Professor Erickson is the only teacher i have had at smc who is amazing!she is always avaliable day or night to help you out on anything you are having trouble on.She reviews everything before all tests and has online exercies which are jsut like the test

For Asian,so hard!!!because she gives us great homework!!and quizzes are so hard either.If you learned Spanish before,you can take it but..if you don't have knowledge about spanish...you can not study other classes...so suck!!

Even if you're "native" this is not an easy A, she's a great teacher but you have to do you're homework and come to class on time. Lot's of homework, otherwise good experience. oh, yeah, and DON'T take this class if you're taking other difficult classes, you wont have the time or energy.

A teacher who loves to teach and genuinely cares how you do. There is a lot of homework but as long as you keep up to date with the work - you'll do absolutely fine! There are tests every week but they all help prepare you for the final. Engaging classes that are not boring.

She is an excellent teacher. As a language teacher myself, I found her inspiring and esp. enjoyed the integration of computers, powerpoint presentations, and her enthusiasm in the class - all helped greatly in acquiring the language. Tons of homweork.

She assigns a lot of homework and the 16 hours required in the lab SUCKS! But other than that, if you pay attention in class, it's pretty chill. You're always welcome to ask questions during class, because most likely there are more people who don't understand. Right before a test she'll go over material that will be on it.

She is a great teacher-really helpful! She is willing to answer all questions. Tons of homework but it is pretty easy homework. Before each quiz she thoroughly reviwes the material on the quiz. Great teacher not too hard just do the work. Great if you are really interested in spanish. Entertaining teacher she doesn't bore you at all!

She is easy, but TONS of homework. It is like a full time schedule just keeping up with this class, and you don't learn a whole lot more than just the basics.

She's crazy! She assigned WAY too much homework-Wimba anyone? She also often added things at the last minute. Her tests were INSANE! Kiss your social life good bye! Yes, she is totally nuts- but I LEARNED a ton! Muchas gracias Professora Erickson!

She is so much fun and always so nice. You get to know all your classmates since you're always working with someone new.The activities she creates for class are great! She does assign a lot of homework though.

Mrs. Erickson rocks! She gives a ton of extra credit and her tests are super easy. Plus she'll let you make up some tests if it's worth double points. She does give ALOT of homework and her syllabus is somewhat confusing, but you can turn in late homework. I barely turned in homework, completed lab hours late, bad attendance and i still got a C

Top notch. She requires a lot of work but there's nothing sadistic about it -- she know students need to work hard to learn a language and she's passionate about teaching it. She's clear, pleasant and helpful. She also works at least as hard as any of her students. I wish I could take more courses from her.

She is the sweetest teacher but your life is dedicated to spanish! TONS and TONS of homework but luckily she uses ecompanion so you can get stuff done ahead of time which I highly recommend. Very helpful and if you are having problems go to her.

Profesora Erickson is nice, extremely helpful, and a good teacher. She will do whatever she can to help you and Is easy to communicate with and get a hold of. However in this class I have probably gotten the largest amount of homework than I have ever had in any other class I have ever taken. Ever. But My spanish went up very fast and is now great.

She is always there for her student, she is smart, energetic, and She loves to teach and help student to learn. I am happy that I took this class with her.

I will choose my words very carefully. She is an excellent teacher, but do NOT take her computer Spanish class. The class was insanely constructed. She is insanely fastidious about how things must be done/formatted. It was seriously like being in th military. It was so insane I had to drop, and I'm a straight-A student.

WARNING: Professor Erickson's Spanish class should not be taken by those with no prior knowledge of Spanish. Learn from me, I had to drop. But despite this, I would have to say that she was one of the best professors I've ever had. She was sympathetic, encouraging, and in every way a GREAT professor. So, if you took Spanish in HS - take her class.

Professor Erickson is one of the best teachers you'll have in your life. More homework than I've ever had in a language class but it's fun and interesting. I'm an A student but got a C because I fell behind while on vacation. Wish she taught Spanish 2 - I'd take a class with her again in a heartbeat.

Here is the deal, if you dont have a life and can devote yourself to just spanish, take the class, she is nice a great teacher, but she gives a LOT of homework and is very fastidious of how she wants everything done, I'm fluent in Spanish and thought I could ACE the class, forget it, way too intense, even for someone who is fluent!!

She is an amazing Spanish teacher. She gave me the confidence to actually change my major to Spanish. I ended up going on to graduate school and I always think of her as having layed the foundation for my Spanish!

Hybrid online/in-class class drove me CRAZY! THREE PAGES OF HW INSTRUCTIONS EACH WEEK & HOURS of repetitive work: handouts in class; written hw; txtbk exercises; txtbk exercises online; SMConline web exercises; campus lang lab time; weekly online"meets" w/ random classmate & 3 hrs of class. SO inefficient and frustrating. Lost sight of Spanish.

Profesora Erickson is absolutely spectacular! This was basically my first time in Spanish and I am getting an A! She is SO helpful. She does assign a ton of homework but all of it is relevant and will help you. Lots of quizzes and lots of opportunities for retakes and extra credit. Easy midterm. TAKE ERICKSON!!! She will help you.

it's a lot of work, but she's a great teacher. She gives tons a extra credit and allows you to retake a number of tests. She has tons of energy which keeps the class fun.

Prof. Erickson is the BEST language teacher I've ever had. Gives loads of work, especially for the hybrid course, but it's all very necessary. Really fun & always offers help. Gives extra credit & lets you retake multiple tests throughout the class. If you're dedicated, she's the teacher to take! I learned more in 1 semester than 2 years elsewhere.

