Here tests are very hard and she doesn't allow graphing calculators
tests are very hard!!! but she will try to help if you ask. but its intimidating
Very Hard Tests, Was not at some office hours
her tests are way too hard.
very nice and understanding, tests are a little hard though
She doesn't teach well enough to have such difficult tests
she is very unclear....
I went to her office for help. and she tolder another student that was there to help me instead. Enough said.
Don't take her! If you value your intelligence, don't take her at all.
HELLA HARD PROFESSOR. SHE'S ALSO HEAD OF MATH DEPARTMENT. HARD TESTS BUT LECTURES ARE NO GOOD. DONT RECOMMEND
hard tests but has a pretty fair grading system. i got a b :)
If you guys take good notes and did ALL the hw she assigns, you'll get a solid A. Don't get me wrong, she is a tough instructor though.
she is very difficult, but not as bad as many other math teachers...
im takin her riote now and shes hecka hard...grade only depends on quizzes and tests. drop while u still can...or at least change professor.
very hard exams, you can't use your calculators, notes, if you want to struggle then take her otherwise take someone else.
i agree she is hard and goes pretty fast. her exams are tough, but her quizzes weren't so bad if you knew the stuff. do all your hw and sit in the front. she's not THAT unhelpful. overall shes not a bad teacher. but if u can take someone else, u should
her tests are very hard but is very approachable and will always be there to help you. but you as a student have to really put in the effort to.
You can study 5 hours for every class hour and still not get a natural A on her tests. She is very mean!
If you think she's bad.. dont take finkelstein for physics. shes really not that bad
She is very hard. Doesn't help at all. Make fun if you ask ques. Exams are hard. Unrealistic prof. Should not be teaching at a Univ.
THE WORST PROFESSOR KNOWN TO MAN. Should have been fired a long time ago. Is never on time for office hours, sloppy lecture notes, poor explainations. Never gives homework back. Doesn't keep track of grades very well. AVOID>
Not helpful at all. Tests are very hard. Doesn't contribute much in the lectures. Don't take this course with her if you are not self-learner. Even so, be prepared for a lot of unnecessary graphing without calculator in the exams.
If you love Calc 3, take this teacher, because you will probably end up taking it again. This teacher is horrible, especially if you lack discipline as a student. She does not collect ANY homework. She dosn't care if people understand what she teaches.
unclear, unorganized lectures, never return homework or quizzes on time, and poor explaination.
Study yer #@% off, do the hw, bomb all the exams (they are designed to be impossible to break you down), PASS ALL OF THE QUIZZES!!!!, and you will do fine. P.S. don't ask q's
I went to her office hours to ask for help. When i got there she told the student who was there before me to help me. and she went off and did her own business. What a teacher huh...
She is a smart lady. Her tests and quizes are very fair. Her office is a little bit sloppy, but she knows the material very well and explains well and to the point. I think she is a good teacher.
Im only giving her 1's because there are no 0's. The worst teacher ever, and I've had finkelstein. If you want to learn math do not take her. If your thinking about office hours, you must want to get NO help and be humiliated from what you don't know.

i failed, damn it....
Did not take time on the subject nor making sure the class understood. Bad teaching skills. Went to her office hours, but she didnt take the time to explain anything, just recommended that I get a tutor. Was frustrated mid-semester, and dropped out of class... got a WU! Take another instructor!
This teacher is horrible. Her tests and quizzes are nothing like the homework or what you learn in class. She is of no help and tells you you have a chance of passing then you find out you failed. What a b****! DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!!
This teacher is ridiculous. I heard she is the head of the mathematics department and she is the worst teacher i have ever had in my entire life.
she is mean and look down on me at the beginning of semester...but,at last,my A kept her mouth shut. Geico!!
Avoid like the plague. The only way people passed is through "work" points that she GAVE to students she liked. Time Waster would be a more appropriate title than teacher.
