the coolest prof. I have ever had
she exists on a different planet, one which i never want to visit again.
Great teacher during the tests she would even give out some answers for a couple of questions. Also really nice.
Dont miss class cause as smart as u r. She dont care. U could ace everything and still fail. HOW RUDE.
This class (with this teacher at least) is the biggest waste of my time and money EVER. She's nice and everything but the material is so pointless. I hate busy work and feeling like I'm in high school again. :(
I hated this woman and her class. It was nearly unbearbale at times. Out classroom turned into two battling factions of students, and she stood aside and let it happen.
Margie is super nice, and even though you do learn a lot, her class is very easy! Very sweet lady.
The only people who left the 'happy face' comments are students who don't give a **** about school. This teacher IS very easy and nice, but she should NOT be a teacher. She lectures about 15 minutes a week, gives movies, busy work, play games. Waste of time, money, and life.
I thought that she was a wonderful teacher. She is one of the few teachers that actually cares.
Margie is awsome and truly cares about each and every one of her students. She goes out of her way to make sure everyone's questions are answered and is an asset to the EMU teaching community. Her stories are awsome too.
Easy class. Any class you take with Margie is ridiculously easy! I dont think she lectured at one point throughout the semester. If you wanna learn something don't take her.
she was excellent when i had her and very flexible
WORST PROF I've EVER had at EMU. She doesn't answer questions, is unclear, and has the most boring lectures. I don't think I learned ANYTHING in this class. The only reason to GO to class is to get attendence points. DO NOT TAKE MARGIE'S CLASS.
easy A if that's what ur looking for, but Brooks ...I guess weird would describe her. she contradicts herself sometimes, you might feel lost, but like i said, easy A.
Labs made no sense, were more or less kindergartener exercises, VERY UNCLEAR, scatterbrained, i think she means well but any time i approached her with a question she was very defensive, wouldnt even tell me my exam date when i emailed her with a question about it, she told me to ASK MY SYLLABUS i got an A BUT THE CLASS WAS MIND NUMBING AND AWFUL!
She was pretty cool. Very understanding. At first it seems like she grades harshly, but as the semester went on i thought it got easier. As long as you do a speech and have it long enough you will get an A
Great prof. This class is a lot of fun!
Margie is one of the coolest teachers i've had especially as a freshman. This class was very interesting and the tests are not too bad if you study. She provides extra credit for participation
Loved this class! She is such a nice prof. As long as you go to class and have your speechs ready to give on the day assigned your pretty much garenteed an A!
I hated this class SO MUCH! Out of 150 minutes of class time, she lectured maybe 40. If you like games and group work, this will be a breeze; if you're like me and don't, DO NOT TAKE HER!! I was jumping for joy when the class finally ended.
Margie is a nice person, but a bad teacher. She doesnt explain things clearly and there are a lot of assignments, and they are all very long. She likes to change the assigment half way through without telling you. Its confusing! The class is boring and when she is in a bad mood, she can be really mean to you personally. Try and get another teacher.
Teacher is very laid back and no need to buy the book I really never used it.
I loved her! The material was easy, but she was a great teacher. very nice and understanding.
Margie is great! Loves to joke around, fun class, great participation. She makes learning fun and is a great listener. You will need the text book to study for mid terms and your final. Only a few easy papers and she grades easy. I love you Margie!
Im assuming she got one of her relatives to write that last post.."i love you"?..right.the class itself is good however she is very opinionated and close minded which means if she doesnt agree with what u have to say, dont say it. i agree with the others she also is not very clear when she speaks.when does she joke? i would recommend taking another
the prof is NUTS! half the time she speaks no one understands even what she's trying to say, the class is dead silent until she rephrases the question 4 times so that it makes sense!! this communications teacher CANT COMMUNICATE
Super easy.. take her after 4:20, a self proclaimed hippy and smot poker. The class was easy, lots of group work and partner exams. Easy A
if your looking for an EASY A... take her. If you dont like to waste your money and time, dont. She was a sweet lady but the class was easier than most of my middle school classes. She makes no sense half the time, By the end of the semester every time she opens her mouth you want to die.didnt learn athing she was nice but ANNOYING- and soooo easy.
I really don't know why she has all these negative comments. She is a very sweet, caring, and flexible teacher. The class is easy , but it may not be for everyone. She made class fun , although sometimes it did seem like a waste of my time. The class was just not that challenging for me.
Very nice lady, not that great of a teacher. Grades you on knowing stuff like her email address??(got that one wrong)and pointless information. A lot of group work, presentations and papers.
