Chemistry just sucks, but she's pretty cool.
Awesome, highly intelligent. I took the class over the summer, and it was mostly getting slide-show based lectures and doing simple lab experiments. My lab partner really sucked though.
Dr. Wolff really knows Organic chemistry and is a great instructor. She will go out of her way to help you.
good teacher
chemistry sucks & she did nothing to help make it better.her bitter sarcasm is comical until it is aimed at u.she is very smart, but seems to have a hard time bringing her intelligence level down to a point where the kids understand whats happening
She laughes at you when you ask a question. She is confusing with her directions. She is a hard teacher. She thinks everyone has a phd in chem like her when no one does.
I just love this woman! One of the best teachers at JJC.
Organic chemistry is a difficult class and a lot of work but Dr. Wolff is very helpful and explains thing well. She is one of the best teachers I had at JJC even though this was one of the toughest classes I had.
Chem 102 is a tough class. I didn't do well in chem 101, but am feeling good about this class. She is nice even when some students are rude. Does Dr Wolff teach math.
Dr. Wolff is a great professor. It is clear that she genuinely cares about her job and her students. If you ask her for help she will do just about everything possible to help you. Chemisry is so hard and boring, but at least she's a sweetie.
This class was awful but Dr. Wolff is a good teacher and will go out of her way to help you.
Dr. Wolff has this quirky sense of humor that helps make the class less horrible. Chemistry overall is horrible, but she is a really good professor. I would recommend her above any of the rest of the chemistry professors at JJC.
very easy class although she talked about 101 being harder...very knowledgable
Very hard class, but Dr. Wolff is willing to help when needed.
Excellent lecturer;poor teacher.Introduces new processes by quiz(-);compensates by not valuing the quizzes highly(+).Sumtimz demeaning 2 students.Has high performance standards(+),particularly in the lab(+). Recommended only 4 those who assimulate and translate information well. You MUST work hard.
Dr. Wolff made organic very easy, and very worthwhile. She is able to explain concepts so that they are very understandable. Also very willing to help students who need it. If you study (and you'll need to), you should have no problem acing the class. Can't wait to take more organic, then biochem.

Dr. Wolff teaches in a very understandable and well straight forward lectures. She is also really lenient when it comes to quizes and labs. Overall her lectures are great but people getting to know her as a person will never happen.
Dr. Wolff is a great teacher who is willing to help you at any time, but her class is just hard. The quizzes all the time help a lot for the test too. Also most of her tests are based on the quizzes.
Dr. Wolff really knows chemistry and is eager to clarif any problems.
She will scoff at you and roll her eyes when you ask her questions. She knows a lot about the subject but her dry sense of humor kills it. Im scared to ask her questions at times because she will make you feel dumb
Smart woman! Knows her stuff.
Not a bad teacher, but I didn't think she was particularly nice. labs were good but lecture was dry. I don't know why she got the hot pepper.
Dr. Wolff is an awesome teacher! She lets you know what will be on the test with helpful review sheets. There are many equations to memorize but as long as you watch her guide everyone through, you will do fine. I found it easier to digest than Chem 101. I recommend her for those taking advanced science classes!
Her grading scale is extremely lenient and you learn everything you need for the tests. The lectures were extremely boring; however, you learn what you need to learn. Super easy to get an A!
Very lenient teacher with her grading scale. She teaches you step by step material. Super easy to get an A.
I left her class more knowledgeable. She was extremely helpful and understanding. Her tests were not easy, but there weren't any surprises either. The material on the tests was always covered in her lectures.
Good lecturer; very poor teacher. Introduces new material by quiz and gets angry when students do poorly. On occasion very demeaning 2 students. This is my 3rd class with Wolff, she couldn't explain synthesis at ALL which is most important in Org chem. Just wrote mechanisms on board exactly from book. If you don't ask Q's she will like you.
She did not promote class participation at all. There is no interaction in this class. She does not even ask questions to verify that students understand. She moved a little slow for me too. She spent the entire time leaturing.
there is nothign amazing about this teacher. if u enjoy learning by having a teacher simply lecture right out of the book and never explain things well to you, she is your kind of teacher! for anything that you do in this class, you are simply thrown into it without any prior information. this goes for all of the labs as well. not at al recommended
She is a horrible teacher. She bases 85% of your final grade on 3 tests and your final. Labs, Quizzes, and such account for pretty much nothing. She is degrading to students and doesn't teach. She automatically assumes you know everything. I would NOT recommend her to anyone, unless you're taking a high chem class (I hear she likes them better.)
she does a really good job at explaining chemistry! i was a little nervous about this class and its difficulty but she is extremely helpful if you show up and do your work! i highly reccomend her!!
very nice teacher!! i took this class without buying the book and did well. not very exciting but if you need it i would take org. chem from her. labs are super easy and dont take long at all.
