GOtta love Maria! talk talk talk people...she's loves yakkity people and she's very lenient on papers, she will give you opportunities to submit late works and such! some students i know do not like her style of teaching but I LOVE IT! except i really hate american literature... Maria go teach something more interesting!!!!
take her especially if you are not the best writer..she is really easy i kept on getting 90 somethings on the papers! SHe is also a cool person!
I am going to be as frank and direct as I can. The pros: It's true that with this professor you will probably obtain a high grade. The cons: This professor is not the type of professor that will challenge her students. I spent one whole semester in her class and I have to admit that I learned almost nothing. Her classes were redundant and extremely boring. A waste of time! Hey if you don't have a problem with people playing with your time and all you care about is an easy passing grade, than by all means this is your professor. But if you are a zealous and solemn student that takes their education seriously than this professor is not the right professor for you!!! *END OF STORY*
THE BEST LIT PROFESSROR I EVER HAD VERY HELPFUL THE BEST EVER.
Extremely nice and lenient. You have to read six books and write a response to each, with a few quizzes sprinkled in between, a midterm and a final. Midterm caught me off guard, but if you read the work you'll do well. Has a really nice demeanor, which might be her downfall in the sense that other students take advantage of her forgiving nature.
You must read and pay attention to what she says in class if you want to pass the quiz and the papers she gives! Is not an easy A..... might be consider easy A only if you READ and LISTEN and PARTIcipATE in class. Is not much to ask for so thats why is simple... Do not get scared when you see the sylabus because you will want to drop the class lol
Dont get scared of the syllabus. common sense, six books, write a response to each book (1page)compare to other classes u write "3 papers" each is what like 3 to 5 pages?ur WRITING about 9 to 15 pages for 1 class. in Professor Grewe class u only write 6 pages(in total) thats all she ask for and a midterm and final.plus u can rewrite ur papers for A
very well organizedas and Respectful. lectures are clear and comprehencesable. She had a wonderful sense of humor and treasured her students and colleagues.Literature introduces us to new worlds of experience.Ultimately, we may discover meaning in literature by looking at what the author says and how he/she says it.This course has made me realize th
she very nice.I kind of like her. Very respetful. Well organized. easy going. she has inspired me, in the way i view literature. Thanks professor. literature 232-02
VERY NICE, EXTREMELY GOOD AT WHAT SHE DOES. IN THE BEGINNING IT SEEMS LIKE A LOT BECAUSE THERE ARE ABOUT 9 BOOKS AND A PAPER FOR EACH BUT YOU HAVE MORE THEN ENOUGH TIME TO COMPLETE EACH ASSIGNMENT AND SHE WILL GIVE YOU GOOD INSIGHT TO BETTER YOUR WRITING HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU TAKING HER FOR A CLASS THAT IS NEEDED OR NOT NEEDED DO THE WORK GOOD LUCK
grewe is an awesome professor. she has helped me so much in my writing. She does a lot to help students become the best. I enjoyed her class every time we met
She is very smart and good at what she does. she is very helpful and cares about her students. She wants people to learn but to also like the lesson.... great person :)
Professor Grewe is a great professor. I advise you to take the course if your a dedicated student and is willing to get all the work done. Professor Grewe makes sure she knows everybody's name in her class and she also has a sense of humor. I always looked forward in going to her class because we always went into interesting group disscussions.
Professor Grewe is an amazing professor. Her class is a one in a life time opputunity and she incorporated fun with learning which every student will learn to appreciate. Definitely one class I will miss and I cant wait to take another course with Professor Grewe again.
I loved this professor. She was very understanding when it came to difficult situations. She was very helpful when it came to things.
Maybe the biggest waste of time in my life. You go into class, BS for an hour, and she'll let you go (not a minute early). Very unclear with assignments and in-class work, very unorganized. If you don't do any assignments, she'll take them at the end of the term because she's confused herself. So boring, so useless, so easy.
great professor. She gives you time to make up all the assignments. An easy A as long as you do all the work.
She is one of the most amazing professors i ever had. She is fun and makes the class interesting. She gives everyone a second chance to make up the work and is very nice as long as your willing to do your work.
What a wonderful professor. She's extremely sarcastic and funny. I have to say that as a young girl I had a bit of a crush on her. I love her class. Very willing to take late homeworks, just do her work, is all she asks.
