Very interesting. Supports students, knows the material. Fair marker, believes in students
She is really a bad teacher. She always confuse students with her material. She really don't know what is to be taught in class. Keeps on frowning. Very strict to her students. Her exams are really really tough and very difficult to understand. Not a recomended teacher at all.
She is not a good teacher. Please never take her. That's all i can say.
Good person but bad teacher. Fair marker and wants to help students but wastes too much of class time on irrelevant material. Tests are ok if you have worked hard to learn the material on your own, but otherwise not easy.
Very good teacher, fair and really knows her material, expects students to be prepared
Strict and fair
Interesting and great teacher
Amazing. She was a great prof, passionate about her teaching, and about making sure everyone understood and was successful in the class
Awesome prof!! So passionate about what she's teaching, and always incorporates real life examples into lectures. I was impressed when I emailed her when I was confused about one of the lectures , and she replied providing me with a clear, quick response. Always willing to help and wants students to succeed.
Great prof, challenges you to put your best work forward, and pushes you to succeed. Follow her instructions and meet with her to ask for clarity and you will be rewarded. Knows the material
Professor knows the topic extremely well, and is willing to help if you are willing to work on the material. Overall, Professor makes the lessons interesting as it can be, ad always including in real-life connections.
By fair the worst teacher I have had in my whole college experience, and that's saying something. She does not explain herself well at all, you have to basically teacher yourself. Makes many mistakes with marking not to mention her exams are barely the material from class and when you ask her to explain herself she never can! basically avoid her!
Favourite teacher. Helpful, good sense of humour. Even suppports students with other courses they are taking. Participate and attend class. Good class
Really cares for students and wants everyone to succeed. Exams are very fair and she is more than willing to provide help to those who need it. Overall great
one of the few professors in this department who really knows her stuff. This isnt a class or a professor for some one looking for the easy A she has a lot to offer and to teach you as long as you are open to trying new things. She is a wonderful with a new and interesting approach
Maria is different, in a good way. BACC100 and 200 were all about journal entries and memorization. It's not all gone in 300, but she focuses on analysis and makes you think and analyze instead of regurgitate from the notes. If I had any criticisms it was that the professor was a little unclear with how our tests were to formatted.
the very best professor I've experienced. Energetic, empathetic & wholeheartedly the most committed professor ever. Answers emails the fastest I've ever seen. Attend class, do assignments, study what she advises & you will succeed.
Maria is a great prof. she makes what could be a very difficult class simple. she can be somewhat unclear of her expectations at first, but she makes the exams VERY straightforward. She focuses on comprehension rather than memorization.
Best teacher I have ever had, clear in making the concepts understandable and relate-able to real business examples. Want all my Humber professors to teach the way Professor Racanelli does. She is exceptional, passionate about finance, teaching students and you actual learn from the material. She had an impact on my understanding of finance.
Professional -knows her material.
I would not take this teacher again, she has an attitude problem, gives five exams in one class a semester (two case studies worth 15% each, no open book or group work allowed). Also she is the most stressful teacher i've ever had at humber.
hard
Likes it when students participate. Expects students to read material in advance and to be prepared to have in class discussions. Great and thorough lessons. Take if you can.
Amazing Prof and Coordinator - Maria is always there to help. She somehow always gets you to do something positive for fellow students or the college in return. She is genuine and actually cares about her students. You can't always say that about a lot of other profs.
I enjoyed attending her class lecture as her style was amazing. Professor loves students who participate in class. Includes questions from what we discussed in class so attend class.
Don't bother showing up for class if you dont feel like participating, or if you dont like being hazed and made a fool of if you didnt bother reading beforehand because she expects you to. I'd recommend you just read the textbook, do the questions for practice and head over to the accounting center for extra help because they are better tutors.
Very interesting class. Be prepared- read book, expect to participate. University level discussions.
Highly respected, but definitely has an attitude problem. Be prepared to participate and possibly ridiculed. Tests are alright if you're able to keep up and understand the required homework. On the plus side, she encourages students to do well both in class and career-wise... I would never choose her as a professor again though.
best teacher
Smart, likes students, helps students to do better,
Challenge students which is good since we are at college- not a high school .Had her twice, really cares for students and knows the material. Would take again for Policy if she teaches it.
Maria is fairly new to teaching and it shows. Very knowledgeable but sometimes get too focused on examples and real life scenarios from her working days that the course concept is unclear. Hard to know where marks come from as she makes up assignments on the spot and has constant pop quizzes. 2nd time having her, she makes you work for your marks
Had her 3x for 3 different courses. Great lectures. Uses lots of real examples to explain business concepts. Participation is expected
Maria is an amazing person. She genuinely cares about her students. If you show up, participate in lectures and do assigned readings it is impossible not to do well. She attempts to get everyone involved in the lecture and is easy going. I would definitely take her again.
