She is not a good professor. She is very confusing and has silly rules. She told our class that if we have to leave to answer our cell phone that we might as well stay home. We are adults here!! She didnt want us to leave to use the restroom!! Stay away!!
She thinks her students are stupid. She focuses on students who don't do the work, instead of caring about the ones who do. She needs to step back and realize students are there to learn; she needs to be more confident in her skills.
She cared that her students learned the material and continually reinforced every idea. She appreciates hard work and doesn't like it when people come in late or leave early. If you can get passed that, then take her class.
For a basic gen ed course she thought we should be experts and know everything. She pre-graded a paper I wrote, gave it a B, I turned the final same paper in and got a D. Don't take this class if you want to keep your GPA up!!!
She is one of the worst professors on campus. i say this because she is very confusing, always has an attitude, and very rude to out spoken students.
She is the very worst prof. ever!! She picks on students and is not very educated on the subject. I could have learned more reading the book on my own. BORING class, DON'T TAKE IT!!
She was an excellent teacher...NOT!! I hated going to her class. She always picked on her students.I hated how she would single out one person, and if you didn't know the answer she'd make you feel stupid. DO NOT take this class with her!!!!
If you are serious about learning philosophy, then Dr. Paleologou has a lot to offer. Dr. Paleologou tries hard to get her students involved; however, her need to make us raise our hands before we answer questions gets old.
Her expectations are high, but she wants every student to do well. Asked me on occasion on how I was doing and if I needed help on anything. She strives to have everyone succeed in her class.
I didn't mind how she taught, Ive had teachers like her before and I appreciated them. I'm taking another class with her because its easy to understand her methods. I got a lot out of her class.
I learned many interesting things in her class, and her final was an unexpected surprise...it was easy (when her 2 midterms were hard). TIP: Be able to put a name with a theory; on some of her questions she simply asks what a particular philosopher thinks...
Not recommended: little return on investment.
Structure a bit disorganized, requirements changed mid-quarter. Prof very knowlegeable; should be a pretest to get into a 300-level class though, some folks DID NOT belong there, unable to think abstractly, took away from learning experience...prof addressed this too late to make a difference.
It is only the 3rd week of classes and I think Dr. Paleologou wants her students to succeed. She does present a lot of information but she is always willing to take the time to explain something.
This was my 3rd time taking this class and i had 2 different professors. Dr. Paleologou was very helpful to me and made it much easier to understand this difficult course. i highly recommend her. she is so much better than jackson and newberry. Dr. Paleolougou is helpful and gets along with the students
She loves to talk. Considering it was an 8am class, it was interesting. Um, paper wise she was very judgemental on the grading. Your better off if you just go to her and ask her what she wants you to write. Easy class, loved the discussions. The books she assigned were awesome reads.
She is a great teacher, I learned a lot. And she is cool because she is Greek.
shes alright
She is great she really cares about her students and wants them to succeed. She is available when you need her and answers all questions you may have. If she sees that you may be having some problems she tries in every way to help you.
Very interesting discussions, but tests do not seem to follow discussions. Study any reading very closely, much is used in exams.
Very educated, very knowledgeable about topic. Kind of demeaning and condescending if you didnt want to look at everything her way. But she's smart, she's educated- but strong willed. I don't think I liked the combination of odd, yet interesting, traits.
She is awesome! The class was a lot of fun, and she's REALLY smart! She genuinely cares about the students and makes every effort to keep everyone interested and entertained; she's very funny. Dr. Paleologou is also great because she's always available and very willing to help. This one is definitely worth the effort you put in!
She might just be god... Excellent class, and Dr. Paleologou is an amazing teacher!
I had high hopes for this class but it turned out to be a nightmare! I have never felt SO offended in my life! She singles students out that don't see things the way she does and also makes you feel like your beliefs are WRONG because we don't have our Phd in philosophy and can't argue with her level of expertise. Take a different class if you can!
She is a really nice and easy teacher. As long as you do not argue with her, she is really helpful. Sometimes, she does have favorite students. But the class in not hard at all as long as u look at the review worksheets. I recommend her.
