Boringest teacher especially if it a night class...microbiology is so boring!

this lady loves her powerpoint. dont waste your money on the book. sometimes its hard to understand her with her german accent and class tends to be boring. study if you want to do well.

This class was easy if you were willing to study. The little BS quizzes were great for E/C. 70% of her exams were just her online study questions reworded. Some were identical. I used her online stuff, got an A, and was exempt from the final.
just study the powerpoint slides and go to class you should be ok...got a B

She knows what she is talking about, but if you don't already know some biology you have to study a lot. She uses nothing but her powerpoint notes. Not horrible teacher, but not my favorite. If you are put in her class...study the CD in the book.

Definately do not take her class it is extremely too hard and she is a terrible instructor.
She is really mean and you can't ask questions, but you never have to read the book and her notes are easy to follow, for the most part. She gives quizzes every week, so it's nice to have that reinforcement for the exam.

Well, what to say about schmidt... She is very agressive and strict... She does try to help you out with the extra credit. DONT TALK IN CLASS! she will kick you out. Just get the notes off line. They help. and dont miss class!

If you have this teacher, get out now. I had her for Bio 1100, and unfortunately if you have to take Microbiology, you'll have her to. She talks to low, and doesn't explain, and I went to ask her for help, and she pretty much blew me off.
I thought she was a little hard to hear at times as people said,you do have to study, but if you take notes her tests are not that hard! She gives extra credit too.
You HAVE to study for this class. Her test come from what she says in class, just print off her notes and go to class and you will do fine. You don't really even need the textbook...I never opened mine.
She's not stupid- if you haven't tried to understand the material and go to her for help, you won't get much out of her. Biology isn't difficult to understand- only the lazy people in class got frustrated with her. Just read, memorize and you'll do fine
She's a great teacher. Basically just, attend class and memorize and understand the info and you will do great. One of the easiest classes I had.

She does not speak very good english. She will tell you 90% of what is on the test, if you can understand that, you will get a B. Go to class and sit through the whole thing! If you put forth effort, it is an okay class.
She is very hard to understand and hear, so make sure you pay close attention and take good notes. Tests aren't too bad but make sure that you study for it more than one day. Good Luck!
The material is not hard but she tries to be tricky. If you pay attention you can catch her stupid tricks and pull of a good grade. But good luck understanding her accent and PLEASE turn off your cell phone!!!
bio 1100 was a terrible class with her, Im not lazy and i had to work my butt off last semester for a B, now I'm making an easy A in 1200 - I suggest taking someone else.
Hardest professor at ECU. She's terrible, I had to drop it, and I took it with another professor and made an A. Stay away if you want to make a decent grade. She's a major german witch.

Had her in 2001, so maybe things have changed since then. Easiest A I received at ECU. Never had to go to class. She used slide shows and they were all on the web. She gave quizes for extra credit. She also gave practice questions for her tests.
Accent is terrible. You really need to listen to understand her. You will get embarrased if your cell phone rings in class....trust. She will review 90% of the test before you take it. Class attendance is not mandatory.

The quizes for this course are easy, but, I don't know where she gets the questions for the tests(the tests are hard). I suggest not taking this course.
It is a very boring class, rarely says anything that is not on her power points. A big one turn off your cell phone or you/the class will pay. On the good side, her quiz are easy and she give a lot of bonus points out. The test however, are not on anything that she goes over in class

I will tell you honestly, this professor is fair and is not out to screw you over. If you go to class, pay attention, and take notes, you will end up with a B. If you study with 50% effort you will make an A. Most of the people who complained about her during my semester didn't put forth the effort.

Study the end of chapters and do the quizzes on the CD that comes with the book. It helps ALOT. I got an A in her class.

This class was easy. 3 question quizzes on fri, which suck she drops 2 lowest, her notes are on blackboard, just go and listen. Tests are simple, use the disk that comes in your book, the practice questions are what she uses. WORD FOR WORD!she is not the nicest, but its lecture, u never have 2 talk
Had her for 1100 and she was a totally different person this time around. Micro with her is not hard at all just study her slides and pay attention in class you will easily get an A. Bio 1100 on the other hand, she was a little tougher. But act like an adult and you will get treated like one.

