A true teacher! Very interested in the subject matter and it gets contagious. Lots of class room discussion .Hint: Don't walk in late Come to class prepared and you'll learn alot. Margaret Taylor has a fun personality and tries to get all involved. Lots of group work-which worked out well in this class. She brings interesting videos to class
Margaret Taylor is an inspiring Sociology Instructor. Hint-don't come in late and be sure your phone is OFF. You're going learn something weather you like it or not. She gets to know her students and challenges you to think for yourself. If you have you have Sociology, you may as well take it with this interesting instructor.
Mrs. Taylor is a great teacher, I had her for her on-line class and her discussion post where fun and you could relate it to real life. Her papers were very reasonable and I got all perfects on them. Her test and finals are a bit tough but extra credit makes up for it.
Just took her class this past spring. great teacher, lecture very interesting and fun. Just come to class, take good notes, and study for test an you will be ok. All test are mult. choice. But she does give pop quiz like every other class...usually from reading assigned or notes... Give extra credit... GREAT TEACHER!!!!
A wonderful teacher! She loves what she does & you will too. Great discussions! You will always leave her class learning something and wanting to come back. Lots of pop quizzes & extra credit.
I LOVED HER!! Probably one of the best i have ever had. She loves what she does and you will too. She asked us if she was doing anything wrong and i seriously think people have told her she goes to fast only because there is nothing for her to improve on! Lots of pop quizzes. TAKE NOTES! and you will do great in her class. Fun class discussion too!
Great Teacher. Really helpful, made class relevant and interesting
Best of the best.
AMAZING! Professor Taylor was GREAT! We had awesome discussion in class and she was always there to help. You cant be shy in her class though. Participate in discussion and take notes and there is no way to be unsucessful
ONE OF THE BEST !!! She's very concern and love what she does !! You can really tell she has a passion for what she does and want you to understand it ! You have to read the chapter and look over your notes everday, but its interesting and repeats things soo you JUST REMEMBER ! She love COLD CALLS soo pay ATTENTION !!
If all teachers were this good students would have no problems. She is a TRUE teacher, she makes you think about things you thought you knew and re-evaluate. This is what I thought college was supposed to be!
Professor Taylor is an awesome professor. Makes the college experience fun. We all agreed that he was tough but along as you pay attention you should have no problem passing. GREAT TEACHER!!!!!!!!!
AMAZING teacher. She makes sure you understand the information, and takes the time to explain it in deatail if you dont. If you read the material in the textbook, and take notes, this is an easy class.
If u love to talk in front others and you love to read long chapters and articles then take her...She just wasn't the teacher for me!
I WAS interested in the subject. Descent began with the $73 MAGAZINE they call a "textbook". Some obvious personal bias from her & I found out that one particular assignment I got a poor grade on (I made A's/B's on all others) was scored without her even reading it entirely, by her own admission. Opinions & "thinkers" beware. NOT recommended.
She was terrible as an online professor. I usually take one or two online classes for the past 3 semesters and she is by far the worst professor I have had in all categories. She won't communicate and she obviously puts little effort into grading because she made several mistakes on my discussions and tests. She gets an F for sure...
I disagree with the negative comments. Took her for SOC101 online, and had a great experience. The most engaging online course I have taken. She quickly answers questions, and she actually participates in the discussions (rather than just grading) to help students better understand the material and guide you in the right direction. Recommended.
This teacher is not clear on material. Does not explain grades given and when clarification is asked for it is answered as brief as possible. I took this course online and made an A the stress is not learning the material; it is dealing with the "Professor". If you have another option take it, if not put your helmet on and prepare yourself!
Love this teacher! She is clear about the assignments and what to study. She makes the class fun and interesting by far. She is very easy to talk to and ask questions. Take notes in class and you'll do great in here.
Her class was my 1st online class and I wasn't sure what to expect. She is a pretty easy going teacher and the work load isn't heavy at all. I would recommend her to other students. The class was a great experience for 1st online class.
I took her online class. This class was not interesting for me, but was very easy. If you complete the discussions and article assignments, and study for tests you will do fine. She grades assignments in a timely manner. I would take her online course again.
