On of the worst profs I have ever had, she might as well not even try to speak english, half the time no one can understand her anyways. Hard quizes even if you go to class.

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF!!!! She seems to always be angry at the students, maybe angry at the world. She puts on her plastic smile, but you can tell its totally fake. And like the other people said, she thinks history is about all the small stuff.

Stupid assignments, and way to much lecturing. Its like students don't exist for her.

Impossible to understand, never cares about you or wants to try and help you. During the rounds of firings SCSU had, she should have gotten the boot instead of the good profs that did. Avoid her at all costs.

I'm in her course right now, and it sucks. I agree with most of what other people said. Also she likes to always tell you that she is a lawyer, and how great legal history is. She doesnt seem to know anything else. Dull, dull, dull. A bad teacher.

All I have to say is I want to kill myself!....The semester consists of reading long, boring, and dry chapters every class, a presentation on one of the articles, and 3 extremely hard exams. she is speaks in mono-tone....if you can understand her Do NOT TAKE!...if you do bad on the exams, then you are screwed!

Hard to understand her accent. Not open to ideas or opinions unless they match her own. Does not convey information in a clear well thought out manner. I've witnessed her laugh at a student for having an alternate opinion of a historical event. Teaches from an outdated textbook.

Don't waste your time. She is HORRIBLE. Her English is rough (not her fault I guess), she is unorganized, boring, and she doesn't teach...she reads from her slideshow (which she leaves on one slide of a map and expects you to be able to read her mind to figure out the notes). Take this online, you will learn more that way, promise!

Horrible Class! It would be such a good class if the teacher was interested in it. The test are super hard! nothing on the tests are covered in class whatsoever. It is easier to stay home and read the book rather than going to her class. You would get a better grade in the end.

Professor Kim knows what she is talking about, but nobody else does. She is completely Incomprehensible and rambles on the entire class period about next to nothing. I came into the class with an open mind, history was never my thing but I had to take the class so why not try and enjoy it? Wrong. Worst class ever. She loves to cancel class and no say anything, she also loves to assign essays and not tell people that missed about them.Bad class, horrible teacher...she needs to be fired..immediately!

I could teach this class better then she can. She rambles on about things that have nothing to due with the subject matter and she complains about americans to a class full of people born and living in america. She makes no sense and mispronounces everything so it makes things very confusing.

Literally the worst professor I have ever had. She doesn't grade the tests or papers. There is no sense of overall points on tests or papers--so all you get is what you've gotten right and a letter grade. I HIGHLY do NOT recommend this professor. Very rude to people who try to play devil's advocate--or know more things on a particular subject.

Very difficult to understand. Has her TA do all of the grading for her. Is very slow at talking and practically put me to sleep in the morning class I had with her. I recommend taking a different teacher.

The grade was broken down into three midterms (20% each), the final (30%) and attendance (10%). The tests are very difficult. All of the material comes from her lectures, none from the book. Her lectures are unfocused and hard to understand; they also don't include all of the information on the test. I would not recommend this class to anyone.

Marie Kim is a terrible professor. She speaks really quiet with a Korean accent so I can't understand anything she says. Half the class she just talks about random stuff. She seems disrespectful toward students, and her lectures are boring and off topic. The tests are really hard and cover material we didn't even discuss. I would not recommend.

Take this class with someone else if you can. Marie has a thick accent and is super quiet, she refuses to use a mic. So you can never hear what shes saying. She only grades you on 4 exams (1 final) and attendance... nothing else. her exams are't questions from the book, just her lecture. She told a student that her religion is only an "opinion"

She only grades you on 3 midterms and a final. She has a thick Korean accent that is hard to understand and doesn't carry throughout the whole room. Her tests are on things that we don't even go over. She gives you an outline but they don't really help. When you go to her office hours she says the same things everytime and barely helps you study

Kim has a heavy accent so you have to actually decipher what she is saying and then study it. She called out a student and made a lot of people so mad that they left class. The lectures don't make sense and the exams are hard. The highest score on the last exam was about 80%. In a class of about 80 people, more than half failed the first exam.

Your grade depends on three midterm tests, a final test, and attendance. She is hard to understand, she is very disrespectful towards the students. She called out a student who said the book was different from what she said. If you have a textbook in your class, you should really make sure it fits with your class. I definitely don't recommend her.

