She's a cutie, and very nice, not very helpful in teaching the material, however.
HW takes hours, learned a lot, but requires very detailed understanding of course material, while lectures/text do not teach the material required. Professor grades harshly & has unreasonable expectations for an intro course.
dont take this class you will regret if you take
Test questions differ from hw examples. She doesnt offer much help and is unclear at times. Class is made better by staring at her
the worst teacher ever! Never helps with the material. She claims it is her time and not her ressponsibility! She will lower your GPA very easliy. She doesnt care about students.I wonder how she became a prof. here
great teacher. She's very helpful in class and at her office hours. The other people who made comments are just grumpy becuase they probably got a bad grade.
Lectures are detailed and through. Homework is helpful in understanding the course material and she will help you. Take time to do the practice tests as well as studying the practice problems while doing the reading and you'll be fine. This is not a class you can sleep through or attend only a couple times during the semester and expect to pass
The material is very boring. To do well on exams you must read the text carefully. Master the text and you will get an A.
Great class, easy work, just apply yourself.
Willing to help in anyway that she can. Puts a great deal of effort into teaching the subject and trying to make it exciting. Three exams that get progessively harder as you go along. Recognizes and really goes out of her way for those who always attend class.
Extremely nice professor. She was very helpful outside of class. If you go to class and do the homework you shouldn't have trouble. She does give practice exams. Definitely take those they will help on the exams.
Professor Matta is by far the BEST professor I have EVER had! She is extremely nice and her lectures are interesting, interactive, and very clear. I don't know what other people are talking about...I didn't read a page of the book and I have a 97% average!? Just go to class. Hard material, but everyone does well since she's such a good teacher!
Probably the best professor I have had at GW, easily the best for this course. The exams are long and include a lot of material and homework can take a while but she explains everything very well in class. She is a very fair grader and homeworks will prepare you well for the exams.
Best teacher I've ever had! Excellent Prof. makes the class very enjoyable.
One of the best professors I've had in the MBA program. Goes out of her way to memorize EVERYONE's name, which was impressive. Lectures are very clear and interactive so u don't get bored. Exams are pretty challenging and long.
Great teacher - totally hot - worth going to class just to see her.
Class is a joke. Treats us like kids with her silly games. Not helpful, and who heard of mandatory attendance as a grad student?? I don't feel like I learned anything in the class. Easily one of the worst MBA classes to date.
This professor really cares about the students. Amazing. Knew each of us by name in a couple of weeks! Went way out of her way to answer email at all hours, met with students at odd times, and crafted exercises that engaged everyone in class. Has a unique way of making very complex material understandable.
Class is not challenging at all for graduate level. As a professor she means well and cares about her students, comes prepared, but you feel like your in grade school. You will be bored. Easy though and 10 times better than glickman =(.
Professor has an art for making complex material understandable and attainable. This professor has helped me during class and after class and even met with me to help me land a great job! The few negative comments listed here must be from grumpy students who are disappointed in not getting an A+. Her tests and HW are very challenging!
Prof has a crystal clear way of explaining concepts. Makes what would ordinarily be boring topics, surprisingly very interesting. Engages all students in class--even the most quiet ones! Pure poetry in motion. This prof not only took lessons on how to teach, but is truly truly gifted. The best, most caring prof at the school, hands down.
We couldn't wait to go to her class b/c we wanted to see what new activity she would throw at us. I was able to apply ops concepts immediately at my job, too. Best prof! Best class! Take this one for sure.
Excellent at linking ideas and concepts across the semester. Cases were a great vehicle for learning. Super prepared professor with energy that you would not believe. Made uninterested execs, interested in ops in a few short weeks. Quantitative models were useful immediately on my job. Wish I had taken this class sooner.
Class is fascinating. A gifted professor who can explain challenging math concepts to folks who never took calculus, like me. Professor is very fair across all students. A delight!
I have been very dissapointed in the quality of professors at the GW MBA program. However, Dr. Matta is amazing. Keeps the class loose and interesting. Very fair and helpful.
She's horrible. She treats you like children. Her final was ridiculous because the T/F was very poorly written with the weak language she used. She forced someone with food poisoning to take the test while the person was still getting sick during the final. She is one of the worst profs I've ever had.
Wonderful at making quantitative concepts accessible to everyone! Well-spoken, humble, and engaging. I wish she would have taught us the other classes in Decision Sciences. GWU is very lucky to have this one. BTW- her final exam was extremely fair! Any negative comments are from some unprofessional students who probably performed poorly.