Took online course. Loved the class. She is a great teacher. Very helpful and makes the test come straight from your notes. I would take a class taught by her again.
Prof Taylor is an excellent teacher. She is incredibly enthusiastic about sociology and she makes the classroom an interactive, fun place. I have taken many undergraduate and graduate classes and she shines as a professor!!
She was unclear on instructions. I could not understand what she wanted me to do because of her poor communication skills. Not to mention, she is quite the procrastinator. She waited until after midnight to post our homework and it was due the next day! I'm usually in bed by then, but she didn't seem to care and gave me a failing grade.
I loved her class! Ms. Taylor has a great sense of humor and she speaks the language of students. Her class requires participation and she encourages you to ask a lot of questions. "No question is a dumb question." Don't text in class because she will pull a pop quiz for the entire class to take!
Taylor is one tough cookie !!! She challenges her students to think outside of the box and get things wrong. Taylor is not an EASY teacher, she is fair and tough. Do what she tells you to do, take notes, do h/w, practice the modules and you will pass. Slack off just one bit and you will fail. Beware of the 10 pop quizzes and ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS !
I loved her class. She is truly amazing and funny. She makes you think outside of the box. Sociology is very interesting subject to study and she helps you understand it. Make sure you do the learnsmarts and know your material. I didn't really enjoy the Quests (mainly because they require public speaking)>
She is a wonderful teacher. Her class is not easy but she makes you think outside of the box. She is very helpful and her teaching method is very effective. Just make sure you keep up with the homework and assignments and you will do just fine. I highly recommend this class.
Love Love Love!!! it's easy if you study. she makes her points clear and will help you anyway she can if you'll ask. she only has 3 test including the final. mostly its just pop quizzes of 1 or 2 questions u copy off whatever homework you may have completed. she offers simple extra credit. if you fail this class then you just didn't study.
I took her SOC 101 class and she is an amazing professor! She has a tough side so don't do any of her pet peeves. She also wants everyone to talk and participate in class. Put in a good effort, her office door is always open if you need help. Definitely recommend her class.
Professor Taylor is a very outgoing teacher and I enjoyed being in her class. The class is very engaging, so you will definitely have to step out of your comfort zone. I didn't know what to expect when i registered for the course, but I am glad I was able to be apart of it.
Amazing teaher, class was fun and engaging. She uses very many visual aids to help you understand the material.
I did not like this class at first, but she made it interesting. Class participation is the key to this class. If you're an introvert, this class is not for you. Don't miss class, complete all the homework, ask lots of questions, and you will make an A. I could've made an A, but I didn't apply myself like I should've. I would suggest this class.
Professor Taylor is an excellent instructor. Provides study guides, offers extra credit. Professor Taylor is always available to her students and she really enjoys teaching Sociology. I would highly recommend Professor Taylor.
Taylor is very proficient at what she does, teaching sociology. Her class is extremely easy if you show up to every class, engage in the topics being covered and ask many questions (right or wrong). She is very open minded and teaches others to LOOK at everything around them, to look beyond our little bubble. Highly recommended. Fun, interesting
She does not test you on the book just on what she lectures they are long and not very interesting. If you want an A this is not the teacher for you because she gives 3 quest out which are a class test if the class doesn''t do their homework you will fail. You are depending on others to make your grade for you without the quest you fail
She is amazing! her lectures & test are very clear, if theres something you dont understand she'd rather you stop her in class than wait till later. do the work you'll get an A easy. this was a class i looked forward going to twice a week. the quest are no where what people make them out to be their fun really and she wants you to pass with an A!!!
Great teacher! Adds humor to lectures, enjoys what she does. Answers questions clear and actually teaches material. Pop quizzes are given once a week. A quiz is given if she catches someone on their cell phone.
In my opinion, she talks down to students(especially younger students) and ignored those who like to answer. Interrupts students constantly, picks those who look confused, favorites were picked, books were barely used, quizzes were inconsistent, homework was seldom graded, and class rules were constantly changed. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.
She has HER opinion and she expects you to agree with her. Her idea of education is agreeing with her. I thought education was about looking at a situation from different viewpoints. She does not do that. She tries to "brainwash" her susceptible young students into thinking the "real-world" thinks the way she does. SHE LIVES BY HER SYLLABUS!!!!
