is this teacher any good does anyone know?
She's spanish, and hard to understand at first. Her tests are exactly from the notes, but the subject is really hard so the tests are hard as well. A lot of memorization. She's a lot easier than the other microbiology teachers.
She seems to know a lot about the subject but can't teach very well. All she does is reads off of her slides! There is no point in going to lecture, just read on your own. A lot of memorization, she is really nice though.
she cant teach very well and she exactly wat is on the slides...and the exams are half from the notes and half from the book...she does not explain everything...her exams are not that easy...but micro is generally hard anyways...
Puerto Rican with accent. 40-multiple choice question exams. Powerpoint notes. Read the book. Overall, the labs for microbiology are very time-consuming and it doesn't matter who the professor is. Make sure you have the time to put into this class.
She is pretty good. Micro is always tough because the lab blows and there is so much info in the lecture. Just study as much as you can by reading the book and going over her slides. Believe me she is not impossible and she's pretty hot for a professor.

First of all...on a scale of 1-10, her accent is about a 2, so anyone complaining about that has NEVER had a college science class before obviously. Secondly, when an exam only has 40 questions based on 5-7 chapters of microbiology, it's going to cover a wide variety of material. Very knowledgable and fair...what else could you ask for?
Horrible lectures, do not even bother attending. She just reads exactly what is on the slides. Exams and grading is fair just read book and slides. If you need good lectures to do well stay away, but otherwise she is ok.
Shes easy. Just study a lot. Goes over her slides, dont need to go to class just listen to them online, u should read a lil from the book but her lectures are mostly from her slide notes. LAB IS HARD, so is the practical! study A LOT for lab her accent is hard to understand, doesnt make sense half the time. Shes good with emails. (promt)
I wouldn't say she was easy, but she was very helpful. She is a rare breed of professor, that is there to help your mark and not drag you down, very rare indeed. If your willing to do at least an hour of studing each night for her class than you shouldn't expect any lower than a B. I would jump on the opertunity to another class with her.
It's Microbiology... what do you expect? Of course it's going to be hard! Dr. Rodriguez is awesome! Her tests are quite passable if you study. Doing well in lab is a MUST. Read the book. Study her notes. You will be fine.
her exams are not very hard if u study well. All you have to do is read her slides. She is a hard grader because she doesnt give out A- or B+. The only thing really hard about this class is the lab.

Seriously, she assumes that you already know all that stuff, so be prepared to hear "this is very straightforward", "perfect". You need to study about 3 hrs/day to pass her class. I'd recommend her to ppl in bio major. Doesn't reply to emails. Forget about her "optional review day", she doesn't answer questions, she's like "it's in your book."
wow you guys are a bunch of pu__ies. DR. Lopez is a descent prof. Shes fairly new. Yeah she has some detailed ques maybe one or two, but its pretty straight forward. shes willing to help you if you go to her office hours.
This teacher was okay but she is no help. Her lectures are all out of the book so going to class is pointless. And she is not a helpful teacher when it comes to asking questions. Her tests are hard and they are very detailed and pointless to class. Make sure your read her lecture notes and review the book its your only hope. Good Luck
Dr. Lopez is a good professor. Her tests were very fair and her lectures are from the book. Read the book, look at her notes, and just go to lecture. You'll get an A. It's really not that damn difficult.

Lectures were straight out of the book. It was obvious that she was more into microbio than this class. The tests were easy. The class was easy. Not my favorite class.
Terrible. Do not take this class. No exam for my section had an average score greater than 68%. Rodriguez "modifies" the canned exams to be needlessly difficult and her grammer on the exams is very poor. If you are looking for a class with an abberant instructor or if you are a masochist, please take this class. WSU should be ashamed of this course
Never went to lectures. Read the book. Read the powerpoints. Studied for 2 days before the exams. Got a 90.175% (thats an A). Her exam questions tend to be very unclear, and she makes dumb mistakes on them (she claimed ONE MOLECULE of glucose releases 7.3 KILOCALORIES, I tried to explain for 10 minutes that it's actually one MOL).
She is unfair, she doesn't curve any test, her accent is so bad i can't understand nothing in class. And she always says "it's in your book." On top of this she is unfair she gives marks based on her preference.
BY FAR the WORST prof here. She gives a person a B+ for 87.7% and another a B for 87.5%. When you go to complain to her, she draws this MAGICAL LINE of 87.6% being an B+ at the spot. She's **** and plays references. She doesn't care about you, your future or your effort as long as she keeps her job.
WORST TEACHER EVER! Take this class at your local community college and transfer it. You will save on gas money and also on your own sanity. This teacher is crazy. I AM a Biology major- I just am sticking with it because I know that Biology doesn't suck as much as she does. Take PARKIN! Nothing is worth taking this class with Rodriguez-lopez!

