This professor is extremely helpful, she is very knowledgeable about the subject wasnt looking forward to a communications course but this class turned out to be very helpful.
Very helpful, material is boring but she can be funny and keeps the atmosphere light. One project is a major part grade so pick a good group and it should be fine. Some effort, but overall, grades fairly. Weekly aplia quizzes are very easy, but takes about an hour a week.
Unfair with grading policy, currently working on disputing grade.
The BEST teacher I have had at UTD! Lectures are interesting and she makes them fun. No exams. If you take all your online weekly quizzes and submit all assigments you should do great. You will love her! The average grades were As and Bs.
I agree with the comment below. She is absolutely the best professor I have had at UTD so far. 3 assignments, a group project, and Aplia quizzes (easy) about every week. NO TESTS. gives assignment for extra credit if needed. The subject can sometimes be dull but she makes it fun. Will more than likely receive an A-A+ in the class.
This class was fantastic. If you put the time and effort into the assignments and the group project you will have no problem. I highly recommend if you are having problems with an assignment to go to office hours. This professor is extremely helpful. Also, put some thought into who you want to be in you group for the final project.
Easy A.
I took her during the spring semester. Three HWs, one group presentation, & aplia (weekly quizzes online). She's really funny and nice. I don't think there are any better business communication professor out there. Take her! you won't regret!
Just do the work on time. She doesn't like late work. Be in class and and avoid using laptop, when she is lecturing! overall a great professor who really cares and very helpful
AWESOME PROFESSOR!!!! SHE TAKES THE TIME TO REVIEW YOUR ASSIGNMENTS BEFORE TURNING THEM IN! ABSOLUTELY ENJOYED HER CLASS. :)
Take her she's great. Class is online quizzes, 3 written assignments with revisions and a group project. The group project is the most work but not hard. 1 extra credit assignment. She is nice & helpful.
She's very helpful. 3 assignments, Aplia, and a group project. I'm a horrible writer and she helped me better and I got an A. Definitely recommend
She's big on deadlines and quality work. Having said that, I'd take it with her again. NO test, just aplia quizzes and the lowest one gets dropped. Just write, go to the bcc labs and you will do good.
Professor was always available to review assignments prior to due date. No tests!! One group project. Just select something that you are interested in and you will do well.
Professor Smallwood is very helpful, passionate about teaching and expects us to learn. She teaches life long skills. Start assignments early and have them reviewed prior to due dates. Strict due dates - start the last Project early and hold peers accountable for research. The business center is helpful. Consider these recommendations for an A.
was not looking forward to the class, like the class, learned to write better and it was not overwhelming. she's big on deadlines, take them seriously and turn in stuff when it is due. Take this class.
Very helpful professor! She is very organized with the class and makes sure every student knows what they need to do to make a good grade.
You need the online book in order to complete required class quizzes. Prof. Smallwood is very helpful and is extremely responsive and available. She makes it very clear what students need to do in order to receive a good grade.
I took Professor Smallwood for Professional Development. I would recommend her for either BA 3100,BCOM 3311, OR Adv BCOM. She's helpful, straightforward and seems to love what she does. The class itself is very easy if you just do the assignments. There's a reason her classes gets filled up really quickly so take her if you get the chance!
Hands down one of the best professors at UTD. Very helpful and gets assignments back to you with a quickness. Only the online textbook is required, but I personally didn't use it at all. Definitely take her class !!!
Margaret is one of the hidden gems of UT-D. She is very experienced in her field and incredibly dedicated to teaching future leaders. She is always available for her students’ questions and consistently grades papers fairly. She does not tolerate late or missing work and will help wrangle straggling members of group projects. Take her class!
Take her class, you will not regret it. She can be a little straight forward, and some people don't like that, I appreciated it. Easy to pass even if you are stuck with a bad team for the group project.
Great professor. Material its self a little bland but easy A if you just do the required work.
Real scattered around and not organized. She seems forgetfull to. Not taking her again.
Amazing professor. I will try and take her again for BCOM in the future. Very helpful and wants students to succeed. She knows how to make the material relate and keep you interested.
Assignments aren't tough, you just have to do them and show up for one hour every week. She's really enthusiastic and it makes the class tolerable and fun.
