Teacher is dumber than rocks.
Teacher is not dumb, the student above is dumb as rocks....good teacher, she teaches math, explains it VERY well, shes italian and has an accent but is very willing to help. Nothing but nice. I recomend this professor.
very smart teacher, at times hard to understand b/c of her Italian accent but very willing to help any student who comes forward.
She teaches like a nazi. Our class had to be seperated into a seating arrangement (student, empty chair, student structure). I feel like I'm in preschool. Doing this made us miss half our class because all she does is complain about our class. I'm basically wasting my time. If you take her don't waste your time- go to math lab.
This is an easy class as long as you don't have Capursi. Her lack of knowledge of english grammar structure makes subjects like sets (which include STATEMENTS) difficult to comprehend. She is willing to help you, but don't expect patience. My advice is to find another prof. in the same subject, that way you'll avoid extra tutoring later.
Ms. Capursi was easy, always put-together and I considered her grading to be fair. She was a bit flighty, however, and she did not always explain things well. The other students in my class frequently made fun of her and she took no steps towards quieting them so the classroom was noisy and unproductive. Not excactly a great professor.
Ms. Capursi seems incredibly intelligent-she knows all formulas by heart and teaches free of aid; however, she has some difficulty conveying lessons to college students. Her Italian accent, though entertaining, does not inhibit her teaching ability-it is more or less her treating the students as children. Also, some lab instruction conflicts.
Pretty easy teacher if you stay on top of things. The homework is online, her exams are pretty easy (nothing not in the homework is on the exams). Lectures can be a tad boring yet for the most part it's not hard to understand or pay attention. And for the record, her accent isn't that bad at all. She's a smart lady, and helpful during office hours.
Don't take this teacher. She told our class she was dropping the lowest exam grade and replacing it with the final, but then had a change of mind after the add/drop week. Her test I found were nothing like the examples in the book or the examples she did in class. Oh and don't buy the book its on my math lab.
Brilliant mathematician, mediocre teacher. Very unorganized and forgetful. Her class is fun to attend; she has a great sense of humor, and is fairly easy to understand regardless of her accent. Biggest problem would be the difficultly of her tests by comparison to content she assigns for homework/practice problems. Proceed with caution.
This teacher is crazy!! You can't understand a word she says! She scares you with her creepy smile!! She is really hard! I have never hated math more than I did with MARIA CAPURSI!
Maria Capursi is honestly the worst math teacher i have ever come in contact with in my 18 years of LIFE. She's a sweet woman, but she treats the class like children by assigning seats and doesnt explain anything in detail. Good luck understanding her Italian accent, and try your best to avoid this class at ALL COSTS!!!
She is the worst math teacher I have ever had! I do everything I can in that class, I never miss anything, but she's terrible at teaching things and she's hard to understand. I'm good at math, and I was terrible in this class. I am failing right now even though I go to tutoring and everything!!! Don't take her. You'll regret it seriously!
She is a HORRIBLE teacher! everyone says finite is easy but she does not speak clearly and explains things horribly!! She is more concerned with how people act in class that anything, she has stopped class numerous times for people talking and once even for a girl walking out. DO NOT TAKE HER she is not helpful at all!
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. Does not explain things well enough at all, and gets very impatient when you ask her questions. She is very flustered around large class sections. Many I knew failed the exams and just gave up midway through the semester. She is also very forgetful and talks down on people. Do not take this professor.
Most people rating on here are either over critical or ignorant. I'm not doing too well in the class but I take full responsibility. Most of the harder material is not on the test or it is all simplified. She gets angry at her classes because they act like children, not college students. She's only human and it's up to you to do well in this class.
She has a thick Italian accent. She made our class seat one seat a part from each other and she wrote down the names of people going to the bathroom from a class of about 300 students! It felt like 3rd grade all over again. Tests are a nightmare and you will see problems you've never learned before in your life! This woman shows NO mercy! Beware!
terrible teacher, if you have to take her, just make sure you go to the labs because the TA's can actually explain what she is attempting to teach
She is a very sweet lady and has never belittled the class. I had her for calculus which in my opinion she is excellent at. Her italian accent is nothing to worry about. She is not intimidating and if you go to her office hour she will help you if you are patient and wait you turn. If you do your homework, Take the class!
WARNING: She is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. Doesn't explain anything and the problems in the homework and in class are different from what goes on the test. I hate her class so much and she is very difficult to deal with. I went to tutoring about 10 times and it NEVER helped me. Avoid HERRRR
everyone is grading her way too hard. i was never good at math until her class. i felt she explained very well and was always open to help. she gets frustrated when the "college students" act liek 10 year olds. towards the end of class this eyar she gets mad at annoying e-mails. i got an 85 80 65 so far on the exams not bad for hating math...
Do not take this teacher! The book is worthless and so is going to class. You learn by the online assignments and labs. She's nice but very bad at explaining problems. Avoid if possible.
Dr. Capursi is a brilliant mathematician. She is also one of the most helpful professors you could hope to have. She grades VERY fairly, giving partial credit and actually looking at the methods you use to find mistakes. You have to attend her classes to pass (as with any math). You have to show her your trying. She HATES cell phones in class.
It was very hard to understand anything she said because should could barely speak english.
Capursi is a terrible professor. You can't understand anything she says and she treats her students like children. I would not recommend taking her class.
