She is very hard don't take economics if she is teaching it.
there are two types of hard teachers: rewarding hard, and frustrating hard. She is definately the latter. And she hates guys. And apparently teaching undergrads too.
Avoid at all costs. Horrible teacher.
avoid at all costs. she hates men and humans in general. very mean lady who thinks she is a superior intellect. everything has to be done exactly her way. if you are thinking about taking the class, stop. if you are in it, get out as fast as possible

good, but expect work.
I'm surprised the first three people here were so nice to her...every question on every test is meant to trip you up. It doesn't matter how well you know the material, or how hard you've studied. INCREDIBLY frustrating and a serious blow to my GPA
very very difficult
avoid at all costs. She bases everything on tests, is not helpfull at all even though she may appear to be at times, and you will NOT do good n her tests. She will turn you away from economics forever
MEAN, vindictive, vengeful woman with precisely one idea on how everything must be done. i think she wants to watch you do poorly. Take her class only if you wnat to study econ every spare minute of every spare today just to be able to pull off a C
She seems to be battling an inferiority complex by making her class artificially hard. She likes trick questions and badly worded questions. Never admits she's wrong - even though she definately is from time to time. Definately believes she's teaching high school and micromanages WAY too much.
EVIL, horrible woman.
She's a tough teacher but you will learn the material. She gives a quizz after each chapter and this really helps for the tests.
worst teacher ever. AVOID AT ANY TIME

WORST TEACHER EVER! Seriously, words her problems in a very confusing manner. I believe she may do this to have greater power over what grades she wants to give out, as opposed to what grade you might deserve. Honestly appears more interested in punishing than educating.
Very hard, but teaches you a lot. Her tests are extremely hard and you really need to know the material. I ended up with a good grade, but I know a lot of people did not do well. If you have her, do your work, go to class, and study hard.

DON'T DO IT! if you have any respect for your gpa...

Dr. McGoldrick, who can come off as rude and uncaring, actually will put in the time for those students willing to do the same. Her tests are extremely fair, giving you exactly what you need to know beforehand, and she really does want you to learn, and will put in the effort to make that happen.
If you are interested in learning and not simply trying to take a blow off class (as indicated by the obviously vindictive student comments below) then you should take her class. No it is not the easiest class, but you will learn a lot if you apply yourself.
Expect to work hard and learn a lot. Lots of quizzes prepare you for exams.
Writing a paper that has an original contribution is an overwhelming process. She made this much easier by walking us through the process and providing tons of feedback on drafts of our papers. She put in more effort reviewing our work than any other teacher I have ever had.
grades final paper too hard
Drop. NOW.
Excellent teacher. Intimidating at first but if you go to class, take notes, and realize what she's looking for, the class is a breeze. Plus she allows you to retake exams and is ALWAYS around for extra help. Highly recommended.
Very intimidating at first, but she might be the best teacher I've ever had. The class is very challenging, but you learn a lot and she's always there to help you out. She really wants her students to succeed. Don't be afraid to ask for help!

apears to be really intimidating, but u can learn the most in class, and no hw after class!
Office meetings really helped me!
Really willing to give extra help
Challenge quizzes are a plus
Definately have to go to class
Appears intimidating because she wants you to learn. You will get reading, then the next day she will go over story problems involving the content you learned so just make sure you know how to do her examples and understand the concepts. The quizzes were mostly story problems so again, understand concepts.
She is very clear, but good luck studying for quizzes and tests!
Dr M is the best teacher ever! Highly recommended! Her teaching style is so great, that it makes learning very easy, and she is always available in her office to go over anything you didn't understand. If you fully get her examples, you shouldn't have problems acing quizzes and exams. You can retake 2 quizzes and she drops the lowest quiz grade.
She is a great teacher. Her quizzes are tough but her tests/final is very fair and if you study you can do well. She wants to help you because she knows that the class if hard. Bottom line: if you try to succeed, you can succeed with her.

