this teacher is very fun, clear, and helpful. She tells you exactly what to do and how to do it so just pay attention! there is a LOT of hw but she also gives out extra credit.

Very engaging, and enjoyable class. Gives out lots of small homeworks, so be on top. Gives out lots of enjoyable activities in class. No tests, just papers. Show up to class and you will be fine. And do the reading!

She's really cool. She gives out a lot of homeworks but you learn a lot and she admires hard workers. If I get a chance, I would definitely take her class again.

She's one of the coolest and easiest professor's there are. She really expalins and let's you use notes for both midterm and final-you really don't need them. This is the only AAS class i've taken and learned a lot.

If you're an AAS major/minor... I recommend taking "Turnquino" at least for one class (pref. Pop Culture) Yes, there was a 60 page research paper but notes, graphs, and pictures count as a page... don't let the syl. intimidate you, she's a fun professor and very down to earth!!! Turnmeyer is probably the best teacher you can get for AAS english. she really knows what she's talking about for sure. The only bad thing is that there was a crap load of work we had to do like below people have said. and the LRC, the evil LRC >:[ otherwise, really fair and nice teach. Just make sure to divi up your time accordingly!

I really like her, she knows how to clearly explain. She may be demanding, but if you keep up and follow her suggestions-- it's great. I like the LRC because their advice is helpful. Of course they are not going to write our papers for us, we are the writers. But the ppl I've gotten have been helpful and Turnmeyer is awesome!! Take her!

I would have to say that she is my FAVORiTE TEACHER in college so far. She makes me think outside the box, and it is no wonder why people love taking her class again. Prof. Turnmeyer is a great teacher, she leads you into understanding concepts and basically tells you everything you need to know in a clear & informative way for papers and presentations. The only reason you wouldn't want to take her is if you don't want to do presentations and papers, but other than that she's the best teacher I've had so far.

Yup, it's all true. Don't put it off, don't procrastinate. Likes to take the opposite position, just to make you think. Crazy quizzes, but it all relates. No midterm and no final cuz she quizzes through the semster, but if you pay attention - it's all good.

Took two classes with her including: AAS 155 and 321. Professor Turnmeyer has passionate in teaching far as what I've observed. She has helped me alot in different subjects outside of her class. In my honest opinion, shes the most inspiring teacher i've ever meet in CSUN. If you are reading this Maria, you know who I am :)

I had this professor for 155,097, and 098. The awsomest professor ever. Great helper. Her syllabus is the key to passing her class. FUN KOOL. Take any of her classes and u'll have a blast! I will take her speech class in the Spring.

Very fun class. A lot of work. However, it depends on your classmates. If you have good classmates then you'll have fun. Just do your work and you'll do well. Don't take this class for granted. I mean, it is pop culture. If you slack off, you'll miss out on the fun and ruin it for the others.

I LOVE HER! She would have to be one of the MOST educated & talented teacher @ CSUN. Don't be fooled. If you would like to get a good grade in this class, you have to earn it. She wants her students to dedicate their time with her classes. Once you do it, it will reflect on your grades. I love speeches and she made me love it MORE after this class.

She is by far the BEST teacher I have ever had. She is so engaging and truly gifted as an educator. This was also one of the hardest classes I have taken as well. Totally worth it! She makes you WANT to learn and do well in her class. The workload was tough but her grading was easy. She just expects you to use your brain, no BS. She is the best!

As long as you get all the work done and show up to class you will do find. Overall Shes my favorite teacher at csun so far i have taken 3 of her classes

Great professor! A LOT of work, but if you do it and go to her for help, you'll do well. Chances for ex-cred. The books were interesting. Didn't like group projects, but were okay. Just stay on top of the workload and don't leave things til the last minute. Loved her class, I learned a lot, got an A, but worked for it. She can fill 2 1/2 hrs!

She was my very first college class ever and it was a great experience. She did such a good job getting everyone to break out of their shell and give speeches we all really had a blast. She has a great sense of humor, is amazingly intelligent, and is beautiful inside and out. I recommend her to anybody for any class she is offering!

One of my first college classes, i will never forget how much this professor changed my perception on this world. This is a literature class... there are exams, papers, presentations and etc. But she really gets you prep'd for college and the real world. Definitely recommended. Go go go

Turnmeyer was my first college professor and she changed my life. She's so energetic and you can tell that she loves her students. Turnmeyer is a fantastic professor I've ever met. Her syllabus is about 100+pages which scary but explains everything. Tons of homework including reading response, personal & group presentation, etc. Her lecture is fun and make you think. Just stand top and work hard you will learn a lot and got an A!

Turnmeyer is GREAT! She helps anytime and anything you ask, even you're no longer her student. Reading is the biggest thing in this class, but you can ask for help if you have problems reading it. Very funny, she shares her little stories sometimes, won't get bored in this class. Strongly recommend this professor!!

I had the opportunity to have her as a professor since the summer of 2013 in her EOP Commuter Bridge & I am taking her again for speech! Do not take her if you don't want to do A LOT of work. However, if you want to challenge yourself, take her. I did my best on this class, and I still got a B. By the way, she won't tell you what you get on your papers. I wonder why. Hmm...