A talented professor with a brilliant mind. Highly accessbile, she permitted me to call her over my lunch break at work or first thing in the morning at 8am to help with homework! I learned a lot of ops concepts that I applied immediately at my job. Class was relevant, timely, and full of direction! Highly recommended!
The absolute best prof! Engaging, clear, and encourages participation in a non-threatening way. She is genuinely gifted and caring. She helped me prepare for an interview and coached me on a project at work. Totally fair with grades and tests, too! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
I can really appreciate this professor now that I am in other professor's classes. Matta responded to emails 24/7 practically and helped me each and every week. Her emphasis on activities kept our class awake for 2.5 hours each session and helped me to visualize concepts that would have been unclear just by reading about them. She knows the topic!
She's awesome! I wish she taught the Stats class and the Probability class. She has a straightforward way of talking that uncomplicates math. I learned more in this class the other Decision Science classes. We all enjoyed her charisma and cystal clear presentations. I immediately applied concepts on-the-job. Take Matta for sure!
Spectacular presentations and Matta encourages participation. A joy to attend her class. It is obvious that she puts a great deal of time into teaching. She somehow miraculously got the majority of folks to participate in a non-threatening way. She sparked interest in cases and teased out differences of opinions in every class. Simply, the best.
Professor Matta is the BEST professor. It is amazing to have someone who is incredibily bright, but humble about it be such an excellent teacher. I recommend taking this professor! She made me so interested in a topic which I did not like previously. Only an outstanding educator can do that! Thee Absolute BEST professor!
Dr. Matta is an outstanding professor. You will tell that her communication skills are world-class. She uncomplicates topics and brings a fresh energy to learning.
Graduate Operations Strategy: Would not take her course again. She treats students like children. Also doesn't really provide help when you need it; her answers are vague. Final exam is closed book and very hard. Overall grading lacks consistency and very limited partial credit. It's a shame, she's nice and smart, but she is not a good professor.
Due to new core structure, the class is 7 weeks and 1.5 credits. In those 7 weeks you'll do 3 group projects(!) and 3 individual assignments (something due every week). Final exam is closed book and a combination of random questions with some stuff actually taught in class. Prof. is avg at best (which might be better than the other ops profs @ GW).
Will not recommend this teacher. She is very picky -Every class you will need to sign in your name, grade your team mates for every team paper, and explain the grades. Work as hard as you can but may easily end up with a C. She is inconsistent with what she says expect in the exams. Her test prep does not help since her final exams are very diffic
This was my favorite class this semester. Yes, Prof Matta is demanding, but the class is a breeze if you keep up with the work each week. I received an A just by dilligently performing the homeworks and readings. Very straightforward. By the few negative comments that I read here, you can tell they got a grade below a B. Highly recommend!
Outstanding class. Was able to use models directly at my work. You must study for the exam, but it is fine. Having a sign-in sheet helped prof to remember me when I needed a security clearance (more objective data). I loved how this prof held everyone accountable for attendance and group work. Wished all profs asked us for peer assessments.
Terrific professor. Super fair, excellent teacher. Amazingly bright. Wants students to excel. Met with me each week for help. Always responded to email quickly. Definitely the Top Faculty at GWU.
Loved the new 1.5 semester! Matta had just the right balance of cases to lecture to keep everyone learning and enthused. I took away such a great understanding of a topic that I knew nothing about previously. Crystal clear professor. The highest reccommend! I wish more professors at GWU held my peers accountable for attendance and group work!
The absolute best professor! Take Matta for sure!
Not sure if I learnt anything in this course. Final exams were extremely difficult, her test prep were no preps in anyway. Professor is very unhelpful to students and does not seem to care much when you need assistance. Will not recommend her.Wish I had known prior and taken a different class.
This class introduced me to an area that I was not considering. Matta has a crystal clear approach to her syllabus and teaching style. I have obtained 2 degrees already and I can honestly say that Matta is the best professor I have ever had. She actually spends time preparing for class--YOU CAN TELL! She cares about your learning and progress!
She has a lot of energy and is a fun person. I didn't think the course went deep enough - she planned lots of activities in class, but they only engaged the material superficially. When students asked questions on a deeper analytical level she was totally incapable of understanding or answering clearly. Wished she made me think more.
The perfect balance for a survey course! Half cases and half coursebook. We covered a lot in 7 quick weeks. I now feel comfortable selecting further electives in decision sciences thanks to Professor Matta. She is clear in her presentations and covered all of the basics. The best core class to date! Not to "deep", just right.
