she is defenatly a bad teacher!she just keep talking and talking in the lessons but then you cant learn ANYTHING!too much work and so-call Discussion Question that you hvta do if you take her lesson.half of our class left after few lessons.she can understand a little cantonese and japanese
She is actually not that bad at all. The DQs are easy and you learn things from answering the questions. She has a lot of interesting stories to tell, and her class is not hard at all! you don't really get a lot of works, as long as you do what she tells you to do. Tests are easy.
She is happy! Her last name is not Piper!
i dun like her. She gives lots of homework. She keeps on asking u about ur experiences ( which for me i am really out of experiences)Put more effort on what she asks for (date, name, etc). For exam, u can bring 4 pages note...her exam is not that hard as long as u study.
She isn't HORRIBLE, but she isn't great either. She is VERY by the book. I asked her for help throughout the quarter understanding her quiz questions (which are very objective), and she didn't give me any suggestions. If you take her, I don't suggest taking her distance learning course
She's really nice and cool, I like her class a lot, it was interesting, although the papers are quite irritating with all of the things she wants, but it is cool
She is a great instructor but the class material is so advanced - maybe it should be a graduate for students doing a masters degree. Too many different papers and topics so it gets confusing. Really difficult for ESL students even though it is Cultural Communications... even difficult for native speakers of English. Yet it is worth the hard study.
okay, first off she is obssesive about anything turned in, it must be exactly her format. Her assignments are not difficult but they are so confusing. The class is basically a commen sense class but she makes it soo difficult. she refers to her visit to Japan like 50 million times, overall avoid this class if u can, cuz i hate this class
This class sucked she sucked worst teacher i have ever had at DeAnza College. everything is complicated she is overbearing and way to many assignmnets with multiple parts. she wants to much hard tests and hard final plus she brags about herself for hours lectures all the time this class is a real snore beware take someone else if you can
I got an A and liked her materials, yes it is somewhat complicated but if you actually put the time and effort to do them you should get an A without a question. She makes the class interesting. I took her class a year ago and if you are taking sociology in the future, this class helps a lot. Those who got below a B could be just plain lazy :)
hey take this class man.. she is quite easy... i like her materials and her binder.. midterm is not hard coz she gave a review before hand. and we are allowed to bring 4 pages of notes!! overall: easy class
fun class.. fun presentation.. 6 pages of notes allowed for finals. we had potluck too!! yummy!!
Piper is a wonderful and sweet lady. She is very knowledgeable and tries to keep the class interesting and interactive. Had a great time! Do the work and you'll succeed, don't do the work and you'll fail. It's very simple.
She's a wonderful and helpful teacher! Pay attention to take notes and bring 4 pages of notes to midterm (6 to final exam), and you'll have good grades in exams. For all the assignments, she has very clear and organized instructions in the binder. She also likes to share her stories interact with students. Anyway, I had fun and learned a lot!
That ICS was hybrid, part online, part on-campus. Be ready to read a lot of material. Keep up with work, discussions, do review tests, participate and you will do very well. Read her instructions carefully and just follow them. You should then get an A. great teacher, fascinating class, technical vocabulary (this is college level, definitely).
She is a great instructor. She lays everything down and is always available for questions. A little anal about format, but flexible overall. It is a great class if you are willing to put effort into it. Will not regret!
coo lady, soft spoken, compares everything to her japanes husband and when she went to japan to visit his family, a little annoying, kind of complicated when it comes to what she wants like in your paper, but easy work, class is fun sometimes, especially in the end with the presentations, its coo.
This teacher applied what she taught to every day life and society currently. The examples help demostrate what she was talking about. Before I took her class, I wasn't interested in intercultural communications, but after taking her class, I see things differently and am more aware. Really good teacher.
Really easy teacher. Just do the work and you'll get an A. A little drab towards the end of the quarter due to her rushing through things. Ok class, but boring and inattentive.
Great teacher, knows how to teach. She's willing to help answr questions if you have them. Plenty of EC opportunities. Exams are easy if you've read the course packet. I highly reccommend this class.
What a great teacher! She just loves her subject and makes you to like it too. Do not be lazy, attend all of her classes, read the text book and your notes and do not be afraid to talk about your difficulties -- she is willing to help. And she is funny, smart, elegant, and not boring at all.
She's a great teacher. Very nice and she tries her best to help you with whatever question you have. As long as you attend the class and do your homework, it's not hard to get an A+.
This class is SUPER easy and you will learn a lot of very helpful skills. McNulty is not exactly the best teacher though. She comes off a bit full of herself and holier then thou. She is also sooooo anal about little details that you end up spending more time making things exactly how she wants them then you do studying. Overall not a bad class.
