A nice woman, she was pretty straightforward with her class. Nothing too difficult. Tests were under 50 questions and fairly simple. Have to do a simple research paper or make a powerpoint presentation for a project at the end of the semester, and the final was noncumulative. I wouldn't mind taking her again at all.
I hate science classes and this class has turned out to be no so bad. The book is really easy to read compared to the long boring pages. She takes roll and gives extra credit for 100% attendance ...she also gives tons of extra credit to back up anything that you miss.
Wow! What a way to lose interest in a subject. Take this teacher and you will fall to sleep. She is nice, but should be teaching in high school. I'm not sure that even she knows her stuff. Avoid
She is such a nice teacher and her class is not boring I do not know why the person wrote such a negative comment. SHe is a great teacher who is truly helpful and understanding!
Not a bad class at all! Straightforward and to the point, very easygoing and mellow. Her emphasis was on latino and mexican indigenous cultural anthropology, that being her background. Tests were rather easy, and lots and lots of videos! No real amount of hw, only one cultural analysis report or powerpoint due at end of semester.
She is so easygoing and fun! The tests are very clear and she tells you what to study before the day of the test. No homework really. LOTS of videos, love it, and gives up to 50 points extra credit. Take this class if you really want to boost your gpa.
She is a very spunky teacher that has a lot of personality. She does have a lot of her own opinions but is very open minded to others. The class is easy, because she teaches the material in a clear manner and gives a extra credit to make sure for a great grade.
I loved her. She was interesting, smart, and very easy to understand. Homework was easy, there was a ton of extra credit. There was one research paper but it was no big deal. Tests are average just make sure to read the book. you watch a lot of interesting movies also, I thought she was great!
Extremely Easy
She is the best. Extremly helpful, easy going, and funny. Enroll in her class and trust me you wouldn't regret it. Not only that, her quizes, exams are easy and you just have to submit a powerpoint/report at the end of the semester.
She's very nice and helpful. This calss is unbelievably easy; I never studied for any of the tests and I still got an "A" on all of them. Take this class; it'll give you time to finish up your homework from your harder classes.
She is helpful and easy. ALWAYS puts her opinion on ALL subjects. Although she is somewhat understanding, she likes to call people who don't agree with them ignorant. Not students, people on t.v. or in the science
She is awesome, very helpful, and a really nice person. I learned a lot from this class. I recommend her to everyone!!!!
wow amazing techer! i thought it was going to be boring but no is not she makes it intresting, fun and teaches really good. The test are not hard study and you will get an A! i recommend you take her :)
She is a great Prof!! Not to mention if you need a GPA booster this is the class for you. Lots of points possible so an A is very likely. Lots of chances for extra credit, and easy tests that you don't even need the book to study from (just the lectures). Take Monreal and you'll have a positive learning experience while getting a good grade! :)
She is such a nice teacher, always smiling. The tests are very easy. Take her class if you wanna get A.
good teacher genuine care for the students she is very nice and worked with me any time i had a schedule conflict.
Monreal is a nice lady. Lectures are some what boring, but overall a good class. Great videos and fun exercises. Study for the tests and you'll do well. Great oppurtunity for extra credit. I recommend this class and Monreal!
She is a very nice professor. Very helpful. Easy tests just study the lectures. Do extra credit it pays off in the end.
She's an amazing professor. Eventhough Anthropology is not my field of interest she opened up my mind to a completeley different way of thinking. She's very helpful and willing to work with you until you get the subject. I recommend any of her classes. Makes class fun, dynamic, balances videos, power point and lecture. Show up and you'll pass!
Excellent teacher.Knowleadgable, fair, fun, engaging, helpful, smart, and getting better! Highly recommendable.
Very nice and easy teacher. Tests are easy if you prepare well. Very little homework. Projects are simple. Easiest teacher I've had so far
i have actually taken a few classes from her, she is a very nice woman, and has helped me a great deal in my studies in general, but, cultural anthro with her is like an exercise in polical correct stupidity, i completely disagree with many of the pc doctrins she is espousing...she is a new teacher so cut her some slack.
Very easy. Take her if you're interested in the subject, but not if you're planning on making it your prime learning experience. She seems to teach the bare minimum requirements for the class, which I like, because then I can understand the basic concepts better.
I would recommend her only because she is really nice and the class is super easy! If you show up and do the work, you'll be fine. Little brain power needed.
Her class is pretty darn easy. you only watch movies, take notes & use the clicker. She is funny sometimes & always jokes about Mexicans. Attendance is mandatory. Her tests are pretty easy that you dont need to read the text, & basically based on her notes which you can find on her website. She allows one page (can be typed) of notes for all tests.
