Margie is an awesome professor! She's the kind of teacher that can work a really hard problem on the board, and when she's done you think "hmmm...that wasn't so bad!". She grades fairly, and her tests aren't bad. As long as you keep up with reading and go to class you'll be fine! I think she only teaches the summer session.
Margie is a great teacher! So funny! She often rambles about funny experiences but she still manages to make things clear. Also, she used the old edition of the text so we would not have to spend $1000 on it. I got mine for $10 at McKay's. :)
One of the best teachers I've had in college. I had both physics classes with her and I never got less than an A on any exam. Go to class and do the homework and I promise that the exam questions will look VERY familiar.
Great teacher. Really cares if the student understands the material. Do the homework and the tests are a breeze.
She is a good teacher. i enjoyed lectures and some demonstrations. i am a freshman and did fairly well in this class.
She's a wonderful teacher- she explains things very well and really makes it relatable to your future career. Class goes by really quickly, she's always in a good mood which makes class a joy to go to, and she is always more than willing to help. One of the smartest people I know- she explains the most complex theories so easily.
Great teacher. Her tests were really fair and she'd help with anything she could. hardest thing was webassign which was a huge pain. i had so much fun in this class. labs werent bad either. take her if you can
Wonderful teacher. Funny and helpful. Attend class and do assignments and you will be fine. Homework is math based but tests are mostly conceptual, which makes them easy. Class is not entirely mandatory, only when there are "in class assignments" which is group work, but come to class anyway because it is the best way to know what will be tested.
Margie is the-bomb-dot-com! I was retaking the class when I had her and I went from a D+ to an A in the course. Attend class, read the lecture notes, and do your homework, and you are definitely sure to pass. And on top of all that, she is more than willing to help! She genuinely wants her students to learn. She's the best professor I've had!
I LOVE MARGIE! I had no interest in Physics and was really nervous about taking it. But Margie was awesome. She posts all the notes and examples online so you can focus on what she's saying in class instead of scrambling to write everything down. TAKE HER!
If you have to take physics 221 or 222, Margie is the professor to get. Test are multiple choice and concept based. She is very fair. I love this lady.
if u come to class do the homework and pay attention its an easy A
Best teacher ever!!! Helped so much! Tests are ALL multiple choice, she drops your lowest test grade, and really does want you to do well. Very prompt and helpful answers to ll questions, emails, etc. Awesome awesome teacher! TAKE HER!
She is one of the best teachers at UT! She really cares about her class and is always willing to make it better even though it already is at its best. Definitely you dont want to take any other for Astronomy!
Margie is the best! Do all hw assignments, come for in-class activities, and come for lecture. There's notes every lecture and a detailed study guide every exam. There's also a lot of extra credit ops. Great great teacher. And so sweet too. Love her!
Margie was such a great and helpful teacher. She gives a ton of extra credit you just have to take the time to do it. I thought I would get a C or D in this class and I came out with an A- Lectures can be boring but go to them. Take her. You won't regret it!
I'm in Margie's class right now and she has actually made me like Physics. She is very helpful and her explanations are clear. Assignments are just challenging enough but nothing crazy. I like going to her class because she is an engaging lecturer. Take her and you won't regret it!
Lectures are dry, but she gives a ton of easy extra credit. Exams are easy if you read the chapters and take decent notes. I would definitely recommend taking her, she makes astronomy fun and easy.
margie!! very helpful, very nice woman. had her for 9am lecture and she made the class bearable. lectures arent mandatory(she puts the powerpoints online) unless there's an ICA, which are super easy. she drops lowest exam grade and offers a bunch of extra credit so there's no reason to get a bad grade in her class
Good professor, difficult material. She posts lectures on blackboard, so class isn't mandatory unless it's an in class assignment day. Lots of extra credit opportunities help because I thought the tests were hard. She is also open to students coming and asking questions and responds quickly to emails.
I honestly didn't learn a ton in this class. The concepts are kind of difficult, and i averaged a 70 on every test. Margie gives TONS of extra credit that go directly to your test grade. I ended with a 103 average. Easy A if you do the extra credit and come to class on the days she does in class assignments. I rarely used the book.
