had good clarity although she did, at times, go a bit fast on the notes.. she's helpful when asked. tests and quizzes aren't hard if you pay attention and take good notes :]

I liked this class. I was interested and I loved doing the labs. Nyguen is a good teacher, I would recommend her. She's helpful if you're having trouble. Just make sure to stay on top of things.
Good teacher....if you understood what you were doing that by itself is good enough to at least pass. If you don't understand something ask her she'll make sure you do.... She was great about letting us go early if she had tought everything for the day..she never really tried to hold us from leaving if really she was done teaching *i took her as a night class which was 2 1/2 hours long twice a week* so its a little different but im sure she's the same way regularly.
Excellent teacher!! Definitely easy tests........probably the easiest chemistry instructor at Highline. Highly recommended if you need to keep a competitive GPA for UW!!
i loved her. shes a great person and very sweet. i would take her again in a second
Easy "A" if attend every class and put a little effort into studying. Easiest chemistry class that I've ever had. Tests are based on last year's tests that she gives you to study. How much easier could it be?
She is perfect teacher!!!!! I love her very much. I wish every teacher would be like she..
GREAT TEACHER! I wish I could have taken her for my whole college career. If you have to take Chemistry you should definitely take her.
she exlains thing really wel that you could understand the concept
She is a great teacher! I loved her class. She explains things very clearly. Take her!
Marie is awesome...She made me learn so much in chemistry. I highly recommend her because she is very helpful and nice and she doesn't talk down on her students and is always willing to help out regardless. You should take her especially if you're not that good in chemistry/math.
Awesome teacher! Very helpful. Makes time during lecture for questions. Has all her lecture notes available on Angel. Tests are directly from her Study Guide. I wish she could teach all of my classes!!
SHE is a great teacher, explains clearly because she uses white boards and does problems with the class. So i recommend people to sit in the front so you can follow along with her. her test are exaxtly like the study guide. no suprises. and gives extra credit! you learn alot too! i totally recommend her =)
she is a great teacher and explains the material very well so even if you are stupid like me you will learn chemistry really easily. she gives extra credit, works out alot of problems in class, she has her lecture notes available online, she assignes online hw which is very helpful because if you get a problem wrong it will walk you through steps
Do not take if it's one day a week. The lectures are very fast/crammed and due dates are very strict. Don't take if you're looking to fulfill a science credit, if you are protecting a grade and or have trouble studying for a test on your own. She is nice outside class and might be better with a DAILY class schedule.
Very nice and informative professor. She was not too hard on us non-engineering majors. Show up to class, pay attention, take some lite notes, do the homework (not a lot of it) and you will be just fine. No group work / projects after class hours (the best part)
The hybrid class was more of an online class - Marie showed up unprepared for tests (printing them out minutes before without proofing them, leading to impossible to answer questions), and cancelled labs and lectures last minute. Don't take the once a week class, hold out for the daily.
Great teacher. One of my favs at highline. I would want her to teach all my courses. An easy A if you pay attention, ask questions and study. Her study guides are like no other. It's soo accurate and if you follow it and understand it you will do well on the exams. And if you don't understand, all you need to do is meet with her!
Marie is a nice teacher with a very positive attitude. Too bad being a good teacher requires more than just being nice. The woman knowns a lot, but SUCKS at teaching. I had to teach everything to myself. Her lectures are super unorganized. I earned an A, but it was only because I spent a ton of time teaching the material to myself.
I don't like this teacher AT ALL. She doesn't help, and if you have a question it's not clarified very well. I wouldn't recommend this class. Also, whatever is on the study guides.....is not necessarily what is on the test..... BEWARE!
I hated chemistry in high school but did really well in this class because Marie made it as easy as possible. She gives practice tests to help you study and also holds study sessions where she will help you. She may be a little scatter brained at times but I still think she is one of the best teachers that I have had at Highline.
This class is NOT as easy as everyone says. I took chem in high school, decided to take this as a re-fresher since it had been 2 years, and found the only reason I got stuff was I had already learned it. My peers were lost. HW isn't too hard, but the tests are challenging. She tends to not be clear in lecture what will actually show up.
She was great. Just read and prepare like you should and you will be fine. She is really great about helping you one on one if you need it for the tricky stuff :)
Marie is really nice and really knows the subject . I took the 2 day a week class and you really have to be committed to this class to succeed. Because everything goes quick . But she has practice exams and how to work them online and the questions on test are pretty much identical with different words and numbers . And you have to get the basic concepts of math and not get confused that instead of variables, it's elements instead.if you like math and willing to study hard, take it !