Really clear in what she wants out of you from day one. Stay on top of your online assignments and do the extra credit. She is a pretty tough grader but will explain why you got the grade you received. She is a really great professor.
She kept everyone on their toes! but that is exactly what helped me and made me prepare for class and I LOVEDDD HER! Never have your phone on you or it's a POP QUIZ for the whole class! I thought I was going to regret taking her class- but I loved how honest she was - then again me and her LOVED talking about how much we miss our hometownBROOKLYN!
I would definitely recommend Prof. Tayloe. Really cared about her students and was always willing to help you outside of class. Started off every class by asking how we were doing and allowed us to all interacts. Deff a very social class where you are talking out loud and to other. Study & you will easily pass the class with an A
Prof. Taylor is one of the best instructors I've ever had. She is very strict, but makes class time really fun. She has a very quirky sense of humor. She expects a lot of class participation, but it makes the class really interesting. If you study hard, you should pass her class with a high grade.
Prof. Taylor is an amazing teacher, but she is also a strict one. If you take her class, expect group activities and group grades. If you do amazing on the group quiz, it doesn't matter. If the rest of the class fails, you fail too. This was really the only downside. She is (for the most part) always there to answer questions.
SHS IS GREAT!! Study hard and do the learn smarts as well as the homework and articles. If you cannot stay on top of your homework and studying then don't take this class you will fail. She is hard she is also extremely helpful if you don't understand go to her office.
Professor Taylor is a great professor. She can be quite scary sometimes because she is very strict. If you do all of your homework, learnsmarts, and readings you will do fine. The only thing I did not like about her class were the quests, your grade is in everyone else's hands for those. She is very helpful and interesting.
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Favorite professor ever! Shes so kind and hilarious! Would defiantly take another class from her!
I really liked her as a teacher! She would always ask us about our weekend, and then tell us about hers before she started class. The lectures are long, but she always added things to make it interesting. We only had a couple of tests, and you need to make sure that you study for them. You also need to study before class because of the pop quizzes.
Very interesting professor but hard to take notes in class to study from. Teaches by examples, not definitions. Learnsmarts have nothing to do with the test yet take an hour or so to complete. READ THE ARTICLES. They will be discussed.
I love Ms. Taylor! Her Classes were always so conversational with classmates and entertaining. She is definitely a teacher who's class that I could take again. I highly recommend her class. Plenty of Extra Credit there's no way that you could not earn an A. She loves her job and has a gift!!
Mrs. Taylor has a great personality. She tries to make the class interesting. However, this teacher runs her class like a high school teacher would. assigned seating, unnecessarily strict on cell phones (even when shes on hers). She interrupts students who ask questions and never answers them, and she does not reply to emails, shes not helpful.
She takes her class very seriously. When I read the Syllabus at the beginning of the semester I thought the class was going to be impossible. She has very specific rules, and follows them closely but wants her students to do well. The class was very conversational and if you kept her in a good mood with participation and effort, time would fly by.
Taylor was an excellent teacher but will make you work for your grade. Gives many out-of-class assignments, but they aren't hard. Keep up with your work/homework. She gives pop quizzes, so know what is going on in the class!! If you're looking for an easy A, don't take her.
The worst professor I have had in the 3 years I have been in college. She penalizes her students for trying to help each other in class and is very rude to her students. She makes up ridiculous policies for her class and makes it very clear that her opinion is the only one that matters.
POP QUIZZES PEOPLE! Do the lenghthy homework and read the chapter before class and you will pass but you have to study study study.
I really enjoyed her class. She really encourages you to speak during class. I was one of the few that did in my class. She gives a some extra credit opportunities. She gives a good lectures that will really give you an appreciation for sociology.
She is truly a wonderful teacher. She makes an effort to connect to her students and she emphasizes the importance of working together as a class. Ms. Taylor can be a little bit tough at times, but if you study and do your homework you will excel in her class.
Ms. Taylor is a great teacher! She does throw in a lot of pop quizzes so try not to miss any classes. If you absolutely most miss a class at least come in the first 20 mins of class to see if there is a pop quiz. TAKE THE QUESTS SERIOUS!!! DON'T RELY ON YOUR CLASSMATES TO KNOW ALL THE ANSWERS.