Margie is the literal best. I failed 222 with Joo and made an A in Margie's class with little problem. A few in class days but they really help you learn and boost your grade. Extra Credit and Practice exams almost exactly like the real exam. Take her and love her like everyone else! She is the coolest professor I've ever had!!!
I took Margie for Physics 161 as a requirement for Architecture and Design majors. Although the material was difficult at times, the way she grades and the opportunities you have to succeed will allow your grade to flourish. I made 80s on all the tests and expect to make an A.
I made a 29 on the first test, but then learned all you had to do is study the homework, and my tests became A's and B's! She drops the lowest test grade, and if you like your GPA before the final you don't have to take it. DO THE HOMEWORKS, they are so easy and the extra credit is amazing! I came out of this class with an A - grade was over a 100!
2nd best STEM professor I've had in college/university (1st Dr. Reeves at Pellissippi). She's very into her field and she does her best to liven class up with jokes and interesting side notes. I really like astronomy so I really enjoyed the class overall. There is a lot of material on the tests, but she doesn't control that. Take her!
Can be tough but she does care about the subject and her students. She expects you to act like you are an adult but otherwise she is kind and funny. I thought she had a geeky sense of humor (think Star Trek jokes) but I really enjoyed taking her class. One of my all time favorite professors.
(actually for physics 102) I really enjoyed this class. Physics is hard but Margie made it interesting and fun. She is so passionate about physics and it makes the class great. The homework and in class activities are all competition grades but are also very helpful for the exams. She drops the lowest exam grade! TAKE HER
Great professor. After having to continually deal with arrogant, upper level engineering professors, Margie was a breath of fresh air. Goes out of her way to try and help everyone get good grades, gives extra credit, tries to make class interesting, and genuinely enjoys her job. Made quantum mechanics a fairly painless subject.
Margie is one of the best professor I have taken at UT. Her class is not unnecessarily hard and teaches you everything you need on the exam. Lectures are not bad at all since she makes them very interesting. She give a bunch of extra credit as well. You will learn a lot and will make an A. TAKE HER
Margie is one of the best professors I've had! She genuinely wants you to succeed in her class and she offers tons of extra credit. The tests are hard but if you study you will do fine on them. Plus, if you're happy with your average after the first 3 you don't have to take the final. As long as you do your work in this class you will get an A!
GREAT TEACHER!!!! Probably my favorite teacher from my freshman year. She makes it incredibly easy to pass. Just study everything she posts on BlackBoard and you will be good to go for the tests. She offered super easy and kinda fun extra credit, you write like 1 page and it adds like 5 points to your grade. I ended up with a grade over 100
Such a good professor! So sweet and nice. Physics is generally a hard class, and no one really knew what was ever going on but her lectures were good, and she was always really helpful whenever I went to her. I'm taking her again for physics 222! I definitely recommend her!
I had her for ASTR151 and am taking her again for PHYS161. One of my favorite professors at UT! As long as you do the work and go to class, you will pass. She gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit so via online homework so that your grade won't necessarily tank if you bomb one exam.
Margie is a great professor. Although her tests and homework are hard, she is very encouraging and gives plenty of extra credit. Her powerpoints are very helpful, but you need to know the material very in depth for the tests.
Margie is one of my favorite professors at UT. She tries really hard to make her class fun and takes an interest in getting to know her students the best that she can. This is the easiest class ever as long as you do all of the homework and easy extra credit! You don't have to go to class but she will give pop quizzes if attendance gets low.
She is so funny and her lectures are not bad at all. She takes attendance maybe once a month and it is random, but it won't hurt you if you don't show up. All notes are posted online.
Margie gives a ton of extra credit. Do it. She's a great teacher and explains well.
Solid choice if you want an A. Sometimes I feel like she can be a bit too easy because of how much Extra credit, but she really is also a good teacher. I've understood physics in her class way more than the other physics I took. Only slight I'll put against her is that she's the slowest grader I've ever seen.
I love Margie! She is one of my favorite professors at UT. Her classes are so easy and as long as you do the homework there is no way you won't make an A in the class. She's super funny and caring. Definitely take her if you ever get the chance!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Margie. One of the best professors I have ever had at UT. Very personable and knowledgeable. She is a great professor and gives so much extra credit. If you get to know her well, she is one of the professors I would HIGHLY recommend getting letter of recs in the future. At times, I feel as though her class is too easy.
