Very good teacher. You will get an A if you come to class and do the worksheets. Is willing to help you if you ask. Speaks with an accent, but is not hard to understand.
Excellent teacher, all tests are out of the powerpoints and she has very helpful handouts, just make sure you do them for a good grade on the tests. Didn't open the book once and got an A.
Very detailed.
She's easy, but her accent is a little hard to understand sometimes.
I love her. She's really nice. She'll emphasize and hint to what will be on the exam and she gives great class lecture and notes!
Dacosta is a wonderful teacher, and LOVES teaching econ. She has a lot of slides and examples to make ecerything easy to understand.
This class is pretty easy, she is up front and gives everythign on tests and quizzes, its just boring
she's very easy and her tests are just like high school test. easy A if you study. lectures get long.
Easy class! Look over the notes and you will get an A in this class. She is very helpful too.
I loved her and would take her for anything. She lets you know what is going to be on the test and explains everything really well. She takes time to make sure you understand things. It was a great class
She is a very good professor who explains everything well. The worksheets and study guide are very helpful.
Hard to understand with her accent at first. But a helpful and cool teacher overall.
class notes are awesome. the notes are very well organized and easy to understand. the quizes and tests consist of multiple choice questions and a short essay question. they are pretty easy. i wish my econ104 teacher was more like her!
great prof. I would definitely take a class with her again
Awesome teacher!! Takes as much time as needed to make sure everyone understands the class. Hints at what will be on quiz. Little homework, worksheets that she doesn't collect, but are very helpful.
She is the best professor at UWEC. Her teaching is clear and her tests are easy if you go to class and do the homework. Take her classes!
Professor DaCosta is the coolest! Her teaching techniques are excellent and she's very passionate about her field.
I had an A all semester.... but the final really screwed me over. Be sure to study extra hard for that. She's a really nice lady though- remembers everyone's name, even in such a big class.
A very good teacher. Her tests and quizzes are hard so just make sure to study. I would defintely recommend her.
Use optinonal study guide and you will be set. I never touched the text book, but studied out of the guide and recieved a full A.
Hard quizzes and tests but at least you know what is on them.
Dacosta is an awesome professor. Every class is 100% power points and boring. I attended maybe 50% of classes and still posessed the ability to recieve a good grade. The tests and quizzes are easy. You can skip class, read the textbook and get an A.
I took her for Microeconomics. She is a great professor and very willing to help her students do well. I was not good at econ and found it very, very hard and had to study all the time and got out with a C. She can be very funny at times too. Overall she is a great professor but her class is hard.
Probably the best teacher i have ever had and will be taking her next semester for econ 104.She is extremely organized and proficient at teaching the material.Econ was very hard for me but she taught it exceptionally well and Iwas rarely bored. No assignments to turn in and tests/quizes are tough but you will always know what to expect. take DaCosta
Her accent can take a lot of getting used to, but she knows what she's talking about and really enjoys it. She wants her students to do well and if you need help she will help you. Her tests, with the exception of the final, are all very simalar. Just look over the notes you took in class and you'll do fine.
She made Economics bearable, which is amazing!
good teacher, fun, engaging
I liked Prof. DaCosta so much after taking Econ 103 that i took her for 104 as well. She has a bit of an accent but thats no biggie. She teaches very well and doesnt go too quickly. Quiz s and Tests are very straightforward, especially tests. very nice and willing to help as well. honestly one of the best professors i have ever had. Take her!
VERY GOOD TEACHER! Do not have to touch and book and will still receive a good grade. The study guide was very helpful. If you review your notes and use the study guide, you will walk away from the class with an A! She is very organzed and predictable, which I like! This class made me like Econ even more than I already did! Very good teacher!
I liked her, it was nice to have a professor that did not require attendance.
Dr. Dacosta is so nice, and her class is very easy. Just show up and pay attention, and you should get at least a B+
Dr. DaCosta was a great prof. I really enjoyed going to her class which was a big switch from when I took Carroll last semster for Micro. She makes corny jokes, usually about herself and is a super nice lady both in and out of class. I hope to take more classes with her in the future!!
Great Teacher Straight forward and gives clear information.
She's very boring. All she does is go through slides for each chapter and typically gives you a worksheet to do along with it. If you need a class to nap through, this is the one. Quizzes are usually pretty easy if you study the material; tests are a bit harder.
This class ended up being a lot easier than I had anticipated. Da Costa makes everything very clear. All notes are available on D2L and if you study the notes you should have no problem on tests and quizzes - they are a breeze.