She's fun! She's very nice to her students, & she's always willing to help. She stresses that conformity is NOT necessary or even desirable to do well in the course. She DOES expect students to think, so if you enjoy wallowing in ignorance, she's not the prof. for you. If you have a predisposition toward intelligence, I highly recommend her, she'll teach you a lot!
I loved this class SO much! Dr. Paleologou is one of the most extraordinarily wonderful people I have ever met! Her lectures, although sometimes intense, are at once enlightening and enrapturing. She takes her job very seriously, and she does everything possible to help her students. She's definitely worthy of the utmost respect and admiration.
She singles out students that don't understand: she told one student we'd blame him for keeping us longer. Students will only get one explanation of the material repeated ad naseum. She threatens the class not to lie to her. Conflicting information is given. She DID spend alot of time with students to help them when needed.
Some of these comments are kind of ridiculous. If you are unable to handle being challenged, told you're wrong, or expected to think for yourself, than maybe college isn't for you. Paleologou works hard to make sure you understand -- not just are able to parrot back -- the material. She is willing to help you outside of class if you're trying.
Outstanding class!! Lectures were interesting, and everything about the class took on a life of its own as she spoke with passion and enthusiasm. I learned a lot, and I enjoyed doing so (though the class was far from easy).
Difficult but interesting.
Hard professor, but very interesting. Make sure you go to every class. Class quizes are hard, but the actually exams are easier than quizes. She has favorites, so make sure you dont get on her bad side or else your grade will suffer.
Beware of this professor. Class quizzes are difficult. Most of her students get C's or lower.
This professor is a trip. She gets super angry when you walk out during her lectures, then threatens you during class the next day saying how she is going to fail you for doing it again. She also gets pissed if you get up to use the restroom. Do not get on her bad side or else your grade will suffer. Take with another professor if possible!
Horrible instructor her lectures are very dull and boring. Reading is heavy in the class and what she wants for tests is very unclear. Her quizzes are not difficult if you read the material but tests are ridiculous. DO NOT CHALLENGE HER on anything she lectures. I did and received my test back,an F and no comments as to why. All others I did.
Dr.Paleologou knows her material very well. Gives good examples. One must pay attention and follow along in order to get it. I enjoyed the class. Quizes are not hard; however, one must pay extreme detail to "GOTCHA" words (such as ALWAYS). At first she seems intimidating, but if you participate, you will be fine. You must be open minded in class.
Do not take this class I repeat do not take this class. the way she explains things its hard to absorb it. The whole class is based off wack quizes and tests. So like I said dont take it.
Hot, hot, hot,....burn. The class is .....confusing. I read the text book 3 times and still cannot do well in the class. I guess I am not cut out for philosophy.
paleologo is a real ball buster. very intimidating. do not get on her bad side or attempt to challenge her in any way. SHE WILL REMEMBER YOU!!! participation is also mandatory. if you do not speak up in class, she WILL call on you.
Class isn't really all that hard, and she is pretty easy to understand, she does try to help everyone pass. She is an incredibly hard grader though, and does not like to be challenged in any way. She's a little intimidating too.
Cool class, horrible teaching. We actually called her out on some info and she did say she was wrong but did not give us credit for proving her wrong. If she was mad at one student, she was mad at all students. Better understanding the books but not her. She could have been way more clear and approachable but she chose not too. I passed the class.
First of all she is witty! You need to know your stuff in order to do good. She uses the Socratic method so she will make sure you are not BSing. Great teacher who will challenge you like no other.
She is unhelpful and ignores students that need help. I tried to contact her about needing help and all she did was tell me to do it myself. She doesn't give a damn about her students, only getting a paycheck. One of the worst experiences I've ever had.
Good teacher. She is made sure we understood the material and didn't test on anything she had not gone over. I learned a lot.
Study before every single test. If you miss a class, then you will fail! Not an easy course but she teaches very well, she knows her stuff. Pay close attention and if you don't get it ask for help. She does not bite. She is a nice lady overall she just does not like slackers.
She tricks you when you take test. It don't matter how much you studied.
Avoid. She warns you of how the difficult the class can be and you should understand, that the class is very difficult. Avoid if philosophy is not your major.
