Knows her stuff and encourages class participation. When I took her, she did not hand out study guides. Tells you your syllibus is your study guide. Does not return papers--for your protection, she says. I took her twice because she was the only instructor for the classes I wanted.
Very poor knowledge of subject matter. She taught subjects that promoted unrelated books rather than the subjects described in the course description.
Slow, plodding class. Boring lectures, boring videos. I wouldn't have thought someone could make the Renaissance age such a boring subject! Only saving grace: she chose a very clear and interesting textbook.
She lacks direction in her lectures. You would learn more by sitting at home and reading the course material, except for the fact there is an attendance policy.
Very unfocused Professor. Does not know how to teach. Avoid. I was very interested in the subject but she ruined it for me.

If you like movies, her classes are pretty cool, and really they're not too hard at all.
Horrible instructor on the medieval culture although very knowledgeable in other areas such as film studies. Does not know how to teach subject matter. Waste of time and money. Ruined future study for me. Avoid if possible unless it is a film class.
Terrible teacher. If you want to learn, don't take her. She didnt lecture a single time, every class period was student presentations. When it wasn't presentations it was movies. She does not teach.
Writing Intensive Course: need to write a 15 page paper w/ 5 page illustrations. 1/2 of paper is due mid semester; she actually just checks it to make sure you are doing it. It helps you in the long-run not to do all 20 pages the night before it's due. Class was either lecture, special speaker or watch a film. I liked the discussions.
Class is interesting and she mixes it up with film and guest lecture. Her exams are open book, but can be tricky. Only complaint is there are only two tests; 60% of grade. Each test has 10 t/f mc questions. You drop a full letter grade on the exam by missing one question.
I took 3 classes with Dr. Jaoudi as an undergrand and enjoyed each one. Once you get used to her teaching style the class is easy. I loved our topic discussions and I liked her as a person as well. I recently went back to see her for a letter of recommendation for grad school which she most graciously wrote. Loved her!!
Pretty laid back class. Each week focused on a different religion but hardly any lectures were given, just movies(actual movies, not boring documentaries)to illustrate core aspects of the religion so class is somewhat interesting. Just 2 open book tests and your term paper. I was not happy about having to take this class but it wasn't bad at all
You get to watch a lot of film/movies. Tests are short so if you mess up on a couple questions- you're screwed. Plan ahead for the 15 page paper. She promotes active and open discussion. I enjoyed the class.
You need an open mind for this class. Need to attend class. Ms. Jaoudi is a very knowledgeable, but hard to understand. If you are a Humanities major, it will help you, otherwise avoid this class, is not for you.
Professor Jaoudi's classes are poorly structured and in my opinion, biased. She seems more interested in using the class as a pulpit for a mystical lifestyle and seems to value "sheep" students who agree with her views which can be prejudicial against other religions at times. Openly asks about your personal views on God in the class.
took her world religion class, her lectures are abstract, mostly movies - few lectures, didn't learn much about the complexities of world religion
SO EASY! I never attended class (it was a religion & film class) and got an A. 2 exams and one final paper due last day of class. Class was interesting, when i attended. Overall a really easy teacher.
Attendance is a must but the class is easy. Plenty of movies and guest speakers and tests are really simple. Tests are open book and open notes so if you cant get an A in the class then there must be something wrong with you. Just pay attention to what she points out in lecture and discussion after the movies. Good class for a writing intensive
Awful Instructor who will not give clear and concise directions on exam times which she hosts online. Syllabus is up for free modification. She is nice but is hazy on her expectations. She will not let you sign role if you are even 5 minutes late and participate in class. She is unyielding, unrealistic and does not communicate very well.
decent class for writing intensive. mostly watch movies that are pretty good or have guest speakers. she doesnt lecture at all. 3 online tests that completely rely on the book which is pretty easy. 1 15 page paper due during finals week. all in all, id choose it again if i could do it over. really not a stressful class.
Online class was ridiculous, 5 or 6 books to read, 3 movies. total waste of time and money. Didn't learn anything in the class, and the exams are subjective and don't evaluate your understanding of the material
This professor is great. Plz quit complaining if you do the work she ask read the book, study youll do great, the exams are online. all you do is watch movies, lecture, and she brings in people to speak. The paper isnt even hard. I did a rough sketch on the paper and then fixed it up and I got 45/50 on it meaning I passed. Shes great
I took her class in Fall 10 It is easy class.i HIGHLY RECCOMEND TAKING HER
I took an online class (spirit and nature) and there was a lost of cool reading but the tests were badly written. I knew the answer and still struggled with choosing what she wanted. Don't recommend her online classes at all.