Most people did not like Ms. Capursi, she can be kind of abrasive, but I think this was in response to disrespect from the students. After trying to take this class two times prior, I found her teaching style very helpful for the math retarded like myself. The TA was a major factor in my doing well in the class, but she was a good teacher too.
Terrible teacher, went to every class prior to the first too exams and failed both stopped going to class and read out of the text book instead and got A's on the final two tests, some of the T.A's are complete morons as well especially Qiling Shi avoid her if possible I am a math person and this class was unbearable.
The class acts like children so im not surprised that she treats them like that. She is very good at math but cannot teach it. The homework is very inconsistent to the tests and the lab is useless. I missed out on a lot of points because of being taught the wrong thing by the TA. Take algebra.
Do not take Finite with Capursi. She has 0 respect for students. She will lie everytime about when grades will be up. She will never give a review that will prepare students for a test. She will frustrate you to no end by complaining about e-mails she receives. Bottom line- I am not paying her with my tuition to get such poor service.
Professor Capursi was AWFUL! Don't take her! She does not know how to teach. She does not explain the problems completly. Avoid finite & Capursi, go for Algebra!
This class is easy, but she does tend to get annoyed when people ask stupid question, talk during class, etc. If you're good at math and don't need things explained to you, you'll do well in this class. However, don't take this if you struggle with math, because her accent + low tolerance for questions can make it hard.
The content is easy and she explains it well (her accent is not that bad). Make sure you finish the homework before you take the quizzes & exams because if you practice the math you will ace everything - I did and I'm not a math person at all.
This was the worst class ever! Dr. Capursi is the worst professor I have ever had and you can barely understand what she is saying. The online homework helps but you shouldnt even bother going to class because you don't learn much anyways. The TA's were also retarded, esp Micheal Tildon, we were always correcting him. DO NOT take this class!
Don't waste your time going to lecture. I learned everything from the TA. Capursi made me not want to care, but if you actually stick with it the material isn't that hard, test questions are just pulled out of nowhere to make things harder than they should be. Don't buy the book, just the online access code to course compass.
Danger, Danger, Dr. Capursi can be very nice and really knows her subject but doesn't know how to teach it. Her TA(QS) can't speak english well at all. Subj. is difficult enough. No control of class. Curves, x-tra credit - forget about it. Forget about using this instructor. Teaches as if talking to her peers not students. Run, run, run!
Terrible teacher! Lectures are pretty pointless, thank god for my TA, he explained a weeks worth of classes in 50 minutes. You think you understand the material and then take her insane tests.
She is so crazy. You do not the book unless you like studying from the text book. You can skip her classes and just teach yourself. Her tests are so hard and no matter how hard you study they will always be hard.
Worst teacher EVER!!!! You can not even imagine how awful she is. She can't teach, she doesn't even understand what the students were asking in class. She yells at you for asking a question or for examples. Her tests are impossible. Don't take it unless you want to fail. Everyone I know who took it failed last semester.
Study really hard for the first test so that you don't have to spend the rest of the semester bringing your grade up. I got a 100 on the 4th test and the final and I didn't study that excessively. No need to buy the book if you go to class because she does plenty of practice problems. Accent isn't that difficult to understand. Overall, I liked her.
Capursi's a sweet lady, but a lot of what she says gets lost in translation. I got an A, but the tests were not very fair because she put some hard questions that you dont go over in class on them. Do your online homeworks, very helpful. And seek help if you need it, because the subject matter isnt that hard she just teaches it in a confusing way
Horrible Teacher! Very demeaning to her students. Absolutely no excitement in the subject that she teaches. She teaches it as if it is a burden for her to have to teach so many students. Exams include things that you never went over in class. Very few questions on her exams so you have no room for error or forgiveness. TA was no help at all. Waste!
Maria is by far one of the WORST professors at UCF! UCF must have felt bad for her for something, because there is no way she deserves to be at this school! She can't teach to save her life, avoid her at all costs! The book is more useful than her. Unless you are good at math, she is not worth your time!
You can disregard the negative reviews. This class is simple if you put forth a bit of effort and she really is a sweet lady. Her accent is not that bad and she's easy to understand. I'm horrible at math and got a B, could have gotten an A if I applied myself a bit more. You can pass this class even if you consider yourself a failure at math. I did
These people are so stupid. Capursi is the best math teacher I've ever had. Her accent is fine and she speaks English clearly. She's very funny and takes time outside of class for review sessions. I'm horrible at math and got a B, it's really not that hard. Plus, its way easier than algebra.
Attendance to this class is not mandatory but the week that I missed was the test I failed. Capursi is really good at explaining the material in class, and the tests are mostly made up of what she shows you. A really good teacher.
This professor will help you out if you ask for it, however, don't trust her when she tells you you're going to pass if you're at the borderline of passing. You have to work extremely hard, and make sure that you're reading your calculus book as well.
I am an exceptional student, not a slacker and by no means incompetent. Dr. Capursi is by far the worst individual I've ever had the displeasure of having as a professor. The avg's for her exams ranged from 45-65 yet Gordon rule requires a C in this course. This is the only course I've had to take again, because I was 3% away from a C. Avoid her!
She is one of the worst teachers ever. She couldnt even teach the easiest subject available. If you can take someone else.
Professor Capursi is not a bad professor, she is just straight to the point. She tells you exactly what she expects and how to prepare. Do the practice problems like she suggest and you'll do well. Also if you go to office hours she is helpfull and breaks it down. Don't get me wrong you have to put in the work but an A isnt impossible.
