She nearly ruined poli sci for me, and I later went to grad school
Maria taught me how to change the world. She can teach you too.

Just seeing this name makes my want to CRY!!
An intellectual dung heap
I attended 4 universities through grad school and, hands down, Peluso is the worst and most useless teacher I ever encounter, and does Concordia a great disservice. Why is she still there?
a true troll

Warning all students! You'll want to avoid this one at all costs. She is rude, crude, unpleasant, unkempt, .... horrible.
She is opinionated, but I think it's great. I enjoyed my class very much, I always looked forward to it. She's very willing to help. Doesn't have time for stupid comments though-so watch what you say!
***WARNING***
Mrs Peluso was very helpful and went out of her way in this respect. She is quite interesting as well.
Please, please, read and heed my words ... if you are interested in Politics, DO NOT take this prof. Her class is like poisoned food. It will put you off the subject for life.
I really enjoyed this teacher, yes, she is very opinionated but that makes the class interesting, furthermore, she's quite knowledgeable and a very fair marker !
great prof. that has no time to bother with slackers and people that ask useless questions. i loved that.
crabby. Better teachers are out there, why settle for this hag?
took her a while ago, but remember not thinking so highly of her.
Spoke over my head
i have no idea how the school had professor teaches Human Rights and she does't respect the rights of other people. she attacked other people religous believes as CRAZY MINDWASH. she would make you doubt you beliefs and your Cultural Values.avoidifyoucan
She was an awesome teacher. Very passionate about what she teaches, and always enjoyed a good debate. Dismissed stupid questions/comments, but it's about time someone does. Take her if you're not afraid to be pushed to think differently.
warning' do not make views that opposed to her or you will be cursed, no clear understanding of the material being taught. she reads from the book as if you can't read. her marking depends on your looks and the way you you involve in discussions. avoid.
Read and beware. I enjoyed many years at university (grad school) and she clearly stands out as the very WORST "teacher" I had the misfortune to encounter
WARNING! Do not take this teacher! She is by far the worst teacher. Rude, opinionated but in a wrong way, waist your time by talking about stupidities. She calls herself a feminist but has no idea what feminist theory is about. I dropped class before the mid-term couldn't stand hearing her anymore!!
tough, but interesting. if you're looking for an easy mark - don't take a peluso class. but you'll learn from someone with more than textbook knowledge - which is way more useful in the real world. if you're not interested in the real world, well, go to mcgill and start wearing tweed.
Whoa, seeing this name still makes my skin crawl. Even years after the fact, I have to cry out a warning and lament: AVOID THIS PERSON! Don't take her course. Protect yourself, your sanity and GPA. She gives Con U. a bad name, and that speaks volumes.
She's not a hard grader, she's just fair. She clearly explains what is on the mid-term and the rest is up to you to study. She's very helpful; she usually answers emails within 1 day. She's very interresting and she will put a student in their place if they are asking stupid irrelevant questions.
Peluso is a fighting machine, i love that. And she's also old school, I love that too. PG-13. Not for the kiddies!
A disgrace to Concordia, and teachers like her are why the school has such a bad reputation!
I wanted to like her--- but there is a HUGE discrepancy between the justice and human rigths she preaches and the nasty behavior she dishes out to the people around her. A moody favoratist who over-uses the term 'skullduggery'.
Warning! do not take any with this woman. overly opinionated, long winded, and generally unprepared are the 3 most appropriate descriptions of her course. The course is easy but the biggest challenge is showing up to class and sitting through her 2 hour self righteous rants.do your best to avoid
she is one of the best profs i ever had. still, ehr is tough: you have to stick to her format in the3 final paper. she is very knowledgeable and humane. and she is one of the most liberal profs i have had.
she is wonderful! Extremely helpful but lazy people beware. If you are looking for an easy grade dont take her. Youll learn a lot.
An amazing individual. Very helpful but does not suffer fools gladly. Her lectures are dynamic and she likes to foster debate and class discussions. She also plays devil's advocate to solicit reactions to various arguments and theories. You learn surivial skills and well taking this prof.
