She makes psych very easy to learn. She throws out many analogies to make things easier to understand. Attendance is crucial. She gives out a possible 5 extra bonus points for each test. The class is an easy A, and you learn so much.
Perser is the Easiest teacher every ... you can not fail unless u dont show up! She is really good at explaning everything... I loved this class
She's one of the best professors at Pierce! I loved her! She goes over everything she wants you to know for the exams, her lectures are not boring at all, and you really learn the material. Gives lots of extra credit and gives you points for being in class. In-class work is very helpful also. She's very sweet and wants everyone to do well!
Very good teacher, teaches everything you need to know, and goes at a slow pace for all the slowpokes. Doesn't go off topic!! Finally a professor that does teach! Hallelujah (Textbook is expensive :-( )
awsome teacher. she is so sweet and helpful. she really wants to teach and for your success. awsome would def. take her again! very easy and clear.
Prof. Perser is the best and awesome techer in Pierce!!She gives lots and lots of extra credits, and so helpful and clear. you should take her if you want an A and learn about statistics.
Teaches very well. Doesn't give the extra credit anymore, but does give extra credit on her quizzes. WANTS TO TEACH YOU! GREAT TEACHERRRRR!!!
She is a very sweet lady. Very easy class, open note, open book, open neighbor. Highly recommend her.
My GOD this class is easy. Insanely easy- they don't allow enough characters on these ratings to describe the easiness of this class. But the funny thing was you have to know the material for the tests, and she taught it well. She'll spend as much time as you need till the class gets it. Not a bad professor at all.
She made Statistics a bearable subject for me, which is saying a LOT. I hate math. Now, I might even go as far as to say that I kind of like it. Thanks Dr. Perser!
perser wasnt the hardest teacher, but she is not clear and makes the class seem and sound 100 times harder then it is. She purposley makes everything hard but if you pay attention and study a lot, you will do fine. Personally i really dislike her and so does all her other students that i had her class with. i wouldnt recommend truthfully shes a bit
Great teacher, took her class in the summer and although it was a lot of information she made the content clear and easy to learn. I would recommend her. Majority of the class fot A's and B's.
She is i really good teacher in that she teaches for the tests. there are no suprises come test day. Attendance is not mandatory, but the in class assignments are worth a lot of points so you shouldnt miss them. As long as you do all the homework and all the classwork and do decently on the tests, its an easy A.
Prof. Perser is a great teacher! She is pleasant, and extremely helpful. Take notes in class, and participate in class! She provides study guides for tests, and attendance is a must!
Being professor perser's student was a pleasure. She really enjoys teaching, and educating her students. I wish the class was longer. The class was so fun, I'd lose track of time. This class is an esay A, only if you pay attention in class. TAKE HER!!! You'll enjoy this class and love going.
I loved Prof. Perser's class! I would recommend it to anyone. I am horrible at all math. She explains everything & why you do it. She is very nice. Read your book carefully, attend class, take notes, & ask questions. The only hitch is that her final is really hard! I got 35.5 on the final & got an A in the class. She gives lots of extra credit.
This professor knows how to teach stats and make it easy to understand. I used to hate stats and now I like it. She is the best stats professor. I definitely recommend her!!
She is a really nice person, but I didn't like her teaching style. She isn't very clear in her lectures, and doesn't give back tests or homework. She assumes that you attend a study group to learn the material. Even though she is a psych prof. her class really isn't for psych majors.
good teacher. lots of notes and inclass assignments. about 7 quizes and a SUPER HARD FINAL. youll learn if you stay awake which is hard to do with her boring a** lectures so good luck:p
Good lecturer who makes the class interesting; however she is highly disorganized. Does not keep deadlines or schedules. Cannot keep class on topic and spends far to much time talking about family. Requires multiple essays which are never returned or graded. No feedback provided. Would be an excellent instructor if she could keep to schedule!
Seems like nice person at firts. If you get on bad side she will snaps at you. No feedback on essays ever but grades hard on them anyway. Multiple choice tests. very argumentative. Do not take if you can avoid. Argue with whole class about one thing and made it seem we gangd on her. and it was stupid thign. Must be at clas 4 inclass activity.
If you ask her questions, she will give you an attitude. Stay away from her.
She is a wonderful prof. I wasn't really interested but her passion for the material made me interested. Everything is so crystal clear, she had study guides for every exam after our first week including our final!--Read your textbook and study her guides and you will ace her class. In the mean time she is extremely helpful, nice, & funny.
She is a great professor. Although I do get tired sometimes, her class is usually interesting. It seems as though every time I want to head home early and sleep, the class gets way better when i force myself to stay :)
She was very helpful. I didn't read the book at first and failed the first two tests. After that I began to read and finished her class with a 99%. Her study guides are extremely useful.