You may not have liked her or the class, but at least be professional and fair in what you say.
The class was easy and she graded each assignment fairly. Show up to class, participate and do the assignments.
Great professor. Very invested in students' success; gives great feedback on assignments and is very accessible outside of class. Very fair with grading and gives lots of extra credit. Checks in with groups about semester-long project very frequently, making it much less painful. Strongly recommend; plan on taking again for Advanced BCOM (4350).
THERE ARE 2 TWO EXAMS . ONE LOWEST GRADE DROP. THE PROFESSOR OPENS MANY WAYS TO EARN EXTRA BONUSES CREDITS.
Prof's amazing. I've had this prof. for 2 classes now and they're wonderful, clear-cut, and pretty easy if you put in the work. There's 2 exams, 1 final, and 1 paper. If you get a grade that you're happy with on the first 2 exams, you don't have to take the final OR take the final and it will replace your lowest test grade. Awesome Prof.
NO BOOK REQUIRED. Prof. is more than willing to meet with you if you should need help. The lectures are amazing and Prof. is a very passionate speaker. Open many ways to earn extra credits
Very likable professor . seems to really enjoy teaching students. The reviews for the test are extensive and descriptive.
This prof. is one of the best teachers I've ever had! The amount of material on each test can be easy (MUTIPLE CHOICES), but if you study the exam review a week or so ahead, you'll be okay. The tests can be easy, so you study hard independently to be successful in this class. An A in this class is easy, but it is attainable. HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR AL
Great teacher! The Professor hands you an A, but it's up to you to go and get it. You have to attend for the quizzes which are basically completion grades, and the two major tests are all open book online. If you care about your grade, you'll get your A. I also learned a bit as well. Opens many ways to earn extra bonuses credits.
Look at THIS TEACHER scores. They aren't lying. Easiest, most entertaining, and the most informative class I've ever taken. TEACHER will make you love and appreciate . I work and I'm often either late or absent for THIS class , but TEACHER won't punish you for that. Exams are a breeze, nothing tricky. Show up to class, take notes, and enjoy the sho

The coolest and funniest teacher out there. Don't question this, just take any of this classes. You won't want to miss them. And this professor is pretty adorable. 2 EXAMS . 1 LOWEST GRADE DROP. UNDERSTANDS THE NEED OF STUDENTS. EXTRA BONUSES CREDITS, YALL @UTD
I took her for summer bcom 3311. We had 2 written assignments and one major group projectpresentation with aplia assignments. She is a tough grader. Make use of her office hours and the BCOM center and you will get an A.
GREAT PROFESSOR!! I took her for Professional Development as well. Always energetic and funny! Make sure to do the extra credit because it will definitely help at the end. I enjoyed her class, although I thought the subject was a bit boring. No exams, expect group work (expected for BCOM). I would take her again! Grades attendance as well!
I took BCOM 3311 over summer so lectures were long and I felt that I was wasting my time. You definitely have to work for an A. You HAVE to do the online Aplia homework. I got A and did well on all the assignments and even did the extra credits. However, I got an A- just because of the group project (so choose competent teammates!)
One of the better professors at UTD. Strict grader, but it's necessary because this is a senior level course and you have to do a website as your final project which you have to show to potential employers (needs to be good). She's pretty clear about her criteria and is very open to help. Would take again.
Great teacher, very interesting and informative lectures. Assignments are all in the syllabus and instructions are clear. Attendance is mandatory and a big percentage of your grade. Would take again
Mrs. Smallwood was very helpful throughout the semester and she was very good at making sure everyone knew the material. She did give a lot of homework out but it was very simple and easy to understand (maybe took about 20 mins to complete). I would recommend her and definitely take her class again!
Professor Smallwood is a great professor overall. She has a sense of humor and is more than willing to help out her students. It is evident that she looks out for her students as she provides useful feedback on assignments/is truthful in her evaluations. The tips she gives us are pertinent for the business world. Taking her as a professor again!!
Professor Smallwood was a good teacher, her class is a lot of work but she works with you and helps you through it. She is really helpful and has clear guidelines about things. Attendance is mandatory and there are no tests, just one group project a few speeches and a few papers. Not that hard of a class.