Easy teacher. grade is based on 5 quizes and 4 tests study and you will get an A.
Not a bad class, the only tough part is trying to understand what she is saying because he has a heavy accent. She is from Portugal so expect to not understand her sometimes, exams can be tough if you don't put enough time into preparing for them.
Very Helpful!!!! Loved having her as a professor. Tests were hard, you need to study. I pulled away with a B, but I did take Macroeconomics AP in High School but couldn't get the AP credit. Very helpful PowerPoints!
She is a very nice professor. If you are attentive and go to class she will be delighted to help you with any questions that you have. The worksheets that he hands out are helpful, and the tests are moderate. I would definitely recommend this teacher.
She is a very nice teacher, I would recommend her to anyone. The worksheets are helpful, and if you understand them well enough you will get good grades on the tests. Attend class and she will be delighted to assist you with any questions you might have.
Very nice professor. Quizzes are really easy. Tests are a bit harder but if you study you should be fine. Boring class but very easy.
At first she was hard to understand but it was very easy to get used to. She is very funny and very nice. Class was boring, but she has some very interesting stories and it is very funny when she makes jokes about herself. Read the book, do the worksheets, take notes, study, and you should do good. Class was only hard if you didn't pay attention.
She is very very nice and extremely helpful. She knows her students and when your grade slips she'll notice and ask you (privately) if everything is okay and if you need extra help. If your grade starts shooting up, she'll make a point to congratulate you. Very helpful, very funny, very engaging. She'll take xtra time to explain confusing stuff
Good Professor and very nice. Her exams are pretty difficult, but if you take the time to study well, then you'll do fine.
Professor DaCosta was extremely hard to understand. Class was very boring, just reads power point slides every class. Hard to pay attention. Quizzes are pretty easy, tests are tough. Wasn't great on helping. Always said to go to other students.
Professor DaCosta was extremely hard to understand. Class was very boring, just reads power point slides every class. Hard to pay attention. Quizzes are pretty easy, tests are tough. Wasn't great on helping. Always said to go to Economic Study Room which they didnt help at all. She complained a lot about students these days and retiring.
Dacosta is a sweet, cute lady. Now, that is just personal opinion but here is what I know about the class: she is organized and concise. She was always helpful to me when I needed her. She taught in a very efficient manner. I've now started writing my "m" & "n" with an extra hump sometimes though. If you take this prof. you'll know what that means!
Very nice. Notes are power point, she sends them on D2L before class. I found reading chapters before helpful. Lots of worksheets. Quizzes are pretty easy and straight forward. Tests aren't bad if you study.
Professor DaCosta is a very helpful, nice teacher. She helps students understand the subject if they are willing to ask the questions. She knows what she is talking about and is MUCH better than my last econ teacher.
Prof. DaCosta can get pretty boring, but the class isn't too hard. She always says the difficulty level stays the same all semester, which I didn't necessarily believe to be true (I thought it got harder), but it wasn't too bad. For someone who hates econ, it was bearable. She just moves really fast & will never cancel class or let out early!
Lectures are really boring, but make the book easier to understand. Quizzes are not to hard, Exams are pretty tough.
Professor DaCosta made econ easy. class was never mandatory, and if you did miss you could easily catch up with her easy to follow powerpoints. her tests are fair and she explains everything well. no homework, just quizzes and tests. nice, low maitenence class.
DaCosta is a very good professor. Makes it easy too understand, and the work isn't difficult. She gives homework, but it's for your own benefit and doesn't get turned in, so it's optional. The quizzes are easy and the exams aren't bad at all. I got a B in the class, but I skipped a few classes. I could have gotten an A if I went to them all.
Easy class, DaCosta put me to sleep though.
Easy class!
I love her! She made economics very interesting and always has the best interest of her students. Her teaching style helps me understand everything she's saying and makes the class really easy. She doesn't care about attendance, but its the one class I never want to skip and don't mind going to. Overall a great teacher!
I had this class online with prof DaCosta. It is a TON of material to cover in 3 weeks of time, but she seperated everything so it was managable. Very quick getting back to students on their questions and is genuinely invested in her students learning.
Da Costa is awesome! She taught the material in a very understandable way and related the class to real world situations. On top of actually learning something it wasn't hard at all to get a good grade. And let's not forget her awesome accent.
DaCosta was awesome. She had very organized notes and gets through a lot of material. I'm taking 104 with her next semester. Totally suggest her!
FAVORITE PROFESSOR. She moves quickly through the material, but makes it really clear. Doesn't waste time with group projects-grade is based on quiz/test scores. Her accent is awesome and she has a sense of humor too. I'm recommending her to everyone who needs to take an Econ class.