I loved her class. She's funny and sarcastic, she is a bit unorganized, though. I did, however, as a young girl did have a huge crush on her. She has a swagger that you don't really expect. Great for first year freshmans who want to ease on into college life!
Disclaimer: Do not take her class if you are not willing to participate, & if you love classes based on discussion you should take her class. I wish she would encourage more people to participate because she doesn't quite lecture, but she is a very easy professor who will push you to improve your writing.
the reason her class may seem easy, is because she explains the material very well.
Even though she explains the material, Pr. Grewe unlike most professors is very opened minded to discussion of symbols and explanations in the text. Even though i am sure she has already covered the material, she doesnt make her answer the only answer. This seems to be a rare quality in professors these days.
She is very nice and at times can be very helpful, but she also gives ridiculousness goals which she doesn't even expect to be completed.
She is very great professor she is very open to discussions and to help her students better understand the work. Her class is only easy because she goes out her way to make sure that you understand the work before she moves on. She is absolutely passionate about literature and knows her stuff. I would def recommend this professor for any LIT crs.
One of the best professors I've had so far ! , she's fun and keeps you interested in even the most boring(est) works of literature. She makes you want to come to class and you actually will learn something. i wish i could take this class again. I suggest you read all of the things she assigns, it will make everything easier.
She is a really helpful professor. Explain the material really good. I have enjyed her class a lot. She makes you think out side of the box. Sometimes she can be rude bt overall she is good
She is one of those people you want to look up too. She is funny, classy. She brings light into the class when it's a bad day. She's a bit strict at times, but most of the time she's smiling and being sarcastic. She's a great English professor. Recommend for every student!
Professor Grewe is one of the coolest funniest Professor I've had so far. Though in the beginning I didn't enjoy her class as much, later on I ended up really liking her class. She's pretty straight forward person so she's quite interesting to listen to. I recommend taking her class.
She is funny and makes class very interesting. The writing assignments given were not difficult. My only issue is that she does not grade weekly assignments so you never know how well you're doing. My advice is to take her class, but ask her periodically how you are doing in your assignments so you can make future improvements.
Great professor. Has a lot of understanding and helps her students no matter what. I personally had a family mishap at the end of the semester and professor Grewe understand unlike some other professors. Love her class and wish she was teaching every class at JJC. You'll have fun in class and well as learn. She's also ambitious and witty. Hate her.
I took Professor Grewe last semester and I can say that was the best decision I made. If you are willing to do the readings and participate I definitely recommend her course. Wish there was more professors like her at john jay!! I give her a A++++++
Professor Grewe has a passion for what she teaches! She teachers her course in a way that allows the student to be open-minded to both side of the argument brought up. The readings are mandatory, its a literature course, but I promise you will learn a lot by reading these material and it ail improve your analyzing skills! TAKE HER A+++
This was one of my favorite classes so far. Every class, there will be a discussion based on(but not limited to)the texts she assigns. Small papers/ readings due every class. If you want to succeed in this class, you must have an opinion and not be afraid to express it!
Great professor, know how to keep the class interesting. If you do the reading and participate you will do great in her class
Best professor ever. Super fun and understanding. Can't wait to take her again.
Professor Grewe is a very fun and interesting teacher. She loves to crack jokes with the students, which makes the class entertaining. She is such an amazing teacher and I would be lucky to have her again.
She's a very respectable professor. Her class isn't hard, but it isn't easy either. You will not regret taking her class. She's clear about everything and if you have any questions, she's more than willing to answer them. I would not mind taking another one of her classes.
My favorite professor hands down !!! Her class is never boring, just make sure you do the homework, participate and you will pass ! No test in the class. Don't feel offended when she picks on you, she's very straight forward. Hilarious hope i can take her again !
I absolutely loved this class and you will, too. You can tell that she loves her job. There's barely any readings and the assignments are a mixture of low-stakes (a couple of paragraphs) essays and 2 or 3 high-stakes essays. These have about 2 drafts beforehand, so you should be fine. I would say that this class is an easy A. TAKE HER! SHE'S GREAT!
Professor Grewe is a great english professor. she get you excited about what you are learning and gets you engaged in classroom discussion. she does give random pop quizzes about books you must read outside of class and so many papers to do but overall, if you put in the work you are bound to get an A. would take her again if i could.
I have received great feedback from her. Since is my first year at John Jay, I am learning how to use APA. recommend for first-year students.
Amazing prof! Go to class, do your homework ON TIME, participate and you will be fine!