Class is EASY. She's really nice and helpful, and the class isn't so bad. If you get anything less than a B, you should get a beat down.
She is a sweet teacher she loves what she teaches, class is interesting, but her lecture notes are not helpful for the test use your book to help you for test because she tricks you on some questions. She gives out a lot of extra credit and it is easy.
She is very passionate and knowledgeable about all the topics she teaches. She is always available for help outside of class. She is culturally sensitive and one of the smartest and most amazing women I have ever met. You should consider yourself lucky if you get the opportunity to take her for any class.
I don't understand when she teaches, but on the other hand the tests are based on her book. But you need to study very thoroughly with the book if your in Anthro, she is always happy in class, but can get grouchy if you don't show interest in the topic or her class.
she is one of the nicest instructors i ve ever met! I received TONs of help from her. show up every time, u will get at least a B.
Really really nice lady. She loves her subject and makes it interesting. mostly lecture based and not a lot of class discussion, but she strives to make her class environment friendly. Take her if you are taking anth.
Cool Teacher
She is a very helpful teacher. She wants you to learn but in a fun way.
Great professor, and a good friend. Very knowledgable about the subject material, though at times clarity can become an issue. So friendly and kind that it is immpossible to say anything bad about her.
I seriously think Ms. Monreal is an amazing teacher. She makes the subject matter totally exciting, and is more than willing to help you. This class is an easy A, but you do have to put in the effort. Show up everyday, read the book, and do all of the participation points, and you will get an A :) She is awesome! You won't regret taking her.
She is a really nice professor and knows the subject well. She tries to crack jokes every now and then which is kind of funny. Overall, go to class, pay attention, make it a point for her to know your name. you should be able to pull nothing lower than a C.
Very nice teacher. Class is extremely easy if you show up and take notes. You would have to try hard not to pass this class. I would take her again if i had the desire to
Easy class if you pay attention. She doesn't throw any surprises at you. I recommend this teacher, plus she's very cute
she was so disorganized. very unclear. had her favorites in her class.
Do not take her online class. The online class is hard. She doesn't give enough detail and information for you to pass the class. Lots of reading and the test questions are nothing like the material you read. She doesn't send out enough study guide or material. Basically, you have to read the whole book.
she is a very nice teacher and easy as long as you do the reading. she hardly gives any homework there are only two tests plus a final and there are about 6 quzzes but if you at least skim through the chapters youll be okay there is one essay due at the end of the semester but its only 3-5 pages long and its soooo easy take her i recommend her.
She is very nice I would take her again the work is not difficult at all
Mrs. Monreal was probably one of the best teachers i've ever had. If you didn't pass your a horrible student. She really relates to you. I really enjoyed her class!
I don't know how she is in her Regular classes but her online class was horrible!Seriously no joke, her online class was difficult to understand. Her book, (that she helped right I might add) is difficult to understand.I felt that she never taught an online class because she was always behind.Take her regular class not her online class.Trust me!!!
She's so nice, and her class is so easy to get A. Recommend to take her class. You'll love it
She is a very hands on teacher, she is very passionate and upbeat. (or rather caffeinated). What I enjoyed most about her class was the videos she showed. The tests and quizzes are not easy, it really helps to read the book and take copious notes while she is lecturing. But she gives TONS of opportunities for extra credit, and is a very understandi
She is very friendly and not afraid to joke around in class and have fun activities and discussions. Trust me, Science isn?t my strong suit, but I worked hard and got an A.
shes alright, not super easy like everyone makes her sound, you have to read. she lets you have one sheet of notes for test. i got 2 Ds on tests & i think i got a B on the final i averaged Cs on the quizzes, got an A on my presentation, did all the extra credit and got a B in the class...i didnt try at all. but if i did i would have gotten an A!
I really enjoyed her class she's very enthusiastic and makes the topic interesting, I do suggest reading the text for her tests though, I didn't mind because I found it interesting.
I was taking an online class for cultural anthropology. Maria Lenor Monreal was very unresponsive to my needs, and very rude. Everytime I asked a question through email; I feel like I was being attacked. She also sent out a nasty email praising those who already took a online exam, and took a REAL condescending approach to the latter. Horrible Prof
WORST online prof ever! she messes up a lot with her powerpoints and she gives you an attitude when you ask her question...it's like shes sooo busy teaching online classes or something. Her tests are ridiculous like how many characteristics are there...WORST TEACHER EVER!
friendly teacher but not all that easy like people made it seem. read read read. its extremely important as the tests are filled with little details you will need. you also have 5 options for your essay, do the first one as they get harder the longer you wait to do it
I took this prof. for cultural anthropology....she was ok but not very sympathic towards emergencies...not only that but the book that was required for this class started to fall apart quickly...you couldn't turn the page without a page falling out!!! I still have to book if you would (with all the pages)...I will sell it for $70 (used books n/a)
I absolutely loved her class, highly recommended. Not super easy though and reading the text is the only way your going to pass any of her tests.