Awesome Teacher. She's very passionate about her subject. As long as you take notes read and pay attention you will do fine. Don't forget to do the homework. She give A LOT of pop quizzes that come directly from the homework. So make sure to come to the first 20 mins of class with your homework in hand in case of a pop quiz. STUDY FOR QUESTS!
Miss. Taylor is a great teacher I had a different prospective about this society after leaving her class.
Professor Taylor is a very inspirational woman. Her lectures are always fun and she takes the time to really connect with her students.
One of the most organized instructors/teachers ever. She is strict/sticks by her rules. Also assigns seats. If you have a good class, you will do fine, if not it will be MUCH harder, as quests involve the entire class getting same grade. Also do HW, as there will be 5 pop quizzes from it. Overall great instructor who cares about her students!!
Taylor is a great person and will keep you interested throughout the whole semester. Study a lot and you'll pass the class easily!
She's scary and intimidating at first, as she is a stickler for her rules and the assigned seats and being late. The HW is important, as that is what the pop quizzes are based on. The Quests you need to study for and not rely on your classmates. She's an inspiring teacher and truly has a gift and passion to teach. Don't expect to pass if you're lazy
Professor Taylor is wonderful and is a very interesting professor. She makes sociology very interesting and has real life scenarios when discussing lecture. There are pop quizzes so make sure to always do the homework, and study for the quests. As long as you show up to class and take note you will do fine!
Great teacher, funny, laid-back lectures. Do your (ungraded) homework and you will be fine. She likes her pop quizzes and the quests are fun, but make sure you study well.
Professor Taylor knows a LOT about Sociology. I took the online class during the Summer and she always posted long discussion boards or announcements and was always more than willing to help anyone who had any questions. The online class was easy and I never used my actual text book, just the e-book and the online activities.
I just had my last class with Professor Taylor and I love her. She is by far my favorite professor here at Gtech. She gives amazing feedback and explains things super well. Be sure to do the homework, it's not hard or long. She mostly uses this b4 "pop quizzes" Also. ASK QUESTIONS. She gives you the chance at the start of every class.
Professor Taylor was one of the best professors I have taken. She gives you a lot of extra credit opportunities throughout the course. Her quests are really helpful to prepare you for the tests.
Prof. Taylor taught our class in an experimental, discussion-based, student-driven way. She may seem strict at first, but she is one of the most interested and compassionate teachers you'll meet. An amazing class that goes places a traditional lecture-based class would never be able to go.
The very first thing she said to my class was "Don't bother me outside of class, I'll be playing Call of Duty." I think it was a joke, but with how long it took to get a response from her via email, I'm not sure... Extra credit opportunities were not given fairly, very pick-and-choose with who was allowed to do it. I ended up dropping the class.
I loved Mrs. Taylor. She has a true gift of teaching and really knows her sociology. I loved her class and her spunk. She doesnt make it a cake walk, but she does care for your grade. She is probably my favorite professor so far in college! So much respect for this woman, shes intimidating but once you get to know her its just out of love.
I did not enjoy taking SOC 101 with this professor. I felt like a lot of time was wasted in class when she was looking for someone to give her the exact answer shes looking for when she could have just explained it outright and let the lesson move along. I would not recommend this professor to anyone.
Mrs Taylor was mediocre to say the least. We were given homework assignments every week that were not graded, but was expected to be done. She also gives random pop quizzes, most of the time on the homework. She spent a whole class period comparing unicorns to race. She also does not have notes or power points, so be ready to teach yourself.
She assigned a group project where the whole group received the same grade, no matter what the individual earned, which brought my a down to a c. I only got an a in the class after I complained. She spends class time asking questions instead of teaching and will REFUSE to teach if no one answers. I got a good grade by teaching myself.
Class was interesting in a good way. She made sociology easy to understand and really made us think for ourselves. No papers I believe. Final was easy because it was an alternative exam due to snow days. She doesn't allow phone or laptop use in class. Don't disturb class and participate. If nobody participates, she will give a quiz.