Finally a professor that cracks the boring stero-typical professor mold! Dr. Matta met with me each week and challenged me to think in new directions. For this I am grateful. I learned sooo much. Highly recommended. I hope to take some electives with Dr. Matta again.
Dr. Matta should teach the Stats classes. She speaks clearly and with no accent. What a breath of fresh air! Smart, accessible, and caring. What more can I say? We were lucky to have her teach our basic core class.
We loved Dr. Matta. She is the only professor that makes use of Elluminate Live the way it should be used for a Distance class. It is obvious that she cares about your learning. I wish there were 14 week classes again.
Amazing professor who cares. Bridged learning from the student who knew nothing about ops/stats to the student with an engineering background. High recommend.
As I graduate and reflect on my graduate classes, I can really appreciate how this professor was instrumental in showing me my new career direction. An incredible professor with skill and patience that is truly memorable. I learned and retained so much in her classes b/c of her gift of teaching.
Great teacher, who knows what she is looking for and makes that clear to the students. She is knowledgeable on her subject and enthusiastic.
Best professor I have had in the MBA program. She has genuine interest in her students, she is always available to answer questions and she totally inspires students to work hard, learn and play. Her interactive class assignments and homework really spark your mind!
I do not recommend taking this professor. Her lectures are useless, with childish classroom exercises. The assignments & group projects were the only beneficial parts of the course. The final exam is extremely difficult because there is minimal classroom application of the material. She also demonstrates favoritism with students.
This is the absolutely most caring professor. It is evident that she designs each class thoughtfully. Any grumpy comments about her is clearly b/c it was the student's fault for not trying more. The book, class activities, discussions, etc. kept our class lively until 9:40pm each week. The time flew by b/c of the passion of Dr.Matta. HighRecom
Loved the class. Loved the professor! Job well done!
totally fair. consistent to a tee. superb, brilliant lecturuer and facilitator of discussions. designed and excellently executed active learnng exercises to breakup monotomy of 2.5 hours. math is not my world, but I got it in this class finally. take matta! a giant breath of fresh air. super accessible.
Passionate, crystal clear speaker. Consistent and fair. Brillant mind with examples from today. I knew nothing about this topic on the way into this class and now I can't stop thinking about the topic. A masterful teacher. Wish I had this professor for other classes at GWU. #1 professor to date for me.
Numero Uno Professor! Gracias!
Matta was always very well prepared with a thoughtful lesson plan. The assignments were fair and relevant. The final missed the mark a bit but overall it was a really good class.
Most students like this prof, esp against the backdrop of some poor quality professors at GW. While not a guru in OpStrat, she does have a PhD and experience, and solidly translates clear and simple messages to students. Her vague, highly debatable T/F questions are a weak point in an otherwise creative and semi-effective teaching style.
A super prepared instructor who obviously cares about student learning. Challenging assignments and test which were reasonable in length and quantity. Finally, a professor who gets us students. Looking forward to another course with this professor. She engaged the whole class with concepts that were relevant and current. I learned a lot.
Look around folks, there are no females in this field. The reason Matta has so many comments out here is b/c she is THAT STELLAR! She has been and continues to be the only female in her department. What a role model to all that glass ceilings can be broken even in math fields. She is simply brilliant and spectacular.
This professor inspired me to think in new ways about operations and sustainability. She encourages and sparks new ideas. I wish that I could take more classes with this very caring and intelligent professor.
Highly accessible professor who instantly responds to emails (the best), met with me to discuss my career and classes, and who comes to every class super prepared. So organized! Easy to understand and uncomplicates Stats for me.
Very bright professor. Knows her topic and is grand at expressing it. Blessed to have had met this professor and to learn under her guidance. I'm still thinking about ops... She has a unique way of making you want to learn and think. Highly gifted.
Nice professor, but doesn't teach well enough to provide material covered in problem sets. There is a lot of self-teaching involved in this class. She also doesn't allow excel for lengthy calculations.
This professor knows the material but the problem is that she does not know how to relay that material to students. Be prepared to have points deducted for minor format issues on assignments. The final exam will look almost nothing like the practice exam and you will not be able to use Excel. She seems to be severely out of touch with students.
Excellent professor. Explained things so they were crystal clear. Super helpful in class and outside of class! Don't listen to the few grumpy students. This prof is fun, energetic, and superb at explaining things in different ways. She makes learning enjoyable in the classroom through creative activities. She thoughtfully involves students.
amazing at explaining mathematics so that even I understand it. Organized, prepared, clear, and enjoyable prof. Fav prof to date!