She is probably the worst math teacher I have ever had. First, she makes calculus much harder than it really is. I took calc my senior year of high school, so this was all review for me, thats the only reason I got an A. Takes atleast 2 weeks to grade tests. Homework is nothing like what she teaches in class. Her tests are just obnoxious.
She is the Worst Professor you can ever take at UCF. I took her for the Spring of 08, and it was the worst mistake i ever made. It is very hard to understand her, she is inpatient, and unwilling to help students. She CANNOT teach. Avoid her if you can! The lab for this class is a waste of time because the TA are also unprepared like she is.
I'm going into my third year at UCF this coming fall, and Capursi was by far the worst teacher I have had so far. You can not understand a word she says and she is no help at all. DO NOT take her! I was .1% away from a C to pass the class, and she gave me a D!!! This is the only class I've ever had to retake!
It is a shame that one needs to use ratemyprofessor.com for UCF. Professor Capursi does a despicable job of teaching. She has no passion for math and couldn't care less about student success. She does the bare minimum required for the math dept. Go with a different professor or you're almost guaranteed to fail.
Mrs. Capursi is not a good professor by any means. Her accent makes it nearly impossible to understand and she has no idea how to teach. She makes the material much harder than it really is and the things that are on the homework and tests she does not even teach in class. By far the worst professor i've ever had. Do not take her class!!!!!
Took her for finite math. AWFUL TEACHER. Better be prepared to use for grade forgiveness and share a book. Only thing you need is my math lab but never opened the book until the final
AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. Cannot teach at all! Her own teaching aid told me not to come to class and to just study mymathlab, but when I did I FAILED THE TEST that I studied for for many days. She is rude, impatient, doesn't care for her students at all, and answers questions in her head making it impossible to follow along in class.
This class requires alot of studying... I never really attended class. MYMATHLAB.com will become ur best friend. she has an accent but its not unbearable. GOOD LUCK!
The homework and the quizzes were fairly easy, lots of problems, but really not that hard. Tests are very short 15 questions or so and you don't get a lot of time, only downside to the class, tests are worth a lot. If you understand math this class will not be that hard you will easily get a B.
I cannot understand the comments on this site regarding Ms. Capursi. I found her accent quite tolerable, and her passion for math was very evident. You have to work in her class, but you should - it's a COLLEGE level course. I thought she was a good teacher.
Would not recommend her at all. She is not helpful, she always gripes and CANNOT teach worth beans. If you have her try and switch out but if that is not an option, good luck! Just do the homeworks and practices tests and make sure you study well for the tests and you will get a B or an A. Bad professor though.
She simply does not TEACH!! I Basicly had to teach myself the course on mymathlab. She does nothing to get you prepared for test. She does NOTHING for students besides make an easy course into a jigsaw puzzle.
Horrible teacher. I got an A because I worked extremely hard and used the book and mymathlab to teach myself. She only makes things more confusing. Don't take her.
So, I actually took precalc in high school, and that's the only way I follow what she's doing. She does problems the hard way, I knew easier ways that I learned before thank god... But She is kinda funny sometimes with the phrases she says- the only thing that kept me remotely awake in class.
Capursi is one of the nicest professor's I have had. She has a bit of an Italian accent, but is easy to understand. She explains material quite well and is available to help. Her quizzes are weekly unless theirs a test, but are easy. The tests are hard but she is very good about giving parital credit.
Try to avoid this teacher at all costs! I took pre calc in high school and still managed to fail. Keep in mind that I took all the weekly quizzes and all the tests (which by the way are brutal), and still ended with an F. Im an A/B student and her teaching is just the most confusing thing ever. She is a nice lady though...
Took precalc in high school and got an B in both I didnt try in either class at the end on her last 2 tests didnt even study for them got B's on both Uses MyMathLab use that as your teacher unless you really dont understand it go to class and ask her to help able to use hw on quizzes if u dont understand math then you better find somebody that does
This teacher is absolutely horrible. She teaches so slowly that I couldn't keep my eyes open to save my life. I have taken AP Calc in Highschool and still managed to fail because she confused the hell outta me. I strongly recommend that you avoid this teacher at all costs.
Great teacher. The comments from the lower level math classes are from students who obviously had her in a lecture hall. In her calc class, she makes sure that everybody gets a fair chance in passing and is focused on teaching. She is willing to commit time after class to help you learn and makes some fun games to help learn. Take her for calc!!
Please, don't take her- for your own good. I'm a straight A's student and good at math, and I had to work my ass off to get a decent grade in the course. She doesn't explain, if anything she confuses you. Tons of homework. Not helpful in her office hours, just don't take her. Trust me.
the comments on here are pretty unfair. it is a very well put together class. the course itself is not an easy one. but she is very helpful and she definitely knows what she is talking about.
Intelligent teacher, however she is more concerned with you punching the clock on time than you learning. Does *EVERYTHING* by the books, no exceptions. Does offer NC (Get an NC instead of failing) if you make a mistake, but she would rather give you an NC than help you pass. Good teacher with bad principles.
Absolutely terrible. Went to most of the classes, did all the homework, and forgot to sign up for my final. She didn't care. A deadline is a deadline. Got an F.