I don't believe what the previous commentator said, that if you 'brown nose,' you'll get a good grade. I was a brown noser, it was a super fun class, I was involved, but I didn't get an A. Despite this, it is true that she is incredibly process oriented, and could probably do without a lot of the busy work.

I got an A by keeping up with the homework (DO NOT get behind), taking advantage of extra credit (lab hours), going to the lab before quizzes, paying attention & participating in the class, being sweet to her, sitting in front, working diligently, and being interested! Do all that and you will receive an A!

Mrs Erickson is the best teacher I ever had. I'm not a fan of the language and took the class as a transfer requirement but she made it fun, entertaining, and made it hard for you to not 'get it' if you put the slightest effort in. Shes a great kindhearted lady and I wish more teachers cared for their students like she does. Miss her!

Incredible! Do whatever you can to take her class. Incredibly helpful, smart, funny, caring. Taking her online class right now. A lot of time spent in front of computer but I must say I have been learning a lot! The class works for me cause I go through the online tutorials on my own and retain more. She lets you retake some tests also!

Let's you retake tests and turn in late work. I took her online hybrid course, so we only saw her once a week, but she always made class a really enjoyable experience. She assigns a lot of homework, but it really helps to learn the language. She's fun, and nice. I really can't say enough about how great her class was.

WAY TOOOO MUCH HOMEWORK. Like waaay too much. NOT an easy A. even the native speakers were complaining about the insane amount of homework. that aside, cool teacher, you will learn if you follow the path she sets forth for you. I would avoid taking this class! Prof. Erickson assigns extremes amount of homework. She is a good professor, however if you fall behind she will not be there to catch you.

This class literally had me getting anxiety attacks because theres a quiz once a week and a ton of homework that takes much longer than what the syllabus says its going to take. Now that the class is over I can say ive learned a lot but man was it a rough 15 weeks.

Simply amazing teacher ! I'm so thankful I started to study Spanish with that teacher ! She gave me the most powerful foundation . I started speaking, reading and writing Spanish fluently after her class and I didn't know Spanish before at all ! Doing all hw gives you increadable practice as well ! Good luck

Erickson is truly a great professor, but your entire semester will be devoted to learning Spanish. Advice: Stay ahead of the homework! Its a lot but its all very interactive and online, designed to get you learning in different ways. Also, really prepare for the weekly quizzes. This class is a lot of work but you will come out of it knowing spanish

Erickson is one of the best professors I have ever had. Incredibly smart, funny, detailed, gave multiple opportunities to improve our grades, actually memorizes our names, and actually cares if we learn. Do not take her class if you don't have time. Her hybrid class demanded triple the amount of time for online homework than another online class.

I have taken many many classes at Santa Monica College and I have to say that Professor Erickson is by far the best professor I've ever the pleasure of being taught by. She is professional, passionately dedicated to helping her students, funny, fair, and amazingly kind. Believe the other reviewers - TONS of work required outside of class. TONS!!

I worked so hard to get an A for Dr. Erickson's class and I hated her for a while due to massive workload until I realized how she was only pushing us to do better. And I did! With all the opportunities she's given us to improve our grades, I am extremely grateful because no professor would do what she does for her student. Extreme Thank You!

You are not in high school. College is about self study - you have to study for yourself now. Professor Erickson values each and every one of her students and wants them to achieve their professional best. This is a foreign language, and she teaches as though it's your first. Expect lots of work & homework, but lots of opportunities for points.

I absolutely loved this professor. Were there a few days that I'd hoped to have gotten a bit more sleep? Well, sure. I agree. She gives a lot of homework, but it's not impossible. The great thing about her homework is it focuses on materials that are highlighted in the next class, so you aren't left behind (that is if you actually do the homework).

Spanish is about practice, so she assigns A TON of homework and assignments. If you do not have the time to spend to study or do work for this class EVERYDAY, then take another professor. She gives extra credit, lets you retake quizzes/midterm, and has great office hours. She is an absolute sweetheart and wants you to pass.

Profesora Erikson is intelligent, thorough, organized, caring-- she has the qualities I wish all professors had. If you are not familiar with Spanish, this class is will be a challenge. She accepts late work and allows (some) quiz retakes. Yes, there is a lot of homework but completing will ensure exam/quiz success. Take advantage of S.I. sessions.

If you wanna learn spanish take her class, she really cares about her students and their progress. She's a really caring teacher and she will expect the same from them. And at the end of the semester you will see your own progress at her class, she will make you want to study.

Mrs. Erickson is the sweetest teacher ever, if you are studious,you will learn a ton. You must be consistent in doing your homework every day otherwise you will be overwhelmed in no time. Although this class is hard work, you will be successful if you are using all the resources that SMC is providing you. (Teachers office hours, tutoring center.)

Very sweet professor who cares about her students. 20-30 online assignments each night due before next class. Quizzes every Friday, will mark you wrong if you capitalize or don't accent a letter. No easy way out of her class, you must put in the work and study a LOT but you WILL definitely learn a fantastic foundation of Spanish.

Professor Erickson is a really good teacher. She makes you want to earn her respect and a higher grade. I've taken countless Spanish classes before this and this was the only one where I felt I truly learned something and progressed as a speaker. You will have to work really hard, but it is an extremely rewarding class.

Excellent professor! HW and web exercises on canvas are extremely helpful. Participation is a large part of the final grade. Utilize her office hours, student-instructor sessions, language lab, and tutors. She gives you all the tools you need to succeed in the class. Apply yourself and you will succeed. I wish I could take her for Spanish 2.

She's a great professor, if you don't get a good grade then it's really your fault. If you're not happy with your quiz score she occasionally offers a retake. Offers plenty of extra credit but canvas page is a little tricky. Make sure to click every practice link she gives most of it counts for points I almost dropped down to a B because of it.