While I find that Kim is very knowledgeable about the content she is teaching, she is simply awful at conveying it. Her lectures are very off topic with lots of rambling. Tests are difficult, even if they're multiple choice. Could read the book from cover to cover and still not do well on the tests. Very resistant to giving extra help to students.

All of the learning out of the book. Lectures ramble and aren't clear. Sometimes she goes on tangents about world events, especially pertaining to South Korea. Her tests are difficult, and the sample she gave us did not match the actual tests. A lot of the questions were on trivial small details. Unless you are a history buff, you won't do well

The worst professor I've ever had in my whole college experience. I would rate her at -100 if i could. No study guides for exams, she doesn't give the class info on how we did after exams, and its extremely hard to hear her even if she's speaking through mic. Overall, she shouldn't even be given the job of a teacher, complete waste of semester.

Overall I did not like this professor in the slightest. Our grade was determined by 4 tests and attendance. Make sure you know dates even if she says there never will be in the beginning there always is. 10/10 would not recommend. Stay away from 1.6

Class size of only 7, she changed the format to seminar, putting the weight of teaching on the students (we sat in silence a lot, as most of us didn't even read the texts). Openly admitted she didn't want to teach. Grades on 2 1500 word papers, a midterm test done in December, and a Final paper. Read the books, lectures are useless. 6(!) books!

Even though this is a 100 level class she treats it like we are majors in History. The information in this class is extremely hard and random. She says she bases her tests off her lectures but not one of the tests had any information from the lectures or the book. During lecture she gets off topic and rambles about random stuff. Would not recommend

I really like history, but this class was too hard for a 100 level class. The professor isn't helpful at all, and really just teaches from the book. There are only four exams that are really difficult and there is nothing else that you are graded on. If you can avoid taking any classes form this professor if possible.

Hated this class. Everyone in my class was confused and the professor didn't care. Lectures were long and boring. She is very informed on history, but teaches the class like we are all history majors in our senior year. She rambles in lectures and you can barely understand what she's saying due to her accent. The format for HIST 106 was just watching video lectures and taking three exams, with a final essay based on two readings at the end. I have learned very little from the class, and do not feel that Dr. Kim puts much effort into it. I have heard similar about her other classes.

I took her class as it was the only one available and I could not regret it more. Her lectures are not in line with her tests and the final paper was far too abstract for a 100 level class. Way too much reading and lectures that do not help with the tests.

I thought that her class was rather difficult for a level 100 class. The material was far too specific and in depth for such a basic class. Only about 50% of the test is based on the lecture and the other 50% you are on your own. I don't think she cares about the teaching as much as she cares about the research.

I was taking her online history 106 class, and it was a nightmare. She posts everything in the start of the semester. There was about 4 things to do per week, and there was no assignments to help you study, only lectures, videos, and articles. She has a thick accent so I could barely understand her lectures. It was the only class I really worried.

I hated this class... I'll admit I've never been super into history but even if I was I'd still have a really hard time enjoying it. I couldn't understand her due to her thick accent, her exams were extremely hard and she was rude. Overall, I think she's super knowledgeable about history just not the best at teaching it.

I dropped her class as of 09/02/2024. The whole class is graded through around 3 exams and a final. not a lot of extra helpful stuff in her class. It's a bunch of hour-long lectures and reading. It seems the lectures don't provide much in terms of helpfulness.

There are 4 things graded in this class. 3 midterms that are 50 questions and you have 30 minutes to do them, and the only other graded thing is a final paper. There is no extra credit options. I am normally an A student and there was so much stuff to do on top of my 4 other classes. I don't recommend taking if you want to keep your sanity.

Most difficult class I've ever taken. I usually do well in history, but it was all long lectures where she seemed to be stating facts one after another with no segues and a thick accent. Took me an hour to get through a 15 minute lecture. Also randomly said to read books that weren't in the syllabus in the last 3 weeks of class. DO NOT TAKE

Very poorly designed class I don't have much to say a bunch of lectures uploaded at the beginning of the semester then radio silence except for a couple global emails here and there throughout the semester there are 3 exams although they do absolutely nothing for your grade everything is graded through a final essay

I don't even know why this person still teaches they have no passion for history every single lecture is mind-numbing rambling for nearly an hour, and the entire course is graded off of your final exam results which is an essay that totals 40% of your grade but the other three exams won't count if you miss the final giving you an automatic F
