Laid back with attendance, treats students like adults, somewhat challanging.
Assignments are long but she does everything but write it for you.
Lots of interesting group discussions re feminist issues. She provides questions related to the weekly readings to help guide you. Provided you actually complete the readings, you should do very well and enjoy the course.
What can I say--Dr. Lovett is an asset to Saddleback. She is an outstanding prof and I admire her much. She knows her stuff, and knows how to teach it effectively. If you do the work, you'll be fine.
To teach us about Joan of Arc, she rode her horse into the classroom. She's funny like that. For the last class, we all made s'mores. Even had a campfire in the room. She taught us camp songs in Swahili. I have two words for Dr. Lovett: Love it!
She is a hard core feminist. All she want to hear about in her papers are how women rule the world and how men have put us down through the years. I would not recommend this class at all!!!
Lots of discussion from readings. Do the readings and listen, and discuss and you'll be fine. There are like three papers which are a cinch, just keep your readings. The only thing that suck was getting readings from the library
Cool teacher. She may be a feminist, but does not direct her class in only studying about women in history! Her papers are easy, take good notes, and you'll get an "A" for the 2 (or 3) essays. Fun Class!
A great woman, great teacher for this course. Had 3 essay exams, each a little difficult but you learn a lot from the class and end up with a decent grade.
Best Prof. at Saddleback. Yes a feminist, but not obnoxiously so, argue with her in class for fun. Almost no HW, you earn your grade through a couple short essays. You still learn a lot through in-class discussions and readings.
What's wrong with being feministic? She's intellegent, keeps the class motivated, and encourages critical thinking. Do readings. Quizes based on readings. Write good notes for 2 essays, and you'll ace the class!! =)
She's a very hard grader, and no not an easy A or B
She is a VERY HARD grader. There is 5 in class, open note essays not including the midterm or final. You get to drop yor lowest grade. The midterm and final are open note essays also. She is a great teacher and makes things easy to understand. Just do the readings and you will be fine.
VERY HARD GRADER really have to work for your grade. 5 quizes of the readings, which there is a lot of, the lowest one gets dropped, and your midterm and final off one of the 100's of readings you have done, she doesn't tell u which one, you just have to know all of it!
Hard to communicate ideas with her. She condemed any philosophy that conflicted with her own. She would also cut people off in the middle of speaking. All in all a good person and good professor. You will learn many things, "The Guys" lecture is still sticking with me today. BE PREPARED TO FIGHT!
Well, she's got a great sense of humor. I don't like her politics but overall she's a pretty good teacher. Be prepared to work your butt off for a good grade. You have to do the readings or else you'll be screwed. She can be pretty funny but it is not an easy class.
If you need to improve your GPA don't take her class. Who doesn't! Her class can be interesting. Many of the prof. including Lovett don't understand Saddleback is a jr. college. Even with a good GPA many 4-years college think saddleback is very ease college.
Wow, very tough class. As said before, don't take this class if you want to improve you're GPA. She does teach you though. If you're up for a challenge, take her (she can be pretty funny in a weird sort of way).
Best teacher ive ever had. Not a traditional by the book teacher. Looks at History from a different perspective then previously taught. Lets us see the other side of what happened. Best of all... Michael Moore readings and video
She is a hard grader. Of course I find most history classes hard. But, she is a good teacher and will teach you well. She runs a very interesting class. I didn't fall asleep once like I did in the pre 1700s class. The only major downside is she is very liberal.
I have graduated from UCI but took several of Professor Lovett's classes...I found her classes a bit difficult but loved her as a teacher. She's great and remains one of my very favorite college professors.
I took her honors class and it was pretty easy, alot of in class discussions but she is a hard grader on essays.
Great teacher!!! She teaches with group discussions on readings, and you find out a bunch of cool facts on history that public schools never taught you. Sometimes it feels like you're in The No Spin Zone, but she is way too much of a liberalist to be on there (lol). WHEN IT COMES TO A CLASS WITH LOVETT YOU'VE GOTTA LOVE IT!!!
best teacher ever shes easy everyone needs to take her class, open book tests all the time, dont have to worry about finals or midterms
she is one sided, if you dont agree with her, dont speak up, your grade will fall. it was a men must die class. i didnt like it
this teacher must have improved since i had her class, judging by the recent comments.
