Man-hating feminist. Piles on so much unneccesary work. Seems like she's on some power trip, as most feminists are. Most importantly though, she gives you so much work, as if you have no life outside this one class. De Anza should fire her.

really knows her stuff! I don't know where the feminist comments are coming from - she may seem unapproachable, but she's actually very nice. There's a fair bit of reading, but nothing crazy excessive. structures the class so that students will succeed

she's incredibly boring. dont take her class...she'd make you fall asleep...plus, she makes you READ so much stuff and 90% of the stuff you read are unrelated to the midterms...the good thing is she tells you all the answers to the quizes before u take it

She's a great teacher! Don't listen to other people, they shouldn't be at school if they don't want to learn. As long as you do the readings and pay attention in class, everything will be fine. Takes some time to read, but not like impossible to finish.

Quizs are easy but midterm and final are very difficult. Midterm and final worth much more than quizs. A lot of works (in class and take home) to do. At least 1-2 works to do every week. Group discussion are huge.

Her class isint the easiest, but if you actualy like History this is a good chance to learn alot. If you take notes you will score A's and B's on her Essay Exams and if you do the reading at home you will also do well. Class discussions also help out a ton and I had a great time in the class

I've taken with her 3 classes w/ her. If anyone knows her, its me. SHE IS DAMN EASY. She's really nice, and especially easy in her 4 series. I would take her as many times as i could. But you have to do your part, a class isn't a class if you dont learn. READ, DO HOMEWORK, TAKE NOTES YOULL BE FINE.

She has a very biased view of history. She only focuses on minorities and women and how oppressed they've been throughout human existance. I sleep through every boring lecture. I guess an easy class if you can get through her lectures. she's rude and condesending to students. avoid her if possible.

She teaches her own book that she makes you buy for $40 and cant reuse it or sell it hands it to you as stack of pages not stapled or anything and you have to read A LOT. I was excited about class before but now I wont take any of her classes. Take with a friend a lot of group work! NEXT PLEASE!

Her class is easy because she puts the day's agenda on the board, as well as the homework. Unfortunatley, she gets annoyed by students who have accents and refuses to help those students. She is clear and doesn't have that "fall asleep" voice. She talks about the oppression of women and minorities.

She's a good teacher...very organized lecture..nevertheless very much boring. It's easy if you stay up on your work, she has group quizes and her midterms and finals are just essays which you get the prompt before hand. But she's still a hard grader.

Good teacher, uses lots of primary sources and other information instead of a textbook. Exams are essays and are easy As/Bs if you have any idea what you are talking about. She does not put up with any crap, and if you are not interested in the class take someone else, or goof off at your own peril. Emphasis on group and class discussion.

it's easy as long u have someone in ur grp whose major is history. lots of grp quizes. midterms are all essays. she's cool. really nice person so check out her office hour, ask her everything u need to know for the essay part. i am very lazy person and i earned an A. i wonder if that helps. i know the reading is boring, but hey READ! it will help!

I actually miss her class. The course went smoothly and there's nothing tricky about her quizzes, exams and final. Everything could be found in your notes. She teaches right on the point as well and welcomes opinions from students.

the class is really easy. stevens is a pretty good professor, but if you already have a good amount of knowledge about history her lectures will bore you. to top it off, she often doesn't speak loudly enough. plus points for the fact that she encourages questions though.

She covers the material well so that if you attend class and take notes, you should do very well. Perhaps it's a personal thing for her, but she's very grumpy and has little patience. She is a difficult instructor to work with if you have any special needs or questions outside the class discussion.

