Really nice lady, but tests were really hard. The whole class is only 3 tests and 2 papers. Plus 2 extra credit papers; if it wasnt for these I would have finished this class with a horrible grade.
This class was cake, you don't really have to read the book, teacher is very nice and reasonable, the tests were rediculously easy and questions were always fair.

This teacher is a joke. Her exams are damn near impossible and gives no notes or study guides on 8 ch. tests. She also doesn't curve when her entire class has failed. Her lectures are unplanned and boring as hell but she does give you extra credit to boost the horrible test scores.
Sometimes she didn't explain things very throughly, but other than that, she was an excellent teacher. You always knew exactly what would be on each test, ahead of time, and she always did a very good review. It would take effot to not pass this class.
good professor, if u have to take this class recommend her,
class is about 3 hours and its really really boring but i dont even study or read the book and i get As and Bs
good class, but boring as all hell. i had a very hard time staying awake, and i even had a couple friends in the class. good luck with this one. the class itself and the assignments are easy, its just really hard to stay awake and pay attention.
Overall, a good but boring class. The class is out of only 200 points, meaning you can only miss 20 points. There are 3 50 point exams 3 15 point quizzes and 5 points of attendance. There are 10 potential extra credit points on every exam. The class is not hard, she gives a great review before every test.
loved her
she is a great teacher, very nice, and interested in her job, knows a lot about the subjects
easy class - sometimes she just talks to herself for the whole class. really nice woman - really passionate about her job - take notes - study for quizzes - and read the articles in each chapter..she picks 1 from each chapter and puts an extra credit question from each chapter on the exam. if u are doing bad she lets you write an extra credit paper
GREAT TEACHER
good teacher. make sure you read the chapter before the class and take notes. the exams are multiple choices. i reccomnd her if you like anthropology.
she made this class harder. people take this class for gec requirement but she wont understand it!
Take this class. It is pretty interesting and an easy "A" as long as you go and take notes. She sends out a study guide before each test that is very helpful.
She was usuless. Her lectures are extremely boring and never planned. All she ever does is write on her smart board...which is almost impossible to read because her handwriting is awful. The tests were incredibly easy though.
Pretty good teacher who makes the class super easy. I went three weeks without attending class, but filled out the pre-test study guide and got an A on what is supposed to be the hardest test of the semester. If you want a class you can afford to skip now and again, I do recommend.
excellent!!!!!!
Fairly easy class, if you attend lectures filling out the study guide she provides is very easy. Tests follow the study guide and are not too difficult. Final is not comprehensive.
Excellent teacher! Interesting class! If you take down good notes you'll do well!
easy if you go to class. always prepared and knows what she is talking about. study guide and lecture style guarentees an A. starts and ends each class telling you what you need to know for the test. Short of making the tests open note or take home tests there is nothing more she could have done to make the class easier. Simply fantastic.
you don't have to attend class at all, just read the chapters and do the study guides she emails you and it an assured a
This is the most boring class of my entire life. It's very easy for those of you looking for a boost on your GPA, but attending class is toture. There's always atleast 15 people sleeping in the class (I count because that's how bored I am), and after almost 2 hrs of lecture time, we have only learned 3 new things. She feels the need to repeat.
this class is easy. you don't have to go to the class. if you do you will have a nice nap because she just rambles on and on.
One thing to keep in mind, class is not mandatory, but if you don't attend and take notes you will be LOST. The first test is cake, but the second test is the hardest. Make sure you ATTEND CLASS and TAKE HER NOTES, because they are the only ones that matter. The study guide is to general and the slides are to much.GO TO CLASS and its an EASY A!!
This class was extremely boring. Her notes are all over the place and her hand writing is awful so I gave up trying to take notes. Everything you need for the exams is in the study guides and you can find all the answers in the book. I rarely went to her class and still got an A, just memorize the study guides
This class is horrible. Most boring class I have every taken. She doesnt realize shes teaching students who are trying to learn. Talks to you like you know everything. HAND WRITING IS AWFUL. NOTES ARE AWFUL! Tests are so long and so hard.
