text doesn't fit the class, projects are fun to do, and hw is just busy work
hard to meet outside of class as much as needed
She is nice, but it is hard to get A in this cass.
She is very classy. The assignments are easy but there are a lot of them.
Be prepared to read a book and be tested on it, despite rarely discussing the material. She is very understanding, but pray you get into a good group, or you're screwed. The work is relatively easy. I would recommend her.
requires a lot of out of class time that most of us cant make room for. i recommend bruno for those who are pressed for time - she schedules in time for projects in class.
She is a really wonderful person. Nice and seems to really care. Grading however comes out of left field. She seems to have the mentality of picking out errors rather than seeing how well you do.
Demanding on time! hard to meet up with 5 people you don't know with different scheduales every other week. on top of that, she gives a bunch of busy-work! time consuming chapter objectives, must attend more meetings and 4-5 speeches. nice lady but her class isn't worth it and she grades feircely.
gives a ridiculous amount of busy work and does not provide enough time to prepare for speeches between projects especially considering that you must constantly meet with 5 other members with conflicting schedules. group interaction was fun but that of course depends on your group. no midterm for us
fun when in a group that is motivated and prepared. we didn't meet once and we all got A's and B's. teacher is very professional and she her values are very evident. good teacher work will keep you busy.
Too much busy work and ridiculousy strict guidelines. She isn't leniant with late work AT ALL and will mark you down 20% for being late (late can even mean not turning it in at the beginning of class.) Take this class only if you have no other classes and if you don't mind your grade being dependant on a bunch of losers. I hated it.
She is a nice teacher, but grades tough. she seems to have a hard time giving out A's and requires a lot of ridiculous busy work. She likes to focus on the minimal errors you made intested of your quality of work. She requires 3 speeches and a midterm and a final which she allows notes for.
Boring and LOTS of useless busywork. Grades hard. Doesn't really seem to care about teaching. Nice person just not a great teacher.

Was fun and interesting. Does assign lots of work but you're in college, get used to it. Structured class so all the students knew each other well and was creative with assignments. Don't abuse her leniency.
Yeah.... I didn't care for this class at all. She didn't teach much in class. We just kind of... got thrown up there to the podium it seems. Not for me.

I truly hated this class. She treated us like grammar school kids. Much time-consuming busy work and lots of extra, out-of-class time required. Much of your grade will depend on the people in the group she assigns you to for the whole semester. If they suck, there goes your grade. Avoid her class!
I enjoyed this class more then I thought I would. She does make you do a lot of busy work, but overall I thought the class was a good one.
Prof. Williams did not teach a thing in class. All she did was assign speeches and "families," that is about all she did. I would not recommend her at all unless you're already a great speaker and you can handle just being thrown out there infront of an audience AND be expected to do well.
She was always late to class, said she wouldn't grade somethings and then did. If you take her class keep your work, she makes quite a few grading errors. Her grading style often seems very subjective, doesn't show a clear pattern. A difficult teacher to get along with even if you put alot of time into your work.
If you like to spend your whole semester reading and writing ridiculous essays, and learning about grammar you are in the right class. Getting an A in her class is like wining the lottery. In this class you will have nightmares, anxiety attacks, never an A.Good luck, if you are planning to take this class made sure that you have a great psychiatrist.
Absolutley horrible, always late to class, would say one thing and do another, very subjective grading, and wanted you to bow down to her, demanded to be called PROFESSOR williams and was a horrible dresser. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, even if you are a good student as i was - did all assignments and performed well on all speeches, still got a c.
Well unlike everyone else, I had a great experiance. I really enjoyed this class and Prof. Williams was a great teacher. The class was tottally easy and fun. I only had three speeches and two were group speeches. There was a lot of work but it was so easy. You just have to attend class, do the assignment and respect her, and you'll do okay.
worst teacher ever! assigns so much work and has no idea what shes doing, good luck if you take her you can work your but off and you probably barley get a C
I think that class was very easy aside from the presentations all we did was talk.
prof williams was honestly VERY unorganized. this is a communications class but the main emphasis was the text book and papers. (which were graded sporadically) If you are taking this class, don't fall behind on the chapter work, & save all your papers and grades because chances are, she will not have all of them recorded!