Very nice teacher. Will be understanding if there is communication. However, I took a once a week class so it was mainly a teach-yourself course and that was the most difficult part. She doesn't really go over material. Lots of memorization. Always a little unorganized, but good otherwise.
Great teacher, knows the material well. There were quite a few changes to the schedule we were supposed to follow, meaning labs we were going to do turned into teacher demonstrations. This was a one day a week class and she let us out early most of the time. If you do the reading, pay attention to lectures and demonstrations you'll do great.
Marie is the best chem teacher ever! I learned a lot in just 10 weeks. If you hate chem as I used to--take her! By the end of the quarter you will love it!I took one day/week hybrid class and did really well. Marie is the best!!!
This teacher is awesome! I highly recommend you take her if you don't already have a favorite in chemistry. She makes class fun and always goes over everything before the test, which helps. Gives great notes too.
she's really easy on the grading but she's really strict when it comes to being on time to come to the class and submitting assignments and being a mature college student.
Marie is a fun teacher! She uses food analogies to explain concepts and food I understand. She only collects homework for every other chapter. Homework isn't graded either, your only deducted points if you fail to turn it in. She goes over what will be on each test. She provides practice tests and final!!
Hands down, the best teacher. She explains everything clearly & breaks it down for you to understand. Never used my txtbook except for HW that she just checked off. I only studied off her notes & still pulled a 3.7! Extra credit was given. 3 exams & easy lab quizzes. It's a hybrid class too. Wish she taught Chem 131. She is a must take teacher!!!!
Although Marie is a nice lady this class is very challenging. I took the one day a week course and it was a heavy load lots of new concepts and memorization. Marie's exams are very unforgiving in this particular course. If I had to do it over again I probably would not take this class again, just because I realize I do not enjoy chemistry.
Marie is a great teacher, it was a little difficult to take a class only twice a week but she did a pretty great job not making the load too big. She knew everyone's names by the end of the quarter. Chemistry was one of the more difficult classes I've taken but if you take notes and study you will do fine, I would definitely suggest Marie.
Marie's Chem class is easy to pass you just have to make sure to do all the homework and participle in class. She's not a tough grader and the tests are very easy to pass. She's not very good at explaining stuff so you understand it and she's sometimes forgetful, but overall she's a good teacher and if you do the homework passing should be easy.
Marie seems pretty erratic at first and seems very fast during lecture, but she does her best at explaining concepts and equations. She gives practice exams from the previous quarter and they are NOT exactly the same, but are a very good study tool for exams. Personally she seemed scary at first, but if you need one-on-one time she is happy to help
Marie seems intimidating at first but she's one of the best teachers I've had at Highline! Although she goes very fast on her lectures and sometimes confusing to understand, she is always there when you need help. Just make sure you study everyday to pass her class.
She's one of the best teachers I've ever had at Highline. She's always super clear on what's going to be on the test. There's like 4 tests, weekly lab reports, and easy quizzes every other week. This class will require time and effort especially if this is the first chemistry class you're taking. But it's possible to get 4.0.
Marie is a good teacher but can be fast at explaining material so ask questions! She doesn't drop exams but exams aren't really difficult since they're based on the study guide not the practice test! The practice test is there for you to take and study.
Marie is amazing, you work through the class and if you need help just ask questions! I went to her office once and she was really happy to help me. You NEED to study, do the homework, show up, and treat this like an actual class if you want to pass. Spent about 2 or 3 hours out of class studying each week, not too bad.
Not only does she teach chem well, but also she kept us updated for scholarships and campus opportunities and events. Study the Study outline, and practice tests, i am pretty sure you will do great. Dont listen to other review because this is the easiest going instructor and inspiring. it is sad she is not teaching chem 131. i took hybrid amazing.
Gives students many chances to make up work and is always happy to help!
She is a great teacher, and very helpful. She make the class seems so easy. She is very understanding and very fast too.
She says Okay after every word
Marie is a great teacher. If you have questions, she's there to help. She explains exactly what's on test. no surprises. Graded weigh mostly on tests & labs. If you have an emergency, she will work w/you. She provides notes. No need to buy book. I did well in her class - A (overall GPA 3.9). Would take again.