Matta is very nice and enthusiastic. The material is quite boring but she does her best to make the class interactive. I'd definitely recommend her.
Engaging and useful Professor, just dry material to cover. Hard exams but homework and participation is a good grade buffer. Easy B, hard A.
Amazing professor! Not necessarily an easy A, but as a teacher, Matta is engaging, clear, and enthusiastic. Topics may be dry, but at the end of the day are practical. Do well on the homeworks,go to class, and C's on exams is extremely easy- will give you a B+/A-. Put in the effort for the class and you won't stress on tests.
She at least knows her discipline, which cannot be said for every MBA prof at GW. She focuses heavily on formulas and memorization and doesn't really care if you are getting the concepts. This is basically a math/stats class with some operations vocab thrown in. She is a pedantic grader and struggles to answer student questions.
Has no idea how to relay the information to students, not clear and not helpful. Does not provide enough information in slides or in class to properly complete homework problem sets. A lot of self teaching in this class when it comes to formulas.
Any student who actually has a brain will understand quickly enough that this professor is probably one of the dumbest at the school. Explains the topics poorly and then assigns homework that reaches far beyond what was discussed in class.
Cares about students. Extremely fair. Easy to understand. A brilliant gem at GWSB. Wish she taught us Stats bc she is SO GIFTED in explaining. Inspires even the struggling math student. She is so patient and polite.
Spectacular
Best most caring professor. Fun. Great at explaining mathy stuff.
Her work experience backs up her lectures. Amazing at making operations management topics dance out of the textbook and into my head. Honestly, she inspires thought and learning. A teacher who demands a lot, but you will learn SO MUCH! A unique professor who REALLY REALLY cares.
Absolute fav prof. So organized. So helpful. Great at explaining math and making math topics fun. Funny. Nice. Bright. Intriguing examples. Upbeat. Very very effective teaching style.
Gave me advice on interviews in addition to help as I needed on Home works. Super special, caring professor. Passionate. Brought challenging material to an understanding among everyone. Gifted teacher .
AMAZING. Easily the best professor I've had at GW. Matta manages to cover an enormous amount of material and make it feel like nothing. Tests are a little challenging and grade breakdown seems unbalanced, but the homeworks help a lot (with studying and your grade). She makes concepts so easy to understand. If you have the chance, take her class!
Learning at its best. Active style of teaching kept us engaged. Humorous, upbeat professor. Has special talent to explain math. Super organized. Kept us very interested in what would have been boring material otherwise. This teacher is the real deal. Come to class, apply yourself, and be dazzled with learning. :). Best teacher at G-dub!
Amazing lectures! Professor Matta puts so much effort into her classes and makes Ops Management more understandable. Expect long homework assignments. Attendance counts towards your participation grade (10%), two midterms (25% each), homework (40%). Take her class if you can, very friendly and approachable.
Fun, ultra-engaging class. Prof is tremendous in approach to learning actively in class. This professor knows the topic and knows how to teach it. She has like 150 students and knows student names! Highly recommend. :)
Professor Matta is amazing. This is an upperclassman course but I took it as a freshman and loved it. She makes things very easy to understand and relates it to the real world which is really cool. Attendance is mandatory, there is homework once a week, and two exams (no final exam).
She's the best. Lectures are great and uses worksheets and class discussions to help you understand the material. Knows lots of people's names. Best part is she doesn't waste your time when it comes to exams and tells you exactly what is going to be on it. Two exams are equal, second isn't cumulative and they aren't that hard but quite long.
This class is very well organized-- all class lectures, materials and homework are very useful for understanding the lessons and the tests are very fair. Professor Matta does a lot to make sure lectures are interesting, and always has good examples to engage the class with.
Matta is pretty annoying and talks about a lot of useless things during class, but is very well organized and transparent. She will make you take the exams on a lockdown browser while being filmed which I think is extremely unnecessary, and is generally extra. Solid 3/5.
The absolute worst
The most unresponsive professor I have ever had. If you are planning to take this professor while classes are still taught online - DON'T! The professor does the absolute minimum when it comes to her students and if you have any glitches with your technology while taking an exam she will ignore all of your emails about the issue and not respond! :)
Do not be fooled by these glowing reviews. Matta is mediocre at best - even subpar in an online class environment. She'll talk about the most inane things during lecture, and demands you use lockdown browser w/ the camera turned on. It's a total invasion of privacy and not necessary. Also super unresponsive! Take her if it's your only option.
