I'm taking her online class now. She's pretty good and will motivate you if your falling behind. Her midterm was a bit tricky but she still grades very fairly. If you know even a little, you get an A. She is a little anal about class participation tho
Made a simple english class more complicated than it should be...used unrelated subject matter...her aggressive, passive, and arrogant attitude made it a terrible class to be in.
she gives too much that one gets lost. but the thing is you have to catch up with her. she is alert on the class participation and will tell you how many times you participate.
she does help a student when they need it but the way she responds sometimes is not right. she answers back rudely. at times she picks on a person constantly when others have said what you have said. so she doesn't pick on them only some
She likes students from all over the world -- she is from Europe.
Good class.Work load not too bad.
Very helpful.
At first seems strict, but she really isn't. She does give alot of work, but it isn't too difficult. She is very leanient when handing in work late! Not a bad prof.!
Very positive and helpful, I wish their where more teachers like her.
Wow. Teachers of this quality bring BCC up to the level of a GOOD 4 yr. school. She is so thoughtfull and clear, with a sharp understanding of human nature. A rare find indeed. She is also very beatiful for her age.
She is interesting, very strict and comes off as annoying 4 the first couple weeks of class She always forgets about what she assigned for homework but allows you to make up everything-it could b the last week of classes &she would accept a HW assignments
She is very strict and papers, papers, papers and more PAPERS!!!! expect alot of homework after every class... she hands them back to you a million times with a million corrections on them that you can't read. dont miss a class or u will fall way behind!!!!
This professor is horrible. Do not take her for Eng. She will make you write essay over and over again. She will critize you on the way you write and only want you to write the way she writes. She will make you feel that everything you learn previous is incorrect. It's very hard to understand her.
She is okay.. shes a good teacher but gives ALOT of work.. shes good with handing things in late but should of been a history teacher, not writing teacher
She gives you a paper to write and makes you revise it over and over and over again. Yea, she is def. rude to students. The only thing thats a plus is handing in work late she doesnt care.. The work she gives is so boring and childish.. i wouldnt take her again!
Took class online, do the work and you'll get an A. Gives group projects; fairly easy.
If you don't mind writing paper after paper after paper after paper after paper and then revising each paper three to four times then by all means take this class but I'm warning you if you are taking any other classes then stay away from this teacher she will make you do so much work which will take up all of your time all semester.
worst everrr... she's right ur wrong ALWAYs unless ur one of her favorites...i had no life this semester...i got lucky b/c my other profs didn't give homework...she gives a work load of 2+ classes... so if your taking 2 or more classes besides her i suggest you reconsider because ill tell u now... ull have NO LIFE...
I took this professor for Summer Session 1 and she was a very good professor. She was always willing to help in class and office hours. She makes you write alot but hey you could keep rewriting it if you want to get a better grade! her quizes are so easy just memorize them you get all A's! I got a B+ for her class! I recommend you to take her you
I was very overwhelmed when I took this lady...man does she pack the work on! I wrote something every nite for her..no lie! I did learn a lot and it was worth it but man be prepared to write like you have no other class.she is very helpful and kind. She likes you to speak up in class and participate.good luck
She makes you do a lot of wrting for this class but hey, it's a writing class. She offers revision opportunities for a better grade. As long as you do the work (which isn't hard just tedious) you should get an A. My writing skills def improved after taking her class. Best english teacher ever!
This professor is great, yeah she may give a lot of work, but what writing teacher doesn't? Most of the papers are freewriting papers anyway, so it really doesn't take a lot of time. The research paper is fun though. Take her class!
Her class was great fun -- this was one of the best classes I've taken so far. She lets you rewrite the papers and it's OK if you turn them in a bit late. Highly recommended.
I'm transfering out to Rutgers College with a GPA of 4.0, and out of all the Professors at BCC, Ms. Makowiecka ranks in the top three. If you like your Professors to be insightful/concise/fair/objective, she's the one for you. Higly recommended.