She was a great professor, in my opinion. She definitely knows her stuff but has a hard time converting it to understandable material. Her tests are nearly impossible to get an A on, but you get to use a sheet of notes so I guess that makes it somewhat fair. If you are really determined for a good grade, I HIGHLY suggest attending her office hours.
I took her Cultural Anthropology class On-line. It was pointless. It was her first time teaching an on-line class and you could tell. She was very unclear on things and too much work. Her quizzes and tests were EXTREMELY hard. It could be because it was an on-line class but i don't know. i wouldn't take it again. If you do take it, make sure you st
I absolutely love Monreal! She is so intelligent in her field and you know she cares about her career. I took her for both physical and cultural anthropology and I did NOT regret it.She is very helpful. Her lectures are straightforward and she lets you use one page of notes on the tests. She's more organized in Physical. Cultural caught me off guard
Shes a little rough aroudn the edges but still a great teacher
Tests are never on anything important, they are on tiny details that have no bearing on your knowledge of anthropology or lack of. Tests are pretty hard because of this. Other than that easy online course.
Online class was easy, at first she does read the discussions and then she just skims. the tests are timed and sometimes they focus on the most insignificant details and since they also consist of 3-5 chapters, they are hard. very helpful, good class organization, interesting subject. no study guides kind of a bummer.
It was an online class so lectures were only powerpoints which then were just summary of the text and nothing else! Quizes and exams were long so read the text well. Be nice with her she'd be nice back. but that's not a guarantee. Take her class if you have time for textbook.
Monreal's ok, she's just really hard. Occassionally, we watch videos, but most of the time it's alot of reading and her tests are HARD. Advice if you'll take her class: GET THE BOOK AFTER THE FIRST DAY, SO YOU KNOW WHICH BOOK TO GET. It is a common error people make and can be a serious problem.
i took the online class, it was pretty straight forward with quizzes and tests and you have to submit written responses to questions. The pwrpoints help, but to to well on the quizzes and tests i suggest you read the book or be familiar with it.
Loved this teacher! This class changed my life and so interesting. Be there on time especially when its a day of the quiz...if you're late you will be asked to wait outside. Remember to do her options the sooner the better because it gets harder if you choose the latter. Read the book and write down video notes. Overall, just pay attention.
I took this teacher for cultures of Latin America. She sweet and very helpful but there's just so much information that I couldn't keep up and ended up dropping the class. Expect to do ALOT of reading.
She is really nice and helpful but very hard. exams require a lot of reading, taking notes, and paying attention to the videos. She let us have a cheat sheet but it only helps if you have the reading material on it. The class is interesting, i loved the subject.
This was my first online course, so I wasn't sure whether the class would be scary or fun. Turns out, that it was pretty good. Her quizzes and tests have VERY specific questions, so reading isn't something you can question in doing. All and all, I learned a lot from this class about an interesting subject, and others should take this aswell.
ONLINE CLASS taken. Straight forward enough. Must do two essays. Respond to other's essays every week. EC available. In order to do well in quizzes/tests you HAVE TO read the book because questions are very SPECIFIC! Other than than, easy enough class.
Great teacher. Shes very passionate about her work which is great. You do have to read the book and take notes during lecture but those notes will come in handy for exams. She lets you use one page of notes for exams. All around she is a great teacher and you will learn a lot more than you expect to. Very interesting subject.
She is super passionate on this subject which makes the class interesting. She knows whats she's talking about. You MUST read the book and pay good attention to her lecture. Gives extra credit which helps too. Tests are a little hard to be honest but if you prepare yourself well enough, you will do good.
Super nice lady. She likes what she does and it's really cute when her voice squeaks. Her summer school class is pretty intense but I got an A.
She is very enthusiastic about her class, and plans many activities to do. Doing homework guarantees you an A in the class and she does offer many extra credit opportunities. She even scheduled a field trip to San Diego for the class! I'd take her class again if I could.
Prof. Monreal is very helpful and encouraging. The summer course covers a lot of detailed material in a short amount of time, but she does a great job explaining it. She offers lots of extra credit and is super nice. A very inspiring person.