I actually dropped the class because I didn't need it. But I enjoyed her lectures. They were very interesting and she always keeps the class interested, she doesn't hide the disgusting details and cuss words. She is a very smart woman. Take her class.
Lovett gives one side of the story: liberal, liberal, liberal. Don't think it's possible to get an A either. I think you would be better off with any other professor.
If you want to know the side of history you never learned in high school, this is the class for you. She is smart and sassy and always interesting. She is a tough grader but a great lecturer and the amount of reading is minimal. If you are just looking for an easy A or a class you can sleep through, stay away. I thought she was outstanding.
She is a great woman, will have long conversations with you about your life and how you're doing. If you diasagree with her, though, keep it to yourself. Can be a real beeyotch if you rub her the wrong way. All in all, though, an easy course, and a really nice lady.
This lady is crazy... the class is long and very boring! She is very opinionated and could care less about anyone's opinion but her own. I did well in this class but felt that she is not a smart woman and incredibly stubborn.
Nice and smart lady. Very liberal. A little too opinionated in some aspects but I enjoyed hearing her side of things. Sometimes expected a bit too much on papers, etc. and an A was close to impossible on anjything. Class topics were rather depressing and we focused too much on tragedy, that got old real fast.
Her classes are very challenging, and rely on discussions, packets of readings collected from different authors, and long research papers, which are expected to be articulate. Lovett expects a lot from her students, and her classes have the potential to be very eye- and mind-opening to students who are willing to thoughtfully analyze readings.
lovett is a nice teacher and her class is a very eye opening experience. it focuses a lot on tragedy but the packet articles are actually quite interesting. tests are open book, but if u want to get a B or A you should analyze the material on your own rather than just writing facts given on the test.i wouldnt get on her bad side though
Horrible professor!!! I can't express it enough. All these people that write about how good she is are probably all teachers pets. She picks favorites in the class. If you are a guy you don't stand a chance! If she doesn't like you she will make you life miserable. It is her way or the highway. She is a feminist and doesn't believe any way else. S
I took several classes from Margot when she taught at another school. The people who don't like her probably wouldn't like any professor with an opinion that doesn't match their own. She's a tough grader, and a fair one. I mostly got A's in her classes, but when I blew a final, she gave me a C (which I deserved).
listen, she plays the favorites game and if you want to get a easy good grade DO NOT choose this teacher.
I did not like her at all...way too liberal. I must admit, the class discussions were very interesting but she is a control freak. If you raise your hand and say something she does not agree with, she will yell at you in front of the whole group and doesn't let you speak her mind. It's not that bad of a class as long as you agree with lovett.
Doesn't say what she wants you to get out of weekly readings but holds you to her expectations on tests. I thought some of the material used was heavily biased and i didn't feel comfortable expressing my true opinion in class which completely defeats the purpose, especially in a class like this.
This class is easy and interesting. Discussions are insightful, as well as the whole coarse in general. Every exam is based off questions addressed in the assigned readings. Also every exam is subjective; so if you don't like writing essays, don't take the class. All you need to do is quote examples from readings. Oh, didn't notice any favoritism.
Prof Lovett is passionate about her subject. She is insightful, and she will shoot down your opinion if you can't back it up. Tests are all essay open book, you will write A LOT. Don't stress about taking notes in lecture, none of that matters as far as your grade is concerned. Read the readings and write a lot on the exams, you'll do fine.
I truly enjoyed attending class. Disscusions were eyeopening. The readings assigned are to be read before class as instructed and you will do fine.
I took her class two years ago, but wanted to share my comments. She is very intelligent and knowlegable, so do not ask stupid questions. Clear on assignments and what expected in order to receive a good grade. Provided handouts were great choices. Read and participate in the class discussions, she allows for different opinions but substantiate it
I was the star student and this teacher hated me! She was so rude! Make sure you agree with everything she says, but even if you do,watch out, she feels threatened if students have read a book before. She ruined the class for me. I was most excited for this class, but after I met her I dreaded it every week. I would never recommend this teacher!
and she absolutely plays favorites!!! So be careful, if you don't kiss serious butt she'll make your life miserable!