she is very helpful, yes you have to do a lot of writting, but hey it's true all english teachers make you write a lot. just be prepared to write. but she is easy going, show some interest and she will like you. easy A for me.
Take her classes. She assigns a lot of reading but its all worth it in the end. The readings are intersting. I took her online and the classes were fun. She was very helpful and available when and if you needed her. Shes a great professor. I enjoyed this class.
Dr. Makowiecka is a highly intelligent person who you can glean tons of great information from. She is just a caring person in general and only wants her students to succeed. Take her class, you'll learn more than you know.
One of the most intelligent women I've ever met, hands down, & one of my all-time favorite professors. I highly reccomend taking one of her classes. On the downside, she assigns a LOT of homework (expect to be writing &/or reading something every night!), but on the upside, she's an easy grader & always manages to make class interesting.
Shes really nice and an easy grader just make sure you do atleast half of the homeworks she gives (yes, she gives it almost every night). She gives you a list of your missing homeworks towards the end of the semester so she tries to help you out in that way though.
No surprise to find so many compliments, Dr M is definetely great. Yes, lots of homework but not impossible. It really worths the try.
I am so happy to read the other comments. I couldn't agree more. Dr. M is a rare gem. She is extremely intelligent, and her topics are facinating! There may be a lot of reading and homework, but through literature, she takes you to places you may never have vistied otherwise...and you will be glad you did! Do yourself a favor and take her!
Took this class online and it is my favorite class. She is very helpful and really cares about her students. If you follow directions and hand in assignments, you should be fine. Not the easiest, but not the harshest teacher. You will learn and have fun!
Omg shes sucha doll! I love her!! Shes very classy, intelligent, and an amazing grader! Shes not hard at all. She tells you exactly whats going to be on the tests(midterm/final). And shes just great! She does give you hw almost every night, but its not held against you if you dont do it. It's just to help you with understanding the material.
Absolutely loved her! She is classy, elegant and extremely smart. She does give alot of homework, but it is all for the right reasons, you'll actually understand everything she is trying to teach you and be able to take her tests with ease then. She teaches far beyond the Lit, her teachings have actually helped me in Sociology, Music,Art& Drama..
She's really nice but gives a lot of hw. If you miss a class you'd be already behind in work. Other than that it wasn't bad. If you don't mind having hw every class, then take her. She's interesting.
One of the best professors at Bergen. She knows a lot just about everything. A lot of homework but it's not difficuilt at all. Strongly recommended class!
Extremely easy class. I took the online class. Even better. She gives homework and the exams are fairly easy.
Took online course... She seems a nice person but there are a lot of readings for a 6 wks session. In this matter I think she should hv shorten the readings little bit. other than that, she seems fine.
I love her!!!! she's someone to admire, shes so smart and extremely classy. You'll learn so much in her class and trust me you'll never forget her. She's the greatest teacher i ever had at bergen!
Professor Makowiecka is the most intellegent professor at Bergen. She really makes you want to learn about the course material. She has so much to say, she's not one of those people who talk non-sense, just to hear herself talk. She's smart, funny, and she makes you want to learn. However, Don't take her if you don't want to learn anything.
I learned many things from her
She is the best proffesor EVER...Even though she has a little bit a Polish accent, she is excellent...I ADORE HER...TAKE HER CLASS,BUT ONLY IF YOU ARE RESPONSABLE AND READY FOR HOMEWORK EVERY CLASS...However, she is friendly and positive and ready if you need extra help...
Took this class online. While there are a lot of readings, most were enjoyable and the class wasn't too hard.
Great professor. Probably read like a thousand or so pages (most likely more, some of the readings were really long). Most were enjoyable, then again there were others like Dante's Inferno that made me want to shoot myself in the foot. 2 term papers 3-5 pages each, mad discussion postings, midterm+final,a powerpoint presentation, tonsss of reading.