Not such a hard class unless she has to rush. If she does, she is reasonable when it comes to the quiz (example: open book/notes/friend quizzes). Subject will get complex but she does explain things well. No midterm, 1 final and 6-8 quizzes of about 30 questions. Book is needed for in class & HW. Overall, not a bad professor.
yay. :) Professor Perser is delightful, she always answers my questions and im always suprised how when i think she isn't going to say something she says it!!!
First time on her own. Class was fun, study guides for tests, short essay questions, and no almost no homework. She want you to read. It was fun try taking her class you'll like it.
attendance is not mandatory. however, if you are absent, you might miss out on some in class easy points. Class was fairly easy if you just listen to the lecture. Interesting. Very good teacher overall. gives out a study guide for every test and drops the lowest test score.
Easy Notes, Easy Tests, Easy Final, Always helpful, will reply to e-mails on time with full explanations!! best pysch professor ever; nice and down to earth -
Such a great teacher. She is always exciting and in a good mood! for her tests make sure you do her study guide it helps SO MUCH. show up to class, do hw, and the extra credit. I got an A :)
a very enthusiastic, jolly, interesting, and amazing person. Take her, do what she assigns you to do, take good notes and you'll glide through the class. All multiple choice tests with 2 short essay questions in each test(Answers upto 5 lines, which is nothing). YOu will learn a lot because she is a really nice professor! Loved taking her!
Professor Perser is one of the nicest professors I have had ever at Pierce. Her class is based on exams with very short essays. The actual essay questions for the exam are usually on the study guide so if essays are not your thing you will gave time to write it before the exam. She is easy, just do your study guide and reading and you will do fine
Very nice woman, but does seem to have way too much on her plate. Class would often get carried away on some tangent, which I would say was the only problem. She was very clear with what she expected. Definitely an easy A if you apply yourself.
She is a nice teacher, but some of the conversations in class got carried away and offensive, especially for the gay community. It was fun making people look like ignorant and close minded fools though. The tests were okay, if you study and over all the she was cool.
do not take her. worst professor ever. trust me.
Nice person, but not a good professor. Don't really go through the textbook. every ass. she said was an optional became a required ass. Happy classes, but only learn a little.
Second semester with Professor Perser. She is nice, and helpful professor. She does tell you to look at the syllabus though for work questions. She is easy as long as you read the book before hand. No study guides and there is alot of material for 3 exams and the final. Replaces worst score with the score from the final. Overall great professor.
This woman was all over the place. Her lectures were discussions and she tried to teach by writing on the board in the beginning of the semester but even that was messy. I read the book on my own since that's what the tests are based on. So if you understand the book, you'll do fine in her class. Drops lowest test score... Got an A
Not fair instructor at all for what she mentioned on her syllabus on the 1st day of class. I did not learn anything in this class. Terrible!!
What an irony for a critical thinking teacher to be such a biased person. First of all, she totally criticizes homosexuals. She says that homosexuality is a psychological disorder, which is not true. Secondly, don't even make comments about gun control because she ferociously supports a side, i won't say which one, but if you oppose her you fail.
My history teacher Mr. Walsh said: "if someone says he or she is a nice person, he or she is probably the most stinking hypocrite that ever breathed. On the first half of semester, she'll be very nice. Then, you'l see the most selfish lady you've ever seen. We talked with the hiring committee and they said they will review Ms. Perser competency
For God sake stay away. Her teaching style has an extremely poor quality. You'll never see an exam back. How are we supposed to fix our errors ?. Exams will include material never studied. She's a joke i can assure that to the 1000%
Amazing!
She's an OK instructor. Missed a couple classes but was still able to pull through. If you do miss a class, make sure you get the notes from a classmate.. some test questions come from the lectures. Did not read the chapters thoroughly..just skimmed through main points. All in all, she was chill..
Aced all of my tests except the final (beware, it is cumulative), so I didn't pass. If u decide to take her, it's better u know that it's more of a hybrid class than a purely on-campus 1, despite how it is listed in the schedule. Expect technical stuff like online deadlines 4 weekly reflection papers only accepted by attaching certain file formats.
The final is really difficult! It's 100 questions & it's accumulative. The final is 50 percent of your grade. If you're not great with accumulative tests then this class is not for you because if you fail the final, you fail the class.
She is AWFUL. She is all over the place and does not explain enough to help ready her students for her exams. No study guides. She tells you to figure what what is important in the chapter and to study that. DO NOT TAKE HER. I regret taking her.