Incredibly easy A. She gives so much extra credit that you honestly can get an A simply by putting forth a little bit of effort. Only downside to Margie is she really is so easy that at times you can get away with doing well without learning anything. What you get out of it will hinge entirely on how self disciplined you are which can be tricky.
One of best professors at UT. Gives a ton of extra credit; therefore, if you put in effort, you will get an A. I was terrible at physics but she worked with me especially when I went to office hours because she wants to see everybody succeed. I'm gonna miss her! Attendance isn't mandatory but for PHYS161 I recommended you still go to class.
Really passionate about what she teaches and makes a huge lecture class worth showing up for. Do your homework and look over the material, not even technically study, and you'll get a B. Put more effort/do extra credit and you'll get an A!
Margie was very kind and respected. She gives a lot of extra credit so no one should be worried about failing.
Margie is awesome!! I hate physics but she made it bearable. I almost failed physics last year but with her I got a 97. She really helped me learn the information and made me enjoy coming to class. She is so funny and relatable. Would take her again!!!
Margie is great!! I didn't pay attention much in class but she's really funny and not boring in the slightest. I thought with my test grades i'd barely be making a B (at best) but the way she does averages makes it so easy to get an A. Attendance definitely not mandatory but sometimes she gave extra credit for just showing up, so its kinda worth it
Marige is GREAT! Such an easy class! Physics is hard, but she does the best she can to make it learnable and easy. The tests are difficult, but don't stress, the way her grading works is that nothing is weighted, so sometimes your homeworks are worth more than tests. I failed my first test and still got an A. TAKE HER.
Keep in mind as you read this that I didn't pass the class, but damn these tests are hard. You really have to go to class and write notes every time or you will not make it. One thing i'm not a huge fan of her is her attitude, she is very gruff but also caring, so it makes her not super approachable.
I had her for Astro 152 and in all honesty the class itself was extremely boring, but she made lectures fun and throws extra credit at you. She drops your lowest test score, and if you do the extra credit it is equivalent to one test score so its virtually impossible to get below a B in there. Show up and do work and you'll be fine.
Dr. A is very passionate about Astronomy and does her best to make it interesting. I averaged a 66 on the test and with all of the extra credit she gives I still ended up with an A. There is a lot of homework but it does help your grade. Also, be sure to do ALL the extra credit. Very easy class!
The grading scale makes it almost impossible to fail and extremely easy to get an A. I didn't even do well on the tests but there was a lot of extra credit to buffer it. Attendance isn't mandatory except for the in class activities. Read over the powerpoints and study guide and you'll be fine for the tests. Very minimal effort for a science class.
Margie is so funny. Lectures are sometimes boring but she keeps class entertaining. She actually makes an effort to get to know her students. SO MUCH EXTRA CREDIT!! As long as you at least try, you'll get an A.
Margie is hilarious and smart as a whip. The tests are hard but the extra credit she offers is very generous. She is great at explaining difficult physics concepts in class and in office hours. You can tell that she tailors the class specifically to cover MCAT material, which is really helpful since most of those taking this class will take it.
Margie is amazing!! She makes great jokes, really knows what shes talking about, and very understanding. 10/10 would take a class of hers again.
Super easy class, really easy A. Have to show up for 5 of 7 "in class activities" but its pretty much show up and get a 100 on them. The material is hard but powerpoints are exactly what is on test/online hw (unlimited attempts on hw). Drops lowest of 4 tests. DO NOT skip out on the extra credit. Easiest college class I've taken as a sophomore
Margie was a great professor and helped very much so during office hours. Actually doing the HW helps with exams. She gives a good amount of extra credit to get you a solid A. She is ridiculously hilarious during class and I would advise attending because she gives good examples for the topics she discusses. Overall a very good and caring person.
Margie is a great professor. She offers so many extra credit opportunities, and they are 100% worth doing. An A is very doable with the extra credit and the lowest test grade being dropped. She also drops the lowest two in-class activities, so I didn't even have to go to the last one. Take this class!
Not gonna lie, this class was hard. However, the tests are a lot easier than the homework in my opinion. If you study the PowerPoints and the in-class activities "ICAs" that she does about every 2 weeks you'll get a good idea of what could be on the tests. She gives a lot of extra credit which is super cool. She's a real character too, very funny.