She is the best teacher I ever had!
I took the online class & it was wonderful. She views history from a different point of view than many - she is a "social historian" & she really focused on the wrongs that the Western world has imposed on the rest of the world. She can be rigid about discussion participation, but she doesn't make you write a term paper & exams are straightforward.
Dr. Lovett's online class is like none other. 1st: there's no text book! She asks students in O.C. to photo copy materials. She'll e-mail readings to students who are further away. 2nd: The class focusses on the human aspects of history with emphasis on imperialism and oppression. If you like Noam Chomsky or Howard Zinn you'll love M. Lovet, Ph.d.
She is a great professor. In class discussions are fun and interesting. And she shows a lot of good films. You MUST do the readings if you want to pass the class. All tests are open note essays. And even though she's a tough grader, if you're prepared, you'll get an A. I definitely recommend taking her class.
Took online. No text, uses photocopies of source articles instead. Must participate in weekly discussions, at least 6 GOOD posts a week. Midterm and final are open book essay exams. VERY liberal teacher. If you have or can mimic liberal views, you'll do great. Not too easy, not too hard either. She seemed very nice. Grades quickly.
I took Hist5 online with Lovett. I love history but my experience with this class was just awful. First of all there is no text book, just an irrelevant packet with stories and quotes, no real substance. her lecture were a joke, it was one page with no actual in depth material. there was no paper to write, i fell she handed out grades arbitrarily
Picks her favorites and gives grades according to that. I took this class online, made a post every day and still only got a C. The whole class consists of discussion boards and 1 final, so really she can give you any grade she wants. seemed to hate it when i brought in outside material or appeared to have read a book other than the stupid packet
Margot is a wonderful professor, if you have an open mind she will keep one open for you. Do the readings and participate - your voice and opinion does count in the class. Although she may debate you in yours she is only wanting everyone to see both sides.
Margot is crystal clear on what she expects. 1. do the reading (really, read) 2. make some kind of insightful comment (no sorry, you dont have to agree with her. liars) 3. CONTRIBUTE to the discussion. Her classes will scare high school kids not used to real materials (i.e., not textbooks) and the socratic method. JUST READ
She is a tough grader! I got docked points for posting only on the weekends. At least I still participated! Lots of readings and in depth discussions and she likes to question you. Do not take!
First off, she is a good teacher. But, this does not mean that i agree with her teaching methods. If you are not a vocal person, DO NOT take this class. I am not and had to force myself to speak because 30% of the grade is based on participation. Tough grader, but if you know the stuff you will be fine. Must do the readings or you will fail.
I took her for Intro to Contemporary Africa, and how someone could make war and massacre and slavery so BORING is beyond me.. Literally the most boring class I have ever had in my entire life.
I am surprised at the reviews for this teacher! Granted, i got a C in her class but i deserved an F. all you have to do is do the readings ( which i didnt do) and come to class ( which i didnt do) if i had done both of these things i would have gotten an A. she does not require a textbook and gives you a pamphlet of readings for the semester.
Must post at least 7 times a week for an A! No tests, quizzes or hwk. Only discussion boards but must post every few days! Finals are two essays, very difficult but if you did all the homework and reading you will be okay. Must read about 15 pages a week and some weeks you need to watch movies in addition to hwk! Great class. Would take it again!
I took her 8 week class. She has everyone move the desks into a HUGE cirlce for a discussion. you have to read the lecture assignment (3-5pages) ahead of time. There were 3 in class essays as tests. They are LONG but fair/easy. She is kind of a picky grader but a sucker for quotes so use those. Overall she is easier than most, but a firm grader
First of all, all the comments about professor Lovett on this website are 100% true! She is biased, picks favorites, unreasonable in her expectations and demands, way too hard grader. There is no multiple choice tests in her classes. All the exams are essays. It basically means that you will have zero control over your grade.