Do NOT take this class. She doesn't teach anything in the online class. It was all reading, 8 books and watching 3 movies. The tests are horrible and don't test your knowledge of the material. The questions are ridiculous and half of the time make no sense. I studied and worked hard and I'm going to get a C in the class.
Easy class for a WI. 1 big paper due at the end of the semester, 3 exams w/ mostly ?'s from the text and some from films shown in class which she shows a lot of. They're actual movies too, not just those boring info ones. Takes attendance so you have to show up. Definitely recommend her.
Took her online class. Lots of reading and books; also had to watch 3 movies. If you read and watch the movies you'll be fine. There were 3 exams all online and are not cumulative. Overall the exams are easy.
Lots of reading, but the exams didn't have much to do with the readings and she has no guidelines for the exams. Although this was an easy class, she was not helpful at all.
She was non-interactive.She used 5 textbooks. They must be read and you MUST KNOW in detail the content as her "quizes" were only 30 questions. Prior to her class I had a 4.0 not a sloucher, and I eally wanted to learn. Her style of teaching made me try to pick out the things she might test on rather than learning the material. CSUS 1, me zero.
Easy, clear, inspiring. Disregard the negative reviews. If you are a dedicated student, open to learning, and interested to discover the material, she will guide you. This is one of the best courses I've ever taken.
Worst idea I ever had was to take this class. It was online, she never responded to emails or voicemails. You read a ton of books and take 30 question tests online. Stuff on test that isn't covered in reading. No online discussion board, reading guide, or study questions, you are on your own. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!
Great experience for those who want to learn about different spiritual journeys. Complete open to all discussion and presents many great films to illustrate the "ways". lets you explore art for your intensive writing assignments. 100% recommendation
I'm not sure how my grade will be and admittedly, a bit nervous to find out. Online course with very little interaction. But she was wonderful during office hours. She's a very intelligent, accomplished woman. Great material as well. So far, I really like this class.
She is a terrible "teacher". She is useless. I will problably have an A in this class, BUT, she tests on things that aren't supposed to be on tests and then avoids an acutal response when confronted. Check the syllabus, that's all you'll get, I don't know if she checks it b/c she doesn't follow it. Worse she doesn't allow class members to interact.
This class made me depressed. Open book/note exams/final, about 30 questions each, but 300 pages of reading. No study guide, just the syllabus, books, and movies...
Not a difficult class if you know how to work the class. Follow these tips and you'll get a B or higher. 1. Skim the readings. Don't spend hours on the material you just need to skim 2. USE the INDEX! Makes the world of difference when taking tests 3. Read the books that don't have an index so if a question rises you'll know which book to use.
I just finished her HRS 155 online class. I thought the class was very easy because you only do 4 quizzes worth 30 points each and that's it. I didn't read much of the texts. I only skimmed and referenced the index during the quizzes and managed to get a decent final grade. I can't comment much on Dr. Jaoudi because I never interacted with her.
Worst Prof. Easy as long as you teach yourself. Prof doesn't respond to emails. Google the tests.
The class isn't what is on the description with most of the class being dedicated to an ecofeminist viewpoint rather than any religion or traditions. Tests are open book but you can't go back and fix your answers.
I'll be restating previous comments. She does not teach; you simply read the books. The number of books was excessive and several seemed a little kooky to me. The content that she tests you on is mostly irrelevant and can be searched for online, HOWEVER don't let that persuade you to take this class. There are many stupid T/Fs on the tests.
Super easy upper level GE. Lots of reading but just skim the material. Don't bother getting the optional texts, all exams are on the required books. Had to watch & report on a couple of gawd-awful movies but overall pretty good course.
I was told this was going to be an easy class as long as you don't mind reading/skimming through books - DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS unless you are a spiritual weirdo and in touch with your "inner she wolf" and into all that. As someone who has zero interest in Buddhism & other -isms, this class was absolute torture to put time aside for. Good luck.