Just as stupid as Valdez both are a waste of time. They only give slack to those they like and punish those who choose not too humor them.
If you are the kind of student who sits and never says anything (like most students) you won't get much out of Dr Cayco. She definitely has favorites, so get aggressive. If she thinks you are worth her time, she is extremely helpful and a great teacher.

She is awful. The worst math teacher i ever had. She assigns homework and works out problems in class but the test aren't anything like it. She only passes those she likes, you might think u have a chance of passing, b/c that is what she tells u then u find out on your report card that u failed. AARRRGGH WORST TEACHER EVER!!!
Worst Math professor ever. If her class is the only open section there is a reason. I would recommend putting off a class until the next semester before wasting your time with her. 1/4 of her class showed up to the final when I took her. Terrible teacher.
Seems like a nice professor at first, but then you take your first test and then everything goes downhill from there. If you must take her (in my case, because no one else was available), you must be EXTREMELY talented at self-learning. She teaches the material, but the tests are NOTHING like homework/lectures.
She seemed grumpy to me before i took her class, but once I took her class, she was actually a nice lady. If you ask questions, she'll stop and help you out. Her tests are conceptual, and she doesn't give very hard questions, so its pretty easy if you study. Also, you dont have to memorize useless trig integrals and diff, so I do recommend her.
If you are upper-division math major, you should take Math 203 and know her personally. She will give you lots of insider information and useful advices for your future career. Non-majors and lower-division students can't appreciate her enough.
Cayco is pretty good. Her tests are okay, if you do ur homework reguarly and actually understand it, then u'll do fine on the tests. She drops one of the quizzes out of 5. She is pretty slow at grading tests/quizzes but overall a good professor. Just work hard, and do the homework daily. I got an A in the class.
She is a very intelligent person and she is fast at calculating but dont take her if you are not good in math. She teaches at a very fast pace. Sometimes she gets complicated but if you can take someone else.
DO NOT TAKE HER!! YOUR GOING THE WRONG WAY!! IF POSSIBLE TAKE THE CLASS WITH SOMEONE ELSE!!! IF NOT THEN WAIT A SEMESTER, AND TAKE WITH SOMEONE ELSE.
Anything glossed over during lecture was covered in the homework assigned. She is available for questions, so ask them. Homework and tests came back a little slow.
Kind of unclear while lecturing, but very helpful when answering questions. DO ask questions; people sat there blank-faced, she would say, "Come on, ask questions..." and they just sat there and complained "she doesn't make sense." Paper and test grading was very slow! Do your homework, ask questions, understand the material, and you'll do fine.
She teaches with the assumption that you already know the material. Went to office hours and had to wait for her to finish her phone conversation with daughter. When "helping" me I told her I was stuck on part of a problem and didn't know what to do next, she simply replied "what do you think you should do"...
So I took her the summer. It's a 4 month course condensed to 4 weeks. Calc II, hardest of the series. She gave quizzes often, the tests were hard. Basically, read the book thoroughly, use every resource you can. Really get the material and you'll be fine. If it wasn't for that diverge/converge crap I would've had an A.
Extremely knowledgeable and fast. Read book before she presents in class or she will fly right by you. Relaxed & friendly atmosphere. All homework online with immediate feedback. EXTREMELY SLOW with grading of exams (3+ weeks). Curves generously on exams. Recommend if you have lots of PATIENCE to wait for grades.
Make sure you do all of the homework. It counts for a huge percentage of the grade. Midterms were extremely hard. Final is a bit easier, but still hard. I did so well on the final, yet she failed me.
Prof Cayco is nice, but she really does not seem interested in teaching. Took a midterm in march and just got them back today,8 wks later! She only returned a couple of hws so we are guessing our grades all semester. She expects students to try hard but she can't come to class on time, normally being 10 minutes late. Is rarely prepared to lecture
"Professor" Cayco is absolutely useless. Even after the semester was over, I still had no idea what the class was even about. She never had an actual lecture prepared, she'd just write proofs straight from the book onto the board without telling us what it was she was proving. An absolutely lazy and irresponsible teacher.