Class is hard especially since its online mostly has nothing to do with teacher she is extremely helpful and she cares she will go over test to make sure there was no mistakes shes really good at explainin most negatives comments are from people that didnt try PRECALc is hard but she makes it easier best teacher for this class no doubt
Warning!! Does everything by her sylbus she does not care about you at all. Confusing in class and if you were to ask her a question you would stump her. Failed the class because I thought I scheduled my Final Exam at 8:00pm however her book says that I was scheduled for the 6:00 test. So she said too bad and would not let me take the test.
Fairly easy class as all the assignments are online. Do the homework, you'll do fine on the quizzes, which are very similar to the tests. She likes teaching the "long ways", so it may seem a bit confusing. I took pre-cal in 10th grade so this class was more of recalling old info for me. Oh, if you don't know what synthetic division is, Google it.
This teacher is very nice. Unfortunately she has somewhat bad foreign accent. I had a hard time understanding her. She does all her problems the long way.MyMath Lab is terrible and flawed so have fun with that. You can bargain for a better grade on your tests. I got 5 points more on each of my tests by just asking for partial credit.
SHE CANNOT TEACH STAY AWAY!! Stopped going to class after the first test she only confuses you. I got an A but had to work my tail off. Get a tutor and learn to love Mymathlab. Her english is terrible and her teaching methods need some serious review. Don't buy the book just use mymathlab and pray. Best of luck!
I took this class during the summer. It was very difficult since most of the work is online. Professor Capursi does have an accent and likes to work the problems the long way, but she is really nice and sometimes even funny. Even though the tests are hard, she reviews all the material and gives you the chance to ask questions.
this class shouldn't have been as hard as it was. she is very unclear and offers not assistance besides mymath labs. accent is a little rough but its understandable. if you are good at teaching yourself then go for it. if not, drop it before your GPA is affected
She teaches you the basics of a concept and tests you as if you know this material inside and out. Unfairly hard tests. I studied for eight hours on one and still got a 59. These ratings are reliable and I wish I had listened to them beforehand. I'm barely getting an NC in this class and have since stopped attending class. Do NOT take her.
does things the longer way but not impossible to understand. can be very funny at times. must to the hw, practice tests and weekly quizes to do well on the tests. second test is the hardest one. final was pretty easy. dont need to buy the textbook, you will nver use it. overall not an easy class but not an impossible A.
Never had a problem with math classes at UCF til i took this. It sucks out your soul. The tests were BRU-TAL. Theres about 50 topics for each exam you can be tested on, and like 14 questions on the test itself...have fun studying, it really makes no difference...sure i never went to a class (as everything is on MML) and just squeezed by with a C.
The downfall of every student is mymathlab because it has a "help me solve this" function. Students use it to get answers, not understand concepts. So when you get 100s on the HWs and quizzes, you don't really retain any information. If you go to class, take notes, and grind out problems you'll be fine. But you should do that for every class.
She has a little bit of an accent, but it's tolerable. She's very intelligent, but she goes about explaining things in the most confusing way possible, even the simple algebra stuff.
I took her for precalc. Do all your homework. You can stop the time on the quizzes if you just press the back button and come back to it! Go to her office hours often. Its actually a pretty hard class, I studied for it all the time and barely got an A.
I scored a c in highschool calculus. Yet for some reason in her class I keep failing, both semesters I had her. She does not assist, and the homework is frustraitingly long
Dr. Capursi is by far one of the best teachers in this school. She teaches math in a way that is very easy to understand. If you do the work, the quizzes, the homework, and actually study for the tests, you should be fine. She is always willing to help students. Overall, she is a wonderful teacher and I wish I could take her again.
Good Professor. Horrible class, but it's not her fault. She teaches well, but the material covered is extremely frustrating. You basically learn how to do the most involved algebra in the most long and tedious ways. Poor test grades are common due to simple mistakes made on 25 step problems. She is the best teacher for a crappy course. Hard C.
LOVED HER! She made sure to go back over all the homeworks to check if we should get partial credit. Class was a little hard, but nothing extreme.
Great professor, explains clearly, fair & nice. WORST part is MML; practice tests r 80?,tests r 15-20 WTF. 100s on quizzes, HW do not guarantee good test grades. Lowest test replaced w/final, which helps. Could have gotten a B, but was scared I might get lower so I failed the final and got an NC. I would recommend this prof if u r not a math person
Took her for pre-calc and never really attended classes because it was mainly an online course dealing with Math Labs. Took her again for Calc I and her tests were very fair, she is very clear on teaching material. Not as "intimidating" as other calc professors, slight accent but still easily understood. Highly recommended
I understand Precalc is a hard class but I NEVER expected to fail after taking only 2 exams.Capursi needs to sit down and do the homework she assigns every week like a student would do it, and she might find that it is absolutely absurd and overwhelmingly time consuming.UCF REALLY needs to reevaluate this teacher/course combo.AWFUL.
barely ever attended class, it's mostly all just onlinee. nice teacher would totally recommend her. if you need her textbook email me at [email protected] :)
ok, this professor wasn't too bad but she has an accent so its hard to hear her from the back of the room. overall she was okay but i only got a B and i'm a math major, so i wouldn't recommend this class if you're just taking it as a Gen ed class, the worst part about this prof is sometimes she'll go over a problem and then never give the answer!
This class is way to difficult for a 1000 level class. A lot of homework that is due every week followed by a quiz all on My Math Labs. Towards the end of the semester, it seems like she shoves in a whole bunch of 50+ question assignments just to make us catch up with the chapters she is required to teach. Do not take her.