Dr. Schmidt is one kick-butt professor that loves to have a good time in class. She knows her stuff! Moreover, throw in the hot German accent and she is downright entertaining.

Dr. Schmidt does not care if you are one point away, she will not give the student the letter grade they are right at. The class is not that bad if you study. Her accent is hard to understand. If you the student has an 79 be prepared to get a C.

Pretty easy class if your able to memorize powerpoints. Also make sure you know some things she rants about in class. Most of the time she says..."you need to know this.." "or this might be a test question" not really that polite to most people but i guess she's just one of those people you don't ever know how to take.

I absolutely hated this class. I was so bored in her class. I went to sleep almost everyday. You can't halfway understand the things she says. Just don't take this class unless you want to be bored. The only good thing is that the quizzes and tests come straight from the notes.
I'm sure she's a nice person but as a teacher she stinks. You can't really understand her and her grading system seems a little out of whack. For quizzes you need to read from the book but for test you need to read through her notes. Nothing is ever really clear in this class. If you can avoid having her, by all means do!

Everything is straight from her lectures. the slides are on Bb but she adds alittle in class. I made flashcards, and studied a little. Never made anything below a 100 on her test. I liked her.

I can't imagine a better teacher for microbiology. The lecture is never too long, and her tests are a breeze if you study straight from class notes.
Class can be tedious cause she teaches straight from notes, but she WILL add terms that u will c on exams, so attendance is critical. 1st test was easy, & I spent little time on it, but don't slack off 2 much, cause the 2nd & 3rd can b a lot more detailed. She uses many examples (names) of species. 3-5 hrs of study time for each test = A.

The class was great. She is very liberal with points towards your grade and offers lots of extra credit. She can be a little rude sometimes, but I think that is just her nature.
Horrible teacher, not willing to help, only willing to call you out in front of the class and put you down in front of everyone. Don't ask questions in her class; she makes it her point to make you look stupid for not knowing the answer to your own question. She has no interest in helping you. Tests with her are ridiculous. She won't start until every single person is seated, including latecomers. Very hard to understand, too.

The class material is not bad though, I took a once-a-week class and went about 50% of the time, didnt buy the book and still got an A, so if you think you can stand her........embark.
This class was pretty easy and fair. But, make sure you got to class and WRITE down all the things she will say even casually because they will be asked on the exam. I made an A but you have to go to class for it. If not, you can make atleast a B by just memorizing the slides and skipping the class.

The class isn't that bad, you can easily make a B. However, Dr. Schmidt isn't very nice to the students. The night class wasn't too bad, she usually let us out atleast 30 minutes early and she gives extra credit on the exams. People who say the class was hard just aren't very smart.

She is a good teacher that knows her micro, however she is very boring and the material is hard to listen to. Make sure you sign up for the night class, she is much nicer and less boring at night then her day classes.
She gets distracted easily during lectures, she doesn't cover all of the material on the slides (which don't have complete information on the material covered) and she asks exam questions about material never covered. She's a sweet lady but her teaching/testing methods are lacking.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS IF YOU CAN AVOID IT!!!! She is all over the place, she poorly explains and covers the material, and she tests you on material she only verbally displays once. I always had to attend class, otherwise, I would not pass her tests. Avoid at all costs.

Unfortunately, lectures are BORING. Studying the slides and perhaps forming study groups with your friends to discuss lectures will help you ace the class. Dr. Schmidt is not very clear and tends to wander off and drift away talking about random things as she lectures. If you're a nursing major you have no choice but to take her, um..good luck.
Took over the summer & got an A. How? This class is hard, but if you review everyday, never miss class, & pay attention there is no reason to fail. Bring a recorder, bc everything she says is fair game for the test. She grades fairly, even give some extra points due to difficulty of class. This class is not for lazy students that don't go to class
Dr. Schmidt is very hard to understand at times because of her accent. She really knows what she's talking about, so if you can get past that, the class is fairly easy. Attendance is not mandatory, which was nice because her lectures tended to be pretty dull.
EASY! If you didn't make an A in her class its because you just didn't even look at your notes. I got a 107 on her first test and she drops your lowest test grade. She's not very approachable, but honestly if you're studying you shouldn't need to.