I really liked Prof. Williams. Yes you use the text book a lot but you also learn a lot too. If you are respectful and you do your work you will have no problem with this class. She helps you if you ask, so if you need help ask! All in all I really enjoyed her class
Very unorganized. The work assigned was collected once in a while. Grades everything hard(tests, homework, presentations). She thinks shes an English teacher. Talked a lot in class, but assigned a lot of work. Seems like she doesn't want you to pass. Strongly urge u not to take her, if u can avoid it.
I hated this class. She teaches like it's 3rd grade, and doesn't seem to like her students--has a su****ious, mean attitude. Constant group activities and group grades; it was so silly, tedious, and boring.
This class was a nightmare. I tried so hard, I almost read the whole entire book did the 18 something Ch. rev questions and still struggled. Even when I did study and actually read the chapters I did terrible on the tests. The tests are very very hard. I never missed a class and still did bad. Don't even consider taking this class.

Group Communication is the worst class!! Prof. Williams makes no sense. Warning: this class requires a lot of out of class time. You are split into groups at the start of the class and must stick with these groups till the end. Hope you get a good group. I hate this class...
I am enrolled in the class right now and i absolutely hate it! There is so much out of class work! HER TESTS make no sense! Even if you study you will have a hard time comprehending the questions... i wish i would have dropped in the beginning! I would never recommend this class to anyone! AVOID THIS CLASS!!!

Horrible! Her grading style on tests is absurd! the multiple choice questions have multiple answers and she gives no partial credit for partial right answers. Studying does not help as she asks specific questions which are impossible. i hated her class
This class was the biggest waste of time. She never lectured but instead used the class time to talk about things that were not important and not on the tests. Her tests were based out of the book and gave no guideline on what would be on them. I had an A before the final and got an A on the final and she still gave me a B. Logical? I think not.
Professor Williams is a pretty good instructor. She helps you when you need it and is lenient at times. Gives out participation points so its helpful to be in class. Before this class I wasnt a big fan of public speaking but now Im getting more confident speaking in front of a large group.
Worst professor i have ever had. She never teaches what is going to be on the tests. And well she asks so many questions during lectures and presentations you would think that you were the teacher instead of her. Half the time i would want to say "are you kidding me". DONT TALK HER CLASS. Its a waste of time
This class is extremely boring. She doesn't even teach that much. She just expects you to read the book and know everything in it. If someone could really remember everything in the book then they could teach the class. The test are ridiculous. I am a good test taker and I can't even get a solid B on the tests in this class. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!
Prof. Williams is decent teacher. Her tests are extremely hard, really unsure what to study, but the presentations are so easy and you only have to do two. The outside homework is alot but you get all of it at the beginning of the semester so you choose when to do it. I do suggest taking Speech instead because group work is horrible.
This class is ridiculous. I cannot beleive how she is as a communications instructor. She has rude off the wall facial expressions and looks at you like a complete idiot when you are presenting. I read every chapter in the book and got a C. I was only absent once and did every single assignment. Don't take her class!!! You will regret it!
This class is terrible. If it wasnt required I wouldnt take it! Prof Williams is not terrible but certainly not good. Depends on group work too much. Requires chapter reading so she doesnt have too teach concepts. If at all possible take another teacher
she is one of the best teachers i have ever had in this college. all you need to do is not missing classes and do all the assignments. she is very polite and always ready to help. she also gives so many extra credit and participation points to the students. i did not work really hard and i got a B in her class. i suggest to take her for com 3.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class and she was fantastic! One of the coolest teachers I have ever had! Love her! Highly recommend taking her classes.
Not very reassuring of her directions regarding her assignments, in fact changes them more often than not. Not forgiving if you miss a class. Be sure to buddy up with someone if you miss a class to fill you in.
Okay, i'm normally an A average student and this class is literally my biggest regret actually staying in it. Our last speech we used no note cards at all and a few ppl couldnt do it and sat down crying. The speechs arent the bad parts, the tests are the hardest tests ive ever taken. She expects you to memorize the book word for word.DO NOT TAKE!!!
Nice lady, hardest grader I;ve ever had. Questions on test all have same answer just worded different expecting you to literally memorize the whole text book. I kid you not, DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!
The class I had with her was quite small, but everyone of us ended up really enjoying the class, and we all liked her very much.
Very nice and chill teacher...hardest grader EVER!!!! I did well however, you really do need to read the book and do the objectives at the beginning of each chapter. This will help you on the tests. The tests are hard! The multiple choice answers all seem the same. I did well however. GOOD LUCK!
