Great teacher!! I actually look forward to her class. Her tests are fair and class is actually entertaining. I would definitely recommend.
She is very nice and I look forward to her class. We have good discussions and the time goes by very quickly. Good class and teacher
Since I took this class as a four hour class it got really long, but she did make it entertaining sometimes. The tests were also pretty easy, just read the chapter in the book or listen in the lecture and you should do fine. Take her for psych, but don't take the 4 hour psych class-too long
She is really awesome!
She's a great teacher! I loved her and would recommend her to anybody. I had the 4 hour class on fridays and she always tried to do something interesting.
The class is fun and interesting. She involves the class a lot and it really helps. Exams are hard but all you need to do is study your notes. I highly recomend her for psych 100, it's a great class!
Marie does a wonderful job teaching this material. She makes it interesting, gets the class involved, and doesn't expect too much of you. She realizes that this is a required class, so she does her best to just help you get through it.....and there's no final cumulative exam!!! Just five mini ones
She's an excellent professor, explains the material well. For a 4 hour night class, it was fun and she keeps you involved. I would recommend her over anyother professor.
Wow, she is really a great professor! I learned a lot and had fun too!
I don't know what these other people were rating on.. maybe she's easy for psych 100 but nothing else. She can't lecture to save her soul and her tests are insane. She gives you a study guide but it's very UNHELPFUL. DO NOT TAKE!
She is very knowledgeable on the subject, however, she cannot relay that info. to her students. The tests are very hard, m.c. where all the answers are similar and tests on petty stuff from the book that don't even matter. Would definately not recommend taking her.
This is my favorite professor of the semester! She keeps me focused for the 2 hours that I have her and she always lets us out like 20 minutes early. Just read the material and go to class and study for the exams and you will be fine. The chapters are long but pretty interesting so not too bad.
She was a great teacher. Very personable and fun. She made the two hour class fly by.
Dr. C is very intelligent, and she expects you to learn the material. Go to class and LISTEN to lectures! She builds extra points into the exams, which is fair in my book. She made a class that I was dreading very interesting. Definitely recommended if you actually want to learn something.
Really boring class, read the book for exams don't bother going to class to listen to her boring lectures. Just go to class to turn little homework assignments in.
Very nice lady, class is very easy and she is fun. I would highly reccomend her. Easily one of the best profs at SVSU. Kinda cute too...
Marie is one of my favorite professors at SVSU. She makes psych very interesting and fun. She knows alot and the work isn't that bad either.
Dr. Cassar is not only a good professor, but a really cool person too!
She will help you and anwer every question you asked. Nice professor.
I had it on Tuesdays from 6-10p, but because she taught it, I loved this class. Cassar made it easy and very interesting. Even after four hours, I always left class thinking about the concepts and wanting to know more. GO TO CLASS. Most testing based on lecture. If you're unclear on something, she's very helpful in making you understand. Take her!!
dr.cassar made statistics really interesting and actually sort of fun. she is really easy to get along with and is very clear about what she wants. i would definately recommend her to anyone.
Great teacher for experimental. She is helpful and funny. For data/comp class, there is no teaching. She is there to help, but you follow the book on your own.
Good teacher. Interesting class. Math made fun. Enough said.
Dr. Cassar is an excellent teacher. Incredibly easy to get along with, makes her expectations very clear. If you need help she's more than willing to provide it. I will definitely be taking her again - best at SVSU so far!
SOOOOO nice. I would take her 1000 times... The class is easy cuz you understand, test can be hard if you dont study.. But even if u dont study, the stuff she teaches sticks with you.
I really liked her. She was always willing to help and answer questions. She is kinda goofy thought, but that is what made class interesting. She does get a bit crazed when it comes to papers and APA format.
Great Prof. She is very funny and laughs with the group. She is very understanding and offers a lot of Extra Credit. Take advantage of this because the test are challenging.
Great Prof. She makes the class very enjoyable and is very helpful in everything. She is very understanding and has no problem working with you if needed. She stimulates a lot of class discussions. Very knowlegable.
Dr. Cassar is by far the BEST professor I've had at SVSU. I think what makes her that way is the fact that she knows what its like to be a student & she doesn't push the fact that she's got a PhD like some do. She cares about her students, is very helpful, & just easy to talk to. Yes, u still need to work for your grade, but it is worth it!
BEST PROF I HAVE EVER HAD...... words couldn't tell you..
She's crazy but I loved it! Super nice, brings humor into her lectures and also tries to get the class involved. Plenty of chances for extra credit. Exams can be difficult, but if you attend class and study a bit, it shouldn't be too bad. I would definitely take her again.