This class was the most challenging class ever! Within the first week I thought for sure I was going to fail. I never got above a 70% on her quizzes but I studying A TON for her tests and ended up doing really well. She is a very very difficult professor but she wants you to succeed and is more than willing to help you. Take her if you are brave!
Some professors are crystal clear, wonderful professors. That is what McGoldrick could be described as. Despite effectiveness however, she has a very distinct way of teaching that you must adapt to immediately should you expect to see progress. I couldn't adapt and I refused to let myself become lost,so I dropped.Think carefully before taking her.
Great professor. Fair in tests and grading. not greedy in giving partial credit. Goes fast during lectures, couldnt keep with with her always. Doenst emphasize participation. what matters is quizes and exams. If you work, you will get an A. Takke her if you care to get ur moneys worth at this school
If you are willing to put in the work outside of the classroom you can do very well in her class. She explains the material very well. Her quizzes are difficult, but they are straight from the quizzes. The tests are not nearly as hard as the quizzes. She isn't the easiest teacher but she is a good one. Typical intense teacher
Even with getting a C+ in her class, I cane easily say Dr. M was the best teacher I had this semester. She's tough, and expects you to work for your grade, but is very fair. Go to her office hours and she will drop everything to help you with a problem. If you want an easy A, don't take her, if you want to learn Econ TAKE HER