Awesome class. I loved it. You have to work hard and pay attention otherwise you will not do well. Also go to class, its important to go or you will miss stuff on the test. Tests are partially multiple choice, fill in the blank and short answers. Again if you try you will do well but you have to try.
She is German so if you sit to far back you wouldnt understand as she doesnt have the mic loud enough. She cracks jokes, kinda funny ones. She gives you the powerpoints to print. Honestly I got the book and I think if you take clear notes you wouldnt need the book. Quizlets dont really help. Doesnt take roll.
Really easy class & a good professor. Tests directly on material covered in lectures. She does test on things she discusses that are not in the slides, so it's in your best interest to go to class. Class is funny and she ends early. Don't buy the book, she doesn't use it. Let's you switch sections for lectures and exams. Overall, enjoyed her class.
Dr. Schmidt can be pretty funny, but she is also very stern and can often times be rude. Just show up to class, take notes, and study those along with the quizlet and you will be fine. I made a 100 in the class by just doing this. Gives 3 extra credit articles per test so make sure you show up because she only tells you their titles once.

Not to mention that she would repeat this at least twice every class. Her accent made it hard to understand. She knows what she is talking about but assumes that you know it. READ THE CHAPTERS AND STUDY!!!!!
Dr. Schmidt knows what she's talking about... she's also very sarcastic and a little rude. She doesn't take attendance, so either: 1) don't go to class and just study her powerpoints and the practice questions online, or 2) go to class and give her your full undivided attention (or risk being humiliated in front of the entire class)
4 multiple choice tests. I got over 100 on two of them. There is a final but you don't have to take it. Doesn't take attendance and gives you the ppts, but also gives extra information in class that can be fair game for the tests. Study the ppts and quizlets and you'll make an A. Gives out extra credit on each test.
She is a good teacher, sarcastic and funny yet no-nonsense at the same time. She knows what she is talking about but you have to come to class and listen to know whats on the exam, her ppt's are very sparse.
4 tests+cumulative final. On 4 unit tests she offers 10 pts EC, none on the final. She drops the lowest test, which can be the final, so I didn't even take the final. She makes flashcards and there are practice questions online which are often word for word on the test. Study using what she gives you and you'll do great! She's strict with phones
An A in this class is very doable. Just make sure you put in the day beforehand to read through the powerpoints, quizlet flashcards, and practice questions and this class will be a breeze. 80% of the questions on the test are from practice quizzes. Read the extra credit and know micro to milli to deci etc. conversions for a few extra credit points.
The class isn't hard. Some bio classes could help, but I just read the powerpoints and do quizlet the night before. I made over a 100 on every test and I wouldn't go to lecture since she reads the powerpoints verbatim and very boring.

She's not approachable at all so be sure to listen closely because she doesn't like to repeat herself.

Her tests come straight from the practice questions online. Don't ask questions unless you have to, she's pretty mean when it comes to answering them.

She basically reads from the powerpoints but every now and then she'll talk about something that ends up on the test. Gives you quizlets and practice tests. If you don't make a good grade on a test don't bother going to ask her about it she just makes you feel dumb for asking questions about what you missed.

