures are eye-gougingly boring, and her voice makes nails on a chalkboard sound like a breakaway pop hit. Tons of memorization, easy to fall behind, listening to or attending lectures is pretty much required. I'd rather have spent a term watching paint dry. My GPA would have thanked me.
Superb! I enjoyed the class, and I rocked it. I've heard of people doing badly in it, but if you can memorize, it's easy. The lectures were by far my favourite lectures I was taking.
Very organized and there are recordings
She is amazing
she is a lot of fun to listen to, but there is a LOT of memorization required and it's pretty hard to get a high grade. don't take it thinking it's going to just be a bird course, because it isn't!!
the content of the course is pretty interesting but she has the worst voice to listen to in the world. not an easy course, and goes way way way too much into detail. i wouldn't really recommend unless you are seriously into greek myth, otherwise don't think its going to be a bird course.
This class has far too much memorization of names, espeically on tests--which is not actually testing whether you know the content, but moreso upon mundane and anal-rentative things. In retrospect, this class was much like death. Think of her like an assassin. She gets paid hefty amounts to KILL YOU.
worst voice ever..
It's like going to class and getting storytime... with lots of names.
Greek myth IS a bird course. There is a lot of material covered, but as long as you study, it is really easy to do well. The prof is good, too...she's really funny and her lectures are always engaging. Highly recommended!
She makes the stories very interesting and she has a lively, energetic voice. Yes, the names to remember are often difficult, but the stories are awesome. It's actually a v. useful course because Greek Myth has so many allusions in literature. Leshik the TA is awful though. He can't answer anything directly & blames YOU. I recommend the class tho!
Good prof...the class itself is very interesting. If you've got a good memory and like greek myth, then you'll do well in this course. It is a lot of memorization...names, places, stories, etc. But it pretty much is story time, uni style!! Prepare to take notes, you'll be doing it all class. Comes in handy...it relates to so many different things!
This class is fun and easy but only if you enjoy the subject material and are very good at memorizing LOTS of information and names (including spelling). She presents the stories in a clear way and only tests on what is said in class.
She tells the stories, all you need to know is basically in the lectures, but the class is just memorizing names, geneologies and maps. After hearing the stories you'll know them well enough for the test, but studying is just memorizing hundreds of names, pointless memorization....my time would have been better spent organziing my sock drawer.
Prof Palczynski is an amazing and fun lecturer but SO much memorization of random names. Print out slides beforehand and take notes during lecture. The course is recorded! You get your grades back slowly. I probably wouldn't take it again as it was more about memorizing than learning really. I would have liked a take-home research essay.
Worst. teacher. ever. Her ancient greek classes were HELL: really complicated, too much memorizing, the exams were excruciatingly difficult. She made everybody in the class feel bad about their grades, the questions they'd ask during class, etc. Her mythology classes were quite fun though.
Unless you are obsessed with Greek Mythology, do not take this course. Especially if you need some random course for an elective, never take this course. I have never failed a course in my entire life and came pretty close by barely passing. No normal human mind can memorize the material that is required for this course.
It's true, this class is all about memorizing. It is possible to get an A (I did), but you really have to write down (and know) everything she says in lecture. I just listened to the lecture recordings and used the pause button A LOT.
Punishes intellectual curiosity and ability by treating everyone as if this were their first university course, and expecting them to act accordingly. Which is fine if this is your first university course. For anyone further on in their studies, however, expect to feel frustrated and stunted in your academic development.
Is Passionate about Myth, but has an attitude problem. Learning about myth by having to memorize a hundred names and fifty stories at once kills the study of Myth. Mythology has a much deeper significance than just stories and names. This significance is not at all adequately conveyed in this course by this lecturer.
Do NOT take her class,The topic is interestign and she knows her stuff, but the difficulty is brutal. The class is not worth the effort.
I've had her for 203,220, and 321 and she is a great prof! I can't believe all the negative comments. Yes, Greek myth is a lot of work, but how can you expect to take the class and not need to know the names. Greek is tough, but because she was so hard on us in beginners, I was prepared for the higher level. She is great! One of my favorite profs!
dominique glassman
If I had her for every language course I've ever taken, I'd be wildly proficient in them all. She is a fantastic teacher who expects hard work from her students and encourages passion in the Classical field.
fantastic prof. very clear and helpful and even though the pace is greuling and every week youwant to dash your own brains out due to learning a new set of paradigms, you always want more. Favourite professor of freshman year by far!
