Stickler on APA but helpful and informative. Quick feedback and great discussion during group supervision. VERY knowledgable!!
Dr. Isom was very fair and extremely helpful. Careful attention paid to APA formatting, however she was clear in her feedback as to what I needed to fix. She challenged us and I feel better prepared for my future role as a school counselor.
Dr. Isom was great! She was very helpful and insightful as well as personable. Her ability to adapt in the middle of a course made that transition for myself as a student very smooth.
Dr. Isom is an excellent professor who is supportive and gives excellent feedback. It would be a pleasure to take another class with her!
Dr. Isom is very knowledgeable in the field of school counseling. She is extremely helpful and fair in assignments and has given me great feedback. She has definitely taught me the skills I need to succeed as a future school counselor.
slow to grade
Dr. Isom was very helpful, knowledgeable, and is passionate about the field. She even wrote a letter of recommendation for me that helped me obtain my first school counseling job!! I recommend her 100% for anyone taking courses in the program.
Please stay away from this Professor! Extremely slow to grade. Feedback on conferences and assignments are not helpful to the student and does not provide detailed information to help the student grow. If you don't care about growing academically by receiving effective feedback and don't care about your grade, then this is the professor for you.
This is my second time having her as a professor and I've had nothing but a great experience; including when I took her for EDUC 505. She outlines course expectations clearly, is extremely helpful, quick to respond to messages/questions, and overall a great professor. I look forward to taking future classes with her.
Excellent professor, one of the best one's I've had yet!
Really helped me with APA!
Enjoyed this professor and class for my first experience with the university. I hope to take more classes with Dr. Isom!
I was very worried about taking a statistics course. Thanks to Dr. Isom's help, it's been one of my favorite classes so far!
Great professor and very supportive of my learning!
Very knowledgeable teacher. Quick to respond to questions and concerns. The only challenge I had was that some of the assignment descriptions were vaguely worded and left a lot of room for student interpretation. But, as I interpreted what she was asking, I did feel that I was very fairly graded. Overall, a great professor and I learned a lot.
Great first experience with the MEd School Counseling Program and Dr. Isom!! I look forward to my future courses in the program and hopefully I'll get to take more with Dr. Isom.
This "Dr." is very picky. She gets personally offended if you forget and say "professor" rather than "Dr." Shes odd about the forum requirements, but doesnt tell you what she requires in forums until the 2nd week, and takes points off the 1rst week. Slow grader. Tolerable, and not my worst experience, but would not recommend. The know-it-all type..
Dr. Isom is an excellent professor for the M.Ed. School Counseling program, she really helped me with a tricky situation with my site supervisor and she really makes the effort to connect with students and help them transition to working at a school.
Prof. Isom really helped me learn stats. I learned a lot in this course!
Professor Isom provided some great feedback on APA formatting to help me improve specific issues I was having. She was also clear about forum requirements by providing an important information forum that outlined expectations.
I was very nervous about taking this class. Dr. Isom is a stickler, but is very fair and gives great feedback.
Professor Isom made me feel very comfortable for my first research and assessment course. Certainly hope to have her again, especially for research methods.
I've learned so much in this class in applying theory to practice. I was NOT looking forward to doing the counseling videos but it's been very enlightening to help me become a better counselor. Great class and professor!
Great class!
Learned a lot about action research and the process in this class!
Dr. Isom provided canned comments on a regular basis. Also, she made some mistakes along the way but was unforgiving when one of us did.
I really enjoyed my group counseling course! I particularly liked the videos we viewed and did ourselves to help develop our counseling skills. My hard work payed off and was reflected in the grade I received.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. She takes off a ridiculous amount of points the first week for forgetting to pull in references on your response to classmates. She is unhelpful. I was looking forward to this class, but after the first week, I wished I could drop it. I still the subject matter, but the professor ruined the course.
Wow. I have tried to avoid this prof. for the past year and a half, but finally had to take this class. Give me a break. You think since it is my last class in my masters and I have a perfect 4.0 GPA, I might have an understanding of how to do things, right? Nope. She killed me on my grades. Doesn't let u know what to expect ahead of time. Avoid!
This was the worst experience I've ever had with a professor. The information she gave me was very misguided and she was not helpful with providing proper feedback.
