easily one of the best teachers i've ever had. maggie is extremely approachable, helpful and insightful. the course load can be tough but fair, and she is passionate enough about her job to spark interest in her students.

The Women's Lit class Professor Shear teaches runs like a history class more often than not; if you don't like history, don't go for this. If you like a teacher who loves the material and cares about everybody that walks in the classroom, you NEED to take this class. One of the best teachers at SSC. The class was amazing.

Maggie is a very kind person who loves her job, she will help you out at anytime. I have come to her 5 minutes before class and she took the time out to help me. She wants everyone to succed

Just finished Maggie's Women's Literature course & I absolutely LOVED everything about it! On the very first day, she was discussing some of the pieces that we were going to get into, and when she asked a question I had to catch myself because I almost jumped out of my seat to answer. She finds a way to make even the boring things enjoyable.

This class was very interesting. I enjoyed the professor very much.

I am so happy I took this class. The material was interesting on it's own, but Maggie made it come alive. The workload wasn't anything unreasonable, so there is no reason not to get an A. She is an amazing professor with vast knowledge and a killer sense of humor.

Margaret Shear is a amazing, funny, and non-boring English professor. She gives you plenty of time to study, and do assignments. She can be very funny at times, and her conversations, lectures, and stories are attention getting.

She is very intelligent. Knows her material and is very easy to come up for help. Gives great analogies when lecturing. Her analogies give insight to her personality which makes it easier to communicate with her and enhances comfortability.

Very inspirational class, engaging lectures, and dedicated professor. If you are willing to read the assigned material, that you are given in advanced, and willing to stretch your mind to analyze the texts, then you will definitely pass the class and take so much more out of the class when you leave. Highly recommend this course.

Personally I absolutely love Mrs. Shear. She is by far one of the best teachers that I've ever had. I love that she doesn't baby her students but she does give clear directions and will always work around someone's circumstances.

Professor Shear is awesome. I was comprehensive about taking the course at first but I went ahead tried it out. Professor Shear made this class fun to attend. She is very fair, gives good, constructive criticism, and an all around fun person. She's very animated and compassionate about her work. I will recommend this class to anyone.

She was a great professor. She gives good feedback on our assignments on how we can improve and make it better the next time. There was a clear grading scale, simple. Her lectures was very informative! The study guides was great as well before taking the test. The material and understanding the concept of the course was smooth.

Mrs. Shear is a magnificent professor because she explain everything with clarity in a very concise way. She help you to understand each topic, so the student can be able to develop with sense all that is pertaining to the assignment that is given. I truly recommend her.

Had personal problems at home and missed quite a few days, but had no problem teaching while in class. The textbook that was used, class handouts, and the lectures during classes left very few questions to be askedvery clear instructions.

Overall, Maggie is a wonderful teacher that gives clear detail on what she expects as well as what she knows we can accomplish. She does not make us do unnecessary work, but she does make sure that we complete the work necessary for this course.

Absolutely wonderful, have taken her for 101 as well. She has great communication and always lets us know when something has change when it comes to class. She is very approachable and answers any question one might have. Probably my favorite teacher at SSC. I really liked how she broke down our 10 pg paper into sections.

She is an overall good teacher and she explains everything she would like for your paper to have and the requirements that need to be met. Just pay close attention in class because she does not like to answer questions she has already answered in class, which is something I personally do not agree on. Otherwise, easy and good class.

I thought English class in college would be hard based of my friends' opinions, but Maggie Shear made it easy as possible

Her class was easy, I enjoyed every lectures. when it came down to essays, she was very helpful, explained to us what we did wrong and what we could do to fix it.

Maggie is by far one of the best teachers I've had during my run here at SSC. Her lectures are fun and engaging and she is always has a great story to tell. And the best part? 4 tests and 4 exams throughout the whole semestereasy as pie and no final! Who doesn't love that?

Her class is not difficult, as long as you're there you'll pass and when not able to come there is another professor there to lecture, most of the time. I would recommend that you take this class taught by her.

I had shear this past spring, I thought that me not being a good writer might be my downfall. Taking her I completely threw out that notion. She is very lenient in her grading. Most of the time you have a five page paper except for the last it's 10. No homework at all graded primarily on papers would've gotten an"A" but didnt do the full 10 pgs.

Maggie is a real champion of a professor! She has a great personality, and she's very attentive and understanding. She made English II quick and painless.

The class isn't hard at all to do all you have to do is show up and listen, and of course answer a couple of questions every now and then, but overall it was great. And she's pretty funny.

i love the way she breaks down each topic to the student understanding. wasn't much of assignment like the last English class i took. i really learnt a lot in her class and especially enjoyed the Hansberry play. Kudos Maggie for job well done!!!

The class was really interesting! The articles we read in class were relevant to what still occurs today. Ms. Shear has a great sense of humor and is always very optimistic, which is what I think students need to become more motivated. The class discussions are quite stimulating because people can bring up their own personal opinions to the table.

She is hilarious and engages the class. She tells you what she expects in your assignment and gives you enough time for the assignments. She is very flexible and makes life easy for her students. Sweet treats last day of the semester. I will definitely take her class over and over again. Also, i would recommend her.

A professor that really cares about her students' success and the students as a person. She treats them like adults. She. pushed us outside of our comfort zone when it came to writing but in the best way possible. Became a better writer at papers because of her.