Course consisted of 4 exams (all online, timed, and open book), that's it! I highly recommend this course to someone who is a self motivated student who needs more units. This course was very easy and if you are a smart and savvy student you can get an A on all of the tests
Well organized online class. HOWEVER she makes you get like 5 books for a 6 week online class. Watched like 4 movies only 2 of them were ever on the tests. NONE of the material you read is asked on the tests. Absolutely insane. I was not interested in the topic at all, however, some of the movies were interesting.
This was a great class. All the tests are open book, which is a huge plus, and I learned a lot about the environment and myself. Films we watched and the assigned readings were great, and Dr Jaoudi was super responsive and helpful when I emailed her (helped work from a low B to an A). Awesome
Amazing, life-changing material. LOVED the readings and films. So glad I signed up for this class as one of my "fun unit-fillers" because not only was it VERY easy but it was mind-blowingly interesting! Online tests made up entire grade and questions are a mixture of all required readingsviewings so keep up on material and don't slack!
4 tests. teacher is no help. Google is your friend. Reading & movies are boring. questions are confusing & hard to understand because of the way she words them. The tests are 30 questions each, so you are able to miss 11 questions total to get an A, which is very hard to do because some of the questions dont make sense. dont take if you want an A
This is a seminar class, so expect to participate almost everyday or get her to notice you. She is always in her office hours and is very easy to talk to. Participation is 50% of your grade. Then you have a presentation and 1 paper each worth 25% of your grade. She doesn't teach but lets the students take over or lets us watch movies and read books
There's a lot of reading to do, but I found some to be interesting. 4 tests. The way some of the test questions that are worded are confusing. And sometimes the questions focus more on a specific section where some/much of the material you read aren't even asked on the test
This class was a great! This class major project inspired me to pursue my graduate studies.
100% online. 4 timed quizzes, 1 essay. Quizzes are straightforward, but can be tricky. It can be an easy A if you do the work and stay ahead of coursework. Feels like you are in a vacuum sometimes. It would be helpful if there were discussion posts with classmates with this subject matter, but there is zero interaction. Overall, good class.
Doesn't teach. Has you watch movies to "get involved in the religion". Expects you to write papers about each religion but does not cover them well in class. Exams are online and easy A's but the papers are 40% of your grade and she doesn't read your entire paper. Only gives feedback on first two pages. Oh and if you have a question don't ask her.
Online class. Reading matter was interesting but it was a burden to read through so much and then take a test that required you to remember random facts in them. Not hard if you read but with such content, I think some sort of discussion assignment would have made it stick with me more.
Professor Jaoudi is a mediocre teacher. The class consists of 4 online exams and 1 essay (5 1/2 pages). The class and content itself is easy, it's the professor who sucks. She does not show up to class and the assignments are rather unclear. Only take this class if you are a self-motivated and dedicated student.
I was apprehensive when I signed up for this class since there were only 4 tests and a paper but I needed it for my degree so I stayed. Big mistake. She is incredibly condescending. Every email I received from her failed to answer any of my questions and was very rude. Do not take this professor. One of the worst I have had at Sac State.
Oh. My. Gosh. I've never watched more movies in a class in my entire life. And then she sent us home to watch online lectures. Could she not have taught those lectures in class? We're only allowed to get 3 absences, I got 4, because this class was unbearable. Easy grader, just impossible to sit through.
She is an amazing person, she loves life and her job. She has a passion for the cinemas shown in class. She demonstrates depth and allows for all students to participate in reflection based off the cinemas shown in class. Do not take this class if you are not open to learning about others way of life. This class is to know and embrace others.
MOVIES- barely any lecture. But was told to watch lectures online. Test questions mostly from book rather than movies. Chapters in book are very lengthy, test asks specifics. Some questions were worded confusingly. She was defensive and roasted me through email when asked about question on exam rather than understanding. Was not expecting that.
I did not heed the warnings, I regret it. I passed the class (yay...) but it was harder than it should have been. No revision allowed on essays and she grades them weirdly, you can be an amazing English major and fail. The tests are ALL weird and mostly True or False and the questions are so strange that no amount of studying helps. Luck is needed
Granted, my classes with Professor Jaoudi were over 15 years ago, but I still remember a lot of lectures she did. She was an amazing professor and her lessons have stood up to the test of time. I can only say that for a small handful of Professors.