Her teaching style is aimed at confusing someone who is new to this concept of math. I took calc in HS (4 on the exam), so I knew Calc, but she really encompasses alot of non-understandable theory that may mess up someone who is just starting out. She doesn't grade very well and gets annoyed if your work on tests is sloppy.... Find a better prof.
She's a great teacher and you have homework every week. Tests are mostly from in class notes so definitely go to class. She has an accent that may be hard to hear from the back but you know the solution? Don't sit in the back. I would highly recommend her!
Good Teacher. Go to class, pay attention, and take notes. All of the work is online. Make sure to work on the hw until you have 100% because you have unlimited tries and it really helps your grade. Also, put in the effort to take the quizzes a couple times because your best grade is the only one that counts. Easy A!!!!!
Terrible. MyMathLab taught me everything. Book is 100% useless. She explains everything in the complicated technical terms. She does have an accent but by the end, you'll adjust. Nice, but sometimes had a sarcastic attitude. Always had A's in math courses, but got barely a B. EXTREMELY hard tests. Unfortunately, there's no other pre-calc teacher.
Very Nice. She teaches hard classes, but if you attend and do your homework the class is passable. Don't think your just going to breeze through. I do not care who's teaching, this is difficult stuff. She does not make it anymore difficult than what it is.
This is the worse math professor I've ever had. She yells at you in her office and can be very disrespectful. During the final exam, a classmate asked her a question, and she subsequently yelled at the entire class. She needs to go back to Italy.
I took this class in high school, so I pretty much knew all of the material coming in. She is a great teacher that is always willing to help anyone that asks for it. Calculus is definitely her strong suit.
Dr. Capursi is a good teacher. She has a little bit of an accent, but you get used to it. I took her for precalc, calc 2 and I'm signed up for her calc 3 class. She explains things well in class and then goes over several examples until the end of class. There aren't any curve balls on her tests. Most of her test questions were examples from class!
She is amazing. She grades tough, so be prepared to work and be ready for tests. But, she is the most willing and helpful teacher. I wish she was teaching my next math class! She is very thoughtful, and wants you to succeed....but again, do the work, ask for help, be ready to get the job done.
She is the best math professor I have ever had. She will bend over backwards for you and do everything [pssible to help you. she holds review sessions on sundays for the class and will work with you until you understand this. If you can take her do it! there is no one better
Calc 2 is difficult, regardless who is teaching it. She doesn't grade HW, but it is used for quiz and exam material. She will bend over backwards to help you. But, you have to let her know if you donâ??t understand something. She is very good about extending her office hours, if needed. She truly cares about her students and wants them to succeed.
Like others have said, Calc 2 is a difficult class but she lectures well and does a good job of explaining things, and her accent isn't hard to get used to. Homeworks are a little long but aren't unreasonable and she is very helpful if you're having trouble. If I make it to Calc 3 I'm definitely taking her class.
Very Good. Explains material very well. Everywhere that I saw her rating was bad so I thought I would contribute. She is a wonderful professor.
This professor is awesome.
Very good professor! Very intelligent, explains material well. Really wants to help her students. Calc II is difficult so you have to put in the work. If you want a good legitimate shot at an A and want to learn Calculus II, take this professor. My favorite professor by far!
My favorite professor! Dr. Capursi is very intelligent and caring. A good professor can mean many things, however she is truly one who increases knowledge and understanding.
As a CS major, the best math teacher I've had so far. She makes math crystal clear
A wonderful teacher, she cares about how thoroughly the class understands topics before moving on. She is clear as can be, typically deriving the important theorems used before defining them for you. Calc 2 is difficult, but if you want to be successful, she will guide you all the way through.
She is very nice and explains course material very well. Tests are mostly easy relative to the difficulty of the class. Best teacher I have had so far.
I took Calc 2 with her, and she's basically perfect and amazing. Her notes are highly organized and she explains things very clearly. Many kids thought the tests and quizzes were difficult, but she is generous with partial credit. I wish I'd known that you don't need the textbook. She's very nice and friendly. Best teacher ever!
This is the professor you want for any math class. If you're worried about her accent, don't be. You can understand everything she says. I wouldn't have mentioned it here if a bunch of ppl below me didn't. She is an amazing math professor. Definitely would take her for calc 3 if shes teaching it
Very clear and thorough with class problem examples. Very willing to help students out.
Dr. Capursi is a phenomenal professor. She taught Calc II in the easiest possible way. Not too many quizzes and her tests are based mostly on the homework problems. Study. In order to do well in her class you have to practice. Would take her for Calc III if she was teaching it. She is also helpful and very funny.
She is a great teacher! She is super clear and nice about partial credit. Calc 2 is hard so don't expect to get good grades without studying or doing the extra problems for practice. She is helpful in office hours if you need her and she is also super nice. She is my favorite math teacher so far.
Dr. Capursi if a phenomenal professor and wonderful human being. Breaks down concepts very well. Holds decent review sessions. Shows great care for each and every one of her students. She's a very approachable person and teaches extremely well, I highly recommend her.
Very good teaching method, reminds me of high school IB Math, as most of the material is the same and I had an amazing high school math teacher. She is very clear about everything, and works out a lot of examples. If a person is confused and does unwell, it is complete his or her's fault, not Dr. Capursi. I would take her again.
I love this professor! She is amazing and really gets involved with her students. I hated geometry before her class, and now I have such a respect for the subject. My only regret is that she doesn't teach any classes above this one so I won't be able to take her again. Great lectures, clear instruction, great feedback, clear study guides. Take her!