UM YEAH SHE'S A HARD GRADER! i'm an A student & she gave me a B! a B! i don't rate professors unless i feel i should warn future students. stay away if you can! but if you must take her, good luck on the essay exams. her expectations are way too high for not having a rubric. those essays are what dropped me into a B.
Picks favorites. I learned nothing new and at times I taught the class more than she did.Teacher is biased and selective on what she will teach and most discussions are redundant. I spent hours posting and doing my own research. She does not teach much of anything her idea of teaching is asking you to read an article and then discuss it at length.
Margot is a great teacher if you act and think like an adult. She will make you think and view different topics from all sides of the story. As a woman her class has truly make an impact in my life. Some students just expect to be treated as teenagers and be sugarcoated but come on aren?t you an Adult. I got an A cause I worked for it.
Took her online course. The class consists of discussions every week, which can sometimes be interesting. During the midterm and final, you write paragraph-length answers to questions. Very clear expectations, I would take her again.
Let me start off by saying Professor Lovett makes this class A LOT harder than it should be!! Unclear expectations, and she is constantly contradicting herself. Then gets mad at the students when they don't follow her unclear directions. If you enjoy being frustrated, take her.
Tough class, but its definitely worth it. No textbook, you get assigned anywhere from 8-20 pages of weekly readings and the class is discussion based. Like I said, its a tough class but you'll leave with a different understanding and perspective of Africa (socially and historically). And, professor Lovett is a brilliant professor yet a lil odd. [6]
Good class, points out alarming things about society, culture and government in particular towards women. However she uses dated articles to state sources and she shoots down opinions or comments about the content if you do not correlate with the presented ideas. Assigns papers; grades depending on the facts only. Very awesome discussion type class
This class is basically a women history class. It's interesting but if it's not your thing, you'll have a bad time. And your entire grade is basically based on your participation. If you contribute multiple times (2-3) throughout lecture, it'll have a positive effect on your paper grades. If you're the quiet type, don't bother taking this class.
Probably one of the best classes I've taken at Saddleback thus far. It is entirely discussion-based, so there is a participation component to the grade; if you don't read, you're SOL. I looked forward to going to this class, and am now considering majoring in gender/women's studies. Dr. Margot is a great instructor!
I took her online class and had a very hard time standing out. She grades harshly on discussions and eventhough sometimes I tried hard I still didn't get a good grade. Skip her if you do not want a challenging course.
Hum 10 A H: Grade extremely hard on the very few assignments (or essays rather) you are given.Class is discussion based, if you don't like speaking in front of people DONT take this class. Will only get a good grade if you are a strong writer and turn in their idea of a good paper. Unclear on directions, talk about the same things all semester
She was the best teacher I have ever had at Saddleback so far. WS10 a lot of people take it for an easy A. She posted all of the readings and expects you to do it before class. If you talk and state good opinions and relate them to the readings you'll get an A. Her midterm and final were not hard at all. Readings are interesting. Good class overall
Teacher is very nice and patient with everyone.Just show up everyday and be prepared for your lead in discussions. You MUST keep in contact with your partner for your lead discussions or points will be taking off. Also be prepared to read the articles before class.Overall she is a tough grader, but both of her midterm/final is opened book.
Wonderful experience. It isn't an easy class, but that is what makes it so good. The readings are interesting, and she challenges you through the discussion boards. Do your reading, participate regularly, and you will do well. I miss the class, that is how much I enjoyed her. Very encouraging - she knows her stuff.
LOVED this class after taking it, but definitely not my favorite during...Very demanding - a reading assignment due each class and mandatory discussion (disc. worth 30% of grade so be prepared for that!). Regardless of what you have to say, say something engaging about the reading to get those points. Very intellectual environment.
Class is based on several relatively short essays (about 5pgs), one large research paper (10+ pgs), and class discussion (worth 30%). I cannot stress participating in discussion more than anything..read the material, take notes during reading, and discuss discuss discuss (even in the form of statements or questions, just do something!). Great class
Fantastic experience. She is extremely involved in the message boards, and encourages lively discussion. Read the lectures, think, and you will do fine. I wish all online teachers were as good as she is. She has a fascinating view on the world, and it will open your eyes in ways you never thought possible. Love her.