This teacher is one of the worst teacher I have ever had. She loves to micromanage a lot of things. So much online homework and her finals is all the units even though its covered on midterm. She is very picky and she acts like an English teacher because she grades you on your spelling and grammar even though its called intercultural communication.
If you wanna waste 5 hours time everyday doing your homework or some dumb stuff to this class. take it this class!! but if you love your off school time. Dont even think about picking this class!! She will eat all of your time at home, work, and school. dont do it!!!
I'm a international student, and my english is no good, so I almost can't understand what she said. she speak english is so fast that i can just understand 50% words. in other wise, it's waste time, really!
Oh what can I say about this one. She is such a perfectionist in a bad way. Don't expect to get anything write because your not right. You will never be right... because you don't know how to do it "the Piper Way" God speed to you if you take this class you will need it.
This teacher is no fun. She spams your inbox with messages all day and there no way you have any hope of getting a decent grade. One of the worst teachers at de anza!
Piper does want things done a certain way, but it is not difficult to pass her class. Just do the work on time. She is understanding of illness and life. There is a group project and that is the only thing I found difficult (I do not tend to work well when I have to rely on others). Hybrid class can be taxing, but class was fun :).
I had a great time in her class - the real life examples & skills activities made it interesting and fun! She creates an interactive & learning environment from day one & ishelpful. The hybrid (online + contact classes)is unique & got the class interacting 24x7. Classes were so engaging, I was sorry when the course ended! I highly recommend it.
Boring. High expectations. Lectures are mostly about herself. Sensitive to people talking. Must follow her way (format, vocab, grammar) <--like an English teacher wtf. Crazy make-up work to do if you miss a class. Spams your inbox with retarded things. DO NOT TAKE PLEASE DO NOT
Honestly not that hard. Complete all the work and try not to miss any classes and you'll do fine. Class is a lot of fun too.
If you're willing to engage yourself in classwork and discussions it can be fun. Your grade is based on a presentation (can be time consuming), 2 moderately easy vocabulary tests where you can use 2 pages of notes, short written assignments for discussions, a final essay and class work. Tip: show up to class to get full marks on class work!
I don't know why this professor is rated so poorly. Her class is fun, easy and provides you with useful information. There also isn't a huge workload like in other classes. Be prepared to follow the directions and you'll get a good grade.
It's an easy online class when you follow the rules and schedule. VERY caring and helpful teacher. Pretty easy grader. Missing a class might harm grades significantly. Tests are easy since it's online. People who took the online class and complained about spamming is cause they don't know how to use catalyst to turn off email notifications...
The assignments are tedious. The forums/classes seem ****. She labels people by their ethnic background. She does too much when grading papers. Expects you to elaborate on EVERY single detail. If you do not mention something SHE expects, you'll be graded down. On the bright side, if you do the work and attend class, you'll get an A+.
You'll work hard-- a way to have a good outcome is to be open to requested revisions. She is trying to make you a better writer/thinker. Be careful if you think this will be an easy elective course -lots of work, and you need to invest time in it. Tries to be fair in grading. Good class, very useful information. Would recommend.
Great class, if you're not a shy person. A lot of class interaction and communication. There is a moderate amount of work, but you can get good grades as long as you do your work and put some effort into it.
The best instructors I've ever had.High level of communication to insure our success,if committed. Her subject matter knowledge is excellent,as well as her past interaction with students. With this background, she makes sure she supplements the class content with real life experience. She cares and it shows. Loved this class and learned much!!
Piper runs a tight ship. It is not hard to get a good grade if you know what is expected of you from day one (and she makes it very clear). She is quick to respond to questions, emails, etc., and you can count on her being understanding if something comes up (for example, if your group partner flakes on you). I would highly recommend her.
Piper is a great teacher! I had her Intercultural Communications 7 hybrid class from 6:30-10:15. This class may seem long on paper, but Piper keeps it interesting throughout the entire duration of class. She makes the class feel like a 2 hour class. Piper is also very helpful and willing to go the extra mile to help you understand. Highly recommend
Piper is a great teacher! Very respectful, informed and helpful. She doesn't take crap so don't pull out your cell phones and you gotta be on time. She spends a lot of class time organizing her things, though, so be prepared to sit and wait a while. She encourages students to get to know each other and she's approachable. Great professor overall.
This class is really interactive,so be prepared to meet people and chat it up.Shes semi-strict(no cellphone txting or she gets really anal),but she is really understanding and will try to help you out.But passing depends on doing this powerpoint with a partner.I got a W because both my partners dropped. It's not McNultys fault at all..maybe a little
The group project kinda sucks because you can't choose your partner and maybe stuck with some lazy kid that doesn't want to do his fair share. But then again, that's real life... Tests are easy and written assignments are thought provoking and generally fun to do. All I have to say about in class environment is: VERY interactive.
