read the books, talk in class, and ask for help on the essays and write them. shes great
Such a good professor. Really cares about her students and just wants them to participate in class. Lenient with due dates, really wants her students to do well. Definitely take her, she's so sweet.
She is so nice, is willing to help no matter what. She is very clear her tests are very long and usually go over the time for class but if you try hard she notices the effort. One of the best teachers I have had here.
She is a nice lady but she is a pretty tough grader I thought. None of her assignments are handed in, everything is done online which can be annoying. I personally wouldn't take her again. She is a nice lady but I found her grading to be difficult.
Prof. Hulme is awesome! Outstanding professor whom I enjoyed so much. I was sad when the class ended. I thought I would hate the class and I absolutely loved it, so did most everyone else too. Take this class!
AWFUL! assigns four papers which she grades incredibly biased based on how much she likes you. Gives you edits for the paper and then tells you they're wrong. I would never take her again even if I was paid.
Hulme is really nice, but she assigns a lot of work. She expects you to be very thorough with everything you do and weighs participation VERY highly.
Professor Hulme was always more than fair. Actually the class was pretty enjoyable & easy to get through, as long as you read the assigned material & participated. For what you lacked in your papers, she would give you credit for with participation. She is an amazing person & takes time to help her students, I would take her again in a heartbeat.
Prof. Hulme is an amazing professor. She is considerate, kind and truly cares about the well being of her students. It is an absolute pleasure to take her class. As long as you read the material and participate in class, you will be rewarded with the grade you deserve. She is a fair grader. Overall, she is an amazing teacher! Definitely take her!
Very tough grader, and can be unclear at some times. Also turns assignments back very late, with little to no comments on what you did wrong or how you can improve. Do the work or else..
She is really nice and helpful. Some of her assignments are difficult, but not too bad.
I LOVED her so much! She is so helpful and always there when you need her. She taught me skills on how to write a really good paper that I will use for the rest of my college career. She is the sweetest woman and she truly cares for her students! :)
Amazing professor!! She was so helpful! She taught me how to write a great paper! She one of the best professors ! She truly cares about her students! She is so sweet and is easy to talk too!
Easily one of my favorites! She's fair and 1 of the sweetest ones out there, and even helped me out when I wasn't her student nor advisee. Her willingness and commitment in and out of the class, wanting the students to really improve in writing and also helping me write my transfer essays for NYU. She also gladly wrote a recommendation. I got in!
She doesn't teach, she gives more than 20 "assignments" and thinks that is teaching. The class is filled with busy work and feels like a high school class where the teacher doesn't know or understand the subject. Keep as far away from her and this class as you can!
One of my favorite professors, I would definitely take a class with Professor Hulme again. Even though the class was not on a topic I would necessarily be interested in, she made it very interesting and enjoyable. She is always there if you need help or anything, too and she genuinely wants to help all her students and wants them to pass.
Such a wonderful woman. She expects you to do all the work and follow due dates just like any other class. Respect her and she will definitely take notice. She made English a subject that I became more interested in. She's seriosly the sweetest lady and loves her students especially those who show interest. Totally recommend this class with her!
I took her class because it was required, the most boring class and boring teacher I ever had. She didn't help us understand the books we read and was focused ion herself. Don't sign up.
She's a very sweet woman who genuinely cares about students, and as long as you pay attention and read the books, you'll do just fine.
She's such a sweet lady! She genuinely cares about her students and if you respect her and put in even the slightest effort she will notice. There's a decent amount of homework but it's easy to get good grades on them, and all of her exams are so easy. I wasn't a big fan of the class itself but having her as a teacher made it okay!
This is supposed to be an honors class but is not taught like one. This is more a class in how to work on projects. The teacher doesn't seem to know the books and wants us to make up for what she does not know on out own. I'm glad it's almost over. Find another teacher.
Too many projects. Teacher is OK but I won't take her again and don't recommend her.
Professor Hulme is by far the best instructor I have ever had in my academic career. She truly cares about her students and wants them to succeed. She is always available for extra help when you need it. Not only did she make me a better writer, but she also helped me to analyze text more closely. I would without a doubt take her again!