Worked so hard, had an an A going until she gave me a B on the final and ended up with a B in the class. No feedback on my final which I thought I would get an A on. If you do everything, post at least five times a week and read everything, prepare for exams, you will probably get a B. Her exams are timed and you too might run out of time. :(
Margot's class was awful. I love history and have gotten A's in every history class I have ever taken, except THIS class. After receiving a 74 on the midterm, I thought I have to just try harder. I answered more questions than required, made them more detailed, and longer, and I still received a C-, I really don't know what more I could have done.
I have gotten A's in every other history class. This is my first C ever. Do not take this class!
This was one of the best classes in which I have ever participated. Dr. Lovett is an outstanding teacher. She is dedicated to her students and I learned SO much in her class. Her commitment to history rubbed off on me and I am now inspired to continue researching past and current events. I have never had a class like this before. Take her!
Margot is a nice person, but when it comes to having the students "discuss" a topic, it's the equivalent of verbal worksheets. She attempts to make you come up with thoughtful responses, but you'll quickly find that she already knows the answer and ends up treating you like a child. Essays are graded by the proximity of your answer to her opinions.
She makes you work for your grade, but I learned more in this class than in any other history class. Requirements are 2 open book essay exams and posts to weekly discussions answering questions about the readings. Class participation is essential. There's a lot of reading but it's interesting. She gives you the exam questions in advance.
The best online class I've taken. She teaches you about the dark side of history other classes leave out. She's super involved in the discussion boards and gives you lots of feedback on your posts. I wish all online instructors were this good.
I usually don't like history, but Margot actually made it interesting. Midterm & final are essay exams, but she gives you the questions ahead of time so there are no surprises. Be prepared to do the reading and post lengthy comments to the discussion boards and you'll do fine. But if you're looking for an easy A, stay away.
Lovett is one of the few incredibly passionate and knowledgable professors at Saddleback who makes students walk out of her class feeling like they actually learned something. Unfortunately, she grades based on whether or not she likes you. Better get on her good side or you'll get a B, despite giving this class your all.
No TB, there are a lot of articles! About 2-4 articles to read before each class. It's all discussion based, so even if you're shy these topics will definitely get you talking. There's two analytical papers and the exams are also papers about 2-3 prompts per exam. It's a lot of work but you will learn so much! I loved this class!
Dr. Lovett is one of the most caring teachers I've ever had. She's a really interesting person to get into a discussion with and is relatively open minded. She wants you to be opinionated, knowledgeable, and know your stuff (what you read). The only hw is answering discussion questions about articles every week.
Professor Margot teaches in a way that makes history come alive. We did not use a textbook but watched videos and read primary sources to give a glimpse into the people behind historical events. She truly cares for her students and engages with us, even though it was an online class. History isn't my favorite subject but I truly enjoyed her class!
Dr. Lovett's class drew me in each week! I took an online summer class (6 weeks) so the class was accelerated, however, as long as you complete every reading, answer the assigned reading comprehension questions, and ask questions to Dr. Lovett for clarification, you will do great! Make insightful posts and do the posts before the deadlines!
She is an amazing teacher! You learn so much in her class widens your perspective. Lots of class discussions makes you feel comfortable there is no wrong answer. She is very casual and relaxed but does expect you to participate. She clarifies any questions you may have. No Textbook uses her own printable readings which are not boring. Men sign up!
Great teacher! You can tell she loves what she does. She cares about her students and does her best to help you. I wasn't sure I would like this class, but now I want to minor in Women's Studies. I always looked forward to going to class because the discussions were so interesting. Attendance and reading is a must. This class changed my life!
If you care about your gpa don't take this class. I have taken 400 level law classes easier than this. The class is discussion based and you must do your readings. However, even if you do, she thinks you don't. A lot of the class is opinion based and alot of it is her opinion, and She is a really hard grader. I had to drop to keep my gpa.
Lovett has a wide berth of knowledge about her subject material and is very passionate about what she teaches. While she requires respect (i.e., do the homework and show up on time), she is also facilitates an open forum discussion that allows for students to express their opinions. This class really sharpened my research skills. Would recommend!