Cool, classy broad. Even when she marks you hard, she is fair. I found her one of the friendliest and most helpful teachers in the department. If you find the class difficult, just ask for help - she goes out of her way to be available.
she's one of the best profs. ive ever had. she's seriously helpful and open minded. loved her course!!!!
Her viewpoints are very interesting compared to other profs in the department, but I don't like the way she dismisses others' views as wrong or unimportant compared to her own. Pretty condesending towards to students w/ different opinions. Her class won't be good on your GPA. I wouldn't recommend her.
love her openess and helpfulness, she will go out of her way to help you. One of the best profs ive had
Opinionated, but has loads of experience and knowledge to share if you are open to it. Sometimes her lectures feel like a union rally. She is very liberal and preaches a lot. Overall, a good experience.
Quite a professor. Takes the time to explain things clearly and knows her material. Don't take this professor if you are interested in an easy grade. She is committed to the course subject and brings a wealth of experience to compliment our readings.
She doesn't explain the course material well, making it VERY hard to prepare for exams, which she grades in a very random manner. Her lectures are dull and she makes her preference for the female students obvious.
Easy going and helpful. Midterm exam (50%) read and take notes on the chapters and you'll do good. For the paper (50%), follow the instructions on the "check off list" to the letter and it's an A- for the paper. Unorganized individuals will fail. I got the impression she prefers female students. But, overall good prof.
She doesnt teach, she preaches. She would have been better as a televangelist or one of those ladies collecting money for starving kids on saturday morning tv commercials. Exams and papers have NOTHING to do with lectures. Plus, she's got a foul attitude. AVOID!
HORRIBLE TEACHER. THE WORST I HAVE EVER HAD AT CONCORDIA.
An amazing teacher, great political knowledge, a midterm and a term paper. No final exam. An interesting and relatively easy course.
She was my professor 9 years ago. She was then, and I am sure still is a woman of great power and drive. It was my honour to have been taught by such a strong and brilliant woman!
This is the worst class that I have ever taken. I dropped the course midway because I could not put up with another minute of her pontificating. She preaches about human rights and dignity, but belittles you in front of the whole class. She is rude and prejudiced. The midterm exam was rediculous: MEMORIZATION of the QC and CAN Charter of Rights!
Very rude person. Does she honestly think she will get her biased points across by looking down her nose at her students? Terrible prof. This prof gives Concordia and women profs a bad name. Avoid at all costs
this prof is one of the best ones i've had at concordia. The fat that she is a strong feminist might scare some, but she's really helpful and non-biased. Plus, the exam is pretty sraight forward, go to the lectures and youll do well. Final paper easy as long as you follow her checklist. super knowledgeable and always available to students.
Worst political science teacher that I ever had at Concordia. This teacher does not use any academic standard to mark her students. Your success in this class depends on how she feels, on how much she likes you and on how much you agree with her. Very unprofessional. Warning stay away!!!!
Knows what "she" knows well, but that's it. Don't challenge her on any issue. She marks your EQ as well as IQ so play nice. Study charter for 1st test and talk to her about 2nd test (Browny points). Be nice and follow her lead, get a few browny points and you wont have anything to worry, about. If you want structure..stay away.
WORST TEACHER at Concordia! SUPER STRONG Feminist! EVIL! All over the place. BORING! DO NOT TAKE! DO NOT TAKE! You WILL REGRET IT! VERY VERY Opinionated! Makes fun of students! Very short temper!
One of the most intelligent profs I've had. Yes she is challenging at times, but in a good way. She makes you justify your arguments instead of treating every opinion equally no matter how stupid it is, which is what most Concordia profs do. Exams and assignments were not that hard. Tons of experience with political activism. Recommended!
Very judjemental and opininated. Extremely rude and superficial. Not very approachable. I had a serious family problem and she did not believe in the seriousness of my situation and the hard time I was going through.
Totally agree she is the worse Political Science teacher at concordia. No structure, No clarity, jumps from one subject to the next..had to study very hard because of that. Regret taking her class
Peluso has alot of community/social activism experience but theoretical knowledge is unimpressive.Explanations often rushed+ incomplete and as such she takes on defensive(at times offensive)tone in classroom. Her lectures are anecdotal+ without structure and leaves u nervous about her knowledge.dont be critical/kiss ass- u'll do well. BAD BAD PROF.