Smallwood is a wonderful outgoing professor! She's super sweet and won't make you feel like you're falling behind in the class at all. Will make sure you are up to date on all assignments and deadlines. Go to class and it's an easy A!
Awesome Professor. Shows that she cares about the students and that they get something from the class. Is always ready to help and to give everyone the opportunity to do their best. Her class was enjoyable AND the work was great compared to other classes. If I was not graduating I would try to take her classes every time I could. Super funny lady.
Professor Smallwood was extremely helpful. Show up to class and turn in the assignments for an easy A.
I'm a finance major and so I don't enjoy anything without numbers, other than Prof Smallwood's class. Clear instructions, peer reviews and then get to make corrections before submitting final. Easy A if you just do the assignments. Had her for BCOM3100, BCOM3310 and about to take her for BCOM4350. She's a great teacher.
The book is needed because of online quizzes. She gives you lots of time to work on the group project. Fair grading, very clear explanations and expectations. Great professor for a mandatory class most people dont care for.
Easy class. Loved Professor Smallwood, she gets to the point. Weekly quizzes on Aplia and u can read the ebook if u want to do well on the quizzes. She gives plenty of time to do group project w/ peer reviews which is very constructive strategy to get us staying on track
The class in general is easy. Pretty much just completion grades and quizzes. Professor Smallwood is definitely a great lecturer and she cares about students. Just dont turn in crappy work because she does actually read and takes the time to give advice. As long you put effort into the assignments and show up you'll be fine.
I love this professor! She is a good person that wants to see her students pass her class. She gives good feedback. She explains every assignment and her expectations for each assignment completely. I would definitely recommend her to anyone! I wanted to take another course with her but it was full and that says it all. haha. Choose her if you can
FANTASTIC! Prof Smallwood is one of the sweetest, coolest professors here. She is super clear about everything she expects and grades very leniently as long as you do what she expects on time. The class I took was only a 1 hour class, so some people say there's too much work for only one hour, but she basically walks you through everything you need
There is a LOT of work for this one hour class, but everything is essentially a completion grade. Smallwood gives great feedback on assignments. Lots of guest speakers. One group presentation and one informational interview with a non-UTD professional. You will need a Bloomberg Business Week subscription.
Smallwood is Amazing! Great personality, really caring, and a great educator! Super clear in expectations, does a review of upcoming homework and events each class, extremely generous on grading. Only requirements: be present and turn in assignments. I wish I had taken her for my other BCOM classes.
One of my favorite professors at UTD!! Public speaking and group presentation have never been my thing but the professor made it somewhat enjoyable. I can't say I love doing presentations but I definitely enjoyed being in her class for the entire semester. Loved every single class listening to her lectures and stories. LOVE HER!!
I loved her class and the way she teaches and I learned a lot in her class but I am not happy with the way she graded my work. Take her but be carefuller with your team members. I personally think she was one of the best teachers in UTD.
She is a good professor, I took her last semster. She cares about this subject and her students. As a student you just need to go to class and work well in a team and you will do well. The class is not difficult at all, like every class you will need to put in some what of an effort in order to get a good grade.
She's an amazing human being! I loved having her as a professor this semester. She's very caring, funny, and an easy grader.
Just take her, its the easiest thing ever and you don't do alot of hw and her quizes are like common sense, the class is a joke, if you don't get an A there's something wrong with you.
If you complete every assignment and go to every class you'll get an A. Assignments were very easy and needed minimal effort. Only downside was this class was an 8am, but she was somewhat lenient with tardiness - you're only allowed one absence.
She's very friendly and interesting. This class is great to take for the summer. We had two group presentations, and one individual presentation where you present your own professional website. She always give good feedback after you present. When you visit her during office hours, she's a great help. I respect her as a teacher and a person.
The best BCOM professor that I have had. She is great!! The individual assignments are fair and easy, and she grades fairly. There was no test in the class, but her lectures were interesting and engaging. Also, she has a great character and is always available for her students. By far a magnificent professor!!
Save yourself the unnecessary stress and trouble. Take someone else if you can. She thinks she explains her assignments during lectures but she does not. She leave things out and she will count off for it. When you try to ask her about it she will look at you sideways and tell you there is nothing she can do about it.