Took online. This class would have been much better if she would answer her e-mails once in awhile. It also takes her forever to grade anything. For the most part the class is not a problem. It is A LOT of reading and a lot of required discussion postings. Exams consist of about 7 essay questions.MUST DEVOTE A LOT OF TIME FOR THIS CLASS BE PREPARED
She has her own agenda and is extremely rude and arrogant if you do not agree. She's very nice if you do agree. It's not hard to get an A if you're willing to do a lot of writing and regurgitate her ideas back to her. It's not a class where you can think for yourself. If you're willing to submit to her on everything, you'll be fine.
while i agree that she is very intellegent..she does have "her own agenda" to quote another user. I had to put my beliefs on the back burner to make her happy. Honors work load a bit high but not unmanagable
Funny, extremely helpful, assertive, very intelligent; I took her honors women studies class and she managed to make me feel compassionate about the important issues outside of the class. The class itself has helped improve my writing skills (a lot of writing required) and inspired me to read more. I feel well prepared to enter Columbia Uni.
Took Lit 203 & 204 and BOTH experiences were a pleasure! A lot of reading/writing BUT it's a literature class! lol You DO get to think for yourself she gives you opp. every week to respond to her postings. Lit. IS about interpretation so don't blame her. She is knowledgable and kind in her criticisms; take her, it's worth it.
Easily one of the best professors I've ever had. She's one of the most intelligent women I've ever met and definitely one of the most knowledgeable professors at BCC. She assigns a lot of homework, though, so be warned (seriously -- I had to write papers every night!). But as long as you frequently do your work, you can easily get an A.
Took online 2 much work! 2 much reading! I luv literature, but when u r given 60-page stories to read every week it makes you want to hate it. Students don't only take 1 class/semester. Some of us do work. Stories r very interesting, but work load in this class is super heavy. Only take if u r part time and have a lot of time in ur hands!
Amazing professor! She is such an intellegent, inspirational woman. She is extremely helpful and always willing to work with you. Class is more discussion. Two easy papers and a midterm and final but both are done online.
What a fantastic class! I learned so much from her. Truly, the quality of discussion was impressive. I took her Honors Women's Lit course. A lot of reading, and she forwards things for your "personal edification"(Read them!), but nothing that is not manageable. I am so going to find another class I can take with her before I graduate:)
Ok Prof. Work load, though, is more than any class I've ever had! Even more than other Lit. courses I've taken! She would work with you to help you get through so for this I give her props, but ONLY take her courses if you have A LOT of TIME in your hands! Readings for every single night! 2 Essays, Midterm and Final all on same weeks as readings!
Amazing teacher. I took both online Lit courses with her. She gives a lot of work but she works with you if you owe her the work. Excellent. the work is discussion questions, 2 essays, final and midterm.
Although she works with you , her class is alot of work. There are atleast 5 or more discussion questions to answer a day plus readings. If you have other classes, do not take this class
Knowledgeable and intelligent but has trouble engaging the class and explaining assignments. She often goes on rants regarding her opinion and will not entertain the students' viewpoints. Can come across as harsh in class but is very helpful and flexible. Will let you hand in assignments late and let's you rewrite papers for a better grade.
A fun, smart class! She gives good grades and lets you revise you essays. Take her!
DONT TAKE HER!!!
I took her online class for Literature and she gives way to much for such a class. Most of the reading that she chose wasn't that interesting anyway and there is about 50-90 pages a WEEK to read. Whenever she posts online she often makes simple mistakes like spelling which is rather annoying. She barely posts responses. I wouldn't recommend her.
She gives you a lot of homework and keeps track on every work she assigns. She is generally good to students who do their work. Especially, she allows you to revise every paper;so, you would write at least 3 drafts and finally gets an A for it. overall, its a challenging class, not an easy one.
when i took her class, it was really bad.she gives the assignment too much and you have to memorize the poets because students have to recite the poets in class when we learn the poet.her class is not easy A class. Her class is boring.