Online class was really interesting. You do have to read the textbook and it is fast paced. Interesting films assigned, and quizzes at the end of each section. The questions are very specific so its important to read the text. Overall very good class. I recommend this class to anyone.
This was my first online class and it was challenging, but only because it was online. Once you get the hang of it then you will be on your way to pass the class. I have heard that she is a young teacher and this shows on how understanding she is.
Great instructor, really knows the material. Course covers A LOT of material but if you follow her advice and stay on top of your studying, you should get an A. She is very approachable and will send you in the right direction if you're not understanding things. Great presentations. Like I say, not an easy A, but certainly possible.
I strongly recommend her! She definitely knows her anthropology. I took this as a hybrid and it's obviously very fast paced. However, the way she lectures is fast paced as well, as in her ppt notes are very, very brief and to the point. The book is without a doubt mandatory. She's great though. Very, very nice and approachable.
I have taken a class taught by Leonor on more than one occasion, and I still plan on taking more classes with her. She is just the nicest person you could want out of a teacher. She is really into what she teaches so it's never boring, and she switches lecture up between showing films & a brief (10-15 minute) group discussion to prevent boredom!
She is a friendly and helpful teacher. You won't regret taking her. Uses brief powerpoint lectures while supporting them with thorough explanation and fascinating examples. Fair Grading Scale. I took her summer hybrid(online and face-to-face class and enjoyed my time there.
Maria Cadena is an awesome professor. She took an uncomfortable topic and made it so interesting. I had no interest in Anthropology whatsoever, and now after taking her class, I can't get enough on the subject! I would suggest to anyone that you take her class in lieu of a typical anthropology class. You will learn more than you ever dreamed.
GREAT professor, her lectures are never boring. She tries to keep everyone interested in the topics that we are discussing. The tests are average not to hard but you do have to study somewhat. I recommend taking her!
great teacher, take her classes if you can!
FIrst she's hot. Second she is awesome. Third a real college professor. Class not hard at all although a lot of material covered. DO THE HOMEWORK! Read the Book if you are a real college student you shouldn't have a problem passing this class.
Excellent teacher and the discussion… I could die at how amazing the discussion forums are. She asks such amazing questions that really make you think critically and after living in a bubble for so long (couldn't help it) this class truly opened my eyes in terms of world view and cultural exposure. Expect some deep thinking and difficult questions.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class. It required much of my time. Dedicate to reading the chapters and viewing the videos she assigns. reasonable amount of time to complete the material. Interesting course.
Took her online class & passed it with an A. I'm not keen on online classes but this one was a great one. She's fast on responding and is crystal clear on what she wants from the students. Very great teacher overall and the workload [online] was a bit overwhelming at first but I got the hang of it & it was all good. Stop reading and take her class!
I love Maria she is an amazing teacher! She is passionate about her job and loves her students. She offers a lot of EC and tries to make it as easy as possible to pass. Watch the videos assigned, participate and take notes from her lecture and the book and you're pretty much guaranteed an A. Definitely recommend & planning on taking her again!
Best teacher ever. If you want an easy A, show up, study for the tests and quizes which are not hard at all! Best teacher ever
I took her at Cal State Fullerton. She was extremely understanding and warm hearted. She is very clear in her feedback and what she expects from us. Her class was fairly easy, just make sure you pay attention to her lectures and watch the videos she assigns (they're not boring, don't worry)!
Prof. Cadena is very sweet and you can tell she is very passionate about cultural anthropology. Her classes were always very engaging and she encourages participation so much so that sometimes presentations can go a little longer than planned, leading to it carrying over to the next class. I definitely recommend her for those interested in anthro!
im currently taking this teacher this is our last week in the class. She is SO friendly and replies to you BUT the test are VERY HARD!!! i got F in the first one and the second one im studying my butt of to pass with a C. if u dont like to read 2 hrs a day like me. i dont recommend
There was alot of reading and videos to watch, that's for sure. If you keep up with the coursework, you should come out with atleast a C. You gotta study as well. She took long to grade stuff though. That was my only concern. Overall, the class is passable. The summer course was condensed: 3 tests, 1 paper, 3 peer reviews, and some extra credit.
First online course ever. Wasn't very smooth but wouldn't say it was rough at all. Had to keep reading the syllabus to get to where she was, and she does assign great documentaries to watch.
She is such a great teacher! She is so willing to work with you and her tests are easy. Just attend her hour study sessions and write everything down on a piece of paper and you can use that on the test. A lot of EC too. She's such a great woman and she really loves anthro, she's so cute! :)
She never responded to anyones e-mails towards the end. She just didn't seem to care at all waste of a class to take for online.
