Very good teach, few homework, friendly, a lot of help. IF you follow her instrution, you can easily get a good grade.

She is easy, and love to help out. She likes to talk about the things not related to class, so waste some time. i dont like the style that she correct essay. But overall, she is a good teacher,at least she knows what to do, and how to do.

Great teacher! she gives less homework and reviews tests before taking and make them easy! She makes class more exciting.

Believe or not,today i saw her in capous. Attending her class, u'll read a boring novel "The Pearl" but u can search the summer online,haha easy pass

most of the time, you will be drenched with homework but you do learn alot because of it. It wasn't that bad of a class and quizes are not that hard. Just do your homework and you'll get a good grade.

She is a great teacher/friend to talk about whatever you want. She is great. but a little bit hard in grading but you will learn so many new materials at the end. ( In other linc esl courses, you won't learn anything beileve me, u have to take hard instructors in order to be agood writer for 1A.)

I took her ESL24 last quarter, I think she is not as hard as other people said. She is clear about what she is teaching. I felt I did learn something from her. Only 3 essays and no final. Don't be afraid of taking her class.

A great teacher. Very energetic and easy to communicate with. We had a lot of discussions before essay and it helped. grade hard in the begining, but later helps a lot and gives a good grade.Don't grop her class if you got a bed grade at first, just ask her for advise and do the next essay the way she wants it. you will be rewarded.

If you took a ESL 5, take her.. she likes those who came from ESL 5... most of time she will finish the class earlier!!(you don't have to sit down 2 hours 10 min!).. And it is good to have a grammar tutor.. one points are taken off every 2 grammer errors!!

She is really nice. Her class was not easy but not so hard. She gave me some extra credits. I also took her ESL class which was really helpful class among ESL classes. There will be no non-native class for EWRT 1A, so take her class before she will stop teachin EWRT 1A class.

Very devoted and helpful teacher. She gave me a strong background of writing. She set up a good example of strong will and optimism. If you want to be a good writer, besides knowing how to write an essay, you must own a rich source of experience for your own. I always received the As when I took her class, then I moved to EWRT1A and I got an A too.

She is a really great teacher that i have ever met. every class she motivates you to study English hard. she ,of course, empasizes how to start an essay and realizes your mistakes on your writings. if you are a weak writer, take her. She will help you ! ! Good luck ! ! !

She is a nice person, but an ok instructor. She does repeat herself a lot. However, I dont like her essay format at the things and the guidlines. There are better English teachers out there, but she is not a bad option if the better ones aren't available.

You can learn to write essays from her. She is hardworking. That's mean you have to work a lot too! You can get a B if your english is not bad. Speak more in class to get an A.

Maria is the BEST teacher ever. She's very kind, helpful, and funny. You will learn a lot from her. Although, she is a bit strict but it's for your own good. I recommend any of her classes! Really great teacher.

Maria is the nicest ESL professor at De Anza. Her lectures are very simple, clear, and easy to understand. If you want to know how to make your essay brilliant, take ESL 273 or ESL 5 with her. She can be challenging, but at the end, your English will be improved.

SHE IS VERY HARD. But at the same time, you will learn ALOT. Take meaning of "A lot" seriously, because you will need the skills that you learn from her class in the future. If you choose to find EASY A, you will pay for it later. Take her class if you really want to LEARN. If you try hard, you will pass. But it is true that she is not easy one.

She is so hard. she cut lot of point on reading assignment but her class is fun and u could learn something. Choose P or NP for this class.For midterm, she gave us a study guide and there was lot of vocabulary you have to memorize, but it is helpful. Try your best then you will pass this class.

I dunno why these people underrate her but based from my experience she is the most approachable teacher, she admits she is not easy but you will learn a lot from her. You can choose easy teachers but good luck to you guys if you can survive the next course you will take.

Maria is a fantastic and experienced professor. I took ESL 261 and ESL272 with her. She is not an easy person (so be ready for it), but she is very kind and inspirational! You will learn a lot at her class; however, you should work really hard to get an A. Take her if you goal is to improve your English!

She is one of the best teachers that I've ever taken. 1. She is surely an organized person. Her calender was very clear with all the work that you need to do to. 2. You will know exactly what will be in tests, quizes, but you need to put an effort on it. 3. The book was really helpful; it was all about the information that an ESL student needs.

She is amazing, her class is not easy but that is a good thing! Very Organized so you know what to expect from day one, if you are also organized you will be able to pass the class very easily, participate a lot don't be shy!

Maria is very organized, so you know exactly what you need to do for every class. She also let you know ahead what will be in the tests, so you can prepare. However, there are always a lot of words that you need to memorize, you are also required to read a long novel and memorize all details for quizzes. She gives out at least 1 quizz a week.

Make sure you are in time and do your homework. If you are hard working and good in memorizing vocab, you will be good. Spend time on your work and you will get A pretty easily. Otherwise, it could be lots of work for busy student.

She is really good & tough teacher. If you are preparing for tough classes like EWR 1A, She's the best teacher who can prepare you with intensive vocabulary, reading and writing exercises. Therefore, if you believe in your self, do not hesitate to take her class. However, it's a bit stretch for busy students as it requires a lot of work.

I took her ESL272 during summer quarter, so we had a lot of reading and homework needed to be done. It was really hard, but she gave a lot of help! She replied to my emails very quickly, even over the weekend. We can actually learn something, so we were prepared to move to the next level.

YOU SHOULD TAKE MARIA! Maria is caring for their students. I learn a lot from her. She does have quizzes every week, but all you need to do is listen and pay attention to her and you will breeze through all of them flawlessly. She will help you with everything you asked on her, even in emails. Spoiler alert, Time Management is key for your success.

She's a gem. Definitely makes you work hard for your grade, but she always gives great feedback and is extremely caring.

Class was boring and most of the meeting were spent talking about stuff irrelevant to the class. Weekly article discussion and quiz about the book, 1 midterm, 1 final, and as long as you listen to the audios and what Maria says in class, it will be a breeze. But she is a very caring teacher and amazing person, I loved her!

It is true that she repeats alot and tough grader. But she helps alot and gives lots of hint for quizzes and exams. If you just follow her directions and study hard, you can get an A. As I find bad ratings about her here, i was worried a little bit but she was better than I expected. If you are ready to study and learn, take her. She is good

If you want to actually learn, take her. I wish all professor were like her. I don't know about other ESL classes, but in ESL272 she helps students A LOT. If you listen to all her audios, where she basically gives you the answers for EVERYTHING (quizzes, summaries, midterms etc..) you can't fail. Love her.

I took ESL 272 and 273 with Maria. I found that she is indeed a strict professor, and she never provides extra credits. But she has a clear structure for her students to follow. If her instruction makes you confused, just ask her in class, and she will be very happy to explain it again and discuss it with you. She checked her email every second!