All about her opinion and all about the readings; it killed my printer. It is not an easy A unless you write lengthy paragraphs and include sources as much as possible. 4-5 posts on a discussion board a week, plus going over the summary comments. Barely enough time for midterm & final -- both written. Class is interesting, but you have to work.
This class changed my life. I learned so much about myself and how the world works. Class is all discussion and you need to participate so if you don't like talking this one isn't for you. There's a lot of reading but it's interesting. Margot encourages you to believe in yourself and do your best. Amazing class. Everyone should take it.
Took her for her women's studies class and she's one of the best professors I've had. Her lectures are very informative and they do make you think. The course is fairly easy and I would say the most difficult assignment for me was writing a paper. Also, you have to participate in class discussions as it is part of your grade so make sure to read!
Professor Lovett greatly advanced my writing skills! I feel way more prepared for upper division work solely because of her. She challenges you to think deeply and broadly but is tolerant of your views (even tho mine often collided with hers). Her grading is very fair and helpful and she is very approachable. Put the effort in and it will be noted
All I want to say is if you want to keep your GPA do not take this class. I am struggling just to get a B because she grades ridiculously hard even after going to her office hours and getting a tutor. I would never take her again.
Professor Lovett opened my eyes to issues I hadn't known existed. Her discussion based lectures are inspiring and provide multiple perspectives on the world around us. She is an inspiration to me both as a woman and a student. She is the only professor I have had that I truly connected with and would strongly recommend any of her classes.
This class is almost solely based on participation, so if you don't keep up with the readings or participate in class discussions you won't pass. She's awesome and gives students the opportunity to speak on issues that are otherwise ignored in classrooms. She's super personable and caring. As long as you actually put in an effort, you'll be fine.
Margot is a very smart and helpful professor. But she is a very tough grader and expects so much from her students. This was a very hard class, but she was great.
I took a hum class with her and Mularski. They're both nice but this class was hard. Grade based on some essays, research paper, participation, and presentation. I barely got an A. Make sure you ask them to look over your papers before you turn them in so you can get a higher grade. Avoid this class if you're not a strong writer.
Margot Lovett is one of the most caring professors I've ever had. She really loves what she does and will put in the extra effort to help her students succeed.
Margot Lovett is a lovely human and an impressive educator. She constructs her classes with carefully selected readings and thought provoking discussion. She will illuminate social, historical, and gender issues in ways you have never considered. Don't be misled by the vengeful and lazy fools lashing out against her on RMP, try a class with Margot.
Margot's class was always a pleasure to go to. It is discussion based but she creates a comfortable environment where talking to the whole class feels more like a casual conversation rather than an intimidating presentation. She will see if you're trying. If you go in to the class willing discuss the topics everyday you will get an A.
I'm definitely glad I took this class. Margot is an inspiring teacher but she expects a lot from you. It's essential to read the material before class since your participation grade depends on that and she 's not very tolerant of people who aren't prepared. But if you do the reading and show that you're trying, you'll get a good grade.
Margot was a lovely professor who really felt passionate about the subject of Women's Studies. Her knowledge and passion for the subject is inspirational and contagious. I would definitely take her courses again. There is a lot of reading that is required for class discussions and class discussions are required for attendance.
Very hard grader, wants very specific things in her papers. Cares about her work.
Taking Intro to Woman's Studies with Professor Lovett was a life-changing experience. The assigned readings illuminated my mind and shifted my perspective profoundly. Professor Lovett is a caring, passionate and extremely intelligent educator. Her class was challenging, rewarding, and a lot of fun. She is so wonderful, highly recommend.
I have taken 4 online history classes and this is my 5th and favorite one . I am going to miss this professor! I wish I could take all of my history classes with her!
This was the best class Ive ever taken. The discussions were so interesting. I loved coming to class everyday and I learned so much about myself and life in general. I would definitely take another class with this professor.
Professor Lovett was an absolute delight to wake up to. She is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the subject and it makes you want to be excited to learn more about it. You will get the most out of the class by doing all of the assigned readings and participating in class discussions.