Margie is a good teacher, she is very understanding, and will help you get on the track you need to be if you fall behind. There are a lot of papers due, but as long as you do them right, you will receive an A. The only thing I had a problem with was I didn't understand her lectures sometimes, but if you ask she will explain.
Margie is aweeesoome! Comeon people, it's an easy A. Why are you complaining? There are fun exercises and easy tests. Make sure to buy the book!
Lots of group work. You teach the chapters, she lectures a bit. It's an easy class, and she's pretty crazy, but in a good way. She's pretty cool. I'd take her again. There are way worse teachers.
Pretty easy class. You teach the chapters yourselves in groups and there are really easy quizzes every week for the first month or so. There is a mandatory research paper for the class, but that's not that bad. I really liked her as a professor and the class was interesting.
I'm surprised by these negative comments. Margie is very nice, and helpful. Things may not always be clear, but she's always happy to clarify. Tests are super easy. If it's on the study guide, it's on the test. (and the study guide is very easy). A fair amount of group work. The book is awful! Just read for the chapters u present and you'll be fine
This class was fun only because you got to interact with your classmates a lot. Other than that, the class is horrible. If you want to actually learn something do not take this class. The prof. is completely unapproachable and does not answer any questions at all! She is very self-centered and childish. Take with a different prof if at all possible
MARGIE IS AMAZING, I love this class so much. Its the highlight of my day when I go to this class. Its a lot of group work, but the midterm is partnered, shes sure to make it easy. No tests, and always fun activities. Never a dull moment, and very easy. Text book sucks so its hardly used. Im so happy i took nonverbal communication. :)
I personally hated this class. I felt it was one of the most stressful and unclear classes I have ever had at EMU. She would say her criteria and then change her mind. Also, it is very redundant. I don't recommend the class at all. Awful!
I also had Margie for CTAC225. She's very energetic and funny, however she can be very unclear. She may hand out a document with information on an assignment, contradict that through her verbally explaining the assignment, and then not understand how students are confused. Her class is pretty easy if you attend and turn in all assignments.
Need book for group projects. Easy class, just show up. Attendance is mandatory to do well. Don't use your phone, she'll freak. Very unorganized. Partner midterm n finals, no other tests just quizzes. Lots of group work, easy class.
Margie seems like she is a nice person, but she is extremely old school and very strict for this being a college course. I would not take her again, but like I said, she is a nice lady, just not the type of professor for me!
She is okay. She doesn't let you use a computer or cell phone in class. If she catches you on your phone, she will deduct 5 points, everytime. Some people can't get an A in the class, because they use their phone. Her quizzes are semi-hard, the readings and labs are way easy, and the exams are pretty easy, and you can use a partner on the exams.
She is a great professor. She was very into the class and engaging. The class is easy and you will get an A, IF YOU ATTEND CLASS. It's all class work. So, if you miss a class, you may lose on an activity you cant make up. But no worry, she gives out bonus points, and you can do an exam with a partner.
Took her for a class called Listening Behavior. a topic which it became apparent that she is incapable of completing.
Speech is super easy. Just give her an outline, she gives you an example, and give your speech and you'll pass. Plus as long as it is legal you can do your speech on anything unlike some profs
Margie was a great professor, you just have to show up and do the chapter reviews which are very simple. Then the speeches which she lets you do your own topic based on the criteria. Group work allows you to get comfortable with your classmates. By the end you will improve on speaking in front of people. I know I did.
She made her lectures interesting and would get the class to engage in discussion. Most tests were allowed to be completed with a partner. All the projects are done in groups, so if you get a good group you should get a good grade in this class.
I had Margie for Listening Behavior. She loves participation. almost all of the assignments are done in class and the midterm and final (the 2 exams we have) are partner! otherwise no homework besides a "research paper" which is a joke. overall, if you go to class and do what she says it's an easy A.
For all her eagerness to teach and positivity, she just lacks in the teaching ability-department, big time. Nothing against her personally, she's just unable to teach. Her brain is so scattered that it makes retaining information presented in class impossible to even the most attentive students. Sub-Par the whole way round. Better luck next year.
This professor was fantastic. She explained everything and was always there when you needed help. I would definitely recommend her to anyone.
This class is supposed to be a more general overview of what speech communication is. Instead, we learned how to give; wait, she thought it was CTAC 224, PUBLIC SPEAKING. That's all we did all semester, with 1 group speech. The final is an impromptu speech that's 2.5 - 3 min long.
I do not recommend this professor. The teaching and overall flow of the class was very unorganized and she's one of those professors that talks with no clear understanding of what she's trying to say. During presentations she made very childlike facial expressions. Also very strict when it comes to paper formatting , VERY.