She uses a lot of sarcasm. I don't understand sarcasm that well, so understanding her can be difficult at times. Everyone gets the same quiz grade. I don't like paying for college and being graded on someone else's effort. There are no notes, and when she writes them, she uses her own personal short hand. Don't waste your money on this professor.
You'll have to teach yourself. Participation is required. Pop quizzes are often. Textbook was barely used, so waste of $$. Group grades meaning EVERYONE gets the same grade. Tests are based on lectures. She barely uses PowerPoint so take good notes. Ask questions & she'll ask you one back or be sarcastic. Disorganized. Doesn't use time effectively
Mrs. Taylor likes to give out pop quizzes and if you miss spell she will take 10 points off. She does offer extra credit but it requires A LOT of work. The homework is not hard. The group tests are a little much. Don't email her unless more than one person is having the same problem she either won't respond or she will say "not my problem"
Professor Taylor's class was truly an interesting experience. Instead of the usual lecture-memorize-regurgitate loop, you actually learn to think like a sociologist. Her class influenced how I saw the world. This is a class for those who appreciate learning and want an new experience. I would advise taking her class.
Dr Taylor changed my life in the sociology class I had with her. Literally one term, life-changing, and I will be forever grateful for this class. I recommended it to everyone I knew at college at the time, and I still think about her regularly. She was tough but fair, and she ignited in me a lifelong passion for sociology and social issues.
Prof. Taylor was so nice. She really works with her students. Her class was online and the formatting was a lil aggravating but really great content and super nice. She does not post things ahead of time bc she needs to count your attendance so keep up with due dates. Great teacher overall
Professor Taylor is a very sweet woman but she does not respond fast. Takes about a day to get a response back. I have never really had any trouble with her and the class is pretty easy. Just do your work and you'll get an A. I would definitely take her again.
The class was fairly simple and we spent the entire semester diving into the major sociological theories. The instructor strongly encourages student comments/participation from every student. She breaks uncomfortable barriers.
I've been in her class for legit an entire month and cannot stand her. She runs the class like its high school, FORCES you to participate in the lecture and if not she threatens the entire class with a pop quiz. She is just very unpleasant to be in a room with because of her very haughty nature, even though she tries so hard to come off as cool.
I love Professor Taylor. Instead of throwing the material at us, she makes sure you understand it fully. I feel like ppl complain about how she didnt get them to fully understand what was being taught, but I believe if thats the case its on you for not speaking up and asking because she lets the class decide where the discussion goes by asking ?
Prof. Taylor was an awesome teacher. She was very nice and caring. I have no complaints about her. Her teaching style is nice and is easy to learn stuff. Beware of the pop quizzes in her class though.
She often asks the class obvious "gotcha questions" which is really annoying as you can see it coming from a mile away, and she only takes the wrong answer so she can spring the trap on why you're wrong. Also, DON'T ASK WHAT THE CLASS SECTION NUMBER IS!! She shut down a girl harshly for simply asking what the class section number was.
She does alot of group projects that youll most likely have to go during office hours for clarification, but her teaching skills are really good
All you have to do is do the one assignment/quiz every Sunday night. Sometimes discussion boards, but they are more opinion-based. Only test is the final exam.
Lectures are mandatory but they are so worth it. She is fun, engaging, and wants us to learn and do well. She responds quickly, grades are easy, there is enough extra credit to where if you do manage to get bad grades you can bring them up. Very respectful and helpful. Group grading, so actually try. But even that is easy. One easy group project.
She was by far my favorite professor. She is always making sure that everyone in the class is very comfortable. All of her assignments were fun and interesting. I never had a boring day in any of her classes. I would love to take another one of her classes just because of how amazing she is as a person and as a professor.
The professor gets very long-winded during her lectures; sometimes she will spend twenty minutes explaining two definitions, leaving little time to discuss the main topics covered in the text. Topics which will, no doubt, be on the test. Also, she gave the students assigned seating. What is this? The fourth grade? 10/10 Do not recommend.
I don't understand all of the five-star reviews. For me personally, I find the professor to be very terse, almost rude, to any student that has questions. Instead of answering questions or concerns, she wastes time by retorting with questions of her own; wasting further time that could be used to teach concepts.
