THIS TEACHER IS ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS EVER. SHE HELPED ME OVERCOME MY FEAR OF PUBLIC SPEEKING, SO DONT LISTEN TO ALL THESE OTHER COMMENTS BECAUSE I BET THEY ALL CAME FROM LAZY STUDENTS THAT THINK EVERY CLASS SHOULD BE EASY. COME ON ITS COLLEGE!!! WE HAVE TO WORK HARD TO EARN A GOOD GRADE. SO I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER.

AS LONG AS YOU DO THE WORK THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE, THIS CLASS WAS A LOT OF FUN, AND RELATIVELY EASY. SHE HANDED EVERY ASSIGNMENT OUT IN THE BEGINNING SO THAT WE COULD STAY ON TOP OF OUR OWN WORK. AND SHE'S WILLING TO HELP YOU IN ANY WAY SHE CAN. I WAS DREADING TAKING SPEECH, AND THIS TURNED OUT TO BE ONE OF MY FAVORITE CLASSES. AWESOME.

There are many controversies going on about this teacher So I'll tell you how she REALLY is. I think she is one of the best teachers that I've ever taken in college. I really don't understand what those other guys are talking about(the same guys that are keep posting bad comments). Her class is not that hard and you WILL become a better speaker!

I do not understand why students say she is not a good professor.If you want to learn take her. She is a very nice human being. If feel shy talking in public, she will encourage you. I recommend her. You won't regret it.

Took her in the summer and loved it. She does this whole speech the first day on the fact that she's tough but really she seems to just want to weed out those that won't do the work. Our whole class seemed to have a lot of fun. She is strict but encouraging and fun.

Easy class.Easy "A."I didn't learn anything new.Her tests are your speeches.So do your speeches good.Learn how to outline, she has one outline assignment.Some speeches will have mandatory visual aides(posters,graphs,powerpoint,etc.).Had a lot of fun.

One of the best and most gracious teachers I have ever had. She is strict and sticks to her guns but she is very positive and respectful with her comments, and overall very reasonable. I was terrified of this class but she gives her students confidence. She is extremely prepared with her lectures and handouts. Everything is explained in detail.

This teacher is very good to make you feel comfortable when you are going to deliver you speech. This is very helpful and clear in her teaching.

i took her on saturdays and well she seems intimidating at first but really isnt! there are speeches u have to do and for those that have a hard time speaking itll be a hard class. attend every class and do every specch...you'll pass!

She is a really great teacher.. If you have potentail she will go out of your way to see you succeed.At first she sets off to be a lil mean but when you know her and have class you will grow to be inspired.

She may seem intimidating at first, but she's actually really sweet. You have to do four speeches, and she's a pretty fair grader. Except she's strict on time limits so watch out. She also gives you a few extra credit options, so take whatever you can get. So easy! I got an A

Make sure u write down all her notes+read book.She gives 2 finals & 4-5 speeches.One of the most sweetest, honest, helpful and amazing prof.GCC can have. She will guid you threw all the steps you need in order to come out of your comfort zone.Just listen to what she says and follow instructions I PROMISE YOU, you'll pass the class with an A

The B in Beeler definitely stands for Brilliant. I took her speech 101 class last semester.It was fun,EASY, and it didnt take up the whole time. Trust me, i am a lazy person and if i can get an A, you can too. Honestly, the only people who she gives bad grades to people who just dont come to class and have off topic speeches. She's the best by far

If you want a real college work take her class. I do not understand how many people belive that she has class favorites. I feel she treats everyone equally and I hispanic. Her class is not easy, she will tell you herself, but she will teach you to express your thoughts. It can be life changing event class for many don't miss out. P.s she is hot

She is a wonderful teacher! The best I have ever had! She does not play favorites as others have said. She gives everyone the same amount of courtesey. She seems intimidating at first but is very nice and willing to help. Do the reading and study your notes if you do that and give decent speeches youll definately get an A. Highly recommend her!

She is a good teacher, teaches what you need to know in how to make a speech but unfortunately the way she grades you makes it almost impossible to get an A on a speech. She wants alot of specifics in your speech AND you have to be in her very specific time limit and she docks off points for anything!

VERY big on structure so don't expect to walk up there & just wing it. She wants a sentence-by-sentence structure that she clearly lays out before the speeches but if you leave anything out/out of place, she'll tell you & mark you off. Makes students give you "feedback" after each speech, its like a firing squad. More nervewracking than the speech!

Follow her rules, be prepared to speak, and sign up for your speeches in the top half of the class and you'll do fine

Beeler's a great speech professor. You get to find confidence in your own ability to speak publicly in this class. She really cares about her students and is very encouraging. I found that the class atmosphere is very tight-knit and comfortable to speak to, and the professor is responsible for creating it. Take her and stick it through!

So far she has been very helpful with building the confidence in everyone in the class. She gives you advice on how to improve yourself when you go up again. Btw if your a male that love northern European blonds, she's an eye candy and keeps you up for that early class

She is great, very nice. Just show up prepare for your speech and present them and you'll survive.

She really is a tough grader but if you follow her feedback, you should be able to improve and get a better grade next time. She passes out the grading sheets with the syllabus, so you know how to prepare for your speeches. She helps you when you ask for help and overall, she's a great professor. Class participation is a must!

Prof Beeler's best quality is her kindness and chill personality. She makes the classroom seem non-threatening which is PRICELESS in a speech class. Her grading criteria for speeches is very clear and as long as you have all parts included in your speeches you'll do just fine. A few quick pop quizzes mean you have to take notes and read the book.

Awesome professor. Attend everyday, do all extra credit offered, participate. She is extremely nice and tries to help as much as she can. Not hard but you are going to put in some work for it.