No notes given but the lectures are very clear. Make sure you read all the reading that is assigned either from the book or readings posted on Bb. Group discussions are everyday, so be ready. She makes it very clear on the first day that topics and readings may be very graphic and twisted, so if you dont have a stomach for it don't take the class
She is funny, the class starts out a little scary it gets better shes available to contact out of class responds quick to email is funny there is a bit of work to do but that doesn't shorten her worth, she is great.
I honestly think this class should be online bc everything we do is posted to blackboard. she is super nice and cares about her students but i felt like she talked to us like we were in elementary school. lots of the assignments are one page minimum so the workload isnt a lot but there are assignments due every week. its honestly an easy A
EVERYTHING is posted to blackboard. All instructions are there and you MUST post your assignments there. Class was pointless. Should be an online class. its an easy A she's a very lenient grader just annoying that we have to show up to class. you'll know what I mean if you take her. Got an A- bc she dropped my grade for having 4 absences.
Sometimes her lessons are clear but at times they are not so pay close attention to what she says because she grades every single thing and reads them so don't try submitting a whatever assignment when you're tired.
Professor Grewe is an amazing professor. She is very caring and wants all of her students to pass. I took her class for ENG 101&201,both times I was given an A. All work/assignments are updated daily on BB for easy access. There is work due for every class but very minimal.
Great Professor and on point with everything. She is really organized which allow students like me follow the schedule and do not feel overfilled during the semester. Weekly homework and a couple of reasonable quizzes, if you fail them, means you are not paying attention in class or not reading the stories which are not difficult. Not a hard class
Prof. Grewe really cares about her students and one day does not go by without her making a joke. Her class is not hard, just a lot of homework. She is very nice when it comes to grades, so as long as you put the effort to do the work she assigns, it will be an easy class.
Prof. Grewe is a good choice to take for a literature class. For this class, there was A LOT OF WRITING, especially PAPERS! There are three formal papers due and one final paper at the end. Writing assignments on blackboard almost every week. You have to read & be in class to understand the material. She is very organized on blackboard! Take her!
You must get the required books that you will read in class and outside. She has 4 formal papers, along with home works almost every weak, and a quiz once a month approximately. Do all these things, which are very easy as long as you pay attention to the readings. Not the easiest grade for papers but if you are willing to work, she can be great.
Prof. Grewe gives clear & concise criteria for all assignments. If you get dinged, its because you didnt read the syllabus or the instructions. Be prepared to participate in class. It makes understanding the readings easier. There is a lot of reading but its a Lit class. *shrug* Though all books are free on line, you will need to buy the books.
a lot of work to do if you are lazy and can't keep up easily don't take this course with her.
The professors easy honestly. At first you wont understand the grading criteria but once you get the hang of it, its the easiest A you can get. Shes very understanding, so if you ever have a problem with hw or essays shell help you just ask. She even posts hw before hand and class work so theres nothing to be surprised about.
Prof. Grewe is the best professor I had at John Jay. She believes in second chances and is genuinely a nice person. She does give homework everyday but it is never anything stressful.
Amazing professor. While yes she gives homework everyday it isn't anything too crazy. She really helps you out if you ask for it and she will give extensions. She is super nice and sweet as well. She made the transition into college and remote learning pretty easy, and she is always available for 1 on 1s. 10/10
Overall great teacher for college beginners. There are 36 assignments. Half of that is for the final paper and half of THAT is just re-submitting each section after you get peer review and feedback from her. It was annoying with all the hw but completing an essay has never been so easy. It pretty much guarantees a 100 on the final essay.
In the beginning of the semester we read something for every class, but it's not much. She gives a lot of guidance if you just ask, and she's very sweet. There is always going to be an assignment or two due at each class, but until you get into writing papers it isn't too bad
Professor Grewe is by far one of my favorite professors this semester. She is really chill and understanding. Her work in the beginning is easy besides the research paper but she will guide you through the whole thing.
Professor Grewe was a really organized, respectful and funny teacher, Her homework was very straightforward and she was very nice. The research paper for her was the most difficult thing to do but she will help you through it all. There is a lot of writing assignments but she was very helpful. Definitely take her!!