Good professor. Just show up to class and do the assignments. Would recommend
Shes tough but fair. If you come to class and pay attention, youll do well. She really cares about her students. People who dont come to class or pay attention or work hard have trouble with everyone else does fine. Take her!
She's by far one of the best professors in UTD!! I won't say she's easy but she's fair. There are two group presentations, several team assignments, and individual assignments. She cares about her students, very enthusiastic, and engaging. She is also very helpful and reachable outside of class. She made public speaking much easier!
Her class should be an easy A+ but she's a harsh grader. She will take off for the smallest errors. She manages to stretch out lectures from what should be a 20 min lecture to an hour long. She treats her students as if they're in high school which is by far the most annoying aspect of her class. We're all adults here, bro, treat us like one.
Hands down, one of the BEST professors at UTD. She's VERY understanding, caring, and hilarious. She's real and treats students like adults. I've taken her for BCOM 3301 & 4350 for a reason. Assignments are mostly group projects, she gives great feedback, make sure to come and do the work for that easy A! TAKE HER CLASS!!
A lot of very easy work. She is incredibly passionate about what she does, is fast with getting back grades that all have extensive feedback. One group project that is worked on piece by piece throughout the semester. One practice presentation and one final. Very easy grader and really wants students to learn and be engaged. Incredible professor
This is my third time taking her. She has always been consistent and clear with her grading. Put in the effort and you will make an A. I don't understand how anyone could make an A-minus or below.
i loved prof smallwood. you have to work for your grade but its relatively easy. online quizzes every week, individual and BGB group assignment. have a good team for BGB and dont procrastinate, its a great opportunity! highly recommend
Professor Smallwood is AMAZING. She really tries to get to know you on a personal level, and she'll reward you if she sees a genuine attempt. Some online Cengage quizzes, occasional assignments. One big group project spread across the semester. Big on attendance. She's also really funny and makes lectures entertaining. TAKE HER!
Professor Smallwood is very passionate and eccentric. You will never have a boring class. She does not BS around. She is a fair grader but does not put up with a lot of crap. If you try she will help you succeed. I recommend taking her.
Wonderful Professor a UTD. Passionate during her lectures and always gives great feedback on presentations. There were 6 online quizzes from the inexpensive textbook, Four group presentations, and 3 short essays. Class attendance is required and she takes roll everyday.
There were online quizzes (homework) from the online book which you could just skim and answer. Book was accessible during the quizzes. Theres one major group project which is split into a presentation and report. Theres also many short individual assignments, they're not hard
She's a very smart and caring professor. There are many tedious department mandated assignments on Cengage and the whole class is based off of a major group presentation, but she structures the course in a way that is helpful rather than burdensome to students. You get 3 free absences. She's the best professor to take this class with.
Professor Smallwood is a great professor. Her grading criteria is straightforward. There is one group project, but the assignments aren't difficult. Attendance is mandatory, and her lectures are very interactive. You can tell she cares about her students and wants to see everyone become successful. Make sure to attend class and turn in assignments.
Professor Smallwood is a great professor. She is super informative, sweet, and cares about every single student. You are much more than just a number to her. This class wasn't hard at all, just don't procrastinate too much and turn everything in on time and you will be fine. This is the best professor to take this class with!
Professor Smallwood is really nice and understanding. She talks about the assignments that are about to be due. She is very clear about her grading criteria and will give you feedback. I would 100% recommend her!
Typical communications course with lectures over business ethics and guidelines. Lots of small projects and one big final group project. Nothing out of the ordinary for this type of class. Show up because she takes attendance.
She always take off points. Even though you write a perfect essay without any mistakes, you cannot get a 100.
Assignments are fairly easy. Entire semester's work is laid out from the first day of class so there are no surprises. Showing up to class is a must; lectures are boring, but the penalty is steep if you miss more than 1 class.
Her BCOM 4350 class is a breeze. No tests or quizzes, just assignments and presentations. Make sure you pick a good team. She is very understanding if you have any problems. You can tell that she really cares and wants to help students.
Took Adv Bcom summer online and it was the most organized online class I've ever taken and actually pretty useful for professional life. Major assignments: group team presentation and build your own website (was kinda fun) and weekly quizzes on a free online book(very helpful one too). Her classes get full fast, so add her as early as possible!