Bad bad bad. I tried to avoid her by waiting til end of my masters degree, but eventually i could not avoid her. Such a disappointment. No clear expectations, but she will still kill you on the grades. Despite the fact that i never got less than a 93 on any assignment all through masters she gave me several in low 80s and then made up things. Joke
This professor was very informative and set clear expectations from the beginning of the class. I really enjoyed having the open discussion in the forums allowing me to ask questions and get clarification when I needed it. Quick and clear responses were provided whenever I had a question.
I was nervous about taking my first assessment course but walked away learning so much. Dr. Isom provided support and feedback throughout the entire process and it was obvious she cared about all of us doing well despite the difficult course content.
Excellent professor with clear expectations from the start through her important information forum. I'm a true believer in you get out what you put in and it was refreshing to have a professor passionate about the field and not simply give out As. I really enjoyed the group experience and believe it will help me when I become a counselor.
Excellent class! I enjoyed my interaction with classmates and the professor. I've had Dr. Isom for this class and EDUC530, both were great experiences and I learned a lot! I can't wait to become a school counselor!
Quick to respond to messages and one of the most personable professors I've had. The professor was willing to work with me due to personal issues that came up.
Only cares about APA format not the actual content of the paper. It took 3+ weeks for her to grade papers and only after the next one was due so you could not improvefix your errors. Never responded to messenges sent to her asking for clarification.
I was nervous about taking this class because I don't like research and statistics; however, I just got my research paper grade and it was an A! This course had clear assignments and grading to ease my discomfort and since I followed the assignment timeline I was able to clearly understand each aspect of the research process. Dr. Isom was great!
This is one of my first courses in the program and compared to other professors I've had so far, she has quickly responded to questions I have and has helped me in understanding course assignments. It's clear she's passionate about helping students and the field of school counseling. I hope to have Dr. Isom again for future classes!
Dr. Isom is an excellent professor. Her knowledge, professionalism and drive for students to understand the material shines through even though she instructs online courses.
This class taught me a lot about the role assessment and accountability play in school counseling. This teacher knows her stuff! One of the best classes I've had so far in the program!
Learned a lot about the steps for implementing research. I'm looking forward to applying what I learned at work. Dr. Isom really helped me with questions I had and worked with me when I had an unexpected family emergency. She was knowledgeable and dedicated to helping me and my classmates.
Dr. Isom really took the time to interact with students in the forums. The text was informative and the quizzes and papers were based on the readings. To pass this class you have to participate in forums and read the book. It was refreshing to have a class where I felt like I earned my grade instead of simply getting an A without much feedback.
Great class! Professor was quick to respond to questions I had and seemed really supportive.
TEACHER WAS QUICK TO RESPOND TO QUESTIONS I HAD. ENJOYED DOING THE CASE STUDIES. BEST CLASS I'VE HAD YET!
Very knowledgable of the content. However, very slow to grade!
This teacher is rude, and does not care about helping students. She docks points wherever she can, and does not teach at any point. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS.
SERIOUSLY DO NOT SELECT THIS TEACHER. She does not care about her students. She never grades, never fully interacts, and only takes points where she can.
I had a particularly hard time this semester due to person issues and the professor was very understanding and supportive. There were times where I didn't know if I would make it through the class and was going to drop, if it wasn't for Dr. Isom's support and understanding I wouldn't have successfully passed. I'm very thankful to APUS and Dr. Isom.
I really enjoyed the small group experience, I think it will help me when I'm a school counselor. Great class!
I was very nervous taking this class because of the research component. Each section of the research paper had an outline of what was expected and the professor even provided dates on when each section should be completed so we wouldn't fall behind. I had a lot of questions and Dr. Isom provided prompt feedback to help me with along the way.
I'm thankful this professor took the time to read my work and provide feedback that helped me become a better writer. Sometimes professors don't seem to read your work or some classes are an "easy A," I feel I learned a lot and earned my grade.
Great class! A lot of the assignments like the Child Study Project and DATA Reports will help me with my career in school counseling. I also liked the technology assignment and how I learned to incorporate technology based surveys to help me with my future program!
The research paper was the hardest paper I've completed to date but I was thankful that there was an outline for each step and the professor was great at responding promptly to questions. I'm most proud of this paper and the hard work payed off. I might even consider getting my doctorate!