She comes off as rude and wastes a lot of time. The people leaving 5 star reviews are only giving her 5 stars because she can be nice and relatable sometimes. But, at the end of the day YOUR grade matters and that's it. She gives pop quizzes (20% of your overall grade), graded strictly and the questions are typically vague/hard to answer. Avoid.
We were three weeks into class and were still having to hear about the definition of society. She would get mad at people for not asking questions, but when someone did ask a question, she would shut them down and say we weren't there yet. We never "got there." Test 1 came around and half the stuff on the test was never lectured.
Limited opportunities for makeup work if you miss assignments. No tech in class. Participation by the class leads to multiple choice quizzes and tests rather than essays. Prof Taylor truly cares about her "peeps" and wants everyone to succeed. Amazing lecturer, great sense of humor. I absolutely adored her, and felt inspired to shift my minor.
She made the course more difficult than it had to be. She wouldn't just answer questions that you'd ask. She would tell you to ask your classmates and see if they had the same issue, instead of just answering the question. She did have extra credit available but it had to be turned in by a certain date or else she wouldn't take it.
Pop quizzes include vague questions that can be difficult to answer. No technology is allowed in her class and she forces participation, like a high school class. She doesn't always answer questions seriously but gets upset when no one raises their hands. Tests were all online and open notes, not bad if you understand the concepts taught in class.
She may come off as too much at times, but honestly stick through it and do all the easy assignments and you will get an A! Usually one assignment a week, pop quiz every other week, 1 group project and I believe 2 tests. She does these class test which are very easy and are used as test grades.
She is an overall great person. However, her class was different from how I learned. Notes were barely provided and were often confusing. Homework was sometimes never used but sometimes was used for the whole lesson. The textbook was required but never hardly used. She once accused a student of cheating because they asked for the class section.
The quests and tests are not difficult if you pay attention in class and read the textbook. She offers a lot of extra credit opportunities as well. She definitely cares about her students and Sociology.
Dr. Taylor's understanding of the course content is superlative. She emphasizes teaching through real world examples and person to person interaction. The class is fairly easy as long as you can leave your preconceived notions at home. Theres no term memorization or fact recital, so as long as you understand the material you will succeed.
To be honest I went into her class with what I had read on here a little nervous, but she was one of my favorite teachers. She is very understanding and gives multiple options for extra credit. Pay attention to the lectures and don't forget to take notes. Also she has POP QUIZZES but they are easy if you do the homework.
Excellent lectures if you're interested in sociology. Easily available after class and will answer questions, just don't be silent during class.
I love her so much. Her lectures are very intriguing and can maintain class focus. I am not usually one to speak out in class, but she makes us feel welcome and comfortable so talking in her class is one my favorite things to do, I don't feel embarrassed to ask a question. She is very hands on which also helps learning. I RECOMMEND!!
Great teacher, very fun class!
I really like this professor. Her work is difficult but I really enjoyed the way she conducted the class. The class tests are easy as long as you study. She does give pop quizzes that are heavily based on homework so ALWAYS DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND BRING IT TO CLASS! The more you participate in class, the easier the class is.
You will not regret taking her! She wants you about pop quizzes and as long as you have read the book they're east. Homeowro and tests are easy A's. She creates a great learning environment and encourages communication and respect. Changed my entire degree because of her class.
Class is lecture & notes No tech allowed Wants us to participate can get away with not. Missing class doesn't matter but could miss something so check the syllabus. All online, multiple attempts and not protected! The final exam is protected. Tests are “quests” that you do in class Kahoots. Everyone in class gets the same grade with quests
She is great overall, very welcoming and made sure we were aware we could ask her questions. But note taking wasn't really a thing, we learned with the Inquizitives she assigned every other week, I don't learn by reading text books so this class was a tad difficult for me, doesn't directly answer our questions we asked, overall was good though.
no tech & talking allowed (weird ikr), PLEASE read the textbook during the week and NOT last minute on due date. frequently does group activities over the notes/book. tests are in class kahoots/jeopardy & everyone gets a 100 if everyone participates (in groups) and does the reading/knows definitions.