Quizzes are based on a random question bank where some questions are not worded well/have spelling errors. The professor is not helpful answering emails, won't correct errors you point out, & I went to office hours & she wasn't there (she didn't inform her students that she would be gone for a whole week)!Miss a few points & your whole grade drops.
She's sweet, nice, and passionate about her job. You mostly watch inspirational movies with good lessons. However, most of your grade are based on 4 tests you'll take online so do well on those. Read the book because she won't mention what's on the test. You'll write one essay, 5 1/2 pages which I think is overdoing it. Easy A if you do the work.
Horrible teacher! Her syllabus is very unclear and when u ask a question about anything she tells you to ready the syllabus. The book you have to write a paper on is written by HER (ridiculous!) and nearly impossible to read interpret. Extremely confusing content. Horrible book and even worse trying to write a ten page essay on!
Professor Jaoudi is a great teacher. We watched movies that were inspiring and made me learn about other cultures/religions. She only grades us by four online tests and a paper due at the end of the semester. Her syllabus is unclear at times. Read the books or else you will not do as well on tests. She is very friendly and open, however.
Professor Jaoudi was a professor who had no idea what she was doing on Canvas. Your grade depends on 4 exams and a 5 and a half page essay. Syllabus was a bit foggy in that she isnt clear in what she expects of the students. It would be nice if she would lay out what she wants in the essay assignment, rather than the student going into it blindly.
You have to write two essays, one paper is on her own book and the second on another of her choosing, which would not be so bad if she did not give a vague topic for the essays that happened to be 10 pages in length. She is not helpful when it comes to concerns about anything test, paper, and her syllabus.
Class is heavily based on the movies. They are fantastic to watch. Then exams correspond to the movies watched. take notes. All exams are online and one 5.5 page paper! Take her!!
Took this class over the summer. No HW just four test's. All tests were based around readings, pre-recorded lectures and 3 films. The pre-recorded lectures were very boring (beware) and two of her books were tough reads. One of the books she wrote herself and the other was called; A Communion of Subjects. These weren't easy or fun reads.
Her exams are a joke. She cant even spell basic words like refrigerator correctly, yet shell incorrectly grade your papers on grammar. If youre English second language, & your English is subpar, dont grade others. Some exam questions are impossible to answer, & are subjective/ambiguous. I was one point from an A in the class; she gave me a B.
Shes not very clear with her instruction. I took her online course and shes horrible. Whenever I ask question she doesnt answer them but ignore and give me a different response only. Dont take her class, super boring. I only took it for an upper devision requirement.
Her online course, you have take quiz and write an essay. But, she is not very informative with her essay. Her syllabus doesn't even provide enough information regarding the course. She's not good at communicating with her students. I would not recommend anyone to take her course. Find a different professor, if you plan on taking an online course.
Do not take this class. She wrote the book herself and half of it doesn't make sense. She is extremely difficult to get ahold of and is not available outside her office hours-even sometimes not available during office hours. Does not offer clear expectations of her students. No extra credit. I could write more but there's a limit-save yourself.
Do NOT take this class. Trust the reviews for this professor. She makes you read a book that she wrote herself, which is confusing as heck and weird asf. Her assignments are not clear and she doesn't interact with her students. Don't risk your grade for this class.
Don't take this class. It is not worth your time or stress. Even if it's online. She is not specific to her grading system. Doesn't allow you to retake a quiz if you miss it. She wrote the book you have to read herself which is weird and confusing.
Whatever you do stay away from this professor. she's conceded and only talks about her life. she believes she knows everything and will never help you on anything. She's too old to be teaching a college course. she barely knows how to send an email. furthermore, her class is run through a website which is useless because she cant use a computer.
Do NOT take this class. She does NOT care about her students! Even though I turned in my essay on time and got confirmation that it was turned in, something happened with the website but I was blamed for the websites mistake and received a zero on my essay and failed. She refused to help me fix the grade and simply told me it was my mistake. BEWARE
You have to pay $70 for access to an online learning platform, that is the same as Canvas. She calls it a "digital textbook," but the text is informal. She also gave me and 9 other students zeros on our final paper for submitting them "incorrectly." When I tried to email her showing my confirmation from the website she didn't care.
walk away now and do not look back!
I was evicted this weekend, and I missed a quiz on Monday, which are roughly 22% of your grade. When I explained, she replied "I'm sorry to hear you have been through a difficult time. You should be able to bring up your grade throughout the semester by doing well on future quizzes and the essay. There are computers on campus for students, fyi."