Piper is a great professor. She gets the class involved in interacting with each other through discussions and group work. It's a great way to meet your classmates. She also helps you out a bunch. Her tests were easy and her assignments were reasonable. There's a partner presentation, but as long as you work together, it won't be too bad.
Attendance isn't mandatory, unless there was a class activity, but she is very lenient with makeup assignments. Very interesting class, also counts as a speech class (SPCH 7), fun and engaging, half lecture half discussion, she's a funny teacher, I recommend taking her! Just make sure you do the assignments on time so they don't pile up!
Very manageable class. Piper is more than willing to work with students. You will learn a lot about how you communicate & how to communicate with others of different backgrounds. Many extra credit opportunities offered through various ways (Ex: presentations where you share an ethnic foods). Overall, I recommend!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. THIS TEACHER IS THE WORST NO WONDER SHE IS ONLY PART-TIME!!! Her discussions are boring and about herself, she is way too picky on her grading. Basically if you don't write what she wants to read you will be graded down and probably fail. The partner presentation project is way to specific it makes it no fun!
Let me make it CLEAR. This class is so useless and so time consuming for pointless assignments. She grades as if shes a English Guru. VERY bias, so if she doesnt like what you wrote, your screwed. I'm getting a B+/A- and still think shes a ZERO! Horrible experience. This was my hardest class in terms of workload (Engineer major) STAY AWAY FROM HER!
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS FROM THIS TEACHER. She is interested in you doing things HER way, not in you learning anything. Her instructions for submitting assignments are LONG and way too detailed. You will lose points if you don't submit work EXACTLY as she want it. LOTS of work, mostly busywork. Run for the hills rather than take a class from her!!
The worst class EVER! I mean, a test to see if you know the instructions for a presentation? Crazy! JUST MAKE IT LESS CONFUSING! The whole class is confusing, all about her, and to top it all off, out of date! Get with the times Piper!
DO NOT TAKE HER. She is the worst. She's super passive aggressive and hostile. She gives you a course packet that is way too detailed and wordy that you are confused all quarter long trying to figure it out. Her grading is ridiculous. Her class is boring and she talks about herself a lot. Everything you do in that class is busy work and pointless.
This class is a fun and useful class to take, I learned lots of different cultures communication skills from it. There are variety of people in our class which helped us to learn from different cultures. Although there is a main presentation in the class, I think its still quite fun during the process. And there are lots of extra credit we can do.
It's an okay class. I basically just stared at my Ipad the whole time. Her lectures are fast paced that NO ONE takes notes. Mini essay other week. Piper loves to give feedback on your work, so take advantage of that. There's two tests and a partner presentation. Just take the class if you want it.
Piper's class is one of the best class I've ever took. She is a great teacher. Always available to answer questions and understandable with students' situations. The class is very informative. With a little effort, one would do well and learn a lot.
Teacher is not very clear with her requirements, hard to follow her ideas ; very rigid;
very strict and hard to follow up her strange standard. Keep away from her
Most classes give you a 1-2page syllabus, hers is 200 pages. If you don't follow her instructions word for word, you'll get points off. The majority of her lectures are filled with personal stories and her PPTs aren't helpful. She tries too hard to be organized, that it creates chaos. Do not recommend.
My first quarter of college and I was lucky enough to have Piper for Intercultural Communications! Her class is simple: Participate, complete the homework (so easy) and even get the chance to correct your homework assignments for more points!! Also did i mention EXTRA CREDIT GALORE?! Seriously, just ask questions, do the work, pass with an easy A.
As long as you're not lazy, this is a great class to take! Offers tons of extra credit, makes instructions clear, and gives good feedback. She responds very quickly to emails and will always get back to you on your Qs and concerns. She will pair you up with someone as your partner, but grades individually. Great teacher overall!
I consider this the best class I have ever taken in my 3 years. She speaks very clearly & softly. I dont think the work load was a lot; 2 exams & about 4 forum discussion papers we had to write which was nothing. 1 main assignment where you will be paired with someone from another ethnicity & present in front of the class. I passed the class w 100%
All ICS 7 teachers are terrible, however Piper is a little less terrible than the others. Definitely better than Mike Chang. She is SUPER DETAILED when it comes to everything as well and uses the ENTIRE class time. She's also one of those teachers that hates to miss class so she'll show up to class even if she's sick.
This was an intercultural communications class. If you do not have a culture/tradition in your family, I suggest you not take the class. It makes it so much difficult when it comes to the final project. ALSO, if you have not yet taken a Public speaking class, do so before taking this class. P.S. The tests are very hard! So make sure you study!!!
Piper is very straightforward with what she expects but if you fail to meet her guidlines exactly you will be docked points. This info is written in a 170 pg course packet which you are required to purchase. That being being said, it is very easy to receive an "A" if you follow her rules exactly. She is lenient, helpful, and great overall.