She is really hard. She goes really fast through the material in class. You definitely have to read the textbook if you don't want to be left behind. She really wants to help get you a good grade, but her method of teaching was just not my thing. She's nice but difficult.
Hardest class I have ever taken in my life. Trying to look over your notes is extremely hard because they are just a vomit of incomprehensible graphs. Moves very fast through material and has a teaching style that is hard to adjust to. If you aren't a rigorous worker, KimMarie will leave your GPA in ruins. You won't even learn that much. Drop now.
I think that Professor M is among the best I've had so far at U of R. There's no doubt that she's tough and you have to work in her class. She moves through material pretty quickly in class, but goes through the material in a logical way that helps you understand. Definitely need to put the time in for this class but she's a very good professor.
I didn't really have an interest in the business school until taking this class. Now I am a business minor. She is a great professor. Her quizzes are hard but her tests and final exam are very fair and appropriate for the course level. She is also very helpful and wants you to succeed.
I had no previous knowledge of microeconomics and I left the class feeling very accomplished! The first two quizzes are tough but then the class is very fair. My favorite professor so far
Kim is honestly the best professor I have had so far. She treats you like an able minded person and expects you to perform that way. If you wanted to be treated like you're smart- take her. she will teach all those who are willing to learn. She won't give you a grade you don't deserve.
Great teacher! She makes concepts understandable and is very helpful outside of class. Good sense of humor, excited. She seems to really love what she is doing. There are a lot of opportunities for extra-credit, thanks to these it is easy to walk out with an A if you really study for tests. TAKE HER!
Probably the best professor I have ever had. I left her class every day feeling like I learned something and actually understood it. She presents the information in a very clear way so that it is not confusing. Her tests are hard but there was never a surprise or unfair question. As long as you pay attention and study you'll learn so much.
McGoldrick is a very nice professor. She is always super friendly at her office hours and happy to help. HOWEVER, her classes are very difficult and if econ isnt your thing, its hard to keep up with her. She talks very very fast and its hard to ask questions in class. Tests and quizzes are extremely hard but homework grade really helps your grade
Dr. M can be very tough at times but overall is helpful if you need to get through a rough patch. If you haven't taken Micro before this will probably be hard. I did worse in this class than I did in my AP micro class in private school... Overall, she's relatively tough
Wonderful teacher
McGoldrick can be picky in free-response questions, but she is a good teacher who has great explanatory ability. She has flexible office hours, and she is eager to help students with their weak points. She seems intimidating at first, but she is actually a pretty nice person.
McGoldrick is an incredible professor. I once heard her referred to as a "powerhouse" and its completely true. She knows her stuff and organizes her lesson plan so it is easy to grasp. The homework and quizzes prepare you well for the exams, and she is very helpful in her office hours. She wants to see her students succeed.
Goes 200% throughout the entire block. Very good at explaining concepts, but moves very fast so you have to be able to pay attention and take notes. Very nitpicky about short answer questions and multiple choice is worth a lot. Gives extra credit if you haven't missed a class. Overall she is a very good professor and you will learn a lot.
McGoldrick is the most amazing professor I ever have. She is very challenging but you leave with an amazing understanding of economics. Her lectures are engaging and she moves very fast. There are many opportunities for extra credit. She has amazing office hours and is always willing to help you. Although her class is hard, I would recommend it.
She is fair. What she teaches in class is what is on the tests. You didn't have to have taken economics before to do well in the class, but you do have to work hard and really study for the tests and quizzes. My biggest tip to doing well in this class is taking really good notes-write down everything that is on the board as well as what she says.
McGoldrick is good professor. She knows her stuff & is organized when it comes to class schedule and office hours. Moves extremely fast however. There's never a second in class when you aren't writing something down or she isn't talking. Have to work very hard for good grade & be dedicated to it! Tough grader, nit-picky, and loves trick questions
Dr. McGoldrick is not an easy professor, but she teaches you a lot of useful information and always applies it to real life and gets you to participate. Reading the book is necessary if you want to get the best grades on tests and quizzes, as some material is not covered in class. Requires a long paper, but is willing to help & gives good feedback.
Dr.M is probably one of, if not the, best econ professor in the department. She is very tough and goes through the material fast but she is clear and consistent throughout the entire semester. I do not think I would have done well in this class if it weren't for her. She makes herself available for extra help. Tests are like homework. 10/10
She's tough, but her class is very interesting.
So hard, so worth it. Never miss class, it's not required that you be there but you will fail. So smart.
Honestly the best professor I've ever had. She's extremely challenging and has high expectations, but she's also so willing to help and truly wants you to succeed. She comes to class very prepared and uses real-world examples and numbers. Highly recommend her if you're majoring in Econ.
Dr. McGoldrick is one of the best professors I've ever had!! She is very challenging and you are going to have to work hard for this class, but you're actually going to learn a lot! I highly recommend her if you're taking ECON for your major/minor. She's only strict, so that you take her class seriously. In reality, she's pretty funny and chill!!
She's EXTREMELY tough if you're a non-econ major. Left my GPA in ruins. Her tests are really tough and she cuts points on tests if you didn't solve the questions using the method she used in the class handouts. DO NOT TAKE HER.
she is a good professor but incredibly tough
Amazing professor! I learned so much in her class and would definitely take her again despite how tough it was. It's awesome when you find a teacher who's so knowledgeable and passionate about the subject she teaches.
Terrible teacher, super tough, is not lenient in the slightest and has a horrible attitude. Would highly advise anyone not to take her classes ever.
She get's a bad rep because she's a very tough ECON101 professor and people think ECON101 should be easy. I took her class freshman fall and didn't get a good grade but learned a lot. I became thankful I was taking her once I got to Micro Theory.