Avoid like the plauge. Worst instuctor I've ever had. She didn't grade our work through the term so we could not improve -something good math teachers do. She was always willing to cut class short if it was suggested. Athough this was an applied class she could only conceputialize it as a theoretical course. I won't take her again. - I hope.
Personally, she had a laid back/fun vibe about her but teaching wise she was not good because this attitude carried in all aspects. There was always debate about which assignments were due when, which to collect, when exams were. Lectures were not challenging enough, she spent too much time on problem solving when the material itself is difficult.
Cayco is not helpful and stands in the way of while writing her notes. Plan on learning from the book only. She is only nice if your doing well in the class.
AVOID, ALWAYS LATE TO CLASS SO SHE MAKES IT UP BY RUSHING THROUGH THE MATERIAL AND WRITING SUPER FAST, TEST ARE SUPER HARD SUPER HARD, TAKES 3 WEEKS TO RETURN TEST, AND FINAL HAS 20 SOMETHING QUESTION...
Worst teacher ever!!! Avoid her, DO NOT take any of her classes unless you want to have a hard time by learning by yourself. She is always late to class, and her class is boring and hard. she is the Worst Math teacher I ever had.
Time for the truth guys, she knows what she is talking about in class. She talks fast and go through materials fast. She is helpful only if you ask for help. She assigns hw but not mandatory, but she drops one low grade out from all your test if you have higher percentage on homework. Work Hard, don't complain.
Does not teach well, at all. people would ask questions and she would say we were wasting her time. does not answer questions or re-grade tests. Very rude and overall not conducive to learning. you are better off waiting a semester to take this class than taking it with her.
she didn't explain topics well at all and it felt like you were bothering her when you had questions.
this professor I can say is the most useless at SJSU. LISTEN TO ME, PLEASE DON'T TAKE HER CLASS, Exam1 on Mar9 and today is May1, still have not get our grade, we asked her when can we get our exam back, she said I will try to post the grade this week every time we ask her. 7:30 am class, and she dares to be late to the class?
This is by far one of the worst profs I've had. She does everything last minute, showed up 45 mins late to our last class, and she got mad when someone asked about a curve. Her teaching style is writing the textbook on the board without further explanation or going so fast and writing so tiny you can't tell what she's doing. avoid for sanity
Late to class 15-20 min, end class early 10-15 min every time (our class is 1hr15 min btw). Syllabus contains no exam dates. Never host office hours. Return first graded assignment 1 week before final (I still haven't got my grade for midterm1 for some reason and today is the day before final). Heard from classmate exam score is 10s-20s out of 100.
The other comment about Cayco is absolutely correct. Most of us (all?) in this class is Math department graduating seniors. Our whole class exam score hovers around 20-30ish out of 100. She is adamant about not giving any curve. Almost all of us are not graduating on time thanks to her. Many students wrote complaint about her to the department.
Do NOT take this prof. Most (if not all) are failing her class due to her impossible tests, yet she refuses to curve, and got mad when asked if she would. Her "teaching" is just her writing what's in the book without explaining the concept. She doesn't realize she's the problem despite so many failing. This class was a waste of time and effort.
Do not take her class
Avoid at all cost. Horrible professor at SJSU.
Worst professor at SJSU.
None of my friends passed this course ;( She is not good at teaching and is even worse when answering questions from students. She takes all criticisms as personal. Makes many mistakes when grading, including on midterms; she gave one of the midterms less than a week before the FINAL. This woman's plot armor is her tenure. Prepare to suffer.
She seems open to questions but her teaching style is a little fast paced for most. Make sure to study at least 3 hours per week for this class so that you do not fall behind on exams since there is always 1-2 questions that are weird on her exams and you will have to apply various concepts from the chapter to the problem.