Do not take! Find any other option! Class was supposed to be about religion, nature and ecology, got a survey course on religions. No discussions about ecological issues. Do not expect feedback or support. Her response to COVID 19 was to say that online classes were not effected and no accommodations were offered.
This class is nothing but silent films, but she asks questions on exams that are "based on lecture" . I only got one lecture in the 8 weeks before the COVID 19 closures went into effect. She added more assignments, changed the essay prompt last minute, even though I tried to stay ahead of the game and got it done two weeks in advance) DO NOT TAKE!!
Pros: Online exams (even before COVID), a lot of movies Cons: Strict on attendance and cellphones, extremely rude to students in front of class, does not let you leave to use restroom or even answer phone call for emergency, lectures have nothing to do with exams, acts like she is above all.
She gave us the essay topic during the 2nd to last week of finals but then gave me a bad grade for my essay because she said she gave us 15 weeks to work on it. Not only that, she makes you buy her book which is a really weird and expensive book. Exams are pretty easy but as a professor she lacks communication. Do not take!!!!!!!!!
I became an Athiest after taking this course because of how bad she is at teaching religion.
Sounds to me like the other students didn't apply themselves enough to succeed smoothly in Dr. Jaoudi's course. I found her Spirit and Nature course to be a nice addition to my academics. She is very kind, professional, and her expectations couldn't be clearer. I would recommend taking her courses; they will round out your education.
The subject itself was interesting but this professor is very picky on her paper. She doesn't take spelling or grammatical errors lightly and you will lose points. If you take her, good luck...
She is uninspiring and lazy. Shes made it up to the top 3 worst teachers ive ever had and is allergic to actually teaching. She has never given a lecture this whole semester and refuses to help any students. If you email her asking any questions she treats you like youre an idiot as if she was 15 years. Her essays are unreasonable as well.
Her online class is organized to a certain extent. Basically, if you follow the syllabus strictly youll be fine with deadline. The material on the other hand is ridiculously confusing!! Her lectures are poor and leave you lost. The only way to make it out of this class alive is to work with classmates and study. Dear god, dont take this course.
This class is all self taught. That is something people will struggled with but I really love the way the class is structured! If you have questions, she is available all the time. You have to be a self motivated student to pass this class and you can not slack off. Do not think that this class will be an easy A it is not!
It's like she wants to make it hard for students on purpose. Gives you all semester with the essay prompts, but keeps the submission page locked until the day it's due. Just asking for people to forget to submit it at that point! Thinks all her students are "cheating" or lying to her. Recycles lectures from a world religions class! Grades hard!
This professor makes the hardest tests and essays vague. Tough grader. I wouldn't recommend this class at all, especially if you have zero interest in religions, FALSE ADVERTISEMENT,
Nice, but doesn't seem to care for the students. Doesn't organize modules well, you have to dig to find exams. "Hang the syllabus up on your wall"-her modules do not contain all the assignments. Exams are taken 4 weeks after that topic has ended (rewrite your own planner; all exam studying can be done 1-2 weeks before it's due, not 4 weeks before)
Tags are sarcastic, except the reading and boy does the reading truly suck. It's really a self-taught class. You'll need a lot of grit to get through this class. The way she organizes the modules suck, syllabus sucks, test questions are weird, and the course text is a book she wrote, also terrible! Avoid if you can, honestly.
- required to buy the textbook she wrote (was a headache to read and barely helped with tests). - lectures are prerecorded with captions. - 7 assignments total, and the tests are HARD. - NO extra credit. - mostly unorganized modules.
Professor's lectures and textbook are a struggle, but with resources like chatGPT and unstuck ai, I was able to ace the class. Definitely take it if you're up for the challenge.
Knocked off 6 points out of 20 from the essay that was assigned over spring break for grammar mistakes. I'd recommend looking elsewhere for that gen ed credit yall! Also, the textbook was written by her. You don't need it except for the essay, to which then you can order it, read the chapter she wants you to read and write about it, then return it.
She was nice and the work was not too heavy. Lectures could be a bit boring if you're not into the subject. I liked her class overall I just didn't like that I had to buy her book. Multiple choice test questions were sometimes random excerpts from her book that were hard to recognize, had to skim through chapter to find answers.