Professor Grewe was an absolute gem. We had to hand in assignments two days a week but it was really easy. It was typically readings and questions at first and towards the end, we did a research paper. She is so helpful though, always there to answer questions, and always wanted to be clear with her assignments. Definetely taking recommend her !!
the class is a lot of work, but she makes up for it. her classes are engaging. she grades work and responds to her emails quickly. she posts announcements every week on blackboard letting you know what is due for that week, along with the zoom link and office hours link. she's a good professor to have, especially for your first semester @ jjay
She is a wonderful professor. There are a lot of assignments but they're not hard! Most of them took time because its summarizing texts but its an easy way to get a good grade. She does give group work but its only one assignment and takes almost no effort. 3-4 papers (2 pg or more) + Final 4 pg paper. Very caring and will respond to emails quickly
This class was great! Professor Grewe was one of the best I have had this semester. She is very understanding and the lectures were not always very long. Almost all of the lectures were group discussion where we talk about home work and peer review our work. Would definitely take one of her classes again :)
I got switched to her towards the end of the semester where I was super behind and she was a godsend. Yes, it was a fair bit of work but everything was so clear and on time that it wasnt too bad. I personally had a contract because I was so far behind and thankfully I didnt have to retake the class. A super understanding prof
Grewe is a sweetheart, she's very caring and gives the best feedback. There is usually 1-2 assignments a day, but they're fairly easy and I usually do them the day of. Not only does she give feedback on everything, it's extensive feedback and she usually uses videos to show you what needs to be fixed. Group assignment (easy) on most days, easy A.
Be prepared for lots of work and reading. Can be a bit of a difficult grader, however do your work and you'll be fine. She may make exceptions for late work. Socially conscious, authentic personality, and a killer hairstyle!
Professor Grewe picked out some great books for the class such as A Long Way Gone, The Cat I Never Named, and Five Little Indians. For the last two papers I just wish there were more prompt options. I did not like that I had to connect the two books to the title of the class, Literature as Witness.
Really organized on Blackboard and detailed feedback on formal paper drafts. Always available by email. Great texts! Definitely recommend this professor!
Great professor for online courses. Organized and always available. She really wants her students to succeed. If you're wiling to put in the work, take her. She will help you with your writing and she has really interesting books.
If you're taking them for a level 300 course, then reconsider because of the mountainous amount of work they assign with strict deadlines. The semester hasn't ended yet, and we are on the 4th formal paper and 16th writing assignment. Other than that, they do provide good feedback on the drafts. Good luck.
*Had her for LIT 375 online* Proff Grewe was truly a great professor. She has a very clear grading criteria & is extremely organized with her work. If you have her online, you'll have 2 assignments due a week and the course had 4 papers and 2 presentations. She gives thorough feedback and every book she assigned was so interesting. Truly loved her!
Assigned a bit too much work, but this professor is great if you are taking an online class! But, be prepared to read a lot in a short amount of time.
Prof. Grewe is amazing. There are a lot of assignments throughout the week that don't follow a schedule, but they're easy to complete. The interesting assignments IMO are reading a novel and then watching the movie to compare them. If you ask for an extension she will give it to you.
She is a good teacher with straightforward rules, all you need to do is read and answer and you'll be fine. She doesn't accept late work so if you take this course be on top of that
if you get a question wrong automatic is a 0, not all the works shows up so you will have to constantly check the course page.
Do not take with this teacher if you want to raise your GPA
Overall it is terrible because she gave me 0 in half assignment if you care about gpa and good grade don't take her class.
If you care about your GPA, DO NOT take this class. she has papers/reading due every 2 days, and she will give you a 0 on most of your assignments. I'm a junior, and this is the worst class I have ever taken. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE . IF YOU HAVE A LIFE OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL THIS CLASS IS NOT FOR YOU. THANK ME LATER.
Prof posts assignments in advance so you can manage your schedule. Lets you resubmit assignments if you get 0. Is always available over email.
She gives good feedback on papers, and is always available. Readings are really good. If you get a 0, it's because you're not doing the reading.
If you are serious about learning and want to read some great texts, take this Professor! She's supportive if you do the work.
This Professor picks great books and films. Very organized online.
We read some good books, really makes you think about issues in today's world. Good feedback on assignments and papers. Always available to help. Will give extension if you request it.
I enjoyed this class because she chose really interesting books, which were dystopian, and she only had weekly homework, but it was not difficult at all, as long as you read, you would know the answers. There weren't exams or quizzes, just 2 papers, and that's all! She even gave extra credit based on an event, either for school, literature-wise!
Professor Grewe was a great professor. She had great books to read along with extra credit highly recommended it.