Her ops class is ok. Exams are not as bad as everyone says, its 50 multiple choice and that's it. But her exams are confusing (the wording) and they are on lockdown browser. I don't like the grading for the homeworks. I wrote down the wrong number but it didn't affect anything and she took off 2 points, she also talks to us like little kids.
Her supply chain class is horrible, i had her for ops too and it was a much better class. she doesn't really review the material until we get to class cause her explanations suck. Her exams for this class are take home because the material is hard. Be prepared for a lot of constraints and solver on excel (understand it before taking this class)
Professor Matta has been my best online professor this year! She is extremely organized, and her lectures are very straightforward and prepare you for the homeworks and exams. She provides you with a formula sheet for the two exams as well. The material is difficult if you don't pay attention but overall a great class.
Matta is one of the sweetest professors I've ever had. She is so kind and tries to be understanding and put herself in our shoes. She is very clear about what she expects from you in terms of homework, grading, etc. The class isn't easy, but she tries her best to simplify the material and prioritizes us understanding it. 100% recommend her!!
Very disappointing class. Didnt learn anything (its pure memorization). Prof. Matta is extremely unaccommodating and doesnt give any practice questions to prepare for exams.
I loved Dr. Matta. She was so sweet and really wanted us all to do well. The class was very interesting and homeworks were sometimes long but never too bad. The only thing is that the exams were rather difficult and confusing but even they weren't that bad. The final was not cumulative and she drops a homework in the end too. Take this class!!!
She is a very nice professor, but you won't use any of the concepts in real life. Her lectures are outdated, and you're only graded by 9 homework and 2 exams (multiple choice) with NO curve. The slides are long, and to do well you have to read the book chapters as well. Take her if you want, but be aware.
Amazing, caring Professor. Brilliant. Inclusive and fun. Learned language and concepts that I literally used on two job interviews the next day.
Kicked a disabled black woman out of class for having a service dog present. Didnt do their due diligence about basic ADA and GW policy regarding service dogs and neglected to contact the DSS to review reasonable accommodation papers. -1/10 avoid at all cost if u want to be treated like a human being.
Kicked out a student with a service dog. Even got the cops involved to escort her out .
Quite the teacher you would not want to take. Doesn't respect her students, kicks them out of class, puts them to their classmates. The moral choices a teacher makes out and especially inside of the classroom matters.
One of the worst classes I took at GWU. Speaks to her students like they're elementary students. Is not understanding and only cares for herself. Study heavy for tests as even some of the top students do very poorly on exams
This is a core class that most people put off. I should have taken it sooner. Matta makes so many topics accessible. She is super organized, clear to understand, and prepared for each class. She has opened my eyes to a new career idea. She makes math seem easy. Her emphasis on processes has given me an easy lift to interview my senior year.
She is able to take very complex material and make it palatable to students (even non-math ones). She provides different ways of describing concepts so that everyone is clear. She always meets with me to help with homework questions and is very helpful. This is a math heavy topic, professor makes it accessible with her lessons and expertise.
So caring. I was depressed and it was the only class that I looked forward to each week. I found the topic fascinating. The Professor was knowledgeable and passionate about the topic. She helped me get out of my depressive state. Easy to talk to. Understanding.
This prof was the best. Clear, intelligent, and cheerful. I will take another course in a heart beat with Dr Matta!
This professor is SO organized and passionate. She knows the topic and can actually explain it to everyone. This class prepared me for questions on my job case studies. I love Matta's classes and cheerful disposition. She used pictures, graphs, worksheets, humor, key equation sheets, marker board, videos, you name it. She is a gifted teacher!
Do the homeworks, they prep U for tests. She's friendly and super helpful. Great at explaining math-y concepts. A role model for women in STEM.
Best Professor ever
Best prof. Organized. Makes it Easy to understand hard math. Excellent class.
Matta is an excellent professor that cares about teaching and her students. She is well organized and a fair grader. This is a core business course and Professor Matta is very knowledgeable and has the ability to clearly share her knowledge.
Matta was okay. The course content was a little confusing at times and I feel like she assign homework problems/test us on things we didn't go over in class. She was very nice and easy to talk to, but she always ran out of time in class and never was able to finish the content. Overall she was nice but homeworks and tests were hard and lengthy.
Crystal clear. Topics covered in class then homeworks followed in those topics. It was mathematically tough but she always made time to meet with me or answer all of my questions in emails even late at night! I came away with a broad understanding of many analytical approaches. Not for the math weak.