Such a boring class. Do not even bother going because there is no way you can last a whole class. Her voice can put you right to sleep. Test 3 was the hardest. The test's are very wordy and difficult to comprehend. GOOD LUCK.
Cool, laid back teacher. Very easy class and you don't have to go everyday. I would recommend this teacher for an easy A.
Bottom line, if you didnt do well in this joke of a class then you either are a horrible(and I mean horrible) test taker or you didn't show up for an exam(s). I attended 0 lectures and studied for 2-3 hours before each exam and got an easy A!
I went to class all the time, which I found to be a mistake....but I was an ambitious first semester freshman, what did I know? Overall, test was easy, handwriting was def bad though and its obviously not the most interesting content to teach. I always recommend this class to my friends.
She taught by study guides that she prepared during class mostly everything through her lectures were on the test. Class was very interesting. I would recommend to a friend.
Maria is an easy teacher but her lectures are absolutely intolerable if you have the slightest Christian or conservative tendencies. She gives 5 or 6 extra questions on every test but the tests can be tricky if you don't know the big bad anthropological terms. My advice, read the articles twice and fill out the study notes she gives you. I got a B.
She is a great prof. One of the best I have ever had. Though her class is of no interest to me, I recommend taking this course if you need to do so as an elective. If you have any questions, she will help you as much as she can. She makes sure during lectures to explain what is and what is not important for the exams. Follow her study guides!

Probably one of the easiest classes at WVU. Random extra credit attendance days and at least 5 bonus questions per test make everything about the class pretty easy. Dont bother to buy the textbook, but read the online articles before the tests.
She was very very nice. Class material kinda boring but if you go to class you will get an A. No book needed!
Her voice keeps things interesting. Very boring material. Just read articles online and fill out the study guides. Skimming book helps a little. Random bonus days (mainly DVD days).
Easy class. You can do well on every exam by using the study guide she provides and reading the online articles. Attendance is not really needed, but she will give extra credit bonus days once in a while. Lectures are boring, and she speaks to you like a elementary school class....
nice, easy, tells you days she will take attendance, study her study sheet and you will get at least a 90 on all the tests
SUPER easy class! not the most interesting subject, but it is VERY easy to get an A by using the study guides and skimming the articles. Attendance is not mandatory, but she gives bonus attendance points on certain days (which she tells you ahead of time)
Easy Class. Her reviews sheets are extremelt helpful for tests. Easy exams if you study. Recommended.
Super easy class. Study the review sheets for half an hour and youll get an A.
Take this professor if you like getting A's plain and simple!!
She was very helpful and was very clear. gave accurate notes and study guides for every test. Plus gave a lot of extra credit. Would reccomend to anyone
Basically you don't ever need to go to class. Once in a while she has days when you get attendance points, but you don't even need them. I did not have a textbook & received an A. Answers to the tests are in the study guides on ecampus. BUT MAKE SURE YOU READ THE ARTICLES!!! I recommend taking the class.
Great Teacher, very nice lady. Just likes hearing herself talk to much. Overall great class.
super easy!
Easiest class I have ever taken. Best professor ever. Easy A, if you put in a little effort.
Super nice, always enthusiastic about class and subject being discussed. Always helpful, get pay attention to notes and tests will be easy. Wish she taught more classes, great teacher!
Such a nice lady who knows her stuff. Really easy class if you just simply go and take notes although attendance isn't really mandatory. An easy A..I recommend her for sure!
Easiest teacher at the university. If you can't get an A in this class, you need to rethink the whole college thing. Just look over the review sheet before the tests and go to class, you'll do fine.
She is sooo nice. She is very easy to understand but she sounds like a weather lady so she gets boring at times. She puts out study guides online before each exam which help a lot and she also makes her exams with built in extra credit points. Attendance isn't mandatory but she checks attendance almost EVERY DAY. And it's worth extra credit.