Ms Stevens is not the most interesting History teacher at DeAnza, but is up there amongst the best. She is always there to help her students, but comes off a lil cold at first. Attendance is mandatory, and lectures range from snoooozers to somewhat interesting. You do weekly read/write HW which is easy points. Easy Pass if you go to class!!!

half the class was failing... majority who rated her make her sound tolerable... i couldnt stand her for more than 10 mins... i wouldnt suggest taking her. you take 1 exam, and do hella small papers, and some frequent papers. if u screw up on the exam... then its good game. take someone else. trust me

Never ever take her class! She is a terrible prof. Even though I got A in the class, I earned it on my own. She is a very hard grader. She provides little help.Workload definitely flow you away. Tests are very very very hard. And you have to read a lot on your own. She is the worst, terrible, horrible instructor I have ever met in my life.

She is very hard! She requires you to read a lot, and you have to attend every class to earn particpation points. A lot of homeworks, about 25 writing assignment are required throughout the quarter. She seems unwilling to provide help. Don't bother to ask her question. Tests are very hard.. Ready to extremely well-prepared to get pass ..

Mrs. Stevens is an Awesome prof! she is very clear and precise with her lectures. She tells you exactly what you need to know for the tests. I had her for hist 4a, 4b, and 17a...I've gotten A's in all her classes. As long as you attend her lecture, you will be fine. Also, her tests are pretty student friendly. =)

she is the most boring teacher i ever had. her lectures are completely monotone. but on the positive side you don't need to do any reading if you just listen to her lectures- if you manage not to fall asleep. i recommend study groups before writing the essays and you'll do fine- its not a lot of work but not any fun

Really enjoyed this class because you learn a lot from her lectures. The tests aren't hard at all if you attend the class and take some notes. Hw every week but helpful too, some video reports to earn some points and there's extra-credit too. She might look mean but she's really not.

Nice and understanding- especially if you let her know who you are. She HATES when you come late or leave early, & may not let you in if you arrive more than 10 minutes late. It's in your best interest to take notes, & reference the book to study. There's extra credit & she's very clear about what she wants for assignments. I'd recommend her.

Rock'on Stevens! The way in which you go about understanding the way life use to be is magnificent. Don't be scared to drop people out of your groups that are not pulling their weight. The reading was very intense but completely spectacular selection. Go ACHILLES!!! =)

For those of you taking the DL version of this class. Three exams ON campus. Memorize people, battles, country involvement, and key artifacts. No dates. Exams are all multiple choice. Textbook website has chapter quizzes. She gets questions for exam from there. Make-up exam is 5 things from the missed exam chapters you have to summarize.

I took HIST4D in Fall 2007. Her lecture was clear to understand, and she is not so hard grader. 2 mid-terms and 1 final in-class essays. One additional paper. She gave us some extra credits and quizes(pretty easy!) A+ is possible as long as you attend the class consistently.

Professor STevens is a mediocre teacher. She just gives her lectures based on an outline and gives us quizzes every two days on readings. Her lectures are kinda dry and she doesn't really explain it very well or elaborate. She's really grumpy most of the days and takes it out on students. She's not a hard grader so it's not hard to get an A.

Where do I start. She's the worst professor I've ever had. She has so much anger inside and takes it out on her students. She doesn't really know much about the subject. I didn't personally take this class but she taught the class right before my Poli1 class last quarter. When I walked in, I heard her talking to students and she was SO RUDE every single day. As soon as the clock hit 20-past, everyone literally RAN out of the room. My friend who took the class, failed it. I highly caution against her.

Dont know why this teacher got bad ratings.. must be those idiots who dont care about school. This class is easy. SIT IN THE FRONT AND PAY ATTENTION. i didnt even read the book and got an A. Assignments every other week, make sure you answer the question thoroughly or she will deduct a lot of points. Easy class.

The keys to excelling in this class are to SIT IN FRONT, make eye contact, and raise your hand (you gain major brownie points as long as you take a risk and don't be shy). There is never a textbook, only small books and novels all covered by spark notes. Essays aren't bad if you study. She LOVES when people come to her office for personal help!