She is awesome, her exam are very very hard however she offers so much extra credit and gives out extra credit every exam therefore this class is an easy A. I have a 59% average on my exams but I did all extra credit opportunities and ended this class with an A. Highly recommend shes an awesome professor.
margie is a solid choice for astr/natural science. she is really nice and can be funny. the tests are kinda hard, but there's literally so much extra credit that if you fail all of them you should end up with at least a B, if not higher. overall i really liked her
Margie is a great teacher! Make sure you come to class and do the homework and ICAs and you'll pass the class no problem. She's also extremely funny. The tests are very hard, and make sure you do the extra credit! They're super easy and boost your grade up tremendously.
I did not enjoy her class in the slightest. She did not make the material interesting at all & reads directly from the powerpoints that I could do on my own. You will most likely have to re-teach yourself everything. She doesn't take attendance and doesn't use clickers. Tests are identical to the ICAs and quizzes. Offers tonsss of extra credit.
By far the nicest professor I have ever had! She was always the sweetest person to me and everyone. She taught very enthusiastically and with much depth. As far as classes have gone, her class was the only one at any of the 3 different colleges I have attended, where I felt like a comfortable sense of respect and attention.1
I really loved having Margie this semester! She explains everything really well and will answer any questions you have if you dont understand. Try hard on the homework and class activities because the questions on those are basically identical to the test. Easy A if you pay attention and do your work on time!
Dr. Abdelrazek is such a sweet lady! Her class is so easy as long as you don't have missing assignments! The tests come directly from the notes, and if you are happy with your grade the final is optional!
She is a great great teacher. The material isnt easy but her lecture notes are accessible before and after lectures. Homework is an easy 100 if you do the work. Do what you can and then bring any questions to office hours and she will help you master it. Tests are hard but fair and not weighted too much to make it hard to succeed. Love Dr. A!
As long as you do the homework and give minimal effort in studying for tests, you will be fine in this class. I took this class for fun, as I needed a few more hours on my schedule, and I must say learning about the Universe in her lectures was very interesting.
Margie is a queen, and everyone should take this class from her. You do your readings and homework outside of class and group work in class, and Margie and the TAs walk around answering any and every question you have. I have a 99 in the class. I've never had a 99 before. Take this class if you like having a high GPA.
She's really cool. Enjoy being in the class, though definitely be prepared to do A LOT of work outside class time. Flip classroom so learning material outside of the class before rehashing and refining those skills inside. Feel free to ask for extensions (use them sparingly though or she will stop giving them). Open-book exams by the way.
Margie is great and she is so sweet! She tends to ramble alot during lectures but other than that she is awesome. The class is online and not proctored so do with that what you will.
Dr. A is a great professor and she really helps explain Physics concepts well. The class is really well structured and I think that she is an amazing professor and it's a great class. She does assign A LOT of Homework so be prepared for that, and the class does take up a significant amount of time. Other than that, I do recommend her!
Dr. M is very passionate about teaching astronomy. All of the homework and class activity assignments can be taken multiple times up until the do date. 1-2 easy assignments per unit. Her tests aren't easy, but they are not grade destroying either. However, she does drop the lowest test grade to help out. **Multiple extra credit opportunities!!
Great lecturer, makes sure we stay interested in astronomy. Unlimited attempts on homework and class assignments until due date. The tests usually have questions from homework on them but she will throw in some random stuff on there, too, which always made us mad. There are lots of extra credit opportunities to balance that out.
Astronomy 152 with professor Abdelrazek was definitely challenging. There are very few grades for the semester so a low grade or missed assignment could potentially harm your overall grade significantly. However, there are an allotted amount of extra credit sessions that you can attend throughout the semester which helped out quite a bit.
I took this course for my natural science elective, and it was worth it. It is useful. You got to learn interesting stuff in the course, but I am sure your point is to get an A not to work hard. I mean all natural sciences would require some heavy work, and this I would say was the easiest. Easy A if you attend. The lab also easy if want to take it
Dr. Margie is really sweet and passionate about astronomy. She gives lots of extra credit, class work, and homework which is easy and really boosts your grade. I am ending with a 101% and don't have to take the final thanks to her extra credit (she drops the lowest exam). Just pay attention in lecture and use the resources she gives you.