AWESOME PROFESSOR. She is very helpful and wants her students to succeed. She gives a lot of extra bonus which helps tremendously. She seems very passionate about her field and it comes across in her lectures. Definitely a class you should take at WVU.
Repeats all important parts several times when talking, usually does review of test material the class before test days.
Beyond easy. Once you get the required amount of attendance days (only a couple weeks) you never have to go back. She was fun when you did go, though. Don't buy the textbook, I never used it.
This class is so easy with her. She literally spells everything out for you. She only takes attendance on the movie days, so make sure you go, sign your name, then you can leave. The class isn't very interesting in my opinion, but if you read the book before the test, you'll pass. A lot of her questions are from the end of the chapters.
The material is a little boring, but there's a lot of bonus and the test questions are pretty straight-forward.
Super easy class. She uses clicker points as the final exam score, so you'll need to show up enough to get those, but she gives way more than you would actually need. The class is kind of boring but she's really nice. Save yourself the trouble and don't buy the book.
Realllly boring class. But you have to go to class to get clicker points for attendance. Didn't touch my book. She puts the slides online and before tests she gives out review notes that basically give you the test. Just look over the notes and you'll get an A in that class. Very easy.
Incredibly easy. Go to class to get the attendance points, they'll end up amounting to bonus points. Just look over the study guide before the exam and you'll get an A.
Easiest class I have ever taken at WVU! Go to class to get the clicker points because at the end of the semester they are also bonus points! For the test just study the review notes she gives you and it will be an easy A!
Professor Altemara spends the majority of the lecture talking to us as if we were 5 years old. I think it's unfortunate that this class has gotten the reputation of being an "Easy A", since it attracts so many unmotivated students and lowers the quality of the course. Stop catering to the underachievers, it's not a daycare facility!
Extremely easy class. Go for the clicker points and look over the study guide before the tests. Don't bother buying the book. Really nice lady, just super easy class
Great
What a boring class. It's my fault I didn't look up what this class was really about, but she teaches a lot about evolution. If your into that, you'll love this class but I dreaded each class. Don't need the book. Do the clicker questions and you'll probably get an A.
BEST PROFESSOR AT WVU!!! I loved her so so much! She makes class interesting and gives review notes before the test. As long as you study the review notes and get your clicker points the class will be a breeze! Sooo much extra credit too. TAKE HER!
Maria is a great professor. She reallyyyyy knows her stuff and the stuff she talks about is pretty boring but she does make it interesting (sometimes). The class is def not an 'easy' A but if you study and attend class for clicker points you will definetely get an A. She's probably the best 105 teacher at WVU. Always willing to help. Recommended!!!
Awesome professor but boring class! Attend the lecture and you will be fine! Lots of bonus points and clicker points!
Altemara's lectures are SO boring. But if you just go to class and do the clicker points and study the study guide, the tests are SO easy! No way you can fail if you actually put effort into your work. Take her if you have to take 105. Easy GEC filler!
Amazingly easy class. Kinda boring at times, interesting at others. Literally read over the slidesstudy guide right before the exam and got over 100 in the class. For upperclassmen, be warned, there are a TON of freshies in the class, so she has to spell everything out for them. DON'T BUY THE BOOK, never even opened it
Most boring class on the planet (especially for a senior like me), but if you need to fill a GEC just take this. It's impossible to fail, I really feel like you have to actively TRY to fail. I have over a 100 average for the semester. Just show up, get clicker points, study right before the exam and you'll get an A. Definitely a really easy A.
Maria's lectures are BORING. The class is based entirely on five tests and clicker points (for attendance). You will have a hard time passing if you don't attend class. The online tests are super easy and it seems like it's nearly impossible not to get an A with the easy points and all of the bonus she offers.