Very good teacher who cares about her students. She knowns her subject well and treats students with a great deal of respect.
A very kind professor who takes the time to help you. Don't be late with your assignments. Teacher commands a great deal of respect and knows her material.
Our books could not be purchased, and she placed only one book on reserve for over 50 students. Does not really care of her students, is too involved in feminism and lost the concept of empathy along the way. She doesn't teach, she imposes her flawed ideology. Should consider retiring, so that new and more exciting teachers can replace her.
Horrible professor! She is mean to her students, she intimidates them and belittles them for asking questions and has no respect for their time, intelligence, or opinions. She doesn?t know the subject she is teaching. She makes things up, she generalizes, she singles out minorities and picks on them in class. Stay away!

Nice woman, horrible teacher. Dont waste your time.
I absolutely DETEST this teacher. Her lectures consist of HER opinions (in one lecture she went on and on about how OUR opinions mean nothing), doesn't answer questions, is rude, obnoxious, and says "ya, know" after every sentence. Our class had nothing to do with Law, which was why I took the course in the first place. Coursepack was useless.
HORRIBLE!!! she basically hates her students. what she says matters, not what the students say. unapproacheable, belittles students and has called them annoying. never wants to answer questions and often says we are "wasting her time". def should not be teaching!
This is by far the worst teacher I have ever had, until I had cause to deal with her personally I thought she was just a rambling, incoherent, poliincorrect, self contradicting, pompous hypocrite. And then I had the misfortune of having to speak with her personally she was rude and ignorant, not to mention uninformed and self contradicting as usual
This is the worst teacher at Concordia. She should be avoided so as to not sourer ones university experience. Does not answer questions nor does she seem to like teaching since she just rambles on about all the ?great? things she has accomplished in her career.
One of my least favorite teachers. Horrible teacher, judgemental and insulting. Not very helpful and mocks her students. When she is nice sometimes, she'll ruin it by being completely rude not long after. Take the class if you want an easy A, but don't expect to learn anything or be inspired. She always talks about herself.
Worst professor at Concordia. Arrogant condesending woman who is a hardcore liberal feminist. Take her if you want to waste your time and money
One of the best profs I have ever had. She really knows her stuff on Feminist Ethics and the Law. She encourages class participation by creating an atmosphere of lively discussions. Her personal experience in the feminist movement is refreshing and helps put things into context for studying. She is really accommodating to her students.Love her!
Peluso rocks! Just finished her course in Policy and Pol of Equality. She is funny & tough (but fair). I don't understand the negative comments:you must have been 1 of the students who never came, didn't study (she told you exactly what to do to get an A in her class) and expects an A. Maria is the best prof in Poli Sci. She helps her students.
Professor Peluso inspired me in many ways. She reminded me(and others) that it is not enough to simply go to school and get the grades, but how we apply we have learned for the betterment of our communities and ultimately, society as a whole that matters in the long run. She's got a lot of experience in the real world, and she tells it like it like
Very straight-forward. Do the readings you'll ace the exam and if you need help, or in my case a favor, just be 'no-bull' about it and she'll do whatever she can to help.
ouch! an amazing activist but a terrible teacher. no structure, not very respectful of her students, complete lack of intellectual honnesty as she distorts the views of others to fit her needs. when you call her on an obvious mistake of her interpretation, she ll go off on an unrelated tangent and will try to put you down. AVOID!!!
Horrible. She's the female equivalent of Lewis Black. But in the worst way possible. She insults her students. She's also very unclear and will get really pissed if u don't get her. Interesting woman but by far one of the worst teachers I've had at concordia.