Class is painfully boring. Harder than Econ 103. DaCosta is willing to compromise, nice lady. Just not a great class
I love professor DaCosta! She is adorable and even with her accent she's very easy to understand. She makes everything really clear and is always open to questions. I can't say I find economics terribly interesting but it was tolerable. I think I opened my textbook once, just make sure to print off the outline slides.
she used many videos in her class, most of them were from CNN. It's not rigorous to use lots of information from mass media.
She is a very easy professor. She is not a great lecturer, and struggles when students ask for clarity. Provides excellent resources online to help students prepare for exams.
She was splendid! All of the lectures are on powerpoints. If you pass the quizzes you will do well on the exams
ECON 104 with DaCosta was one of my easiest courses. Quite honestly, I didn't understand how people did not do well. Her lectures were straight from the powerpoints, and the quizzes were easy if you studied a little. Put in a little effort and you will definitely get an A. Dr. DaCosta is a sweet lady with a sense of humor. I would recommend!
Great professor, easy class. Everything is very straight forward and out of the book. I would definitely recommend her.
Hard to understand m.c. is difficult usualy 2 answers are very similar but one is "more" correct. very boring in lecture
Prof. DaCosta is a good overall prodessor. If you put in just a little time in everyday, you will get a good grade. The one thing I disliked about the class was the lack of practice problems. The entire time you are in class, she will be lecturing. It is your responsibility to find practice problems. Study the quizzes before tests.
I absolutely loved her as a professor. You need to really set time aside to prepare yourself for the tests, but she makes things really easy to understand and is such a nice lady. She is probably my favorite professor I've had at Eau Claire so far. Going to her office hours really help!
dacosta is a pretty good professor. she goes through lectures at quite a fast pace and only goes over material once so make sure you pay attention. she's very helpful if you go to her during office hours or before and after class. i would definitely suggest getting the study guide or using the ones from the library you will need them for testsquiz
She is down to earth but an awful teacher. The book helps a lot.
Dr. DaCosta is a great professor! Always willing to help if you ask questions and lectures are really clear. Lectures can drag on if your not into economics. 6 Quizzes (Lowest 2 dropped) 3 Exams
DaCosta is the sweetest old lady you'll ever meet. She wants nothing more than for her students to be happy and to do well. She doesn't try to be, but she is very funny and everybody loves her. The course material Is very easy, and she drops two of your worst quizzes, so it is easy to get an A.
Dr. DaCosta is a great professor. She asks a lot of questions during lecture, but they are really helpful. Your grade is based on 3 exams and 6 quizzes (2 lowest quizzes are dropped). The homework is never graded, but exam and quiz questions are directly from the homework and practice problems. Overall a great professor.
She is a very good professor. I took this class online and she always answered my emails fast and knew exactly how to help! She's very helpful and knowledgable! Would recommend her!
I don't like the way she teaches this class. It is basically watching videos the whole time and this class is like a cultural awareness or history class. There is not a lot about economics which it is kind of disappointing. Grading system is weird. I do not recommended this class.
Dr. DaCosta is a good professor. She's a very kind woman and her lectures give you everything you need to pass. The concepts aren't even all that difficult, anyway. Study for a little bit before each exam and quiz, and you'll do fine.
Great professor with very clear lectures. Can be long but worth it. Super easy class with just 4 quizes and three test with extra credit available on the exams! If you show up and take notes (powerpoint provided on D2L) you will pass with great grade!
Professor DaCosta is a wonderful teacher who values the success of her students highly. The semester plan is layed out from day one and grading is fairly straight forward. Tests and quizzes are extremely easy if you glance over your notes once or twice. I highly recommend Professor DaCosta for any student who has the slightest interest in Econ.
I've loved DaCosta's class! She is very clear on the course materials and uses several examples to make sure that you understand the concepts. You can tell she is very experienced in her field and is passionate about it. If you pay attention you'll succeed. If you respect her she will respect you. Definitely liked her as a professor and a person.
This professor goes at quite a slow pace so it can get old quickly. Extremely helpful if you are confused. Explains things very thoroughly, sometimes too thoroughly. Very good at her job.
DaCosta is very nice and wants you to succeed! She is helpful if you ask any questions and makes her lectures clear. Quizzes and tests are exactly what you'd expect if you go to class everyday. Studying helps for sure! You'll get a good grade if you put in the work. If you are just starting Econ, take her.