Professor Hulme was great from the start. The first class she gave us a speech asking, "Who strives to be ordinary?" the class stood silent. She then exclaimed "Exactly! So lets strive to be extraordinary this semester!" That is precisely how the semester went. Class discussion was engaging. Truly a pleasure, the best class I had this semester.
The material is good but the teaching of it was not. We did not talk about the books the way an honors class should, the teacher was not able to lead discussions. As an honors class we should expect the best teaching since we pay enough to go here. This class did not give us what we needed.
Professor Hulme genuinely cares about all of her students. She is passionate about the subject which makes it more interesting and easy to understand. She wants everyone to participate, and it honestly made the content and assignments more enriching for me. She truly wants you to succeed and is always available for extra help, such a nice woman!
Prof Hulme is such so sweet. She is willing willing to help if you reach out to her, which I really encourage doing. She can grade harshly at times, but it tends to be fair. The work load wasn't terrible at all, and she honestly made me a better writer, and better participator in my other classes. I would totally take her again!
Professor Hulme is one of the nicest and most sincere professors I have met at Sacred Heart. In my Honors English class, Professor Hulme used a project based curriculum where we created an interactive website about the Odyssey. Making English more fun! Basically, as long as you participate and put in the necessary effort, you will get a great grade
This was a below average class with a below average teacher. I'm not a English major but know that honors classes in English should be about more than making a video, She couldn't talk abut books. That's a class in media or communication. There's lots of better teachers and better classes than this one
The class is OK if you have to take it. Teacher is OK, nothing special.
One of the best honors classes that I have ever taken. Great professor who doesn't just want you to read long books and sit in a boring class and talk about it! We made a website which was so much fun. Nicest women that I have ever met! Participate in class and do the work (which is not even hard) and you are guaranteed a good grade!
Some of the reading was ok but the teacher wasn't able to lead any good discussions. She is a nice lady but not a very good teacher and I'm not sure I really want to take another class in English because of this class, good thing I don't have to.
Went to class because I had to go. If you don't need this class, don't take it with this teacher.
She is a great teacher and tried very hard to make the readings fun and understandable for everyone. I would take her again if I could.
Very good professor. Midterm grade was a B and decided I needed to step it up so I spoke with her and I applied myself much more in the second half and got an A. Participation is an important factor and she prepares you for success by enforcing that. No matter what you end up doing, participation is going to be a key to success.
Excellent professor! You will be introduced to some great pieces of classic literature. Prof. Hulme is very passionate and does everything possible to engage students. She cares about her students and is available to answer questions about the material covered or assignments. Take this class. You will not be sorry.
Professor Hulme is a very passionate and warm hearted person who made learning English an extremely inspiring and positive experience. Professor Hulme's class is what you make it so paying attention and getting involved in class makes it all the better. She really values participation and you will learn so much more in class. Very Inspiring teacher
I signed up for this class because I had to. This teacher is not as good as my high school teachers. She can't teach college, gives too many silly projects, and the class is boring. Save yourself the trouble and sign up for any body else. I wish I had.
She cares a lot about her students both inside and outside the classroom! Very passionate, tries her best to teach us life skills and understands the difficulties of freshman year. Highly recommend taking her.
Prof. Hulme is an outstanding teacher. She absolutely cares about her students and their level of success not only in her course, but other courses and in life in general. Her door is always open for extra help. If you pay attention, participate in class, and do what you're supposed to do, you'll be fine in any of her classes. She is great.
This course is required to graduate, there are many teachers teaching it. This teacher always seems confused and not able to get discussions going, no one liked this class of all the people I talked to.
Professor Hulme was one of the most inspiring and sweetest teachers I've ever met in my life. I am so blessed to have known such a caring and passionate person. She wanted her students to do the best they could and made assignments very reasonable to succeed in. I highly recommend taking her because she genuinely loves all of her students.
Both the professor and the short stories were good in class. It was a variety of different genres and the professor really cared about the students. You must submit things on time and stay on top of the assignments. I enjoyed the class and teacher.