No respect for extenuating circumstances, even with proof. Scattered, unclear, lectures. Very unhelpful!! Strict about paper formatting, but content can be incomprehensible & you'll still get an A. Lets you use a partner on tests. Groups up the class to do skits more often that teaching. Boring and tedious but easy as long as you attend.
I am an Alumni, I had her for a lot of classes. Professor Brooks has helped me in a lot of communication courses and she is a wonderful professor. There is a lot of class participation, if you do not show up to class you will not pass. Pay attention and don't use your phones or computers in class she does take away points for that.
I can say that the class is easy, but her guidelines for formatting your chapter summaries and papers are ridiculous. If you don't have the headings and margins perfect, she will mark you down. It's supposed to be a class on how to listen better, but her voice is so monotone that it's almost a joke that she's teaching this course.
Dr. Brooks is an extremely kind professor who truly cares about her students. She really wants us to enjoy our class and public speaking in general. She also baked my class snacks throughout the semester. The course may be tough to some, but she is thorough and clear about what she wants. Every student seems to improve throughout this course.
The class itself I feel could have been better if the prof was different. If you can get a different prof then do it, but if you do get margie then expect reading reviews every week and in class participation is important.
Prof Brooks assigns a total of 5 speeches throughout the semester. All are fairly easy, with the longest speech being 35 minutes but it is a group speech so it isn't really as long as it seems. I definitely recommend taking Margie's speech class!
Margie is speaks in a monotone voice making "Listening Behavior" an ironic title because it's hard to pay attention. She barely presents the chapters, but makes her students do it and then has exams on them. Her instructions are either an obnoxious step by step process or way too vague to understand. Would not recommend.
Margie Brooks is awesome! She is always willing to help and really cares about he students. I would recommend her speech class to anyone!
She is extremely inconsistent in her directions. She will say one thing about an assignment, and then say the exact opposite and claim that she has been saying the same thing the whole time. Very unclear, gets irritated when you ask her to clarify assignments. I genuinely tried to like her and participate in her class. She's rude.
Oh Margie i don't even know where to start with her. She never knew how to answer our questions and when we did ask a questions she would just repeat it and avoid eye contact. By the end of semester i hated her lack of teaching ability and tried to skip whenever i could which wasn't much because attendance is a grade.
not a huge fan of group projects but this class was okay. margie is so sweet but her class was confusing in direction a few times. didn't know what was going on a lot. this class is all about showing up, that's all you have to do to pass tbh
Going into this class I was a little nervous as her ratings were adequate; however, this has turned out to be the best class I have ever taken. Margie was always clear in terms of directions and what she expected, which was super beneficial. Overall, do not let these people tell you not to take her, because she is the best! I highly recommend.
Doesnt use any technology so communication is lacking
The absolute worst professor I've ever had. I have been in college courses for 5 going on 6 years & this class has made me want to end it all. She will change a project as you're doing it & talk during the entire time you're working on it. If something is not exactly how she wants it to go, then the whole world is ending. Avoid her like the plague!
You can learn everything you need from the book for the test. you'll learn nothing from her lectures. her papers and group projects are easy but pointless. did not have a takeaway from this class. felt like I wasted money. she does not know her own material. does not respond to emails or post on canvas. doesn't care about students in general.
Margie is a real peach. Her lectures are brief and you're mostly working on speeches or listening to speeches. Go to class and participate and she'll love you. Chapter reviews due every week along with a speech every other week.
The lectures were a bit confusing because she went really fast but if you keep studying your textbook and look at the handouts, you will surely pass. Also the group projects and regular projects were a lot of fun so it should be easy for all.
Margie is one of the sweetest old ladies I know. Her speech class was always a blast before we went online. She gave such good notes on our speeches and genuinely cared about what everyone had to say. Homework is really easy, it is just notes from a chapter in the textbook. Just show up and pay attention, youll pass with no difficulty.
Margie is a character, she is very animated and forgetful sometimes. She isn't always clear on why you got the grade you did or what an assignment is supposed to be over, and she almost NEVER answers her email.
She seemed to not know what was going on except when it came to grading tough. The class was a pretty easy A (but I didn't learn anything) with about 4 speeches and a bunch of summaries on the textbook. She never uses any technology, never answers her email. This class wouldn't be horrible to take again but it felt like a waste of time
Professor Brooks is such a sweet lady. Her Speech class requirements are clear, as long as you do the weekly reviews, and put some effort into your speeches, you will be fine. She is a very fair grader, and gives great feedback upon request. Attendance is not mandatory, and she gives work days. I enjoyed and learned a lot in this class. I recommend
You have to show up to the labs or you will fail them, theres no make ups. She doesnt actually use class time to lecture though. we have weekly chapter reviews, but going to classes when there is no lab is pointless. she doesnt actually go over anything that really matters, so make sure youre reading the book more than taking in class notes.