Excellent professor gives extra credit , she is is very respectful and caring. Ms. Cadena is ready to teach with her power points and lectures. I'm planning to take her againg.
Professor Cadena is kind and helpful. I enjoyed this class.
Prof. Cadena is seriously such a sweet heart. She is very down to earth. There's a lot of extra credit opportunities & you can pass with an older version of the book to save $. Show up and pay attention to her lectures; she's very clear on what she wants you to know for the exams. Her passion for this subject makes everything so interesting.
I loved Cadena and her class. She was very clear in her powerpoints and what was going to be on the exams. I definitely learned a whole lot of material from her class that I was able to apply in other classes. You can tell she really cares about her students and she takes time to make everything interesting.
Leonor is an awesome teacher! As long as you take notes and read the chapters (highlighted words etc.) you will pass the test. Make sure you participate in discussions, because it becomes a significant part of your grade, which means don't skip class!
I've been in Professor Cadena's class three times, and I've enjoyed myself each time. She is clearly very passionate about her field, and her fun personality livens up lectures. While there isn't a lot of homework, the tests do take questions directly from the reading. Luckily, she allows the use of "cheat sheets" on tests. I highly recommend her!
Professor Cadena is such a wonderful and caring individual. You can definitely tell that she is passionate on the subject. She offers extra credit and even had study sessions with her where she gave you bonus points for going! I'd definitely recommend her to everybody! I don't like science but this class was really interesting and she made it fun:)
Professor Cadena is a great professor for an 8 week course. If you were to post something on the discussion board or email her, she would respond the next day. Class is overall easy, powerpoints helped me and text is required. She also gave a ton of extra credit, so you should pass with a B or A. Documentries were pretty fun and overall cool!
She is so funny! She'll definitely teach you life lessons and make you think about the world around you. It's easy to get an A if you do all of the assignments, and her documentaries are really interesting so it's not anything you wouldn't want to watch.
One of the nicest professors I've ever had. She's so nice and takes the time to break down every one of the concepts so you understand them. Great lectures, easy homework. She's wonderful. I would highly recommend her.
Prof. Cadena is the best! Being in her class brought me global cultural awareness that enabled me to understand customs, marriages, communication, and social stratification on a deeper level. She is extremely encouraging and offers all her students a fair opportunity to succeed in the class. Her open-minded nature makes the class feel like family:)
overall awesome professor is not the best i have had in years. she is very caring about her students and wants them to do well. the class topics and activities are very interesting and humanistic. she gives great advice and the class is a great place to make friends. totally doable for an honors class. recommended 100%
Her study guide has everything for the exam so copy everything onto your cheat sheet. Overall the class was pretty easy but I just didn't like that she didn't really explain the book review and ethnography except for when she would remind us that they were gonna be due. But she was more than happy to clear things up when I asked for help tho
Honestly she is the best professor at FC and has a heart for every student. This class is a life changer for me because of her awesome lectures. She also changed my views on the world just from taking her class. There are homework and quizzes but they're not hard as long as you do them but overall her class was amazing. Take her if you can
Her classes are really easy if you read the material. I took the online class and it would take days for her to respond to emails. On top of that she would posts the tests late and would say that there would be a study guide for the test but there never were. If you can self teach this class if for you!
Really easy class, all the quizzes and a bunch of the test questions are on quizlet. For exams, just skim the chapters and mark the pages with definitions so you can easily flip to them . Watched 5 documentaries, one discussion post and response per. Standard class, below average workload, easy A overall. Offers 15 points extra credit. Take this!
I had her for both ANTH103 and ANTH102 for online classes. I have learned a lot from the two courses although I only took them for GE credits. 103 was a bit easier because I took it in a full semester of 16 wks, and I took 102 over the summer which was 4-5 wks. There were a lot of interesting film discussions that were assigned. Highly recommended.
I took her online for ANTH107 and I learned so much. She is so sweet and was so easy to reach outside of class. She really cared and gave opportunities to make up assignments that were missed and gives extra credit options. You can tell she loves what she does and her assignments are really fun! Discussions are about movies relating to topics!
You will learn a lot in this class and at a face pass so try and pay attention and take notes. She really cares about her students success and is lenient on late work. Do well during the semester and she will exempt you from the final! Very kind and full of knowledge. You will need to participate during class and she gives a lot of extra credit.
It was a pretty easy/average class. Quiz's every week on reading material. Discussion posts on documentaries. I would recommend taking this class 100%. I have no complaints.
I took this class over the summer and it went by soo quickly. One discussion post, quizzes every week, and a research paper. Easy A, just do your work.