Great prof, extremely passionate and funny to listen to. I enjoyed the material, hated memorizing it, and hated writing exams. The course is passable (I got an A-) but expect to spend LOTS of time memorizing names, geneologies and stories. The Professor herself is fantastic though.
Take this course if you like myth and stories. It is passable, the tests are easy as long as you did remember the stuff. Read the textbook, it's fun, but just study the slides for exams. She is willing to help too. Overall, The prof is very enthusiastic and you will stay awake all the time, my word!
Amazing Prof! Knows the material and is excellent at passing her enthusiasm for the subject on to her students. Can't find a single fault with her
Best proff by a landslide! She is extremly passionate about the material which makes it easy to stay interested. It is alot of memorization but the stories are so interesting its easy to remember. Grading is fair and it wasn't that hard to get a good grade. Take this class :D
Great prof! Very witty and humorous. Knows and loves her material. Take her courses whenever you can!
BEST CLASS EVER! BEST PROF EVER! She's hilarious and so into what she teaches. I totally recommend this class.
She is a good teacher, but she sets deadlines for reports when she NEVER respects her own deadlines for correcting!
She is good, but a very hard marker and her tests are ridiculous! KNOW EVERYTHING SHE SAYS IN CLASS!!
She's decent. She talks alot and tends to emphasis useless facts. You dont need to go to class, either read the textbook or listen to the lectures on line. Shes pretty funny but its very easy to get distracted in her class. Its not as much of a bird course as people make it to be. Its straight memorization so if your good with that, take the class
Amazing class! I would definitely recommend it. Margaret is extremely passionate and makes the class fun. I actually enjoy listening to the lectures and the midterms are brutally easy. As long as you keep up with the work, you can get a good mark.
She is the best prof I have had here at McGill. She is super helpful, passionate about the subject, makes the exams easy and really apreciates any input so that she can make the class the best it can be. Great Prof, Great class.
this woman was literally the best prof i've ever had. i am not a classics student, but she made me almost want to be one. she was hilarious and ridiculously intelligent. she knows her stuff and absolutely loves to teach it, which really makes you want to learn. margey love for life !
favourite class! its basically story time. her powerpoints are awesome, read the textbook after attending the lectures because her powerpoints include everything you really need to know. really easy to do well on the written responses and pretty decent/fair exams. take this course!!
Margaret is the cutest prof ever. She loves what she teaches. She made the course really enjoyable.
Amazing prof, love her to death! One of the best ever
Best Professor I've had so far at McGill. Enjoy your teaching so much, I took a Greek Mythology class just to be taught by her again. Fantastic. A real pleasure to sit in her classroom. Loves her subject, loves her students.
not a bird course but interesting if you're willing to do the work, a lot of memorization. prof is pretty good
This class started strong but faded quickly. I thought I was interested in Classical Mythology, but by the end of this I was banging my head against the wall. Lectures are clear and concise, but she is generally unapproachable and sometimes borders on being rude. All in all, this class ended up being simply depressing and entirely useless.
Margaret is simply amazing. She is really clear and concise with her lessons and available if you need help. You just need to be able to understand and memorize facts to do well. A very easy A if you apply some effort in my opinion
Margaret is amazing! The only reason greek myth was such an awesome class was because of her. She's so passionate and makes everything dramatic and exciting, it's hard not to look forward to the class. There's a lot of information to memorize and know, but it's worth it for 'story time with margaret'
Closest thing to a bird course I've taken at McGill. Very interesting course makes studying for it easy. Prof is super nice loves the subject and makes you love it too
I'm not sure why people are saying this class is a bird course. It's not. I got an A- in the class, but I really worked for it. It's not hard concepts or anything, but there's so much to memorize that it required a lot of study time. The professor is one of the best at McGill, in my opinion. In terms of lecturing, especially. Take the course!
Too many things to memorize! God bless me this one will not ruin my GPA!!!
This class isn't exactly a bird course, but if you study, you can definitely get an A. Margaret is a FANTASTIC teacher, she's very welcoming and approachable. She makes the lectures really fun, it feels like story time! There is a lot of memorizing and reading to do but I highly recommend taking this class, even if you just take it for the prof!!