Had a B in the class and got a "0" on the final because I "overanswered" the final essay, which gave me a D. Accused me of cheating and I told her I read everything from the book she wrote. Then she tried to say I didn't answer the question but as she read it in front of me, clearly I did. I had to beg her to read my final again to change my grade.

She is a great professor, a complete history expert! You would be lucky to have her because you will learn a lot. If your don't love history naturally, you can still get an A as long as you sit in front, READ THE BOOKS, participate in discussions, and ask questions! She loves people who are verbal and going to her office is a really good idea!

Great professor. All about the subject, lectures go right with the textbook and strictly follow class outline. SIGN-IN attendence everyday. Tests are short MC and 4-paragraph essays. Short paper assignments for videos. Some EC. Can be a little bias on some views but is open to discussion. History's not my subject but I could sit through her lecture

To those who intend to take the online history 3A class: the online class is extremely difficult to comprehend as the textbook is very dense with information and you never know what you will be tested on. The teacher seems very approachable but if you are unavailable to see her during her class hours you are SOL. DO NOT TAKE 62z

She is an easy teacher if you listen to the lectures, read the book, and do the work on a daily basis. Before this, I hated history but after, I really liked it b/c I actually understood it. She'll help you out if you go to office hours at least ONCE a month b/c then she knows you're trying and she might even help your grade out

She is truly one of the most interesting Prof i have come across.Her class opened my eyes to world events.Record the videos and you will guaranteed score full marks on papers. She goes verbatim by the book and you can follow along just high lite the lecture and come exam time you will be fine. Gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit. Easy -A

I took her for 4B and she was so good I'm taking 4C. Her lecture is very clear. All the points come from two things, quizzes and the writing midterms. Before each quizzes she goes over the question and all of them are exactly based on the lecture. For midterms you get to bring an outline and she gives you the midterm question at least a week before

Great teacher, interesting class. She never went on tangents, her lectures always were on point. Very easy to take notes. Goes through a review before exams.Her tests are 95% from lectures 5% from videos. 2 exams, 6 takes home assignments which are easy reflections on videos you watch in class. She's a UC Berkeley grad + head of history dept. Very on point with her lecture. You don't need to read, she will be your living textbook. So take copious amounts of notes (exam: 95% lecture). DO NOT MISS CLASS. You will have to write a lot in this class. To get an A, your work must be factual, accurate and college-level w/ strong examples.

If U don't like to Write don't take her.U turn in short papers every 2 weeks There are 2 exams - mid term and the Final. Half of both are essay parts. She gives 5 essays , which 2 will be picked randomly on the test day. So you'll have to remember what you're going to say and U have to have quotes no txt book if U show up and papers R on Movies

She gets straight to business. No fooling around in her class. ATTEND CLASS and TAKE GOOD NOTES of everything! It's pretty simple and easy. Quite interesting as well. Book can be helpful but my boyfriend passed without reading it at all. She'll be your book.

This is a very challenging class. The multiple choice is fairly easy, but prepping for the essay questions is tough, especially when you can;t use notes. While this is manageable in 12 week quarters, this is boot camp in the fast-paced summer quarter. Yes, she is an enthusiastic liberal, but most teachers are anyway.

well i wanted to take her again this fall but i couldnt fit her in! if youre a history major youll love her, if youre not then sucks for you. shes pretty intense. as for the workload: about 6 video papers, the midterm and final are both essay oriented as well as multiple choice. she offers EC so dont sweat it!

Professor Stevens is real easy. All you got to do is take notes and show up. She assigns 6 papers and they are about the videos you watch in class. She gives 2-3 extra credit papers real easy. Exams are based off her notes. Never used the book and i got a B+. I could of gotten an A but didn't study for the final.

I am taking her online course which I find is really easy. You just read the chapter each week and then do a multiple choice open book quiz. You also have an option of taking her post-quiz for extra credit each week. Her mid term and final is an essay but she gives you the questions a few days in advance before they are due. I Highly recommend her.