Her class is all word problems. You have to teach yourself on the homework. Quizzes have 7 attempts. Her tests are difficult. I never had the chance to go to her office hours because I work so I never met her in person. The way she puts your final score helps but I just bombed the tests so, better luck to the person. RIP to my GPA.
Wonderfully helpful. Will go out of her way to make sure you succeed if she sees you are making an effort. Very tough grader, especially on the quizzes. It's hard to study for this class because the book is a little different than what she teaches, however without the book I would have been completely lost.
It's a hard class. She is a good teacher but a very harsh grader. You can know all the material and still get a C or a D on the test. STUDY
You teach yourself utterly and completely. Never once went to her for help, even though it was given as an option. I never felt like I needed the help, though. You need the access code, but I never even opened my textbook
Had her for Calc 2 & 3, explains things very well, she can be tough with grading but if you do her study guides for exams and practice your notation you can get an A on any test
It's Finite Math online, it's exactly what you'd expect. She's a great teacher though&gives lots of good feedback on your assignments and has a lot of examples on webcourses. However, beware of MyMathLabs, because you're going to have a good amount of homework due each week, plus a quiz and a class activity. Just try and you'll pass this class. :)
Typically in an online class, professors posts modules or notes. Dr. Capursi does not, she just posts the assigned reading and the homework problems. The class is fine if you keep up with the readings! Most of the homework problems don't correlate with what is on the exams, but she posts exam topics a week before the exam.
Don't do it to yourself. She takes forever to grade exams and she's not clear in her explanations. Not worth the headache, I had to drop her course.
This is a really hard class in itself, but I love Capursi as a professor. She explains things very well, and does a lot to engage the class. She is always in her office, so I went to her office hours a couple times a week. Her exams are hard, and she grades pretty tough, but fair. She really cares about her students,
Tough grader and no extra credit. But she's very dedicated to help you learn and takes the time to tend to your needs. Engages the students with learn then solve problems. You have to do the homework if you want to pass, only worth 7% of grade but will help tons on understanding. Really kind and sweet, brought cookies to destress students on final.
I had Capursi for Calc 2 & 3, tough courses but she makes them easy if you go to lecture. One of the best at visualizing the material. The exams can be tough but you can get a lot of partial credit on a wrong answer if you can show your work well.
This class is AWFUL. Finite Math online-- I thought it would be easy, right? Wrong. She gives so much homework-- 3 assignments of 20+ questions every week. You teach yourself. There are no lectures or notes posted by Dr. Capursi, and she's a very tough grader on open-ended assignments. Unless you absolutely have to take this class, DON'T!
She is a great professor, and makes calc 3 about as clear as possible. Does her best to avoid a lot of the difficult things from calc 2 like trig sub and IBP, and teaches it mostly based off of a strong calc 1 foundation. If you see yourself struggling by the first exam, talk to her. She is very understanding and informative.
Despite being an online class, Professor Capursi is usually available to answer any kind of questions that you may have. She's very understanding about any issues that you may have with accessing material or scheduling a test. Would definitely take again!
Dr. Capursi doesn't really take a role in actually teaching, which may or may not be her fault as UCF uses the program MyLabs Plus. In summary you'll need to invest time outside of the online class to go and learn from office hours if you don't quite get it or spend hours searching the internet, which is a problem if you're always busy like me.
Out of a bunch of math professors I have taken, she was the best. Let it be feedback or in class discussion, you won't ever have to leave the classroom with an unanswered question.
Good lectures, and I physically enjoyed being in class, but her grading is incredibly tough. Very theorem/concept focused. You'll need to pay attention to her notation rules because she will mark you off for it and bring a quiz or test from an A to a B. Posted practice tests don't cover everything that's tested on, and tests are painfully short.
This is one of the best professors. She really cares for her students and if you go to her office hours she will take as long as it takes to help you understand the material. I took her for her first semester teaching Calc 1 and she was great and really helped me pass this difficult class.
HW due Mon & Fri normally two sections a piece plus class HW due Mon. You can skip every single hw and pass if you are good at tests. I got an A in HW, class HW, went to office hours, studied forever and couldn't pass the tests. Her response? Too bad... class went from 50 to 15 people after withdraw deadline. Pick any other professor trust me.
Taking Calc 1 with Dr. Capursi isn't bad. She goes over the basics of calculus which if you pay attention you'll do fine. There's a good amount of homework , attendance is graded. There's weekly recitation quizzes and 3 major tests + the final. At the end of the course she drops the two of lowest grades for: Homework, Quizzes and Attendance.
Professor Capursi does an excellent job of simplifying complex calculus topics into easy to understand concepts. She provides a practice exam and tells you what topic is going to be tested on the quiz. Homework does take alot of time to complete so be sure to start it early so you can ask questions as needed. Overall, she is very helpful.
Professor Capursi is truly amazing. If you have never taken calculus before do not be afraid. She is very accessible during office hours, and ensures that you understand the material. She posts practice tests so you can be prepared, and quiz topics are also posted. Attendance is graded. Do not make the mistake of taking any other professor.
AMAZING professor. Pros: A ton of office hours, she is super nice and is extremely helpful with anything. Gives out very useful practice test before every test (3 Tests + Final). Lectures are mandatory with IClicker grades but lectures are good. Cons: Test are very short (9 questions) partial credit is given but I found it hard to get an A on them
She is competent and compassionate but not easy - she treats her students fairly and provides them with all the necessary resources to pass. There's a reason for the fail rate 50% fail rate, but if you show up to class, do homework problems, and study for the 3 exams and comprehensive final using practice problems you WILL pass.