So her class was alright, but she has the weirdest grading system. Its super confusing and freaked me out for most of the class. She gives a lot of extra credit though, but the grading system makes it sort of pointless. The class was alright, but its important that you know all the dates so you don't miss a quiz or anything
Very easy Professor. Shes very entertaining when giving her lectures. She always brought food and drinks to our class. Also always used kahoot which is an anonymous quiz that you take on your phone for extra credit. Take her
Basically just self teaching and don't except to get help. Read the whole book, don't ask questions cuz u will not get answers. Well, she couldn't care less about your grade. Not a good choice for people who need GE and people who are not interested in Religion and culture. Best of luck!
Best Prof ever. Really understanding. Quizzes are pretty decent. Easy A. Although Honors did have an extra presentation; not bad though
took anthro 107 online. Very easy. Quiz and discussion almost every week. Discussions usually on interesting documentaries and you apply concepts to your life/society. many extra credit opportunities. Would take again.
This is my 2nd time taking a class of hers (other being her Witchcraft and Religion class) and once again, a class that didn't disappoint. Professor Cadena makes her class easy to understand what is expected of the students. We had 1 large research report due at the end, a quiz per chapter, 3 exams and extra credit was offered! Definitely take!
Took the 8 week class and really enjoyed it. Each week you watch a video (some can be a bit long up to 2 hours) often they are very good documentaries. One quiz on the video and 2 quizzes on the reading each week. Quizzes are not difficult as long as you put in a little work. One large project for the class that was pretty fun.
I'm taking her summer online class easy class just make sure to respond back to ur classmates in the weekly discussion and to respond back to her prompt. Quiz every week not a hard class at all!
Took this class in the summer. It's very interesting especially if you already love the topic of magic, witchcraft and religion. You definitely need the book, super cheap on chegg, free online. READ. Mostly discussion/replies to short films and weekly quizzes. Easy grader, just follow the rubric. Loved this class AND it counts for CSU credit.
Definitely take Professor Cadena for Cultural Anthropology! As an Econ major, I did not expect a class that I was planning taking for credit to be so awesome! As long as you show up for the zoom lectures, do the weekly assignments and video quizzes, and engage in class discussions its easy to get an A. Amazing professor and person. 10/10
I took Prof. Leonors class online during COVID if you take her class on zoom make sure you go because participation is worth a lot of your grade I didn't attend many which is why I got a B. Her quizzes and tests are not too difficult just study on quizlet and you'll be fine. and she also makes you do one group project and one paper
This class was online due to covid and its pretty much just reading and quizzes. One chapter and quiz for each week. Documentary films and quizzes as well. 3 exams and one paper. Overall easy class just make sure you do the reading and take notes. Offers extra credit. Study the quiz questions for the exams because she uses the same questions !!
Took over 30 days to grade one paper (the single assignment she has to grade manually all semester, it was only 3-5 pages max), she gave us the link to the wrong documentary and only informed us the day its quiz was due (no extension), too many other blunders to list! Easy course and documentaries were good. Expect plenty of gaffes.
I took Professor Caden for roughly 4 or 5 courses and she exceeded my expectations as a professor constantly. Not only did I feel heard and seen I felt as though it would be through my understanding of anthropology that I could succeed in multiple aspects of my life. She believes in her students and in turn has them believe in her. Much deserved.
I have taken two of Professor Cadena's courses in the past. Her classes were my first introduction into cultural anthropology and it was very eye-opening. I remember her classes being designed to break down complex concepts along with reading that enhanced your understanding. Furthermore, she is always open to helping students with any questions.
This professor lives and breathes anthropology. Every lecture is exciting and informative, containing topics and assignments that will allow YOU to think for yourself. She is very seasoned, professional, intellectual, and just cool. The content & course material is relevant, controversial, and raw. Warning: Might make you rethink your whole major!
Professor Cadena made this course so enjoyable! It was the first Anthropology class I've ever taken and it definitely won't be my last. Our assignments consisted of a decent amount of reading, writing a 3-5 page paper, taking quizzes on video documentaries, and taking 3 exams. If you do the work and participate, it's an easy A!
Pros: is a really caring professor who is passionate about what she teaches. She always gives good feedback and does whatever she can to get her students to pass. Also gives extra credit. Cons: the worst I can say is that she is a little disorganized but it's not too big of a deal. Some of her quizzes have wrong answers so reach out if you find.
Doctor Cadena is an extraordinary professor. Her PowerPoint lectures are amazing and well prepared. Also, she records her lectures, which I found extremely helpful. You must read and come prepared to class because she will ask questions. Weekly quizzes come from the textbook so expect to read lots! There are lots of extra credit opportunities.