Professor Makowiecka gives a lot of homework,it's true but her class is not boring at all.She is very intelligent teacher who wants to learn students as much as possible.Whoever wants to learn something in this college not only get an easy grade should take Professor Makowiecka!Just do all the work and you will be fine. You can correct your essays
Very understanding and considerate professor, Keeps her students motivated and sees to it that everybody is in phase with the lecture, exerts extra effort to provide additional information to facilitate learning, Very approachable and responds to questions promptly. Highly recommend this professor, If your serious and work hard you're sure to pass.
This is not an easy class, but if you work hard and do ALL of the homework then you should be OK. Assigns 2 papers which she lets you revise for a better grade. Her midterm and final are done online and are difficult, but if you do the readings and pay attention in class then you should have no problem. She is demanding but approachable.
Nice professorI Take her class
Much writing, but not much readings. She will go out of her way to help you finish your papers. She will take the journals late, too, and gives very good brades. Don't be scared!.
She gives a lot of work, but she helps you a lot with your essays. Also, even after you hand in your final draft, she gives you a chance to revise it if she sees that there is room for improvement. It was probably one of the hardest classes I ever took at BCC but I came out of the class learning a lot, and also with a new appreciation for writing.
This professor is amazing! Her Honors Class has nothing to envy to a 4-year school class. If you like to do your work, learn and participate in an excellent class, this is the class for you! She gives you enough opportunities to review your essays and teaches you excellent writing techniques. Take her if you have the chance!
The course might have been more difficult under a different professor; Professor very consistently assigns work and she begins each class by checking on papers; If you have a late assignment, you will not be scolded! Many students complain about the amount of work -- written assignments serve as a workshop and is a complement to class discussion.
This professor is one of the best at Bergen. I took her online classes and unlike some other professors I have taken, she actually engages in the online discussions. Take this class if want to learn. She is not only very knowledgable and worldly but will help you with anything you need.
Professor Makowiecka may be nice and give you many chances to hand in assignments and revisions of essays, but she assigns several assignments every class! It's like she thinks her class is the only class we're taking! Be prepared to be read a lot, memorize 40+ vocab words per vocab quiz, and RECITE poems in front of the class! Have fun!
Professor M is very nice and is willing to help during her office hours. However, she goes off topic in every class. I didn't learn much from the class or her. I was pretty disappointed since it was an honors class. Just read the assignments prior to class, and participate before she picks on you.
Professor Makowiecka is very helpful with essays and questions that you may have. Prepare for lots of homework including reading, journals, essays and a research paper. She makes you work for your A.
Find out what she wants and do exactly that. Don't stray too far from her outline and write topics based on the syllabus and lectures. The professor is helpful, but goes in too many directions and doesn't provide enough focus on the important papers. Expect 40+ vocab quizzes and much writing. Professor is lenient with homework, but demanding.
Okay, so I like her as a person but as a teacher, Professor Makowiecka wouldn't be my first choice. She gives a lot of tedious homework assignments that feel pointless, and she only gives them a check. The only things that matter are 4 essays and the research paper. She lets you revise each two times to get the highest grade and is crazy intelligent
Professor M's class by far is the hardest, yet fulfilling and rewarding class I've ever taken in BCC. She gives tons of homeworks varying to reaction papers, analysis, vocabulary, and short answer questions. She also help us in terms of public speaking. You'll not regret taking her, put effort into it and it'll be worth it at the end.
Gives a LOT of work for just a regular class. Memorizing poems, essays pretty much every week, and usually 2/3 homework assignments every class. She is lenient with due dates for homework. In class essays are pretty easy, quizzes are also easy, amount of work is just annoying and she'll make you work the A.
She has to be the hardest professor I've ever had. If you're planning on taking her 201 class I suggest you don't, find another professor.
Great online experience-the professor answered your emails very quickly and addressed any concerns or questions. Was always looking out for the best of her students. Very understanding of my recent medical/dental issues
Not bad for an online class, she gives out her personal phone number so easy to contact. Lets you revise essays for a better grade. Midterm and Final were decently easy. Every week you have to respond to the reading (most stories she posts or you can easily find online.