Williams is a bit...strange. But shes a good teacher. If you and your group get along well, you'll do better. Big basis on work group projects and group work!! Don't slack on group participation! Make sure you attend meetings too--part of the requirements. Her tests are pretty easy as long as you study/read a little.
This is a really hard class. she expects you to teach yourself. Her Tests are based on everything in the text, but she does not teach everything in the book. She only teaches what she wants to teach. On the essay part of the exams she wants you to know every detail and for the multiple choice she gives you answers that have the same meaning-Tough
All the tests are from the book. The book isnt hard to read but the chapters are long. She expects clarity on the short answers, and it can get all blended together so its not the easiest to do. The short andswer is better than the multiple choice questions though. She is very nice and apporachable if you need help. Your group is most important.
This lady has a terrible memory, doesn't follow the syllabus, places her faults on students, gives much more homework than neccessary, SINGLES OUT VETERANS, my entire class (9:30) had nothing but horrible things to say about her this semester, as did her 12:30 class. This lady can't teach, save yourself the trouble, choose a different teacher
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! I'm a 3.62 gpa student. This is the ONLY grade below “B” I've gotten in two AA degrees with Honors! My speeches were on time, organized & compelling. I'm not shy about public speaking. So what was the problem? This teacher is "married" to the textbook. If you don't memorize it, all your hard work on speeches won't count.
She wasn't a good teacher at all, I got all A's on my tests/group tests, read the textbook, and speeches. I just received my grade and she gave me a C. She also doesn't use blackboard or give you your grade till the last day. I don't recommend her to anyone. (very judgmental)
DON'T TAKE HER! I have asked for my grade at least 4 times throughout the semester and she has no info for me. She grades ridiculously hard on outlines. We have taken as many tests as speeches, which are not easy. She is unorganized when it comes to grades, I feel as though I won't get the grade I deserve due to her unorganized skills.
She is strict and unhelpful. Her grading is very harsh and she doesn't give legitimate feedback. She could care less about her students progress and barely ever lectured but expected us to practically have the entire book memorized. Her tests were ridiculous and difficult unless you had time to read the entire textbook six times.
Do Not Take! Hardest grader ever, doesn't explain anything, just tells you to look at the syllabus. felt like i was in English on how many essays i wrote. i can honestly say i learned completely nothing in her class. Once Again DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do not take this professor! She should not be teaching public speaking. She is a hard grader and doesn't explain what she wants from you until after you speak. She is confusing and gives dirty looks during speeches! This class requires writing and pretty much you have to be a perfect public speaker to even consider doing well.
It's not that she is a hard grader, it's the fact that she is very confusing & unclear with her instructions on assignments that I found to be the real problem. She doesn't prep you for speeches & relies too heavily on the book. The whole semester we maybe went over 2 out 10 chapters in class. Very lazy teacher and actually looses grades & papers!!
Actually was liking this class in the beginning until I found out how unfair the grading was. I got marked down on a speech for wearing black dress pants, black flats, and a white dress shirt with a shawl! Because it was not "bank job interview" attire. This teacher does not hesitate to make you feel uncomfortable speaking in front of people.
Very hard class. Grading is unfair. Makes you feel really uncomfortable about giving your speech and expects you to just not be nervous. Last speech she makes you memorize it and assumes that you are a perfect speech giver by that time. If you get nervous speaking in front of people then do not take her class, she does not care the slightest bit.
She was really nice but totally unorganized and I hated the way she taught. She got behind regularly and oftentimes did not know what class she was in or what day it was. I got an A because I was able to jump through her hoops but I don't feel like I got anything valuable from the class.
Very tough grader, boring lectures, and tests are really hard.
You are given assignments you are not prepared for. Tests on chapters that were not discussed. Groups tests are essay and are impossible because the study guides are vague, basically responsible all materials. Most difficult B I ever got and I have 90 units and a 3.50 gpa.
She grades so hard, unless this is your profession already forget it; you get tested on something then she teaches it, cant even read her feedback for your speech, overall the worst class experience I had at Sierra. Pick someone else
after this class I wonder what is going on with the administration that this teacher is allowed to treat students like thisnot only teach but she is the chairpersonshe rolls her eyes, and glares at the speakershe gives out As like they are golden ticketswont give feedback that helpsgives tests before she goes over the material
This teacher grades way to hard and has no common respect to any of her students. She walks into class at least 5 minutes late, and looks at us as if we should be waiting for her. A lot of group presentations, 2 assignments of going out to a group meeting and writing a paper on it, a lot of busy work. I wouldn't recommend.