Despite some negative reviews about her, she really is a fantastic teacher for the field of economics. She has a lot of knowledge to give about it. The quizzes and tests do not throw any curveballs. The homework is pretty easy. Her personality is a little odd, but she is genuinely nice and really wants you to succeed and understand microeconomics.
I have never had a teacher like this before. Absolutely avoid.
Explains things really well and very organized about the class material. Very clear grading criteria. If you work hard, you will get a good grade. Everything on the exam is what you would expect. Grading is very fair. Definitely recommend this professor.
Not like any professor I've ever taken, but a great professor nonetheless. She has very clear grading criteria, you have homework once a week then the same group homework, tests are exactly what is taught in class but you have to know the info. If you don't go to class you won't pass. Very straightforward but also hard. Accessible outside class.
Extremely tough, but incredible teacher. You will learn a lot, but I wouldn't recommend her unless you are an Econ major, it wont be worth the damage to your GPA (and the time it will take away from other courses).
Professor McGoldrick knows her stuff. Her notes are fast-paced but everything is explained in detail so you should be ok. Her exams are also really tough make sure you study hard for them. I learned a ton from this class and would recommend her as a professor
easily the best prof I've ever had, she is expects a lot out of you but her expectations are clear tests are hard and required a lot of time to study for them, i would recommend taking this class with a lighter load its not impossible and anything you don't understand she will help out with I had many trips to her office and was so helpful
Best advice I ever got was to drop her class and take Monks. All my friends who stayed in the class dropped their econ majors because of her. I took Monks and thrived.
This class is difficult for sure. I remember those Thursday nights when I stayed up till 2 am preparing for exams on Fridays. Her lectures are intense. However, Dr. M teaches REALLY well and I learned a LOT. Her expectations of problem-solving are high, but there are extra credits that help you succeed. Very available during office hours.
GOAT: Tough grader for sure; try not to skip any step when you show your work. My grade drops significantly during the first exam even though I have gotten the correct answer because I skipped step. That being said, she looks so much into the process of your work. Office hour is great, and so is her teaching. I would take her class over and over
I would recommend taking another professor for this course. This professor is known in the Business school for being a tough grader and she lives up to the name. If you have to take this course, always be prepared as she might make you leave the class if you aren't prepared.
JUST TAKE HER CLASS; she is worth the pain. Heavy materials. If you want your time to be well-spent, you might as well want to put some extra effort and be really good at it. She is super hard, smart, clear, tough grader. You have problem sets after each chapter; all it does is to prep you for test which I will study for anyway. SO no complaint.
I took two classes with her and neither was a pleasant experience. She is very picky in her grading, gives an insane amount of work and will make you feel stupid if you ask her questions.
If you major in Econ, take McGoldrick. You will learn so much. It is an extremely difficult class, but you will come out very well versed in microeconomics and ready to excel in hi
One of the most productive classes I've had. Very lecture-based and heavy with problem-solving sets but it's worth it. The professor is accessible both in and outside of the classroom, ready to answer follow-up questions and aware of what she is doing. The class requires some time to prepare but if you plan accordingly, it works out just well.
I really enjoyed this class and Dr. M, if you like econ and did well in mirco, I think you will too. Only homework is about 7 problem sets total. Exams are tough, there are 5 of them but no final. You will need to know every little detail about everything and the intuition behind it, but it is all covered in class, so it's all about studying well.
My favorite Econ Prof so far
Fair teacher, but not worth the mental stress they will put you through! To the contrary, reviews here make them look like an easy-A and compassionate.
Avoid this professor. She will make you feel little
I took 271 with Dr.M last semester and am taking ECON331 with her now. Wonderful, caring and strict professor. TOUGH grader but I won't complain about the things idk in exams. Study extremely hard and go to office hours once you have any tiny questions. You may think she's rigorous but she's actually super kind if you're really paying many efforts.
This professor grades really tough, really looks into details. A small mistake could reduct a lot of points. DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TAKE IT
A tough class
Read other comments and ask yourself why you'd ever take this class. Avoid it like the plague. I have never received a lower grade than I got on all 4 exams I took in this class. ~3.8GPA, now obliterated. Don't do it. Met 3x(!) a week for longer than allowed. Not one to back down from a challenge, but I highly recommend pursuing other sections. GL.
Dr. M runs a tight ship: she assigns a lot of work, grades harshly, and can be intimidating. However, she makes herself very accessible, exams are not hard they just cover absolutely everything from lecture, and there is somewhat of a buffer from in-class problem solving sessions. I would definitely take her again, but I don't think everyone would.
Exams are too long and difficult to finish in her allotted window. Very difficult to get any sort of partial credit from her. She takes the human aspect out of teaching and does not give leeway in grading or final grades. Also changed course from twice a week to 3 times just because she wanted to. Avoid her at all costs if you can
This class is very hard and time consuming but she tells you exactly how to succeed. Optional final and 1/5 of grade is effort based. The theoretical material is difficult but it you continually practice the problem sets you will do ok on the test and effort points. Your either going to love and hate her style of teaching so self-reflection is key.
As an econ major, Dr. M has been one of the best professors I have had. I have spent everyday in her office going over problems and receiving feedback. Micro Econ Theory is just a really hard class, but she lays out in the beginning how to best succeed in her class.
She's a good lecturer that has a grading scale that allows you to take the final to override your grade in the class which is made up of 4 midterms worth 80% and a free 20%. Sometimes I disagreed with the number of points she would take off on some tests, but she also would not take off as many points for math errors, so it all balanced out.