She is easy going and funny. Sometimes she gives openbook exams. However she is not organized . She is al over the place. Her exams are way harder than what she does in class . I mostly get As in my classes, i believe this one can ruin my gpa.
She is a good person but not a good teacher. (not in Stat) It looks like she doesn't know what is going on. Her test are too long. I got an A but I studied a lot. It was not a hard class but I really didn't know what I was doing!
Such a bubbly and caring proffessor. I am really bad at math and was scare to take it over the summer but I passed. Study hard! Test are a bit hard! She lets you bring a note card to help you.
I really disliked this teacher she tries to be funny and is all over the place. Stats is a difficult subject as it is and when i tried asking for clarity on the test she just made me feel stupid. I'm so thankful I dropped her class and picked a better teacher
I took her for Psychology 1 and i enjoyed the way she taught. I hardly showed up and still managed to pass the class with just the online book. Test were sort of hard but the papers at the end of the semester helped me to get a B
She's not a bad professor. I wouldn't say it's an easy class but if you put an effort, it would give a fine result. Her extra credits are hidden inside her tests. She has a bubbly personality but she could be tough as well. She could get all over the place sometimes but she's alright.
Professor Perser was a wonderful, kind person. She always started the class off with a smile, considering the fact that it was a morning class. Although the course work was really challenging, she made it as simple as possible, going through the lecture in a smooth, comprehensible way.
By the end of the semester, one third the class dropped. The final exam is a maker or barker. If you don't pass the final, you wont pass the class. The final will count twice if you scored low on anyone of the other three exams, it will replace that score, but good luck, as the final is essentially the last few chapters of the book. Don't recommend
I don't suggest anyone to take her. She briefly talks about the chapters and I personally learned more from the online quizzes than from her. Her grading is not very fair although if you talk to her she will help you out.
She is nice but terrible with feedback and a very tough grader. Don't recommend and you don't really learn from her. you'll learn more from the online homework than from her personally.
Attendance is key, if you're attending lecture as you should you'll do well in her quizzes. She's very understanding but don't take advantage.
I know people usually read these comments and when they say "Stay Away" it can be brushed off really easily, but let me say that the last 2 weeks of taking this course and what followed were some of the most stress inducing and evil 2 weeks I had ever experienced. She literally accused a 1/3rd of the class of plagiarism with very little evidence.
Attend the lectures, do the hw, ask the stupidest questions possible she will help you!! Shes amazing I am someone who is bad at math and somehow putting in the work and viewing her lectures helped me get a B (never would I have thought) this was also my first time that I didnt have to retake a math class! I passed stats the first time thanks MP
I was very anxious taking stats as I hate math and suck at it so I was very nervous especially with how the professor was gonna be. However, she was such a great teacher and made you feel as there are no dumb questions and will repeat anything and you can message her about any questions at all! She also let us retake our tests and gave extra credit
HATE math but she is very understanding & did zoom meetings to help students. Has a lot of video lectures, take notes, practice quizzes, sample exams, real exams. The exams are tough but study and she puts calculation problems based off diff hypothesis tests u have to show work. Lags on grades
Professor Perser did really care about her students and their success, but I do think that certain assignments were some of the most difficult I've ever had. She does allow you to resubmit until you receive full credit, but they were still challenging nonetheless as the feedback can be unclear sometimes. A good professor, but her class is hard.
Professor Perser had an "ungrading policy" this semester where you present your earned grade at the end of the semester, and she agrees or disagrees with you based on your work in the course. I highly recommend avoiding this professor. Soft deadlines, not great for students that struggle with deadlines and self teaching. Just do not take. STRESS!
She used an "ungrading policy," so no percentages. she would grade things as complete or incomplete and things would be marked as incomplete if ANYTHING wasn't done to her unclear standards, and the incompletes counted as "zeroes." She lets you resubmit things but I would rather have an 85 instead of having to make every assignment perfect. STRESS
It is like another class, you input the work and you will get the grade you deserve. Very reasonable amount of work and no midterm. Although wish more people participated since she was pretty interesting and funny just puts the whole mood down.
99% of this class is the lab assignments, and they are long and tedious, and you usually won't get it done to meet criteria on the first time, but she allows you to resubmit them. All the lectures' slides are posted on Canvas so notes are necessary, but they definitely help. There is no exams in this class, just the 5 lab assignments.
Very kind professor.
This professor grades based off of complete or incomplete, which at first sounds great. However, based off of lab assessments it is either complete or incomplete. This grading criteria is only beneficial to a few people, while revisions are mandatory. If it is not to her standard, it will be marked incomplete. very stressful course.