I absolutely loved this professor. She is incredibly understanding about mental health issues and allows extensions on deadlines if asked. Her class is discussion and reading heavy. While I don't like reading, the textbook and lectures made me want to keep learning and her lectures are fantastic! I hope to take one of her courses again!
Prof. Cadena is an amazing educator and person. I took cultural anthropology and she reinforced that this field is what I want to pursue. There is a weekly reading in the textbook and a book review due at the end of the semester, but it's definitely doable, and her grading on papers and projects is very lenient and reasonable. Take her class!!
Professor Cadena has to be one of my favorite professors at FC. She is very light hearted, she cares about teaching you, and she doesn't focus on minuscule details. Just read the textbook, watch the weekly documentaries, and come to class ready to discuss, and you will get an A. It was very easy to enjoy her class, even as a humanities kid!
I asked for more accessibility with her lectures, if she could either put all of what she was saying on the slides/on a separate post or to manually caption her videos (bc automated captions weren't catching what she was saying) and she just told me to read the textbook instead of watching lectures. I haven't learned much in this class.
Professor Cadena was amazing! I took the class online for the summer and everything was very clear. Lots of reading, so be ready but nothing you couldn't handle. Everything was spread out evenly and the discussion were very fun to do. Lectures were a little long but it was a summer course. Documentaries were very interesting and cool to watch!
Took the online class during summer. Read 2 chapters a week, watched 1-2 documentaries a week, weekly discussion posts based on the readings and documentaries, weekly quizzes (not hard if you read and watched documentaries). Overall a good class and I enjoyed the documentaries.
Where do i even start!!! I took her class online and thought it would be easy because I read comments on her from students, that was big mistake!!! She is so unorganized and messy, it really stressed me. Her zoom meetings were so rushed and messy everyone was confused, I was going to drop her class but I couldnt. She was not a big help too.
She is very caring. I loved her lecture a lot and it was my favorite course at Fullerton College. You may read the textbook before the lecture. Participation does matter.
Got perfect scores on all my work, missed 1 assignment and went from A+ to a b, no late work allowed. Be prepared to watch videos 50+ minutes and write about it. A lot of reading in the book and lots of quizzes and exams. Quizzes are based off the book. exams are based on the videos, book, and stuff she never taught. A lot of work.
Absolutely loved this class. There are quizzes for each chapter of the textbook and documentaries. The tests were all multiple choice and study guides were provided. Notes, as well as the textbook, were allowed to be used during tests. Participating in class discussions is mandatory but it is low stress. You can tell she is passionate.
Her lectures were very unorganized and rushed. Her grading was also unorganized. She would assign random homework and tests that she never brought up in her lectures for that week which would affect your grade. Her tests are based on the videos and not on what she teaches. Her study guides have nothing to do with the tests either. Not worth it. RUN
Professor Cadenas class was great. The class met weekly via Zoom and she combines recorded lectures with breakout room activities. Her lectures are relevant to the pandemic and current times and she explains complex subjects well. She has several films which you Lucys take notes on bc theyre on the exam. Great class!
She's one of the most empathetic professors I've ever had. We deal with sensitive and controversial topics but she handles them with much care. The zoom meetings were always fun and we talk about personal experiences and it's really an eye opening class that I don't regret. Be careful on group projects tho, her grading comes in really strict then.
long videos and a good bit of reading
You have to watch a lot of documentaries and some are 3 hours long and take a quiz on them. Weekly chapter readings minimum of 3 chapters a week. Plus the lecture videos. (Don't watch the lecture videos she just repeats what the book says and the test is book based) She grades very hard on DB. She expects it to be a mini essay with quotes.
Professor is nice and helpful, but her tests were not based on her lectures. You have to make your own notes when reading the book, each chapter can be 20 pages long. The exams are worth a lot of points so it can hurt your grade if you don't do well & extra credit doesn't reflect on your grade.
Great class with lots of cool information. If you do the reading you can pass the quizzes and tests no problem. Summer courses move fast so you have to keep up with the work, but Professor Cadena will steer you in the right direction! Would take another course with this professor.
She had a lot of quizzes. And the sad thing was that for all the quizzes-and even the final-she just used Quizlet. It was really sad. She grades super hard and the only extra credit assignment for the ENTIRE class was really time-consuming and only gave you 10 extra credit points.
If you are a shy person, do expect to see that in the grade book as this class is participation heavy. Will dock down lots of points for this and it drops the grade dramatically. Very disorganized.
Not a good professor. She gives homework and you'll barely scrape an A.