This class is nothing close to a bird course, it requires a lot of work on behalf of the students, theres 3 tests, and 4 Essays, which makes it very compact throughout the semester, I got an A but i worked really hard for it, and it took most of my study time!!! way too much things to memorize, if ur taking 5 courses, then dont take this...
Amazing professor she is so animated she turns the class into story time. Everyone should take this class!!!!
She's the best. My favorite prof at McGill. TAKE A CLASS WITH THE HECK IS WRONG WITH YOU.
Great prof made me love classics and choose to minor in it. Good bird course but still interesting!
Great Prof! shes very passionate about this course. going to every class is suggested, and listening to everything she says because it will all be tested. its basically just memorizing a ton of stories and shes great at telling stories (lots of laughing)
Amazing professor. Makes the course extremely interesting, loved going to class. One of the best professors at Mcgill. Very easy to get an A on midterms if you study, have to write 4 essays for the course, (400 words each) which can be very annoying.
The professor gives the impression that she is interested in the transmission of knowledge; however, when I inquired as to how I could improve, she took offence and proceeded to pointedly critique my entire paper. The experience left me with the impression that Margaret regards students as second class citizens in that they are only after grades.
The class is really easy and interesting- you can tells she's passionate about what she teaches. Lectures are enjoyable because it's basically her telling you stories. I didn't like how she was so disorganized- never posted things when she said she would. She would promise to post study guides and marks and never do so. Overall, decent prof.
All lectures are recorded. Amazing prof! She is very clear, has a great sense of humour, and tests and marks fairly. Testing tends to be easier than marked assignments. In such a large class, she doesn't have time for everyone's problems and has no clue how to help you with mycourses/minerva.
Extremely easy class, everyone should be able to get an A as long as you spend some time reading the material before exams. Lectures are fun and interesting- basically story-time. Prof is very disorganized, can't use technology, and never posts things when she says she will.
Not an extremely difficult class, but not an easy A. You will have to study hard, but it's pure memorization. The lectures are basically storytelling time, but TAKE NOTES. Overall, an interesting course but you will need to work hard for your marks.
Not a bird course - easy A if you put in a lot of work. They changed the curriculum a bit this year so it was more difficult. Pure memorization, harder online reports, and the TA's were tough graders. It was still a very interesting course and the prof is great, but there was a lot more work than most expected!
Amazing class! Actually feels like story time. I barely had to study for the midterms or final because her lectures were so engaging and memorable. The bad thing about this class is the TAs seem to be hit or miss and grade the essays inconsistently, but Margaret is great and the exams easy.
Prof. Palczynski is very funny and quirky. She loves what she teaches and makes it interesting. I would definitely take this class again! It is like story time and makes you want to learn more. Visit the TA about online reports it helps! The instructions she gives for the reports are not always clear. Midterm and final fairly easy. Always helpful.
I took this class for elective and overall I loved it. I think attendance is important, unless you don't mind reading 50 pages to have the material... well, you better be there. Also, I did not get an A because I am not so used to essay writing and graders can be a bit tough. Still, exams were fair, and the class was super fun.
Great prof but I don't understand how this class is considered a bird course. With 2 midterms, 5 short essays, in-class quizzes, and a final (MC, matching, fill in the blank, short answer) I found this pretty demanding for an elective. Also, it's pure memorization and with greek myth the words were pretty foreign to me (and there were a LOT).
She recorded lectures, made good slides and was clear about exam content. Easy A.
Margaret is excellent at story-telling. You can go, sit and listen to her talk and easily learn so much. There's a lot of work to do for the course, but also tons of time to do it and with resubmitions, obtaining an A is feasible. The midterms were straightforward and easy if you studied. 1 complaint: the section 3 content was poorly organized.
Pros and cons to CLAS203. Pros: Prof. Palczynski is a great lecturer. Upbeat, interesting and fun! The material itself is not difficult. An A is quite achievable. The grade is split up in many assignments and exams. Cons: Many Greek names and words must be remembered for the exams. I found the Greek words asked on exams were overly specific.
Easy class if you keep up with the readings/assignments. It's easy to fall behind b/c the syllabus doesn't include a reading schedule, and there are a lot of details to remember. Midterms/final exam are a breeze IF YOU READ THE TEXTBOOK/LISTEN TO LECTURES. I definitely could have gotten a higher final grade, but overall great class and GREAT prof!
Loved this class. Learned so much. The professor's passion for the class is contagious. A very easy A but a lot of memorization so if you have a good memory this class is your best friend.