This class illuminated my view of gendered society as whole. I looked forward to coming to class every session. If you aren't talkative or down for thoughtful discussion based on assigned readings (1-10 page articles), the class isn't for you. Otherwise it was a fantastic experience and I would recommend the course to all of my peers!
Professor Lovett is a great person but her Gender Studies class totally messed up my GPA. I only took this class as a GE, which makes it totally ridiculous not to get an A. I read all the papers that were assigned every class. GET READY TO READ. Yet, I still did not earn an A according to her.
FYI : DISCUSSION DRIVEN VERY iNTENSE She uses a marking system to grade comments made in class. If you make general comments not specifically related to the reading you get a lower grade . If your comment demonstrates good analysis of a reading you get a high mark. She keeps a tally for every class. If you dont follow this you wont get an A
Lovett gets a lot of flak, not surprising. a lot of the ideas are very uncomfortable due to the truths of racism, sexism etc. these things exist recognize them and grow up. She gives very good feedback for the research paper, so follow the instructions, leave no stone unturned. you are fine if you back up any claims, evidence is good thing, yeah?
Great professor, took her a year ago and I miss how lecture heavy yet interactive it was, if you don't participate in the discussions you'll probably fail. You have to attend class and participate or else you fail.
Excellent teacher!
Margot is such a tough grader, try avoiding her if you can. She never really goes over what she wants and me not being good at humanities writing is not a good combo. If i had more time i might've been able to get an A. Didn't hate her but also didn't like her. would recommend someone else but also pls take HUM off the requirements for Honors prog
Please everyone take a class taught by Professor Lovett! Shes an amazing, passionate teacher. Class participation and doing the readings are important. You can learn a lot from her material.
Dr. Margot!!! Shes the best. She changed my life so much when I was going down a bad path. She is very motherly to her students and will feed you! The material is excellent and she is very thoughtful about the readings. The whole class is just conversations about the readings and how they apply to our lives. I have great memories from this class.
This class was empowering and inspiring. Prof. Lovett is kind and gives encouraging feedback. Her class was one of the most positive and impacting experience of my life.
This class was my favorite ever! I ended this semester with a whole new perspective of things. The curriculum is amazing and I will keep every reading, I hope to make copies and pass it on! Everyone should take this class and learn about these issues.
Margot was absolutely one the best professors I have ever had. She is skilled, exceptionally kind, and intelligent. I learned so much from the deep discussions in each class and through the homework. Her class has opened up my mind to a new perspective on life. Overall amazing teacher. Very insightful. Saddleback is lucky to have her here.
Terrible professor, wants LOTS of specific details in papers and will give B or C if even just one specific detail of an argument. Makes content seem super uninteresting. Overall just bad.
I work a 35-40 hr week job, take 15 units, and am still (currently) attain an A in the class. This class is doable, don't read into the negativity in the prior comments. Margot is hilarious, passionate about her work as a scholar, and is genuinely invested in your ideas! Overall, be an adult, manage your time, do the work; not rocket science.
Prof Lovett was the single most influential, inspiring professor that I ever had. Her approachability, compassion, and intelligence was truly inspiring to me. I discovered a love for research that I did not know I had. My confidence and analytical skills have, without a doubt, progressed due to her help and guidance. She is a fabulous mentor.
Great class! Margot is one of the coolest teachers Ive had. The weekly films were really interesting and most of the readings were also. The syllabus said that the class will challenge stereotypes about Africa, and it definitely did that. I learned so many amazing things about Arica and will never think about it the same way after taking this clas
This class broadened my perspective about Africa, encouraged me to address my own biases, and gave me a more thorough understanding of Africa. I learned so much that I'm embarrassed not to have known before. The information was engaging and always carefully selected. Her comments on my posts helped me improve my responses and grades.
Margot was an amazing professor. I learned so much from her. I have never been in a more enriching educational environment. She was very inspiring to me and made me more confident and able to speak up during discussions. Class participation counts a lot, and I felt more comfortable speaking up in this class than in any other.