Her syllabus is not clear and she is strict on her grading because she is taking away points that are not stated in her syllabus!I have done well in all my courses with no problem until I had her as a professor. Just a heads up!
I've been going through a lot personally and she really helped me through. Was very supportive and worked with me on submissions. Whenever I had any questions she was quick to respond- it's clear she really cares about students and helping them succeed!
I really enjoyed this class! The professor gave very detailed feedback on assignments assisting me in becoming a better writer. Whenever I had a question, she was quick to respond. Would like to have as a professor again!
I just finished my degree and have to say that professor Isom was the worst instructor that I had throughout the entire program. She had different expectations for discussion board responses and did not inform students of this until 3+ weeks into the class. She also expected some quote imbedded into a response, which is absolutely ridiculous.
What an amazing professor! I've been through so much lately and wouldn't have made it through this session of classes without here. Thankful for the communication we had regarding my assignments and she went above and beyond to support me- so thankful for her! I look forward to being a school counselor one day because of her.
Great class! Really enjoyed the DATA Reports assignment and how accountability plays into your work as a school counselor. Dr. Isom provided a lot of feedback on my work and APA formatting which I appreciated.
One of the most responsive, supportive and understanding professors I've ever had. Highly recommend!
Great class- I look forward to having Dr. Isom again in EDUC640 next session.
One of the most compassionate professors I've ever had! Great class!
I enjoyed the group discussions and the support of the professor with any questions I had. One of the better teachers in the program.
Dr. Isom is awesome plan and simple. Whenever I had a question about something, she was quick to respond and help me. There is a ton of reading as is every class, although Dr. Isom sets up a good overview to summarize the lesson. I found this helpful since I would get lost in what was the main objective was for that reading.
Dr Isom is a ridiculously tough grader, she docked points for not citing sources on an opinion based questioned. Her feedback is vague and she takes forever to grade. Avoid her if you can.
The class ended and yet she has not graded about 2 assignments and a forum. Not to mention that she has been weeks behind on grading the entire term. Honestly, if she does not have the time to "teach" a class; perhaps, she should not. Nor, should she expect students to answer her forum questions if she cannot grade on a timely manner.
Had a great internship experience and enjoyed having Dr. Isom as my university supervisor. She was always available when I needed her. I enjoyed group supervision activities and discussions.
Great class! Appreciated the weekly emails and quick responses since that hasn't been the norm for me in other classes.
Answered all my questions quickly and thankful for all the APA feedback I was provided. One of the classes I felt like I earned my grade instead of just an easy A. Great professor!
This class was not difficult at all. However, the layout was. Her due dates for assignments were different from the syllabus which caused confusion. Also, she grades slow. By the you're half way through the class, you may be wondering where you stand. For example, by week 3, she had not graded Week 1 nor Week 2 forums.
A very compassionate teacher. Great class!
One of the most responsive professors I've ever had! I had a lot of questions being new to the university and she always responded quickly and provided the encouragement I needed to build my confidence and understanding. Hope to have her again!
Very knowledgeable professor. I've improved my APA writing with her feedback and assistance. Great class!
Great class with a lot of resources I can use when I work with children and families. The professor knew her stuff and was always very responsive.
Great class. Excellent professor. Highly recommend!
Really enjoyed having Dr. Isom for internship. Group supervision and discussions were informative and enjoyable. I feel prepared and excited to be a school counselor!
Dr. Isom is the least involved professor I have ever had at APU. She is almost robotic-with generic responses to the students. She does not engage in forum discussions. While students are required to hand in things on time, she takes forever to grade everything. She does not seem interested in teaching or her students.
Great class with lots of discussion in the forums. I enjoyed the group discussion questions and learning from everyone. The professor provided a clear grading rubric and an assignment checklist which I appreciated to keep up with my assignments. The professor was also quick to respond to questions I had which hasn't been common within my program.
It was great not having a textbook and using current literature, videos and other interactive approaches to learn course material. Dr. Isom was excellent and I enjoyed the small group discussions to specific classmates to give it a more personable feel compared to other larger classes.
Excellent professor. Very understand and supportive while I went through a difficult time. She worked with me so I could successfully pass the course.
One of the only professors I've had at APUS that had a video welcome message. Very personable, knowledgeable, responsive and compassionate- highly recommend!!