Dr. Makowiecka conveyed the course material in a clear manner with in depth explanations if requested. This approach reminds me of an old saying, "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough." I can't imagine that one student walked away unchanged in their critical approach to literature as well as their writing style.
She issues more work to supposedly be covered in the weeks to come but you do not hear of 50% of that next class. Could be more organized in spelling out what's important and what's not. Gives too much work it's every student's nightmare!
prepare to have a paper every week, memorize and recite a poem, and have a vocab quiz. Gives a lot of homework and you have forum questions for every poem/story. she' gives an excessive amount of work, but she's really smart and sometimes funny. she knows you're capable of a lot if you're in an honors class, so she will definitely push you
Did not like at all. Way too much work. A lot of essays, definitely would not take again.
Professor Makowiecka is a very highly organized person! Her lectures are not boring, instead they are actually interesting! Learned a lot in this course and expanded my knowledge. I you do all the work she asks for, you will easily pass her class. Highly recommend her for those who actually want to learn!
This professor gave a reasonable amount of assignments and always gave feedback so you could adjust how you were doing if necessary. You can tell that she really enjoys her subject matters and it draws you in.
She was nice and fair and responds quick to any email however, prepare to bust your chops in her class she will assign you really difficult readings and discussions she does recognize effort and contacting her. YouTube and lots of enotes saved my grade in her class because her reading were very very long best of luck.
I took her online class it was brutal however, the readings she gives are interested and mostly found on YouTube and her is made for a motivated person not a lazy get by people she will make you work for it. However, just read everything she gives you and you will pass. She also responds very quickly for any questions you may have and easy grader.
She is very nice and she responds very quickly however, get ready to work because she gives you so much to read but most of the stories are located on YouTube for you to hear and get ready to write a lot of papers but she is very forgiving when it comes to grading. This class is made for motivated people not lazy get by students.
She made us comfortable within our work, but also was strict as a mother would be in the form of tough love. She really does not play around but if you follow her advice for work and do her work, you really won't have a problem. She's also really funny ... kinda... but it's the kind of mom jokes that make you more comfortable in such hard class.
I can't like, the reading really hurt me and I love to read... some readings were extremely long and that's where I had trouble... you have to participate in the forum but not required with others so that's good. As long as you give your opinion each week you will be good and you will have the midterm and final are similar, extra credit also given!
She started as an OK professor, but I noticed that she dumps a lot of petty assignments on you within a short time, especially during the poetry segment of the class. I once had to read and answer questions for six poems within a week. She was also super obsessed with feminism, and it became tiresome after a while, as I noticed it in many lessons.
Hands down one of the best professors at BCC. She gives a lot of assignments but most are very easy for honors students. Expect to learn about culture, art, music, language, literature, and poetry in this class. Seriously, you will be changed for the better after this class as Dr.M. challenges you to think about your place in the world.
Professor Makowiecka is a great professor, in that she actually cares about her job. I took her online class, and LEARNED from it, unlike most online classes at bergen. there is a lot of work/reading for an online GE class at a community college, but it's really not that bad. she wants you to succeed and she leaves feedback. 100% quality class
Every week there is a paper. There is A LOT of reading assignments so be prepared. She has a lot of typos and her class on moodle is not organized AT ALL. She is very caring and she will give you more time if you missed any assignments or papers. Just know that it will be stressful for a 3 credit course.
Highly recommended
She gave us a lot of homework, and sometimes I never wanted to do them. I took her as an asynchronous class, so all the assignments were online which made it much easier than in person. There were no tests. Our class was essay based. Easy class, Easy essay, Easy A! For all the bad reviews, just take her online, it's so much simpler.
I highly recommend this professor for her responsiveness, professionalism, and very helpful feedback. Under her guidance, my writing skills improved drastically. She truly cares about her students' progress and creates a supportive environment. Also, she has a great sense of humor! I plan to take other courses with her in the next semester.