Fav prof at GW. Would love to take more classes under her guidance. She helped me land my job. I walked away with a deeper understanding of math thought from deterministic to stochastic. This brought it all together for me. You have to work hard. You must apply the concepts. Not easy. You should have a solid math background beforehand.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class and this professor. She knows her topic and is passionate about it. It's exciting to be part of her class. I learned more in this class than all my others. Her lectures, personality, speech, and teaching style were engaging to all. And, wow, is she organized.
This class changed my life! I looked forward to going to her impactful lectures during my depression. The topics and the way that she described them was inspirational. I have had my eyes opened to a new avenue and line of work. I understand business like never before. I think differently because of this great Professor.
Professor Matta's class was really enjoyable! She thoroughly prepares you for all exams and her teaching style really resonated with me. The course is designed to include nine problem sets (your lowest grade of which is dropped), a midterm and a final. She is extremely organized and explains concepts really well! I really enjoyed my experience!
I have never met a professor more engaging and organized as Matta. She knows everyone by name and only goes through the material you will need for exams/hw. Really accessible and replies to emails instantly. HW quantitative, exams qualitative, so make sure to read. Fosters a learning environment. 10/10 recommend. Allegations were also false
She is such a good professor and is very passionate about Operations. Her class is easy to succeed in if you go to class and do the homework. The exams are on the harder side but if you study a decent amount you will be good. I recommend taking her she is so sweet and cares about her students.
I believe this class to be easy and well taught, but the exams weren't comparable to what we learned in class. I often found the true/false she asks to be confusing and unclear. Also, most of your grade is weighted by the exams so I feel as though it is very hard to get an A. She teaches really clearly though and makes the material understandable.
The tests, homework, and lectures never aligned material-wise. She spends a lot of time in class talking about stupid things that don't relate to content that you need to know for homework and/or tests. The tests and homework are on completely different things.
Professor was organized and speaks clearly. Very patient teacher. You must go to class and study for the tests but then you will be fine. Wish I had this professor and class before my internship. We learned a lot.
The best prof at GWU. She actually took the time to learn our names when she has over 100 students. She was amazingly organized from the start. The classes were active in that worksheets were passed out for us to follow along with the methods at our desk. The homeworks further reinforced the week's concepts. She tells what to study for tests.
She took a hard mathy subject and made it magically easier for us to grasp. She is great at explaining things and will do so in different ways to help someone who raised their hand. She helped me a lot each week. We covered a lot of material in a semester and I was able to apply it in my interviews. Top rated professor! Always super helpful.
While Prof Matta truly cares about Operations and her students, I found her class to be a waste of time. She often would go on tangents during lectures and wouldn't cover the specific material we had to know for the weekly homework. The exams were much harder than the homework and in-class activities.
She whittles a huge textbook down for us to understand enough to do well on the exams. She uses the approach of doing problems together in class and then backs this up with weekly homeworks. The homeworks kept us current with the weekly material and prepared us for the exams. She even gave us outlines of specific topics to study for the exams.
This prof is always cheerful, well-organized, and well-spoken. This is a math class with equations and models. Her clear explanations and fun examples break up the class math. She gives you formulas for the exams. This class was well taught by her. She prepares us for exams with weeks to study without homework. She always helped me after class
Greatly appreciated that she makes this course so easy to follow. Prof Matta was so sweet and always available if needed. Knows her students on a personal level. I found the content to be extremely interesting and important for life, but when tests came around, I felt rushed to get through it. Tip is to study hard for tests and get 100's on HW.
Professor Matt seems nice at first and tries to relate to her students by saying she's an also always a student, but in reality she does not care so much. I sent her an email regarding an important topic that she never responded to and would not talk to me about after class when I tried once. her class is extremely boring and hard to pay attention.
I loved Prof Matta! She is a great lecturer/makes sure she explains everything in detail. She doesn't expect you to teach yourself which is nice. Homework graded on accuracy every week + two exams. The homework was frustrating because even if you go to class, it can be confusing and very time consuming. Overall good class though and she's very nice
Professor Matta was the best teacher at GWU. She explained everything and was patient with my classmate's questions, re-explaining things. She was fair with grades. Just do all the homeworks on time and attend class and you will be fine. She was always helpful outside of class and in office. She was very encouraging and few who knew my name.
I learned so much which I could apply to my current internship! I wish I had this professor sooner in my college classes. The topics were practical and important to business. Homeworks helped me with understanding but took time. She prepare us for tests. Matta is gifted with teaching. She has tough material to teach and does amazingly well.