DaCosta is one of the nicest professors I've ever had, she is clear and precise with her material and she makes sure to go over it a couple of times before moving on. You get your quiz grades immediately and exam grades within the same day. Maria is easy to talk to and makes sure everyone feels confident with their grades.
Dr. DaCosta was a great teacher. She teaches the content well and explains everything clearly. Your whole grade is based off of four quizzes, two tests and a final. (You take six quizzes but she drops the lowest two.) If you show up to class and give some effort, I'd be surprised if you couldn't get at least a B-. She has a good sense of humor too
DaCosta is a very good professor and knows what she is talking about! Her accent can be difficult to understand SOMETIMES, but not always. She is very good about giving test/quiz feedback, since you go over them directly after taking them.
Prof. DaCosta is a great choice for econ. She makes difficult concepts a little easier to understand. There are 2 quizzes and then an exam. All quizzes & exams are multiple choice. She posts the notes online and emails video examples before the quizzes. She drops the 2 lowest quiz scores & the final is cumulative.
DaCosta was a great professor for a difficult course. Econ was never my strong suit, but she is very thorough with her lectures and always makes sure no one has any questions. Going to her office hours is beneficial, too! She grades you only on quizzes and exams, but if you study you'll be just fine.
I went into this class thinking I would fail... but this is the easiest class. I didn't find the DaCosta to be helpful at all. I ended up teaching myself everything, but it's easy to grasp quickly. Her voice also makes you fall asleep.
She's rather hard to understand.. and i wouldn't say makes ECON very exciting. I would just recommend trying to stay on top of comprehending what she says and teaching yourself outside of class. The tests are really hard.
Very helpful professor. She replaced my other professor half way through the year, and I actually learned economics more in the last half than the first half. She understands you're college students and will probably skip a Friday lecture, so she gives good review at the next lecture. Overall very helpful and doesn't throw many surprises.
More of a history class than Econ so if learning about the Pacific Asian region and its history doesn't interest you, don't take this class. Not too difficult, but you aren't graded on much so do well on the tests. You do a group project that will pretty much bump up your grade unless you completely mess it up. Lecture heavy and lots of videos.
Hard to understand. And your grade depends all on Tests and quizzes. If you're not a great Test taker, i would recommend someone with homework getting some points. I tried very hard with understanding material and the tests are very tricky. If you take her you're in for some challenges..
I love having DaCosta. She is very thourough in her lectures and makes the subject easy to understand. She hands out lots of practice "worksheets" that are very helpful in understanding the material. Overall, she's great and I really enjoy it.
DoCosta is all around a great professor. She is very funny and is very passionate about Economics. She is incredibly helpful and is always willing to help students. The class is graded on 3 exams and 4 quizzes (you take 6 and she drops the lowest 2), which can be a bit scary, but she gives you everything you need to do well on everything!
Economics is probably my least favorite subject of all time, but I really enjoyed DaCosta's class. She explains things clearly in class and doing her homework is helpful. I was sick a lot and missed a lot of class, and DaCosta understood my circumstances. She let me make up an exam and made sure I understood the material. DaCosta is wonderful!
Professor DaCosta clearly explains every concept and gives multiple examples. She goes at a good pace and made the class extremely enjoyable. I wish I could take her again for other classes.
I took this as a online winterim and it was awesome. She posted videos that were helpful to understanding concepts. She opened tests and quizzes early to work with your schedule. Also emailed every week to keep everyone on track. Awesome professor and very understanding and caring.
I really enjoyed this class. In fact, it made me declare a major in economics! Was not very hard and there was no homework. Her lectures are a bit dry but very informative and she tests on what she lectures and straight from the book. She drops your lowest two quiz grades and curves the exams as well.
Very good econ teacher. Take her if you can. She has practice quizzes and uploads her slides to her students - both great for studying. 3 exams and 6 quizzes - takes out your worst two quizzes. She'll catch you on your cell phone - good with remembering names. I'm an econ minor so I liked learning about econ.
Mrs. DaCosta is an incredible and very simple teacher. She is very nice and will help you with anything you need. No need for the textbook. Show up for the class and halfway pay attention and you'll pass.
Dacosta does not sugarcoat this class. On the first day of class, she will tell you that, if you miss a class, you will get behind. She gives you all of the resources to pass the class. She will give you a lot of practice homework and practice quizzes for every quiz and exam online. Will drop your worst 2 quizzes out 6. Each 100 points. 26 MCQ
One of my favorite professors at Eau Claire. I had her for both micro and urban economics. Lectures are interesting, keeps bringing up current real world examples that is applied to what she is teaching. "Homework" is what you do in class, she collects, and makes any corrections - gives full credit for it. Print off the slide notes before class.