Philosophy in general is a hard subject. with that said you MUST study or you won't do well but that goes with any class. Dr. P is very helpful for those who do not understand and does her best to explain things in as many ways as possible. I recommend taking her!
Some people think she's difficult, but she opens your mind, as well as think about really abstract concepts. One of the greatest teachers I've had in my career as a student.
She is a great teacher, and she knows what she is doing. I am an honrs student, and though its a class everyone has to take it did challege me a lot. If you don't go, don't bring your book, and don't try you will fail. She doesn't like slackers one bit. But she is there to help always.
She is a great teacher, most likely the best in the department. Her standards are high, but achievable. You will learn in this course. In short: do not take unless you want to learn. That being said, if you absolutely need an A' in this class without putting in the effort, then do not take this course with her. She's an awesome person.
very intelligent, definitely passionate philosophy! she may seem intimidating, but as long as you're not a slacker and you make an effort, you'll get along with her. the subject matter and the class is hard, but she is always willing to go over things you don't understand, or give you extra help outside of the classroom.
She's very intelligent in er subject of teaching. A lot of the reading is done outside of the classroom. Her quizes are b ased on the class disscussion.
If you are looking for an easy class this is not it, but if you want a teacher who cares about the subject and pushes you this is it. She's a spit fire. You have to do the reading prior to lecture, there is lots of mandatory participation. She won't loose your attention. Overall it's a great class, but not easy.
Great prof!! was hesitant at first due to previous comments but she turned out to be one of my favorite professors! she is very clear and helpful whenever I asked questions. She loves her job and does not want to see her students fail. She does challenge you though.YOU MUST STUDY. its college it is suppose to be challenging
try to participate in her awkward "open forum". study for quizes. She gets frustrated with lack of participation.
This prof spends a lot of time and energy trying to find a reason to be aggravated by the students. It detracts from the enthusiasm to learn. She will insist that people participate, and then insist that the wrong students are participating. It's very inconsistent. When a student attempted to participate, quite often you could see they regretted it.
Unless it is required, do not take this course. If you do take this class, make sure to start writing the term paper asap and are as organized as possible. READ, because lectures aren't really helpful as she gets off track due to random questions from students. She's passionate about the subject and knows her Greek Philosophy.
If you're not faced by challange, think again. I am good student and read every chapter and got A's & B's on her daily quizzes. Her tests are excessively difficult and tricky although I studied every time. HW is worth nothing. I got a C-when C is required. She knew how I much I tried and didn't care. I tried to meet with her 2 times with no avail.
Plan on reading and re-reading the material. Participate in class discussions and ask questions. She is passionate about the topics and there to help when you need it. Great teacher
very difficult course, but she is a really good teacher. You MUST read, and read again. You will learn, or you will not pass.
Paleologou is a fantastic teacher. Hard class at first, sure to read and study. Start on the term paper as soon as possible and be sure to meet with her. She makes sure she has covered all the material on the quizzes. Very passionate and intelligent. parcipation is a must.
Dr. Paleologou is an excellent professor. She is passionate about everything she teaches and is always helpful and encouraging so long as you show that you care about the class. She is one of my favorite professors, I've had her for several classes and I fully intend to take many more from her.
The professor displayed bias in grading. She would praise a student for the content of discussion the student could generate, but refused to show such praise in graded assignments. The standards were arbitrary. The professor also visited in-class tantrums frequently, and these often had nothing to do with the course.
Very helpful. Logic/Phil 102 can be a challenge at first, but with this professor it gets easier.
She was not very helpful during the course of the class and she sidetracked many times, but if you are into philosophy you are going to have a bad time. Although she's a good professor she did not know how to keep us motivated and interested in the subject.
Her classes are extremely easy if you have any logically sense. Would recommend to anyone.
took her phil 102 and she made it harder than she should have
Great Professor! She truly wants everyone to pass her class. You must do the work, participate, ask questions, and do your best on her tests. She gives CLEAR lectures on the material and is willing to help her students if there are any questions. High reccommend taking this class with her!