Stevens is a great teacher. When people say that the notes are the ones you are suppose to pay attention to, they are right. I wasted money on my text book. She is very very hard to listen to in class and you need to take good notes to pass. Sitting further away from her, you will fail and won't hear her. Good notes, pay attention.

i took her class for hist 17b and c the same quarter. both classes are structured the same. super easy. she teaches the material like a story so its easy to memorize, and she GIVES you notes outline for you to fill in. exams have essays, but she gives you questions before hand.

you NEED TO TAKE NOTES. don't buy the book i wasted my money on it and only read like one page. she gives up to 30 points extra credit. somewhat easy class as long as you have all the notes and review it. Shes not very picky on dates the way most history teachers are. good teacher. i recomend her

Very easy teacher as long as you take notes, she provides an outline of everything you will ever hear in class or be tested on so there is no uncertainty there. The book isn't needed, for the final she needed one sited from the reader but you can borrow one or look in the library's book.

professor Stephens American History was very interesting. She doesn't talk loud so sit close if you wanna get most of the info. she speaks fast. Take quality notes, book not used much, I did review for the midterm and final. Do the 30extra credit pts its helpful, you have to write 2 papers w/ the exams.

Relatively easy A for those who are willing to pay attention during the class and take notes. She gives a study guide with terms and topics to study for, although things not on the guide might show up on exams. Essay questions on the exam are given in advance. Up to 8 short writing assignments over the quarter. Boring lectures, hard-to-hear voice.

She is boring, unmotivated, and a terrible teacher. The text book teaches you and she isn't even organized. I aced the test but missed two videos and drops me saying I will fail... Her study guides suck and if you don't have people around you in class you will fall asleep. TERRIBLE TEACHER take her and prepare to bored out of your mind.

I really enjoyed her lecturing. IMO, unlike most history teachers I've had, I've never been bored about it. Everything she discusses is important, so it's important to be there (and take notes, especially!). Very easy class as long as you're there.

I love the period she teaches but I didn't feel like I learned anything. She has you read certain sections of the books and talk in groups about them. Only lectures a handful of times. I did not care for her at all. Its not a very difficult class to pass but it is hard to pay attention and learn. Tells the class they will all fail basically.

I took Stevens for history 17b, she was so good I took her for 17c too. This class is incredibly easy if you just come to class and take notes. Her lecturing is usually interesting. All of the test comes from her lecture, don't bother buying the book even though she insists. Overall she is one of the best teachers I've had at De anza.

I paid for the full 20th century and we got 3/4 the way through. Her essays are to be no less that 1 page, no more than 2, but she usually asks for things in the essays like congressional actions which alone could be its own book. The exams are easy, but I'm telling you... those essays. Definitely devote some time to those to make them perfect.

Professor Stevens is a fantastic teacher. She is very knowledgeable and her lectures are proof. If you attend class and take good notes, the book isn't necessary to get an A. I took her for 17b and 17c, and would take her again. Just pay attention and you'll do fine.

took her western civ class. she put together her own reader but too much of it was from the Bible. Felt like she just wanted to push her religion all over us. maybe she is a frustrated bible study teacher....never take her again

This prof. would be good if she wasn't bias and arrogant. Her quiz is ok but she put trick answers with oddly worded questions. Have to write 4 assignments 2 from books and 2 videos. Very annoying by informing you that you will fail just because you miss one assignment. She's arrogant & bias about the things that she teaches. DO NOT take her class.

Not for lazy students! She's a very knowledgeable teacher & she expects u to actually learn & not just get by. I hate history & have trouble remembering anything related to it but I worked HARD & got an A. History Majors, DO take her so for a quality education that will be prepare u well for transfer.

The class itself is very interesting. When she lectures she talks very fast but everything she mentions are on the exams. There is writing only on the exams and about 4 writing assignments that are about 1 page long. Does take attendance.