Awesome professor! I love her and she makes classes fun and will go in detail about the readings. She loves what she does and its amazing how that particular aspect of her allows students to want to attend classes and be involved.

She is a great teacher... when she shows up. Check to see if your class is canceled before you go! We had 0 tests!! Just a couple of papers. She even set up the last paper so you can use your old papers on it and parts of it are due along the way, so it made the final paper super easy! I liked her so much that I wish she showed up more!

Ms. Shear is a great teacher. She knows her stuff and loves what she does which gives her the enthusiasm that makes the class enjoyable. Ms. Shear is also accessible out of class whether by email or office hours.

A great and fun teacher to take and to interact with. Will always give a fair grade as well as feedback, and is not above inside jokes when used in the proper context and places. May have an annoying number of cancelled classes, pushing back the timescale, though.

A great instructor, I learn a lot of things in her class. She is really funny and make the class more easy. Also, this class and her assignments help me to have more knowledge about research papers.

Shes a great teacher. Funny and easy going. She told us all the time work smarter and not harder. She made the midterm and final straightforward and it was exactly the review sheet. The 8 page research paper was also not that bad as she split up a lot of the assignments. My only con is that she takes a while to pass back/grade work...

Her lectures break down the text in the most simplistic way and if anyone did not read the textbook, she gave a clear synopsis of each chapter. I wish I was able to take her Women's Literature course. I most definitely recommend her classes to anyone.

I should have done this in spring but here is my review, her class is not that hard but be aware of midterm and final exams because not all of the questions are from the book.

Margaret shear is a fine professor. The lectures she teaches are very beneficial to the work she gives out even if the assignment is small she makes examples of her life and jokes about it.

Although the course consists of writing many papers, she gives very detailed instructions. She allows students to review each others papers for feedback along with her feedback. Will say attendance is mandatory because she is strict on her syllabus and does not waste any time. Her high energy every morning makes the class pass by fast!

I put down "so many papers" because my class had to catch up after our original professor went on medical leave. Therefore, we hardly used our book, but she weaved some book info in here and there. I would 10/10 recommend Maggie because she graded well, was funny, and was able to teach us what we needed to in a short amount of time. :)

Do not be scared of the 8 page research paper. It is honestly easy because the first 3 papers prepares you for it, and then you find out that 8 pages isn't enough! You will need the book the first week so get it ASAP. She is a great teacher, and she does read EVERY PAPER with great feedback!

Her womens literature class is very insightful . she really goes in depth with her lectures and shes very animated so you wont get bored during class . As long as you read and understand the time period of the discussion in which your covering is about then you should have no trouble testing .

One of the best teachers you'll ever have. She is the definition of caring and passionate over the subject she teaches as well of the students. I took her women's literature course over the summer and by the end I left very enlightened over the subject. I'm not even an English major, but just because of her i'm considering a minor in women's lit.

She encourages class participation but will go on enthusiastically without it. She is passionate about the subject matter and animated in delivering her lectures. Her expectations are clearly communicated via oral and written means. It is obvious she loves what she does. I highly recommend Ms. Shear, she is a treasure.

Maggie was a pretty good teacher, I'd take her class again. She did miss class a bit though, but she had her reasons. Quite a bit of essays to do, but it is an english class. Sometimes seemed a bit rude, but she may not have really meant it that way.

Although the class was remote the last 8 weeks due to coronavirus, Prof Shear was very understanding, and transparent. Honors class consists of 4 (3-4 page) essays on race, gender, social class, and then an analysis paper on Hansberry's A Rasin in the Sun. The final essay is a (8 pg min) research paper, and is paired with a short APA assignment.

With the pandemic going on, Ms. Shear tries her best to move and conduct the class through Moodle. The only tiny inconvenience is trying to locate back to lesson/assignments b/c it's not sectioned week by week. Other than that, she is honestly a great teacher. Straightforward, engaging, clear on assignments and does give great feedback on papers.

I loved Professor Shear's class. Due to COVID-19, she converted to using an online format. She posted online lectures and sent emails about updates. She extended deadlines a few times and allowed students to catch up. She structured the research paper into parts to make it easier. Occasional Zoom meetings might have been nice but not essential.

Professor Shear's women's literature class enlightens you about the history of women. You read works by various female authors and respond to questions. There are 4 essays total, 3-4 pages. There are 4 exams, multiple choice and short response. I enjoyed attending lectures, so Zoom meetings would be nice after COVID-19 required online teaching.

I really enjoyed my class with Maggie. She is erratic but lectures are interesting. Personal issues caused class cancellations but she extended many due dates with the online switch (COVID). Loved the essay topics (3-4 pgs) on Race, Gender, and Social Class. Research paper is 8 pgs on any or all of the topics listed. Excited for ENG208 in the fall!

I absolutely loved her class. I took her ENG101 class and took her again for Honors ENG102. The papers are easy to complete and she tells you what shes grading you on in advance so you know. Shes a very caring professor. Our class did have to convert to online because of the pandemic but she still tried her best to keep up with everything.

I really liked her 101 class in the spring, but I LOVED her 208 class this fall. Even with personal issues, she always communicates with her students. She and this class will probably stay with me forever. She gives the best lectures, great feedback, and she treats her students as equals. If you get the chance to take her, you won't regret it!!!