She is a character. Easy to pass with her because she's so... quirky. To be honest she drove me nuts bc I didn't feel like I was getting my moneys worth. The most simple speech class i've ever taken, it's common sense. I didn't learn anything, though.
While I didn't have too many issues with Brooks, classmates made their frustration aware. Commenting on her being inaccessible, and hard to approach. She will argue about certain criteria on an assignment, even if those certain criteria were never made abundantly clear. Can be confusing and tedious as a professor.
she talks so much but says nothing. attendance is mandatory but theres no value to the class. you do labs that you cant make up that have nothing to do with what youre learning. she makes her own tests and doesnt spell/grammar check them so theyre confusing. class average was a 50% on the last exam bc she didnt teach what she said she did.
The class was easy to pass.
Her class is very easy, at the beginning is very stressful especially if you have speech anxiety. As the class goes on the speeches get easier. Homework besides speeches is very simple notes from the online book she provides. Overall easy class, just don't slack and miss a speech and you should be good.
Margie has her own since of humor. In the class we only did one group project which was very easy but did have to present. Had to write one page paper each week based on the chapter we were covering. Only had one paper to do that was a minimum of 5 pages but it was easy because half of it was defining and answering questions.
She is very vague and will have a lot of expectations. If you are going to take this course be prepared to be called out on your mistakes (she will do this in front of the class) and treat you like a young child if you don't meet all the expectations.
She read my papers and claimed to love every part of it, praising each sentence, but then graded me poorly because she changed her mind overnight and decided she didn't like it. She would have every student do a peer review and make them publicly berate everyone else, pointing out every flaw they had. This class was mandatory, but upsetting.
She flat out said not to email her so communicating with her is difficult. Its not a difficult class she just doesn't really understand people have anxiety or need accommodations in general.
Margie is an interesting professor. She uses jokes as a way to get bonus points at the beginning of class. Gets bothered by the smallest things that you would not think matters. Make sure to put your phone away and show up and on time, especially during the group presentations even if you have gone. Labs make no sense but the atmosphere is fun.
Margie Is a very sweet person and good professor. Twice a week we were required to write a two page paper summary of a chapter we read in the online textbook. Timing for speeches was difficult too compared to other professors.
Has to have all papers and speeches her way and there are NO rubrics and don't ask or fight her on that!
Do NOT take this professor, she is kind and funny at times but this class was NOT money well spent. She gets bothered by the littlest things, emailing is almost a no-go, she is vague with explanations, and her grading scale for other students is confusing. I only got good grades because I showed up and tried my very best and somehow got lucky.
There is a 2 page essay on the chapter each week that is busy work, a 7 page essay, and a group project. She isn't a tough grader, but if you miss a class its very hard to make up. You can't reach her/email her outside of class. Her critiques are inconsistent. It was an easy class, but it can be frustrating to work with/talk to Brooks sometimes.
Genuinely a sweet professor but really hard to talk and lots of miscommunication. Not a hard grader, as long s you show you actually put the work in, and attendance matters. No clear grading system or rubric, and a lots of review papers. Not an abysmal professor as long as you work hard and listen.
Great professor
Taking this class as summer course is very tedious because she has her students write a two page reflection on every chapter they are assigned (2-3/w) as well as ur speeches but its not too hard. She is a very easy grader and very understanding as well. My only complaint is that she does not give out a rubric but because she is so lenient its fine.
Lectures do not make sense. Classmates made their frustration aware. She is inaccessible and hard to approach. She will argue about certain criteria on an assignment, even if those certain criteria were never made clear or in rubrics. Don't take this professor, This class was NOT money well spent. Emailing is a no-go.
She seemed to not know what was going on except when it came to grading tough. The class was a pretty easy A (but I didn't learn anything) with about 4 speeches and a bunch of summaries on the textbook. She never uses any technology, never answers her email. Very interesting to communicate with...
Margie is a quirky but fairly easy professor. The workload is manageable with lots of short papers and speeches. Attendance is crucial, and the grading system can be vague. unstuck ai proved helpful for speech prep.
She's a very fun and quirky person, but can be a little confusing. Honestly, just show up to class and don't blow off your speeches and you'll be perfectly fine. She's not a very tough grader. She doesn't know how computers work at all. If the projector isn't working for a presentation, she'll just tell the next person to go as if that's the issue.
She is nice and is an easy grader, it's hard to get below a 90% if you turn it in. She is a little confused about technology. There is a decent amount of homework that needs to be printed out.