Took over the summer. Hard class, lots of quizzes.
Cadena does not have enough time to tend to her classes with adequate care. I took 2 of her anthropology classes this semester, which were thoroughly unenjoyable. She constantly made excuses for her lack of teaching as being too stressed out with her workload. Being the case, I do not think she should be a professor at a community college.
The class was pretty easy, with a reasonably manageable workload. Just read the textbook (It's one hour if you read slow, or use TTS like me) and take the quiz right after, and you'll do fine. The assignments are relatively quick and easy as well.
She has a tough subject to bring forth to a diverse crowd, but manages to show empathy and give hindsight simultaneously. Book heavy, but interesting topics. Loves documentaries, but engaging subjects. Does not penalize you for your thoughts and is genuinely passionate about her subject. Participation matters immensely towards grade. Well versed.
Took this class during the winter intersession and she assigned two books. You have to choose two of three assignments but they are interesting topics. Fair grading and good feedback, she responds to emails right away and works with students. Very interesting topic.
I adore Professor Cadena! She has great experiences to share & she's highly intelligent. Yes, you're going to have to read a lot. She tries to build a connection with each student. If you're in need to talk to someone, she's the right person! It's obvious she's passionate in what she does. An issue I experienced with her is favoritism & nepotism!
Tough class with lots of quizzes, documentaries, and readings. Attend lectures and use unstuck study to prepare - it really helped me get an A despite the professor's strict grading.
Professor Cadena is the best of the best. For those of you who come to college to have your beliefs challenged and perspectives broadened, take her Cultural Anthropology class. There's a lot of reading, but the assignments are pretty easy and genuinely interesting. This was like UC level of teaching. Easily the best class I have ever taken.
Cadena is an excellent professor. She goes in-depth on her topics, and overall, is an excellent lecturer. The only issue is that her grade book is messy and the style of grading is outdated, which prevents a lot of potential points. Also does not make good study guides.
Professor Cadena was amazing! Professor Cadena wants to see all her students succeed. Attend lectures, study before exams and you will do great. Participation is also significant.
I enjoyed taking Professor Cadena's class. I had to take this online, but she laid it out in a very organized way which made my life a lot easier. My favorite part were all the films she assigned us to watch. I learned a lot from those and found them very interesting. There are weekly quizzes on the readings and assignments. I enjoyed this class.
I learned SO much, & with real life applications. Had weekly readings and films (interesting, doesn't feel like homework), 2 presentations to the class (1 individual, 1 group), and 3 easy exams (open-note). Attendance/tardiness will count against participation grade. Participate. I was shy and still received an A. Just put in effort, she sees it.
Not even done with this class but OHHHH GODDDDD this class was so messy. The instructions for EVERY assignment are confusing AS HELLLLLL and there's no rubric whatsoever. The class itself isn't that bad in terms of difficulty but the way it is structured is stressing me OUTTTTT please prof if you're reading this you need to do better
Maybe because I took this in winter term, but it was confusing to keep up. Don't be scared to take the class, especially in the winter. It is manageable. My only advice is for you to become an email warrior and establish that early connection for when you need help, she is more than gracious. If you're confused about an assignment, reach out asap.
Very sweet as long as you get in your work on time! There's a lot of work but I took a 5 week course during the winter intercession so it was a lot of readings, videos, and tests. She's very open to emails and responds relatively quickly.
Super kind and caring professor. One class was lecture and the other was discussion! Be prepared to share your opinions with the class as participation is part of your grade. Be sure to read (its very light easy reading), notes are not necessary at all. All quizzes/tests are online, two presentations, and if eligible you can skip the final.
i loved professor cadena! i took her winter course and really enjoyed it, i loved the documentaries. my only complain was that the instructions were really confusing, but attending office hours helped clarify everything. take her!
Winter 24 & 107HF Summer 25.102 Was messy, instructions weren't clear on work, dates all over the place, even emails/announcements didn't make sense but still ended with an A. 107 was much better, mostly clear and lighter. The readings is a lot, and the discussion may take a while but still manageable. Just email you'll be good. Only 1 EC, Free TB
There are plenty of extra credit opportunities to help you get a good grade things like attendance, short video answers, and more. But you need to be active in class to earn those extra credits. Otherwise, the exams are okay, and you can use your notes.
The professor appeared to be disorganized sometimes, and often off track from the teaching the material.
Such a great and passionate professor. Participation and attendance is key to getting a good grade in the class, and readings are a must! She is a fair grader with plenty of extra credit. However, she can sometimes be a little vague when it comes to assignment requirements and due dates.