Maria calls herself an "accidental teacher" which really shows in her style of teaching. Be prepared to do most of the work by yourself because she gets stuck on one example for the whole class. If you do not prepare well for lectures, you will be possibly ridiculed. She also makes rude comments sometimes and does not treat students like adults.
Attend class , participate and read cases. Tough course- but it is a third year course so be prepared. Challenges students to try harder. If you want an easy grade try some else.
Learning stuff- tough and straightforward. Be prepared to work.
Good prof. Easy exams- lots of quizzes
If you dear get up in the middle of the class to use the washroom be prepared to be disrespected in front of the whole class. And never eat in her class so if you have an early morning class make sure you eat breakfast first or starve until she gives the class a break. And don't ever be late or else she will stop the class and make a scene.
Wish more profs cared about students like she does. BTW I have food alergies so no food policy is a good thing
Awesome - really cares about students.
Amazing Prof! Tough, and cares about her students
Amazing teacher, she gives real life experiences to making the learning experience better. You can tell she really cares about students passing, and can come off rude sometimes. TBH i think the people who really complain about her are the students that don't participate, and are constantly on their phones. Come prepared for class and have no issues
One of the best professors I've had to date. I've never been overly interested strategy or policy before, but she takes concepts that have bored me to death when I'd been forced to study them before and brings them to life so I can understand them and actually enjoy participating. She's great. BTW, no food policy is a great thing. Be on time-
Pretty good, had her twice. Prepare to write, if you're rusty get help. Lots of cases assignments quiz. Only prof during crisis who responded to students and adapted with new technology. Very thoughtful takes classes seriously. Overall courses are doable learned important lesson beyond textbook.
A super nice prof - cares if you skip class, her classes are actually fun and interesting. Shes fast and runs lectures in a good manner. Would definitely recommend .
Horrible attitude for a professor, does not listen to the students at all. You tell her something and she does not listen. Then if a male says it she then amazingly answers the question and apologizes. If you are put in a bad group then get ready to deal with it yourself, she does not help at all. I do not know how she is a program head.
Her personality is warm, she is into getting to know students, movies & books. She has interesting views about business. When it comes to teaching, she is very accommodating. Always willing to answer questions with in-depth explanation. You have to show up, pay attention and understand the content to pass the tests, complete the cases/participate.
One of the best professors I have taken at Humber. Maria was engaging and caring. The lectures, ppts and homework feedback really helped to prepare for the exams. Be prepared to participate and answer the So what questions.
Her lectures are interactive and keep you engaged. Really cares about students and wants us to succeed. Provided lots of feedback and helped me learn skills that I used in my other courses and at work as well. One of the best courses this semester even if it was online. If you do not like to participate take someone else.
If you haven't figured it out by now, Maria Racanelli is the best professor for BMGT 304 and if you read all the reviews below, you'll know why. Do yourself a favor and take her and be prepared read and speak up.
Passed the course! It was a lot work, reading and homework. She makes it more meaningful with real companies and recent examples. She makes you think, not easy - yet would recommend.
So glad I transferred to her section. She is very knowledgeable, respectful, and really wants to hear students speak, makes the classes so interesting. Brings real company and practical examples to make the concepts easier to understand. She gives detailed feedback, posts grades fast and responds to messages. Sends lots of reminders and messages.
Be careful as she seems nice at first usually and ends up showing her true colours. As a course coordinator i expect way better from her. She doesn't even give you a chance to maintain your grade or understand why she gave you specific marks. Whatever she says goes. Ive had her prev as well and she does speak disrespectfully. Just fake.
She will probably be the best professor I will ever have at college. Nicest, and most accommodating professor I have had by far. Everyone likes her , and for good reason. Exam reviews are very helpful and similar to the tests. She really helped communication skills- my favorite subject to my absolute strength. Incredible person.
She has so much to offer and teach students and really cares about us. Very inspirational and knowledgeable. She provides feedback and is opening to hear students share their views.
She had bad attitude when I asked her about the instruction. She expects us to understand her instruction, but it was unclear. The webcam is necessary, if you don't have webcam, you will get 0.
One of the best professors I've ever had. This was my 2nd time taking a course taught by her-thrilled to find out I was in her class again. Yes , she is tough and understanding. She delivers the content clearly and wants participation. You'll have to do activities each week, but it's so beneficial as it actually helps you learn the course and pass.
Different than your ordinary college profs- puts students and what they will learn from the class ahead of a grade- which is what makes her special. You will need to break out of your shell and take interest for learning and presenting. Classes are interesting and demanding so expect to work for grades. Lots of group projects and prepare to work.
She is professional, respectful, very clear with case studies, lectures and exams. Classes were live and she provided powerpoints in advance. Great at providing timely feedback - but you have to work for it. Case studies and major group project were graded with detailed feedback. Provided extra feedback online for each group. Would take again.