OK, so the lectures were pretty boring, but that is because I took the 4 hour class on monday nights. I ended up leaving at first break and I paid for it. Exams are extremely difficult. Homework is easy though, which makes it easier to get a good grade. She explains everything with GREAT detail and swears which makes it much more fun!
Dr. Cassar was a good professor but expect to stay the entire time. She hardly ever let us out early. Her test were some what challenging so make sure you study. She was a good teach and was alway willing to help students when needed. Make sure you take advantage of the extra credit she give alot of extra credit.
I absolutely loved her class! She was crystal clear about her expectations of us and she was willing to help me out when I had to miss a class... I would definately recommend her to everyone taking a PSYC course

Good class. Makes learning the material super easy! No tests or quizzes just writing assignments which did require a lot of time! Plus she is easy to talk to and will answer any of your questions concerning your major in psychology! You can actually trust her answers too cause she knows what she is doing!
Excellent professor. Really easy to get along with. She made class interesting and related to the students very well. I would definitly take another class with Cassar!
Dr. Cassar is awesome. She is very nice, smart, but DOWN TO EARTH and funny. She will help you and break things down so you understand them easier. She will even help you with other psyc classes you don't have her for. MY FAVORITE PROF AT SVSU- HANDS DOWN!
If you are not skilled in math, do not take if you're expecting to do well. I study my tail off and am going to barely pass. Cassar is a nice woman, she is helpful, but the lectures seem to drag on.
I've had Dr. Cassar for Psyc 299,302,305,345 & 345 Lab. She is by far the best Prof at SVSU! Relates to students well, VERY helpful, and you learn alot. I definitely recommend!
Terrible...what are these morons talking about. She must really dumb it down for psych 100. She doesn't know a statistic from a hole in the ground so DONT TAKE HER for Psych 299. If you do you better hope you are a math wiz because she doesn't know how to teach math, period.
she's actually very knowledgeable in statistics, person below must not have gone to class. very helpful and pretty damn sexy.
Not the best professor ever but not the worst. About average. Grades on a curve which is nice. Talks too slow, lose her halfway through the point she is trying to make.
Stats is a tough course, so don't expect to ace it. Her expectations are very clear and she grades the exams on a curve. Study guides are helpful. She's flaky with her office hours though, and it takes her a while to post grades online and reply to e-mails. She does a good job at making stats fun though. I loved her dry humor!
Dr. Cassar is the silliest lady I've ever met. She cracks the corniest jokes you will ever hear. The class was hard because it's Stats, but she did a great job trying to make it fun. She is pretty cool. I'd recommend her over the boring OLD guys.
Hard class, but she is a good professor. Grades are based on exams, so make sure you study your tail off. Go to class, because it's the only way you'll do well.
Kinda weird funny. It was hard for me to stay focused, she took a lot of time explaining things out in detail when all that was required was a yes or no answer. Doesn't really match my learning style, but is very nice and try's to do what she can for her students.
Not a tough course, but I really didn't like the layout. Her teaching style requires you to have patience. Sometimes she would be joking and very helpful, while other times she would snap when you ask a question. Although I did fine in the course, I can't say I learned much from it, other than how to copy examples from the book and our notes...
This class is long 4 hours
Had Dr. Cassar for two classes this semester & never minded going to either. She was always upbeat in class & never boring. She made learning stats interesting, even though it's not. She loves teaching & is very funny. I would definitely recommend her to everyone & would take more of her courses if they were a part of my major!
Actually really funny and helpful teacher! For stats being a dreadful subject she made it fun. I consistently got better in the class. 4 tests and 6 homework assignments. Offers study sessions as well. Not a blow off class but if you pay attention in class and mildly study you will do just fine
Boring class but you really learn how to use statistics programs. She is very helpful. No homework, in class exercises only! No midterm, just a final. If you pay attention and keep all of your work, all you have to do is organize right before the final and you are all set! She makes a boring topic fun and the class time flies by
She is fun and easy to listen to, however her tests are extremely hard and tricky. More than half of our class gets below a D on each exam. Offers extra credit, but only 5 pts a semester. Overall it is not a super hard class but I would not reccomend her.
Best professor I've had at SVSU! She makes the material relateable by using examples related to her life. She is very clear in her notes, and the tests are pretty easy and straightforward if you study (or maybe thats just me because I am a psychology major...) She gives extra credit! Amazing amazing! :)
Has an odd sense of humor, is really friendly and eclectic. Knowledgeable on the subject. Grades easily - exams are very passable if you take the time to fill in the page-long study guide. Assignments are brief. A good teacher to have for such a dull course.
fun teacher, not to hard
Dr. Cassar is the best professor I have ever had i look forward to taking her other psychology classes
Cassar was a great professor! I love her! Her exams were harder than what she explained in class, but if you study you'll get a good grade.