LOVED THIS WOMAN!!! Such an easy class. Shes really nice.
nice teacher and there to help but it's the most boring lecture i've ever had to sit through, extremely unclear power points that are completely unorganized, also doesn't round grades up which is ridiculously frustrating
Prof. Altemara's lectures can be really boring and long at times, but she seems like a genuinely nice person. This class is super easy, just study the study guide she gives before tests and pay somewhat attention to the videos she plays in class. Definitely an easy A for a GEC.
Lectures are boring I have to say. But, this class is an easy A. She provides powerpoints, explains well, and gives a study guide. On top of that she gives a ton of bonus points. Go to class. Clicker questions help. You don't have to get A's on the tests to pass the class.
She is the goddess of the anthro dept. I would would marry her just so she could do a lecture when i am trying to fall asleep. 1010 would love and respect her for the rest of my life.
Easy A all the way. Just show up and be half conscious, plus clicker questions are worth a test I'm and of themselves. Before exams, there are some lengthy articles to read but nothing impossible. I recommend taking for whatever GEC it covers because it's a guaranteed A.
This class was probably one of the easiest classes I have taken. Her tests are easy and will ALWAYS have bonus questions at the end. You do need to buy the book because she tests you on articles within the chapters. Go to class for clicker points, too. All in all, the class itself was easy and she tries to help with grades.
The lectures are just amazing. She draws you in and is honestly entertaining. I look forward to going to the class. The test are easy as long as you pay attention and go over the slides. She will emphasizes what you need to know. She is more focused on students learning rather than being tough. Go to class and you will pass easily.
Easy A. tons of clicker questions. You have to study for exams
She makes the class way harder than it should be.
This class was very easy and Altemara was extremely helpful. She was always very excited about the topic which made the long lectures less painful. She offers study sessions, study guides, extra credit, & extra clicker points so it's kind of impossible not to pass.
Professor Altemara is fantastic, simply put. I found this class to be very interesting and I learned a lot. This class is an easy A but more importantly, she structures this class where you can learn and not worry about your grade. She gives a ton of extra credit. Great GEC to take.
I took Altemara for sociology 105 (anthropology) and I didn't enjoy the lectures just because I don't find the material of much interest to me. She is very passionate at what she does and very friendly! She will gladly help you out. As long as you attend class for clicker points, do the homework, and briefly study you'll get an Easy A!
Personally I think she is the most annoying human on earth, i can't sit through her lectures. The test are scattered some are extremely easy you don't even have to study and others are super difficult based entirely off a movie you'll watch in class. don't take unless you have too brought my GPA Down.
Great GEC class. She is very passionate about the topic making the boring subject interesting. You have to go to class to get the powerpoint notes and she sends out review study guides of sorts before each exam. Go to class and listen, and read the reviews before the exams and you will get an A :) also read the articles in the textbook
She structures her class a little differently every semester, but she knows the information very well and has been teaching anthropology for a long time. She gives a lot of extra credit and the tests are extremely easy if you just use her review guides and read the textbook articles. No clicker points, slides not posted.
I got a B in SOCA 105 because I missed clicker points and I missed a few assignments. To study for the exams, all you have to really do is read the power points. Hands down easiest class I've taken.
Altemara is a very nice lady who really enjoys teaching anthropology; she knows a lot of info. Although she is very intelligent, lectures are VERY LONG and boring, some days it is very hard to sit through class. Wouldn't recommend this class unless required. She posts review sheets before tests which are very helpful, wants students to pass.
She changed up her class from recent years. No more clicker points! Slides are not posted. Study guide is given and very helpful for the tests but you also MUST read articles in the textbook. Does give some extra credit on connect but requires a lot of reading. Tons of tests so there is room to do poorly on some and still get a decent grade.
She changed it up for the spring 2016 semester. No grades on homework or attendance. She doesn't post slides either so attendance is a must. Grade is purely on exams so little room for error if you want an A. She does give extra credit and do it!!! Helps the grade out so much. Always do the review sheets she posts before each test.