Dr. Makowiecka is an incredible professor who is passionate about their job and encourages students to feel the same about the material. Dr. M has inspired myself and other students to pursue leadership positions and campus and will be forever grateful for her impact on my academic career!
She's an amazing teacher, she helped me learn how to write really good essays! I'd recommend her to anyone!
Assign weekly reading and discussion posts. Two essays about the novels you picked up from the list and three exams with open-ended questions. Generally, it isn't a heavy class and she is an easy grader
This professor is for English lovers. She will encourage you to run the material through yourself before writing, she wants you to see yourself in the literature and connect to it. When I saw the layout of the course, I was intimidated by multiple assignments each week, but her reasonable feedback & personal care made the work fulfilling.
she is the worst teacher i ever had
She is the worst professor. She just makes you write essay after essay. I didn't learn anything in her class and she is very rude and will make you look bad in front of the entire class. If you take her, you must stay on top of every single assignment. Plus, she is very difficult to understand.
Takes her a whole semester to grade papers.
"BEWARE" Choose a different professor, if you are taking more then two classes. She over loads the class with to much homework. what she expects from you is what you can learn later in a literature class. I would not recommend taking her class if you want to maintain your GPA.
The weekly forum discussions can pile up if you don't manage your time well. Dr. Makowiecka is easily one of my favorite professors I've had so far. Even though I missed a few classes, it was easy to catch up and I didn't feel as if I was falling behind. She provides all resources, so you don't NEED the physical book.
Great professor. The amount of weekly work could be overwhelming, but she is flexible with deadlines. With the hybrid classes she doesn't care too much about attendances, yet it is easier to learn in class when you're in person. As long as you don't lose interests, you will learn a lot of interesting things from her.
I went into the class unprepared for the 1/2 semester pacing. At first, it shook me a little, but after the first couple of weeks, it became manageable. The forum assignments are very useful for brainstorming before writing essays. Her essay feedback was very useful, and grading was more than fair on every occasion.
Doesn't take note that most of us have work and other classes. Feels like going back in high school how she treats most of her homeworks, quizzes, and essays. I get that taking an online course would mean works needs to be handed in, but it's just way too much...
Dr. M is great! Will take her again!
I had a really good experience in this class and I would highly recommend it. I learned a lot about literature and about myself during class discussions where we could talk about the stories and how they relate to our lives!
I would not take this professor as an online professor. She is not very clear with her instructions on assignments and she does not respond to emails very quickly. She tells you to email her for help but then will not respond to you; or she will send an email telling you what assignments are sue but won't post them in the Canvas, do not take her..
Dr. Makowiecka is a very knowledgeable professor. Most of the course is discussion/analysis-based, with room for varying perspectives and opinions. She's been extremely supportive and understanding with students, with relatable references and easy-to-follow lectures & fairly-graded coursework.
This course was taken online. Dr. Makowiecka was very kind and understanding. She is very clear about assignments. Participation was definitely a must! Gives plenty of time to complete homework assignments and is a very good grader. She is very dedicated and truly wants students to succeed.
This course was taken online. Dr.Makowiecka is an amazing professor who truly just wants all her students to succeed. She is very caring and kind. Participation definitely matters as well as completing assignments. She is a very good grader, and gives plenty of time to complete assignments. Definitely recommend her as a professor!
This professor is engaging, though her class does come with a heavy workload. With helpful feedback and a supportive environment, I improved my writing skills. Using unstuck AI and staying on top of the readings were key to success.
Best literature professor I've had in Bergen! She genuinely cares about her students' success and is always very available. Her approach to teaching is super engaging and interesting. While her comments can feel a little harsh at times, she's fair and reasonable.
Get ready to complete 2-3 forums a week, with several readings throughout the week. 3 quizzes, 2 timed essays (lockdown browser), 2 regular revised essays and research paper (9 pages long). She grades a day or two after you submit your HW and gives good feedback.
Between the reading material provided and the assignments, this course was a lot of work. Grading felt inconsistent.