Take Micro with DaCosta if you can. She is a very good professor and made things so much easier to understand. All tests and quizzes are out of 104 points. Do the practices quizzes she gives you and put in a little effort and you'll do good. Not required homework but really helps when you're trying to study. Don't need the book but I'd read it over
The class is mostly common sense - not very hard. She drops 2 lowest quiz scores out of 6 and does a grade adjustment at the end for exams to bump up the lowest score a bit. Gives homework but it is not graded - just go over it in class. Lecture can be a bit dry, but overall easy class and great professor.
She is by far the best prof I've ever had. She made Econ interesting and her lectures explained topics clearly. Don't read the textbook, but you have to show up for class because attendance is graded and you probably won't pass without her explanations of topics. Grades are only based on quizzes and tests and there is not homework given.
Fantastic teacher. I always thought that Econ was a tough class before her. However, I never understood it as well as I did with Dacosta. She is funny, and she explains everything very clearly and usually twice. Also, she gives online practice quizes that are the same as the in class quizes that are for credit. Take her!!
I loved Dr. DaCosta, she was passionate about Econ and understands that not everyone is. Final is not cumulative, 6 quizzes (2 are dropped), and there is not homework. You definitely need to study in order to get a good grade but reading the book and taking good notes will allow you to do that. She is a real stickler about phones out in class.
I am not someone who understands economics easily, but I thought DaCosta did a good job of teaching the material and was very approachable. I didn't do the hw outside of class and still managed to get a good grades. As long as you study, tests should be fine.
Dr. DaCosta is THE best Economics professor at Eau Claire. She truly cares about her students. She wants everyone to pass AND learn something. This is my third course with her and I will take again if I get the chance. Little homework, lots of videos, funny jokes, and fair grader.
Easy class with lots of resources to study from. DO NOT GO ON YOUR PHONE! She knows when you are on it and will call you out in front of the class. Only graded on tests and quizzes, boring lectures but all the notes are online and attendance isn't taken.
Hard to understand because she's from portugal. Other than that your only graded on tests and quizzes. She also speaks really fast so its hard to keep up. Econ is difficult enough as it is but she definitely doesnt make it any easier
Professor Dacosta is great. She does a good job with lectures and if you need additional help is awesome in office hours. The material can be a bit challenging and her quizzes/exams are not easy, but she does a good job preparing you for them. Attendance is the deciding factor if you have a boarder line grade.
This was my favorite class by far my first semester at Eau Claire. Dr. DaCosta is very knowledgeable about economics! Take advantage of her office hours of course content is hard to understandshe is very good at explaining difficult concepts in a more simplistic way. Always respect her in class too! Dont use your phone. Its rude!!
This was an entirely asynchronous course, but she didn't teach at all. We had one lecture all semester, everything else was entirely based on how well you could read the textbook. Her quizzes include questions that aren't included in any of the practice problems or talked about in the textbook. I do not recommend unless you are very good at econ.
I would say I barely even did this class. Due to it being online, I could not focus at all on the lectures. They were just slides with her voice over them. The practice quizzes were really helpful, and I think if this class had been in person, I might've actually learned something.
I took this course online over winterim, 10/10. I never emailed her so I don't know how she is on getting back to people, but it was all multiple choice, open note &book quizzes & exams, and a discussion post each week. You have to be able to focus on the material- take thorough notes and listen to the lectures till you understand & you'll do fine
This was the hardest class I've taken so far. It was online so it was very hard to focus especially because the lectures are just hour long videos of her talking about the slides. Nothing made sense and exams were crazy hard. Definitely don't recommend taking this class online, I learned nothing and all this class did for me was stress me out.
I rate all of my professors, I don't really think this one really needs a rating because it was a completely online class, that being said, good lectures and all but it's microeconomics so it's going to be boring.
Super easy class if you take it online. The format is pretty easy and clear, but no interaction with her students whatsoever. I did not learn a whole lot from this class, but her expectations were clear on what the class material was.
Heres the thing. She seems nice but her online class is horribly non-engaging. Tests kind of hit you in the face because her boring lecture videos didnt prepare you well. Study guide is a list of terms lol doesnt help much. Totally convinced that shes amazing in person but if you can avoid her for online I would do that.
I am not the best at Microeconomics. I enjoyed macroeconomics more and found micro more challenging. She does a lot to help her students. I went to tutoring and that was helpful, and she responds to emails fast.