If you're lucky and have a good group to work with, this class should be easy. If you have a bad group, drop the class. Class can have repetitive and very general content, which makes the subject boring. Doesn't give much feedback on presentations, but will give feedback on individual assignments. Generally, an OK professor.
I never got feedback that would make me a better speaker, and I was left feeling like I did the same thing over, and over, instead of feeling like I was learning and improving. Test pull out random sentences from the book instead of looking for an overall understanding of material. She is NOT open to students coming to her for help or feedback
"Mrs. Williams I have a question" ... "It's Dr. Williams, chairwoman of the communications department."
Class was pretty easy. It's a bit harder if you have a REALLY hard time with public speaking. I was surprised to see all of the bad reviews here! She was always willing to help, if you asked for it. She offered a little extra credit. If I had prepared for my speeches a little bit better, I could have easily gotten an A. I would take her again!
On almost every speech given, she would be giving the speaker the meanest looks. She made the class give feedback to the students speaking on the last speech given and marked YOU down points if you graded another student "too well". If you asked her any questions, she treats you like you're stupid. Tests were on material that was never talked about
She is super nice. She gives great feedback, she tells you what she's looking for. Overall a really good teacher!
Don't take her! She had no real structure planned for each class. She had us read a text book and do group projects, but there was no correlation between our reading (which we had a huge final on) and what we actually talked about in class. Very unorganized and somewhat condescending. She marked me down for calling her Professor instead of Doctor.
She was generally nice but gave means looks all the time. This was a Communications class yet, she had a hard time "communicating" and whenever you'd ask her a question she'd tell you to look at the syllabus instead of answering the question. Also, she demands a perfect outline and speech but won't give feedback on what you did wrong.
I was worried when I read the reviews of Professor Williams on here but I found her to be respectful and polite when I took her Comm 1 class. She went out of her way to help me when I started falling behind in the class and was very kind to me. I was only able to pass with her help and highly recommend her!
Not a great teacher. Rude and sometimes even mean. Does not understand people and is disorganized. Avoid her.
Very tough grader, however, doesn't give you a whole lot of feedback as to what you did wrong. She gives you dirty looks while you're giving your speech. She doesn't explain or teach you how to give a speech, she just expects you to do it perfectly. I have never worked so hard in a class and only received a C. Worst professor I've had yet.
Take my advice, just avoid taking her class. She is unclear, her class is unorganized, and she can be blatantly unfair to her students. Just take someone else! Whenever someone asks a question, all she says is, "look in the syllabus". She never addresses the question and just tells the student to read the syllabus. This class is a waste of time.
Very clear about what is to be done, inspiring, responsive and helpful, understanding. Good class. I hate speaking in public but it was fun and she's very supportive.
Extremely disorganized, late to every class, not clear about expectations, gave two large projects at the same time due within days of each other! Hardest general ed class.
The one thing that upsets me about this teachers is her lack of compassion for the course. She acts like she loves speech; However, if she did then there wouldn't be as many complaints. I asked her for help on a major speech assignment and she helped me, gave me feedback, I followed through. She gave me a C on HER own suggestions.
Where do I begin? Dr. Williams only lectured twice throughout the whole semester! Each group basically taught themselves the material and final paper we wrote on the last four chapters she didnt even teach us! She was very disorganized and unclear when she gave out assignments. Lastly, she only talked to students when they approached her.
For a communication professor she is really bad at communicating. She is also very slow at responding to emails and keeping her class updated. She also put me in an awful group for small group communication and that hurt my grade a lot. She does not understand simple questions. I am a good student and I don't recommend her at all.
If you are willing to put in the work she is willing to work with you. Just like every other Professor (for the most part) you have to be willing to communicate. She is very sweet, and will help guide you so you can do your best work.
AVOID HER, the first week of class I contracted covid-19 and missed 2 weeks of class. I was given ZERO COMMUNICATION from her over missing assignments, my told my classmates to help me catch up. When I got back, she made no effort to catch me up on anything, take tests, etc. and she put in ZEROS for all of my missing work that never got graded.