Very clear. Watch video clips for exams. Read posted articles for exams. Easy class. Will use iclickers.
Mrs. Altemara's anthropology class is probably the easiest class I've ever taken. I got a 104% in here. It's not very interesting because it's such basic information, but if you need an easy A this is the one for you. She's not the most helpful teacher. Just make sure you buy the online book so you can do the extra credit.
She was very annoying. Lectures put me asleep.
She is really easy going. The class is extremely simple. She goes through slides, but most of it you don't need to write down. Skimming through the book helps, but you really only need to read the "articles" found in the chapters: always on the exams! She always gives a study guide. Know your definitions.
Easy A
She's super knowledge about anthropology, but lectures are SO boring, they're almost impossible to sit through. She doesn't post the lecture slides so you have to attend class. Grades are based on 4 exams, nothing else. They're pretty easy and she posts study guides, but the lectures are literally so boring that the easy A isn't really worth it.
Make sure to go to lecture to get notes for exam. Lectures are boring because she never takes breaks to let you process information. Offers a couple extra credit opportunities. Class is not hard, just make sure to stay up to date on class notes. Easy A, but again, very boring.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! She's very passionate about what she teaches so in turn it makes you more interested in the material. Tests were super easy as long as you went to every class and took notes. She gives a lot of EC. Super easy A and interesting. People say she's boring but as long as you pay attention, the material becomes interesting.
Maria Altemara is a very knowledgeable professor that is genuinely interested in her field. Around 35 extra credit points/opportunities were given out of an 800 point class. Only homework was the optional, bonus, brief article readings. If you know the provided study guides inside and out you'll get A's on everything but must attend to get info.
One of the easiest class so far. I only need to come to class to take note. She will give you the study guide which is exactly the test before each test to study. Make sure to read the article in the book. This is an really easy GEF class and she is very nice and interesting teacher. A Lot of bonus assignment. Total grade is only on 6 mc test.
She was alright. Really class didn't go half the time still got a A+. Good amount of extra credit. She doesn't answer any type of emails which I didn't like about her
Doesnt count attendance, but does not put the notes on ecampus so if you dont go you dont know which parts of the chapter to read. The articles and videos are a must for the exams, and she gives 5-8 extra credit points every exam. her lectures are boring af but she really likes what shes teaching and you can tell
Non-mandatory easy class. However, since literally everything in this course sounds the same, don't study last minute. All the exam questions sound like the same thing being asked over and over again. Can get confusing, so just understand the different definitions.
Tons of extra credit. In order to get an A (or even a B) you need to come to class and take notes. She seems excited and knowledgeable about what she's teaching, but lectures are often very boring. You don't need to read the textbook at all (just study lecture notes), but the only way to get extra credit is to buy the online textbook. Easy class.
The class is so boring you will find yourself drifting off constantly. She knows and loves the subject but the way the class is taught is just so irritating. It should be an easy class but the questions on the tests are mostly worded alike attempting to confuse you on which topic or theory the question is asking about. DO NOT RECOMMEND
The class is pretty boring, but you can tell she's passionate about what she does, so it's not that bad. As long as you either read the chapters and take good notes, or show up and take the notes she gives, you'll pass the class. She offers lots of extra credit; only graded on tests though, so look over your notes / study some and you'll be fine.
This class was super boring, and the lectures drug on forever. Most of the movies shown in class can be found on YouTube. She gives good notes. Read the articles online and in the book. Would have gave me an A in the class if I put in more effort.I put the class is mandatory, just because you need the notes.
Awesome Lady! very passonite about the subject. I worked my butt off in that class and ended with a C. If it were not for extra credit I probably would have had a D. In order to do well you really need to read everything she gives and tells you to read. At first I thought if I took good notes and Paid attention in lecture I would do well. WRONG
Great professor! Took a class over the summer. Best anthropology professor in this school! Very passionate about her material and also provides good feedback to questions. I don't usually read but taking notes and reading a bit to make connections helps!