I did the problems in the book that were not required. I don't know why she gets a bad rap. I found her easy to understand and super helpful after hours. There's only so much time during class hours. You have to work on it outside of class.
Her lectures make sense and she tries to explain how to think through each type of problem. She gives a lot of practice material like review tests. However, there are only three tests and they're only 9 questions so if you screw up it will hurt. She treats everyone fairly and the material on quizzes and tests isn't too hard.
She's not a bad professor like some say. The class does move kinda fast, but her lectures are pretty good and she teaches well. There's a lot of homework every week. Quiz every Friday on concepts learned that week (usually like 1/2 questions). If you've taken Calc before, then this class will be fine for you.
Homework is online, but it's not too bad. Really good at explaining the math concepts and is available outside of class for questions. Overall, a very helpful and kind professor.
Dr. Capursi is a great professor, she explains in details and is very accessible outside of class. Her tests are pretty hard but they're from the department, and her TA grades them. I'm not good at math but I understand better when she explains it. Do the syllabus q's and if you don't understand something GET HELP FAST!.
Not a bad teacher, but her explanations are lacking ESPECIALLY ONLINE. If you don't go to class your iclickers grade will suffer and she gives such a high percentage of your grade to them. The tests aren't hard, but they're 18-20 questions so you get three wrong and you're at an 80 already. Because of how everything is weighted its hard to get an A
This is an easy class as long as you put in the effort. You can't expect to get a good grade by being lazy in this class. Homework and a quiz every week, but they really help your grade, and you get 5 attempts for both until you get your best grade! Tests are almost identical to the homework so use those to study. Need iClicker for participation
Prof. Capursi was amazing for Finite Math. As someone who has struggled with math their entire life, she made it easy to understand and even enjoyable sometimes. Teaches you just what you need to know, nothing more, nothing less. She uses IClickers, but it does help you to learn. Go to class, and you're pretty solid.
She was a very run of the mill math professor. Class is pretty easy in content if you pay attention.
Capursi was a great professor. She cares and wants to answer every question. Uses iClicker as participation and attendance grades daily. Do your homework and quizzes on time and its easy to get a good grade.
I took her Calc 2 class because I wanted to refresh on my calc 2 from high school. Although it was a refresher, I did find many of her lectures extremely clear and helpful with whatever I was shaky on. Additionally, she is one of the math advisors (I just added a math major) and was extremely knowledgeable in the requirements and very supportive.
I LOVED Capursi as my calc 2 professor, granted she was tough with notation and did in class quizzes over zoom, she makes it VERY easy to understand the topics. She was always very quick to respond to emails and offer help. Overall very caring and genuinely wants you to do well so she offers practice tests. If you don't know who to take TAKE her!
Shes a nice lady but online her explanations are horrible and she will not review things that are necessary that people dont understand. She never replies to emails and the withdraw deadline is thursday and our last grades are from almost two months ago. tests are hard and she doesnt update grades so you have no idea what you have.
If you can, get out of COMPASS/EXCEL it will save you. She teaches the material just fine no issues with that. You will fail tests for no good reason. IF you have issues with getting full credit on notation then please take someone else. For you people with outstanding notation you will be fine.
Best professor I have ever had just gives a lot of hw assignments but they teach you everything. Exams werent horrible she teaches you everything you need to know on the exams. Reccommend if you actually want to learn cus you will not pass if you just wing it.
Zoom lectures were required to attend, the class has homework (can be up to 35 questions) and a quiz due each week. The notes and examples helped, I never used the textbook but it's on mylabs math so you have to purchase it to do the homework, quizzes, and tests. The professor was nice and let us out of the zoom on time.
Zoom lectures are required to attend. Easy class but some topics are tedious to understand. Professor is super compassionate and understanding. Shes an absolute gem.
Best math professor I've ever had. She is very passionate and explains things clearly. As long as you attend class, pay attention, and take notes, you'll be alright. She is also really finnicky on proper notation (equal signs, integral signs, etc.)
You get out of this class what you put into it. Calc 2 is rumored to be one of the hardest math classes, and she will work with you to the degree that you will work with her. This class is test heavy, tests making up about 60%. Tests have good feedback. Office hours are incredibly helpful. Lots of webassign hw. Lots of time out of class working.
Participation points in this class! Listen, this CLASS is hard-- meaning the subject, but taking it with Maria helps you understand it much clearer. She's an awesome teacher and a down to earth woman. She responds quick, but understand she has a heavy workload too so be patient, but take the class in strides. She'll make sure you end with an A!
Great professor! She offers a lot of office hours and is willing to work with students. Your grade is heavily reflected on your test scores but fortunately one does get dropped. Calc 2 requires a lot of practice and outside the classroom work but is doable. Would recommend Dr. Capursi for anyone who really is looking to understand the math.
Calc 2 is a very hard class, but Capursi is there to help. If you put in the work and go to office hours she will make sure you understand the material.
This teacher is very kind and has a lot of time to help students individually. She cares about her students and wants everyone to understand the material. She clearly outlines how the grading will work. I recommend her to anyone that wants to take the class.
She is very passionate about Calc 2 & does provide help if you are stuck on anything. HOWEVER: the simple problems you learn during office hours aren't going to help much as she uses more complex problems on the exams. You will have to do a lot of outside studying if you want to pass the course. If you don't have time, take someone else.