I took both 110 and 121 from Marie. She gives out spot on study guides and practice tests that are very similar to the real thing. She welcomes questions and advertises her office hours. Just make sure you're responsible and you actually study. If you don't pass because you didn't study then that's kinda your problem - not hers.
She was good. Her test was based on the lecture and paper that she gives, so if you listen carefully and study after the class, you can easy pass.
Chemistry class I took with this instructor is not very educational. It was for non-chemistry majoring students and not much learned here but she is very strict on grading. You will not get any points if you do your homework but if you do not do it you loose points. A lot of unnecessary memorization of things you have no clue what they mean.
Upcoming assignments are not always posted on the calendar - even if classes are canceled/assignments changed due to weather. Lectures tend to be fast and disorganized. Some test questions are not taught during homework or emphasized on study guides. Overall, you'd better already be a great student if you expect to do well in her class.
Pros: Explains everything you need to know, gives out study guides for every test so there are no surprises, also provides old tests with key(same as actual thing just switches up numbers/elements), very caring and understanding, helpful in office hours. Cons: Fast paced, teaching style is unorganized just writes notes on whiteboard.
Best Chem121 teacher. Loved Marie! Our class only met twice a week but everything was really clear and straightforward. she doesn't complicate problems. Exams are almost exactly like the practice ones she gives! Just go over that several times and make sure you get everything and you're good. She's also really understanding and caring.
Shes great! She explains things really well. Shes one of the best chem teachers Ive taken.
Explains concepts well, is clear about what will be tested, and gives students a lot of resources to succeed. Nice person too. Would definitely recommend.
Marie is a sweetheart! Her grading is clear but I do have to say her lectures are a bit confusing and she's confusing about due dates. She does provide practice exams and study those and I guarantee you will pass! I loved her grading criteria
Marie is the best Chem Teacher at HC. She is an amazing lady and is so caring. I missed 2 weeks due to an illness and Marie worked with me to keep me on track. She gives you past tests to study off of and this helps soo much. Sometimes I didn't understand her lecture because she went fast, but people would just ask questions and then she'd clarify.
I loved Marie. I took Chemistry with another teacher and I failed but with her i got 3.6. She is clear on expectations and provides a lot of help. She reviews everything before an exam. Study the lecture on the exam and do the practice test and you will pass. I took the hybrid class
Excellent teacher! She made a difficult subject (to me) easy to grasp with relatable examples. She moves fast, but the tutoring center can help if you miss something. Book not needed except for homework questions, which were seldom assigned.
She's awesome! She made it so easy to understand chemistry. Took it with a previous teacher and had to drop it. Ms Nguyen makes it easy to follow. She lets you know exactly what's she's expecting on her exams. Don't miss class because her lectures are very helpful. I wish she taught another chem class because I would definitely take her again.
Marie was a really great teacher! She made Chemistry very quick to grasp. If you ever feel confused on a topic, go to her office hours and honestly, she'll make it easier to understand. I usually don't like office hours because some teachers make students feel bad, but she's really caring. Very helpful also.
Marie is the best teacher I've had so far, she is nice and makes sure to learn your name the 1st week of class. She really explains things really well and makes it easy to learn. The tests were okay, you just have to study before and you'll be fine. Attendance for normal days (no labs) aren't mandatory but lab days and tests attendance is mandatory
The class was fun throughout the quarter, she makes everything looks simple,i guess i can say she is easy and lovable teacher treats everyone equal ,i would retake the class.
Shes really sweet!
She is amazing and understanding ready to help always in making you understand the concept.
Marie is absolutely amazing. From being terrified by my HS Chem teacher she made chemistry a walk in the park. Her lectures are very step by step so you understand the concepts. Online homework, 4 exams and 1 final. The study guides she gives you are super helpful for exams. Honestly this was the best class Ive taken in pre-nursing highly recommend
Chemistry 110 online was strange, the formatting was just weird. You had a quiz basically every week, but they were only open at specific time of 10:00-10:20 AM on fridays. This was very annoying, as the point of an online class is to be able to set your own schedule. But she is an easy A, if you watch the lectures and do the homework. Overall good
Marie is the best chem prof there is at Highline. She is super nice and caring. She might sound a little passive-aggressive but that's just how she talks. Her lectures are very helpful and homework is due once a week. Labs are on Friday as well as some quizzes. All in all, enjoyable class experience and I HIGHLY recommend her if you need to take ch
Pretty helpful but the class moves very fast
This class was a roller coaster, the teacher is absolutely amazing the best chem teacher at highline hands down. Coming from someone who doesnt like chem she made the criteria easily understandable. However, the course does move fast and you need to study but shes gives you study guides and previous exams Wich are really similar to the test 10/10
Her lectures were educational and well planned. She provided word files every week, so no need to buy a book. All the quiz was similar to the previous test examples she provided. She is very sweet and caring. Only problem was that she made minor mistakes too often, which made thing a bit confusing. Anyway, I'd take her class anytime!