This teacher tries to get us to talk but no one does because she is so uninteresting and doesn't know how to teach us. I took this class because it was the one that fit my schedule (too many science courses!) I should of changed my science schedule so I didn't have to take THIS teacher!
I'm currently taking her online & the amount of work she makes us do each week is more work than what I do for the classes for my major. She posts vague instructions for discussions & journals & then grades you harshly & says you didn't do it exactly how she wanted even tho she didn't specify how she wanted it in the directions. Avoid at all costs!
Professor Hulme was one of the nicest professors I have ever had. I enjoyed going to class every week, even though it was for CIT. She does make you write 2-3 papers throughout the semester and do discussion posts after every class but she made the class so interesting. I would definitely take her again if I could!
This woman is amazing. She is the best professor I have ever had. I plan on taking her next year for CIT. She is incredibly understanding, if you are having trouble she is more than willing to work with you. She also wants her whole class to know she is there for all of her students. This is very true, I suggest staying after class and talking to h
Professor Hulme is the sweetest lady ever!!!!!!!!!! It is evident that teaching is her passion and truly cares about each students success. This class was an easy A with minimal course load. Professor Hulme also makes the class interesting and attempts to connect it to life beyond the classroom.
Very nice lady. easy A. She is very understanding. Didn't have to write one essay, yay.
Prof. Hulme was a very good person however I really didn't enjoy having her as a professor. She was way too easy and I found myself extremely bored. Most of the readings I had done in High School and she covered material way too slowly. Class discussion was dull. Overall, if your looking for an easy A take her.
Online class, she is the most boring professor ever, and the work load is unbelievable. This shouldn't be a class I stress over this much. Do NOT take a class with her!!!!!!
By far one of the most passionate professors at Sacred Heart. She truly challenges you to not only become a better reader and writer but a better student overall. The workload of this class is no more than you would have in a traditional in person class. Manage your time, do the readings and assignments and it will show in your grade. Take her!!!!!
Professor Hulme is AMAZING. This class really made me appreciate literature and understand the importance of it. If you do your work with apparent effort and on time you will have no issues. I would take this class again!!
Professor Hulme is amazing! I highly recommend taking this class. It is by no means easy, but put the time and effort in and it will pay off. She is always there to help, and she is so passionate about what she teaches. Inspires you to be a better student. She also keeps class interesting by using Flipgrid to talk to classmates virtually. AMAZING!
I love Professor Hulme. She pushes me to do my best and I think I have really improved with my literature skills from this class. If you do your work on time you will have no problems.
Not my #1 choice if others are available
Professor Hulme is one of the best professors at SHU! She is kind, understanding, and a lovely woman in general. I HIGHLY recommend taking her for English or CIT because she is the best. She works with you when you do not understand something and knows that you're trying your hardest. Do your work on time and she is happy.
Professor Hulme is the best! As long as you do the work and participate you'll get a good grade. Its a simple english class that can fill a requirement which is at the level of a high school class. She is always available to talk and is super sweet!
Professor Hulme gives a decent amount of homework but it's never anything too difficult. The class reminds me of my English class in junior year of high school. If you do all your work on time and participate now and then, the class will be an easy A.
Really cares about the student getting a good grade. An enjoyable person to be around especially to have leading a class.
One of the nicest teachers here, good amount of writing but she made CIT better than you would expect
I took Hulme's online class and whenever I had a question she was always understanding and available. She gives a manageable amount of work each week and it was all super easy content that only took a couple of hours to do. You do need to read the two texts she assigns or you won't be able to complete the tests she assigns.
I picked this class random to fill an elective and it honestly wasn't that bad. Classes are given in modules each week to be turned on Monday and the work isn't bad. Many opportunities to get a good grade and would def take again. Also easy to contact over email with any questions.
This class was a lot easier than an in person class would've been. She isn't a tough grader as long as you do what she asks for and turn it in on time. Flipgrids were assigned almost every week to keep students connected and try to engage them. She answer emails pretty fast. Books are necessary but reading quizzes are very easy!
I took experiencing literature online. Prof Hulme is very easy to contact. She gives clear directions on what she is looking for. If you do the work AT LEAST 2 days before its due you will be fine as long you put time in! Dont wait until the last minute. She gives you a week to do everything & its not much! Also, you can do it on ur own time.