I took both HON 13H and HON 14H with Dr. Margot. She was a tremendously inspiring and supporting teacher. Her classes enriched me in ways I could never have imagined. She helped me greatly improve my skills in reading texts critically and analyzing them. She was kind and her feedback on my papers helped me improve my writing.
Margot is an amazing professor. I was intimidated at first because it was hard for me to talk in the discussions but Margot was encouraging and gave me good feedback and that helped me feel more confident. The reading wasn't always easy but was really interesting and it was great to hear everyone's ideas about it. Everyone should take this class!
Dr. Margot is an outstanding professor. This course definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone, but with great, encouraging feedback, I felt a lot more comfortable participating in class discussions. Dr. Margot is so helpful during office hours and I definitely recommend seeing her for help on every paper. Would definitely take this class again.
I'm an Engineering major and wasn't excited about taking a Humanities class but Dr. Margot made the class really interesting. She helped me develop a topic for my research paper that related to my major. She was super encouraging and gave me great feedback on my papers and comments during class discussions. I'd definitely take her again.
Dr. Margot truly cares about student success in her class. She gives amazing feedback on papers. If you're scared about speaking up in this seminar-style class, she will help you feel comfortable! She also has lots of interesting stories, I learned a lot in this class.
I loved this class! Dr. Lovett's teaching style is inspirational. The readings and class discussions were interesting and I felt comfortable participating. The exams were all take home, which helped me because I don't do well on timed exams. Everyone should take this class.
Dr. Lovett is wonderful. She wrote the textbook along with Dr. Zimmermann. The readings are very difficult, but manageable. I recommend annotating every reading and do not fall behind! Get ready to talk because every class is like a socratic seminar on each reading. We also had 2 lit/art papers, research paper, and presentation.
Dr. Lovett is what I wish every professor could be. She helped me get out of my comfort zone and learn to think critically. She taught me how to find my voice and share my opinions. Her class discussions are truly life-changing. If you show you care about the subject, Dr. Lovett will go above and beyond to help you grow and succeed.
Dr. Margot is an amazing teacher who is amazingly accommodating and passionate in what she does. She encouraged me to push myself and do my best. I loved this class and will miss it very much. I learned so much and I also greatly improved my public speaking. This class made me comfortable doing presentations in my other classes.
Hon 13H with Professor Lovett and Zimmerman was a very fun experience. Participation matters big time and she is a very tough grader, however she is more than willing to help with papers and assignments and is very caring towards her students. Your graded on your participation, 3-4 essays and a 10-page final research project.
She is insincere while pretending to be sincere. If you don't accept her views she is rude and disrespectful. It's sad that professors like her continue to teach.
A sweet and intellectual woman but as a professor, she was incredibly and unnecessarily tough on her students. Your grades do not reflect your efforts no matt
Margot was a challenging but rewarding professor. The workload was heavy, but engaging with her methods helped improve my critical thinking and writing skills. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for efficient study prep.
The videos and readings were very interesting and challenged my biases about Africa. The workload is heavy but doable for an 8 week online class. When I was going through a hard time and thinking I might have to drop the class, she worked with me to help me finish it even when she didn't have to. She was always understanding of my situation.
This was one of my favorite classes. The readings were meaningful and the interactive discussions were interesting because we got to hear everyone's ideas. Dr. Margot and Dr. Ray were always available to meet with me to discuss my papers. Their feedback on my rough drafts helped me improve my writing and critical thinking.
She is super friendly but a difficult grader, so write more than you think you should and give lots of evidence. The final is tough, but she gives you the questions at the beginning of the semester, so start compiling all your information early. I wouldn't take this class if you aren't interested in history, but it is worth it for history majors.
Requirements for the class were two exams and posts to discussion boards. There are weekly deadlines but she lets you turn in late work if you email her. The content and discussions were meaningful and I learned so much from them. This class inspired me to keep seeking accurate and thoughtful information about gender and sexuality.
Worst class i have ever taken. Constant unrelated political rants about Trump. If you dont agree with her, your grade will SUFFER. Reading every day. 8 page essays about the most boring things in the world. This was the only class that ever got a B in at saddleback (all the rest are A's). So political and one sided. Worst class ever. DO NOT TAKE!!!