Dr. Wolff is a very intelligent woman who probably knows more about organic chemistry and beyond than physicians do. The bad thing is, she teaches as if her students have the same degree as she does. I don't think her intelligence allows her to teach at her students level. If chemistry is your life, she'll love you. If not, good luck.
Orgo was hard, but she taught clearly but somewhat slow. She is very kind and extremely helpful. If you are serious about the class she's a great one to take. I would advise the book as her lectures dont cover everything on tests.
I am not sure what others are saying...but this Prof is the BEST I've had. Chem-no matter what level is hard...and you have to put in the work..but she is willing to answer questions and has time for her students...her lectures and notes are directly what is covered on the tests and I never felt she talked down to us SHE ROCKS!!! Highly recommend!
Attendance is mandatory, but don't bother showing up if you'll be 2 minutes late. I would ask her a question and she would look at me like I was an idiot. She had no desire to help me and no interest in explaining ANYTHING. She was horrid! Chemistry is my minor and she nearly made me hate it.
Dr. Wolff is one of the best professors I have ever taken. Everything that is on her tests are in her lectures. She makes plenty of time to help any student that asks for it. If you work hard, study, and attend lecture you will do well in her class.
Dr. Wolff was an ok teacher. Her tests matched her lectures but lectures were so boring. I think it was hard for her to find a medium between explaining stuff way too much or not explaining it enough. The class was definitly tough and you have to put in the effort. Overall she was not a bad teacher, just a little boring.
A bit dull with the lectures. If you have a question she'll stop everything and address it thoroughly to make sure you understand it. She'll answer any question too. She'll let you have fun with the class if you're not too disruptive, she's by no means a classroom Nazi.
I took her for Summer Chem108 and it was easy because the majority of her grading is based on exams. She gave us a study guide before every exam and the layout and information were very simliar to the exam itself. If you make an effort to study, you'll do fine. She was a great teacher; she was clear and gave a lot of examples!
Overall a fair teacher. She gives study guides/things to know for each test. The quizzes and in class work are usually done in groups. Pretty nice and approachable. Makes class manageable.
NOT good at explaining material. Uses terms hasn’t taught yet. Moves extremely quickly. Tries to intimidate with “Dr.” title. Assigns homework on topics that hasn’t covered yet. Rudley corrects students(when taking measurements, doing setups, etc). Condescending demeanor. A lot of “busy work” thats time consuming. VERY critical grader
She frequently gave out in-class group assignments. She tried to answer students’ questions to the best of her abilities. Her teaching style was somewhat slow, but she explained the subject matter very clearly.
Dr. Wolff is obviously a very intelligent woman, but not great at teaching the material. She could come across as condescending, and lectures were DRY! Lots of memorization and regurgitation of material. She did give out some extra credit and we had a very easy final exam to help boost grades, but the class was mostly barely tolerable.
Dr. Wolff is very intelligent but she lacks when it comes to teaching. She teaches as if you should know the material already and are on her level. She gets irritated if you ask questions and her lectures are very boring. I thought she would be a good teacher but she doesnt seem to care about her students and her attitude towards her class is poor.
Not a blow off class. Attendance is mandatory as everything you are graded on is reviewed in class. Otherwise she explains clearly. If you dont like straight lecture classes turn around and find someone else.
I really enjoyed this class and her teaching methods! Discussion questions every week pertained to the chapter we were learning and current events in the world. Kept me interested. Tests are challenging and worth high points, but she tells you what you need to know. Just study, and you will be fine. :) Great teacher!
She's awful. She assumes you remember everything from high school and refuses to go into detail in her lectures. Barely used any of the books for class. The only good thing is her grades are HEAVILY curved. That was the only thing that saved me.
Seriously, one of the best teachers I have ever had. She does not deserve bad reviews. Her class was interesting and informative. Tests were difficult, but not hard by any means. She is super awesome, and I def recommend her!
Dr. Wolff shouldn't have any negative reviews. People don't like her when they don't apply themselves. If you will come to class, ask questions, and study you will pass with an A. Tests are curved and she drops your lowest lab and quiz grades. She was amazing and helpful and I'm taking Organic Chem with her as well! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED :)
Professor Wolff is any awful teacher. Her lectures are dry and monotone. Despite being the head of the chemistry department, she seems to have a lack of enthusiasm for the subject. She is rude and condescending when questions are asked and refuses to help you in class. If you go to here office, she is slightly more polite and helping to help.
Rather easy class and helpful teacher. Always responded to emails rather quickly. Only 5 tests total, no cumulative final. Always get 1 notecard for tests. Study guides and practice quizzes reflect test 90% of the time. Not too much busy work, discussion boards rather easy. About 1 hr/week on discussion boards. 5 hours to study for each test.