She's a great professor. I was nervous prior to giving speeches (no prior experience), but she was able to calm me down and get me through my speeches. As the semester went on, I became more comfortable. Feel like I learned a lot. She's great.

She gives good feedback on speeches. Gives it right after your give the speech and in written form on the evaluation sheet. She offers extra credit opportunities, which really helped me with my final grade.

Loved the extra credit! The book is easy to read. Stay up on the reading and midterm and final will be fine. The lectures go hand-in-hand with the reading. Speeches are do-able.

At the beginning of the semester, she hands out the syllabus, but it also has all the grading criteria in it for the speeches you will give. Nice to know what she'll be looking for and what elements will make up your grade. Also, she is always available if you need help with any of your speeches. All you have to do is ask.

Marieke is one of the best professors in the teaching circuit at the school. She is very knowledgable about her teaching subject. Generally speaking, she makes the material very easy and harmless to absorb as long as you do the work and practice. I would absolutely recommend her and I'd enroll in her class any and every time she the professor.

Prof. Beeler is extremely patient with students who are struggling and explains the lessons in ways that are easy to grasp. She inspires us to break out of our comfort zone. I feel like this class has helped me become a lot more confident and I've heard the same from other students. Wish I could take another class from her.

As long as the content of your speeches match what is required, you shouldnt have a problem getting a high grade in this class. Do the homework, put some effort in your speeches, and an easy A awaits.

Took the class this summer. Loved it! She lets you work on your speeches in class and helps you with the prep to make sure you get an A on your assignments. Sweet. Book isn't difficult, lectures help cover the book. She tells you when you can expect a pop quiz. Ton of extra credit opportunity - got an A.

Its a shame that this site does not allow for more than three tags to describe Professor Marieke Beeler. Although the tags inspirational, caring & extra credit are all more than true, so are respected, clear grading criteria, hilarious & amazing lectures. I wish more teachers were like Mrs. Beeler. Im sad the term is ending this Friday.

She is an amazing instructor and an extremely kind person. She is generous with every aspect of your grade. If you pay attention in class, you will ace your quizzes and exams, and if you keep the rubric in mind, you'll do great on your speeches. I believe the only reason she doesn't have a perfect 5 is due to unmotivated and entitled children.

No idea where the concerns come from posted by others. She's awesome! Yes, there are pop quizzes, but they are exactly about the lectures and easy to ace. Show up, participate and with all the extra credit opportunities, easy to get an A in the class.

I have really bad anxiety and reached out to the professor with my concerns. She made time outside of class to sit with me and discuss on what I could do. I loved the personal attention. Ask for help and she helps. Would so take her again if I she taught other classes!

She's an extraordinary professor who actually cares about her students' success. She's very detailed, and offers a ton of feedback in the speech process. The course itself is quite fun unlike many other courses out there. If you need to take a public speaking class at SMC, she's the person for you.

She assigned throughout the semester with a lot of notice given ahead of time, like what it takes to deliver a good speech, elements of different types of speeches, and the specific criteria she wanted us to include in each speech. I barely used the book and used more time to prepare and practice my speeches. She offered some extra credit.

Professor Beeler was a joy for the entire duration of the course. She really listened, provided great feedback and pushed me to be the best I can be. She has a deep knowledge of the subject and procures a really good classroom community. Everyone supports each other and it was a really enjoyable experience.

Just finished a winter semester with Mrs. Beeler. This was my first college course ever and she made the start to college education enjoyable and memorable. Amazing professor!

i took her class at Santa Monica college. shes one of the best professor i have had. she gives you all the tools to work with, u just need to follow them. i took her comst 11 class in the winter, and she made it very enjoyable and doable even though it was a very fast paced class. shes big on participation, so show up to class and be engaged.

I took Mrs. Beeler's Speech 101 class this Winter 2020 and she is one of the best proffessors I have had at GCC so far. She is very straight forward, gives great feedback and cares about her students. She has certainly helped me become a better speaker and was very supportive throughout the process. She has definetly left a great impact in my life

The assignments are only 3 speeches and 3 outlines. THAT'S IT FOR ONE SEMESTER. She'll give you quizzes after a lecture but they are extra credits. Follow the grading rubric and it's an easy A!

Professor Beeler, is a fasinating professor. I can seriously say I walked out with my head high and learned a lot in this summer speech 101 class. I am proud to say I am a great speaker and I no longer obtain that anxiety when giving a speech. Professor Beeler is your go to for speech 101 class!

I took Professor Beeler's online / remote Speech 101 class and I honestly have not had any other professor who was as organized as Professor Beeler. The Canvas course was clear, easy to follow and everything is explained to a T. All her quizzes are extra credit opportunities, which I loved. No pressure, yet a great way to practice for the final.

Took Professor Beeler's class remotely. Loved how she scheduled work. Lecture at the beginning of the week and then plenty of time the rest of the week to get work done. Lectures were NOT mandatory. Awesome! Recording of the lecture was always available afterwards, so I could watch whenever convenient. Made sense.

Really Awesome Class all of the material was understandable , lectures were in great quality and her pace was excellent when it came to work and other asynchronous time.

Took Speech 101 online. The course was well-organized, I loved the lectures! They were a great addition to the book. Summer semesters are short, but the workload was do-able. She gives great feedback that you can build on moving forward for next assignments.

I was nervous taking an online Speech 101 class, but I am so happy I took it with Professor Beeler. The course is well laid-out, easy to navigate and the chapters of the book are accompanied with insightful lectures. Between those two she covers everything and she provides you with the tools to really learn the art of public speaking.

Good teacher for speech class. I was nervous because I hate public speaking but she made us feel comfortable. We did have to record our speeches and post them as a discussion. We had to include 3 audience members but it was fine. Overall, it was a great class. Highly recommend.!