She's a very nice professor and genuinely wants her students to do well. I do understand some people's frustration with the way she grades, it can be irritating. You can tell she's not a math teacher because her lectures can be really unclear (it's clear she's reading off a script). I would say that as long as you do the work, you'll be fine.
Perser made it easily understandable and had the patience of a saint. Couldn't recommend her enough. It wasn't the easiest but it's Stats so there's no way around it. Super sweet. She was doing an "ungrading policy" when I took her, where we got to choose our own grades. Obviously she will overrule if you didn't put in the work. Good experience.
this professor is a hard grader, she wants all her labs completed perfectly, lots and lots of revisions and reflections, she wants an ePortfolio, quizzes, labs, reflections, everything done perfect. VERY VERY STRESSFUL CLASS, i would NOT recommend taking her
I wouldn't recommend her online class, it's not for those who are busy. The class is open from Monday to Thursday although the final was opened on the weekend. She was quite jaby, and disrespectful. I'm not a student, so paying someone to offend me was uncalled for. Might be better in person (she knows stat) or if you're free Monday to Thursday.
Get ready to hear "um kay" every time you open one of her lectures. Very annoying and hard to listen to. Big BIG ego with unclear expectations. Just try the online classes at LAVC, Pasadena, or/and LACC. Much better selection there. Just apply and take the online classes there. She's kind of a waste of time.
all quizzes/assignments due by 8pm, 2 day open window for late submission. all assignments are either complete/incomplete and at the end of semester you submit final assignment with your words and proof (like screenshots of grades) and say what grade you think you deserve AtoF based on the incomplete/complete grading scale provided in syllabus.
Please DONT take her class if you need stats to transfer. I took a 5-week course where she condensed 3-4 chapters in 1 week and she expects you to fully understand the material. She is a harsh grader and even if you revise your labs, which you have to chance to, she will NOT mark you as complete. Lectures are not helpful & book was not used. -$50!
If you end up getting a grade on your final and a few months later after the class ends, she changes your grade a few letters down just because you didn't do your best on the lab assessments but on everything else you got a A & B grade, don't say I didn't tell you so. Looks like if she doesn't like you she will fail you months after the class ended
Worst professor I have ever had an experience with. She has no empathy for students and does not know how to teach. Someone take Maria's degree away from her and teach her a lesson to not give students a grade from thin air when they were SUPPOSED to pass the class and months later, she decides to fail them for her own self pleasure.
Perser assigns 200+ question labs, deducting points for every tiny error, and expects students to finish a 900+ page textbook in 5 weeks. On the last day, she changed her grading criteria, claiming it was in her 15-page syllabus, and wanted to drop my A to a C. She's unhelpful, ignoring emails and Zoom questions. She ruined my summer - Stay Away!
I had a good experience in the class. Prof. Perser really seems to care about students and will work with you in office hours to help you understand the material. The class website was organized and easy to work with.
The class itself is interesting, she talks a little too fast sometimes though. But beware, she has a grading system where you do not know any of your grades/final grade till the end.
Prof. Perser is incredibly caring and will work with you to understand the material. It's not an easy class, but if you reach out to her and go to office hours, you can do well. She really seems to know her stuff and works really hard to break it down for you.
It is impossible to get below a B in her class. She has an ungraded policy which = that you wont know your grade until the end and you have to persuade her based on a rubric. PLEASE do all the quizzes and read the book she assigns you for your e.port. You're going to be lost and complain if you don't. She had boring lectures but overall she ight.
Assigns so much work, worst grader ever, please save yourself and never take this class
She accuses you of using AI & is paranoid thinking everyone is cheating. Her videos are long and boring but you need to watch them to pass the class. You have to write out your answers exactly the way she does, including period or commas. Otherwise you are wrong. She is just a horrible professor. Doesn't know how to teach. Stay away!
I really enjoyed this class. Prof. Perser is caring and understanding. I appreciated her feedback on assignments. Her lectures were interesting and kept me coming to class.
This was a really great class and I learned a lot. Prof. Perser is really sweet and understanding too. It was an easy A and the homework was totally manageable.
Perser assigns "labs", which are extremely long assessments and are very tedious to complete. They are often guided by lecture videos, which are helpful but long. Classwork was structured very poorly because of the MindTap assignments that try and prevent students from procrastinating. Feedback returned late, with some even coming after the final.