Professor McNulty is one of those teachers who grades a little tough, and class is slow, but learned alot. Grading is really weird and 1/3 is on participation in class and you wont see your score till the last week. 50 point Extra Credit is your best friend in this class 900-1000 points is an A. Do you homework, projects, and attend. Test are hard.
Piper is a great teacher. It was a super easy class, it really depends on you. She lets you turn some things late. She gives you so much time for your final group project. She's a little specific on what she grades, but the assignments are easy once you know what she looks for. Tests are easy, you get to bring your own notes. Fantastic teacher.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. If you are international student or English is not good, dont take it. Professor is really strict. And the class is so boring and really useless. There are many bad things in the class so Many.
She is overall a nice teacher but she tends to be unspecific with her lessons. It's a cultural class so if you are of a foreigner in the US, I don't recommend you to take her class. Other than that, her tests are manageable and allows a cheat sheet and participation matters.
She's an ok teacher, the material is very interesting to learn but her teaching style during lectures are quite boring. Her grading style is very confusing and seemingly unnecessary. I did learn a lot of unique communication styles. Also, she lets us works in groups which is fun and makes the time pass a lot faster.
She's done beautifully. Her lecture is full of what to learn and her examples are very unique. I loved it. I'm an international student, so I needed lots of support. She was always caring even about it. I've never met a kind teacher like her here in the US, and back in Japan. I can't thank her enough. She is the best.
She gives many oppotunities to get extra credits. And what's more, she lets you revise the homework after turning in to get better points. She's very caring IF you ask for help. Take her and ask for help at anytime if you want to succeed.
I wouldn't recommend anyone except her. If you want to get an A or more, you should take her not because she's an easy grader, but because she's caring.
Such an amazing professor, you can tell she is passionate about what she teaches. Her grading is a lil tough and confusing, however; her class is definitely doable! Make sure you read carefully and do the work, and definitely do as much extra credit as u can!
Piper is a mediocre teacher. The class is an easy A, but sometimes it seems like she's not all that organized & unclear about her instructions for assignments & group projects. She is very patient with all the questions that get asked, but sometimes it would be nice to not need to ask so much. I took the hybrid class so manage your time well.
This class leaves you severely restricted; lacks freedom. Her style of teaching is old & outdated nor does she make it interesting. You HAVE to do things HER way, specifically Wording. Her organizations works for (only) her, but not so much for the class at all. TBH She asks for too much. I wish I could've dropped when I had the chance.
Mcnulty is a semi tough grader. Her lectures are dull and she makes you do these weird projects. The good news is she lets you use notes for the midterm and final, she lets you hand things in late for full/partial credit. Just do all the work and the revisions she asks you to do and you will be fine. This class is chill & an easy A.
She is unorganized and emails you every weekend, expecting you to read these and get back to her ON YOUR SPARE TIME. She is unorganized. She is no mono-toned during lecture. Her homework assignments are harder than her tests. The calendar in C.P. is very vague. She assigns a text that she wrote with lots of grammatical errors. Unclear h.w. guidelin
I absolutely loved her. She really loves people who participate so don't hesitate to! There isn't much work involved, just one quarter long project. The project is easy and fairly informal, and if you ask her for feedback online she will automatically give you 100% on the three "DQ'S" as well as the project paper. Plus she gave 100+ points of EC!
Her class was very informative and she has a lot of experience and insight in the ICS subject, but her grading was a little annoying. Lots of ways to lose points just on the formatting of papers or on how you name a document. However, she offers a lot of extra credit opportunities, so you should have no problem trying to secure an A. Solid choice.
Piper gives very good feedback for homework and allows students to update their homework to get better grades. She cares students' needs and is ready to help students who face academic or even personal difficulties.
The lectures and activities in this class are honestly so boring but it is still an easy A. She has study guides for each test and allows two sides of paper for notes. The group project will suck if you have a bad partner but it wasn't that bad. If you are Asian and speak English moderately well HIGHLY recommended. She loves all things Asia.
She absolutely is TERRIBLE ar grading and lecturing. It is a known fact you cannot learn if youre forced to memorize word for word definitions, and thats her. Absolutely terrible considering she teaches communications and should know how people work. Plus no breaks, and even made a student present before class even started
Professor McNulty has been helpful so far during my quarter with her. It will be an easy class if you listen to her and do everything she wants you to do. She give a lot of extra credit which can help you get an easy A if you are a B student. I would recommend to take her! Peace
I loved working with Piper because she is willing to listen to you. She will work due dates and late assignments with you because she understands that life can get in the way for anyone. VERY FLEXIBLE. You can talk to her about ANYTHING. I also learned a lot from this class and from her :)
I love teaching style and group project. A lot of opportunities for extra credit.