Love her. You get 10 homework assignments and 5 in class quizzes and 5 multiple choice exams (50 Q's an exam). If you show up on a regular basis and study her reviews, you should easily get a B even if its difficult for you. Her exams are basically definitions of words. And you do need your book.
Took her in the spring semester to avoid Peterson, and the class flew by. Two big assignments, but as long as you follow format you're golden. Two books with weekly reading, but all very easy. She makes class enjoyable too.
Extremely fun professor. There were two big assignments due (Annotated bib and research proposal) but she was great at helping with all my questions. Lectures were engaging and she often makes you really think about seemingly trivial things. She also gives hints about other professors and how to get the most out of being a psych major.
Love Love Love Dr. Cassar. I wish she taught more classes so I could take her all the time. She's extremely easy to listen to, and even tries to have fun in a class that is usually boring - 302. She is one of my all time favorite professors. Take her every chance you get!
So, I had an interesting time in Dr. Cassar's class. She was teaching something that she normally didn't teach, so I think that threw things off. But I had a really tough time keeping up in her class. I was so close to falling asleep each time, but I don't think that's her fault. She's hilarious and engaging, but the time and material was meh.
Dr. Cassar is by far the most entertaining professor I have ever had. I had a 4 hour class with her, and she always knew how to involve the class and include humor in her lectures. Class was composed of 5 exams, 6 pop-quizzes, and 4 experiment participations. I highly recommend her. She knows her material and is quite engaging.
One of the best professors I have ever had. Her lectures are hilarious and you learn a ton. She can take complex concepts and break them down. Exams are tough but unique - she doesn't just pull them from the textbook. TON of respect for her. I had no interest in cognitive before her course but now it's one of my favorite subjects!
Awesome professor. I had her for an online class so I sadly did not get to hear her hilarious lectures. However if you have to ask her anything, email her and she answers quickly and is very helpful while doing so. Will absolutely take her again!
Cassar is a good professor. This is a computer class, and she gives perfect outlines on what to do for each assignment. Books is sometimes referenced. Do quality work and show up to class and you will get an A.
Tons of 5 point assignments that are graded to the tee. Midterm was hard, final was easier and she did put a curve on both tests. One 7 page paper was given but you were expected to know when to start it, semi-clear instructions on how to do it. Overall, nice class and professor.
Goes through each assignment with you, although not every one is clear on the instructions. Her grading for these assignments are a little unclear since we are learning what to do and don't fully understand the proper format. Will try and clear things up if needed. Book was hardly used. Test's weren't too difficult since they were open notes.
Gets extremely side tracked and not that great at teaching. Not prepared for class or on time . Very few grades so tests are a huge portion of that grade. No extra credit but does give curves on tests.
LOVE HER! She makes even the more boring topics super interesting. Lectures make you think and her study guides are awesome to help you prepare for exams. Super understanding and willing to help. I entered the class late and she was really helpful getting me caught up! Lots of small participation assignments. I would definitely recommend her!
Dr. Cassar is very nice but is very hard to follow during her lectures due to how often she gets distracted. Topics that should take 20 minutes to cover will take over an hour and a half. Every exam is curved and study guides are given. She refers to the text, it is not necessary to buy and/or read the book- she types up outlined notes to show
There were 5 exams that were all curved and we got study guides. A lot of times the study guides were posted fairly close to the test. She knows what she is talking about but sometimes is a bit scatter brained. We sometimes got out early but not always. Definitely a good choice for gen ed 6. There was also a decent amount of extra credit.
Respected professor, joyful, relatable. Kind of lecture heavy. Go to class and participate you will get an above passing grade.
She gets off topic easy and takes her forever to get back on track. It also takes her forever to get to the point. Great person, not the best teacher.
I love Cassar as a person! Her classes are always very easy. Dont even get the textbook. She curved one of our exams 24% and she curves everything.
Very funny, class is pretty straightforward. You are given a step by step guide for how to use SPSS for each assignment but still learn the applicable skills to make sure you know what you are doing.
She would take all the time you needed to make sure that you understood the material. You have to be the go getter though.
Had one paper all semester. Her lecture is scattered but she gets all the information across eventually. She gives study guides before every test. Don't bother buying the books honestly, just a waste of money since she just lectures about it anyways. I would say only buy the book if you want more clarification on some things.
Marie is super sweet and funny but like mentioned is very scatterbrained. Three hour lecture wouldn't even take up two pages of notes. Do NOT be fooled by the simplicity of information in lecture, the exams are not common sense easy questions. They're quite challenging as is her grading on your final paper.