You come to class and study the notes before the exam then you should not get less then a B in the class. The hard portion in the class is the Lab Practical exams! There are only a few test questions that are not in the notes, 95% are in the notes. I recommend you go to SI, it is very helpful.
She is not a good teacher at all. She does't lecture,she just reads the slides that are copied word for word from the concept check at the end of the chapters in the book.She said in the syllabus that she will curve based on the 2nd highest grade,but that is happening only if she feel like.If you go to her office,she never has time for the stundent

All the people who say that rodriguez is a good teacher prolly got a B or an A in the class through their own commitment and dedication. She "probably" knows her material but doesnt know how to explain the material. She leaves empty spots in her explanations and therefore you and your future will suffer because of her lack of explanation.
had her for Bio 1500 and 1510. she is not so good of a lecturer, nor does she seem to have a good grasp of the material. However, EVERYTHING on the exams is DIRECTLY from the powerpoints, so if you can spend a day memorizing slides, it is not hard to get an A as i did. i studied the night of the exam and set 2 curves--EASY!
had her for BIO 1510 AND BIO 1500. If you can avoid taking her, i would highly recommend it. If you have to take her, just memorize the material in the book. Lecture is pointless, because she is impossible to understand with her accent and the echo in the hall. She doesn't seem to know the material very well (ie. cant answer questions).

She's not as easy as people say. I got my A on my own and she didn't help at all. I stopped going to lectures after the first exam. Prepare to teach yourself the material. Not so great if you need this information for future use like the MCAT, PCAT, DAT. Also, the PowerPoint slides are not enough, you still need the book.
Do not go to class, it's a waste of time. She takes questions straight from the book so you'll have to memorize every pointless fact. The tests are very unclear, with lots of grammar mistakes etc. Although I liked Rodriguez-Lopez, i don't recommend her class
I took this class over the summer. Her lectures are straight from power point slides; sometimes she'd tell you some particular stuff def will be on the exam when it doesn't show up! READ THE BOOK before you come to lectures. It makes more sense. STRAIGHT CURVE - no A- or B+ Final exam (100 questions) wasn't bad. JUST STUDY!
These people who rated her are just stupid. Bio 2200 is just a hard class. She is an easy teacher. She does read straight from the powerpoint so you don't even have to go to lecture. You use the book alot.
She is the rudest teacher I've met, I strongly recommend that you don't take Mirobiology with her, take it with someone else. Also, her accent is barely understandable. WARNING: DON'T TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES!!

It's funny how people have PhD's and teach at an American university when they can't even write a single sentence without spelling and grammar mistakes. She really needs to mature up and learn to not give the whole class a zero if someone decides to keep the exam to themselves and not hand it in. Dr. Lopez, please stop teaching, really...
What do I think of Dr. Rodriguez?? Rude and determined to fail you no matter what. She is not fit to teach in the States, but should be back in Costa Rico dancing salsa, believe me, that all she does in class. She dances while "explaining", and dances even more when failing everyone. Don't take her class.
dont believe negative reviews she is not that bad& probably better than the alternatives. her accent is strong but can still understand everything she says. Shes helpful &nice if u talk to her. Her exams r not that hard. The ?s r straightforward & her finals r very general. I highly recommend. And for micro shes DEFINITELY BETTER THAN CUNNINGHAM!

Professora Rodriguez es un professora mas dificil. Ella no es interesante. No but for real...Rodriguez- Lopez-Macho-Camacho-Ivelisse is an extremely aggrevating professor. She doesn't have any knowledge about the subject material and she she can't answer the simplest questions. She slaughters common english phrases. Does this rings any bell?

Maria-Ivelisse Rodriguez is the worse teacher for any biology course. her exams are so hard it seem like their written in Spanish, I thought about taking Spanish and changing my name to Jose to pass her course. she is so horrible that she got fired from MSU from her first semester teaching there. if ur taking her make Sure you take Spanish course
Lectures consist of her skimming over PP slides which come from the text but have occasional errors contradicting the book. Exams have many Q's not covered in her slides and are full of grammatical and spelling errors. Some Q's designed to be "tricky" rather than a true test of knowledge. Study the book. Don't expect to learn from the lectures.
everyone who says she is "terrible" and "so hard" simply doesn't want to put in the work or study hard enough. yea she has bad gramatics and exams are worded like****, but she is easier than most other bio profs and exams are NOT hard if you read the book and spend time memorizing the lectures. an A is very achievable.
if you wanna be a doctor dont take this class. if you want to actually get accepted into medical school dont take this class. she teaches in a diff. language and just a straight up ****
She's a very nice lady. If you need help just stay after class or go to her office hours. All you need to study are her powerpoint slides and if you have the study guide for the book some questions are directly from there.
Out of 400 students, only 7 % have As. The lab is far more enjoyable than the lecture - even thought the lab is more work than the lecture (quizzes, lab reports, midterms, practicum!!) Rodriguez exams are tricky and HARD. When students get Ds, she says that it's b/c we are not studying!!! Her exams were far more reasonable in BIO 1500.