One of the most caring professors I've had at APU. Highly recommend!!
Great class! I was nervous but really enjoyed the video assignments. I feel a lot more confident in my counseling skills thanks to Dr. Isom's feedback! Hope to have her again in future classes.
Just finished my second class with Dr. Isom and highly recommend any classes she teaches!
I enjoyed the variety of assignments instead of having to write papers every week. Great class discussions and the teacher was always quick to respond to questions I had.
Great class and professor!
I appreciated the small group forum conversations that contributed to a more personalized interaction. Great class!
I was nervous about this research class but it was set up in a way that helped me understand and feel confident as I went along. I really appreciated the opportunity to submit sections of my research project for feedback to allow for correction and to enhance my understanding of the process. The forums were also relevant to the assignments.
Great professor! This is the second time I've had Dr. Isom as my teacher and I hope to have her again for future classes.
Great class and professor! I learned a lot throughout this course and will take some of the lessons along with me while I finish school and begin a career. My writing skills have indeed improved and I can now use APA format with ease.
Assignments can be used as a practicing counselor- no busy work. Great class!
Very caring, responsive, and supportive. One of the best professors I've had at AMU yet! I learned a lot in this class.
I wouldn't have made it through this class without Professor Isom's care and compassion. I've been through a lot personally the past few weeks and she was very supportive and understanding. One of the best professors I've ever had!
Great class and professor. Look forward to having her again for CHFD307.
Dr. Isom was always quick to respond to any questions I had. Great class!
Always quick to respond to questions I had. Great classroom discussions and very supportive and understanding. Highly recommend!
I had a family emergency during class. Prof Isom was very understanding and not only gave me extensions but an ear to listen. She was very compassionate. She is engaging with her students. A bit of a slow grader, but does get it done. Not a lot of specific feedback. This particulate class had assignments that were somewhat vague but not her fault.
Professor Isom truly cares about her craft and teaching her students everything she knows about human development. I am so happy I was able to take two courses with her. learned so much form the assigned readings. He graded fairly and in a timely manner.
Great professor. Learned a lot about the research process and APA writing during this course.
Great class and teacher. Recommend and would take one of her classes again.
Online classes are what you make of them. Complete the readings and create substantive posts. Deadlines are paramount, as well as following directions. If you can apply yourself - then you will walk away with an A. Excuses are weak - don't be lazy.
Great class!! Looking forward to having her again for the other coaching courses.
I took Professor Isom for both CHFD308 and CHFD307. Both classes were heavy on reading, but overall, not bad. Lots of various resources from the web, but wish there would have been a textbook. She gives good feedback when she grades papers and deducts points. I passed both classes with at least a 98%. I would take her again for future courses.
Dr. Isom is a great professor and true asset at APU. I took her infant-toddler development class and found it not only helpful but essential in my field. I am sorry I did not rate her sooner as she certainly is an inspiration from afar. She gives clear feedback, good notes and readings and inspires discussion. A real keeper for APU!
Her class is not hard its just alot of boring papers that you have to write. she does not accept late work. I failed her class because i turned in my last assingment late and she refused to grade it. I had a 82 in her class but that zero gave me a 52. Unfortunately i was already signed up to take her for another class and coudnt drop it.
Really enjoyed having Dr. Isom for my internship experience. She was always available when I reached out to her, provided excellent supervision, and helped me build my confidence and counseling skills to transition to being a school counselor. I look forward to our professional collaboration in the future.
I've had a really hard time the past few months with COVID and family issues. Dr. Isom was very supportive and understanding. I wish there were more professors like her that cared about their students. I hope to have more classes with her in the future.
Be prepared for a lot of work load with paper assignments every week. But Dr. Isom was amazing! I struggle with APA citations and I had reached out to her for some tips and advice and she was very helpful. She was easy to get in contact with, and she easily answered any questions we had on assignments. I would highly suggest taking her class!
Dr. Isom was amazing. Make sure you do what is asked and you will pass. Take her class!!!
Professor Isom is a good professor. The work is fairly easy but she can be a tough grader. In the end, I would take her class again or in the future.
Excellent professor, one of the best I've had so far in my program, highly recommend!