Marie is very scatterbrained and lost half of the time. She talks nonstop but makes it to where everything she says leads into something irrelevant and so you're just confused. Her notes are not helpful, very vague and she just throws it on the whiteboard very disorganized so your notes will not be organized or helpful at all.
Very nice lady and makes the class easy and interesting. Attendance is not mandatory and she does not require you to buy a book. Grade is determined by 4 exams, small online quizzes, and final. Go to class and know the topics on the study guide and it will be an easy class. Although, it can be very difficult to contact her.
Great professor who really cares about her students. She orchestrated thoughtful conversation around Psychology and was very kind.
Prof Cassar is an okay professor. All assignments and tests were online due to pandemic, which was nice. But her grading criteria was so vague on assignments and she's so unorganized. On the final there were q's that didn't even include the correct answer in the given options. However, she does curve exams and gives various small e.c. chances.
I wasn't a big fan of how she presented her lectures for an online class, no videos or anything just pdfs, but I would take her again for an in person class. she's really helpful and caring and wants to see you succeed. I talked with her on teams for like half an hour once about topic ideas for my paper than another hour just about life and stuff
Dr. Cassar is wonderful. She makes sure everyone understands the concepts while still keeping the lectures lively with her humor. Definitely use her office hours, they're extremely helpful - especially when it comes time to write your research paper. Textbook isn't necessarily needed - each chapter is discussed in class.
This professor is very caring as stated before. But she gets very very sidetracked. If you are a person who cares about learning or understanding material this may not be the class. Don't get me wrong she is an amazing person, just not the greatest professor. I am a person who wants to learn as much as I can, and 20 minute lectures took 3 hours.
She is so nice! Always open to answer questions and explains it well. She does get a little sidetracked sometimes though. Other than that, the class was pretty easy and enjoyable!
Dr. Cassar was nice, but her lectures in this class were unnecessarily long. She is, however, an amazing professor and well-respected in the Psychology Department. I think that she is a good choice for 202, especially when it comes to getting the essential information you need to grow and be successful in the Psychology program.
Marie Cassar is probably one of the most confusing professors at SVSU. Her work is ridiculously hard for a 200 level psychology course and her assignment directions are never clear. Her quizzes and discussions are just ridiculous and hair pulling hard for no reason. Avoid this mess
One of the kindest and most understanding professors I have ever had. The class was difficult, I do not recommend taking it online or in an accelerated semester. Not a lot of opportunities to earn points. Tests are rather difficult. However, you can pass the class even if you do poorly on exams but do well on the final paper.
Easy to communicate with. A pleasant class.
really cool prof. but she can stray off-topic quite often. doesn't post anything on canvas until the day before.
Grade was only determined by 5 assignments, but they helped greatly with furthering the required honors thesis research. There was a proposal paper, presentation, annotated bib, and 2 other non-related assignments. Lectures were very odd, and sometimes she says some weird things ("in my crystal ball I can see you will all have kids").
she can kind of go off on other stories when lecturing, but at least they related to what she is lecturing about. also she pretty nice and cool
this professor is SO HARD if you are not a psych major. Im a psych minor and she never slows down, barely explains questions, makes all the tests confusing, even after studying for 3 days straight. shes nice and funny so that is a plus, it makes going to class fun, but as far as tests and papers, she is HARSH. Unless you want to study for days dont
Dr. Cassar is a nice person, but lectures are unnecessarily long. Exams are cumulative and she gives a study guide, so take good notes. Textbooks are required for a few assignments, but the library has them, or you can take pics of someone's textbook instead. She changes due dates a lot, so be prepared for unpredictability.
Jumps around from topic to topic. Lectures are frustrating.
Please do not take her if at all possible. Most reviews on here seem good but anyone I have spoken to tells me the same things about her. She is not understanding, lectures are long and hard to pay attention to and she is all over the place. The class itself was not entirely difficult as long as you study outside of the classroom.
For the most part she's nice but lecures are over 3 hours long and the exams HARD.
Dr. Cassar has a great personality; however, her class itself was beyond difficult for me. I've had her twice, and both experiences I had to learn the majority through my own teaching at home. The class had to practically beg her for study guides as the majority was failing throughout the semester. This could have been because the class was online.
Dr.Cassar brings all of her wisdom into her lectures. You can tell she loves her job. Some arent a fan of the lecture time, but its only once a week for three hours opposed to twice a week for 1.5 so its exactly the same and shes mindful about providing short breaks. Consider studying for application over retention, you will be tested on application
Cassar is a fun person. She does find alternative ways to explain things if confused, but she has this unique ability to, unintentionally, make you feel dumb asking ?s. If you learn by lecture without slides (NO recording or pics), and reading, you'll do fine. 400 pts. on three (curved) exams, a paper (6-7 pgs), and a presentation. - an A student.