Marie explained everything very well in class and always asked if you have questions before she moves to the next lesson. Always available during office hours. She also made lab fun and the lab work matched the experiment. Her test were what she taught, no surprise or things she did not teach. She really taught for us to learn the material.
Ok: If you feel like you are one of those people that could never do chem, TAKE MARIE. She is very clear on what you need to do and very available during office hours for questions. She cares about how students are doing and makes an effort to get to know people. She is the kind of teacher I will remember.
She's good. Gives you study guides that are exactly like the quizzes. Class is easy but don't slack off. Make sure to read the chapters before coming to class. A few quizzes. Her deadlines are weird, assignments are due at 5 pm or 11 am so beware of that. RS students could take this as a starting class.
If you are thinking chem is going to be hard because maybe you struggle with math, etc. Marie is the way to go! She has videos on each question that will be on the test and she goes over how to do all of them! If you study and watch the videos on how to solve each question you will do great! I went from a F to A in a matter of 2 weeks if you study!
I struggle with anything science related, so this class was really hard for me. Quizzes every two weeks. this class is really FAST PACED like istg you cannot catch a break in this class. she includes study guides, and past tests that are really similar to the tests you'll be taking which i really liked but other than marie just a fine prof imo
Even though I got a 4.0, I had to commit my life to it! I wish I never took this course!1 This course made me rethink my career as a chemist.
very hard
Marie was great! She tells you exactly what she expects from you and lectures the difficult concepts. If you are struggling, go to office hours!! Honestly really hard to fail this class. Workload isn't heavy and quizzes are biweekly. Wish she taught Chem 131!!
Take her
I literally loved this professor. Class was easy and I am so bad at chemistry. No surprise or confusing questions on any of the biweekly quizzes that you take. She's also really funny and remembers every student by name. Take her class.
Marie is very nice, great professor and always laid back and nice to her students. Has funny mom sense of humor, is understanding and will help you if you ask. Make sure you study practice quizzes, and be ready to spend on textbooks. She provides quizzes for Chem110 that are identical to the practice quizzes. Labs are fun. Class layout is easy!
I loved her class. She is super easy going. The only thing I did not like about her teaching...is she has weekly test and HW but she doesn't give "extra points assignment's". She is fun and super sweet. She makes you do Lab and her assignments are easy and takes only 5 minutes to do. Take her and do study for the quizzes, they are easy!
It's impossible to fail this class if you just do the work. Attendance is the most important thing in this class due to there being a quiz and a lab being done every week. There is homework every week but it's very easy due to the answers quite literally being in the textbook, as well as study guides for the quizzes in canvas. easy science credit
This class is mainly relied on memorization. The quizzes were basically the study guides so if you studies well, then you would ace all of the quizzes. She's a very harsh grader though. She takes points away for the smallest mistake, like if you spelled something wrong. Labs were fun if you're with fun people, so I recommend taking it with friends.
Marie is a kind, thoughtful and caring teacher. She truly wants her students to succeed. I highly recommend you take this class for chemistry :) Even if math and equations are difficult for you Marie offers time and space to help you learn
Super nice teacher, but seemed very busy/scattered. The tests and hw were very simple. However, there were very few questions on tests, which made it easy to lose lots of points. Study guides are provided though. Easy class.
She is one of the best chemistry teache
This is the best chem professor out there! Marie is very caring and is accessible outside of class. Her quizzes are very straightforward. It is hard to fail this class with all the resources she gives you. She has videos for old quizzes and study guides, which she basically gives you the answers. If you just try in this class, you will succeed.
Getting an A+ in her class is very achievable if you simply do your work and stay consistent. She explains everything clearly and is always willing to help. You won't regret taking her class and she truly cares about each and every student. 10/10 highly recommended!