She says this is her favorite class because there is always group discussions. She treats it like a humanities class. Lots of writing and thinking. Her exams are all mostly essays of at least 3 pgs. Her essay prompt has to be completely answered or you won't get a good grade. Study

Reading is assigned every week. During lecture, she just elaborates more on what you have already read. Short film essays every two weeks. Gives you essay questions ahead of time for finals. Definitely knows what she's talking about and opens up the way you look at history, almost like storytelling. Easy class if you read everything she assigned.

When giving back our papers she said what she took off points for. I covered everything but I still got points deducted. She wrote on my paper that I didn’t write about something that I did. When I showed this to her she told me she told me it was for something else. Subjective grading always makes me feel like I am being discriminated against!

Took it online- self taught and easy! Reading and quizzes, 1 midterm 1 final essays but choose a topic that seems big in the chapters like the plague and do an outline before-helps! Open book quizzes, find a friend to take it with and take quizzes together! Answers straight out of the book, just be good at word search! 99% of answers were A lol FYI

Show up to class and keep up with the readings. She'll show a video at the end of class, so don't sign the attendance and cut out. For HW, she'll have you take notes on that video and type out a page about it. Easy. Has an essay portion on both of her exams. A lot of students pre-wrote em or wrote an outline but I deserved my grade doe. An A maybe!

UGH! That is really all I have to say. She does lecture, but talks too fast. She encourages the class to ask questions, but when someone answers the question, it seems as though the answer is not answered directly. She seems to put the class down too. If you answer every essay question, points will still get taken off. It makes no sense.

This lady is the worst teacher I have ever had. She is rude, doesn't explain things well and has the tendency to hold you for the last two minutes of class just out of spite talking about something completely off topic from her lecture.

The absolute worst teacher I have ever had. I withdrew from her online class today because I will not pass. I read every chapter, did ever practice quiz, quiz, and post quiz. Emailed her because I needed help and in short she told me she couldn't help me. How are you going to be a teacher and not help your students?

Course is a on-line class that relays on the textbook for all work. Instructor has course on a strict schedule, which is not clearly communicated. Over all Instructor was horrible at communicating. Very confusing, and inadequate. Instructor was useless, and is a nut case. Very disappointed

Prof. Stevens is definitely one of the best professors in the entire history department at De Anza. She knows her facts and is extremely knowledgeable. Reading the text is extremely important in this class, her quizzes are all based on them & her tests are all essays, including the final. It's an easy A if you do your work & do the extra credit.

She was pretty strict as far as attendance goes. She expects you to be on time. She claims there would be around 5-6 written assignments, but we only had 4 total (1 being extra credit). Mid-term and Final are multiple choice and an essay. She is not that bad though. She is passionate about the subject matter so if you love history then take her.

She knows her stuff really well and as long as you follow her agenda and listen to her lectures carefully, you're good to go. Only thing is that she's very picky on the answers to quizzes or exams, so pay attention to the little things she say!

A real historian, and the department chair. Good lectures, fairly easy tests, and extra credit available. Old school educator where she expects you to attend and work at College level. Recommended for the competent. Not a difficult class if you take notes.

Did well by reading the chapter right before I took the weekly quiz-tests so that I would remember most answers, and could remember where to look up those I didn't remember. She offers extra credit quizzes each week as well as an extra credit test at the end of the term. Got a D on the midterm because I wasn't detailed enough, but still got an A.

Strict but a true historian who knows her material. She can be very mean if you get on her bad side. She speaks softly so it can be difficult to hear at times. Attendance is mandatory (you have to sign in everyday). She offers at least 5 extra credit assignments, maximum 30 points allowed. If you participate and don't half-ass the course, you pass.

good teacher, really rude. doesn't care about what issues you may be having and has a hostile answer to every question. didn't know if computer sent the final in properly, so i emailed her a copy, she said she doesn't accept them, then emailed her back saying its just a precaution, she bolded instructions and basically told me "too bad". Very rude!