Challenging but fair -- I enjoy this class. Learning to speak up more.
Great Prof, Obviously a very smart and 100% dedicated to students. Very helpful in office hours and weekly sessions. She teaches challenging classes, but teaches them well if you're willing to actually invest your time and effort. Be ready to participate.
She is awesome and really cares about students and teaches the material very well. . I really advise taking this class.
She takes attendance so I came to class. She is caring, smart and humble. Her classes are very organized > Be prepared to participate in class.
Tough with number of weekly presentations- but I am learning.
Fantastic prof, dedicated, genuinely wants students to succeed. Enjoys playing badass by challenging students. You will learn a lot and really grow. Engaging lectures and discussions. High expectations, knows most courses in the program- expects you to discuss most courses during presentations and discussions. Be prepared to speak up.
very rude and unapproachable
I recommend her over any professor. Very clear lectures and ppt and reviews. This class is not be easy, but she makes learning the information very easy. You will have to be prepared, read , study and give it your all, but she will support you and make sure you succeed. Make time to be prepared and you will succeed.
I finally get this course. She is great.
kind teacher
Tough and very good and caring teacher. Lectures are amazing - uses real life company examples. Activities used breaks the ice between all students. Be prepared to do the work and participate. Definitely would take her again
Her lectures are very good. You have to participate, which is fun for some and hard for others. Best class for me. Professor is very helpful, ask and you will get help. This class helps you to think critically and be more confident. . Be ready to read, think and discuss every week.
If you are not into finance, do not take it with her, because you will not be able to get a good grade without a lot of independent studying. I know there is another prof who explains everything better. Also, she is really strict and passively aggressive. I got the worst anxiety after each class.
Amazing prof with so much experience and knowledge. Lectures are extremely helpful -can literally avoid textbook from listening to her lecture. She also has review sessions before exams. Expects students to be prepared for weekly discussions/presentation. If you don't want to participate, find different prof.
She's super nice and wants to you learn, but personally I find her lectures and the main site very disorganized. Gotta participate too. She forgets things pretty often which gets pretty confusing. She makes the tests relatively easy, at least the midterm. For the final, majority of the questions were on something we barley talked about in class.
This is an easy rating . Yes there is a lot to cover but Professor organizes her notes, lectures, and assignments so they are easy to access and can be refer back to for exams. There are weekly discussions which are relevant and may be part of exam. Provides feedback on presentations and case studies. Truly cares about students' learning.
I took her for BFIN and Strategy 1. She teaches you everything you need to know to pass. Anything said in class is on the test. Attend and participate in class. Read textbook, learn your topics, know key concepts- practice your presentations. If you do, you'll get an A or B. Hard class, don't expect an easy A or blame the professor for toughness.
just 1 advice don't take her at all
The class is very interesting and both the professor and the other students were interactive and added interesting discussions. Attendance is not mandatory but it makes a huge difference when students attend especially as there are many group projects.
Great prof. Best feedback I've ever seen, super clear and wants you to succeed. Truely cares for students, very well organized. Our class was pretty fast paced, but she made it manageable with the limited time we had in the semester. Really recommend.
The material can be very difficult but you can tell she's smart and will go out of her way to have extra hours, study material, answer questions, etc. She posts ppts and tells you exactly what to study for the tests. You can also do recommended homework - she will review it you by appointment. Honestly one of my favorite professors at Humber.
This professor was consistently rude and very unapproachable. Classes often went off-topic into uncomfortable discussions unrelated to the course. Explanations regarding course content were unclear, and I had to teach myself for most of it. I WOULD NEVER recommend taking her.
Knowledgeable, understands concepts being taught and teaches in a very clear manner. As per exams, doesn't try and trick you. Everything tested is on slides-very straightforward. Favorite prof so far. Be prepared to participate. Didn't appreciate at first but now after our presentation feel more confident about finance and my communication skills.
A great prof who gets to know her students. I was in a very small class and she made an effort to get to know all of us. Classes were concept and discussion based, which made understanding the content more interesting. Encouraged us to apply the content to current business activities. Average grader, try your best and contribute to each class.
i learned a lot in this course & enjoyed her teaching style. Class was always very interactive & collaborative. SHe is easy to approach for any questions or if you need more feedback.
just no. super difficult
Interesting caring and knows the material. Very fair marker.
The exam was predictable and she is a nice professor. Shares ppts no real need for textbook
She is a very good professor who is caring and takes time to get to know her students. Participation and showing up to class really matters. She uses real life examples and an interactive way for students to learn the material. Exams are straight forward and make sense if you pay attention.
Pay attention in class and you will be fine. Has lots of reading and cases to do, but every is straight forward. She gives good examples in class that makes it easy to follow along. Overall great experience.