Chemistry is not an easy subject, so it took a lot of effort to get my A. Yes, class does get boring, but I think that's my lack of interest in the subject. I don't think I would like chem even if it were taught by the coolest person in the world. Dr. Wolff, however, was happy to help and answer questions, and had clear expectations.
Oh my god, don't take her class. She is the most boring lecturer ever. I have insomnia, but she would put me to sleep. On top of that, she is the most condescending professor at JJC. If you ask a question, she will look at you like you're an idiot. And if you make a mistake on a lab and she notices she will roll her eyes at you for messing up.
Dr. Wolff means well, but can't teach. Her lectures are super boring and endless, she gives 3 hour long tests that are absolutely brutal with the most impossible examples. Never reviews prior material in class, if she does its once and barely. Studied very hard, still did terrible in the class.
This class wasn't as bad as I expected at all. You have short discussion boards each week, a test every 2-3 weeks, and occasional extra credit. The tests do get more and more difficult throughout the semester, but she gives you a study guide & you may use a notecard on the test. Wolff emailed back right away when I needed something. She was great!
Dr. Wolff is tough professor. This course is hard in itself, and her teaching skills and attitude do not make it easier. I would not recommend her.
Dr. Wolff is a GREAT. Orgo Chem l is hard and I feared it BUT she makes it understandable. She shows how to take notes! 3 exams 72% of course grade. As a BSE, I earned a B BUT proud I can actually explain it to others. Will take Orgo II with her. Highly recommend for pre-meds. Small class of 24 pays off vs 300 in lecture at universities.
I took her online chem 104 class. She has everything online for you so you know when assignments are due. You can use a notecard on tests. Do the practice quizzes online(just like tests)! Those are similar to the test question. No final. Just 5 exams. She gives easy E.C. Would recommend. I used the book somewhat but I got it cheap.
Never have I taken a class with a more condesending professor and I am a student from a 4-year university who has dealt with a lot of terrible lecturers. The thing with Wolff though, is that this is her job. Unlike the professors I take classes with who are there for mainly personal research, her main job is to teach and maybe enjoy it. Steer clear
Can be condescending - don't let that intimidate you. Study the practice tests and quizzes! As long as you FULLY understand the practice exams, you will be fine on the actual exam. Make sure you take notes from the board as these will help you, too. I actually ended up liking the course in the end, so don't think organic is too hard to understand!
I have this class twice a week and every other class we spend the whole period doing a lab that is barely relevant and doesn't help you better understand what you need to know for tests/quizzes. She isn't thorough in explaining what she is teaching and makes mistakes on the board half the time. Her notes are also awful and don't help you understand
The exams are tough even though you can use a notecard. You aren't allowed to see what you missed on the exams. There are a lot of discussion boards. She puts up a lot of supplemental material if you need it.
Take this course anywhere else and with any other professor; run, don't walk!!!! While it is obvious Marie knows her chem stuff, unfortunately teaching is not one of her skills. She is has a tendency to go on & on in lectures w minute fillers vs actually teaching the course @hand &providing her students w ways to simplify & understand orgochem...
Dr. Wolff was a very good professor. Her grading curve is very generous, and her lectures are mostly PowerPoint with some white board work, which is what I really like. There's usually a quiz every week, and we were allowed to work in groups in it. She was very understanding to test accommodations if you have a disability as well. Solid choice
Typical online course, 5-6 discussion boards are worth 10 points. Then just 5 exams and you can use a notecard. No final. If you read the chapters, take the practice quizzes (similar to exams) and use study guides, you will easily pass. She's an generous grader and responsive. I was late on a couple discussions and still got full credit.
Great professor! Do your work, and don't bother getting the book, the quiz's and notes is all you need to pass.
Would take prof wolff again - offers lots of xtra credit opportunities, allows 3x5 notecard with notes to use during exams & gives study guide for each exam. Everything on the study guide is what is on the test, book isn't needed, save your $, she provides great learning material (games, videos, articles, etc) to solidify course work.
The tests are worth most of your grade, however she provides you with practice exams before each test, and a review session going over the answers of the practice exam. Labs are very easy, if you pay attention and keep up with the material it isn't a hard class. The grade scale is curved as well. 87% an A!
I didn't like that a lot of the supplemental material did not work. A lot of broken links. 5 exams that you can use a note card on. Write extremely small if you want to pass. I didn't learn a lot from this class but some of the discussions were interesting.
I took her 6 week summer class and her due dates were all messed up and something was due every day or two instead of having 5 assignments due on one day like most professors. She does not let you make up anything, which is just simply lazy teaching. I was out of state 3 hours behind IL and tried to turn in my HW and i got a 0
I was worried about taking an online chemistry class, but Wolff made it easy to understand the material. She offers a lot of additional material you can use to study for exams(very helpful). She also offers a lot of extra credit throughout the semester. She does assign a lot of homework, but I would definitely recommended her and take her again.