I'm a graduating senior and took Professor Turnmeyer my freshman year and she is the best professor I've had yet. As a freshman she informed us with all the benefits we have as a student (which I wouldn't have known if it wasn't for her). She really helps improve your writing and reading abilities. Prof T. truly cares for her students, and is there to help (in person, or via email). She keeps her word, (if she says, "a possible quiz" don't ignore) and treats everyone equally. Very energetic, always cheerful. Take her assignments/papers seriously. If you want an 'A', do not procrastinate, work hard, and most importantly ask for help/feedback.

You won't regret taking her class. She's outgoing and could be really funny at times. She keeps it 100. If she's not teaching in class, she's speaking about stuff that really matters. I've gain good knowledge by her wisdom and teaching. If you do your work and participate you'll pass with a good grade.

Maria Turnmeyer is not like any other Prof. Her syllabus is clear and she is not the one that is by the book. Skipping class is not a good idea unless you cannot make it for real. She gives good feedback and her lectures are very enjoyable. Make sure you write a lot of notes and read. I would definitely take her class again!

We need more professors like her on campus! She is just amazing all around. She motivates her students and unless you don't motivate yourself, you will fail! There is a lot of work that is done in and outside of class so be prepared and CUT THE LAZINESS OUT!!! It really won't help. At then end of her class you will learn why she did what she did.

Great Teacher. If you show up to class everyday, you will have an easy time. In class, you just show up and listen or talk the entire time. I recommend taking this teacher if you are willing to write easy papers and showing up to class.

I love Prof. Turnmeyer! I really hate public speaking but she made this class fun & interesting. She gives A LOT & I mean a lot of extra credit, & is a really easy grader as long as you just do the speeches. There are about 2 major speeches (50 pts ea.) at the end of the sem. but there are a lot of minor speeches (10 pts ea.) that are pretty easy.

First off, Turnmeyer doesn't take attendance but usually if you miss class you're gonna miss important info such as pairing up in groups or a demo for future speeches. This class is pretty easy, you just need to do both the major speeches and do the majority of the minor speeches to pass. She gives a lot of extra credit and she is really cool!

One of the few Professors that should actually be in this profession! Professor Turnmeyer truly cares about her students and I felt very inspired by her lectures and her little tips throughout the semester. All her assignments are meaningful and she gives students the freedom to express themselves with their speeches. That made it super fun!

Prof. T makes public speaking challenging, yet invigorating for her students. I left her class with more appreciation for public speakers as well as more confidence in myself (about the subject). Throughout the sem, there are more than a dozen speeches to prepare for, and 2 final speeches at the end. She also gives out several E.C. opportunities!

On the first day of class, the professor stated that we would have to do many speeches, some of which required singing or dancing. I wanted to drop the class, but decided not to, and I'm glad I didn't. I didn't realize how easy it was to pass this class as long as you participate and try, and many times you have the choice of working with a group.

Shes an amazing professor! Would 100% take her class again. Shes hilarious and she cares a lot for her students. Make sure you dont procrastinate, because you cannot finish all of the essays and journals given to you in a span of one week.

Public speaking is not easy by any means, but Professor Turnmeyer really made me feel comfortable on the first day. I use to be afraid of doing presentations, but this class has allowed me to have more confidence in myself. It really isn't a challenging class, to be honest. Just make sure to pay attention to the guidelines and you'll do good.

One of my best english classes ever. First, do your work and you will do well. Do your assignments on time because you have so much other work to do. I loved the class. I got to meet new people due to her group work. She knows what she is doing. Her organization is amazing and everything is on her syllabus. Be a responsible adult.

Honestly one of the greatest professors I have ever encountered, she is the sweetest woman and will help those who request it. Took here for both English, (AAS115) and Speech (AAS 151) and both of those classes were filled with special moments and exciting stories. Bottom-line, if you can take her do it and never look back.

Prof Turnmeyer is the best! Took in Fall 2019. She cares for her students & is very organized. HER SYLLABUS HAS EVERYTHING, SO READ IT!! Be prepared to get creative w/ your assignments and have fun w/ it. Finish all projects ASAP bc there will be more! Final was 10 pg paper w/ topic of your choice. Highly recommend, you will learn a lot from her.

One of the best teachers I've ever had. Throughout my life, I've struggled with speaking to groups without stuttering and my voice shaking, but she creates an environment you feel comfortable in while giving you the best feedback possible. I recommend her to everyone!

I took this class back in Fall 21 as a freshman. I'm a junior now, and she is still hands down one of the best professors I have had. My great grandma passed away towards the end of the semester in December and she extended the final paper for me as I was super busy supporting my family and also gave me kind words for the rough time I was having.

I absolutely hated presenting but she made it fun. TBH: If you're as anxious as me, you'll probably not get over your phobia of public speaking. She was really considerate when I had to miss a couple of sessions, so she let me make up my missed presentations another time. She warns you before the semester starts bc there's acting, ASL+dancing, etc.

A huge sweetheart. So so so so nice and understanding. Chatting with her and the class was really fun, until burnout hit me. Few things, though. AAS 115 is two semesters of work put into one, so hope you're ready. Two, she can definitely go on with her lectures a bit too long. Other than that, she's one of the best literature professors on campus.

Her colleague Tang is also top notch within the AAS department. Class wise she is flexible so long as you talk to her. Grades generously and gives amazing feedback. Truly a gem of a teacher.