I enjoyed taking Maria's class. There were two mid-terms 25% each and a final (take-home) 50%. The first mid-term is very easy so long as you study the Charter well - some questions were repetitive :) Start the take home early - you'll be fine. Only ~5 people got As. The rest were Bs
I just found this site and was not surprised by the ratings I read. I'll just write this: I went to Con U. and now have 2 Masters from elite schools. If I had to pick the single worst prof and course during my many university years, it would Peluso. Hands down. She was dreadful, and I still have the memories, like a nightmare. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Prof Peluso is strict, no doubt about it. Don't go in expectingan easy grade, it wont happen but if you pay attention she's really interesting, knows her stuff and has alot of real world experience. Sometimes it's good to exit the academic bubble. She will tell you how to succeed in her class and she delivers on it.
she's radical that's all!
This is the worst professor I've ever had. She's rude, unclear, her lectures are more like leftist rants which go from topic to topic in a very disorganized way. She teaches hard-left slogans as fact, and she only gives good grades to her pre-ordained favorites. I feel like this class made me stupider.
This woman is very rude to students. Yes, many people have useless comments to make in class and dumb questions to ask, but she was extremely fast to dismiss even relevent opinions. I found myself shocked at the way that she would snap at people. Her grading is strange and I feel as though she has favourite students who receive the best marks.
I don't think she's rude. I think she's just a strong, opinionated woman. If you are intimidated, that's your problem! Her class wasn't easy at all I admit. You really had to read everything and attend class every wk. Midterm was dreadful, half of the class failed. Final paper boost my grade. I got an A-
I thought she was upfront, not rude. She could go on tangents but I found her entertaining, and interesting, enough. The midterm is based purely off of one textbook. The second textbook is useless unless your paper is on that topic.
I took three classes with her and my collegues couldnt understand why because during the first one she insulted me and other students in front of all the class. She has strong opinions and will barely let you talk. She is a strong feminist but the more she knows you and the more you know her, you learn to appreciate her. She is an amazing women that accomplished many brilliant things but she has a bad temper and won't let anybody interrupt her. Make sure she loves you bcause if notyouwillfail
This class is an easy A if you make minimal effort to study and work on your final essay. It doesn't matter if she doesn't like you or not! She grades fairly! I got an A+ in the midterm and ended up with an A as my final grade. I learned alot about the Charter. Nice prof A+++++
Excellent professor, the best I have had in Political Science with legal analysis and a great deal of depth. Course not for everyone though.
An excellent scholar but not for everyone. She does not suffer fools gladly. Knows her material and is always accessible to help. I learned a great deal in this class about feminist theory, law, and the origin of rights.
This professor was amazing. She knows her stuff and your own applied experience served to complement course materials. Great teacher but class was not the best with students really not interested in people's rights.
One of those people who just arent meant to teach. Incredibly rude, and an unrealistic marker. avoid if you can
Very self centred and she pretends that she knows all these big politicians.
Her knowledge of feminist issues and how policy and politics reflect on the issues is in depth and facilitates a better understanding on the state of affairs. She also brings a historical perspective which is fundamental to understanding the course. I loved this class!
She is a hands-on professor, has a lot of experience in Quebec politics and this is reflected on the material and on the discussions. She brings up issues from different perspectives, in a rigorous manner. She is not an easy professor as she expects students to be dedicated, so students looking for a Mickey Mouse course should not take her course.
She is very prepared. She expects students to participate and to learn. She will bring up issues in an in-depth manner and will make sure they are understood. Expect to read, to participate and to learn. If you do not want to work for it, this is not the teacher for you since she is an academic that brings up rigour.
She is an excellent scholar and wants students to learn and to be rigourous, She is willing to help out students excell yet she will not deal with lazy students. I will actually take a course with her again!
This professor is smart and knowledgeable, yet extremely accessible and open. I enjoyed her class and I did learn a lot. If you are willing to learn and are not just looking for an easy grade, this is a great prof!
This prof is an excellent scholar who brings great ground experience to the table as well. Inspirational and knowledgeable, she will make you read and will bring up intelligent discussions and analysis. Great prof!
Found this class stimulating.
I was quite interested in the topic so the class was easy. Prof. Peluso is helpful and accessible.
I enjoyed this class.
Great class!
I wish I had known Prof. Peluso earlier in my studies. I took her class in my final year of graduation. A remarkable teacher displaying a solid knowledge of Canadian public administration. I learned a considerable amount in this class about Canada/Quebec relations and history. Course is not for the weak grade seekers.