Whatever you do do not take this teacher she is rediculously hard and impossible to understand! And to top it all off she is a B***H she wont help you if you ask her for a question and shes a snapper! She is the worst bio teacher I have ever had and her tests have absolutely nothing to do with the lecture or the book avoid her if possible!
She is much more reasonable for Bio 1510. I would not suggest her for Bio 2200 because Micro is her specialty, so she asks crazy statistics and questions that no one would ever get. Even if her answer key is wrong, she won't change it. I really like Micro but she made the class too difficult.
Warning! Do not take this class with her. Very hard to understand unless you "cans understands brokens english"(Puerto Rican style). Would be better suited singing back-up for the movie "West Side Story". Count on reading textbook chp's 10 times each and notes over and over. Oh Yeah, there are at least a hundred pgs of notes per chp.
Terrible. She made the lab section of the class look easy (which it was not). Very unreasonable and it seemed like she went out of her way to put random questions on her exams. Understanding concepts isn't important to her, it is if you can remember some mundane fact she muttered in lecture. Oh and the whole broken English thing is a problem also.

Ok first of all, anyone that can't get atleast a B should not be a science major. This class is a complete joke. I didn't attend lecture and read the book once and was able to easily pull a 4.0. Not to mention the optional final was pretty much just old exam questions. She does have a lot of errors on tests, but nothign bad. Stop complaining.
All you need to do to get an A is read her powerpoint slides. Lecture is pointless because she just reads right off of her own slides. You don't need the book, because she only exams off of her slides. If you can read, there is no reason for you to not get an A. The LAB portion of your grade is the killer (40%). Stay ontop of things in lab!

The worst teacher i ever came across in my life. listen 2 her lectures the night b4 and have your notes memorized study about 3 days for each exam! Bad teacher, deffinitely there are WAY BETTER bio profs at wane state university. Exams questions are pulled out of no where, so going to class/online notes are pretty useless. Just does not know how to teach well. I learned nothing from her... I would rather have a hard teacher and actually learn stuff.

I guess speaking English isn't mandatory for college professors in AMERICA anymore! This instructor doesn't know ANYTHING about teaching or Biology for that matter...No need to attend class (you won't be able to understand her anyway), she reads her Blackboard notes verbatim. I used to love bio before this class! HoRrIbLe accent, couldn't understand her. Not only that, she didn't teach, she READ her slides to you. Class was a waste of time and $. She was rude & condescending. Tests were ridiculous, if you enjoy memorizing 200-300 slides of random information for tests, then maybe you'd like. Take w/ someone else!!
I would rather get my teeth pulled than listen to her talk and teach in class. Obnoxious voice, loud, hard hard accent, couldn't remember the word "beak" in english. Her lectures do not make sense, they are just a bunch of random facts that you have to remember, and she never speaks in full sentences. No flow to her lectures. Take another teach
It's fairly obvious that some of you people just want to be mean because you probably didn't study enough. Her accent is NOTHING compared to most science profs. You wouldn't last 5 seconds in med school. So what if everything is verbatum from the slides and book, doesn't that make it easier? I think so. She is VERY helpful and nice 1 on 1. GROW UP!
It would be nice if this professor bragged less about herself and cared more about the education she is supposed to be providing her students. I had her for both Bio 2200 and 3010. From what I hear about Cunningham and Pile she is great. Her accent isn't horrible...unless you don't come to class and your listening to her on those recordings that sound terrible anyways. She tells you exactly what she wants you to know, her questions come from the notes and online quest. from the book.
This professor would not be as bad if she were teaching an upper level bio course! Instead she is teaching an intro level and claims she does not curve unless the average is less than 70% (our average was in the 50%s for our first test). Her accent is not that bad, but lecture seems pointless for the most part, she just reads off slides.

Going to lecture is a waste of time. Her tests are ok. If you like to memorize about 200-300 slides of notes then go ahead and take the class. I wouldn't take this teacher unless i had to.

Not the best professor. Hates answering questions. Not easy to understand. Dont bother going to class... study the notes and if they don't make sense read over the text book once. The text book is a very easy read and helps alot. I only went to class and labs for the quizzes/exams and got an A.
Probably the worst professor I have ever had. If you plan on learning- shes a NO. Her lecture consist of her reading the slides to you(and butchering the words)-like you cant read them yourself. Not competent enough to explain questins starting with 'how,why,when'. Shes also unavailable during office hours~ she "works from home".
Don't see what the main problem is with this prof. This is my second time having her, and although I failed this corse, I didn't find her to be a problem. Sure she has an accent, but its not that in comprehendable. And its not like she doesn't try to go out of her way in trying to explain things better. Like i said I failed but it was my fault.
This is my second time having Rodriguez and she's not a bad professor. She knows what she's talking about and she tries to make it interesting, however this lecture was ridiculously boring. Her tests are moderate and as long as you read over the chapters in the book and study her notes online, then you'll get a decent grade.

Her accent makes it very hard to understand, plus if you are done with the lab assignment an trying to study for the upcoming quiz she screams at you to "get back to work"

Do not take she is horrible!!! She has you print outlines of each chapter out which is nice to follow but then before exams she says read the outlines. Gives you "important" points and those wont even be on the test. If you have a question her famous response is " we already went over that." She talks to you like you are dumb. her goal for you=Fail