She focuses too much on group work and treats her students like they're juvenile delinquents. She also doesn't do a lot of real "lecturing", so get ready to do a lot of textbook reading. One of the only redeemable things about her class is that her grading scale is heavily curved.
Ms. Wolff is not understanding if you are a student trying to work and attend school. She is not flexible with assignments and it is almost impossible to ask for her help after class time. She doesn't seem interested in the success of her students. Tests and labs add up to a lot of work for this class so be prepared to study!
Unprofessional. I'm a full time student and worker. I took her online class because I don't have the time to go to campus. But she makes it mandatory to go to the testing center instead of letting students test at home. Her online modules are so unorganized, it's easy to miss assignments. Plus she dropped me from her class without any notification.
Dr. Wolff is the most intelligent person at JJC. Her lectures are dry when she is reading from the powerpoint, as there is so much to cover. However, her demonstrations are amazing, clear, and force the material into your mind. IF YOU ARE STRUGGLING YOU MUST ASK FOR HELP SHE IS A Ph.D. FROM U OF IOWA NOT A HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER. See her in office hrs
Class is incredibly difficult. A lot of material to cover on a day, tests are really long and cover EVERYTHING on the notes. Material builds on each other so memorize and understand everything!! She has a strong character but if you're struggling go to her Office hours!she will help you if you ask! Class really prepared me for orgo 2 at 4yr univer
She was a really good teacher. The powerpoints she gave us was exactly what was on the tests. Discussion questions were very straight foreword. She was a great teacher.
Professor Wolff is super sweet! I took chem online and I thought it was going to be difficult, but it was super easy! The only downfall is she has weird deadlines for things so instead of having a couple assignments to do within the week, you have to do them day by day. Don't bother buying the book you dont even use it. Fairly easy class, take her!
The class was not difficult. Read the chapter, study lecture slides, do practice quizzes. Be sure to do discussion boards on time. She is responsive via email and seemed very kind and reasonable. I would recommend her classes online. Chem 104 is environmental chemistry so I would say easier than 101. I would take this Professor again for sure.
Professor Wolff was a phenomenal professor. I was worried about an online chemistry course but she made this class very easy to understand. I would recommend her over and over again! Great course to take.
(Note, this course was taken through COVID) I found her to be a very solid professor who did everything a professor should, but nothing above or beyond. This is a shame, but while I do believe she'd be able to do better in an offline format, I can't rate her based on belief. She was simply alright as a professor.
I believe this is the easiest class I have taken at JJC. I took it online. Only had one assignment each week which is a discussion board posting. The discussion board prompts are actually interesting and have no minimum word requirement. Quizzes and test questions are not very original. If you are good with technology this class will be a breeze.
I had Dr Wolff for lab and she honestly does such a good job teaching the material, but her lab procedures are so strict and I felt constantly belittled for every little thing I did wrong.
OrgoChem is a difficult class. Pay attention, take good notes, MAKE A REACTION NOTEBOOK!, go to OFFICE HOURS! and you will do okay. She is very smart and is willing to help if you ask. The class tests heavy and they are long. Do the practice review and know the notes! Come prepared to class watching the notes prior to coming to class.
Orgo is a tough course to understand so HAVE A GOOD STUDY SYSTEM AND FORM STUDY GROUPS. After the 2nd exam, you'll see how much more time you need to dedicate to study. I recommend taking advantage of Dr. Wolff's office hours. She is is extremely intelligent, caring, wise and just wants you to do your best in and outside the class.
She did not give a ton of homework which is good but its not good when the homework has nothing to do with what is on the test. Even using the study guides only helped for a few questions. There was not a lot to help prepare for the tests which is obviously the biggest part of the grade.
If you r like me an me and clueless in anything bio/chem &are just taking this as a gen ed, take her. I was scared to take an online chem but youll be fine. Advice: TAKE EVERY SINGLE PRACTICE EXAM! i l did not study, just took practice quizzes 10 times each and got B's on exams. 1 discussion board per week and tests.those are the only grades.
I took this class fully online so I only emailed her about a few things and she got back pretty quick and was sweet. Decently easy class. Just watch the weekly videos, do the discussion posts, and study using the quizzes, crosswords, and study guide she gives you and you will pass. The content is easy and interesting. I really liked this class.
she's willing to work with you if you need help. I would take her class again and again. I'm actually sad that I can't take her again, but she's absolutely outstanding. I would recommend her class to anyone. All you have to do is participate in the discussion boards, watch the videos, and study hard for the class because it is test-heavy.
I was so nervous about online chem but honestly, it was pretty easy. Get ready to study and make sure to go over the material, but the class wasn't bad. She allows you a note card for the exam and many questions on the test come from the practice quizzes. I aced every test I took. Just make sure to study and this will be a great class.