Very thorough teacher. Made every topic crystal clear. Great speaker with relevant examples. Applied mathematics to real business settings. I learned so many new things about business behind the scenes. Outstanding, caring professor who helped me get thru some dark days. Thank you to Professor Matta!
Best professor at G-dub. Hands down. A visual teacher. Makes classes interactive. Somehow explains complicated math and stats and it makes sense. She teaches applied biz concepts. Finally, a fun, engaging class. Thank you, Professor Matta!
"Beautiful day here at GDUB. Square those puppies. How are my fellas in the sky deck?? ALGEBRA HAPPENS."
Professor Matta is an engaging and patient instructor. Her lectures are clear and relatable, with helpful examples. While the homework can be time-consuming, using resources like unstuck ai can make studying more efficient. Overall, a challenging but rewarding class.
Be prepared to memorize everything! Slides are not posted so lock in and memorize. Also, you get no feedback from weekly homework making studying difficult. Otherwise, Matta is a really sweet person and a good teacher.
Most frustrating class I've taken so far. She's not accessible outside of class nor is the TA. Very vague feedback on homework assignments which makes it hard to study. 10 homework assignments and 2 exams, your grade is out of 950 points. The study guide she gives before exams are pointless none of it is actually on the exam. I wouldn't take again
This professor was so helpful outside of class. She met me at 8:30am on three occassions when no other teachers had even arrived on campus! She also scheduled online help to get me through a touch chapter. She explained complicated math so that my brain could finally understand it. Brilliant professor! Explained things so were crystal clear.
Favorite at GWU. Caring, makes learning math easy, super helpful inside and out of class, patiently answered all student questions, smart cookie, friendly, generous with time, amazing speaker, intelligent, fair professor.
Pr Matta is my most fav at GW. A brilliant, cheerful teacher who explains patiently and again when my fellow classmates ask questions. Always very giving of her time. She writes on the marker board in her office, spins the computer screen around on her desk, and draws things on paper for me to understand computations and concepts. Recommend!
I learned so much from this class. The prof was the best ever. Clear lectures, about 50 math-50 concepts. She is very personable. Plenty of opportunity to learn on homeworks and leading up to tests.
She uses very clear grading. All dates listed in syllabus so it's easy to plan your semester. She has an uncanny way of explaining all things math which I loved. I enjoyed her examples. She's worked in industry so knows her stuff from a practical place.
We learned so many practical things about how a business functions. I was able to immediately use terminology and ideas on my job interviews. This class opened my eyes to a field that I was unaware of. Yes, it's sometimes tough, but it was so worth it to understand process analysis, throughput analysis, queuing logic, supply chain issues,...Ty.
Get ready to learn new things about business from behind the scene. Matta made math models accessible for even my brain to understand. There's homework every week but it helps you really dig into the material yourself so I liked the homework. The tests were more than a fair assessment over all topics covered. Great class. Great job by prof.
Truly great prof in B-school. I really enjoyed going to class. Matta was engaging, witty, and very bright. It was easy to grasp concepts with Matta's high energy and style of teaching. She is an excellent teacher, tireless, and smart! Highly recommend this class and professor to you! She un-complicates math.
Excellent class. Matta was fantastic. Very animated, helpful professor. Learned a ton about how businesses run.
We loved Professor Matta. Intelligent, witty, hard-working role model for us girls. I never missed a class! We learned how to make businesses faster, better, and cheaper. I never liked math before I had this class, and now I know many useful business techniques and operations concepts. The best class I've had at GWU --immediately practical.
This class taught me all about the inside of how businesses are run. The most useful biusiness class IMHO. Matta taught it with clear language and her classes were a joy to attend twice a week. She is an excellent professor and actually patiently answers our questions in class. There's a lot of material so do the readings each week!
Do the HW and readings. You will be fine. This class prepped me for a case interview. Matta is awesome. Go to class and participate and you will be amazed at what you can learn in a semester. Highly recommend.
I've found this class and professor to be very engaging. The professor is passionate about this topic and it's delivered in an interactive way. A very clear and gifted speaker. Super organized which enabled us to cover a whole textbook.
I just love this professor. She is clear in her lectures, makes learning fun, and is fair across the board.
Matta goes way too fast during her lectures and never spends time reviewing concepts, so you're essentially forced to teach yourself the content before exams. She also doesn't post completed notes to Blackboard. The weekly Problem Sets are also brutal. Don't take unless required.