She is most toughest teacher in campus! I would never take her class again, when students asked her if she could explain the smallest thing ever she made a whole lecture and people still don't understand what she wants from them. Quizzes there was a quiz every Wednesday, test HARD! I don't recommend this professor.
This teacher deserves a 55. Prof. Paleologou is a great teacher and inspiration. Her lectures are easy to listen to and she goes over the material so many times you would have to be asleep to fail. She will answer any questions 3x over and always makes time for you. Listen and note and get an A. She's not as scary as she wants you to think ;)
Dr. P is honestly one of the best professors I'e ever had. Her class challenges you, but her instruction is excellent. She takes her time going through the course and doesn't move on to the next topic until the previous one is completely understood. She doesn't take bull and is always willing to help. Take her class. It's worth it.
Dr.P is an a GREAT professor. She always gives her 100% and expects her students to do the same. She makes the material relatable and has a passion for what she teaches. Expect to work hard but to learn a lot. If your looking for an "easy" class to just to get by, look somewhere else. I worked hard and passed w/ a C but learned so much.
Although she is a tough grader, she is very helpful and she stressed going to her offie hours. Phil can be hard for the average person, but i feel as though she makes an effort to try to get her students to understand it. She is one of those hard teachers that you still love because she loves what she does. Oh and i love her accent !
Dr. Paleologou is one of my favorite professors. She not only changed my academic future (I switched my major to Phil.), but she changed my thought process and ultimately my life. Her class is very challenging but well worth it. She is there to teach and challenge the students and she does a very good job at it.
She had us write a term paper that she vaguely explained not even in her syllabus. She just kept saying refer to the syllabus. Then she gave me a 60 out of 100 on the paper for not going in the direction she wanted me to go in. Everyone was confused. If you want a successful college career stay out of her courses!
Dr. Paleologou has a thick Greek accent, but it wasn't a problem for me. She is very passionate and can come across as intimidating, but she is just incredibly thorough. I really liked her as a teacher because of how much she explained the material. She fully expects you to read and study on your own on top of attending lecture.
Professor Paleologou has an accent but she goes over the material so well that you understand it to the fullest extent. Missing class is not recommended. Her lectures are thorough. Quizzes are easy if you just play attention and read. She's a great professor and i look forward to her class because she challenges us. Definetely recommend her class
Dr. Paleologou's critical thinking class is a challenging class. The concepts may seem relatively easy, but you need to study and practice. She grades really strictly. However, she provides in depth explanations of those concepts and moves at the pace of the students. She tries to make sure everyone understands the topic before progressing.
For someone that has trouble with critical thinking, this professor made material clear and enjoyable. She took the time to make sure we understood. Gave assigned readings and at the end of lecture would assign exercises to practice material from class. Before final had a study group for anyone that wanted extra help. Caring, VERY GREEK, and great!
I have much respect for her. She is a tough grader because she expects the best from her students. The real world doesn't cut you slack, and she is preparing you for real life. I learned a lot from her. She isn't to bad on the eyes either!
Tough grader
Shes is sooo hard omg impossible her quizzes are not based on what she teaches
HArd grader and she writes in her own language shortens everything and her class is never the time ur schedule says she always goes 5-10 min over
Dr. Palaiologou is a great professor. She is very passionate about what she teaches and provides plenty of examples to help you succeed on tests and quizzes. The lectures are very straightforward, but make sure you practice applying the concepts to the practice problems she assigns! If you do so, this course will be a breeze.
The class is heavily quiz and exam based. If you understand the concepts and go to office hours for extra help, you should be fine. She's very helpful and nice and wants the best for her students.
you'll be leaving with a few grey hairs
I did not really have any problems with her. She stimulated me intellectually and I loved our discussions. However she is not a good quiz/test writer. Lot of confusing questions, some grammar errors, and some trick questions. She is though nice and fair, but tests are a little hard. There is essay writings in this class. No group projects.
She'll go of on tangent rants that don't have much to do with the class material and the rants will usually be similar in theme. They can take 15 min of class time or more.
She is rude and she doesnt ever seem like she is in a good mood. The language barrier/accent makes it hard to understand what she is saying half of the time . She has quizzes like every two weeks and she says shes clear in the questions and that they are never trick questions but really they are all trick questions.