One of the worst professor at San Jose State University, comes to class unprepared and often even 10-15 mins late. Never offers office hours to students when you stay after class to ask for questions she is quick to leave like her job isn't to teach students. She even proceeds to start off the course one week late resulting in students to catch up
In the running for worst professor in all of California.
It sort of felt like you had to already know what you were talking about going into the class, because all of the lectures were basically just practice problems, and the only things we were given in class were tests and homework. Not really much to learn here but it would be a breeze if you were only here for credits and already knew everything
Prof. Cayco just doesn't care about the class. She shows up late, the Canvas is absolutely sloppy and unorganized, and she is SUCH a slow grader. For reference, I got the results of the second round of midterms back before I got Prof. Cayco's first (midterm). She's a very kind lady, but please take someone else, Calc 3 is hard enough as is.
Cayco is a professor who takes coursework very seriously. She may give lower grades than expected on the tests, but if you're taking calc 3, the common final should balance things out, if you study well for it. So with this professor, your risk of failing may be a bit higher than others, but it could work out if she likes you. Luckily, I passed it!
Her exams are difficult for no reason and her instructions are unclear to the max. She changes her words up and we suffer in the end. She never said attendance is mandatory but ended up assigning in class activities, graded for correctness without letting the class know on canvas(wasn't on the syllabus either). She's not fit to be a math professor.
Do not listen to what others say. Dr. Cayco is an amazing teacher with many years of experience! The classes are not hard if you put in the time and effort. She is a very nice lady, but she speaks quietly so be sure to sit near the front. She is great at answering questions. I had to drop the class due to personal circumstances but would recommend!
Do not trust any rating over one. Lectures entirely pointless, she arrives 10-20 minutes late, ends class 5-10 minutes early, does not attend exams. She is hard to understand, her notes are completely incoherent and full of mistakes, skips steps, and lacks crucial explanation. Exams are incredibly difficult and not graded. Does not answer questions
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS. She's the most inconsiderate professor you will come across; she keeps rescheduling the midterms and never informs you of the date.
I don't have any of her classes (fortunately) but she visited one of the math classes to assess the professor's lecture for some reason. I have never seen such a miserable and balding old lady until that day. Ate loudly and disrespectfully in the back of the class during said assessment. She is the epitome and embodiment of The Grinch. God save us.
Let me open with saying that I've got an A/A+ in the entire Calc series and objectively excelled in math up until this point. Her lectures are entirely pointless, Exams are 90% of your grade with hw as the other 10%. Exam expectations are disgustingly disproportionate to her teaching. There is 1.5 weeks left in the sem and no exams are graded.
Do anything BUT take her. I could sit here and insult her but I am trying to save you time and money. Please do not take a class with her if you want to graduate on time. Math department won't help you, don't put yourself at her mercy. Read older reviews, this is not new for her, it is a pattern that has been going on for decades.
It is ONE DAY before the final and we still don't have grades for either midterm. The first midterm was taken in early October with the second in mid-November. More than enough time to grade. The only grade we have is the auto-graded homework worth 10%. None of us know how we're doing or how to study, which has been really stressful.
Bad bad bad bad i already signed up for diff eq at a community college next semester lectures are so pointless i stopped going and i have no idea what my grade is but i already paid the 200 dollars for the class at cc so i hope i fail now but NO CAYCO DO NOT TAKE CAYCO STOP AND REVALUATE
She is the worst professor I've had. Exams are 90% of the grade, but she never posted the grades. TAs claimed that grades were ready before finals tho. Her lecturing is awful, she's defensive and unhelpful when you ask questions, and never gives transparency regarding grades. It's shocking how she still has a job teaching. Don't see for yourself.
Have already taken the final and there are no grades for Midterm 1 or 2. My grade could be anywhere from an A to an F. If you need 33A and she's the only option, fill your semester with GEs and classes without the 33A prereq. Please, for your own sanity, postpone. It's absolutely worth it. You'll likely have to retake, even if you're good at math.