Honestly such a mid professor, took her for psych and got an easy A and joined her stats class. Worst decision ever. TERRIBLE grading scale, the labs were ridiculous and SO time consuming. She ALWAYS manages to wait last minute to grade things. Lectures were a snooze fest. Accuses everything of AI. Honestly, she's in her flop era and not serving
She never graded work on time, and multiple times work was incorrectly graded. The course ended on June 9th, yet she was still grading on the 16th. Multiple times she accused me of not knowing anything, regardless of the quality of my work. She caused a lot of excess stress. She also changes her syllabus depending on her mood. Drop while you can.
Btw, your grade is based on whatever she feels like giving you. Got a 91% in the class and ended up with a B because I didn't do perfectly in the final. Sure you have to do well on the assignments, but may as well consider the tests and final as 100% of your grade.
Professor Perser is really nice and willing to help you as much as you need. She made a hard subject really manageable.
Open note quizzes but be prepared for none of the material to be on the quiz. Over half the class fails every quiz, then she tells us that "every year it's exactly the same ohhh welllll" Don't try to ask her a question in class or you'll be met with "Uhm I don't know you should know this" Or just other catty behavior. Nothingburger lectures
Your whole class grade is based on quizzes which are the only assignments for the class. The quizzes are open note, but none of the questions are from the textbook or her lecture and she blames the students when 80% of the class fail her quiz.
Mrs.Perser is nice, but she does not grade until last minute. It is an easy class, but you wont know your grade until the end of the semester. Also, taking her for stress management, we had a quiz and the highest was an 88% even though its open note.. Which is crazy, but just cautious.
If you miss a lecture you're lowkey cooked. Test questions are conceptual and lecture-based. She uploads grades last minute so you don't know if you're failing. Answers questions in riddles. There's genuinely levels to ts. Always on some bs "my dog ate your tests" girl we know you haven't graded them
If you have a chance to drop her class before receiving a W do it! She never grades any of the in person quizzes or tests we are almost done with the semester and not a single test or quizzes have been put in so you dont know your grade. Shes also extremely rude when asked questions. The quizzes are open note but the stuff she teaches is not on it.
If you're going to Prof. Perser for a psych course, it's one of the best decisions you'll make for your semester. There aren't many assignments as it's mostly a lecture class and the assignments you will have are fairly easy. The tests aren't too difficult or often. I enjoyed my time in her class, if you're on the fence about her, I say go for it.
This professor gives a significant amount of quizzes with information not seen in the lectures. Lectures are fast paced and have no room for any questions by the students. Not a lenient person making it very difficult to revive your grade from the difficult quizzes.
Grades all of her quizzes less than a week before the class is completed making it impossible to know your real grade in the class. Average test grade is a D or a high F and she prides herself on making her open note tests extremely difficult. I was lucky enough to drop the class early enough but many of my friends ended with Fs and Ds.
The class moves extremely fast, you miss one lecture its almost impossible to catch up because everyday builds on something new. She doesn't slow down for the class so don't bother asking so when multiple students are struggling she laughs it off. Lot of tests that hardly explain what we went over so if you fail the first 2 gg's it only gets worse.
She is honestly a nice teacher but the way she teaches is the biggest issue. The class is basically just a lecture hall with her just going over slideshows all class. She hasn't graded any of the tests by the last week of the semester and its honestly very frustrating. I can see she cares about the students but I wouldn't recommend this class.
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. She thinks everything is AI, everyone is cheating, and she doesn't even know the content that she is teaching. Do not waste your time or your GPA taking this class with this teacher. She never grades work until its the last week so you don't know your grade the entire semester. I couldn't recommend anyone less.
Please do not take this class. Not only will it destroy your mental health, but it will drop your college GPA. Tests are extremely difficult and have new information not seen in lectures. Allows reassessments on homework meaning she never gives full credit. She had 10 quizzes in the grade book and they were inputted 1 week before deadline.
Honestly the class itself will be fine if you put in the work and attend the lectures, but the professor can be difficult. She answers questions in class as if you're wrong for asking them or says "you should know this". If you can take another professor do it, but she's not the end of the world.
I will not take a class with her as a teacher in the future. She has attitude with you if you're confused on something because “it should be straight forward.” I would finish the notes for the week because she just rambles! She's a tough grader doesn't grade on time! Submitted in September? Wait to see your grade being posted late November. #stress
Most of the time the material she teaches during lecture is nowhere near the material shown on the exam. She grades every assignment incredibly slowly, to the point where you don't even see your grade the whole semester. Her grading on the few projects she assigns is very nitpicky. She barely checks her inbox, and will not get back to you ever.
Lots of homework that take days to complete, site wont let you do it all at once. Exams are worth almost everything. The software is hard to use. Can't ask for help, she wont respond. I sent multiple emails and she ignored all of them. Took months to grade. The only grades shown were the automatic homework grades. Bad experience, overcomplicated.