Dr. Margie is the best professor I have ever had at UTK. She is kind and SO helpful in office hours. If you want to do well on the tests go to her office hours and ask questions. You have to think conceptually, but she is straightforward and not trying to trick you. You have to attend the lectures to know what is going on but no attendance.
Professor Abdelrazek is caring and makes otherwise unexciting topics more understandable. She is incredibly lenient with grading making the class much easier. She makes sure students understand the concepts rather than solving specific problems.
I have yet to come across another professor in my time UT who is as passionate and caring about their subject and towards their students. She was also very accessible and understanding. Would definitely take this class again. If you are a very notes-focused student, you need to be at the lectures. She also goes through practice problems which help
She is very caring and has made lecture entertaining several times. Her tests are not out of that many points or questions, but she adds bonus points sometimes and drops a test which helped my grade immensely. She is a very organized professor and answers emails quickly as well!
Attendance not needed. HW has unlimited tries and tests are just conceptual and based on notes. Super easy:) Not much math.
I loved Dr. Abdelrazek's class! She was so nice and very helpful. Homework was due before class, and you review and refine skills in class. You can tell that she really cares about her students and physics, if you are struggling, she will reach out to you to see what's going on and if she can help. If you want to have a great semester, take her!
Dr. Abdelrazek was a great teacher! Reading & homework were due before class, and in class she gave small lectures and worksheets to provide practice. The class was mostly self-taught, but she was super nice and very helpful in making clarifications and contributing to understanding material during lectures or office hours.
This class was pretty easy. You have HW and CW that you get unlimited attempts on. There are 4 exams but you get expected from one of your choosing. She is a really nice teacher and is there to help you get a good grade. She offers tons of extra credit. Highly recommend!
Class was daily lectures where she spoke to us like little kids, but she sped through hard concepts. Homework had unlimited tries and was difficult but the tests were much easier. Grades were from total number of points, not percentages, so homework weighed about the same as tests. Everything was online and taking notes with friends helped.
Margie was a great professor! Even though the material was hard, she did well explaining the material. She provided lots of examples for the questions and while the tests were somewhat difficult, she always provided extra credit. Please take her if you can!!!
Absolutely take this professor! She truly cares for your success and is willing to work with you to succeed. As long as you take notes in class the class assignments and homework should be easy. There are extra credit opportunities offered as well. Only downside to taking astronomy is the lab, but that's not the professors fault.
As someone who hates physics and had a terrible chem experience, I was dreading this class. However, professor Abdelrazek clearly cares about her students and their success in this class. She drops the lowest exam grade and the final exam is not cumulative because she says she doesn't believe in that.
This class was extremely easy. The lowest exam grade (4 exams) is dropped and a few classwork assignments get dropped as well. To do well on the exams, all you have to study is the homework and classwork. Attendance is not necessary which is nice. Definitely recommend taking this class to satisfy any natural science credits!
I loved Dr.Margie, she was extremely helpful during office hours. Her class is graded on HW, In class activites, and tests. She adds bonuses to every test and drops your lowest test grade. However physics is a hard subject and the HW is very challenging
I loved Dr. Margie! You can tell just how much she cares for her students. I find physics to be a very difficult subject, however she makes it easier to understand, gives back lots of points, and gives extra credit opportunities to raise your grade. The work itself is hard but doable. If I need PHYS 222, I will make sure to take her class, so nice!
Learned a lot about astronomy in a class that I only signed up for to get a science credit! I loved her space facts, and you can tell she cares about her subject and students. Homework is all online but tests are in-person. Make sure to attend her lectures, they are very helpful and engaging, but not necessary if you really study the slides.
Dr. Abdelrazek was amazing. She was super cool and kind and managed to make physics an engaging and fun course. She offers SO MUCH EXTRA CREDIT. Anytime there's a typo on slides? Oh, that's an extra 3 points (out of 25) added to your test! with an additional 2 points thrown in as well. I got a 30% on an exam and still ended with a 104 in the class.
Second time taking Dr. Abdelrazek and I absolutely loved her class. She is incredibly caring. While I am not a huge fan of physics, she made the subject both digestible and engaging and I thoroughly enjoyed both her lecture style and the content itself. She gives insane amounts of extra credit as well, and the homework load is relatively light.