The happiest woman you will ever meet! Always smiling! She gives great feedback and is ALWAYS there to support you/ give you guidance in your academic or personal life. She really wants you to succeed and will meet with you whenever you feel you are struggling in school or in your own life. The work is easy, but ofc you have to put effort into it!
Lots of assignments each week, a few multiple choice tests but lots and lots of readings. Not a horrible class but definetly had to put in the work for an A.
I took this class online and it was super easy. Started off as busy work and got slightly more challenging but nothing that I couldn't get done in 2 hours for the week. She was super clear and quick with her feedback and responded to emails almost right away. I emailed her a few times and she seems like a really nice lady.
I took her this past semester for ENG245. It was all online she would post the module on Monday and we had to the following Monday at 8pm to complete work. A lot of reading. Three quizzes but weighted heavy
I took Professor Hulme in Experience Literature in the fall semester, but if you get the chance to take her, DO IT. I was skeptical at first from reading these reviews to take her or not, but I am glad I did. She is very understanding. Her assignments did not take long and she did not provide lectures for my online class, just work every week.
I'm shocked by her other low ratings... Prof Hulme is the sweetest and most caring professor! She gives work that is fair and will help you succeed in your future. She really doesn't assign much. I could get the week's worth of work done in 2-3 hours. Plus, she is accessible outside of class for anything you need, whether it be academic/ personal.
I have nothing but nice things to say about Professor Hulme, she is an absolutely amazing professor who truly takes her time to get to know you and understand your writing. Personally, I was nervous to take this class but her homework is precise and to the point, she does not waste your time. She is so sweet, take her if you can!
This is a required class for everybody at this college. This teacher teaches like a high school class though my high school English classes were much better by far. Busy work is all you get, nothing interesting in the course and she most of the time doesn't know what she's doing. Lots of other sections of this class find another one!
I took her for ENG265. She's SO CARING and I loved her class. She really cares about her students. In ENG265 you write creative pieces based on health topics and have a lot of inspiring guest speakers come in. I was always excited to go to class
There was a lot of busy work at first, however, modules will get the easier second half of the semester if you're willing to put the work in.Flipgrid was due every week on top of a worksheet or two, don't wait till the last minute to complete these assignments. Nice and thoughtful Professor, would recommend it to anyone who needs to take this course
Doesn't let you use the bathroom.
Professor Hulme is an amazing person and a great teacher. Her creative writing class is great however can last the entire block time. As long as you complete your assignments on time and follow her instructions, you will get a good grade. The final project at the end isn't too bad either. There are assignments each week that can be long.
WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. She is very stingy about technology and will not allow your laptops and readings need to be printed out for class. Don't even think about using the bathroom either because she will yell at you in front of the entire class for it being, "unprofessional". She is a tough grader, and doesn't give feedback.
I feel that the class can be considered easy, but she is a very very tough grader.I found myself wanting to give up because of this, and felt my hard work wasn't enough.
I really enjoyed this class! It truly helped broaden my understanding of health humanities. And I really enjoyed the many guest speakers that visited the class. All of which brought with them different stories and understandings of the topic. I highly recommend this class!!!
Honestly awful for a CIT class. She was very very opinionated on the topics we discusses in class and if you did not agree with her you were wrong and points would be deducted. Never let conversation flow and god forbid it did she would takeover and explain how you are wrong. She is overall a nice woman but not a good professor for this class.
I loved Professor Hulme! She truly cares about her students. There was a good bit of homework in the beginning, but her grading criteria is clear and she always provides good feedback. I loved this class so much that I am now taking another class taught by her.
I truly like Hulme. Theres a required meeting with her and she took immense interest in my life. I could tell she really cares to learn about her students, and she's passionate about what she teaches. Work load seems like a lot, but for a once a week class, it was easy to spread the work out throughout the week. Not hard work, just time consuming.
She cares about her students, but she really takes the "9 hours of work a week" thing seriously. I took it as a honors credit and she makes sure she gives extra work for it. But is really accommodating if you go to her office hours. Make sure you participate to get a good grade
