Heavy textbook usage, lots of reading required & you can't get away with not reading on tests/quizzes. Syllabus is dense, try reading ahead, this professor was behind in both 146A & 146B, but she did not minimize our reading, she expected us to do it all regardless of her organizational skills.

Tests consist of essays & identifications, meaning that after you read 1/4 of the syllabus, (20 or so works; full poems, stories, letters, etc...from various authors), you are given a single quote & expected to know the name of the work, author, & its context. Not a class I'd recommend for the light/casual reader or a non-English major.

Don't take this class if you like having some free time, she gives tons of work! Also, she wasn't clear enough on a lot of assignments so I would email her ahead of time and I wouldn't get a response until the day it was due. Really messed up professor... avoided me when I tried talking to her. Wouldn't recommend her!!!!

Eckstrom gives lots of homework, and she takes grading very seriously(No E.C). I suppose she is a good professor, but her attitude is terrible. Eckstrom makes it obvious when she doesnt want to help you, I took her for English 101 and I asked her for help several times, and she either gave a snappy reply or she didnt reply at all via email.

Always late in a very foul mood likes to yell always talks about things that are inappropriate or unprofessional likes to hear herself talk very nit picky on the MLA forms.. she once sent me 6 emails pertaining JUST TOWARD HEADER. You get 12 assignments over the course of 6 weeks for summer. There are multiple questions that require long critical thinking responses. If you try to get by with 3-5 sentence answers, you most likely won't get good grades. The possible points are 4 so there is minimal room for errors. If you do the work, as assigned, you'll pass.

very interesting for me, BUT there were so many essays and close deadlines. Each class there are at least 2 homework assignments due. She is a tough grader and does not accept late work. Very heavy workload and is only 3 credits for a class that feels like 4 units. Lots of reading and often would not explain material enough RIO is very small MARIE!

I'm not sure if she knows how to use Canvas. Quizzes & exams could be difficult only because many questions didn't match the material & felt poorly written or outdated. I do not mind studying a lot, but there's only so much you can do. I would encourage the professor to go beyond the minimum for her students.