Dr. Isom was very supportive and responsive, one of the best professors I've had while in my program. Highly recommend!
One of the best at APUS, highly recommend!
Was not consistent in feedbacks and grading. Created a false sense of areas that needed work. Would not provide feedback upon request and marks were not consistent with rubric
I'm working toward my coaching certificate and about to complete my second course with Dr. Isom. I have really enjoyed the role playing experiences and she has given a lot of helpful feedback. It is clear she really cares about the students and has been quick to respond to questions I have. I look forward to having her again.
Dr. Isom provided a lot of feedback on my papers, more than I have received from any other professor during my time at APUS. Even with it being a large class, you can tell she cares about the students and the quality of their learning. I hope to have her again.
Very nice discussions and very nice teacher
Great professor and I enjoyed the class.
I was nervous about taking the research course but Dr. Isom presented the content in a way that took the fear and intimidation out of it. I walked away learning a lot and now have an stronger appreciation for educational research and look forward to applying it to my work.
Waits until the very end to grade so it looks like you're failing. Took off 9 points for not putting a name on the paper. Her grading is everywhere.
Really enjoyed this course, Dr. Isom, and the career activities. I learned a lot about myself and how to help others in career development.
Just finished up taking the Career Counseling and Development course and it has been one of my favorites at APUS. Dr. Isom is very responsive and gives quick and personalized feedback on assignments. I really enjoyed the content and hope to have more classes with her in the future.
I had a lot going on personally and she was very understanding and supportive. I enjoyed the last assignment where we compared our 6 and 16 year old selves noting physical, social/emotional, and cognitive changes. Made me think a lot about my own children and their development. Great class and I'm very appreciative to Dr. Isom for all her support.
Great class- learned a lot about the research process.
Dr. Isom was a great professor and I learned a lot in this course. I hope to have her again in the future.
I enjoyed taking Dr. Isom's class so much I signed up for another one with her in September. She's one of the best professors I've had at APUS- highly recommend!
I learned a lot about the research process in this course and appreciate the thoughtful feedback and APA assistance Dr. Isom provided. She was quick to respond and provide clarification and assistance on questions I had. I already signed up and look forward to have another class with Dr. Isom.
She's one of the best professors that I've ever had in my 3 years of going to AMU, great prof.
Great professor and class, I highly recommend Dr. Isom. I've enjoyed her coaching courses and look forward to taking the next one. If you can schedule a live session you should, I appreciated the one-on-one time and feedback.
I learned a lot in this class about child and adolescent development. This will be really helpful to me as I plan to be a child life specialist. I also learned a lot on APA writing and formatting. Great class!
I really enjoyed the assignments on prenatal development and language development. Great class and professor!
I enjoyed this class and the opportunity to improve my coaching skills with the different role-play assignments. Great professor!
I was nervous about taking this research course. Dr. Isom consistently answered all of my questions and provided much support, making this class a great experience. Great class!
I learned a lot about the research process and enhanced my research skills and confidence by taking this course.
Dr. Isom is an excellent professor - supportive, responsive, and helpful. The workload is challenging but manageable with the right study tools like unstuck ai. Highly recommended!
This was my second class with Dr. Isom and another great experience. I've enjoyed the coaching courses and look forward to the next one. I appreciate Dr. Isom and her expertise and support through this process. I look forward to learning more from her.
Great first course for my coaching certificate. I really liked the role-play experiences. I've learned a lot and enjoyed having Dr. Isom as my professor. I'm looking forward to my next class and hope to have Dr. Isom again in the future.
What a great class! I loved the resources and tools I received to assist me in my coaching. I'm really enjoying this program so far, and Dr. Isom is a caring, supportive, and knowledgeable professor. You can tell she really cares about the students.
Great class on child and adolescent development, I particularly enjoyed learning about cognitive development theory. Highly recommend this course and professor.
I've loved having Dr. Isom as my professor for the coaching courses, and I highly recommend her!
Dr. Isom is Awesome!! She is very engaging with her students, provides clear feedback, and responds to questions and inquiries immediately.
This class was excellent! I earned a 100% on all my assignments and discussions, and the professor consistently provided helpful and encouraging feedback. She's very supportive and makes the learning experience enjoyable. I would definitely take another class with her in the future. Overall, I'd rate her a 10 out of 10!