Wonderful prof. Actually pauses throughout each class and asks for questions before going on in topics. She patiently answers all questions. I am learning so much this semester and it's paying off in my job interviews. Just go to class, do the reading assignments and homeworks, and you will be fine. Great class.
She is such a great person, so kind and accessible. Some of the material can be hard. DON'T leave the HW for the night before, it takes a long time to complete. Exams can be challenging, make sure you practice the math problems. Be warned the class is made of just a final, midterm, and 8 HWS. It's easy for your grade to get low. Regardless take her
I wish all my teachers taught like prof. Matta. She moves at a good pace for new concepts and always asks if there's questions. There are however only 9 HW assignments + 2 Exams to make your grade, so pay attention cause studying the night before for this class is a nightmare. Prof. Matta is the sweetest.
Do not take unless you need. Graded by only 8 hws (accuracy based) and 2 exams. Solutions for the problems in the slides are not posted on blackboard, she leaves them blank.
Take this one! This is the first time that someone is actually teaching. Really teaching. Lectures and topics are organized. There's a plan and we stick to it. She makes a difficult math topic come alive through interaction and excellent lively lectures. I'm learning concepts that I didn't even know existed. Just do the HWs! It's fine.
Wouldn't recommend unless you are required to take. It's just boring and harder than it should be. She's not that bad a professor just not great at explaining if you are confused. She goes quickly and does not explain much.
Terrific intro to Ops. The professor was super organized and great at conveying the topic. Easy to understand. Just do the readings and homework and it's all very straight forward. I learned so many interesting things that I never knew even existed. The prof is so accessible and easy to talk to. I met many times; she was so patient. Thumbs up!
Professor was an exceptional educator whose passion was clear. Their lectures are consistently clear, engaging, and organized. They foster an inclusive, encouraging learning environment where questions are welcomed. Beyond the classroom, the professor is remarkably supportive—always willing to provide guidance, feedback, and mentorship.
prof matta is very lively and makes lectures interesting. the weekly hw sets are brutal but do them and try bc they are a big part of ur grade and ur going to want the cushion to fall back on for the midterm
Professor Matta is very well respected in her field and it is clear that she is an expert in the field of Ops Management. This is a class that is possible to succeed in if you put in the right effort… that being said, the margin of error to get an A is extremely small (100 total exam questions, you can only get 10 wrong before you're in A- range).
I would not recommend unless you really need to take this class. There are weekly practice sets(HW) and they are extremely hard. She moves really quickly and there are never answer keys for any in class or hw problems, so it is hard to understand the math. Exams are intense. Good luck!
Professor Matta, is a very sweet individual. But her class is very hard. It's all based in 9 homework and 2 exams that are 50 questions each. I think that it's a lot of material to only be tested in 2 exams. Doesn't give extra credit or curve. In summary, If you can take other classes do that, DONT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU DONT HAVE TO.
This is my best class at GWU. I met with Matta several times during flexible office hours to discuss the class and my job search. She was accessible, positive, and helpful. The class itself was organized and straight forward. She is a great teacher and asks us if we have questions and will ALWAYS go back and re-explain stuff. Great class/prof.
You came to college to learn and you will in this class! I learned many new things about operations deep inside businesses. It was easy to stay up with class because of weekly homeworks. Also, Matta was always helpful with guidance. Her lectures were full of visual aides and organized. She is a role model for women in mathematics, but humble.
There are no pop quizzes. You know you have a hw per week and a midterm and final. Quite standard grades. The lectures were clear and active. Students could participate throughout. Very open, encouraging atmosphere. She was so cheerful each day. I really looked forward to this class.
Less than half was math and the math was not difficult. I appreciated the applications to services and manufacturing. The examples tied into consulting work and are valuable for my future career. The info was already useful on my last interview. This class was so interesting and Matta is such an excellent explainer of seemingly any topic. TY.
Professor Matta is a very lovely person. However, the weekly problem sets are very challenging, and I did not feel significantly prepared from the lectures to complete them. She is very strict, so there are no extensions, but your lowest HW is dropped at the end.
The lectures and topics are organized. We practice problems in class together which was very helpful. Pf Matta always goes slowly and fields Qs. She shows so much patience. The HW is a breeze each week if you do the work and attend class. She even built in review sessions to field Qs before exams. Highly enjoyable class all in all.
The best Professor at GWU. Full stop. Great at explaining things in multiple ways. Worked with me individually. Mentored me through interviews. Grades, reading, homework, and exams laid out in syllabus. There were no surprises. The lectures followed the readings. The Homeworks followed the lectures.