She is a good professor even though she can seem intimidating. She does care that we try to learn the material and is good at explaining. I took her for critical thinking and it was a mediocre level of difficulty class.
Professor Paleologou is a VERY TOUGH GRADER!!! I love being in her class, the conversations are great. BUT, she makes up the quizzes and they are based off of class discussions and assigned readings, she makes them very hard to understand and very tricky. Grades are based off of mainly quizzes, there are 4 journals, a midterm and a final. Good Luck
This professor is the worst teacher I have ever had. She talks way too fast and she doesn't know how to word her quizzes. They are so confusing. She asks for feedback, but then yells at us when we tell her our concerns. She goes WAY over time, and will put the stuff she goes over with on our quizzes. She will RUIN your gpa!!! don't do it b.
Professor Palaiologou was a fantastic professor. This was my second class that I had taken with her and it was challenging but worth it. She assigns readings and then discusses them in class. Great class and she was always willing to help in class or office hours.
Dr. Paleologou was definitely interesting. Her accent can be hard to understand sometimes and philosophy can be really confusing. She made good points and I learned a lot from her class, but her quizzes were really hard and the mid-term and final was also very difficult. Would not take this class again and would not recommend her personally.
Dr. Palaiologou was a great professor. She pushes you and "challenges" you in lectures simply to try to push you further. Class participation matters, and she just wants to see you succeed in the course. There was a Paper, and two exams that accounted for almost all of your grade. Test were difficult, however over 5 weeks it should be expected.
You can tell she's very passionate and knows her stuff. But truly makes things way more difficult than they need to be. Im taking her for critical thinking, not an honors course, its just worth 3 units but she treats it like an honors course. Its annoying, I have other classes lady. Alot of ranting and alot of slight belittling if you ask questions
interesting class and professor, has high expectations for students but isnt mean or rude. she will make you participate in class discussions tho, if youre scared of that. readings before class is necessary to be able to participate well. id def take her again if i was a philosophy major or minor
She is a tough grader and most of your grade is based on exams. I did not really like the class which did influence my rating. She is a okay professor and I would not take the class again.
This professor was awful, she doesn't like you if you disagree with her. She also has no clear grading policy and is heavy on midterm and finals, they were 55% of my total grade. Study guides are not helpful as she just reposts all the material. Never take this class. I only did so as an honors requirement.
The course itself was great. Amazing information. The professor herself was not. It is all lectures and tests. No extra credit. No homework besides reading. She is a very tough grader. Very particular in what she wants. Puts in grades last minute. The test themselves are extremely difficult even if you do study due to how she words the questions.
Midterm and final were 55% of my grade. I showed up to every class and participated in every discussion, still the test questions are worded to trick you, and are very specific, studying does not help and study guides are not helpful. No extra credit offered, though it says it will be in the syllabus. This professor rambled and made the class worse.
Challenging but rewarding philosophy class. Expects active participation. Tests can be tricky, but using Unstuckstudy and the textbook helps. Definitely leaves you with a few grey hairs, but worth it.
Contrary to popular belief, the courses taught by this professor are amazing...if you derive happiness from having your mind bent over backward and turned to potato mush for short moments. This class will make you THINK and question your beliefs more than ever before. It is life-changing. You better read, write, rewrite, and ask questions to pass!
What a terrible experience when dealing with a crappy Professor. She is passionate about the subject but she lets her emotions get to the grading. She expects you to write a perfect essay or she will give you a very bad grade. You can tell she only cares about making her money and going home, what a bad experience and hope to never take her EVER.
Took this fall 24. This one's tricky. This professor is amazing if you care about the subject, but if you just want the credit, I would recommend you go for a different professor. She isn't afraid to call you out for being wrong, or swear at you, or make assignments with the expectation of failure, but I did enjoy most lectures for the most part.
Convinced the people in this refused to read at all, quizzes were about 10 true/false questions that were almost common sense. Barely read but passed every quiz. Agree she is a harsh grader, but as long as your points are related at all you'll get a good essay grade. Helpful when you ask questions, though I can agree she rambles occasionally.