Dr. Schmidt is very knowledgeable in her field of study. A little hard to understand at first, but once you get used to her accent just write down extra material she states that aren't already in the notes. The tests were easy in my opinion if you study all of the material.
Honestly, you can do fine in this class without her b/c she is by far the most openly rude and unapproachable person ive ever met. She is unprofessional and unpleasant to be around. She asked me if I was blind or couldnt read when asking if we were permitted a calculator for the first exam? Also doesnt respond to emails and hates questions.
5 tests including the final and she only takes the top 4 tests, averages those and that's your grade so you can bomb one test/not take the final and you'll be fine. All powerpoints are posted on blackboard but try to go as much as possible since she says a lot of important stuff that's not on the powerpoints. 4 Extra credit q's/test on articles
Please take this class with another professor if you have the chance. Her class isn't hard, but she is very rude and unprofessional. She drops the lowest test grade, so there is a possibility that you won't have to take the final. I barely went to class and made an A. She reads off the powerpoint during the entire class period...
A lot of people think Dr. Schmidt is rude, but I think its just a cultural difference. Once you get to know her (and give her a little sass) shes great. Immunology was awesome and I learned a lot. Attendance isnt required but you get a lot from her that you dont get from the slides. Read the book! Its easy to read and explains things fully!
Go to class! she says things in the lecture that pop up on the test. basically write down anything that isnt on the powerpoint slides and study that plus the slides.
She comes off very rude and tough at first, but its just the cultural difference. Over email, if you show respect she is very friendly and understanding. Do not take photos or record in class of her stuff, write down things not on PowerPoint. Easy class.
By far the worst professor I ever had at ECU. She is rude and doesnt care at all about her students. Honestly cant believe she choose teaching as a profession because she obviously has no people skills.
I had her for online class/in class. Yes was awful for both. She was always so rude and disrespectful. For your own safety never ask questions. I watched her basically call a student stupid for asking a question. Also for online she gives you no time to complete assignments. I work 8-12 hour shifts, we were given a 10 hour window. AVOID HER CLASS
I would avoid this class at all costs. I had Dr. Schmidt in person and online, and both were awful. The material should be easy to understand, but the lecture organization and format of the quizzes/exams make the class unnecessarily difficult. The exam/quiz questions come out of nowhere, and the time limit she gives it worse. Also, very rude woman.
I used 2X for her lecture videos. Write notes and key points she says in her videos BC you'll be tested on anything she posts & says. Her quizzes help prepare for the exam. Her exams were in-depth info. Print out ppts! Team work helps alot. Her final (general info) was easier than her exams. Use the Socratic app.
BIOL 2111: This is more of understanding what tests test for, what's in the test, the results/reactions of each test, the colors, and I recommend using flashcards. Make flashcards for each test and print out photos of the tests/colors. Do like a matching game, and I saw that most of the manual questions from the book were made into test questions.
I wish I would've known how to study for this course at the beginning because now I am borderline passing. DO NOT GO TO CLASS! Her lecture is only an 1.15 long but her lecture videos are sometimes over 3 hours! All test questions are found in the lecture videos! Save yourself time and just watch those at home and take notes!
this lady was a horrible professor, and doesnt know how to teach. all she does is speak in lecture and you can barely understand her. her tests are nothing like her lecture notes. do not take her class
Professor Schmidt is not personable at all. Her exams come straight from her lectures, so as long as you attend class and take notes you should pass.
This class is AWFUL, shes very rude and not approachable about anything. You cannot ask questions during class because shell act like she doesnt see your hand raised and continues to lecture. Only 4 exams & a cumulative final, no other grades. Overall worst class Ive taken at ecu, solid 0 for her.
Professor Schmidt's class is test heavy. You have to study a lot for her tests. The thing I found frustrating about her tests was that there was no guidance over what to study on her powerpoints. The only way I passed this class was because I would study days in advance and had a tutor. Attendance is optional however I would recommend going.
She only grades based on exams. She is not nice and can be rude; doesn't like to help students. Her exams are hard to study for, but not impossible. Try to memorize literally everything she talks about in lecture because some exam questions are very specific. You must attend lecture and write down almost everything she says or else you'll fail.
Only grades exams, everything is on the PowerPoints and sometimes she says specific things in class that she will throw on the exam. This class is basically flashcards, you'll have to study often but it's not impossible to pass. If ECU ever decided to offer another professor for this course, I would definitely recommend taking another professor.
This class is an easy A if you do flashcards. Go over the powerpoints really well a few days before the test and youll be good. You also dont have to go to lecture because she posts the lectures online and you can speed them up (she talks really really slow in person).
She allowed us to take all of our tests at home with no webcam. Lectures are long but not mandatory and if you study the powerpoints you should be fine.