She looks intimidating and is kind of rude, however, she does know what she's talking about. If you show up everyday and take good lecture notes, you'll pass the class. The only time I opened up the textbook was to skim it before midterms, but I would've passed without it. If you stay on top of the assignments and do the extra credit you'll be fine

She does talk quiet and just has a discussion as lecture. There were some days I was into it and others I wasn't. I thought she was very nice, sweet, and passionate. Not the end of the world if you miss class, but I'd suggest trying to make it. Not an easy A, but worth it. Test are multiple choice with 2 essay questions. Overall lovely professor!

Rude, tells you to speak your opinion but then gets in a argument with you in front of the whole class. Does not write anything on the board. TALKS FOR 2 HOURS STRAIGHT. And sometimes just keeps talking to keep you in. She has even kept us in longer the the class period. Takes roll everyday so of course you got to be there. Strict on attendance.

Probably the most passionate professor about her subject at DeAnza or maybe anywhere. You can tell she has dedicated her life to being a historian. I came into her class at a disadvantage as history is not my strong suit and I have never really learned it and still came out with an a. Make sure you come to class and take good lecture notes.

Sadly, this is Professor Stevens last quarter teaching full time. Her class was so informative. I'm a history buff already and the things I learned from her were great! If you think you know your US history, she'll beg you to differ. Take her if you can! But don't be the jerk that sits in the back talking to your neighbor. Not cool.

she's very strict but still cares about her students. sit near the front, and take active notes. every day is a lecture, one or two videos. it's very much like a high school history review, with more work. she uses a microphone so don't worry about not hearing her. if no one participates, she will call on random people.

She is an amazing history buff. She is passionate about what she teaches and you can tell history was her calling. She lectures all class but it was by no means a detriment. If you're taking 17C because it is required for transfer I would definitely recommend her. Test are not difficult and it is part multiple choice and part short essay.

As far as online classes go, I would not recommend this teacher. All of her material is straight from a textbook.. Each week you have to read a chapter, then take a 2 part quiz on that chapter. She doesn't offer any personal input or lectures. She is a tough grader on all essay midterms and leaves rude remarks on them. NOT an easy A teacher!

Once, she said I wasnt included an specific detail then I highlighted the part and sent her back hopping her fixed my grade and never answered. She is tough rude grader . DONT TAKE HER!!

I just finished her online class and received an A. The multiple choice tests and quizzes are fair and totally fine. However, with literally every essay exam I've submitted, she would take points off and comment on things I've actually included in my essay. It seems like she doesn't even read my essays and just skims through them.

Online quizzes and discussions are easy points if you read. However, her essay grading is brutal. I felt like she 1) didn't read my essay fully or 2) has higher expectations for thoroughness than the actual questions ask. She also does not have a modules page on canvas making it rather difficult to keep up with weekly assignments.

Quizzes are MC and completely objective, no tricks. Her written assignments though, like discussions and essays, are horrible. She will take 5 points off of a discussion post(out of 20), and only leave a comment "Good points" She consistently takes points off with no explanation. Or she docks you for excluding stuff you literally wrote about..

Not as bad as reviews say. Her grading criteria is unclear when it comes to discussions but if you ask why she docked off points after then she'll happily answer. She's willing to help but that's about it. Not the worst but not the best. Unless you have study group, I'd advise to take others if possible. If you're stuck with her, she's not as bad.

The key to passing this class is to ANSWER THE ESSAY QUESTION. Do not go off topic and ramble because she will dock off points. Everyone says she is a tough grader, which I can see, but she isn't the worst. Just be straight to the point in her essays. In discussions, do not give opinions. Only state facts and stuff from the book.

Really easy teacher. You take an open note quiz on the textbook a week, do 4 discussion posts, and have essay questions for the 1 midterm and final. You have 3 hours to do the essays, so there isn't pressure. Grades very highly. Take her for an easy A and a little history knowledge.