She is a very caring professor and really wants her students to learn skills they can take into the work force. Would definitely recommend her!
I loved professor Smallwood. She really cares about her students. The class is pretty straightforward. Took it fully online. Just 2 open note tests. There is a big portfolio project but I think that was required in every class and she made it much easier for us than other professors from what I heard She modified a few things and explained it well
Professor Smallwood definitely loves her job. She is caring and will work with you if you reach out. Tests are open note/open book and one big portfolio that I had fun with. The course has a lot of busy work and discussion boards but that helps maintain a good grade because they're all easy assignments. Overall Professor Smallwood made class fun
Excellent professor! Really wants you to succeed in the class and does her best to keep you up to date and informed on all assignments. The course has quite a bit of work that takes some time, but I really enjoyed her class.
3 unit exams, all content comes from Northouse text AND lecture slides she provides in class. All study guides given in the beginning of the semester. One group project. it's a lot of work but it's not difficult. You get better grades if you go to class. Fill out guide during lecture for best time management. She is super kind and easily accessible
She gives three tests, a group project, and a bunch of homework which is due every Monday and Wednesday. Her tests are super hard and extremely long. I would chose her as a second option at best, when taking this class. Chose a different professor.
The professor was very kind and understanding, she even allowed us to attend through Teams, which was convenient for me. I felt as though the exams were not rerpesentative of my knowledge of the material. I know they're departmental, but even the study material was extremely lackluster. The group project was unenjoyable and harshly graded.
BCOM 4300 was probably the most useless class Ive taken out of all of my courses at UTD. The content is elementary - middle school level but the multiple choice test qs are so subjective that no matter how much you study, it will be very hard to find the right answer. Even the prof would get confused when going through practice problems in class.
AMAZING professor, her lectures were pretty straight forward but the exams are intense. We get to have one cheat sheet with us for exams which help a lot. Not many assignments except for the portfolio at the end of the semester which is loooooong. But I would really recommend taking this professor, she is really helpful and easy grader!!!
Professor Smallwood gives detailed and helpful lectures. You will do well as long as you do exactly what she says (take lecture notes, read textbook, complete study guide, complete practice problems, etc.). She always clarifies due dates and criteria for assignments/projects to set students up for success. Definitely a fantastic professor!
Shes always open for questions through email and she does care about her students. Be aware she will make you wear a mask. Other than that do the study guide questions, create the page of notes as you go, ask questions, work on portfolio early and get early feedback. With that lab and assigned reading, plan ahead and be ready to read!
All of my classmates liked her at the beginning of the semester, but when we knew our grade at the end of the semester, everyone hates her. She is a tough grader, it is almost not possible to get an A in this class. Her test review materials are not useful for her tests. Even she is a nice person, if you want a good grade, don't take her classes.
Professor Smallwood is a very caring professor who knows well what she teaches. She makes every lecture engaging and provides students with many resources and opportunities to succeed. The exams for BCOM are hard but smallwood does her best to prepare students with additional resources. Overall an excellent professor I recommend for BCOM.
I had her both for BCOM 3300 and BCOM 4300 and still easily the best BCOM professor there is. Her lectures are detailed, her email reminders are useful. The exams are tough and I had the slides on them and still made Bs. Try Option 2 if you can. Saved me from B+. Use her test prep resources and ask questions, very caring but not an easy class
Take her for both BCOM classes if possible. Really cares about the students in her classes, and will try to assist you in passing if you're struggling. Tends to curve exams and grade things easily.
By far the best choice for BCOM. She is genuine and does her best to help you succeed. She has amazing lectures and prepares you the best she can for exams. She gave our class a lot of points back since the grades were bad. She graded the group project generously and gave us a lot of class time.
I really enjoyed taking Professor Smallwood's class. She cares about her students and is always happy to help. This is the one class I felt that I learned something because she is so thorough with the material. The end of the year project is hefty but doable, and she gives you plenty of time to perfect it and ask for feedback.
ill said it and said it once. She is the best bcom prof in the UTD
The BEST Bcom professor you could ever have. Puts in so much effort to make class fun!! She does her best to make sure you do well in the class. You do have a lot of work in the class but I'm pretty sure that is every BCOM class. Overall enjoyed being in her class. She does a great job of teaching the material in the class.