Either quiz or test weekly. Both homework and pre-homework. Examples in class prepare you for the exams. Being a tougher class in my opinion, obviously more studying was necessary outside of the four hours a week she teaches material. How much time you put into this class shows. Always willing to help. Participation only if you do bad on exams.
pros: - willing to spend time and go over the materials that you did not understand during class. - provide plenty of office hours. - provide good lectures + good notes - provide a review session. cons: - accent - lots of homework - 4 exams and 1 final (lowest exam get dropped, but 3 tests are 60% of your grade, and the final is 25%)
Very caring professor. Will stay after class (or during office hours) and just discuss maths. Content was fairly simple. Homework wasn't collected. Tests weren't too difficult.
Capursi, teaches really well in the classroom but the class feels impossible to pass when you get to the test. I would miss one out of the 5-6 questions and lose another 10-15 points on notation for a test and 85% of the class is weighted on testing. The questions on the test are usually way harder than examples in the classroom.
Very good lectures and teacher, she is very compassionate about math and will answer any question you have. She is a bit strict with notation but gives a good amount of partial credit. There's either a quiz or a test every week and the 4 tests + final count for 80% (one of the four tests gets dropped). I would definitely take her again if i can.
I really loved her, she is a great professor. Her lectures were very clear and helpful and 100% helped you prepare for the exams. She provides practice exams that helped me a great deal. My only complaint is that she isnt my professor for MAC2313.
The class was graded by 80% Exams. It always felt like our class was the least prepared for these exams and I know I never felt like the exams matched what we did in class or in homework. This class was a horrible experience, and I would not recommend taking it with her.
Although she failed me last year, she's still my favorite professor.
Probably the best Calc professor Ive ever taken. I didn't learn much from the lectures but when I went to the office hours , she helped a lot. Went to the office hours more than class to be honest. Passed every Quiz and Exam but exams are weighted way more than anything so be careful.
Even if I had failed this class I would retake it with her. She taught the material really well and cared a lot about her students. Her office hours are amazing!! Make sure you go to her office hours she works through problems with everyone in a group and helps with the homework problems as well.
Dr Capursi is a great professor and truly the heart of Calc 2 on campus. If you are struggling with the class she will help you as she cares about all her students. Lectures are clear and she is always fair with the homework assignments and quizzes. If you have to take MAC 2312, take it with Dr Capursi!
Ms Capursi was definitely the best professor I've had so far. 3/4 lectures were mandatory each week, and she didn't have nearly as many quizzes as the other calc profs. Her lectures were really good, and she always explained things thoroughly if you didn't understand. She's pretty much always available outside of class hours if you need extra help.
Would 100% take this professor if you are a major that doesn't require math! Class is fairly easy and has none of that "calculus" garbage public school drilled into my brain. Dr. Capursi is very caring and does her best to make you pass. Only complaint is that the 80 minute lectures got a little boring towards the end. Class material is very easy.
Profesor Capursi is a wonderful teacher. Math is my weakest subject, and I was afraid I would fail, but she was very helpful and had plenty of office an hour as well as offered practice tests and extra credit. I would recommend anyone taking math to take her if they can!
I was very nervous to take this class as someone who struggles with math. She was honestly a great professor and tried her best to make sure we understood the content. Exams took a very long time to be graded (upwards of ~2.5 weeks) but that is my only true complaint. She's a great professor and I would take her class again.
Dr. Capursi is a great professor, I did have some negative interactions with her though. She called me out in front of the whole classes while I was looking at information for classes for the next semester. Besides that she is a great professor and does care for you passing her class. I recommend her if you struggle with math, shes very helpful.
Exams make up almost your entire grade. HW and quizzes barely affected final grade. She explains everything very clearly and accurately and is an excellent lecturer
She gives great lectures and homework is representative of the quizzes she gives. Homework has unlimited tries and the professor is very helpful. Lectures do get boring at times but her notes are easy to follow and the curriculum isn't too hard. Great if you are not a math person!
Professor Capursi holds office hours for MAC 2313 which are extremely helpful. Even though this was an online course, she holds in-person office hours in which she'll help you until you understand. She cares about her student's success and will help them get through even the toughest Calc 2 material. If she were teaching MAC 2313 I'd enroll for her
Such a sweet professor! Extremely clear and concise lectures. Very fair and generous grader.
Such an amazing professor, this is UCF's first time hosting MGF1130 but she's done an amazing job with this course so far. She has a genuine care for her students and their success, and she tries to incorporate the students into the lectures instead of just reading powerpoints for an hour+. Please take her and show her support!
Professor Capursi is a caring instructor who explains concepts clearly. While the exams are heavily weighted, her office hours are extremely helpful. For studying, I found Unstuckstudy and the free textbook to be great resources.
This is a truly Kind and caring professor who'll help with what you need and has many office hours. If you are dedicated, you will pass. She is fair, tough sometimes but that's the class not her, but completely fair nothing extreme. She cares and wants us to pass. Lots of in class exercises, she made Taylor series fun, she's a great lecturer.
Prof Capursi was great for Calc 3. She cares how the students do and gives many resources for success. It may be tougher in the course if you dont have a good understanding of calc 1 and 2, but if you study to know the concepts, go to lectures, and office hours if needed, you can succeed. textbook is free, homework not free but not too expensive.
